Check Out: Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone in Lafangey Parindey

Lafangey Parindey Yash Raj Films is ready with its latest flick Lafangey Parindey starring Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. While the film directed by Pradeep Sarkar is set to release on August 20, we bring you a sneak peek at the two characters you are going to meet while watching the film. Neil plays 'One Shot Nandu' and as can be seen from the pic, he is wild and born to fight. The actor seems to have really beefed up his physique for this particular character and probably features his as a fighter. As for Deepika, she plays 'Pinky Palkar' who is blind yet born to fly. She looks super-fit posing with a pair of roller-skates. Both the actors have extremely challenging roles to play in this love story set in the gritty streets of Mumbai. One will have to wait and watch if this jodi is able to strike gold at the Box Office this August.

Prakash Jha heads to Ireland film festival while other filmmakers boycott it

Prakash Jha There's much secret consternation and annoyance among prominent filmmakers in Bollywood over the selection of Prakash Jha's two films Raajneeti and Gangaajal as the opening and closing films of the brand new Indian Film Festival in Ireland. Other filmmakers whose works have been selected include Jahnu Barua (Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara), Nagesh Kukunoor (Dor), Navdeep Singh (Manorana Six Under), J P Dutta (Umrao Jaan), Paresh Mokashi (Harishchandrachi Factory), Nikhil Advani (Kal Ho Na Ho), Balki (Paa), Vishal Bhardwaj (The Blue Umbrella). Most of the above have confirmed that they would not be attending the Bollywood festival in Dublin. And one of them on condition of anonymity expressed surprise and dismay at the prominence given to Jha's cinema. "I agree he has made hard-hitting political films. But you can't call Gangaajal or Raajneeti representative of Indian cinema. Their politics makes them very culture-specific works." However, Prakash Jha basking in the super-success of his film dismisses such talk as self-defeating. "It's this crab mentality that keeps Indian cinema from making a global impact. Some people almost seem to be mourning because Raajneeti has done so well!" Prakash Jha's Raajneeti has given him the kind of commercial clout he had never dreamt of. Right after the Raajneeti celebration on June 23, he now heads for two very distinguished European retrospectives of his films in Ireland and London. The first Indian Film Festival in Dublin which starts on June 25 has Jha specially kicked. "It's the first time that such a festival is being held in Ireland. They're screening Raajneeti as the Festival's opening film and my Gangaajal as the closing film." Films that are bracketed between Jha's Raajneeti and Gangaajal at the Indian Film in Dublin include the two versions of Devdas by Bimal Roy and Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the two versions of Umrao Jaan by Muzaffar Ali and J.P Dutta. Unfazed by the muted protests about the priority given to his cinema in Ireland, Prakash heads for Dublin and straight after will go to London for a 5-film retrospective at the Nehru Centre from June 30. Glowing with his new status as a commercially viable director Paraksh Jha says, "The Nehru Centre was to screen only 3 of my films Mrityudand, Apaharan, Gangaajal. But after Raajneeti they insisted we include it in the retro." We wonder why.

Would Aamir rethink about Peepli Live marketing and promotion?

