Anant Mahadevan directed Red Alert - The War Within has made people sit up and take notice worldwide. In last year's Stuttgart Film Festival 2009, this drama about the naxalite movement in India had received a standing ovation after it was screened as the closing film of the festival. Not just that, it was also hailed by international critics and also presented with 'Director's Vision Awards'.
"The response to Red Alert - The War Within had truly humbled me", says Anant Mahadevan who had to patiently wait for the film to eventually release in India, "It is the kind of film that always had the potential to qualify as world cinema. The film has an international appeal and relevance due to which it will certainly strike a chord outside India as well."
The film features Suneil Shetty as a farm labourer - Narsimha - who desperately needs money to fund the education of his children. He finds himself in the midst of Naxalites where his mission becomes a mere subset of a greater cause that the militant's pursue.
Talking further about the character of Narsimha, Ananth says that he could be a part of any movement in any part of the world.
"The film is set in India but then it could have been anywhere else in the world as well, whether it was Cuba or Ireland! Whenever a revolution has taken place somewhere, there are men like Narsimha who get trapped", he says.
Red Alert - The War Within is based on a real life story. Though the film is the account of one man, it asks a few questions that do people fight to protect a nation that has forgotten them? Or, do people fight to survive and feed them?
Now that the film is ready to be unveiled in India this Friday, Mahadevan understands that expectations would be higher up from here on.
'I need to pull up my socks now', he smiles, 'After getting recognition for my work, I can't afford to do anything lesser."
Produced by TP Aggarwal and Rahul Aggarwal, Red Alert - The War Within boasts of an impressive line up of ensemble cast that includes Vinod Khanna, Naseeruddin Shah and Gulshan Grover. Also starring Sameera Reddy, Seema Biswas, Ayesha Dharker, Bhagyashree, Ashish Vidhyarthi and Makarand Deshpande in principal roles, the film is written by Aruna Raje (most noted for her work in 'Rihaee', has action by Allan Amin, music by Lalit Pandit and lyrics by Javed Akhtar.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Jul 2010 | 3:14 am Hot Bollywood of this weekWith Lamhaa, Sanjay Dutt would finally be seeing a release nine months after All The Best and Alladin. Source: Entertainment - Google News | 7 Jul 2010 | 2:59 am Ranbir hosts wrap up party of Anjaana Anjaani at his bungalow
On Saturday, Ranbir Kapoor threw his first- ever bash at his bungalow Krishna Raj in Pali Hill.
It looks like childhood friend, director Siddharth Anand can make Ranbir Kapoor do things which no one else can. Otherwise Ranbir throwing a party, and that too at his home where not too many guests are allowed? No way!
On Saturday night Ranbir had a wrap-up party for the cast and crew of his new film Anjaana Anjaani where everyone from host Ranbir to his dost Siddharth to his delectable co-star Priyanka Chopra, plus the entire unit including the American actors who had flown down to Mumbai to shoot a club song for Anjaana Anjaani last week, had a blast till the wee hours on Sunday morning.
Says one of the guests, "Ranbir's mom had looked into every detail. The food was Punjabi home cooked and yummy. Ranbir's dad Rishi Kapoor had crashed by the time the party started. Chintu Uncle's sleeping habits are invariable. Even when he has his own dinner guests' home, he starts getting restless after 9.30 and begins to switch off the lights and air conditioners as hints for guests to leave. We expected him to wake up from all the noise we made and come up any moment to switch off the music."
Anjaana Anjaani producer Sajid Nadiadwala was conspicuous by his absence. He's recovering from his illness and holidaying in Europe.
Says the source, "It didn't make sense to wait for Sajid to return. A wrap-up party has to happen immediately after the last day of shooting or not at all."
When asked how Ranbir who doesn't party much, was persuaded to host a party at his place, Siddharth Anand said, "Oh, I think I can make Ranbir do things no one else can. While we were shooting for Anjaana Anjaani in the US, I made him gift me an expensive watch. Ranbir, my wife and I are teetotallers and full-on foodies. We went through as many restaurants in the US as possible."
Adds Siddharth, "The wrap-up party on Saturday would've been Ranbir's second party hosted by him. I had persuaded him to host a wrap-up party after the completion of our first movie together Bachna Ae Haseeno. But we got late completing the last shots of the title song in Bachna...So all the food was sent by Neetu Aunty to Yash Raj Studios. This time we made it to Ranbir's home after the song. And yes, it was Ranbir's first party. We had a ball on Saturday night."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 Jul 2010 | 2:56 am First Trailer - Peepli Live - Apun Ka Choice

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 7 Jul 2010 | 1:57 am Imran Khan and first-time directors - it's a lucky combo
One Friday changes equations. This holds true for the lead actors of any and every film. One Hit and the industry is back at your doorstep. One failure and the sms-es also stop. With I HATE LUV STORYS fetching an excellent start at the box-office, the industry seems to have re-discovered Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor. The two youngsters, who haven't had a smooth ride professionally, are the flavour of the season currently. Everyone's suddenly looking at Imran and Sonam with wide eyes.
