Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 3 Jun 2010 | 8:14 am "Housefull DVD and Blu Ray is going to be the ultimate experience" - Sajid Khan
Sajid Khan is definitely one man who can very easily give the term 'comedy' a huge inferiority complex, as with his latest film Housefull, he enthralled the audience in laughter.
Sajid was recently live on Bollywood Hungama's video chat with viewers, where they spoke about everything under the sun. For all those of you who missed it, we bring you the excerpts from the chat session.
Sajid Khan: Hi friends... This is Sajid Khan...only on Bollywood Hungama!!!
PriTesH: Hello Sajid sir- first of all congratulaions for ur blockbuster HoUseFulL & rest chat follows den

Sajid Khan: pritesh, I cant conform on that as yet. But, I promise you it will be Paisa Vasool.
jahanzeb: im from pak you have sad in the interview that u didnt watch low budget films in theater but why
Sajid Khan: jahan, yes. Its true. I have a state of the art hi definition home theatre. Where I watch all movies low budget and big budget when they are available legally on DVD or Blu Ray. I think that going to the cinema (which is a very xpensive affair), shud be an experience to watch big films. Big in budget, big in star value, big in entertainment. Y shud I pay 350 rupess to watch a small budget art house film when I can enjoy that particular film more at half the cost legally on DVD. I like watching big screen films in cinemas.
CHIKU: Hi Sajid..what you think..HeyBabby was having a good music or HouseFull?
Sajid Khan: chiku, definitely Housefull.
Niraj: What is your opinion about Raj Kapoor,Guru Dutt,B.R.Chopra who gave message with entertainment?

anupam: sajid did houseful beat mnik collections as claimed?
Sajid Khan: anupam, I have been informed by the trade pundits that in India, it has. Overseas, MNIK has beaten every film including mine hands down.
aliya shaikh: do u like to cast hrithik in any of ur movie sajid
Sajid Khan: aliya, which director wouldnt!
Housefull: I am glad your sister Farah Khan is working with Akki for Tees Maar Khan .. it will be HUGE !

Sajid Khan: niraj, Sohrab Modi, B. R. Chopra, Raj Kapoor, Mehboob Khan.
Niraj: Do you agree that the quality of hindi film music is going down post 2007?
Sajid Khan: niraj, I just feel that somewhere most of our film makers are trying to please teh wrong section of the audience.
Emma_: What was the more complicated scene in Housefull to shoot?
Sajid Khan: emma, the climax.
Niraj: sajid ji,was it necessary to show the bird killed by vaccum cleaner?I found it tragic, not funny
Sajid Khan: niraj, if u see the scene again, I have never shown the bird being killed. Its very much alive. only featherless
Sameer Khan: Tell Farah that we love her and are looking forward to her next, Yous too, (my sis name is Farah too

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 3 Jun 2010 | 6:46 am "Ranbir Kapoor will continue to succeed even in his failures" - Prakash Jha (Part 2)
Albert Einstein once quoted, "Politics is a pendulum whose swings between anarchy and tyranny are fuelled by perpetually rejuvenated illusions." Prakash Jha's Raajneeti is based on similar lines. Characters you've never seen before, anger you've never faced before, conspiracy you've never been a part of before and a film that you've never ever been a witness to before. Raajneeti is epic in all way. Politics is just a pitch on which these politicians will play a match which is fixed, a match which can still go either way and a match which is as predictable as it is unpredictable...and the only way you can win it is by losing it all. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel brings you Part 2 of this ongoing match called Raajneeti. Commentary by Prakash Jha.
Writing
Actually, I've enjoyed writing Raajneeti. I had this whole structure of Mahabharata available to me. It wasn't there in Apaharan, it wasn't there in Gangajal, etc. Here, we had to take a conscious decision of how much of the politics, drama; love had to be included in the film. I am always trying to make a bridge all the time when I write and direct my films. I keep my fiction within the realm of reality. We Indians have a culture of nautanki. It all began with theatre, folk, classical art, etc. We have been a bit loud in all aspects of art. Whether its songs, dance, dialogues, etc. We love that. To keep the writing within that framework, it still seems real and fictional.
