It has virtually been a case of jumping from the fire into the water for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. If fire is a recurrent motif in the cinema of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, water seems to be Mani Ratnam's favourite element.
According to members of the cast in Raavan, more than 80 percent of the film has been shot in, under, around or below rain and water in the forests, rendering Raavan the most hydro-centric film in the history of Indian cinema.
Says a member of the cast, "We were drenched to our skin constantly. Abhishek and Aishwarya were talking, dancing, singing, reciting poetry in the water."
Abhishek's character of the outlaw even proposes to Aishwarya in the water.
According to a source, there comes a point in the plot where the cop's wife (Ash) begins to get attracted to the outlaw (Abhishek) who kidnaps her. He proposes to her circling in the water instead of around the holy fire while Aishwarya stands at the river bank.
Says the cast member, "It was almost like the two were getting married by taking their vows through the holy water rather than the fire."
Most seriously affected by this extreme circle of fire and water created by her two favourite directors is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
She was heard saying to a friend that she has virtually gone through an ordeal by fire and by water.
In fact, Abhishek and Aishwarya have worked so extensively in the water for Raavan that they don't wish to do even a rain song in the near future.![]() Total Filmy | Kat's missing Mumbai rains Hindustan Times It's been barely a few days, but Katrina Kaif, who's currently in Spain shooting for Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara in Spain, is already missing Mumbai. Generally, actors are known to go that extra mile when it comes to being in the public eye. At least most actors are known to be go-getters. But Kunal Kapoor, who has worked with several reputed names in the past, remains an exception. The actor hasn't had a single release since BACHNA AE HASEENO, which was released in 2008. The talented actor will now be seen in LAMHAA, enacting a significant role with experienced actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Bipasha Basu and Anupam Kher.
The first question I ask Kunal is, where has he disappeared? Kunal laughs, "Can you believe it, I haven't had a release since two years? [jokes] I am following [his good friend] Hrithik's footsteps." He gets serious instantaneously, "But it's going to change now. I am not going to be overtly choosy now. I am meeting film-makers, listening to film scripts and if all goes well, you will hear a couple of film announcements shortly."
Kunal is looking forward to LAMHAA with bated breath. "It has shaped up exceedingly well. Besides a gripping story, its the first film to be filmed in Kashmir in recent times. LAMHAA has straight-out-of-life characters and it had to be shot in the state. Shooting in Kashmir was an enriching experience and gives the film a stunning look," Kunal states.
Kunal has the looks and most importantly, the talent. All he needs is one major Hit to cement his status in this competitive industry.
While on new releases, there is tremendous speculation about the release date of Vipul Shah's ambitious venture ACTION REPLAYY. While the release date of Akshay starrers KHATTA MEETHA [23rd July], PATIALA HOUSE [19th November] and TEES MAAR KHAN [24th December] have been locked, the release date of ACTION REPLAYY continued to remain a mystery. But Vipul has finally confirmed the date: It's Diwali, 5th November.
Here's a pertinent question: Will two Akshay starrers release in a span of two weeks? This writer spoke to producer Mukesh Talreja [PATIALA HOUSE] yet again, while writing this news-piece, and he re-confirmed 19th November as the date of PATIALA HOUSE. "We will have a joint meeting with Akshay and sort out the issue," Talreja states.
So, as of now, ACTION REPLAYY will battle it out with GOLMAAL 3 on 5th November [Diwali]. Get ready for fireworks!
Friday, 19th November is slowly emerging the most important date, as far as film releases are concerned. Just last week we brought to your notice that Sanjay Leela Bhansali's GUZAARISH and Nikhil Advani's PATIALA HOUSE have locked 19th November as the release date. Now comes the news that one more film will make it on this date: HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS.
HARRY POTTER movies have fared exceptionally well in the Indian market and in fact, have overtaken the business of several big-budget Hindi films in the past. The new installment, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, will not only be released simultaneously in India, but besides English, will be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions too. If that's not enough, the new HARRY POTTER movie will be released in 3D and Imax too.
Meanwhile, Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV has quashed rumours vis-a-vis UTV having second thoughts on bringing GUZAARISH on the scheduled date. "Sanjay Leela Bhansali is ready with the final cut of GUZAARISH. 19th November is final," Siddharth tells me.![]() Indian Express | Trisha's brush with Bollywood Oneindia One of the most sought after stars down south is soon to make her big Bollywood debut alongside Bollywood Box Office king Akshay Kumar in the comic riot Priyadarshan's Khatta Meetha. No point taking the credit away from him by calling him the son of a superstar, Abhishek Bachchan has come into his own in every single way. Though he had a rough start in Bollywood, AB Jr. is now one of the most compelling performers of B-town. Abhishek Bachchan shines in his own light now. Married to one of India's most beautiful woman, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek has proven that his off screen 'jodi' with Ash works beautifully on screen too, whether it was in Sarkar Raj or Guru.
