In this issue, she takes the readers through her childhood, her entry into Bollywood, her formal training in acting, her definition of an 'ideal man', her dream heroes and her dream roles. She also clarifies the rumors that had her shifting base to the south.
All in all, this issue of 'G2' surely serves as an eye cooler during the time when the sun refuses to show mercy in the earthlings!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 May 2010 | 5:30 am Sajid Nadiadwala de-boards Salman's private flight due to health issues
A chartered flight carrying Salman Khan's friends and family including Arbaaz, Sohail, David Dhawan to Dubai on Thursday for his 'Being Human' concert had to be delayed by almost an hour when Sajid Nadiadwala suddenly took ill.
Apparently, there was alarm and panic on-board. A doctor had to be rushed to the flight, on examining him the doctor announced that Sajid was not fit to travel and was advised to de-board.
Salman's flight had to leave without Sajid.
News of the Housefull producer's sudden illness spread like wildfire in the industry. After repeated attempts to contact him Sajid finally answered the phone on Friday afternoon.
Sounding pale and weak the producer said, "It was a condition I had been trying to suppress for some time now with antibiotics. Apparently, the antibiotics turned hostile on me, and I didn't even know it. On Thursday, when I was ready to take off for Dubai with Salman, I suddenly had an acute pain in my stomach. I just couldn't bear it."
The doctor got him off the flight and suggested a series of complicated tests.
Says Sajid, "Apparently my white blood-cell count has shot up at an alarming rate. That needs to be checked immediately. Now I'm completely house-bound and bed-ridden for some time."
Has this suddenly withdrawal from Salman's entourage miffed the star?
"Not at all!" protest Sajid. "In fact he was the most concerned and persuaded me to stay back."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 May 2010 | 5:14 am Congress worker sends Prakash Jha 'polite' warning, Jha won't be intimidated
A Congress party worker from Mumbai has sent Prakash Jha a long and comprehensive letter warning him against portraying the Gandhis in an unfavourable light in Raajneeti.
Apparently, this is the first of a number of well-worded warnings that Prakash has received during the last one week.
The incensed and impatient director sees these as nothing but desperate efforts by over-zealous party workers to get noticed.
Jha has found the easiest method of dealing with these politicians' intrusions.
"Why give such people importance? Please don't mention his name. I simply don't react. When I got the letter from the party worker who shall go unnamed, I read it and tore it up. And I called up the gentleman and said, 'If you think I'm going to respond in writing to your letter so that you can get mileage and publicity out of it then you're mistaken. I want to thank you for your concern. But I've nothing to say to you.'
Jha says he won't respond to any of the politicians trying to get into the picture to please their high command and get publicity.
"If the Congress high-command has doubts about the content of my film they're most welcome to watch it when I'm ready to show it to them. Before that there's nothing to be said to anyone."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 May 2010 | 5:11 am Sholay's Kaalia gets flat from Maharashtra Govt

In this special three part feature, Joginder Tuteja would be taking readers through the 20 years journey of Ajay Devgn which actually has been a pretty stable affair instead of being a roller coaster ride.
Part I of this feature touches upon how Ajay Devgn has not only managed to survive in the industry for full 20 years but also made a definite place for himself alongside other
contemporaries like Shah Rukh, Aamir, Salman and Akshay - all of whom started
around the same time.
First question:
If one looks at Bollywood today, there are how many actors who have survived as a lead actor despite spending 20 years in the industry? Four or at maximum five? Well, the answer is - Other than the three mighty Khans - Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman - only Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn have managed this feat. This was of course an easy question and an obvious answer.
Now is the time for a second question:
How many actors have survived as a lead actor for 20 long years despite 'not giving' a single 50 crores collections worth solo starrer? Well, the answer is - Ajay Devgn.
