Eve joins a cast that includes Michael Fassbender as young Magneto and James McAvoy as young Professor X. Frost - who was originally a villain named the White Queen in the comics before becoming a teacher at Charles Xavier's school - has "telepathic powers" and wears "scantily clad costumes.” One would think that sartorial choice might make the telepathy thing kind of... awkward. [Heat Vision/HR] Spike on Deadline: Spike Lee is in negotiations to direct the action-thriller Nagasaki Deadline, which centers on an "emotionally damaged" FBI agent who must “decipher historic events in a race to avert a terrorist plot.” So sort of like the Amazing Race but with world destruction - not the bickering couple from Minnesota - as the biggest threat. [Variety] More Maroon: Maroon 5 has announced a second leg of its North American tour, this set of dates to begin October 2 in Denver and conclude October 29 in Manhomen, Minneota. OneRepublic will open all of the shows. Let's hope no raucous fights break out between these two groups' notoriously wild sets of fans. [Billboard] Clear Skies for Meatballs Duo: Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directing team behind the animated Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, are in final negotiations to write and direct Warner Bros.’ Lego toys movie. The details of the plot haven't been revealed yet, but it will feature an “adventure in the Lego world mixing live action and animation.” They've got their work cut out for them: the bar for toy movies is petty damn high nowadays. [Heat Vision/HR] Alphas Dog: David Strathairn is in negotiations for the lead in SyFy’s action-adventure 90-minute pilot Alphas, which will be directed by Lost’s Jack Bender. The show follows a team of “ordinary citizens possessing extraordinary and unusual mental skills” who “uncover what the CIA, FBI and Pentagon have not been able or willing to solve.” Strathairn would play the “overseer/team leader/prescribing doctor and all around mother hen to the team,” a description which could just as easily describe Jack Shepherd, which should make Bender feel right at home. Well, it seems what’s been holding them back, according to Angelina Jolie’s surprisingly frank Vanity Fair interview, is an understanding that most sequels are totally superfluous. "We did ask somebody to look into Mr. & Mrs. to see if they could crack a sequel, but there wasn't anything original,” she said. “It was just, 'Well, they're going to get married, or they've got kids, or they get separated.' Never great.”

These secret agents were planted in the U.S. and given fake identities and high-tech equipment in order to carry out a mission: "To search and develop ties in policymaking circles in the U.S. and to send reports to Center," according to the federal complaint. To do this, the feds say, they used all kinds of cool spy stuff, like invisible handwriting, short-wave radio, codes and ciphers, and "brush passes" (Defined as "the clandestine, hand-to-hand delivery of items or payments made as one person walks by another in a public place"). Just like in the movies! But the following interaction between two of the spies, "Richard Murphy" of New Jersey and "Michael Zottoli" of Virginia, at what sounds like Tillie's Coffee Shop in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, suggests it wasn't always all glamour and excitement and metal briefcases and mysterious women with severe bangs. From the complaint: At approximately 11 am, agents conducting surveillance in Brooklyn observed that Murphy and Zottoli meet at a pay phone located at the corner of Vanderbilt and DeKalb Avenues, and then walk to a nearby coffee shop. Zottolli and Murphy sat down at a table together where they stayed for approximately one hour and fifty minutes. During that time, law enforcement agents stationed inside the coffee shop overheard Murphy and Zottoli discussing the problems the Seattle conspirators were having with the computer equipment that they used for communicating with the center. In response to Zottoli's description of these communications problems, Murphy stated (in substance and in part), "This should help." Murphy further responded (in substance and in part), "If this doesn't work we can meet again in six months" and also said, "they don't understand what we go through over here."

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 28 Jun 2010 | 3:03 pm Hamptons Property Fight Brings Indignant Tears To Terry Semel's Eyes![]() Former Yahoo! CEO Terry Semel and his next-door neighbors on Further Lane in East Hampton, Jonathan and Peter Sobel, have been fighting in court for at least four years. The issue: a little extra house Semel built on his eight-acre property. You would think that the Sobels would just let it go—that's what Terry thought, too. But no. Instead it has erupted into "World War III," he told the East Hampton Town Zoning Board of Appeals last week. He approached the board meekly, speaking quietly at first. “I was hoping to come here for a peaceful summer,” he said. His voice quavered and broke at moments as he spoke, but he ended on a louder note saying that he would pursue the fight he says his Further Lane neighbors began. “I don’t care how long it takes or how much money it takes,” he said.
