Rahman to sacrifice Bollywood for international career?
A R Rahman's international career which has taken off in a biggish way after Slumdog Millionaire, keeps encountering snags, thanks to long-pending assignments back home.
According to sources, Rahman has to keep interrupting his international plans to be home for various pending assignments. The harried composer is now seriously thinking of putting all home-made assignments on hold to concentrate on building his career abroad, or else he feels he would lose the international advantage he obtained after Slumdog Millionaire.
Says a friend of Rahman, "The Indian assignments after Slumdog Millioniare have been very time-consuming, especially Raavan where Rahman not only had to do two versions of the music in Hindi and Tamil, but director Mani Ratnam also asked him to give 3-4 tunes for every lyric before one was selected. The music of Raavan took more time than Rahman could afford, with the result that other Indian assignments primarily Abbas Tyrewala's John Abraham-Pakhi starrer got left behind."
At the moment Rahman is back again in Chennai for mixing the music of Abbas' film. But the background score of the film which releases in October is still to be done.
No one is admitting it, but one of the primary reasons why Tyrewala's film got delayed is the music score which Rahman has been serving up piecemeal, for no fault of his, since the composer was committed to be out of the country for half the year for his world concerts.
Says the source, "Rahman had to continuously keep breaking his international tours and other projects to be home for various reasons, like the music release of Raavan and other things. He has begun to feel that his international career would never take off if he has to keep returning home."
Abbas Tyrewala, in Chennai with Rahman for the mixing of his film's music, jumps to the composer's defence. "Yes Rahman has been a little tied up and therefore unable to deliver quickly. But that's because he has to be constantly moving back and forth between India and the US. Raavan took much longer than Rahman thought. I'm not worried about my music. It's almost done. Whatever time Rahman takes is finally worth the while."
In the meanwhile, Rahman has not signed a single new assignment in Mumbai or Chennai in the last few months.
After completing Abbas Tyrewala's music, Rahman will now focus on consolidating his career abroad.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 27 Jul 2010 | 3:21 am Osian's Cinefan film fest cancelledAficionados of world cinema in the capital will miss on some international films as the annual Osian's-Cinefan Film Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema has been cancelled this year.Source: Entertainment News | 27 Jul 2010 | 3:12 am Female don threatens Ajay Devgn - Hindustan Times

KAJRAARE has been pushed ahead! Initially slated for release on 6th August, the film will now release on Eid, on 10th September. That's the buzz in the industry. The postponement has come as a surprise, since the promotion of the film is in full gear.
Bhushan Kumar, the producer of KAJRAARE, sheds light on the issue, "Yes, we are not releasing the film on 6th August. In fact, we haven't taken a call on the new date yet." The buzz is that the film will now hit the screens on Eid. Will it withstand the tough competition posed by DABANGG and WE ARE FAMILY? "It's uncertain at the moment. We will arrive at a decision [on the new date] within a week or so," he states.
Why this sudden shift? "Our distributors are of the opinion that we shouldn't release the film during the holy month of Ramzan. Also, since we are planning to have a really big release in Pakistan, releasing the film during Ramzan would've hampered the business prospects. In view of the fact, we decided to shift the film to a latter date," the head honcho of T-Series reveals.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 27 Jul 2010 | 12:56 am 'Ishqiya 2': Is a sequel on the cards?
Is Vishal Bhardwaj planning a sequel to the much-acclaimed ISHQIYA? At least that's what a section of the media would like us to believe. But the news is mere speculation. In fact, the thought of making a sequel hasn't even crossed my mind," ISHQIYA director Abhishek Chaubey clarifies.
