One actor who seems to have benefitted the most from the success of 3 Idiots is Omi Vaidya. Omi, who played the role of the nerdy Chatur Ramalingam in the blockbuster film to perfection, has now bagged some really plum projects.
Only recently Omi was signed by Madhur Bhandarkar to play one of the lead roles alongside Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi in the rom-com Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji and even as he begins shooting for that film, the talented actor has bagged yet another prestigious project.
Director duo Abbas-Mustan have roped in Omi to play a pivotal role in their remake of the Hollywood hit- The Italian Job. The role is said to be as big as any lead role and needless to say Omi is thrilled to bits. Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Katrina Kaif are part of the cast of this big project while Omi is the latest addition.

After venturing into the TV space last year, Yash Raj Films, one of the country's top production houses is all set to launch a new films division that would specifically target the youth. The division which is apparently called Yash Raj Youth will work towards promoting new, young and fresh talent.
Most of the actors, directors, script-writers who will be working for this division will be youngsters. Commenting on this, Rafiq Gangjee, VP- Marketing and Communications YRF said, "Yes...we are launching a new youth films division. However, we will sign new talent on the basis of the requirement of the script and characters, not necessarily limited to the 16-22 age groups."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 10 Jul 2010 | 5:37 am "Tees Maar Khan is crisp script which I've written with Shirish" - Ashmith Kunder
So here's what the common man in India knows about a particular film. They know the name of the actors, directors and the films music directors, if more than one. Add a few singers if the song is a blockbuster hit. For the audiences, that's what cinema is all about. But the real people who make it all happen are the technicians. Few of them and the most crucial individuals are the editors and the writers of the film. Enter Ashmith Kunder, the latest of the combinations of the two mentioned designations. Though he's cut celluloid for some of the best in the business, chances are many film lovers wouldn't even recognize the name Ashmith Kunder in a lineup of one of Bollywood's most creative film editors. Farah Khan's brother in law and Shirish Kunder's brother is just what he was born with. But what describes Ashmith, is his passion and his belief, that a bad day in the cutting room is still better than a good day on any other job. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent talks to the writer of Tees Maar Khan and the editor of Lamhaa on industry's lost identity and much more.
You've edited quite a few films before, so what's so unique about the edit of Lamhaa?
The script of Lamhaa is the result of extensive research. The director had lots to say about the issue of Kashmir and the entire film was shot using 2 cameras. Though the film is based on real issues it is ultimately fiction and a Sanjay Dutt starrer. So I had to maintain a realistic edit structure and at the same time keep it stylish, edgy and fast paced to keep the audience engaged.
So what's the case in the South Indian Film Industry then?
That's not the case with the south Indian film industry. For example: While I was Editing Kamal Haasan's Dasaavataram in Chennai, the taxi driver who picked me up enquired how I was involved with the film. When I told him that I was the Editor of Dasaavataram, he asked me how was that possible as all the films of Director KS Ravikumar are edited by one particular Editor. It took me some time to convince him that this was a special case as Kamal Haasan specifically wanted me to edit the film as it was a very complex one. Imagine a taxi driver, a common man, knows which Director works with which technician. I don't see that day coming in the Hindi film industry anytime soon.
What are the challenges you face while writing a comic film. What's the most difficult genre to tap into as a writer?
To be honest I hardly face any challenges in writing a comic film, as my forte lies in comedy. The only challenge is to write the comedy script keeping the budget in mind, as not many big stars are interested in doing comedy. No big stars mean - no budget for execution. Do you think any big star here will be interested in doing something like Austin Powers? That kind of a comedy film requires good budget for execution.
And the most difficult genre to tap into for any writer is one, which does not come naturally to him.... Like for me Horror doesn't come naturally!

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 10 Jul 2010 | 5:14 am "I am not moving away from an image" - Sameera Reddy
If buzz is to be believed, Sameera Reddy is one of the many surprises that this week's release Red Alert - The War Within has to offer. Though the film has been ready for a while and making rounds of the festival circuits, Sameera Reddy has been patiently waiting for the response to this film back home in India. Based on the Naxal movement in India, the film has Sameera Reddy in an important role but what makes it special is the fact that it has her coming out of the sensual image that has been built ever since she first made waves with the likes of Musafir, Taxi No. 9211, Naksha and Race.
