Rain in Spain spoils Katrina's 'Raajneeti' party plansKatrina Kaif was supposed to fly down to Mumbai for a day to attend the "Raajneeti" success party on Wednesday from Spain, where she is shooting for Zoya Akhtar's "Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara", but the actress had to drop her plans because of the inclement weather there.Source: Entertainment News | 22 Jun 2010 | 8:52 am Megan Fox wants to play Rainmaker
Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 22 Jun 2010 | 8:01 am Check Out: Kareena's dhamakedaar entry atop moving car in Golmaal 3
When it's a Rohit Shetty film, you can be sure of some high octane action sequences which include the likes of cars blasting, actors standing on top of moving bikes, etc. While his actors are expected to do some heavy-duty action sequences in his films, this time for his latest film Golmaal 3, Rohit Shetty decided to get his actress Kareena Kapoor also to do a dhamakedaar stunt sequence.
Kareena, who was also seen in Rohit's Golmaal Returns, will now be seen making a dramatic entry by standing on the bonnet of a moving car in Golmaal 3 Bebo insisted on performing the daredevil stunt scene herself and ended up doing the scene like a pro. Says a source who was present on the sets, "It was a very difficult scene. Not only did Kareena have to maintain her balance but she also had to get her expressions right. She agreed to do the stunt on the condition that the director, Rohit Shetty, would drive the car himself. Kareena was tied with a harness and had a support but the car was taking turns. It was quite a tough stunt."
So it was Rohit indeed who sat on the driver's seat when Kareena pulled off this amazing stunt. Bebo on her part seems to have had a ball doing this daredevil stunt sequence. Says the gorgeous actress, "I have had an absolutely fantastic time shooting for the film. The entry sequence was planned this way and Rohit explained it to me in detail. When he is around, I have nothing to worry about. In the final analysis, the shot looks amazing."
Well, we are sure fans of Bebo can't wait to watch her in her new daredevil avatar.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 22 Jun 2010 | 7:53 am I don't want to be the next Emraan Hashmi: Prashant Narayanan

However, on the cover page of Exhibit magazine, Zarine is back to current techno age. Exhibit is a magazine that talks about the latest in the world of gadgets and the technology world as well as its viability in the consumer market, and Zarine too talks about the gadgets that have become almost a habit for her as she says "A gadget I can't survive without is my blackberry...its addictive". Wherever Sherlyn Chopra goes and what ever she does creates a storm. Proving this was her recent ban from the micro blogging site Twitter. If what we hear is to be believed then the seductive temptress Sherlyn Chopra has been banned from posting images on Twitter.
This comes after Sherlyn had posted naked images of herself on the site, saying that they were from a photo-shoot she had done. While not too long ago, she tweeted saying, "Where has my pic disappeared!!! This is strange! Can Twitter kindly let me know where my pics are? Is there a censor board on Twitter???" It turned out that the censors for content on Twitter deleted her images and also banned her from posting of images.
Later Sherlyn updated, "Twitter has banned me from uploading pics...My Team is tryin 2 get in touch with Twitter to sort out the matter." Chopra has also suggested that she will quit the social networking website if the problem doesn't get resolved soon.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 22 Jun 2010 | 4:55 am Spotted: Aamir Khan in a new desi look

Katrina Kaif's plans to fly down to Mumbai for a day to celebrate the Raajneeti success on June 23 from Spain where she is shooting for Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara have been dropped.
Apparently, inclement weather has made it impossible for her to be let off for even a day. Setting aside her habitual work-comes-first-party-later attitude, she even requested the film's producers and director to accommodate her absence for less than day.
Says a source close to Katrina, "Since Prakash Jha was very, very keen to have her down to Mumbai for the bash, and had even made all the arrangements for her flight, Katrina was not willing to give up the idea of attending the function. She offered to be back in less than 24 hours. Katrina was willing to fly to Mumbai, attend the Raajneeti bash on Wednesday and fly out quickly the same night to re-join the Dobara team the next morning. But she is not allowed."
The Raajneeti team has a lot to celebrate about. But Prakash Jha wanted no celebration until his lucky mascot Katrina Kaif was available. Unfortunately, Zoya Akhtar's crew has been facing rough weather ever since they arrived in Spain. Apparently, 6 days of shooting had to be cancelled because of heavy rains. And now they need to make up for lost time quickly since their work permits and visas would expire.
Prakash Jha admits that Katrina would be unable to make it to the Raajneeti celebration party on June 23. "They've lost a lot of time because of the rain in Spain. I couldn't dream of having a Raajneeti bash without Katrina. And I had postponed it until her availability. But now it's impossible for Katrina to fly down."
