Pixion's VFX for Tere Bin Laden makes it more hilarious

Who ever thought that a film that has an Osama look alike would go down well with audience? But proving all else wrong Tere Bin Laden, presented by Walkwater media and produced by Pooja Shetty Deora and Aarti Shetty, with debutant director Abhishek Sharma at its helm opened at the box office to an excellent response. Where on one side industry bigwigs like Aamir Khan, Karan Johar and Salman Khan gave the film a thumbs up, it also got a great response from the critics and audience alike. Apart from the Punjabi spouting cute Osama look a like, what makes the film more than just a comedy flick and an offbeat staple Bollywood masala melange is the visual effects (VFX) executed by Mumbai-based VFX house Pixion. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Pixion VFX Head Viral Thakkar shared, "The VFX used in the film was intended to help the narrative of the film. At most of the places, the effects where invisible but complimented the gripping storyline." The work for Tere Bin Laden was divided between two facilities of Pixion, Mumbai and Chennai. "It took us around four months to complete the 150 shots with 27 artists working on them. The key people who made this project possible were Ranadheer Reddy (Compositing head - Mumbai) and Harihara Suthan (Vfx Head - Chennai)," added Viral. In a special VFX showcase series by Bollywood Hungama, we bring you an exclusive VFX making, courtesy Pixion and Walkwater Media.

Akshay Kumar's spiritual trip to Nagpur

In Bollywood, there are two things that are real, natural and are straight from the heart. One is 'Maa Ka Aashirwaad' and second is 'Devi Maa Ka Aashirwaad'. One star in Bollywood who is known for his spiritual devotion is none other than the 'Khiladi' Kumar aka Akshay Kumar, who, these days, is extremely busy touring the country for the promotions of his forthcoming movie Khatta Meetha. Besides the cycle marathon in Pune that Akki participated in, he had also visited Nagpur city, where he visited a series of religious places. In fact, he offered his prayers at not only the famous Ganesh Tekdi temple but also at a Gurudwara and a mosque. In addition, he also made a visit to the famed Baba Saheb Ambedkar statue. Well, after the spiritual path, he took the promotional route and headed straight to Cinemax, to meet thousands of fans who were waiting to get a mere glance of him. If the B.O. collections of Khatta Meetha turn out to be as promising as the promos, then, we all know whom Akki will offer his thanksgivings to!

"I can't draw parallels between my characters in Company & OUATIM" - Ajay Devgn

Ajay Devgn So here's a line up of Ajay Devgn's forthcoming projects: Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Golmaal 3, Toonpur Ka Superhero and his next directorial venture which he is busy fielding in his mind. For the moment though, Ajay Devgn is on a high once again with Once Upon... The National Award winning actor recalls his days when he shot for Company and he is in no mood to draw parallels with his previous best with RGV, "I can't compare the challenges. Yes, the genre is somewhat same but the characters are radically different. Malik in Company was cold and conniving, Sultan in Once Upon… is more flamboyant, magnanimous and warm. He is very stylized. With the roles being different as much as the story lines, I really can't draw parallels at this point." And then what about his most successful stint commercially? The Golmaal trilogy. Devgn can't stop talking about his three film old family, "Fabulous. Golmaal is always fun, we do lots of masti on the sets; it's a three film old family so it has been a great journey. Rohit is a good friend and for Golmaal 3, he had predicted that by hook or by crook he would wrap up the shoot by 16th July. Surprisingly, we did end on that day, not even an hour of schedule extension, he is extremely efficient and I am eagerly awaiting the shift from a gangster flick to a comic caper." But the Ajay we have known for years on screen is emotional too. He was, if you recall, when he directed his first film titled U, Me Aur Hum with wife Kajol. It did garner some critical acclaim. So when is the master of all ready for his second one? Devgn answers, "Yes, U Me Aur Hum was a concept that I had believed in very strongly or else I wouldn't have made it. Direction is obviously on my mind and I have been dabbling with an idea. Right now I'm working on it so I will talk about it when it is ready." What completes this man called Ajay Devgn is that he is the first and the only Indian actor turned producer turned director who is venturing into animation. Yes, his most ambitious project is on hold at the moment: Toonpur Ka Superhero. But, for a reason. If all goes well, we will see hubby and wifey together once again in December with this kiddie flick. "Any animation takes time at least 2-3 years. It is technology intensive filmmaking so fine tuning has kept us occupied. We wanted to make Toonpur Ka Superhero at par with Hollywood. But if all goes well we are looking at a December release", said the superhero himself.

