Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 31 Jul 2010 | 7:40 am Shazahn Padamsee is intimidated by Ajay Devgn
In Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji, Shazahn Padamsee plays the nice sweet Catholic girl who works in Ajay Devgn's company. Soon the 40-year old character begins to get attracted to the 20-year old girl.
Initially, Shazahn whose last co-star was Ranbir Kapoor was intimidated by the thought of working with an actor so much her senior. But Madhur convinced her about the relevance of the age-group in the script.
Says Shahzahn, "Initially I was nervous. But I knew I was going to be taken care of. Madhur Bhandarkar is one of the best directors ever. Look at the kind of magic he works with his heroines. When I saw Chandni Bar I was blown. It's the best Hindi film I've seen."
The other impediment in Shazahn'a way was that her role requires a lot of dancing. Luckily, Shazahn is equipped to handle that. "After Rocket Singh, I went down South to do two films one in Tamil, the other in Telugu. Both required a lot of Bollywood-styled dancing. So I can manage the movements well now."
Again managing them with an actor who is twice her age could be problematic. Shazahn is willing to put in long ours to get her steps with Devgn right.
It's interesting how Shazahn bagged a role that had several short-listed finalists including the producer Kumar Mangat's daughter Amita.
Madhur Bhandarkar was on the look-out for a very young relatively-unrecognized girl to play out the older-man-young-girl romance. He spotted Shazahn at the premiere of Raajneeti. And immediately knew she was the one he was looking for. Not knowing about the stress between Raajneeti director and Devgn, Bhandarkar quickly looked around at the premiere for Devgn to seek his approval for the actress.
Says a source, "Bhandarkar was shocked to know that Devgn was not coming for the Raajneeti premiere. He had to find another opportunity to introduce Shazahn to Devgn."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 31 Jul 2010 | 7:32 am Skin treatments not too good for skin, feels Diane Kruger

A straight question first. Is there anyone out there who can revoke the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor from driving? Well, if you are Shah Rukh Khan, you can! Well, that's what the King Khan tweeted with this picture.
No prizes for guessing that this is a shot from the heavy duty action scene being shot in London for Ra.One. And from what we make of it, Kareena, is part of this scene in the film. Well, whatever be the case, SRK jokingly said, 'Not allowing Kareena to drive anymore...license revoke national & international'.

Anurag Kashyap recent film as a producer, Udaan, got lot of critical acclaim. Now, Kashyap is all set with his next directorial venture titled That Girl In Yellow Boots, the film which stars Kalki Koelchin and is co-produced by National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC).
That Girl In Yellow Boots which in essence is a thriller tracing Ruth's (Kalki Koechlin) search for her father - a man she hardly knew but cannot forget. Desperation drives her to work without a permit, at a massage parlour. Torn between several schisms, Mumbai becomes the alien but yet strangely familiar backdrop for Ruth's quest. She struggles to find her independence and space even as she is sucked deeper into the labyrinthine politics of the city's underbelly. A city that feeds on her misery, a love that eludes her and above all, a devastating truth that she must encounter. And everyone wants a piece of her. But what's interesting is the fact that it has been selected for the esteemed 67th Venice Film Festival.
The film will be screened under Out-of-Competition section at this year's Venice Film Festival. Under this section, important works by directors already established in previous editions of the Festival are showcased. The festival will take place from 1st to 11th September 2010 at Venice Lido.
An ecstatic Anurag Kashyap said, "I am on top of the world. Thank you NFDC to pull the project out of post production limbo and completing it. I would also like to thank Ronnie Screwvala, Sanjay Singh and Sikhya Entertainment for lending me the money and unconditional support".
If that wasn't enough That Girl in Yellow Boots will also be screened at the forthcoming Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), wilt the film will have its North American Premiere under Special Presentations.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 31 Jul 2010 | 6:43 am Jennifer Aniston says no to artificial insemination

Dibakar Banerjee left on Tuesday for the Melbourne International Film Festival where Love Sex Aur Dhokha is being screened in a special section called 'Not Quite Hollywood', he regrets not having his producer Ekta Kapoor along. Immersed in the release of her new film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Ekta has regrettably given the a honour a miss.