Speech
Yes, the speech is the sword for all the politicians. All great politicians are remembered through their body language and their speech. Their talk is more powerful than their weapons. There are very few good speakers in our country. I've heard a lot of them in my real life. But it's not only the lingo; it's the way you connect with the public. The way you connect with the issues that they want you to deal with. I personally have been in several situations where I have spoken publically. Somebody like Lalu Yadav connects to the public in spite of people thinking that he isn't a great administrator. He is a damn good orator. Nitish Kumar too is a great orator. Each of the actors in Raajneeti have got one great speech which people will take back with them.
Ranbir Kapoor
The best quality about Ranbir Kapoor is that he always gives you a feeling of security that he is secured. For him to do a film like Wake Up Sid, Rocket Singh and for him to suddenly decide to do a Raajneeti with a great ensemble cast was quite something. It takes guts man! Ranbir is so secured in any kind of atmosphere and that is what will keep him going far for a long time. Ranbir Kapoor will continue to succeed even in his failures.
Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 Jun 2010 | 6:28 am Check out: Saif Ali Khan shooting for Agent Vinod
Saif Ali Khan is definitely on a roll and role and how! After his last production Love Aaj Kal hit the jackpot, he is surely one of the hottest and the most bankable stars in Bollywood.
Now all eyes are set on his most talk about film Agent Vinod, that stars him alongwith his real life lady love Kareena Kapoor. The film is being directed by the highly talented filmmaker Sriram Raghavan.
Saif began shooting for the film last weekend at a bungalow in Kandivali. It is the same location where he had shot his previous films including Omkara and Parineeta. The first day saw some of the actions scenes being shot, which required him doing some high jumps and rolling down a staircase. The USP of this shoot was that he did all of this without any support cables.
The unit flies down to Morocco next week, followed by schedule in Amsterdam. Looks like Agent Vinod is all set to hit the jackpot yet again for Saif!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 Jun 2010 | 6:27 am Pattinson, Stewart to miss Eclipse premiere

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 3 Jun 2010 | 6:08 am Madhoo to feature in Hema Malini's Tell Me Oh Khuda
The very mention of the song 'Dil Hai Chhota Sa...Chhoti Si Aasha'... not just brings absolute vivid memories about the scenic beauty that Mani Ratnam had enigmatically captured in his iconic film Roja, but also the image of a girl who was 'innocence personified'. She was Madhoo, the very name who became an instant talk of the town and country, all thanks to her true-to-life performance in the said film.
For past few years, even though Madhoo was seen in a few small films, no one really took a note of it. But, it seems that actress is now all set to change this equation. She is making a grand comeback with Hema Malini's much talked about film Tell Me Oh Khuda. Madhoo will be playing Vinod Khanna's daughter-in-law, who is pregnant for the second time in the film. Her role is that of a Rajasthani woman who has to fight the bias against the girl child in the state.
It'll be interesting to see if Madhoo manages to make an impact again in Bollywood with her aunt, Hema Malini's, film, which is also a re-launch of sorts for Esha Deol.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 3 Jun 2010 | 5:56 am Live Chat: Manoj Bajpai on June 5 at 1500 hrs IST

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 3 Jun 2010 | 4:58 am Exploring 20 year journey of Ajay Devgn [Concluding Part III]
In this special three part feature, Joginder Tuteja would be taking readers through the 20 years journey of Ajay Devgn which actually has been a pretty stable affair instead of being a roller coaster ride.
Concluding Part III of this feature takes readers through Ajay's 20 years journey where he has reinvented himself time and again. Also he has balanced hardcore commercially cinema quite well with meaningful two important facts, something that has kept masses, classes as well as critics happy.
A new professional outing
As mentioned earlier, there was a journey that began for Ajay Devgn in the year 2003. This was for the first time that he was collaborating with hot-blood Rohit Shetty. A youngster who came with a fresh approach as far as churning out tried, tested and established ideas was concerned, Rohit marked the revival of filmmakers who came with no pretence as far as providing commercial masala entertainment was concerned. An old associate and friend of Ajay Devgn, he gave a new dimension to the actor's career. Though many may argue that Ajay made Rohit a director that he currently is, in the filmmaker's defence it can also be stated that eventually Ajay too got some of his biggest money spinners after roping him in.
