Genelia D'Souza and KWAN, the agency that represents her within the endorsement space have added another feather to their caps. The CNBC Awaaz Consumer Awards, the most definitive consumer preference awards, have awarded Genelia as the 'Brand Ambassador of the Year - 2010' and KWAN for being successful image builders and managers in their 6th edition held yesterday.
Genelia D'Souza proudly succeeds Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar etc. who have been previously awarded in 2009 and 2008 respectively as the people behind the spectacular brands that have reached out to their consumers and managed to make a mark in one of the world's most sought-after markets. Sameera Reddy is quick. So quick that in her eight year's as an actor in the Indian Film Industry, she has got twenty films to her credit, and still counting. What's more, Reddy didn't think twice before signing on for Red Alert. "Laxmi is a great character" she says. I recall my first meeting with her in Mumbai for 'On a Date with Sameera Reddy' when we met at Candies in Bandra. At first glance, Sameera, elegant but dressed down in tight jeans and a pink top, seems to have little in common with tousled, tell-it-like-it-is, in-your-face Laxmi. That's what I gauge would be her persona in Red Alert. Here she is, once again gracing the screen with messy hair, no makeup, and a saree, and still looking like a total babe. Beneath her polite veneer, Sam, as we all love to call her, displays a disarming lack of pretence. Bollywood primps and perks are not her thing. She may be a movie star, but she is Sam off the sets. And that's exactly how Sameera wants it. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent chats up with the alert Sameera Reddy who is in fierce competition with herself in the film that's going to get her the critical acclaim she is so looking forward to. Didn't we say that Reddy the movie star is different from Reddy the actor?
Red Alert - The real acting
I think Kalpurush is what gave me the start to what people term 'real acting'. It was a Bengali film I did a couple of years ago. It also won the National Award. So whenever I get an offer like this, I try it out. Red Alert gave me that chance once again and then Nagesh Kukunoor is giving me a chance to act in his next film too. So yes, I am driven by stronger roles now because I feel this is my learning curve to critical acclaim.
Inspiration
Seema Biswas completely inspired me on the sets of Red Alert. What an actress she is. Seema comes from the league of extremely marinated actors who dip themselves in characters forgetting who they are, and the strength with which she drives her part helped me a lot.
Naxalite movement
When I started off, I didn't know much about the movement at all. I realised that I am a pretty girl of Mumbai and didn't read much about what really goes inside the country. I was really wrong, and I got to know it all when Anant Mahadevan came down to narrate me the film. He told me the plight of the farmers and more. That was one of the biggest tings we discussed.
Character
I play the role of Laxmi in the film. My character gets raped and is kept in the police station. That's when the naxals attack the police station. She is a simple girl. The system (police) that had to protect her violated her. The naxalites saw that and took her in their gang. She is groomed to become a naxalite. There is a story behind everything. There are things that drive you to do something. Red Alert tries to tell us that there is a reason to why people take up arms and become naxalites.

Research
I've not bothered watching Ayesha Dharker's Terrorist or Bandit Queen. I have noticed that when I do my research, I may pick up a few things from other actors that I don't want. I go with my gut instinct because I am very instinctive. I honestly do not try to research with movies but the real life stuff. Like trying to read a lot of newspapers, etc.

Red Alert - The underdog.
Why Raajneeti worked was a lot to do with its great ensemble cast. It was larger than life and had to do well in the acting department. Success today depends on a lot of buzz you create. I definitely feel that the masses are changing and the multiplexes have given a new lease of life. Red Alert is an underdog and you never know when it suddenly rises to greatness.
Football / Wimbledon
We all know what's going on in the world of football. FIFA has become like our films. You never know which team is going to come on the top and win the World Cup. I was supposed to go to South Africa for the finals but I am not able to go due to the promotions of two of my films which are releasing back to back. One is a Malayalam film with Mohanlal and after that Red Alert. My sister is going to occupy my seat. But my unprecedented support goes to Argentina as I want them to win the World Cup. I saw the French Open live a month ago. I was in Paris. I was in the Rolland Garros watching Nadal in flesh. It was a great experience to see the Spaniard in full form. For those who think Katrina has severed all relations with Salman Khan and his family, there is news. Recently she arranged a show of her latest hit Raajneeti for Salman's dad, the renowned scriptwriter Salim Khan and the entire family...Minus Salman who maintains his clean slate vis-à-vis Katrina's work.
He has not seen a single film of hers.
After tweeting to the entire world that he would definitely like to see Raajneeti and raising Katrina's hopes that he'd finally watch one of her films, Salman stayed away from the special screening of Raajneeti while the rest of the family saw and enjoyed the film.
Director Prakash Jha confirms that Salim saw the film in a show arranged by Katrina. "Salim Saab was full of praise for Raajneeti. He specially praised the dialogues which coming from him was a great compliment. Earlier Salim Saab had said what he and Javed Akhtar Saab wrote as a cop's story in Zanjeer was nowhere near the authenticity of my cop's story in Gangaajal. He's a generous man."
Salim Khan's generosity was also evident in the call he made to Katrina praising her mature and restrained performance in Raajneeti.
About arranging the special show of Raajneeti for Salman's family after they've apparently split, Katrina sighed, "I wish all these speculations on my personal life would end. Salman's family is the only family I've known in Mumbai. That can't change. Of course I wanted Salim Saab to see Raajneeti for very special reason. He has seen my struggle in Bollywood from the start. Nagesh Kukunoor will heave a sigh of relief. And so will John Abraham. Their first outing together, AASHAYEIN, which was completed a few years ago but didn't make it to theatres for reasons best known to its makers, will finally release on 13th August. Both Nagesh and John are gung ho about AASHAYEIN and are keenly awaiting its release. In fact, Nagesh had gone on record to state that AASHAYEIN was amongst his most accomplished works, with John delivering his career-best performance in the film.