Priyanka's parents surprise her to tears

Normally Priyanka Chopra is not the kind of girl who displays emotions, not even in front of her own family. But on the night of 16 July when her parents threw a small pre-birthday party at home for her and her close friends, Priyanka for the first time cried openly. It was not the well-organized party where her mother cooked her favourite Punjabi dishes. It was the gift that her parents bought her, a 6-carat diamond ring, which made Priyanka bawl like a baby. Says a close friend who was at the get-together. "The minute she saw the gift Priyanka burst into tears. We were shocked because we had never seen her like that." Apparently, Priyanka proudly wore the ring to her beachside holiday although her parents warned her she might drop it in the water. Priyanka's brother Siddharth who celebrates his birthday a week before his sister kept teasing her about hiding the ring before she left. Incidentally, Priyanka had arranged a surprise birthday party at China House at the Grand Hyatt for her brother. Says PC's close friend, "It was his 21st birthday and very special. Priyanka looked into every detail personally although she was shooting for Saat Khoon Maaf. Siddharth who has just returned from a year-long course on the culinary arts from Switzerland cooked Priyanka's favourite pasta for her birthday."

"James Bond is fantasy but it is Mr Bean who will always be adored" - Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar It is always a fun exercise to have Akshay talk at length when it comes to matters related to his movies. Reason being that you don't expect diplomatic and ready to serve answers that are so predictable that you can almost see them coming even before you are through with your question mark. The man too is enjoying this phase where quotable quotes have become the order of the day. In an exclusive two part conversation, Akshay Kumar gets talking to Joginder Tuteja on his latest outing with Priyadarshan, comparisons with men like Amol Palekar and Farooq Sheikh who excelled in roles that were written for 'a common man', his current leading lady Trisha and his 'most wanted on screen pairing' with Katrina Kaif. The film is titled Khatta Meetha. What's the relevance of this title here? It's a very sweet and sour movie!! What more can I say apart from - you will feel just about every emotion there is in this film - Guaranteed! Akshay Kumar as a common man - Now that's quite a journey from being a Hollywood stunt director (Kambakkht Ishq) to a 'kadka' (De Dana Dan) to a 'panauti'(Housefull). Isn't it? I know, but it helps being a chameleon in this industry (winks). Which is why I love what I do; it's impossible for me to be bored in life. I am lucky, everyday is different and every movie has some new diverse challenge. Each director tries so hard to be different from the next as does every actor. I have to be versatile. I can't release these many movies and still be 'me' in front of the camera. I have to distance my characters roles. It helps being a chameleon in this industry But really, when Priyadarshan told you to wear those white shirts, brown trousers and leather slippers, wasn't your first reaction that of horror? After all not many leading actors are expected to get into such attire. I know but I have never been a fussy or a vain kind of guy. When I found out what I had to wear, I was thrilled. I love change (plus I was secretly looking forward to the comfort). I love to play and dress like a character rather than what's 'in' or 'expected' at the moment. Don't get me wrong; I love fashion but I'm here to makes movies, create stories, take people to a different world for a couple of hours and not just be cool enough for a portal highlight or a cover magazine all the time. In fact the moment I saw the first look of the film, I felt that in 70s/80s, such roles would have been done by the likes of Amol Palekar or Farooq Sheikh. After all it was their breed of actors who excelled in such roles. You too are consciously stepping into the shoes of such 'simple men'? Well in all honesty we are all 'simple men'. It's just opportunities that separate us. Every time when I know that I am not going to be seen in the public eye, I am wearing my track pants. If I am not pulling up at a red carpet event, I drive my little CRV. All men were born simple, either jobs or wives or reputations and society, that's what gets in the way of men being our lazy selves. The likes of Amol and Farooq were classics because every man connected with them. That's why James Bond is a fantasy but it is Mr Bean who will always be adored (smiles). When I know that I am not going to be seen in the public eye, I am wearing my track pants You have Trisha making her Bollywood debut opposite you in Khatta Meetha. What was it that made you give a go ahead for a newcomer in Hindi cinema? After all you could have had any leading lady working with you. I trust Priyadarshan more than anyone I suppose. I had heard a lot about Trisha and that was enough to follow Priyanji blindly. Anyways like I said earlier, I love change. Many a successful heroine has debuted with me and I pride myself in that fact. It gives everyone that bit of extra courage then. There is a perception that Trisha may well have a much smaller role in the film, just as was the case for Katrina Kaif in De Dana Dan. Do you wish to state the fact here? All I can state is that I have nothing to do with the size of my co-stars' roles 'ever'. Anyways, with most Priyadarshan's movies, no one knows the script or what's going on (smiles). Even Urvashi (Sharma) who is playing my sister used to come up to me and ask me - 'What is going on? What happens next?' That's the thrill of working with Priyanji; no one knows! With most Priyadarshan's movies, no one knows the script or what's going on Talking about Priyan, your combination with him has fetched 100% success rate. By the look of the things, it pretty much seems to be the case of the trend continuing with Khatta Meetha too, right? By God's grace, it is so far so good! I have always felt a sense of security when I work with Priyadarshan, not only because of his track record, but because he really is a movie genius. Not all movies are meant to be overtly successful; after all some of my favourite films have been my biggest flops sometimes. It's all down to fate at the end of the day, I know I work hard and that's all I can ask of myself. (Visit this space again for Part II of the interview)