Aamir Khan It is a known fact that Aamir Khan is a master strategist. Another fact which is known to one and all (especially the ones associated with Aamir's films) is that once on board; you are totally attached to the film. Personal lives are forgotten, other projects take backstage and interaction with the outside world, especially on the records, is not quite encouraged. This is expected from big as well as small movies and it can be called as nothing but sacrilege if there was any such act committed, on or off the sets, which could have harmed the prospects of a film. Especially so when the film was being produced by Aamir Khan himself. However, one wonders if a certain Raghveer Yadav was cognizant of this fact when an ugly story from his past was unearthed very recently. One of the two principal characters (other than first timer Omkar Das Manikpuri) in Aamir's production Peepli Live, Raghuvir Yadav found himself in a red spot earlier this month when he was arrested by Mumbai Police in response to a complained filed by his ex-wife Purnima. To go a little back into history, Raghuveer Yadav was once married (1988) and then divorced (1996) from Purnima. He was required to pay a certain amount as alimony per month. However, when that didn't quite happen for years in succession, Purnima launched a complaint against him. Instead of paying the required amount, Raghveer went into hiding late last year and was absconding ever since then. After months of evading arrest, he was finally spotted in a train by Purnima and was arrested by the cops after she made a quick call to them. "This is indeed an embarrassing situation for the team of Peepli Live, especially Aamir Khan since he has maintained a clean record when it comes to people associated with his films", says an industry observer, "While his films are meant for family audiences, he has rightly dissuaded actors from indulging into anything that could be counter productive to his film. He gives his heart, body and soul to his films and the last thing he would want is his lead actor to be involved in a messy legal situation. That is totally unpardonable." In addition, the film has been in news for other reasons as well. As per reports, there were some issues from Censors as well since they wanted to grant an 'A' certificate due to the usage of objectionable language in the film. The choice before Aamir was to either delete the sequences where unsavoury language was on display or accept the 'A' certificate. Being someone who has never allowed commercial aspects to rule over the authenticity factor, Aamir chose to go with the 'A' certificate, hence resulting in restricted audience for the film. As things stand today, Raghuveer, who has worked with Aamir earlier in films like 1947 Earth and Lagaan, has been released by the police after he managed to cough up half the alimony amount to his wife. Still, the sword of arrest continues to be hanging over his neck since he is required to pay the remaining half this month itself before cops arrive at his door step all over again. When contacted, Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures (which is co-producing the film along with Aamir Khan) chose to keep mum on the entire imbroglio surrounding Raghuveer Yadav's arrest. He says, "I wouldn't like to comment on that as of now. This is something that happened just a few days ago and it would be too early to say anything around whether that would affect the marketing and promotional plans for Peepli Live", he says. With just 50 odd days remaining for the film's promotion (Peepli Live is all set for 13th August release), one wonders whether there is some rethinking that Aamir Khan would be getting into from the marketing and promotional perspective.

Saif Ali Khan loses 9 kilos for his new look in Agent Vinod

Saif Ali Khan Saif avoided cameras and paparazzi pictures until his departure to Morocco this week to avoid giving away his Agent Vinod look. But man proposes, Aamir disposes. Aamir insisted that Saif make it to the party at his home last weekend, thereby blowing the whistle on Saif's carefully-concealed look. On the eve of his departure to Morocco for the shooting of his second home production Agent Vinod, Saif Ali Khan completely revamped his look and went into hiding until he left the country. According to close friends, Saif was apprehensive about the exposure of his special makeover in as Agent Vinod. He has lost oodles of weight changed his hairstyle and redesigned his entire body language to play a lean spy. A friend of Saif says, "If Shahid Kapoor in his dad's film Mausam has modelled his look on Tom Cruise in Top Gun, Saif's role model for Agent Vinod is Matt Damon in Bourne Identity." A special hair styling done by Aalim Hakim clipping off the long tresses that Saif was lately seen sporting had been planned for six months. Saif wanted to delay the haircut until the final moment before his departure from Morocco. Besides that, Saif has been working out frantically and toning his muscles to look sinewy agile and panther- like. While Saif remained inaccessible for any questions on his makeover for Agent Vinod (he probably thinks even talking about it would invite copycats) his ladylove Kareena Kapoor willingly and proudly spills the beans. "Saif has never looked cooler. He has lost 9 kilos in three months. He has all toned and rippling muscles. He was with long hair for so long that I had forgotten how dashing he looks in cropped hair. Saif has got his hair cropped really short, that's all I can tell you about his Agent Vinod look. He got it done a couple of days back. Since then he was reluctant to step out of his house. " So frightened was Saif of revealing his new look that he refused to show it even to his own parents. Only Kareena had the privilege of seeing Saif's makeover avatar. Until Aamir's party. "And that too only because I'll see how he looks anyway because I'm his co-star," laughs Kareena, adding that her look in Agent Vinod would also be unique. "Akki Narula is doing my look for Agent Vinod. I don't think I've ever looked the way I would in Agent Vinod. As for Saif, he looks like a Hollywood star for the film. I can't take my eyes off him."

"Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai is true Tarantino style film" - Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai Prachi Desai is so down-to-earth it is almost impossible to believe she is only in her early twenties. She actually looks even younger, which may be something to do with her porcelain skin, but she seems to have a maturity far beyond her years, because her debut film Rock On proved it. And then you think - What a life this girl has got! Right when she was on the top of her game in the television medium, she quit to join films. That was once upon a time. Now, the results are pretty evident. In contrast to the slickness of the setting of her latest offering, Prachi is looking decidedly unflashy in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. But that works and how. Apart from a thin lick of eyeliner and mascara, her face is devoid of make-up, which only serves to emphasise her beauty: striking black, wide-set eyes, perfect teeth, and a regular smile which makes your heart melt. Drape her with the most expensive Giorgio Armani gown and yet she will look de-glam. Because Desai is that delicate flower. You can't dress it up. It'll just look de-glam yet beautiful and then lingers her mystic aroma whenever she appears. This season, get ready to experience just that. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent gets into the mood retro and talks to the perfumed actress Prachi Desai about her first retro film, her fragrant beauty, her serial kissing co-star Emraan Hashmi, the ever experienced Ajay Devgn and her two golden word in which she describes Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai - 'True Tarantino' style. Critic's appreciation I'm so happy that after Rock On, the critics have seen a better side of me in acting. Then came Life Partner and now my most challenging role I've ever done in Once Upon...I am eagerly awaiting the critics appreciation and my audiences too for my role and my film. I'm very confident that it'll do well. De-glam / Make Up I hope you're genuinely informing me the fact that people like me without make up. It's farcical to know that my audiences like me in the de-glam role (laughs). I personally do not like putting on a lot of make-up. I hate it. But my profession demands it (laughs). It's just that in films like Once Upon...you are lucky to be blessed with a de-glam image and less make up. I've got very dark eyes for the period look in the film. Prachi Desai Challenging Rock On stays as my best ever role because it was my first ever. Rock On is special. Once Upon... is on that special phase in my life. I hope to make my stand more concrete after the release of this film and hope I'm taken seriously as an actress in our industry. Deliberate Absolutely yes. It's a deliberate approach on my part not to sign too many films. Rock On happened with no plans and I'm too fortunate. Luckily, it worked too. So I had to give that break to my viewers in general. Viewers of television have seen enough of me every day in the daily soaps. If they saw me every month in films, they'll be disconnected with me (laughs). It somehow became tough for the people to perceive me differently. I need to give them a break more than I take one (laughs). Considering the fact that I do not come from a film family but television makes it even more deliberate. But all this doesn't make me the desperate one too (laughs). Women in gangster flicks Women are as important as guns are for these gangsters. In the film's context, they (women) are the only other factors who are so dear to them. This film would not have taken off without the presence of these women. The love story is an integral part of this film. Dimple Kapadia Oh God! Till date I've never met her. I would love to meet Dimpleji one day. Luckily, I've not even got a phone call from her which I did expect after doing an impression of Bobby. I was the worried one during the shoot and till today. I don't know if I've actually done justice by wearing the costume of Bobby. Prachi Desai Emraan Hashmi You know what? I always had this feeling after doing the film that the conflict that arises in the story is so much real that Emraan hasn't played a character like this before in any of his films. It's not only his looks but also his attitude. He speaks like the people in the 70's and 80's did. There are too many grey shades to him in this film and he does it so convincingly. Convincingly because his part in the film is of a guy who is hundred percent convinced about what he does. This will be one film for which he will get lots of accolades and acknowledgements and his kissing image will soon diminish (laughs). Ajay Devgn I've grown up watching Ajay's film. He is a phenomenal actor and we saw that in RGV's Company. He is back to business here. It's grim and tough. Ajay and Milan go back a long way since their first film together Kachche Dhaage. But as everyone knows, Ajay is the biggest prankster ever. It's strange but he comes across as a shy guy. Company didn't have the retro touch to it. I think it could've worked better if it had. This one is going to make him stand out more I feel. Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai If I had to sum up the film in two words, it'd be 'Pukka Tarantino' stuff (laughs). That's what many have said after watching the film. I hope it stands true.

