Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 1 Jun 2010 | 4:28 am "Paa made West realise of the thoughtful work happening in India" - Vidya Balan
"Ab toh aap hamare bahut kareeb aa gaye" said Vidya Balan. And what are you guys thinking that can turn out to be huh? Let's play. Two things - Either she is talking to the IIFA Awards trophy or it's me. You decide. Vidya Balan is on cloud nine. She is always smiling. God Bless her! But today, she is happy for more reasons than just one. Vidya recalls her happiness, "IIFA has been very special to me because my first film premiered at IIFA Amsterdam. My life changed overnight. By the time the film was over, my life had changed. Parineeta will always be special and close to my heart. Then I got my best debut nomination at IIFA Dubai the next year for the same film."
Talk about her ongoing and flowing nominations for Paa, Balan gets excited. Vidya is the film's heart, and its revelation. She confers on her role a dignity that miraculously stops the movie collapsing into mere camp along with the living legend Amitabh Bachchan and beautifully supported by Abhishek Bachchan. She quotes, "To get nominated at the IIFA for Paa is like I've gotten the world. I think it's very exciting and gratifying. I like to believe that I am matured in my performances. I am a happy thirty right now (laughs). I've played a good variety of roles so far and have tried to do the kind of work and choose the kind of work which has excited me, challenged me and fulfilled me as an actor."
So many questions, so little time. As an actor, Balan constantly surprises with the tiniest gestures (a purse of the lips, a flicker of the eyelids, a glance at her loins). She can be matronly and kittenish, severe and tender within the same scene. She often plays peculiarly Indian women - subdued, judgmental, puritanical, straitlaced, and disapproving - and then with one of these tiny gestures she tells us that underneath it all there's something voracious and volcanic and ripe to explode. Paa has done just that. She comments on her unexpected overseas feedback, "Paa has made me more ingrained in the West and that's what I'd like to believe. The overseas audiences have loved Paa. The film was a perfect marriage of a certain sensibility and infidelity and yet it was interesting plus entertaining. The audiences thought that it was a perfect coming-of-age film. Paa made the overseas realise the kind of different and thoughtful work happening in India."
Here's wishing Vidya Balan the very best of luck, films and awards this year and the many more to come.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 1 Jun 2010 | 4:10 am Will Gir lions keep their date with Amitabh Bachchan? - Daily News & Analysis

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 1 Jun 2010 | 4:02 am Debutant actress Nikhila Tirkha plays Ranbir's mother in Raajneeti
Ranbir Kapoor is very picky about his screen mothers, and that's because he has very high standards at home to equal on screen.
Hence he had said sometime ago, "My mom was and is a fabulous actress. But the person that I see on screen is not my mother. I see them as two different entities. I can't see my mom playing my mother."
At the same time, Ranbir is extremely particular about who plays his mom on screen. In Raajneeti the choice was narrowed down even further since Prakash Jha wanted the actress playing Ranbir's mother to resemble him physically.
After considering several unusual actresses for the part of his mother including Raveena Tandon (who thought she wasn't old enough to play Ranbir's mother) and Mrinal Kulkarni, director Jha zeroed in on a completely new 30-year old aspiring actress named Nikhila Tirkha.
Totally new to acting, Nikhila was chosen for her facial resemblance to her screen-son Ranbir.
Says Parkash Jha, "I was very clear that the facial resemblance has to be very strong. I wanted Ranbir, Arjun Rampal to look like brothers, which they do, and I wanted the actress playing Ranbir's mother to look like him."
Ranbir apparently gave his nod the minute he saw the unknown actress who was to play a very young woman required to take over a political dynasty and later was to play mother to Ranbir Kapoor who returns from US in the film.
Known to work with seasoned and saleable actresses, how did Jha surrender such a complex role to an inexperienced actress?
Says the director, "When Nikhila auditioned for the part I instinctively knew she was right for the part although she has had no acting experience. In fact Ranbir who's much younger than her was far more experienced. But he never let her feel like a newcomer."