So what is the talented director making next? "I have commenced writing my next script. This one's set in North India. The screenplay will take another two months to complete and only then will we take it further," Abhishek divulges. Is his mentor Vishal Bhardwaj producing the film? "Yes, he is. At an inspiring and solemn graduation ceremony befitting the University of London, Mr. Yash Chopra was awarded an honorary higher doctoral degree, a DLit, a Doctor of Letters honoris causa, for having made an outstanding contribution to the field of cinema in his six decades of work in the Hindi film industry, by the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
The function held on Friday, 23rd July 2010, opened with an impressive procession, which included Heads of Departments, Senior Management and the Presidents of the Students' Union, entering the Hall to a musical accompaniment. The Director and Principal of SOAS, Professor Paul Webley and The President of SOAS, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, welcomed the graduates and their guests. One of the highlight of the ceremony was the Presentation of an honorary doctorate to Mr. Yash Chopra. Professor Rachel Dwyer, the public orator, read a citation in tribute to Mr. Chopra and the President, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, presented the degree.
Mr. Yash Chopra's career and his work was compared with the greats of the Indian film industry. Professor Dwyer said that his films use a melodramatic form to show emotions at their deepest and rawest and that the dialogues and the song lyrics of Yash Chopra's films are remembered and recited almost as mantras, as they describe things that are hard to say, using language, imagery and music in a perfect balance. She pointed out that Yash Chopra continues to innovate with every film he makes and remains young at heart, always interested in how people think, feel and behave.
Mr. Yash Chopra's love of London and his connections with SOAS, one of the first universities to offer a course in mainstream Indian cinema, began in 1992. Professor Dwyer further said the graduates should be inspired by Mr. Yash Chopra's success, learn his dedication, hard work, focus and his ways of rising above failure, saying that his films have brightened the lives of people from the poorest to the richest, from heads of states to humble people. He has been honoured by royalty, presidents and prime ministers and this DLit was a mark of the esteem in which the academic community of professors and students holds him.
Mr. Chopra in his response said, "I am humbled by this honour and would like to thank SOAS for this recognition. My filmmaking has always been from the heart and I would like to pass on this same message to students all over the world".
Mr. Yash Chopra has previously been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by The Leeds Metropolitan University, UK in 2007, The Punjab University, Chandigarh, India, in 2008 and The Guru Nanak University, Amritsar, India, in 2004, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 26 Jul 2010 | 10:06 am Inception leads Salt as the top grosser this weekendIn the revenue battle of the two action flicks DiCaprio's Inception earned $43.5 million to the $36.5 million against Jolie's Salt as per the early studio estimates.Inception stands at the top with its two week (total ten days) earnings at $143.7 mnSource: merinews: Entertainment News Articles | 26 Jul 2010 | 9:48 am Check Out: Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in Enthiran - The Robot
One of the most eagerly awaited films of this year is the Rajinikanth - Aishwarya Rai starrer Enthiran - The Robot. The film, a trilingual (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi), is directed by one of the hottest directors down South- Shankar.
Enthiran - The Robot is touted as one of the most expensive films with a heavy dose of special effects. No wonder then that the film has been in the making for quite some time now. However, there is good news for fans who have been eagerly awaiting this film. The music of the film composed by none other than Oscar winner A. R. Rahman is all set to release on 31 July. In fact a grand music release function has been planned in Malaysia where the entire cast and crew is expected.
One of the highlights of this film is that Rajinikanth would be seen without his famed moustache in most parts thereby making him look much younger. The last time director Shankar and actor Rajinikanth came together they created magic with Sivaji-The Boss. Hope that Enthiran - The Robot manages to live up to its hype and breaks all Box Office records when it releases later this year.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Jul 2010 | 9:04 am "I am playing the role of a boy called Shoaib, who stays in Dongri" - Emraan Hashmi

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 26 Jul 2010 | 6:23 am Madhur Bhandarkar's 'comic crisis', shooting cancelled
Though Madhur Bhandarkar is shooting a comedy-his career's first, we might add-things are far from funny in his real life at the moment.
Just when the comedy Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji began shooting this month after monsoonal delays, the director's mother was hospitalized. Madhur had to shuttle between Hinduja hospital and his set in Andheri in the suburbs of Mumbai, and try to see the funny of side life on camera while his mother lay critically ill.