Well, that's the speculation in the industry. "I wish to clarify that HEROINE is not based on the life and times of Marilyn Monroe or any actress. It's a contemporary film. Also, neither have I approached Saif for any role in the film, nor is there any role in my film that could remind anyone of a legendary politician," Madhur states. He continues, "Of course, there are several characters in the film, but the story revolves around Kareena. I've yet to finalize the balance star cast."
While Madhur begins filming HEROINE in October, the prolific film-maker will start shooting DIL TO BACHCHA HAI JI with Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Omi Vaidya and Shruti Haasan in July. Akshay Kumar and debutante Trisha, shot a song in the famous Ram Mandir in Phaltan, Satara for Priyadarshan's Khatta Meetha.
The song 'Sajde Kiye', is a lovely romantic track. According to Trisha, the song is a beautifully written love duet that is shot in a very different way. What also adds to the beauty of the song is the pious location.
In addition, the cast and crew earnestly abided by all the rules of the temple. There was no footwear allowed, the clothes were decent and shor sharaaba was kept to a minimum.

After Blue last year, you would think Akshay Kumar would stay away from Diwali releases. In fact that is what Vipul had presumed and was in fact planning an Eid or a post-Diwali release for Action Replayy starring Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
But a call from Akshay from London changed Vipul's plans. Akshay who is a co-producer on Action Replayy asked Vipul to opt for a Diwali release, although a big franchise film Golmaal 3 was already scheduled.
Says Vipul, "You'd be surprised to know in spite of Blue last Diwali, Akshay wants us to go ahead with Action Replayy this Diwali. Let's not forget, Akshay's Garam Masala had also released for Diwali and it was a big hit."
Apparently, Akshay wants a Diwali release because he feels a fun frothy goofy film like Action Replayy has great festive value, and bad omen be damned.
Says Vipul, "We're hoping for both Golmaal 3 and Action Replay to do well. If only one film can succeed, may the best one win. And may we be the best."
Vipul is also planning collaboration with Tamil super-director Gautham Menon who directed the original Tamil version of Kaakha Kaakha starring Suriya that Vipul is now remaking with John Abraham with Nishikant Kamat as director.
Throughout the re-scripting of the original Tamil into Hindi, Vipul kept Gautham in the loop about the changes.
"We've made drastic changes in the script from the original. Kaakha Kaakha is a seven-year old film. The cop played by John will be completely different from Surya in the original. The police force and the law and order situation have changed. We've altered the screenplay completely. While buying the remake rights, we had stipulated that the changes would be made. So legally or ethically we did not need to keep Gautham in the loop."
However, Vipul felt it was only decent to inform the original maker about the changes. During these telephonic conversations between Vipul Shah and Gautham Menon, Vipul realized that Gautham was just the kind of director who could bring a refreshing new idiom to the commercial Hindi cinema.

