Industry Roundup: Jason Sudeikis to Murder His Horrible Boss

Like a Boss: New Line is in final negotiations to bring Jason Sudeikis on board to star in its comedy Horrible Bosses. The cast is already bulging with star power, with Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Charlie Day and Jason Bateman signed on. In the Brett Ratner-produced movie, Sudeikis will join Batemen and Day as friends who plan to murder each other's boss. Aniston and Batemen each play evil managers while Foxx plays a con man with lots of murder advice to dispense. Sudeikis, hopefully, will also dance. [Risky Business/HR]

Lost Footage: As if the promise of actual answers from Cuse and Lindelof wasn't enough for you to snatch up the Lost DVDs in August, Michael Emerson dropped this little nugget today: the DVD will contain an epilogue of what the island was like with Hurley in charge. "For those people that want to pony up and buy the complete Lost series, there is a bonus feature, which is...you could call it an epilogue," explained Emerson. "A lost scene. It’s a lot. It’s 12 or 14 minutes that opens a window onto that gap of unknown time between Hurley becoming number one and the end of the series. It’s self-contained, although it’s a rich period in the show’s mythology that ‘s never been explored, so who knows what will come of it." Better set aside the $100 (or however much that damn thing will cost) now. [G4]

There's Something About Cary: Cary Elwes has joined Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman in Paramount's untitled Ivan Reitman comedy. He'll play a doctor who works with and develops a flirtatious relationship with Portman's character. The movie, which was at one point one of the hundreds of things called Friends With Benefits, is about two long-term friends and whether they can have a purely sexual relationship without falling in love. Paramount has set a January 7 release date, by which time we're guessing it will have a title. [Variety]

Texas Forever: USA Network has killed it with hourlong dramas lately and now the channel is going to take a crack at a sitcom. Driven stars Blue Collar Comedy vet Ron White as an out-of-work Texan who starts up his own limo company. We're guessing it's a longshot, but this show could really be something if White has a car salesman cousin named Buddy Garrity. They kind of look alike. [Variety]

Pinch Rockers: Yesterday U2 pulled out of its gig headlining the Glastonbury Festival because Bono had back surgery. Today a replacement has come forward. It's Gorillaz! Damon Albarn and crew will play the festival's headlining set on June 25. According to NME, the band offered up its services after U2 pulled out. What a bunch of nice chaps. [NME]

New GOP Website Is a Work in Progress

In an effort to get Joe Sixpacks and Hockey Moms contributing ideas on how to fix politics, House Republicans have launched a website called America Speaking Out. It's basically a Digg for political ideas. Users submit ideas and other users vote on them. Apparently the site is built around some pretty serous technology. At a ceremony announcing the site yesterday, California Rep. Kevin McCarthy, said in order to track down the software for the site he "personally traveled to Washington state and discovered a Microsoft program that helped NASA map the moon." So, how's it all working out?

Yes, the site is only two days old and yes, it's on the Internet, which means it invites wackos, but some of the suggestions are so absurd it makes you wonder if the GOP wishes it never went to the moon to get this technology. Some highlights:

"How about if Congress actually do thier job and VET or Usurper in Chief, Obama is NOT a Natural Born Citizen in any way. That fake so called birth certificate is useless."

"All this talk of oil spill is just another liberal media propaganda. Has anyone even SEEN the oil? NO because it doesn't exist. The extreme left wing only wants you to have windmills powered by the cow f@rts, and oil is so bad or something. OIL COMES FROM YOUR SKIN, it can't be that bad. He||, you even fry your chicken fingers in it for crepes sake. great, now i need some chicken fingers."

And the best yet (though we suspect it's a joke):

"A 'teacher' told my child in class that dolphins were mammals and not fish! And the same thing about whales! We need TRADITIONAL VALUES in all areas of education. If it swims in the water, it is a FISH. Period! End of Story."

But wacky suggestions aren't the only problem with America Speaking Out. The ideas with the most positive votes on the site now currently promote ending government support of religious organizations, legalizing marijuana and ensuring that "termination of pregnancy should be safe, legal, and rare." Oops.