Yet again, the Junior Bachchan plans to come on the silver screen with Ash in a riveting Mani Ratnam film Raavan, in which he plays the title role.

Sandeep Bhargava has resigned from the advisory post of The Indian Film Company. His last day will be 30th June, 2010. Sandeep embarked on an extremely challenging journey in mid-2006 to give birth to a new company, Studio 18. His first and foremost challenge was to hand-pick key talents from varied backgrounds and to put together a group of professionals who were later recognized by the industry as one of the most formidable teams in film business.
Within one year of its operation, not only was the company listed on London Stock Exchange and raised 55 million pounds as The Indian Film Company, but had also established as a prolific film studio. The rise of Studio 18 under the leadership of Sandeep Bhargava is considered one of the quickest cases of a full-fledged studio starting, consolidating and reaching business leadership stage in motion picture business, which is one of the toughest for new companies given its unique character.
During his tenure as a CEO, The Indian Film Company & Studio 18 gave iconic successes like JAB WE MET, WELCOME, GOLMAAL RETURNS, SINGH IS KINNG and GHAJINI. Two films from Studio 18's portfolio with debutant directors, Sooni Taraporwala's LITTLE ZIZOU and Amrit Sagar's 1971, got critical recognition and received National Awards.
Sandeep pioneered the model of syndication of content for televised viewing as well as limited music rights. Both these have changed the rules of the business as far as sales of satellite and music rights are concerned. Sandeep not only set up the India operations of Studio 18, but also put together international talent and offices. He worked very closely with international directors like Mira Nair, Gurinder Chadha and Dev Benegal for projects that targeted international markets.
After 13 years of extensive advertising experience, Sandeep joined entertainment industry in 2003. Previous to Indian Films, Sandeep worked as COO with Sahara One Motion Pictures and UTV.
Eros International Media Ltd. has announced it will be co-producing MAUSAM with Vistaar Religare and Cinergy. The film stars Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor and is directed by Pankaj Kapoor. MAUSAM went on floor last month with its first schedule in Edinburgh in Scotland. The film, as the title suggests, will be shot across various seasons and the shoot will continue at other locales like Delhi, Punjab, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. It has script and direction by Pankaj Kapur, photography by veteran Binod Pradhan and music by Pritam.
With MAUSAM, Eros and Vistaar Religare embark on a long-term relationship and are looking at further projects together.
After a period of serious re-thinking John Abraham has gone on a signing spree.
Apparently, he's doing as many as 12 films now ranging from a sequel on male bonding (Dostana 2) to a boys-having-fun comedy (Desi Boys) to a science-fiction flick (Alien Sahib) to a full-on action flick co-starring Asin.
John Abraham has four back-to-back films to shoot this year. He first shoots for Vishal Bhardwaj's Saat Khoon Maaf in Coorg, then Nishikant Kamat's film for producer Vipul Shah. Then John moves to Dostana 2 in July for which he has been preparing urgently. This time there would be more meat not just in terms of physical exposure but also his role which is being expanded and re-worked by director Tarun Mansukhani who feels too much attention was given to John's physique in the first Dostana. From October 20, John starts shooting for Rohit Dhawan's Desi Boys.
Speaking on the flurry of assignments John laughs, "It's not about the number of assignments. It's about the quality of work I do. If I may say so myself, the audience that comes to watch my films has a certain expectation especially after the two back-to-back successes Dostana and New York that I had. I won't be able to face my audience if they go away disappointment. So yes, I'm doing three films one after the other this year starting with Nishikant Kamat's film and then going on to Dostana 2. On the day that the shooting of Dostana 2 ends I start shooting for David Dhawan's son Rohit's Desi Boys with Akshay Kumar. So it's a very crowded year for me."