Salman Khan, Karan Johar claim to be 'Good Looking Ullu Da Pattha'

Ali Zafar, the singer who became teen rage in Pakistan with his pop numbers like 'Channo', 'Rangeen', 'Chal Dil Mere' etc, seems to have won someone special's heart as well. And this someone is none other than Salman Khan. On Ali's visit to India for the promotion of his debut film Tere Bin Laden, he was invited to Sallu bhai's place along with his film's producer Pooja Shetty. Sallu bhai saw the film and was full of praises for the young actor and when Pooja showed Sallu the promotional t-shirt for the film that read, "Good Looking Ullu Di Patthi", Salman took off the one he was already wearing (no surprise there) and wore the one Pooja had showed him. Following the craze was our very own Karan Johar. He too posted a picture of himself wearing the promotional Tee on a popular networking website. Seems like the film has become something of a rage in the film fraternity, wonder who's going next?

Check Out: Emraan Hashmi and Gulshan Grover's look in Crook

The promos of his forthcoming film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai seem to be picking up with each passing day but Emraan Hashmi has already begun work on his next film Crook: Its Good To Be Bad. Directed by Mohit Suri, this is yet another product from the famous Bhatt camp which has given Emraan some of the biggest hits of his career. Mahesh Bhatt is pretty gung-ho about this project that talks about racial discrimination being meted out to Indians in Australia. Major portions of the film have been shot in Melbourne, Australia. Bhatt saab even posted a pic of Emraan from one of the key moments in the film on Twitter. Must say that Emraan is indeed looking quite cool in a new hair do. A few moments later Bhatt posted another pic this time of his close friend Gulshan Grover, "My friend Gulshan Grover is here for a costume trial", read Bhatt's tweet. Well, even though the film is a few months away from release, must say the makers have already started promoting the film big time.

Madhur Bhandarkar on Heroine and Raajneeti success party

Madhur Bhandarkar It was a re-union of sorts for Madhur Bhandarkar last night at the success party of Raajneeti. Yes, the acclaimed National Award winning director was present at the party and he may well be remembering his good old days with UTV gang while they celebrated the success of Fashion, a year and a half back. Back from the super collaboration with UTV, Madhur signals, "Yes, I am once again joining hands with UTV for my next feature called Heroine. It's a mammoth task but we're sure we can pull it off just like we did with Fashion." On speaking about last night's party, Madhur clarifies, "It was great to meet up with old friends Vikas Bahl and Siddharth Roy Kapoor. They were enjoying their latest success as I was busy chatting with Ranbir Kapoor and Ronnie Screwvala. Raajneeti proved a vital point in our film industry - Never take any story too lightly. Never take any plot and the backdrop (politics) for granted. A simple well crafted story is all that takes to make a decent cinema which audiences appreciate. Raajneeti got the above in place and the results are evident."