Each of the top guns from the past and present (mainly Hrithik Roshan) have at least one solo blockbuster to their credit. The kind of film which has done phenomenal business across the country and hence brought in ton loads of moolah. Shah Rukh, Aamir, Akshay, Salman and Hrithik have number of such films to their name. In fact another actor from the same generation, Saif Ali Khan, too has enjoyed a Love Aaj Kal lately. Relative newcomers like Ranbir Kapoor (Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani) too has smashed records as far as a 50 crores runner is concerned. However, the only actor who still hasn't given a
single solo blockbuster is Ajay Devgn. In fact his lone 50 crore runner is Golmaal Returns and that was a multi starrer.
Still, the man has survived, and how.
Now let's analyse what is it that makes the man tick? What makes him popular amongst masses and of course the filmmakers, distributors and exhibitioners? It's simple. He isn't someone who works in films that are designed as 40 crore, 50 crore or 60 crore mega spinners. He plays it safe, sound and intelligently. He works in films that require decent investments and ensure definite gains. The margin of profit is always higher, the margin of risk always much lower and guarantee of success certainly higher.
That's Ajay Devgn for you who has been enjoying consistent success over the years and more often than not enjoyed returns that have been beneficial for everyone in the supply chain. No wonder, his track record says it all. Let's explore.
20 years. A hit every year. And still counting.
Pick up any of the top aforementioned actors. Whether it is Shah Rukh, Salman, Akshay or Hrithik - Each of them has gone through a phase when none of their films has worked at the box office in one particular year. In fact Aamir Khan has even gone absent for full four years between the release of Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and Mangal Pandey (2005).
Now let's look at the track record of Ajay Devgn which is nothing short of enviable as there have been just three years in two decades when he hasn't delivered a hit.
1991 (Phool Aur Kaante), 1992 (Jigar), 1993 - (Divyashakti), 1994 (Dilwale), 1995 (Haqeeqat), 1996 (Jaan), 1997 (Ishq), 1998 (Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha), 1999 (Kachche Dhaage), 2002 (Company), 2003 (Qayamat), 2004 (Khakee), 2005 (Apaharan), 2006 (Golmaal), 2008 (Golmaal Returns), 2009 (All The Best) and 2010 (Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge) - In each of these years, there has always been something really worthwhile to show for Ajay Devgn; at least when it comes to commercial gains.
The only years which have been really bad for Ajay have been 2000, 2001 and 2007 but still a 85% success rate (if one looks at 17 good years out of 20) isn't a bad deal at all!
(Visit this space again for Part II of this feature where readers would be taken through two important facts - 1. He has never been out of business and b. He is someone who has always believed in volumes)Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 May 2010 | 4:30 am Sanjay Gupta and Abbas Mustan lock horns over remake rights of Spanish film
Sanjay Gupta is assured that there won't be any roadblocks in the journey that he has taken towards remaking the Spanish film Ladron Que Roba A Ladron. Though Maroos from Shemaroo too have their eyes set on this action thriller which is on the lines of Oceans series and have made their intentions clear about remaking this film with director duo of Abbas-Mustan, Gupta is amused at the very thought of it. Reason being that his company White Feathers has officially procured rights to the film while Shemaroo (apparently) doesn't have any legal right around remaking the film.
"I guess this is very preposterous on the part of Shemaroo to be making a statement that they will make this film instead of me doing it", smiles Gupta, "I am not bothered with what they have to say because I have been negotiating with the makers of this Spanish film for over 6-7 months now. In fact we also clinched the deal 2 months back. So where is the question of anyone else thinking about officially remaking the film?"
In fact the story goes that quite a few Bollywood makers were in queue to pick this Spanish thriller which was one of the few major flicks to get a major mainstream release in USA and manage a successful box office run.
Says an industry insider who has been closely following the interest quotient that has been on display for last few months regarding this film, "Here is a film which has been seen and liked by many. In fact it is not just White Feathers and Shemaroo who were hopeful of getting hold of rights to officially remake the film. There were other top Bollywood film makers as well who were trying their luck. In fact some people from the industry who are quite big and reputed also tried to talk out Sanjay into letting go off the right but he had to politely decline because even his hands were tied."