This can happen only in the world of Bollywood. And for the trivia happy, this one will certainly go down as the mother of all, at least in the current year.
Last week the readers were informed about how an altogether new song had been composed for Sajid Nadiadwala's Anjaana Anjaani and was all set for picturisation today i.e. Monday. But wait, there is a lot more than meets the eye.
Today also happens to be Vishal Dadlani's (of Vishal-Shekhar duo) birthday. 'Well, happy birthday Vishal', one immediately wishes and also adds in the same breath, 'So how does this contribute to any trivia?'
Well, in a lot of ways actually! Here we go:
1. This is not the first time that a song with Vishal-Shekhar as the composers has been shot on Vishal's birthday. Two years ago, a song from Bachna Ae Haseeno was also shot on the same day.
2. Both Bachna Ae Haseeno and Anjaana Anjaani have music by Vishal-Shekhar, Siddharth Anand as the director and Ranbir Kapoor as the leading man.
3. The song shot in both instances was the title track
4. Both are club songs
5. During the song composition for Bachna Ae Haseeno, Vishal-Shekhar were composing for Tarun Mansukhani's Dostana. During the song composition for Anjaana Anjaani, Vishal-Shekhar were composing for Dostana 2.
6. In both instances, Tarun readily allowed his dates with Vishal-Shekhar to be utilised for Siddharth's film.
7. Both the tracks feature relatively new singers. While Bachna Ae Haseeno track saw Sumeet Kumar, son of Kishore Kumar coming behind the mike, Anjaana Anjaani has newbie Nikhil D'Souza pairing up with Monali Thakur (of 'Zara Zara Touch Me' fame).
8. Just as was the case with Bachna Ae Haseeno title track, even Anjaana Anjaani title track was the last to be recorded by Vishal-Shekhar. Naturally, in both the instances, these have turned out to be the last song from the film shot by Siddharth Anand.
One wonders whether this trivia could indeed by titled as 'Ajab Vishal Ke Ghazab Birthday Ki Kahani'?

Sanjay, how is life treating you?
Couldn't be better. I'm happy with my marriage and career and the handful of friends I can trust. I can count them on the hands of my fingers.
What do you think about your mentor Amar Singh turning into a movie actor?
He's pretty good at whatever he does. He's quite a movie buff.
Looking back do you think going into politics was a mistake?
I didn't go into politics. I did what I had to help Amar Singhji. At that I didn't realize it was the wrong party (the Samajwadi). Neither did he. Now he's started his non-political organization. I wasn't there for politics. I was there for Amar Singhji. And I'll continue to be there in whatever capacity I am required. Helping people has always been my first priority. Even when I campaigned during elections for the Samajwadi Party, I was actually looking after Amar Singhji who was very well. I was more concerned about him than the party while he was slogging through his illness for the party. Now see what the party has done for him. I'm glad he has dissociated himself from it.

You too have been through your share of betrayals?
That's what I told Amar Singhji when his party let him down. I told him it was god-sent opportunity to know who his real friends are.
Your loyalty to Amar Singh remains unchanged?
He's more family than a politician for me. He has always been there for me during bad times. I respect him for that. I'll stand by him unconditionally. He's much misunderstood and even his political party misused him.
I think my dad he was more a social worker. Politics was just a platform to achieve his means
How do you meet him that often now?
He doesn't come to Mumbai that often. But I visit him in Delhi and Lucknow.
Your dad Sunil Dutt was a fabulous politician. Do you think politics is your cup of tea?
As I said I did it for my brother. Otherwise politics is not my scene. Even my father was not really a politician. He wanted to help bring about a change. When he took up an agenda he saw it to the end. He promoted hockey is such a big way. I think he was more a social worker. Politics was just a platform to achieve his meansâ¦Maybe you're right. I went into politics for emotional rather than practical reasons.

Your career suffered because of politics?
Not at all. All The Best did well. It came after I joined hands with Amar Singhji. Blue went over-budget.
Why don't you do a full-on action film?
I think the action film is going through a crisis in this country. We've to reach the level of the action seen in Iron Man and Avatar. Sadly our cinema doesn't have an international market. I wonder why. If Chinese and Korean cinema can have a global market, why can't we? I think we need to change the way we make our films for the global marketing.
You're going into film production now?
Yes we got delayed because of the recession. I don't want to make a small-budget film. My first film has to be a lavish spectacle. I think my film with David Dhawan would be the first Sanjay Dutt Production. But first let the industry recover. In my 30-year career I've never seen such bad times in the industry.
Are you happy?
Very happy. It has been a 30-year inning. Things have changed so much in the industry. I'm lucky to have survived.
On a personal level?
Oh I am very happy. My wife Maanyata really takes good care of me.
And your relationship with your sisters?
Perfect. Every family has its ups and downs. Our differences came into the news because we're the Dutts. Every household has its fights. But we can never be apart. We're the same blood.
Anything that you really want?
All I want is my freedom. I just need that one line from the law, 'You're free'. Every day I pray to be free. Otherwise everything is fine, I've started working out. And I am back in shape.