Amitabh Bachchan on critics, criticism, Abhishek and Raavan

Amitabh Bachchan speaks to Subhash K Jha on critics, criticism, Abhishek and Raavan. You have again started signing films after a long gap. Please describe the projects you've taken on. Yes, I had not signed a film for a while. There had been an accumulation of 5 films one after the other, due to the multiplex strike. All of them have released, barring one. I have signed up with Raj Kumar Santoshi, and there are projects on the verge of finalization with Pritish Nandy Communication, Prakash Jha, Puri Jagannath, Abbas Mustan and of course R. Balki. You were in Paris recently for a recital of your father's poetry. How was that experience. Yes, I was in Paris to do a recital at the prestigious Theatre des Champs-Elysee, of my father's poems. It was a first for me and a first for the Theatre too. Almost 70% French audience, subtitled facilities inside the theatre and a most remarkable evening for me. A venue that has played host to greats in philharmonic orchestra, world renowned ballet and opera to be hosting Hindi poetry recitation was unique. Some of my fans came in from New York and London, Germany and Spain to witness this occasion. I thought it was most endearing on their part. For me it was a privilege to be able to introduce my Father's works to a foreign and alien audience. Just such an honour. My Father would never have dreamt that this would happen someday, but it did happen and it filled me with a lot of pride. It was a privilege to be able to introduce my Father's works to a foreign and alien audience In London you had dinner with Aamir Khan. Any projects together coming up? Why would you assume that when two actors meet and have dinner together that they would be doing a project together!! Aamir was in the same hotel as me, he called, we met and went out for a meal. Just another social evening, nothing more. Though working with Aamir would be a joy, particularly if he were to direct the film. Working with Aamir would be a joy, particularly if he were to direct the film Lately, Mr Amar Singh has had a lot of comments to make on your family. Your comments? Amar Singh ji is family and any matter on him becomes personal. I would not comment on personal matters. Does the savage criticism Abhishek's solo films Delhi 6 and now Raavan strike you as being perhaps a little unjust to him? No not all. People pay to go and see a film if they do not like something they have the liberty to criticize it. I cannot understand why you particularly mention 'solo'. None of my successful films Deewar, Trishul, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Sholay, etc. were solo. Abhishek too has had his share of solo successes and non-successes. Some work some do not. Its filmmaking. Happens the world over. One accepts the public verdict learns from it and tries again. His recent hit was Paa, where you also starred. Any more projects featuring you and Abhishek? I hope there will be. There are a few talks in progress, when they are ready we can talk about it. Do you think the subversion of the Ramayan especially towards the end was justified? Firstly we need to understand that the film is not Ramayan. It is Mani's concept of a story with elements of the epic in his own interpretation of it. This is the director's take on a story. We cannot comment whether it is justifiable or not. It is best left to his sensibilities as a creative artist. Comment yes, justify perhaps not. Raavan is not Ramayan; it is Mani's concept with elements of the epic in his interpretation I remember your vocal and emphatic support of Mani Ratnam's Guru. Do you feel as strongly about Raavan? Yes, but in different ways. Guru was straight storytelling and Mani's brilliance in its presentation was very clear to observe. Raavan is asking me to study and think and analyse and probe. It's taken a while to comprehend, so it is not immediate. It is driving me to intellectualize, something that most viewers are not prepared for when they go to see a film. Mani's technique and approach may already be the subject of discussion and inspiration or imitation even as I write. But then that is a personal and individual view. It cannot be generalised. Raavan is asking me to study and think and analyse and probe. It's taken a while to comprehend Apparently you've been reminding Mani Ratnam and Abhishek that they've worked thrice together and that it's about time you got a chance to work with him. Is a film with Mani around the corner? I wish it was true, but there is no such offering. Could you put in a word for me?? I can't help asking...you're tweeting and blogging. Do these means of communication make the press redundant for you? How could you possibly ask this question at the end of this most exhaustive response of mine to the press!! No the media will never be redundant. Yes I Blog and Tweet and Vog and soon shall also video blog, but the press shall always have its presence and importance. For me these mediums are a wonderful opportunity to connect with my fans and well wishers independently and instantly. The internet is becoming a vast medium for the future. Most of the requests for interviews have also reduced because the media picks up all the daily news from our blogs and tweets. Look at the vast amount of information that these mediums provide on individuals you would perhaps have never had the opportunity to interact with. It should be allowed to grow and prosper its use and misuse notwithstanding. Tweeting...what has been the most memorable experience in that sphere of activity? To have had the great opportunity of a chat with Lata ji!!