But Dibakar has a very special gift for his producer. A new love story written specially for Ekta's Balaji Films, presented to her as a belated birthday present (Ekta turned a year older on June 7).
Irresistible is how Dibakar Banerjee describes his collaboration with Ekta Kapoor. After the luminously lauded LSD, the unlikely twosome Dibakar and Ekta are all set to come together again for what promises to be the most intense love story of 2011.
At home with his new adoptive daughter Ira, Dibakar , now in domesticated and mellow frame of mind has been quietly penning the love story for his demanding producer.
Says Dibakar, "See, Ekta is dream producer. When we came together for LSD, we never thought we'd be able to work so well together. She gave me a free rein. I was in a totally happy frame of mind making LSD. Even if its impact was not what it is, I'd have still gone back to Ekta to make a film."
Ekta had a pre-condition for Dibakar. "She wanted me to return to her only when I've a trueblue love story to make."
The love story will go on the floors in the second-half of 2011. For now Dibakar watches LSD acquire a life of its own. He leaves for Melbourne where LSD is being screened along with Aamir Khan's Peepli Live and Abhishek Choubey's Ishqiya in the 'Not Quite Bollywood' section.
Says the enthused director, "It is quite a triumph for Indian cinema to have a different kind of films being recognized. But we have a long struggle ahead."
Dibakar and LSD's associate producer Priya Aven would also be participating in a discussion on digital cinema.
And if you think Dibakar's trip to Melbourne is only about he business of cinema, he's also taking his wife and daughter Ira to Melbourne. "If I don't find ways of spending time with Ira, I'd soon be left with no time for her," grumbles dad Dibakar.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 31 Jul 2010 | 3:47 am Chelsea Clinton set for 'wedding of the century' - Daily News & Analysis
Source: Entertainment - Google News | 31 Jul 2010 | 3:45 am Subhash K. Jha speaks about Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai
It's the way he looks at the camera. Almost as if it doesn't exist. Ajay Devgn as Sultan Mirza is NOT Haji Mastan, please note. He's just this Robin Hood in the 1970s who happened to be a smuggler and who at some point in the taut plot, locks horns with a junior recruit who, please note, is NOT Dawood Ibrahim.
So who, in the name of immoral crime and haphazard policing, are these two men? So stylishly masculine, so sweaty in their realism and so menacing in their demeanour and complete denial of the existent morality they remind you of the anti-social heroes from Sam Peckinpah's Westerns?
Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai takes us back to the beginnings of gangsterism in Mumbai. Milan Luthria excels in creating smouldering combustive stress between two mean menacing menâ¦Remember Devgn(who back then was Devgan, just as Mumbai was Bombay when the film under review unfolds) and Saif Ali Khan in Luthria's Kachche Dhaage and on a more satirical note, John Abraham and Nana Patekar in Taxi No 9211.
In Once Upon A Time â¦.the conflict between Devgn (who is NOT Haji Mastan) and Emraan Hashmi (who is NOT Dawood) is placed in a far more complex and challenging scenario. The screenplay (Rajat Arora) takes into view the entire gamut of grime in the canvas of crime that cannot be hidden by the surface glamour and glitter.
The vintage cars, the costumes and that attitude of rebellious abandon comes through in the inner and outer styling of the characters. The people in Luthria's panoramic view of Mumbai in the late 1960s and 70s are steeped in a cinematic realism. Neither a part of that period nor a completely true representation of an era gone-bye-bye the characters hover in a no-man's-land populated by fascinating details of past recreated with a tongue-in-cheek broadness of purpose.