This happened because Gupta's work in the past turned the tables in his favour. Makers of Ladron Que Roba A Ladron were holding on to their horses and wanted to be careful about handing over the rights only to the director who could go ahead and do justice to this slick thriller. Once they saw Gupta's earlier work like Kaante, Musafir and Zinda, they were assured that he was the man for the job. Their only condition was that Sanjay Gupta won't just produce but also direct the film. This is what got Gupta out of a hibernation period of 5 years (his last full fledged directorial outing was Zinda).
"Well, the very fact that they gave my company the rights to make the film pretty much establishes the trust and confidence they had in us. I was actually busy writing my own script but since they wanted only me to direct, I had to do consent to that. Of course I am sure that I am going to enjoy my comeback in a big way", says Gupta who has almost finalised the cast of the film and is ready to announce it in quick time.
But Ketan and Raman Maroo seem to be quite sure about Gupta handing over the film to them? What is Gupta's take on this?
"I don't think it was arrogant on any part. Perhaps they have been misquoted", says Gupta in a diplomatic tone, "May be issme bhi unka ek apnapan hai. I guess because I share a good personal equation with Maroos, they feel that woh mujhe manaa lenge and I would hand over the rights to them. As I said, the makers of Ladron Que Roba A Ladron want only me to direct. When I can't rope in some other director from my company itself to make the film, how is it possible to allow any director from another company to do that?"
Meanwhile, how is he looking at addressing the issue around Abbas Mustan going ahead with the Shemaroo version of the film.
"Well, having known Abbas Mustan for so many years and belonging to the filmmaker fraternity, I am sure that they would be the last people on the face of this planet to indulge in hanky-panky like this", says Gupta in an assured tone, "They have been in the business for long enough not to involve themselves into something like this. I have the highest regards for them and their reputation is unblemished. They are as white as the clothes they wear."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 May 2010 | 4:29 am Emraan Hashmi - Neha Dhupia starrer Raftaar 24X7 shelved?
Launched with much fanfare exactly two years back with a budget pegged at 25 crores, Raftaar 24X7 was one of those couple of dozen films which came into existence when the industry was at it's peak. The term recession had not yet made its presence felt and every reputed production house and actor was more than glad to make huge announcements. There was widespread excitement around the film since a 25 crore budget allocated by Percept Picture Company meant that Raftaar 24X7 was all set to be Emraan Hashmi's biggest venture till date.
All seemed to be quite well during the earlier schedules of the film as first time filmmaker Shamim Desai joined the principal cast of Raftaar 24X7 in Maldives for a 'test shoot'. This was one of its kinds experiments as the week long trip worth Rs. 1.5 crore was planned to get the cast and the crew familiar with each other.
Says an industry observer, "Those were the days when good money was flowing into the industry. Corporate houses did everything to entice their actors and create an impression amongst the investors that their film was all set to be a lavish affair. No one could foresee that industry was headed for a doom in the year to follow."
A major schedule of the film was later shot in Delhi where for the first time ever in his career, Emraan Hashmi featured in a guerrilla shoot.
However, there was not much movement in the interim. As things stand today, both Emraan Hashmi and Neha Dhupia have not just completed multiple films in the interim (Raaz - The Mystery Continues, Tum Mile, De Dana Dan, Raat Gayi Baat Gayi) but also have their date diaries pretty filled up for the rest of the year. Emraan is looking at the release of Once Upon A Time In Mumbai and is also shooting for Crook: It's Good To Be Bad which is looking at arriving before the close of year. Neha has films like With Love To Obama and Pappu Can't Dance Saala ready for release and has a biggie in the form of Action Replayy lined up next.
"I think mostly the delay in release of Raftaar 24X7 is due to monetary issues and people at the top are trying to sort it out", says Neha hopefully, "I hope that important people feel as good about the film as I do. I truly believe we have something really good in hands."