Prakash will now record a video message with Katrina and play it at the party. "So she will be with us in spirit if not in person," he smirks.
Katrina on the other hand tried to sound diplomatic and non-disappointed. "It is a big day. And the success of Raajneeti is very precious to me. But I can't leave the crew in Spain."
She admits there're lots of unscheduled breaks. Katrina has got one of her sister Melissa to join her in Spain to give her company at break time.
Says Katrina, "London is just two hours, so Melissa could join me. Mumbai is in another hemisphere. Flying down is impossible. Please tell Prakashji, Mera party baqi raha."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 22 Jun 2010 | 4:04 am ‘I want the government and the Maoists to see the film’Director Anant Mahadevan has used Maoists’ real dialogue in Red Alert.Source: | 22 Jun 2010 | 3:57 am Mammootty creates anti-drug use awarenessMalayalam superstar Mammootty seems to have a heart of gold. Source: Entertainment - Google News | 22 Jun 2010 | 1:11 am 'No Problem' & 'Knock Out' won't clash on the same day
A majority of producers have realized that it's not right to bring two films of the same actor on the same date. But there have been exceptions in the past. In Diwali last year, two Sanjay Dutt starrers -- BLUE and ALL THE BEST -- opened on the same day. Besides, the clash of three biggies on the same day [BLUE, ALL THE BEST, MAIN AUR MRS. KHANNA] did cut into each other's business, the Diwali week notwithstanding.
Cut to the present! Till last week, the makers of NO PROBLEM and KNOCK OUT, both starring Sanjay Dutt, were adamant on bringing their films on 10th September, but the clash has been averted. While KNOCK OUT will arrive on the scheduled date, NO PROBLEM has been shifted ahead, to 3rd December. Which means, 10th September will see DABANGG and KNOCK OUT vying for public attention, while NO PROBLEM and KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY will clash on 3rd December.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 22 Jun 2010 | 12:56 am The principal star cast of 'Race 2' is finalized
The principal star cast of RACE 2, the sequel to the smash hit RACE, is finally in place. The makers of RACE -- producer Ramesh Taurani and director duo Abbas-Mustan -- have confirmed Anil Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan from the first part, while John Abraham will join the star cast of the sequel. Reportedly, he will be the antagonist in the sequel. In the past, John had enacted negative roles in AETBAAR, DHOOM, ZINDA and NEW YORK and had left a strong impression in each of those roles.
There's talk that Abbas-Mustan are keen to cast arch rivals Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the sequel, but producer Ramesh Taurani denies it. "We haven't finalized the leading ladies yet. It's speculation," he states. Taurani also adds that Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu, who had enacted pivotal parts in RACE, wouldn't feature in the sequel, which is expected to roll early next year.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 22 Jun 2010 | 12:52 am Ravaan earns 530 millions - Oneindia

If an Indian film is compared to a bird, then the wings belong to Vishal-Shekhar. India's most popular music director duo takes any film they're given to an all time high with their indisputable music. So if hell is full of music amateurs, down here is heaven. Because down here is Vishal Shekhar. I call them 'the truth' because their music doesn't lie. From their first ever musical blockbuster Jhankaar Beats to the unique Bluffmaster to the recent most popular I Hate LUV Storys, the duo have enthralled us all since a decade. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel met up with Shekhar Ravjiani to know more about their association with Puneet Malhotra's debut film, rom-com's, Vishal and Shekhar: the singers, the importance of background music, diminishing live orchestration, his partner Vishal Dadlani and an indispensable place which Shekhar has to visit twice a year and without which he cannot create music - London. Over to the man who doesn't create music...he simply weaves it.
Rom-Com
With any genre, whether it's a rom-com or a thriller or a love story, we always try and push the envelope and try and make sure that something new happens. It should excite us more than our audiences. If that happens, audiences are going to love it to the core. A lot of it comes from the director's vision.
Puneet Malhotra
He is a very cool guy. It's his first film and we sat through the narration with him and loved his idea of the film. He has worked with Dharma Productions for many years now as a chief assistant director. He knows the whole game. I just saw the film a couple of days back and you'll fall in love with it. It's a lot of fun exchanging ideas and knowing what's coming from a new mind. A director listens to a certain kind of music and we give him exactly that in his film, to what he listens to, and yet it sounds different.
Vishal Shekhar - Singers
When we compose songs and put down our scratch, it so happens that our voice just locks with the song. If Vishal has sung a certain song and it fits well with the lyrics and the way he sings it, we don't need any other singer, and vice-versa. We never think as music directors that we should be singing as many songs as possible. That doesn't happen. The song chooses us more than we choose the song.