Vulture Exclusive: CBS Finds Itself in the Middle of an Old Sopranos Family Feud

Tom Selleck's Blue Bloods Has Surfaced Some Bad Blood

When CBS started promoting their upcoming fall Tom Selleck cop drama Blue Bloods, the first seven words on the show's web page were, "From the executive producers of The Sopranos," a phrase sure to quicken the pulse of any self-respecting TV fan. While CBS was happy to tout that connection — the creators, Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green, are indeed former EPs of the series — it made HBO and several former Sopranos writers, including creator David Chase, very unhappy. So much so, Vulture has learned, that HBO lawyers sent CBS a letter requesting they stop using the Sopranos credit, and CBS has removed it from some of their materials. But why all the family drama?

Burgess and Green (who go way back with Chase, having all worked together on Northern Exposure) wrote for The Sopranos for most of its run, and even won two Emmys, for the beloved episodes "Employee of the Month" and "Whitecaps." But the husband and wife duo abruptly left the show in 2005, just before filming began on the show's final season. At the time, reps for Burgess and Green told Daily Variety their parting was "amicable." Subsequently, however, the writers hinted in at least one interview that they had left of their own volition due to creative differences with Chase. Chase and other writers have never publicly countered that claim, but people familiar with the situation told Vulture that it was Chase who wanted Burgess and Green off his show.

Bad blood would explain why the promotion is so bothersome to Chase et al: While on its face it is technically accurate, the phrase "from the executive producers" implies that they were the main creative forces. While this line was removed (interestingly, it happened soon after Vulture called CBS about this story), an equally brazen tout still appears in a teaser video for the show that was widely distributed after upfronts and remains on the site. In the clip, actress Dylan Moore raves about how good the Blue Bloods script is: "When I first read it, I was like, 'This kind of feels like The Sopranos. I wonder why that is?' And then I found out who wrote it." The trailer then cuts to Burgess and Green being interviewed about their creation. "We did The Sopranos for a long time, and that's a family drama," Green says. "But now, this is the other side of the law."

Claiming credit for things is virtually an Olympic sport in Hollywood, so while it may be a tad galling, it's not surprising that Burgess and Green would try to fashion themselves as the new godparents of The Sopranos. But had they and CBS been a bit more circumspect with their language, it might have been possible to subtly make a connection between The Sopranos and the new show without setting off any legal fireworks.

Consider, for example, how NBC is marketing a tie between one of its new shows and another signature HBO series. Love Bites is from long-time Sex and the City scribe Cindy Chupack, who's associated with some of that show's best seasons and episodes. But rather than hype Love Bites as being "from the executive producer of SATC," NBC's website discretely describes Chupack as an Emmy-winner and simply puts her Sex credit next to her name, in parentheses. The official trailer, meanwhile, refers only to "one of the writers" from SATC. (Incidentally, all bets are off when it's an HBO show: the pay network is marketing its own upcoming series Boardwalk Empire as coming from alum Terrence Winter, "the Emmy-award winning writer of The Sopranos.")

And really, when it comes to older CBS viewers, what's your bigger sell: The Sopranos or Tom Selleck? Just keep zooming in on that mustache and watch the boomers tune in.

American Idol Crowns Its New Champ

The ninth season of American Idol came to a glorious end tonight with performances by past winners, past losers and a group of stars from the past (Hall and Oates, Joe Cocker, Janet Jackson). More importantly, a winner was crowned. So, after a long night of singing, dancing and wishing Simon Cowell goodbye who was crowned champion?

It was Lee DeWyze! That's right, the former pain salesmen with leaky eyes is your new Idol. Congratulations to Lee and all, but the highlight of the night was William Hung and General Larry Platt coming together for a "Pants on the Ground" duet. Awesome.

Long Island Beach Rescue Goes Horribly Wrong

An unidentified man who was spending this disgustingly hot day sunbathing in Long Island was run over by a police SUV today in a beach rescue turned beach disaster. The officer was on his way to help a surfer in distress and apparently some large mounds of sand obstructed his view. And that's not even the most cringe-worthy part of this story. According to witnesses, the man had tire marks on his back. Yikes. At least he seems to be OK. The Post says he's in the hospital in stable condition.

Breaking: Olivier Theyskens to Design for Theory!

Olivier Theyskens hasn't been producing clothes since he was dismissed from Nina Ricci after his adored fall 2009 collection. But he's finally landed a gig doing a capsule collection for Theory. Theory! The great office-suit brand! That everyone is forced to buy on What Not to Wear! But we are thrilled with this, because Theory is a label we can actually afford if we feel like it. Details on prices for Theyskens's pieces haven't been announced, but we hope they're in line with Theory's other stuff. We also hope they don't water down his aesthetic too much. Stay tuned for more details.