Still, even with her professional life rocking, what with films that she has done in languages all over (Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali), Sameera isn't finding much time for love. Instead she is busy keeping herself happy with a life that is made of her family, friends, vacations, travel and other fun outings that don't quite make her miss the presence of that knight in the shining armour. Also, now she is willing to let out her true self and wants the world to know her for what she is in real life. You are no more being seen as someone who is diplomatic or politically correct. Whatever happened to the adage of an actor being prip, proper and righteous when it comes to her being written about? (Laughs) It was pretty plain and simple actually. I decided that I had to be with people the way I really am in real life. An individual grows over a period of time and my personality too has changed in the last eight years ever since I made my debut with Maine Dil Tujhko Diya. At the beginning of my career, I was told that during my interviews yeh mat kaho ya phir woh mat kaho. You know, things like 'I don't have a boyfriend' etc. etc. There was this set of rules that was given to me. It started sounding a little silly after a point in time. I woke up and decided for myself that I don't have to live as per things that were told to me So how did the change happen? You know, for the first couple of years I followed what was told to me. Then I started wondering that why was I doing that. When I am such a 'moonhphat' (outspoken) in real life then why am I trying to be this coy and proper girl who could do no wrong? Also, if I had a personal life that involved a lot of travelling and other skill building then why not talk to people about that? If they want to know more about the other side of me which was different than being just an actress, they ought to get that information. I no more wanted to be scared of what I was and how I had to be with people. It happened just one fine morning when I woke up and decided for myself that I don't have to live as per things that were told to me. Or for that matter do the kind of roles that others wanted me to do. You also have to enjoy the experience of making a film, something that I have come to realise in the last few years Talking about roles, in any case it is a known fact world over that actors get mature after being in the business for 5-6 years. In that context, do you also believe that this is exactly the reason why diverse roles across different languages are coming your way? Well, I would also attribute it to the mindset change that I myself brought in. Seriously, when I entered the film world, I was this starry eyed girl who used to think that all I had to worry about was the banner, hero and my role and things would fall in place. I did Musafir - a movie about which I am very proud of - and thought that yeh mujhe yahan-wahan le jaayegi. I was happy that chalo yahan good kapde hain, styling hai, top co-stars hain; so everything would be quite hunky-dory eventually. But asliyat mein sirf yahi baat nahi hoti hai. You also have to enjoy the experience of making a film, something that I have come to realise in the last few years.

The whole cast was shooting together in Spain for Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara by participating in one of Spain's biggest festive events, the Encierro, or Running Of The Bulls festival.