BGM - Background Music
In the West, they have OST (Original Sound Track) where a lot of artists come together and do a lot of tracks. Ninety Nine percent of the films in Hollywood work on Background Score. In India, our industry works on songs which form a very integral part of our films. Now a lot of people know the difference between score and songs. In this part of the world, people think that the music directors are the ones who have done the background music for the film. That's not true. There are background score specialists in our industry. We have Salim- Sulaiman who are very good, there is Sandeep Chowta who's good. Vishal Bhardwaj does it himself too which is a rare thing.
Creating sounds
We do work from the samples which we have but most of the time we try and create our own sounds. We tweak the samples in such a way that they should sound completely different from what they originally used to sound and give it a slight edgier feel.
Vishal Dadlani
We are a great combo. Vishal and I write songs together. If one of us is at home or the studio, it doesn't matter. Our phones are on all the time. Sometimes we compose the track in the middle of the night or sometimes very early in the morning. Sometimes we are sitting at a coffee shop close by where we hum a few tunes and both of us come up with something. We just jam together and music flows.
Favourite Vishal Shekhar song
Every song that comes out from our album is special to us. We are very closely connected to it. To name my top three favourite songs I'd put - 'Allah Ke Bande' one number one, 'Tu Aashiqui Hai' on number two and the song which I wrote for my wife, the first ever song I composed and sang 'Dil Se Mere Door Na Jaana' from Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi.
London
London is one of my favourite destinations in the world. Every three to four months, I go to London and stay there for a week. I go to Hyde Park, walk around the park, sit near the lake and write a few songs. It's a different vibe all together. If you are a music director, you should go to London and walk around and you'll come home with music plentiful in your bag. That's what happens to me. London is so lively and has music all around the place. I went to London for the research of our film Om Shanti Om's climax song where I wanted to give it that whole orchestral vibe to it. So I went to see the musical called 'The Phantom of the Opera'. You learn a lot of things from watching people play live music in musicals, concerts, Broadway. So we decided that the climax song should be as powerful as the theme track of Phantom of the Opera. I came to India, wrote the song with Vishal and we went to Prague to record the song with about a hundred and eighty people who formed the entire orchestra.
Orchestra
I don't think that the demand for the orchestra in India is diminishing. It has gone down a bit due to the different samples coming in. But there are certain songs which require that kind of a live orchestra. For example, there is a song in Om Shanti Om called 'Dhoom Tana'. There were two hundred musicians who played that song live in Mumbai. That song was arranged by Pyarelal of Laxmikant-Pyarelal. We got drums, chorus, cellos, etc. That song required the magnanimous sound and that's what we created. But it entirely depends on song to song. I personally prefer organic and live stuff. Even in a song which requires guitars, we make sure that we live record that guitar piece.
Recent favourite sound tracks
Delhi 6 was an outstanding sound track. Rock On was a very popular sound track, Ishqiya was great. I specially loved the song 'Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji'. I haven't heard a song like this in a long long time. It's an unbelievable song. Kaminey was good too.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 21 Jun 2010 | 8:41 am Sonu Niigaam, Rahat Fateh Ali to judge 'Chhote Ustad'Popular singers Sonu Niigaam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will judge the second season of Star Plus' children music reality show "Voice of India Chhote Ustad".Source: Entertainment News | 21 Jun 2010 | 8:17 am Music Review: Lamhaa - Hindustan Times

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 21 Jun 2010 | 7:50 am Karan Johar gave away Imran and Sonam's publicity dates to other films
Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor were absent from Mumbai just before the publicity of I Hate LUV Storys (IHLS) began. The two cancelled their publicity work for the film and headed abroad for the shooting of separate films in Scotland and Mauritius, all thanks to the overweening generosity of the I Hate LUV Storys producer Karan Johar.
Dates have always been a burning issue among producers, often leading to unsolvable scheduling snares. During the shooting of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Aishwarya Rai had to shuffle her dates with Subhash Ghai's Taal. Neither filmmaker was happy.
Now, Imran Khan finds himself in a scheduling jam thanks to a clash between the schedules for his under-production film Break Ke Baad in Mauritius and the marketing and release of I Hate LUV Storys in Mumbai.
Meticulous planner that he is, Karan Johar had set aside a large chunk of Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor's dates in June and July for the promotion of IHLS. Ever-accommodating for his colleagues, Karan gave away Sonam's publicity dates for the shooting of Pankaj Kapoor's Mausam in Edinburgh.