Candace Bushnell: ‘I Actually Don’t Shop Very Much’

Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell promoted her new book The Carrie Diaries last night at the St. John boutique on the Upper East Side, where Tina Brown interviewed her for a small, well-heeled audience. Bushnell seemed more interested in discussing the roles of women in society as she sees and has seen them than Sex and the City as the phenomenon it became on the big and small screens. Nonetheless, the first member of the audience to ask a question wanted to know what Bushnell was wearing. Her sparkly blue heels were Miu Miu, a store she says she likes to shop at because the salespeople are nice to her there. But she also noted, "I actually don't shop very much. I have a tendency to rotate a few pairs of ripped jeans and an old cashmere sweater."

Bushnell, who said she couldn't foresee ever writing a memoir because she had some pretty "wild" days, did get a kick out of one gift from designer Christopher Sauvé, creator of the embattled Rachel Zoe–inspired "I DIE. BANANAS." shirt. He handed her a tee that reads, "I was touched by Terry," inspired by the recent Terry Richardson allegations. She let out a big laugh and said that of course she knew the reference, and accepted it graciously.

The Ten Most Image-Deflating Parts of Lynn Hirschberg’s M.I.A. Profile

Let us begin by saying we like M.I.A. and we're very much looking forward to her new album, /\/\/\Y/\, out next month. But that doesn't mean we didn't find Lynn Hirschberg's just-posted New York Times Magazine cover profile on M.I.A. — which is a fairly brutal takedown in which the singer comes off not unlike a whiny first-semester college kid — a pretty great read. In the piece, M.I.A. smack-talks Lady Gaga again, whom she's called out before for being style over substance. But is superficially branding oneself as a political radical really any less silly than wearing a shoe for a hat? Lynn Hirschberg does not seem to think so! After the jump, the ten most image-deflating moments.

1. On M.I.A.'s new home in third-world Beverly Hills:

[M.I.A.'s baby] Ikhyd was not, as she had repeatedly announced he would be, born at home in a pool of water ... “You gotta embrace the pain, embrace the struggle,” she proclaimed weeks before Ikhyd was born. “And my giving birth is nothing when I think about all the people in Sri Lanka that have to give birth in a concentration camp." As it happened, Maya, who is 34, gave birth in a private room in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles ... Maya and [fiance Ben] Bronfman moved to Los Angeles from New York, buying a house in very white, very wealthy Brentwood, an isolated and bucolic section of the city with a minimal history of trauma and violent uprisings.

2. On inequality, over drinks at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel:

" ... I don’t see how you can shut up and just enjoy success when other people who don’t have the fame or the luxury to rent security guards are suffering. What the hell do they do? They just die.”

Maya’s tirade, typical in the way it moved from the political to the personal and back again, was interrupted by a waiter, who offered her a variety of rolls.

3. Et tu, Diplo? The producer — for whom his former relationship with M.I.A. is obviously still a touchy subject — calls M.I.A.'s politics a put-on:

"She met me, and we started a relationship. Maya was into the whole terrorism gimmick at the time. It was all underground back then. In the beginning, she was trying to be different."

4. Hirschberg calls bullshit on M.I.A.'s politics via quotes from a spokesperson for the Sri Lanka Democracy Forum:

"Maya took a very simplistic explanation of the problems between Sri Lanka’s Sinhalese government and the Tamils. It’s very unfair when you condemn one side of this conflict. The Tigers were killing people, and the government was killing people. It was a brutal war, and M.I.A. had a role in putting the Tigers on the map. She doesn’t seem to know the complexity of what these groups do.” [...] “Maya is a talented artist,” Ahilan Kadirgamar told me, echoing the sentiments of others, “but she only made the situation worse. What happened in Sri Lanka was not a genocide. To not be honest about that or the Tigers does more damage than good. When Maya does a polarizing interview, it doesn’t help the cause of justice.”

5. Hirschberg calls bullshit on M.I.A.'s politics via a French fry:

Unity holds no allure for Maya — she thrives on conflict, real or imagined. “I kind of want to be an outsider,” she said, eating a truffle-flavored French fry. “I don’t want to make the same music, sing about the same stuff, talk about the same things. If that makes me a terrorist, then I’m a terrorist.”