No wonder, statistics speak for themselves. After Zameen (2003), an action thriller which marked the debut of Rohit as a director, Ajay was seen in his Golmaal (2006), Sunday (2008), Golmaal Returns (2008) and All The Best (2009). Each of them worked at the box office, though in different ranges but the truth is that the actor-director have formed a camp of sorts while enjoying a 100% success rate. Add to that the fact that Golmaal and All The Best have become a brand by themselves with the shooting of Golmaal 3 being already on and it is difficult to ignore the presence of Rohit in Ajay's professional life.
The balancing factor
While Ajay's eye on commercial gains for his films is pretty much known, what he also knows is that he is the only actor amongst the other established actors during last 20 years who has not just worked in parallel cinema but also gained a plethora of awards at the highest level for himself. This reminds one of Mithun Chakraborty who in the times of dance films and pot boiler cinema never forgot his roots that belonged to art cinema.
No wonder, Ajay is still the chosen one for Prakash Jha for whom the actor is the first choice when he thinks of making a hard hitting dramatic affair like Gangaajal, Apaharan or Raajneeti. Ajay was also trusted by none less than Mahesh Bhatt when he made an autobiographical swan song Zakhm. Govind Nihalani too must have been elated when Ajay consented to playing a lead in an offbeat Thakshak while for Rituparno Ghosh, it was a calling card in Hindi cinema when he cast Ajay for Raincoat.
Not that Ajay was looking at acting only in hardcore art films. He kept trying out different cinema which combined commerce with art and though he may not have been overtly successful every time, there was always a The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Yuva or an Omkara that showcased his prowess as an actor par excellence.
Reinvention
Meanwhile, Ajay knew that reinvention was the name of the game. This is pretty much evident in the section above (20 years. A hit every year. And still counting) where it is obvious that Ajay has changed the game plan as years have passed by. Starting off as an action hero, his biggest hits from six straight years (1991 to 1996) were all action flicks - Phool Aur Kaante, Jigar, Divyashakti, Dilwale, Haqeeqat and Jaan. In the middle years, he took a romantic comedy route with Ishq and Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha. It was action time again from 1999 to 2005 but this time around there was a huge ingredient of drama added to each of his films. Whether it was Kachche Dhaage, Company, Qayamat, Khakee or Apaharan, they were all dramatic affairs nonetheless.
However, a total turnaround in his films has come around since 2006 with last five years seeing him playing a comic role to perfection. Golmaal, Golmaal Returns, All The Best and Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge being his biggest hits year after year has been an evidence of that.
This trend is not expected to last forever though since majority of Ajay's films in coming months are hardly a comic affair. Raajneeti, Akrosh and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai are hardcore dramatic affairs and each of them is carrying wonderful vibes. Toonpur Ka Superhero is a live-animation flick made for kids. And then there is always a Golmaal 3 which would ensure that those expecting more laughs from Ajay before the end of 2010 are not left disappointed.
There are number of firsts that Ajay has been through in his career. These are:
First ever hardcore comedy - Ishq (1997)
First ever hardcore romantic tale - Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998)
First ever serious non-commercial role - Zakhm (1998)
First ever underplayed character - Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)
First ever film that would have catered to today's multiplex audience - Thakshak (1999)
First ever film under the direction of his father (Veeru Devgn) - Hindustan Ki Kasam (1999)
First ever year without a hit - 2000 (This was the year when he turned producer with Raju Chacha)
First ever Bhojpuri film that starred an established mainstream Hindi film actor - Dharti Kahe Pukar Ke (2006)

Salman Khan's ambitious plans to bring all the three Khan brothers together in a modernized remake of Manmohan Desai's Amar Akbar Anthony has fallen through.
While most other problems of remaking such a popular film could be surmounted, the one hurdle that no one could find a way out of was to make Salman step into the Big B's shoes without looking presumptuous.