Then Kunal Kohli requested Karan to let go of Imran's dates for Kohli's first independent production Break Ke Baad. Imran who was committed to do promotional work of IHLS marched off to Mauritius to shoot for Kunal's assistant Danish Aslam's, leaving Karan high and dry.
Confirming these developments from Mauritius the Break Ke Baad, producer Kunal Kohli says, "Yes Karan sweetly let me have Imran's dates so that I could complete my schedule in Mauritius. It's rare for two producers like me and Karan, to be friends and do whatever we can to help one another."
Karan in fact requested Kunal to send Imran back from the second week of June. But Kunal requested a week more. Says Kunal, "Karan's stars do extensive publicity. So he has made quite a sacrifice for me. My film which would be Imran's next release can only benefit from all the publicity for Karan's film."
Now that Imran and Sonam are back in Mumbai, they are expected to do 19 hours of publicity every day to make up for lost time!
Says IHLS director Punit Malhotra, "Yes... Imran and Sonam have joined us from the 20th and they have promised to really rev up the publicity now."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 21 Jun 2010 | 7:19 am Gustavo excited about Dhobi Ghat - Times of India

'Cultural feminism is thus the ideology of female nature or female essence re-appropriated by feminists themselves in an effort to revalidate undervalued female attributes'
If you have been able to grasp what exactly did this statement mean, you may still wish to go through the written word below. If not, then rest assured, Sex in Cinema is not really the book you would be overtly interested in reading.
Now that's an irony because with a title like Sex in Cinema, the least you want is something to be presented in the form and manner that is easily comprehensible to a common man. No, one is not looking at any tantalizing text or a provocative read that would lead to some voyeuristic pleasure. There are number of books available on the shelves for that purpose and frankly, this is not the right forum to discuss that. However, when the cover page of a book reads - Sex in Cinema - A history of female sexuality in Indian Films - your expectations are different. You want to be taken on a ride which you may actually have taken before but don't mind repeating it all over again to know things from someone else's perspective.
However, what you are instead offered is a strong 350 pages write-up which is clearly a work of thesis for a very select and handful of readers than 'aam junta' which could possibly have read the book from entertainment purpose. And again, by entertainment, it is not the carnal pleasure I am referring to but some basic insight and fun that one has from knowing something related to cinema.
This way, the book commits a faux pas of sorts at the very beginning because despite the tagline reading '....... in Indian Films', the references are all related to Bollywood. There is not a single movie from any other Indian language which is even touched upon, let aside being detailed, which entirely defeats the purpose of the tagline.
The issue with the book is much bigger though. It eats up 101 pages (yes, you read it right) before it even begins to talk about films. Before that, all one gets to read is author Fareed Kazmi's knowledge of cinema and the statements (belonging to the kinds as mentioned at the very top of this review) page after page. Is there anything wrong in that? May not be, if one looks at it from the author's point of view, because he wanted to establish a base before he could start taking a reader through the movies that have been made since the 1950s. However, before kick starting the decade wise journey, he alienates 99% of that segment of readers for whom a book reading is an entertaining exercise rather than an out and out educative trip.
Due to this very reason, Sex in Cinema ironically turns out to be a reference material for someone who may be looking forward to gain a doctorate in cinema. Also, the usage of some heavy duty English and the sentence framing means that an average reader's (I am one of them) interest starts to diminish extremely fast.
No wonder, even when Kazmi actually comes to the point and starts describing the 'female sexuality' from the 50s, there is just no patience left to know what exactly is in store. Still, one believes that a learned man like him (who is a Professor of Political Science) would have some valid points to make and hence gathers courage to flip through pages.
What one gets to see though is theme by theme, scene by scene, dialogue by dialogue and expression by expression dissection of many a Bollywood flicks from the past. Awara, Shri 420, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Hare Krishna Hare Raama, Bandini and many more flicks from the era gone by and picked as examples where Kazmi begins his dissection job. No wonder, the text continues to be totally tiresome to read as the author first explains the background of the film, then the context of the scene, then the mental conflicts that a character may be having and finally the reason behind why a particular dialogue held so much importance so as to warrant such detailing. There are Hindi dialogues followed by English translation and then Kazmi's own take on the situation; something that ends up turning away the majority of readers.
This is the reason why even as newer films like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun or Salaam Namaste are brought into reference, there isn't much patience left for the viewer to appreciate Kazmi's verdict behind a scene. Also, another notable factor about the book is that it just doesn't stick to it's theme of 'history of female sexuality'. There are lot of other tangents around texts and subtexts of scenes that are taken. Perhaps they (indeed) had something to do with the core subject but even if that was the case, it can be expected to be grasped only by a student of literature or someone who is writing a paper in cinema.