There are bouts of suppressed satire in the way the whole era of the genesis of the underworld is represented. For example Emraan Hashmi (who is NOT Dawood) befriends and sleeps with a woman who looks a lot like a Bollywood actress whom Raj Kapoor had introduced in a film and Dawood had befriended and allegedly impregnated.
Often the characters are an amalgamation of furious folklore and long-forgotten newspaper headlines of the 1970s. Kangna Ranaut plays an actress from the 1970s who gets the hots for the Robin Hood-styled smuggler-hero. Later she is discovered to have a congenital heart disease (a la Madhubala who came two decades before the events of this film are supposed to unfold). But look at the irony! It's her smuggler-hero lover who dies of a wounded heart.
Maybe we shouldn't give away the plot. Because the plot never gives itself away. It never betrays a phoney intent of purpose. The narrative unfolds through the first-person narration of a troubled wounded cop, played with remarkably restrained bravado by Randeep Hooda. Indeed this is the most accomplished performance in the film. He's partly a gallant law enforcer and partly a victim of a system that breeds inequality corruption and finally, self-destruction.
Hooda is wry cynical bitter anguished and yet able to see the humour of a situation that one can ride only by sublimating its gravity. As for Ajay Devgn, he continues to evolve with every performance. As a gangster from the 1970s (who is NOT Haji) Devgan brings on the table a clenched self-mocking immorality. He stands outside the character even while internalizing the performance.
Director Milan Luthria imparts a keen eye for details to the storytelling. Some bits in the second-half get shaky, such as the predicable club songs and the repeated use of overlapping editing patterns to convey the rising tension between the mentor and the protégé turned tormenter. But the director's command over the language of outlawry is unquestionable.
Emraan Hashmi as Devgn's uncontrollable protégée gets the look and body language right. His courtship of Prachi Desai to the accompaniment of romantic titbits from the 1970s (e.g. Raj Kapoor's Bobby) is engaging.
Understandably the two ladies are reduced to pursing their lips and wringing their hands as the story progresses. The film's best, most charming and heart-warming moments come in the early stages of the drama between Devgn and Ranaut. Their growing fondness for one another is recorded in scenes and words written by a poet who can see the humour behind mutual attractions.
The real hero of this film is the writing. Rajat Arora's dialogues flow from the storytelling in a smooth flow of poetry and street wisdom. Aseem Mishra's sharply -evocative cinematography gives to this rugged-and-razor sharp look at Mumbai's mythic mating with crime, an urgency that simply can't be ignored.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 31 Jul 2010 | 3:33 am Now, Payal Rohtagi accuses Rahul Mahajan of beating her - Hindustan Times

An SMS can truly reveal an individual's personality. Well, for most of the times. This is how I felt when I first started interacting with Prachi Desai. I missed it during her initial brush with Bollywood with Rock On and Life Partner but this was not going to be the case with Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai. We exchanged a few texts and the content that followed revealed a couple of characteristic traits. Firstly, the language ensured that she would be a sweet and simple person to talk to. Secondly, a free use of words meant that it is also going to be a long and lively conversation.
Never mind the to-and-fro that happened, the wait was truly worth it as Prachi ended up being someone you would love to hang out with and have an engaging conversation over a coffee. Presenting Part I of the conversation that transpired.
You played a young, sweet and simple married girl in Rock On and followed it up with Life Partner where you were again a young married girl next door. Now you are a middle class girl next door in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. Don't you get
worried with the thoughts of getting typecast in such roles?
Initially it was more of a problem when it came to getting typecast especially since I was just getting out of television medium. In fact I consciously took on roles which were not very mature. I am 21 right now and was just 19 when I did Rock On. I didn't want to do any mature roles at this age. If I do that now, I would have done that; there wouldn't have been anything left to do tomorrow when I grow up.
But don't you want to experiment?
Of course all actors want to experiment so that audience do not get bored. However, each and every actor has to look at a specific genre, especially in the early years. This is what I did for my first couple of films but yes, now is the time to bring about that change. Through OUATIM, I can hopefully see a change in image because audience will get to know that I can be a lot different.