Incidentally, Ranbir tends to treat his screen-moms with far more respect than he does his other co-stars. The unknown Nikhila got more attention on location for Raajneeti than Katina Kaif.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 1 Jun 2010 | 4:00 am Paul McCartney's tour bus attacked by Mexican mobLondon (ANI): Sir Paul McCartney was reportedly left shaken after his tour bus was attacked by a group of thugs in Mexico on Friday night. Playing a cop for the first time in his career in the Hindi remake of Kaakha Kaakha, John Abraham isn't taking any chances.
He wants to get the spoken language, body language, personality and tone just right. For this, John has not only been re-structuring his metabolism and changing his food and exercise habits and watching as many cop films from Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry to Om Puri in Ardh Satya to Amitabh Bachchan in Zanjeer repeatedly, he has also been socializing with cops trying to understand how their minds and bodies move.
Most importantly, John has been chatting with the Tamil superstar Suriya who played the lead in Kaakha Kaakha.
By sheer coincidence John and Suriya are neighbours in Mumbai. Suriya's wife actress Jyothika owns a flat next to John's residence. And whenever Suriya is in Mumbai, he stays a stone's throw away from John.
The two have been bonding big time with absolutely no feeling of ill will or rivalry about the fact that John is doing a role Suriya has already owned and patented in Tamil.
This is the first time that the hero in a Hindi remake has taken the original into confidence. From Vinod Khanna in Dayaavan, the Hindi version of Mani Ratnam's Nayakan where Kamal Haasan starred, to Salman Khan in Wanted, the Hindi remake of the Telugu Pokhiri which starred Mahesh Babu, no leading man has bothered to collaborate with the original hero.
Says John, "Suriya is a great guy and a buddy. Yes we've been bonding about Kaakha Kaakha. I've always dreamt of playing a cop. I've watched Mr. Bachchan in Zanjeer so many times I've lost count. One of the main reasons I wanted to do the Hindi version of Kaakha Kaakha was to get into a cop's uniform. To my disappointment my director Nishikant Kamat decided to do away with the uniform in my film."
So disappointed was John that he tried to argue with his director. "In this matter I am like a child. If I'm playing a cop, I want to wear the cop's uniform and feel like a cop." So adamant is John to get the uniform back that the script is now being re-worked again.
The moustache which Suriya sported in Kaakha Kaakha may also stay after all. Says John, "I think Suriya looked pretty cool as a cop, mouche and all. I don't know how I look with a moustache. If the people whose opinion I value like me in it, it stays."
Bipasha Basu apparently loves John with a moustache. And that factor has tilted the scales in the moustache's favour.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 1 Jun 2010 | 3:35 am All is well - Percept to release Emraan's Raftaar 24X7 in September
The situation isn't really as bad it seemed. Though there were speculations galore around the delay in release of Raftaar 24X7, the fact is that Percept Pictures is pretty much focused on getting the film into theatres in quick time. Come September and this dramatic thriller with media as a central element would be hitting the screens.
As per the production house, the film is ready with the exception of one song which would be shot this month. The film's release is planned after Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, another Emraan Hashmi starrer, which is all set for 30th July release.
Till a few days back there was uncertainty around the arrival of the film. There were doubts if the film would see the light of the day since it was announced quite some time, completed in quick time but not quite followed by any concrete announcements around the release plans. However, as things stand today, Percept Pictures continues to be excited about the prospects of this Emraan Hashmi, Neha Dhupia, Aditya Pancholi and Sagarika Ghatge starrer.
Says Sanjay V. Ahire, COO, Percept Pictures, "After a year full of crisis for the entire industry wherein many projects got stuck because of economic and other reasons, Percept Pictures has successfully managed to release three films in the last six months - Jail, Raat Gayi Baat Gayi & Bumm Bumm Bole. This will now be followed by Mallika and 24X7 Raftaar. Percept Pictures plans to release a total of nine films by December 2010. Our acquisition division is looking at Hindi and Marathi movies as well."
This is not all as John Abraham starrer Aashayein is also pretty much in the pipeline. Says an official from Percept Pictures, "That's right; the film will release in July-August 2010. It is with Big Pictures and they are working on the publicity and distribution of the same."