While Sonam's AISHA is already being discussed [the promos have created a positive buzz], Imran will have to wait for a few months for his next release, BREAK KE BAAD, which is slated for 26th November release.
Like I HATE LUV STORYS, BREAK KE BAAD, produced by Kunal Kohli, is also a love story and what's more, is helmed by a first-time director - Danish Aslam. In fact, if you look at Imran's body of work, you will notice that whenver he has worked with first-time directors, the film has proved a success. Recall Abbas Tyrewala's JAANE TU YA JAANE NA and now Punit Malhotra's I HATE LUV STORYS, while films helmed by established directors like Sanjay Gadhvi [KIDNAP] and Soham Shah [LUCK] failed to create magic at the box-office.
Danish had assisted Kunal Kohli on films like THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC and FANAA and worked with Yash Raj Films on TA RA RUM PUM and SALAAM NAMASTE. Will BREAK KE BAAD, also helmed by a new director, prove lucky for Imran? Will it be a hat-trick with first-time directors, we will know on 26th November.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 Jul 2010 | 12:59 am Kareena and I bonded big time: Delnaz - Hindustan Times

In a unique way to promote its forthcoming film Udaan, UTV Motion Pictures conducted a large scale online among youngsters in the age group of 12-19 years. The idea behind this survey was to get an insight into the minds of a teenager and understand their behavioural patterns. Moreover since Udaan talks about the story of a father-son relationship and depicts what a teenage mind goes through, the makers thought that conducting such a survey would be a great idea to create awareness for their film. The survey was conducted across major Indian cities such as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi / NCR.
Following are some of the results of the survey:
Around 30% of teens said that if given a chance they would like to change their study stream / career
30% of the teens said that they were not comfortable talking to their parents about the problems faced by them
40% of boys had smoked in their teens
40% of girls and more than 50% of boys admitted to having consumed alcohol in their teens
More than half of the teens wanted the official age to drink to be lowered to 16
Around 45% of teens admitted to having stolen money from their parents without them knowing
2 out of every 3 boys admitted to having watched a porn film by the time they were 16 years old
1 out of every 4 girls admitted to having watched a porn film by the time they were 16 years old
1 out of every 3 boys admitted that they had bunked school to watch an adult film
Every second teen has already kissed someone of the opposite sex
15% of boys and girls acknowledged getting intimate with somebody in their school/ college loo
One out of every 5 teens (both boys and girls) claimed to have had sex
9 out of 10 boys and 7 out of 10 girls are ok with premarital sex
45% of teenage girls felt that if they got pregnant, they would go for an abortion without ever letting their parents know.
Nearly 1000 teenagers have already taken part in this survey and the makers UTV plan to incorporate the results on the posters, promos and other marketing campaign of their forthcoming film Udaan.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 6 Jul 2010 | 8:09 am Shraddha Kapoor bags 3 film deal with Yash Raj Films
Her debut film Teen Patti may have bombed at the Box Office but that hasn't deterred Shraddha Kapoor one bit. The pretty looking daughter of veteran villain Shakti Kapoor has apparently been signed by none other than Yash Raj Films and that too for a 3 film contract.
While details of the projects are yet to be confirmed, this one is surely a big deal for Shraddha Kapoor who is all set to make her presence felt in the big, bad world of Bollywood.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 6 Jul 2010 | 6:40 am Imran Khan and Karan Johar join hands once again after IHLS
After the encouraging and positive response to his latest release I Hate LUV Storys, Imran Khan is back in business. The actor has finally found that one hit that was eluding him for a while now and it has come courtesy this rom-com from the Dharma Productions banner.
Even as I Hate LUV Storys continues to run to packed houses, Karan Johar has already gone ahead and signed Imran for yet another film. The film in question will be directed by debutant director Shakun Batra who has worked as an assistant director on films like Rock On and Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na. Meanwhile, the buzz is that Kareena Kapoor may come on board as the female lead for this project. If that happens then it will indeed be a casting coup of sorts.