Well, one looks forward to see whether Percept too shares similar sentiments here.
The production house Percept has been hit hard with back to back box office failure of 8X10 Tasveer (Akshay Kumar), Jail (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and Jumbo. Their offbeat films like Kanchivaram, Firaaq and Ramchand Pakistani have primarily succeeded in fetching only good reviews. Their recent release Bumm Bumm Bole, despite the association with Priyadarshan, too has been a disaster at the box office and hasn't seen much appreciation critically as well. Release plans of John Abraham starrer Aashayein and Nagesh Kukunoor directed Bemisaal are uncertain too. As for their newer films, Malamaal Weekly 2 hasn't moved beyond the announcement stage. While one looks forward to Percept reviving itself and unleash their line up of films to favourable results, the current status of Raftaar 24X7 continues to be shrouded in mystery.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 May 2010 | 4:05 am Attend IIFA event, face boycott, warns industry - Express Buzz

After getting back with his mentor Ram Gopal Varma for Rakta Charitra (nearly 8 years after he debuted in RGV's Company), Vivek Oberoi is now all set to work with another of his mentors Mani Ratnam. The buzz is that Vivek has given the green signal to work in Paki, a film written by Mani Ratnam and to be directed by his assistant Shiva.
It may be recalled that Mani and Vivek worked together in Yuva (2004) and Vivek also featured in the super-hit Saathiya (2002) which itself was a remake of Mani's Tamil blockbuster Alai Payuthey. Even though they never had a chance to work together after Yuva, when Mani Sir approached Vivek for this film, the actor immediately agreed. What's more, Mani's close associate and director of Saathiya, Shaad Ali will be the executive director of this project.
The film is a biopic and tells the story of one of Mani's real-life friends who is based in the U.K. It's no wonder then that this project is something which is very close to the filmmaker's heart. It will be interesting to see if the combo of Mani Ratnam, Vivek Oberoi and Shaad Ali are once again able to create the same magic which they did with Saathiya 8 years ago.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 28 May 2010 | 11:46 am Shannon Price's husband Gary Coleman is in serious condition, hospitalizedGary Coleman fell down due to which is suffering from head injury. One of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year, Mani Ratnam's Raavan, is just a few weeks away from release. The music by A.R.Rahman has already become a rage and the promos of have created tremendous buzz. Yes... come June 18, and viewers can get a chance to experience the world of Raavan.
While the film primarily revolves around Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and South superstar Vikram, there are also a host of prominent stars such as Govinda, Ravi Kishan, Priyamani and Nikhil Dwivedi who feature in important roles. While Govinda's character is similar to that of Hanuman in this modern-day interpretation of Ramayan, Nikhil Dwivedi happens to play Vikram's brother and Ash's brother in law in this film. So it may not be wrong to say that he would have taken some reference points from Lakshman's character in Ramayan.

Arranged marriages are almost always compromised arrangements. They require tremendous compromises and determination on the part of the less disgruntled partner in a marriage. We saw two empathetic male spouses played by Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan Khan in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, respectively.
In Brick Lane, Satish Kaushik's portrays with bridled gusto an ungainly Bangladeshi in the crowded community-driven Asian side of London , trying to cope with a hostile country and work- place, and a long-standing largely-silent wife at home who does not quite hate her overweight unromantic husband.
She just lives in a realm of alternate reality where she thinks love romance and heightened passion are matters tucked away in an unattainable corner of her heart. The wife Nazneen's giddy-headed letters from her sister back home in Bangladesh don't help her much in preserving her bearings within her four walls in claustrophobic London where her two daughters are meant to define her existence.
Director Sarah Gavron is wonderfully apt in projecting bottled passion whose fumes and aroma are just waiting to escape into the wide open fields of a Bangladeshi village where Nazneen lost her childhood dreams.