As if coping with an emotional crisis was not enough Madhur's leading man Ajay Devgn had to leave for a promotional tour of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai on Saturday leaving Madhur's comedy bereft of its main character.
The director's problems don't end there. On Thursday, one precious day of shooting had to be cancelled because the set had to be re-designed.
Sounding utterly distressed Madhur says, "Ajay had to leave for Delhi and Kolkata for his promotion. And shooting got cancelled on Thursday. So I had just one day to finish his work for this schedule. Luckily Ajay is a quick actor. He doesn't waste time on the sets."
Even otherwise shooting funny scenes with one's mom in the hospital is not easy.
Says Madhur, "Luckily Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji is not a slapstick comedy. The mood on the sets is subtle. If everyone had to constantly scream shout and whoop it up, I don't know how I'd have coped."
The one good thing that has come out of the gloomy week of illness, cancellations and other glitches is the director's bonding with Ajay Devgn.
Madhur can't stop raving about his hero. "Ajay is so hassle-free and chilled out. He is effortless on the sets. I want to work immediately again with him."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 26 Jul 2010 | 6:03 am Check out: Pradhuman Singh sans his 'Laden' make up
With the unexpected success of the political satire Tere Bin Laden, plans are afoot to create an ongoing series of films featuring the Laden look-alike played by Pradhuman Singh.
The success of the desi Laden has taken the film's makers by surprise. Director Abhishek Sharma admits creating a franchise out of the Laden character is an idea being serious explored specially since the humour on Laden has been taken in the right spirit.
Singh who has been in-character playing Laden even off -screen is a bit more cautious in his enthusiasm to reprise the role. "It would depend entirely on the writing. Abhishek Sharma who's almost like a childhood buddy-I know him since I was 17- worked hard to bring the idea of a poor Laden look-alike who creates a global stir, come alive. Now to carry the idea forward without seeming to simply cash in on a successful formula, we need a script that is as funny if not funnier."
Pradhuman who acted at the age of 20 when he was in the National School Of Drama gave up acting entirely and has now returned to acting with a role he never though he could pull off. "When Abhishek suggested I play a character that's mistaken for Laden, I was zapped. I had never even remotely thought I resembled Laden. But now that the character has been liked I don't mind playing him again."
Another Laden in-blunder land saga is on the anvil. And this character may become Hindi cinema's first formal farcical franchise in the tradition of Larry Charles' Borat played by Sacha Baron Cohen.
Says Pradhuman, "I've gotten so used to being dressed as Laden/Noora, I had almost forgotten what I really look like. I'd wake up in the morning without makeup and wonder who the stranger in the mirror was. We got a really good makeup person, Vikram Gaekwad, to do my 'Osama' makeup."
The makeover was so complete and convincing even Pradhuman's girlfriend (a law student) was fooled.
"But in spite of being constantly dressed as Osama, I suffer from 'no identity' crisis. As a trained actor from the NSD, I can get in and out of character without missing a beat," says Pradhuman who now heads home to Delhi to celebrate the success of Tere Bin Laden with his family.
Then he returns to Bollywood to start from scratch. "I've to convince filmmakers that the person I played in Tere Bin Laden looks very different from me."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Jul 2010 | 5:11 am T-Series acquires Eros Music's forthcoming titles

Taking offence to a story about the pandemonium in Sajid Nadiadwala's office over the leakage of pictures of Anjaana Anjaani, director Siddharth Anand says, implying that he or his wife, the talented stylist Mamta Bhatia-Anand had anything to do with it was not only absurd but highly offensive.
Says the protective husband, "My wife doesn't need to publicize herself by getting herself clicked with Ranbir and Priyanka. She may not be high-profile but she has been a reputed stylist for quite a few years. She has styled everyone from Saif to Shahid to Ranbir. To imply that she would ever be responsible for leaking out stills of my film is ridiculous."
As for being questioned about the pic-leakage, Siddharth fumes, "Anjaana Anjaani is my film. No one can question me or my wife about it."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 26 Jul 2010 | 2:59 am