Shruti to star opposite Emraan in Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji

Shruti Haasan Madhur Bhandarkar is all set to perform Operation Salvage on Shruti Haasan's career. In what is quite clearly a manoeuvre to give the mighty Kamal Haasan's daughter the commercial boost that Soham Shah's Luck could not, Madhur Bhandarkar has signed her to play a key role in his first comedy Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji. Self-admittedly a huge fan of Kamal Haasan, Madhur says, "Shruti has met me some months ago expressing the desire to work with me. I though she would suit part opposite Emraan Hashmi perfectly." Though not willing to admit that Kamal Haasan had any hand in Shruti's presence in the comedy, Bhandarkar does admit that he's a great fan of the actor. "Kamalji is a legend. And I can't say the thought of working with his daughter did not pass through my mind. However, I must add that Shruti is a very bright, pretty and talented girl. She's bound to go far." Shruti's career had come to a standstill with a film ironically called Luck. Maybe it will change, not that the daughter's ball of destiny is now in papa Kamal Haasan's court.

Ranbir-Priyanka all set to shoot for added song in Anjaana Anjaani

Ranbir-Priyanka Exactly three months remain for the release of Anjaana Anjaani and the Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra starrer is catching on some serious heat. Even though director Siddharth Anand has completed the entire shooting of the film and is currently neck deep into post production, he is aiming for that final thrust to make the film and its music turn out to be something special. Result? A brand new song was composed for Anjaana Anjaani early this week, the shooting for which would take place coming Monday. "I was looking for that special number which would turn out to be one of the highlight numbers in the album", informs Siddharth Anand who has fast put together the entire plan in place to get the song up and running, "I was constantly having conversations with Vishal and Shekhar and the result was this fantastic club track." Though a title song has already been composed and picturised for Anjaana Anjaani, this club track too would be an added title song. However, it hasn't been created for only promotional means and would actually feature as a part of the film. "Space for this song was always there in the film. It was never an after thought. I wanted a track that would have an edge to it and was willing to wait before Vishal-Shekhar came up with something extraordinary", adds Siddharth who is working with the composer duo for fourth film in a row after Salaam Namaste, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Bachna Ae Haseeno. "Ask us", laughs Vishal who along with Shekhar had to present a barrage of tunes to Siddharth before he consented to the one he loved most, "Thank God for that. He made us slog and the results are there to be seen. It was actually fun to make this song. The earlier title track was soft and melodious while this one is a good club track." No wonder, Anjaana Anjaani is fast turning out to be the musical to look out for. While there were six songs already present as the part of the film, the seventh addition in the form of this special title track makes it a full blown musical entertainer. In todays multiplex era when the norm is to have not more than four or five songs in a single film, seven songs sounds like a pretty good deal. "Well, that shouldn't be surprising for anyone actually", reasons Siddharth, "Anjaana Anjaani is a love story and history beckons that any love story is bound to be very strong in music, both qualitatively as well as quantitatively. There is place for all the seven songs in the film and I can't wait to shoot the latest one starting Monday." In spite of the fact that both Ranbir and Priyanka are super busy actors, they were game to shoot for an additional song in the film. Confirms Siddharth, "Yes, they both are quite gung-ho about the song. The song is set in a New York club and we have created a set in Mumbai for that. It sure will turn out to be a major highlight of the film." One wonders though whether producer Sajid Nadiadwala had any second thoughts about the song, considering the fact that an added song means addition to the film's budget. "For the kind of genre that Anjaana Anjaani belongs to, there was no point of having any second thoughts about adding another song", says Sajid Nadiadwala who is currently in London, "I am anyways quite excited about the music here which to me has some of the most fabulous work that a film of mine has boasted of. One more song only makes me feel even more elated. There was no question of even thinking about any added costs."
