WAM vessel & Virulents

Here is some stuff I have come across while surfing the internet..

Here is an interesting news picture - This is the picture of Proteus, a prototype wave adaptive modular vessel, as it cuts through the waters of the Hudson River, Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, in New York. This new, spider-like watercraft features ultralight, flexible catamarans and a modular design that allows for a variety of applications. The WAM-V has ocean-crossing capabilities with a range of up to 5,000 miles; very low fuel consumption; low draft; and minimal wake. With room for 12 passengers and an optional dive platform available, this 12-ton, 100-foot vessel may be the coolest, sportiest dive boat on the planet. You can read more about it at http://www.wam-v.com/

Now moving on to the other item that I wanted to share with you in this post - While surfing the Internet I came across a horror comic called Virulents released by Virgin comics.

The story of Virulents is actually conceived from Indian folklore - the story of the blood demon Raktaveej that, as legend goes, spawned countless clones from every drop of his blood that he shed in battle, thus making it almost impossible to defeat him. Terrorized by this the Devatas (Demigods ?) summon the Goddess Uma who transformed herself into the fearsome Kali and kills the demon.

Here's a plot synopsis from the official Virgin Comics site:

"In the mountaneous deserts of Afghanistan, a small platoon of American soldiers in search of their missing comrades comes across Indian commandos looking for a group of terrorists suspected of hiding a most heinous weapon in the craggy breast of the Hindukush. The initial confrontation between the two outfits leads to bitterness, brutish patriotism, name-calling for boys will be boys.

But night falls. A night of revelation as the Americans discover the fate of their lost brothers, and the Indians discover the fate of their terrorists. But the terror is not in the form of flesh and blood, or bullets or gunpowder. Terror has a new name.

Now the Americans and Indians, soldiers, warriors, and brothers in arms… must unite.

Who will survive this night of terror, of blood, screams and violence ? Who will survive a fate worse than death

This book is being made into a Hollywood horror flick now. Here is the youtube link to the trailer

This story of Virulents has appealed to me at so many levels. It perfectly reflects the current state of affairs in our world. We have religious terrorism rearing its ugly head in many parts of the world. It like the blood demon Raktaveej in this story, is producing religious fanatics, killers and suicide bombers that kill, maim and terrorize innocent people in the name of religion. This demon of terrorism needs to be exterminated and can be exterminated, but only if all the countries and governments that still think rationally, combine forces and wage the battle against terrorism. In the not too distant future, India joining forces with the USA and other Western countries, against terrorists and terrorism is inevitable for the survival of these countries and their people.

P.S: I am going to see this movie on the day 1 of it being released.