Imran, who has always confessed to being a huge fan of Bebo, will surely be super excited at the prospect of working with her that too in a Karan Johar production. Let's hope this one gets rolling soon.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 6 Jul 2010 | 6:19 am I hate luv storysThe film shows that Imran Khan who is not a perfect guy works with a production company who is into making of love stories based movies.Source: merinews: Entertainment News Articles | 6 Jul 2010 | 5:28 am "I don't want to be No. 1 or No. 10" - Sonam Kapoor
Imran Khan calls Sonam Kapoor a drama queen in real life. He also believes that she is a far better actor in real life than in reel life. All in good humour though. I don't know whether this is perfectly true or not. However, during a conversation with her, you do realise that she is one of the most expressive people from the film fraternity. No, it is not just the case of emotions oozing out. But Sonam is someone who hears you out and then comes up with her own take on the state of affairs. Of course with an expressive touch to it. You soon realise that Imran is right. One can be rest assured that the moment you press 'off the records' button, Sonam makes for an even brilliant copy. However, as of now, presenting the readers an 'on the records' version of the conversation that happened between her and Joginder Tuteja!
Your own career has now seen an up with IHLS though it was relatively down after Saawariya and Delhi 6, both of which failed at the box office.
Firstly, neither Saawariya nor Delhi 6 had failed. It's all a media perception. Please checks figures and facts, both of them did recover money eventually. Secondly, when I look back, it is so disheartening because all it takes is one write up to pan a film. They don't realise that there is so much that goes into the making of a film. No one wants to do any 'chaalu kaam' in the industry. Each one of us wants to come up with a good film and make it work.
Ok, but I am sure you would have expected much more from these films. Wasn't it heartbreaking since expectations were not met?
Films don't fail; it's the budget that fails. Saawariya and Delhi 6 may not have been blockbusters and could have been better but I am very proud of these films. I made some great relationships due to these films. I don't carry any heartbreak whatsoever. Also, I don't believe in looking backwards.
Well, your future does look exciting, what with Aisha, Thank You and Mausam being next in line. Quite some work happening here?
Yeah, I don't have a personal life currently (smiles). But that's ok. I am fortunate to have some good films coming next. I hope audience too likes them all. I am playing a variety of roles and I wish to continue working and acting all my life. I strive to do better with each of my outings.
...and aim to make a march towards that top slot?
See, quite a few actors say that they want to be number one and all. Some say that they are in the profession only for money. However, I don't want to be No. 1 or No. 10. Yes, if something good happens then that's a great plus point but I am not working to achieve that. I am here because I wish to be remembered for my work.
One hopes that you do get remembered, just as is the case with Imran who is seeing widespread appreciation coming his way ever since the release of IHLS.
Really, I have never met a person like Imran. I am happy for him. He carries with him the kind of integrity that I have seldom seen in many. There is nothing grey about him as he is very correct. He tells you what he feels in his heart. He is not someone who takes anything that you say in a wrong light.
Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 6 Jul 2010 | 4:17 am John Abraham's new role model is Aamir Khan
John has found a perfect role model. And it's Aamir Khan whose career strategies are rapidly becoming the most emulated in tinsel town.
Most of John's friends and Bipasha Basu think he has given his career's best performance in Abbas Tyrewala's new love story earlier entitled 1-800-Love now entitled Call Me...Dil after song in Tyrewala's film. Now that the date for the film has been locked in - it's October 15 - John is setting aside a large chunk of the year just to nurture and promote what he considers to be the most important film of his career.
John will personally supervise every aspect of the film release from publicity stills and posters to the chain of theatres to be selected, to the festivals that the film will be sent to before its commercial release.
If the diligent single minded release strategies remind you of a certain meticulous perfectionist of a Khan, then the resemblance is certainly not coincidental. John is definitely inspired by Aamir, and he has no qualms in admitting it.
Apparently, John was keen to release this film during Aamir's magical Christmas week. But the producers who have already suffered huge losses because of the postponements couldn't wait that long.
Since the film's director and producer are both close to Aamir (Tyrewala's debut film Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na was produced by Aamir and producer Madhu Mantena's blockbuster Ghajini starred Aamir) they've no objections whatsoever to John's Operation Aamir.
That isn't all. Apparently like Aamir, John has decided to stay away from all awards function, in India and abroad. Though he makes it clear he's friendly with all the awardees, John has also made it known that he won't attend any of the awards functions.
John confirms all his Aamir-inspired marketing manoeuvres. "Aamir is truly inspiring in the way he conducts his career. And his success ratio is mind-boggling. Who wouldn't want to follow in his footsteps? I certainly do. And I'm trying. In my own humble way I've been repeatedly taking risks with my career. Like Aamir I don't believe in staying in the comfort zone. As for awards, I think the endorsement that your performance gets from the audience provides more satisfaction for an actor than anything else."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 6 Jul 2010 | 3:30 am Aamir pokes fun at himself for 'Peepli Live'MUMBAI (Reuters) - Aamir Khan is having a laugh at his own expense.