I Among them: Injustice. Indignity. Oppression. The curbing of a man's basic human freedom to build himself a massive mansion on a slip on sand in commemoration of his life on earth. This battle with the Sobels is like Semel's Vietnam, his Afghanistan, his Iraq. It's a quagmire, but he is soldiering on, because he knows it is the right thing to do. Others might buckle, others might look for an easy way out, but not Terry. He will stay strong: "If somebody wants a fight, they picked the wrong person,” he said. Nordstrom responded to the post on Twitter, saying, "Our policy is not 2 thicken or thin models. See original photo. We smoothed wrinkles, nipples & upped colr." They included the above before and after photo of Tao, but Tavi is still distrusting. The first day of the Senate's Supreme Court confirmation hearings is typically uneventful and barely watchable, consisting as it does of each member of the Judiciary Committee giving their opening statements, which become redundant almost immediately. The prevailing theme for Republicans today was that Kagan's judicial philosophy remains unknown, and, consequently, Kagan's beliefs will be interrogated especially closely. Democrats, meanwhile, took this opportunity to highlight what they call the judicial activism of the current court, especially with regard to pro-business decisions like Citizens United. And everyone brought up Kagan's 1995 paper in which she decried the "vapid and hollow charade" that confirmation hearings had become. Because you probably were not one of the half-dozen people to watch the whole thing, we've boiled down the essence of each senator's opening statement into a single sentence for your convenience. Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) The Supreme Court is very important to democracy, except when it makes terrible decisions like Citizens United. Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) Kagan broke the law as Dean of Harvard Law School, she's sad about the decline of socialism, she's soft on terror, and she opposes freedom of speech. Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin) We don't really know anything about Kagan, but I'm looking forward to hearing more. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) There's a lot we need to find out about Kagan, particularly whether she is going to rape the Constitution. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) Frankly, the current court could use some people who don't know anything about being a judge. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) Worryingly, Kagan made a lot of political decisions when she was a political adviser to President Clinton. Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin) As a judge, Kagan must keep in mind the impact her decisions will have, so that she doesn't make any awful decisions that ruin the country like Citizens United did. Jon Kyl (R-Arizona) President Obama wants judges who ignore the law in order to enact his progressive agenda, which is probably what Kagan will do. Arlen Specter (D-Pennsylvania) The Supreme Court has been pretty lazy and should be deciding on a lot more cases. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) Kagan is very smart, has done some things as solicitor general that I like, and has a knowledge of terror law that could help the court immensely. Chuck Schumer (D-New York) Kagan has been so open already and is so qualified, we can probably wrap this up pretty quickly. Jon Cornyn (R-Texas) There are two types of judges traditionalists who follow the Constitution and activists who make up rights and Kagan will have to prove that she's not the latter. Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) Sometimes "activists" are conservative judges, so let's not make sweeping statements about "activism." Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) Kagan should try to unite all of America during these confirmation hearings with her honesty and openness. Ben Cardin (D-Maryland) The court must protect people from abuses of power. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island) Kagan is probably going to be confirmed, and when once she is, she should not become a slave to the special interests. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota) The court needs a real person who can bring real remedies to other real people with real problems. Ted Kaufman (D-Delaware) I also do not want Kagan to be an activist, corporate-friendly judge. Al Franken (D-Minnesota) The current court is full of activist conservative judges, like Clarence Thomas, who votes to overturns a law about every eight seconds. Australia's youth minister, Kate Ellis, came up with a plan to reward fashion magazines and designers who cast healthy models and reject overzealous, unrealistic retouching. The new guidelines for winning this "tick of approval":
According to the News, a "panel of health and academic experts" will work over the next six months to come up with guidelines fashion magazines and designers have to meet to win the symbol of approval. Ellis said, "The symbol is a win for consumers. It will empower consumers to tell the fashion, beauty, media and modelling industries what they want and provide greater choice." However, this isn't a law, these are choices designers and fashion magazines may choose — or not choose — to make. And the symbol doesn't assert that a brand or magazine is fashionable. So it's unclear how great an effect this kind of system will have on the industry, but judging by most magazines and runway shows, thin is still pretty damn in, despite the number of people in this world who continue to disapprove of it. He’s also #1 on my poll for “Things I would like to simultaneously raise as my own/Eat for breakfast.” So once again, thanks England, for seeing a small pair of boots on a bear doll and thinking “I wonder if those would fit my pet pig” and then actually putting them on your pet pig. Brown wept, sobbed, gnashed, collapsed, fist-waved, and collapsed his way through “Man in the Mirror,” so much so that he was only able to spit out about 4 percent of the lyrics. The result was two-fold: On the one hand, the performance sounded like a drunk girl at a karaoke bar too wasted to figure out what the lyrics are, but without all that fun “People in Z. Cavaricci’s Falling in Love” footage we’ve all grown so accustomed to. And on the other hand, it was a supremely accurate rendition of my own self watching Beaches on the WE Channel Saturday night. Though we’re still not sure who’s predicament is sadder. (Mine.) But the controversy surrounding Brown’s histrionics is one delightfully internet ready, with folks on Twitter decrying Brown’s phoniness vs. people who love lady-beaters. Take a look at some of the “highlights” from his performance and weigh in: Was Chris Brown really so overcome with emotion for a man he never met that he couldn’t even spit out 5 words in a row?