The Khans and David Dhawan had planned to cast Arbaaz, Sohail and Salman as Amar (played originally by Vinod Khanna), Akbar (played by Rishi Kapoor in Desai's film) and Anthony (played by the Big B). While re-casting the first two actors was a breeze, getting Salman to do the Big B's role proved impossible.
Apparently, Salman himself begged off from the huge responsibility.
Admitting that the remake of Amar Akbar Anthony is now a dead project, David says, "It was just impossible to do it again. Can you imagine anyone else except Mr. Bachchan as Anthony Gonsalves? It's role he has made his own for as long as time exists."
With Amar Akbar Anthony shelved, the sequel to the 2007 blockbuster Partner is now being revived by the Khans in right earnestness.
A story idea has finally been cracked and Partner 2 is to go on the floors early next year in lieu of Amar Akbar Anthony.
Dhawan admits Partner 2 is on the way, "We've got an idea and we're developing it. While the core cast of Salman and Govinda will remain all the other actors will change."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 3 Jun 2010 | 3:05 am Soumitra and Indrani in Atanu’s Tokhon TeyishNoted Bengali director Atanu Ghosh is all set to cast seasoned stars Soumitra Chatterjee and Indrani Halder in his upcoming movie Tokhon Teyish (Then 23). Indian Film Festival of London are honouring Vidhu Vinod Chopra with a Retrospective, screening An Encounter With Faces (1978); Parinda (1989); 1942: A Love Story (1993); Eklavya: The Royal Guard (2007). Closing of the festival will happen with a charity screening of 3 Idiots and the proceeds will go UNICEF. The Retrospective will be accompanied by a post-screening Question & Answer session where Mr. Chopra will be interviewed in front of a live audience by a veteran of the British film industry. That's not all, IFFL will also be honouring Mr. Chopra with an award for his extraordinary contribution to cinema.
The Indian Film Festival of London - IFFL 2010 is the first major film festival to be held in London that is dedicated solely to promoting cinema from the Indian subcontinent. Along with the popular and offbeat cinema of Mumbai and regional India, the festival hopes to introduce audiences to the lesser-known cinematic traditions of the region, showcasing powerful productions from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The Festival will be held from August 25 - 29 at London's historic Riverside Studios which for over 25 years has enjoyed a cult status among film-lovers as the pre-eminent home of original and pioneering cinema. Riverside Studios has a loyal base of over 15,000 customers, most of whom are high-earning professionals in the media industry from a largely British background. The potential for crossover is immense.
Vinod Chopra says, "3I is a special film, it's a film that has changed my own daughter's outlook towards education and has taken up classical dancing full time. To have a charity screening for UNICIEF only echoes what the film is trying to say and we are really proud to be associated with such a Nobel cause. Also would like to thank the festival for honouring me with a retrospective of my films."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 2 Jun 2010 | 8:10 am Anupam Kher to play HitlerThe seasoned actor who's portrayed diverse characters onscreen, is now all set to step into Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's shoes in an English film. Three different wooden bridges for the same sequence had to be built for the climactic fight between Vikram and Abhishek Bachchan in Mani Ratnam's Raavan. This monument of cinematic architecture between two mountains in a road-less stretch at Malshej Ghat was constructed by famed production designer Samir Chanda and not by the distinguished bridge-architect Sheshadri Srinivasan, as rumoured.
What we would see as one mammoth wooden bridge in Raavan is actually three bridges constructed by Samir Chandra who reveals, "I had to build three bridges, one for the actors' long shots which was 210 feet long, another for their close-ups which was 70 feet long and the third for just the actor's leg work (running falling, etc) which was 30 feet long."
Taking a deep breath production designer Samir Chanda who has worked closely on several films with Mani Ratnam, Shyam Benegal and Vishal Bhardwaj and has an experience of 26 years behind him, takes deep offence at the rumour floating around that the Raavan bridge was built by Sheshadri Srinivasan, though Samir Chandra does admit that "others" had been consulted initially.
"But the bridge that you see in Raavan has been designed and constructed by me and my team from Kulu Manali."