With the confirmation coming from the horse's mouth, all doubts are laid to rest w.r.t. release plans of Raftaar 24X7. The announcement also gives Emraan Hashmi some food for thought. With Once Upon A Time in Mumbai confirmed for 30th July, Bhatts announcing the release date of Emraan's Crook: It's Good To Be Bad on 24th September and Percept Pictures too looking at late September as the arrival of Raftaar 24X7, the actor could well be enjoying three releases in a matter of 2 months!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 1 Jun 2010 | 3:34 am Exploring 20 year journey of Ajay Devgn [Part II]
In this special three part feature, Joginder Tuteja would be taking readers through the 20 year journey of Ajay Devgn which actually has been a pretty stable affair instead of being a roller coaster ride.
Part II explores two important facts - a) He has never been out of business and b) He is someone who has always believed in volumes.
Comeback hero? Not quite!
Anywhere in the world, whether it is Hindi film industry or Hollywood, a phrase which
is typically used for actors is - 'He or she is making a comeback'. Fortunately for Ajay Devgn, this has never been a situation at all. As indicated by the fact study shared earlier, Ajay has never ever got into a situation where he has been so much down in dumps that he is required to make a comeback per se. He has never been out of sight. He has never touched the bottom of the barrel to find it difficult to pave his way up. He has never got into such a spot where filmmakers have shied away from working with him. He has never disappointed his fans to such an extent that he had to rebuild his standing in
the industry.
This is apparent from the fact that despite no hits in 2000, 2001 and 2007, he was still working in a big way. Incidentally, he also had a minimal number of career releases ever in each of these years. While 2000 saw the release of Deewane and Raju Chacha, 2001 had him featuring in Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke, Tera Mera Saath Rahen and a cameo in Lajja while 2007 was forgettable with Cash and Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag. On the other hand most of the other years in his career had him appearing in multiple films.
The volume factor
However, have these volumes always worked for him? Not necessarily but the fact still remains that most of the times, the success of at least one of these half a dozen releases that he has enjoyed in a single year has always kept his hit-a-year record intact. Let's check out.
There have been four years in his two decade long career where he had more than half a dozen releases to his credit. Yes, you heard it right - half a dozen. And this is discounting the fact that most of the other years have been a witness to three or four releases at least. Let's go year by year:
1993 - Soon after the huge success of Phool Aur Kaante, Ajay Devgn went on to sign dozens of films. Those were the days when a star value was gauged by the fact that how many films had an actor got on floors. Unlike today's times when youngsters like Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Neil Nitin Mukesh are going slow, a race on the fast lane was the order of the day then. Be it veterans (Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor) or competitors (Khans along with Akshay Kumar) - each of them was on a signing spree and Ajay wasn't to be left behind.
Result was a huge year for Ajay where his Dil Hai Betaab, Divya Shakti, Platform, Sangram, Shaktimaan, Ek Hi Raasta, Bedardi and Dhanwan arrived in quick succession. The only film that worked in a major way? Divyashakti, with none of the others either failing to take off at all or not quite coming close to the kind of success that Ajay would have hoped for after the hat trick of Phool Aur Kaante, Jigar and Divyashakti.
1999 - There was some respite in the interim years but yet again in 1999, Ajay had a remarkable 7 releases to his name. This was perhaps due to the fact that he was turning producer with Raju Chacha (2000) and wanted to clear his entire backlog before he ventured into his ambitious venture with single minded dedication. Whatever be the reason but the fact remains that 1999 was indeed an eventful year for Ajay. He had as many as four successful films to his name - Kachche Dhaage, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Hindustan Ki Kasam and Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet, a critic friendly performance in
Thakshak (more about this later) and only two disappointments (Dil Kya Kare, Gair).
2003 - After a lull in 2000 and 2001 (as mentioned earlier), Ajay was back to signing multiple films. Result was a packed 2003 with 7 releases - Bhoot, Qayamat, Chori Chori, Gangaajal, Parwana, Zameen and LOC - Kargil. No wonder, he went on to strike good yet again with Qayamat turning out to be one of his biggest money spinners ever, Bhoot finding him acclaim despite Urmila Matondkar being the focal point of this Ram Gopal Varma directed horror thriller, Gangaajal ensuring that his presence makes a serious film do commercially well as well and Zameen taking a huge opening and marking the start of a remarkable professional relationship with new find Rohit Shetty (more about this later).