The narrative is miraculously non-judgemental about Nazneen's arid but not wretched existence in London and her husband Chanu Ahmed's pathetic inept attempts to keep home heart wife and daughters joined at the hip.
Brick Lane makes deft use of closed spaces in Nazneen's home and heart as opposed to the wide open fields that she dreams about. The inevitable infidelity, when it happens, is neither shocking nor lurid, just lustful and tragic.
Nazneen's temptation is a young libidinous Muslim guy (played convincingly by British actor Christopher Simpson). She tucks into him with the gleeful gluttony of a child left alone at home with a box of chocolates. The unlikely pair gets seriously torrid in every conceivable corner of the narrative.
The cliches in the plot about a lonely female emigre and her boorish but kind husband are negotiated with much dignity and some grace. The virtues of Brick Lane reside in the film's understated charm. Gavron states with transparent directness simple home truths about Asian housewives who lock away their desires for the sake of a settled life in a staid marriage.
Satish Kaushik's plays the cuckolded husband (not for the first time) with empathy warmth and compassion. As for Tannishtha Chatterjee she brings vital and tragic grandeur to her part of the dissatisfied wife. At times she exudes the earthy elegance of Smita Patil. The two performances and the director's proclivity to make the inherently banal incidents seem far more virginal than they actually are, make Brick Lane a film worth a look.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 28 May 2010 | 3:58 am Siddharth Anand speaks for the first time on Anjaana Anjaani
Director Siddharth Anand says his new film Anjaana Anjaani is inspired by the television series Friends.
"I remember when I watched Friends, I wanted to meet and know every character. That's how I want audiences to feel about Ranbir and Priyanka in Anjaana Anjaani. When Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge came out, you wanted to feel and touch Raj and Simran. That's how I want audiences to feel about Ranbir and Priyanka. By God's grace everyone in the team has given his or her best to this film."
Anjaana Anjaani has been scripted by Advaita Kala. "She wrote a chick novel called Almost Single. I asked her to develop a story by my wife Mamta. Ranbir and Priyanka had no reference points in any film for their performance. Ranbir is such a big star; Priyanka has just won the National award. These are characters going through extraordinary not easily relatable circumstances. It's about few days that two strangers spend together."
Siddharth shot in the Central Park's skating rink. "We shot in iconic New York. We had the skating rink shut down for our shoot for three days. Then we shot with Ranbir and Priyanka in NY's Café Lalo where Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks has met in When Harry Met Sally."
About the talked-about bridge sequence, "We needed to take over a bridge completely for 3-4 days. Because of 26/11 we couldn't get the necessary permission. We finally got the bridge in Kuala Lampur. They made it as easy for us as shooting in Goregaon. Thanks to our producer Sajid Nadiadwala we could shoot anywhere I wanted."
The whole film was shoot in live sound. "All my films are shot in live sound. We are releasing on 1 October. Maybe because I'm as peace-loving as Gandhiji."
Contrary to belief and expectation, Ranbir Kapoor's singing debut won't be part of the film's CD. Explains Siddharth, "Ranbir has sung a 1 1/2 minute track. But it is part of a comic scene. So he will only be singing in the film. We needed Ranbir's character not Ranbir to sing. So those who want to watch him sing will have to wait for the film.
Sighs Siddharth, "I did my first film Salaam Namaste in 2005. If I'm doing another romantic film it better be even cooler and more contemporary. Anjaana Anjaani is the riskiest film ever. I've experimented with the style and performances. If audiences believe in the couple they'll come back repeatedly to watch them. If they don't they'll reject them completely. It's so character-driven. If their performances don't work, the film doesn't."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 28 May 2010 | 3:38 am 'I Hate Luv Storys' offers impressive love songsIt is titled "I Hate Luv Storys", but the soundtrack of Karan Johar's forthcoming production venture is all about love.Source: Entertainment News | 28 May 2010 | 3:08 am