Poopoohing the talk that his films are being shelved, John says, "Some of my films got delayed because of various reasons, nothing to do with me. Why make me the face of all the problems faced by my films? I can only say with complete certainty that no film of mine will ever get delayed because of me. And no film of mine will be shelved if I can help it. "
Even before the hangover of a spectacular Videocon IIFA Weekend 2010 subsides, it seems like the host country, Sri Lanka, has already begun reaping the benefits of playing host to IIFA's magnificent 11th edition. Recognizing the gorgeousness of the island nation, and the welcoming warmth received by the Indian Film Fraternity during another magical IIFA weekend, Anees Bazmee's new film Ready, produced by T-Series and starring Salman Khan and Asin in lead roles, will now be filmed in Sri Lanka, beginning 20th June, 2010. The movie's location for shooting was originally scheduled to be Mauritius, but after enjoying a beautiful locale like Colombo during the Videocon IIFA Weekend, there was much enthusiasm to change the location to Sri Lanka
It may be recalled that in the absence of the Bachchan parivar and Shah Rukh Khan at the recently held IIFA weekend in Colombo, it was none other than Salman Khan who was the main attraction at this extravaganza. The actor, who played a key role in the IIFA Hands for Humanity Project, as the Brand Ambassador for Charity, thoroughly appreciated the kindness and generosity of the Sri Lankans and claims to be thrilled about returning to the neighbouring island.
Sri Lanka is undoubtedly excited to welcome the whole cast of Ready. It seems like the exuberant aura of Sri Lanka, that received global recognition at the Videocon IIFA Weekend will prove to be a big plus for this host country in the days to come.

Apparently, the overall response has been extremely pleasing from the viewers across the globe. In a first of its kind reality show where even the kid in the family can contribute towards winning the prize money makes Big Money a buzz in the world of all television addicts.
Produced in association with Big Synergy, the show will begin mid-July on Imagine.
The hottest thing to have ever happened to Bollywood goes by the name of Gul Panag. And she has to her credit some of the memorable films that Bollywood has produced in the recent past. When most of the world dreads Mathematics like a dreadful disease, she proudly flaunts a graduation degree in the same. A super-active kid at studies, she has many awards and rewards to her credit. An ardent public speaker, she entered the Miss India, only to win it, which eventually paved her way to TV and then into Bollywood!
Gul Panag, who features on the cover of this month's Maxim, goes onto say that (on record) quite a few things about her life, films and much more. She starts off saying, "You can say that I was brought up to stand out." She does look like a million bucks when she is atop...a bike! This one's for all those who wandered and wondered about this bomb-shell on a bike. She sets the record straight by saying, "If a woman on a bike is enough to drive any guy insane, I just don't get the point. It's not like I ride a bike in a bikini! I am wearing a jacket and a helmet, so there isn't much at display here."
All this and much more, only in the latest edition of the Maxim.

All that talk of aspiring actor Nikhil Dwivedi doing a nude sequence for Mani Ratnam's Raavan was a bit premature. The fact is, Nikhil got shy at the last minute about going all the way thereby creating a panic in the jungles where the film was shot.
Says a very reliable source from the unit, "The first ever male nude sequence in a Hindi film almost didn't happen. Nikhil Dwivedi who had to do the scene copped out. The director Mani Ratnam tried to explain to him that the scene was not for titillation. It is a scene of torture of a cop. Usually its cops who are shown torturing suspected offenders. Here it's the other way around. Beera (Abhishek) and his men capture a cop played by Nikhil Dwivedi. They strip and torture him."
This is where Nikhil put his foot down. He flatly refused to perform the 'rear' feat arguing that his family and friends would be deeply mortified.
"Sir main apne ghar walon ko kya mooh dikhaonga?" Dwivedi apparently whined in front of the baffled director who isn't used to being told no.
Says the source, "All attempts to convince Nikhil to bare all failed. Mani Ratnam was at his wit's end. His assistants reminded Nikhil that the actor's counterpart in Tamil (John Vijay) had willingly bared all. But Nikhil was immovable. They finally had to get a body-double with... shall we see... similar vital statistics to stand in for Nikhil."
When contacted Dwivedi is afraid to talk, "I am not allowed to say anything. But if you're talking about full-frontal nudity then sorry I won't do it. We Indians have a certain inbuilt censorship."
While Dwivedi demurred, Rahul Bose had no qualms stripping for the camera in Dev Benegal's Split Wide Open. Ranbir Kapoor dropped the towel in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya. Even Anil Kapoor did a sequence in the buff for Shankar's Nayak. Recently, John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh did police interrogation scenes in the nude in Kabir Khan's New York and Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail, respectively.
Says Rajit Kapoor, "What's the big deal about going nude for the camera? I did it in Train To Pakistan 20 years ago."| World : News Archives | Business | Entertainment | Sports | Technology | Science | Marketplace Audio |