2005 - Ajay wasn't willing to rest though. In 2004 too he had five releases though 2008 broke all barriers for a mainstream Bollywood leading man. Believe it or not but Ajay was seen in eight films this year, most of which turned out to be absolute non-starters. Insaan, Blackmail, Zameer, Tango Charlie, Main Aisa Hi Hoon and Shikhar - None of them made any impact at the box office and only pulled down Ajay a couple of notches. Thankfully, he had an out and out masala film like Kaal taking a huge opening due to its good music though it did get a beating a while later. The only film which really saw some redemption coming Ajay's way? Prakash Jha Apaharan, which didn't just manage decent collections at the box office but also fetched him some good critical acclaim.
(Visit this space again for Part III of this feature where readers would be taken through Ajay's journey where he has reinvented himself time and again. Also he has balanced
hardcore commercially cinema quite well with meaningful two important facts, something that has kept masses, classes as well as critics happy)

Guess what's bothering the film fraternity the most these days? Besides the tally of flops that keeps increasing week after week, there's another thing that's giving them sleepless nights - Facebook and Twitter. There's no denying that almost everyone in the film fraternity has started interacting with their fans on these two social networking websites, but a tiny section that's not on Facebook or Twitter are slowly learning about their impersonators interacting with their fans.
Remember how somone impersonating Kajol had issued a statement during the release of MY NAME IS KHAN? The comment was highlighted on national television [SRK, Kajol and KJo were in Germany at that point of time]. However, Kajol's hubby Ajay quickly denied the statement attributed to Kajol, adding that Kajol wasn't on Twitter and therefore, someone impersonating her had falsely issued a statement. A few weeks ago, Katrina Kaif too denied that she was on Facebook and Twitter. Now Ramgopal Varma tells me that it's not him on Twitter either. "I blog, that's it," RGV tells me.
What's worrying people, including celebrities, is that these fake accounts can actually prove dangerous since millions of fans across the globe swear by the statements made by the celebrities and even gullible journos, who, perhaps, may not have an access to those celebrities, would also endorse statements thinking that the asli celebrity has issued it.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 1 Jun 2010 | 12:59 am David Dhawan's new film titled 'Rascals'?

Right now, Sanju and Ajay Devgn have been confirmed, while sources say that Amitabh Bachchan will also enact a significant part in this comedy. "We are still into scripting. Lots of names will feature in this project," David says.
So what happens to PARTNER 2, the much-hyped sequel to PARTNER 2? "We have Salman's dates in 2011, so the project has been shifted to next year. If it's a Shahid Kapoor film, there must be some heavy duty dancing. Or so it seems, going by the way the music in his father's directorial debut Mausam has been moulded to accommodate Shahid's dancing shoes.
According to a source very close to the project, the film's aesthetically-inclined director Pankaj Kapoor had initially planned an exclusive heavily melody-based music score based only ragas.
In fact, Pritam Chakraborty who's doing the music score in Mausam has just recorded a raga-based love melody in the voice of Rashid Khan.
Says Pritam, "It was meant to be only a small music piece. But when Pankaj-ji heard the tune he wanted it as a full-fledged song."
Pritam admits the music in Mausam would be heavily melodious in the tradition of the great love stories down the ages from Bobby to Love Story to Ek Duje Ke Liye to Saawariya.
But now just days after Pritam recorded the raga-based number comes the news that a specially-designed dance track will be put together for Mausam.
A source close to the project who doesn't want to be named says, "There was closed-door meeting between the producers, the director and Shahid Kapoor. It was unanimously decided that there would be a very unique song-and-dance. It was felt that Mausam was too expensive a project to make it seem even slightly experimental in flavour."
Says the film's producer Sheetal Talwar, "We don't want to disappoint Shahid's target audience, the young fans. So yes, Shahid will dance after all."
Shahid's buddy Ahmed Khan is now busy trying to accommodate the dance into his crammed diary. He has no choice. Shahid has to dance.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 31 May 2010 | 3:11 am 'Raajneeti' about family, politics and powerPower equations, strained relations, the murky tactics of politics and bitterly-fought elections .Source: Entertainment News | 31 May 2010 | 3:04 am Kareena's 'Heroine' to have snippets of Hollywood beautiesEva Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Vivien Leigh.Source: Entertainment News | 31 May 2010 | 2:42 am