6. On M.I.A.'s dubious reasoning for her denied visa in 2006 (which you might have heard about):

Maya has a complicated relationship with America. When she was recording “Kala,” in 2007, her second album (named after her mother), her request for an artist’s visa was initially denied. (Maya maintains it was because of her song lyrics; the State Department is not obliged to give applicants a reason for denying them entry.)

7. Again, Diplo helps Hirschberg with the dirty work. On M.I.A.'s insinuations that her estranged (?) father had been associated with militant Tamil separatist groups:

Maya claims that she has not seen her father in years. Diplo told me a different story. “I met her dad in London with her,” he said. “He was very interested in sustainable living and was teaching in London." ... Whatever the truth is, Maya has gone from trumpeting her father’s revolutionary past in order to claim that lineage to playing down his politics to support a separate narrative. “He was with the Sri Lankan government,” she now maintained, when I saw her in Los Angeles. “He’s been with them for 20 years. They just made up the fact that he is a Tiger so they can talk crap about me."

8. Remember when her "Born Free" video was banned from YouTube in April? That seems to have been her secret plan all along; she tells Hirschberg she was already designing censorship-themed costumes for her censorship-themed summer tour back in March:

“They have a jumpsuit that I like,” Maya said. “But instead of using their fabric, I want them to use a fabric that’s made from a document I found.” She took out her laptop and clicked on an official-looking typed letter that had been censored. Black bars erased certain words. “I’d like to turn this page into fabric,” she said. “I know someone who can do that. And then I want to take that fabric and make it into a jumpsuit. I’d like to turn censorship into fashion.”

9. Hirshberg editorializes a little:

“If I was a terrorist, I wouldn’t be wearing American clothing.” She paused. This may have been a joke, but Maya rarely laughs. She speaks carefully, slowly, with a kind of deadpan delivery. Like a trained politician, she stays on message. It’s hard to know if she believes everything she says or if she knows that a loud noise will always attract a crowd.

10. As the story goes on, Hirschberg's irritation becomes even less subtle. She describes a meeting about those tour costumes:

Maya seemed to be going for a combination of sexy and militaristic. She showed the girls her fabric ideas on her computer, and they were amenable. “Nike is the uniform for kids all over the world,” Maya said for no apparent reason. “And African design has been killed by Nike. Africans no longer want to wear their own designs.” The designers said they thought that was terrible. “The best sportswear is on Blackwater operatives,” Maya continued, referring to the agents who were clandestine guns for hire in Iraq. The designers nodded, but they clearly had no idea what she was talking about. “I want to have a uniform like theirs.”

Bonus! Lest Hirschberg's barely concealed annoyance with M.I.A.'s attention-seeking political posturing were lost on you in the profile's first 8,500 words, here is its devastating kicker:

She spotted a tiger costume, complete with whiskered hood, hanging next to an orange sari. “Look at that tiger!” Maya said. “I could wear that at the photo shoot tomorrow!” She paused and considered the implications of dressing up as a tiger. “It’s probably too much,” she said finally. “It might seem like I was making a joke.”

Janice Min: THR Can Set Agenda Without ‘Covering Picky Little Details’

The Wrap's Sharon Waxman just interviewed her new rival, Janice Min, who this week was announced to be the next editor of beleaguered The Hollywood Reporter. One of Waxman's first questions, clearly, was whether the former Us Weekly editor was going to make the trade (of which she admits she was not a regular reader) more commercial or consumer-oriented. Min says she won't. "It does a solid job of covering the bread and butter of 'This person moving there,' 'This release date pushed back,'" she says. "I think the opportunity with THR is to help set the news agenda for the industry instead of covering picky little details. I think you can capitalize on its history to have a powerful influential platform and voice." Here's the answer to the next important question we had: "I will leave the Lindsay Lohan drama to Us Weekly."

Louis Vuitton Ad Found Deceitful and Banned by British Authorities

The Advertising Standards Agency banned two Louis Vuitton ads in the U.K. today for misleading customers. The images show people who are supposedly Vuitton's craftsmen doing what looks like hand-stitching to their leather goods. However, Vuitton's bags and wallets and things are made primarily by machine, not by hand.

The ASA said that although Louis Vuitton provided it with evidence that many 'hand-crafting techniques' were used in the production of the bag and wallet, it fell short of what was needed to prove the products were made by hand.

It stated: 'We noted that we had not seen documentation that detailed the entire production process for Louis Vuitton products or that showed the proportion of their manufacture that was carried out by hand or by machine.