One wonders if after the release of Red Alert, she would be focusing more on off beat subjects. Also, if that would mean that audience will miss Sameera from the past who was all oomphy and knew how to get the glamour quotient bang on film after film?
"No, I am not running away from glamour by any means. That was there and it is going to stay. However, it is nice to bring in variety and after a hat trick of successes like Race, One Two Three and De Dana Dan, it is good to have a release like Red Alert. The film has made waves internationally and I am sure this will continue in India as well, now that the film has arrived in theatres", says Sameera who is positive about getting good recognition coming in for her performance.
Meanwhile she seems to be happy shifting genres. While commercial Hindi films are surely and certainly happening, an offbeat Red Alert along with a few Bengali flicks also forms an important part of her yearly schedule. She must be happy to find herself in a situation like this?
"Of course I am", immediately responds Sameera, "Commercial blockbusters are good because at the end of the day, I have to cater to that rickshaw-wallah as well who is spending his hard earned money to watch me on screen. Yes, this leads to a question whether I am sticking to any particular image or making any conscious effort to change it. Aisa nahi hota hai. At the end of the day I am an actor and there is no conscious or subconscious effort to do something different."
Talking about the variety of roles that are now coming her way with film makers rising up to rope her in for different cinema, Sameera gushes, "It was great to have a role in film like Kaalpurush that won National Award. Red Alert too has had its bag full of awards. Then I have done Yeh Hausla, a film with Nagesh Kukunoor which by far has my best performance. He is definitely one of the best directors I have worked with. It is films like these that make me realise what my true potential is."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 10 Jul 2010 | 5:13 am Megan Fox 'shows-off' her wedding ring

After three back-to-back action films - Mani Ratnam's Raavan, Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se and Abhinay Deo's Game - Abhishek Bachchan has had enough action to last him a while. He's all set for a complete change of pace with 3 comedies to be directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Anees Bazmee and Vipul Shah.
The decision to move away from grueling back-breaking physically exertive action for a while is a conscious one.
Abhishek has just returned from the shooting of Game in Greece and Istanbul
And it's instant replay in terms of gruelling action. The action scenes in Game were the opposite of the ones in Raavan. While Abhishek's character in Raavan had to survive by instinct in the jungles, in Game Abhishek performed some slick technically precise stunts.
So is he deliberately phasing out his career from project to project, genre to genre? Protests Abhishek, "I'm not the calculating actor. I don't choose the genres. Rather the genres choose me. I follow my heart."
The challenge now is, how to make Dostana 2 funnier. Says Abhishek, "Initially I was against doing a sequel to Dostana. I couldn't see how Tarun Mansukhani could make it funnier. How could he rise to the occasion. Tarun said, 'Let me write the script. You'll be the first person I'd narrate it to. If you don't like it then I'd throw it out.' Believe me Dostana 2 would be twice as funny as Dostana."
Another sequel to a sequel Dhoom 3 is also about to begin. "Dhoom 3 is being scripted. Dhoom is nothing without Uday and my character. Uday Chopra and I are the film's backbone."
Lots of work for Abhishek. "I am impatient. I like to do a lot of work. I'm happy with the zest with which I work. If tomorrow I want to do only one film a year, I'll do that. Right now I'm enjoying being a prolific actor. How many actors can claim to have done two films as diverse as Paa and Raavan one after another?"Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 10 Jul 2010 | 4:22 am Subhash K. Jha speaks about Milenge Milenge
There is a kind of subverted joy in watching Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor play a Valentinian romance with full-throttle gusto.
Milenge Milenge took its time to come to the theatres. Yes, it's old fashioned in theme. But not dated. The material which must have been quite bulky by the time Kaushik was done with shooting has been cut and pasted with restrained enthusiasm. What we have is a paper-thin, sometimes cute at times annoying rom com where destiny plays a pivotal part. Kiss-mat, anyone? Yup, intimacy is fugitive between Shahid and Kareena. But they nonetheless look like a real pair.