For a book that revels so much on detailing, one wonders how Fareed Kazmi would have reacted when he would have looked at his own introduction on the back cover of the book. After all, for someone who had painstakingly put together this book, the least recognition he could have expected was to be credited as a Professor from 'University of Allahabad' and not 'Allababad', as the cover suggests.

Trust Ram Gopal Varma to allow a joke on himself time and again. He was the last man standing and came up with a big laugh even as his Aag was a butt of jokes for months at stretch. The jokes ended after a while but he never stopped laughing. So much so that in every major conversation with them, the topic of Aag invariably comes up and Ramu too doesn't mind giving a byte or two on the making and the subsequent destruction of Aag.
No wonder, due to the very fact that he was laughing on his own work (Aag, Shiva - the new one - and some more films) meant that detractors had to find a new way to hit back on the filmmaker who doesn't mind taking a dig on films by other people as well. While his sweet and sour war of words with Karan Johar comes with an ability of creating front page headlines till date, Ramu truly believes that ever since Aag, he has found himself in a position where he has to bear with other flops as well. Reason being that every time a film flops, it finds a reference to Aag by getting titled as 'XYZ director ki Aag'.
Says Ramu with mock laughter, "When Tashan came, they said its 'Aditya Chopra ki Aag'. For Chandni Chowk to China, it was Nikhil Advani ki Aag'. For Kites it was 'Rakesh Roshan ki Aag'. Now Raavan is being termed as 'Mani Ratnam ki Aag'. I guess apart from bearing with my own flops, I have to now bear with flops coming from others as well."
While he is busy with bringing his epic film Rakta Charitra (arriving in two parts) closer to completion mark, Ramu is keeping himself abreast with what's happening in the world of Bollywood. Also, he is allowing himself a chuckle or two with some of the famed films failing left, right and centre. No wonder, he doesn't quite mind when reference to Aag comes in every few months.
"I have realized that Aag has now become more popular than Sholay", he dares to make a bold statement, though with a reason, "That's because a hit like Sholay comes once in a lifetime whereas a flop like Aag comes every few months. That's the reason why there are so many references to Aag made time and again."
Not to be bogged down by scathing comments that are usually reserved for him, he makes a final strike by stating, "I am happy that if not anything else, I at least managed to set up a bench mark for flops. I can see that Aag will live on for many more years to come."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 21 Jun 2010 | 2:28 am The real reason why Anupam Kher refused Hitler
It's not only the concern and protests of people from all over the world about the actor playing the world's greatest dictator that changed Anupam Kher's mind about playing Adolf Hitler in a proposed Hindi film directed by debutant Rakesh Ranjan Kumar.
There was a bigger and more immediate reason why Anupam finally chose not to play the greatest dictator.
It was because of a call from his mentor Mahesh Bhatt's wife Soni's Razdan's mother that Anupam finally wrenched himself away from what could've been the greatest challenge of his career.
Soni Razdan's mother, who's a German, called up Anupam and said, "It's not only the Jews who suffered because of Hitler. The Germans too suffered. I'm one and I know what I went through. Please don't do anything to further the name of that blot from history."
That did it for Anupam.
Says the prolific actor. "It was indeed Soni's mother who made up my mind for me. There was also Sister Dolores who works for autistic children with me. Sister Dolores too told me she was against my playing Hitler. These two women decided the matter for me. I was challenged to do a part that has been done abroad by so many distinguished actors. But what is recognition when weighed against people's sentiments?"
Anupam has now offered to compensate the producers by doing another project in lieu of the Hitler bio-pic. "But they are very upset at the moment. The director said he was misquoted about crediting Hitler with the independence in India. He offered to apologize. However, the observation he made was contrary to the ideals I follow as an actor. If he's saying he would retract his statement because his project might fall apart, then he is not on the right track."
Anupam is annoyed by the fact that his close friend Pritish Nandy has tweeted against Anupam's decision to opt out of the Hitler film.
Reasons Anupam, "Pritish feels I should treat it like any other role since I have played black characters repeatedly in the past. But playing Dr. Dang in Karm or Hannibal Lector in The Silence Of The Lambs is not the same as playing Hitler. Those villains did not affect history."
The Dear Friend Hitler director Rakesh Ranjan Kumar is still waiting for Anupam to change his mind. "Hitler forced Mr. Kher to pull out of the project. Gandhi who is the hero of my film is waiting for him to come back. Mr. Kher's fans suggested he leave the project. Now they're going to force him to join back after knowing the full story."
However, Anupam says he won't change his mind. But he will compensate the producers and director by doing another film for them, if they so wish.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 21 Jun 2010 | 2:27 am