The obvious response that I am expecting from you is that the film turned out to be a fulfilling experience. So should I ask - 'How was the experience of working in OUATIM?'
(Laughs) Well, how much fulfilling it actually was is something that would be known once the film releases. Let these next few days pass and we will know what the film and my role is all about. However, personally as an actor, this film has been extremely satisfying. Still, one can't be sure of audience reception because in Bollywood, due to the kind of career and job option that you have, the journey ahead is always so much uncertain. It is something today and altogether different tomorrow. You may have your own reasoning and still changes could be so drastic. You can just plan but it could all be of no use. Aaj kuch hai aur kal kuch aur.
Even with so much all around uncertainty, you must have been sure about one thing at the least and i.e. a passionate sequence with Serial Kisser Emraan Hashmi, isn't it? Since you are known to be averse to display of skin and moments of lip lock, did you actually get it written in your contract that there won't be any kissing scenes
involved?
You are trying to make it out as a big scandal where there wasn't any actually (smiles). In fact I always laughed this out because right from the very beginning, Milan (Luthria) was very clear about my role and the film. He knew that with this film, he would be changing the typical way of making gangster films. I too was extremely sure of what I had to do in the film and carried no doubts about it. So yes, to answer your question, I didn't have to explicitly ask him or put down that whether I had to do any kissing scenes or not. I wasn't worried because I knew that wouldn't be the case.
Did you know about the Bobby sequence though where you had to get into Dimple Kapadia's outfit?
I knew about the Bobby sequence but I didn't have to ask anyone about the explicit details. I didn't have to worry about the length of the dress or how I would look on screen because I knew that Milan would bring the best out of me. I knew that he won't misuse the sequence for the sake of it. Otherwise I would have been caught in an earlier situation that I had faced for one of my films where all of a sudden, I was told right on the sets that the next day I had to wear a particular outfit.
What was this incident? And how did Prachi really cope with the situation? Also, is Prachi having that someone special in her life who makes her heart go boom? To know all of this and more, visit this space for Part II of the conversation.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 30 Jul 2010 | 4:57 am "My reference point for background score was Bachchan starrer Don" - Milan
The Big B keeps making unexpected guest appearances in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. While Ajay Devgn's character has been admittedly designed around the Big B's persona, a lot of the film mood and atmospheric effects are designed around Chandra Barot's 1978 espionage thriller Don.
And that wasn't easy to achieve. Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai took its sweet time to get to the censors because the director was busy trying to get the texture and quality of background music from Don.
Says Milan Luthria, "It wasn't easy at all. I had a new composer Sandeep Shirodkar to do the background score. I wanted the entire smoky atmosphere, the mood of intrigue suspense tension and romance of the 1970s to come out of the music. My reference point was the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don."
The effort to get the right music took much longer than expected. And the film went for censoring later than Milan had imagined.
"But the effort was worth it," says the director proudly.
An even prouder moment was when Milan's mentor Mahesh Bhatt saw the film on Wednesday evening. Says Milan, "Mahesh is my boss. When I saw him whistling and cheering my film I felt I had done my duty."
With Haji Mastan's adopted son and three biological daughters honing in to make prevent the release of Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai , producer Ekta Kapoor and director Milan Luthria have quickly followed the court directive and inserted a disclaimer to the belief that the film is a fictionalized bio-pic of Haji Mastan's life.
The disclaimer won't be the ordinary kind that says all the characters are fictional and any resemblance to any person living or dead is coincidental.
Explains director Milan Luthria, "Our disclaimer which comes at the start of the film would actually say that it has nothing to do with Haji Mastan. We also have to put out a press statement saying none of us from the film has ever made any statement claiming our film had anything to do with Haji Mastan."
But the question is, would the disclaimer pacify Haji Mastan's family, especially when so many of the incidents in the plot would directly remind them of their family matters?Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 30 Jul 2010 | 3:08 am