Forty artisans from Himachal Pradesh were flown to Malshej Ghat to build this 3-avatar wooden bridge...Mani Ratnam would personally stand at the construction site from early morning till late evening, refusing to budge from the bridge-building venue.
Says art director Samir Chanda, "Mani's enthusiasm was like that of a child. We had first thought of building this bridge in Sri Lanka because they have the infrastructure and the experience of working in Hollywood units which required wooden bridges. Then we thought of building the bridge in Australia, and then South Africa. Finally, I suggested we do it near Mumbai. Why spend crores when the same quality of construction is possible at a fraction of that cost?"
And to get to the bridges, Abhishek, Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and the rest of the cast had to wade through slush and mud infested with crabs. Abhishek would carry his wife in his arms to the bridge. But who would carry the others?
This is the same bridge on which the climactic fight between 'Rama' Vikram and 'Raavan' Abhishek Bachchan is fought in the film. "It wasn't only about safety and architectural correctness but camera angles and actors' manoeuvring power. Also, the bridge had to look convincing as the actors fought on it. And then it had to look equally convincing being blown up," says Samir Chanda.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 2 Jun 2010 | 4:30 am Yash Chopra returns to direction, film goes on floor next year
Old is gold, this is one adage that has lasted the test of time, and proving it once again is the veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra who has announced his return to film direction.
Speaking on a show to FOX History & Entertainment channel, the man said, "Yes I am planning on starting my next film in winter this year, though I have the subject in mind. I am writing the script for the same and will start casting by the end of this year."
YRF spokesperson confirmed the same saying, "Yes, Yashji will be returning to films, and like he says the genre of the film will be his forte of emotion and romance."
Further we were told, "If the casting begins by this year end, we should be looking at a release somewhere in the later part of 2011. However, as of now we cannot release any more information on this topic, but we will issue a formal press release when the time is right."
With Yash Chopra announcing his return, it'll surely be one of the biggest comebacks in the history of Indian cinema.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 2 Jun 2010 | 4:29 am "Raajneeti is about power hungry people" - Arjun Rampal
Prithvi will belatedly harness his mercurial talent, emerging as a natural choice for the people of his country seeking an honest answer, an affable character weighed down by personal difficulty, love and angst. That's Arjun Rampal for you in a nutshell in Raajneeti. Rampal knows how to grasp those inner demons, right from his Rock On days, we're sure. Thus, he is back on the familiar turf with a vengeance. From the Rock stage to the political stage is quite something. But what remains common is the audience cheering him on, this time as a go-getter politician. With Bollywood's confidence in him restored, he is now carrying a lot of stake on his shoulder. Arjun's rare, instinctive gift for inhabiting a character has earned him a National Award, critics acclaim and audience appreciation. Will Raajneeti be another feather in his cap? UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel asks the lovable and captivating hell-raiser Arjun Rampal.
Growth
Prakash is very well evolved with characters, mannerisms, body language, etc. as a director. Yes, when you have great actors like Nana, Ajay and Manoj, Ranbir included, you know that there is only going to be great work done. Period. I don't look at my co-stars as opponents. But as their quality improves, my own game as an actor improves. It's like a tennis match. More rallies' improves your game.
Lucky
I'm lucky to be getting good work and it is my responsibility to deliver beyond all my performances. I want to take my character beyond what the writer has written. The biggest compliment an actor can get is when the director and the writer cannot imagine any other actor in his or her part.
Learn
I watched a lot of videos of politicians in my old days and in today's time, even the younger politicians. These are educated people who are in our mind space and the young blood is going to make our country prosper. Having said that, I haven't emulated any politician to play my part in Raajneeti because these are characters according to situations and a bit picked from the Mahabharata.
Raajneeti
The experience for an audience through Raajneeti is going to be about sitting and watching what happens behind closed doors of politics. That's going to be a new experience for them. It's not a film that preaches and teaches that this is what we should do for our country. Raajneeti is about power hungry people and what happens to people when they get so obsessed by achieving power - the power of a chair. There are two parties who are contesting and both are good in their own way but the approaches are completely different. Which party you are going to stand by is a big question and I hope they root for my party (laughs).Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 2 Jun 2010 | 3:55 am