The plot plods at a pace that suggests love is just about the only force that keeps the universe moving. Both the protagonists play professionals. But we hardly see them work except on their ever-palpitating hearts.
The plot invents various devices from missed flights to truant elevators to hero in drag and heroine in glycerine to keep the love birds apart for two hours. There are some heart-warming moments depicting random hearts pumping into a collective despair as time ticks by.
There's no attempt to pull punches, no over-clever dialogues and no effort to paint and gloss the feeling of love with sassy 'cool' lines. Director Satish Kaushik plays the romance on the straight and narrow path. And that's just about the most comforting aspect of this basic simple and predictable boy-meets-girl tale.
The principal performances range from precocious to authentic. Surprisingly Shahid tends to go overboard in the early comic sequences. But he makes up for the excesses in the second-half with expressions of a lover's anguish over Cupid's awry arrow.
Kareena looks gorgeous and slim in some scenes, gorgeous and relatively plump in other scenes. In totality the chemistry is quite palpable, much more so than in some of the other much-hyped love stories that arrived lately with a bang and fizzled out without the pang of love being palpable in a single frame.
In Milenge Milenge you do FEEL for the lovers. Maybe it has to do with the fact that we know what the film's lovers do not. That the actors playing them were at involved not too long ago. But hush!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 10 Jul 2010 | 4:15 am Take your pick, Mr BAfter the success of Cheeni Kum (2007) and Paa (2009), director R Balki has narrated six story ideas to Amitabh Bachchan.Source: | 10 Jul 2010 | 4:14 am Ladakh Confluence called off by forceMusicians lash out at political groups for forcing cancellation. Pasta is passé. Abbas Tyrewala compares his new film to Sushi. And thinks Hrithik's pasta parallel for Kites was inapt.
Last week, director Abbas Tyrewala was spotted on the sets of Siddharth Anand's Anjaana Anjaani in earnest discussion with choreographer Ahmed Khan who was shooting a club song with Ranbir and Priyanka.
While Ahmed was pleading his inability to choreograph the song, Abbas was insistent. The director needs to bring an element of identifiable glamour music and masti into his film. Piggy riding Anjaana Anjaani into a romantic mood seems a safe bet.
Apparently, Abbas is urgently in need of giving his untitled film a specific marketing spin. But the problem is the love story in Abbas' film has no reference point.
Says Abbas, "Forget a reference point. There's no definite image or idea to create a sense of identification with the protagonists. I don't have a title as yet. No my film not called Call Me...Dil. In my first film Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na there was at least the youthful theme to create a marketing base. In my second film there's a new leading lady who happens to be my wife and John who goes against his image and doesn't take off his shirt even once. It's a love story. But the audiences have no way of relating to it because they haven't seen anything like it."
So would Abbas use Hrithik Roshan's image from Kites of trying to feed pasta to those who are used to biryani?
Protests Abbas, "Not at all. Pasta like biryani is filling and sumptuous. How do I market a delicate piece like my film? It's like trying to convince guests at a dinner joint to have sushi instead of biryani."
This is where Ahmed Khan's choreography comes in. Abbas Tyrewala wants to use Khan's choreographic skills to create a sense of identification for his unconventional love story with the audience.
Ahmed Khan apparently had no dates to spare. Now Abbas has persuaded the choreographer to shoot a song with John and Pakhi from July 14 to 16 July.
Says Abbas, "It took some convincing. But we needed Ahmed's dancing to generate that right amount of youthful pep and zest in the audiences' mind."
Abbas is counting on the far more conventional Anjaana Anjaani which releases a fortnight before his film, to generate the right romantic ambience for the John-Pakhi film.
Says Abbas, "Let's admit it. Any member of the audience would give anything to see Priyanka and Ranbir together. I'm hoping some of that audience would be there waiting to see John and Pakhi. We are counting on Anjaana Anjaani to create a romantic atmosphere for our film. Then maybe they'd accept sushi after biryani."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 9 Jul 2010 | 2:44 am