Most Vuitton customers probably won't stop buying Vuitton products now that they know this information. In the meantime, in their quests to ban misleading ads, perhaps the ASA wants to finally do something about all those images of women who have no wrinkles, kneecaps, body hair, flesh puckering, or other normal physical human traits. That's creepier and probably worse for society than a handbag fib.

Republicans Not Satisfied With White House’s Non-Explanation on Sestak Claim

All seven Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have signed a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder asking him to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Pennsylvania Senate candidate Joe Sestak's claim that a mystery someone in the White House offered him a mystery position in the administration if he'd drop out of the primary race against Arlen Specter. Apparently Robert Gibbs's explanation — which was basically, "We looked into the accusations against us, and we're innocent" — wasn't convincing. For what it's worth, this type of horse trading is pretty common. [Political Punch/ABC News]

Cintra Wilson No Longer a Critical Shopper for the Times

Cintra Wilson did not pen today's "Critical Shopper" column in the Times. According to Racked, she won't be writing any more of those, either. Sources tell the blog that section "is now reserved for Times staffers only — no freelancers allowed." Wilson, a freelancer, gave the paper a bit of a headache with her JCPenney review, in which she called the store's mannequins "obese" and lamented not being able to find a size 2 on the racks for herself. But she weathered the backlash and went on to bring us thoughtful commentary on the scary jackets at Lilly Pulitzer and saving money at Isabel Marant by shopping for the same sorts of things at the Army/Navy surplus store instead. She was so honest and made shopping so deep and delightfully complicated! We'll miss her.

Video Look Book: The Aspiring Designer With ‘Almost Tim Burton Style’

Aspiring designer Devani Weaver certainly isn't print-shy. The day the Video Look Book camera caught her, she wore four different florals among her cardigan, leggings, purse, and necklace. In fact, the only items of clothing on her to escape spring's flowery clutches were her brown lace-up boots and sunglasses. "This is probably the cheapest outfit ever," Devani confided. "All vintage." Devani takes inspiration from "Victorian, almost Tim Burton style," and we can see the influence in her cameo bracelet and oversize head bow. As for her hair, Devani is a perm devotee. "I kept it tame today," she told us, "It's usually a lot bigger." See more in the video.

Someone Please Develop The Tim Curry App

Gosh, I love me a good piece of Tim Curry news. What constitutes a good piece of Tim Curry news? ANY Tim Curry news!! Reports Broadwayworld.com:

Tim Curry will guest star on CBS’ ‘Criminal Minds’ season finale episode ‘Our Darkest Hour.’ As previously reported, Curry will play a serial killer in Los Angeles who preys on his victims in the dark, killing entire families except for one left alive to remember.

Woah. That sh*t is dark. This is sort of like in Clue when he manipulated his guests into killing all of the informants, such as Yvette, the Maid and The Singing Telegram. Or in IT when he played a serial killer clown. Not so much like Spamalot. Set your television recording devices!

Also, I would like to add, if anyone of you is technologically minded out there, would you please develop a Tim Curry App for the iPhone. Yeah, I have a motherf*cking iPhone. Also, an iPod. Because both of those things are impressive. Point being, I would like to receive Tim Curry updates in real time and from the convenience of my phone. If he were on Twitter, that might sate my insatiable thirst for Curry, but I really don’t think he is. Because when you search “Tim Curry and Twitter” a lot of dudes who sound nothing like Tim Curry come up. I need this. It would be my favorite app EVAH and that would include actual appetizers. We could work together and do fun things with it like have sound bites and such. Tim Curry based games. Really, anything Tim Curry related. Help a sister out.

Christophe Lemaire, the artistic director of women's ready-to-wear for Hermès, will take the reins from Gaultier starting with the fall 2011 collection. 'Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity' mocks bigotry (AP)

In this undated theater publicity image released by The Hartman Group, Desmin Borges, left, and Terence Archie are shown in a scene from 'The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity' at Second Stage Theatre in New York. (AP Photo/The Hartman Group, Joan Marcus) ** NO SALES **AP - It's no secret that professional wrestling thrives on both fake violence and simplistic character stereotypes. Playwright Kristoffer Diaz gives those themes a thoroughly cynical treatment in his thought-provoking comedy, "The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity," now in a colorful, slam-bang production off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre.

Courtney Love Asks The Important Questions At Theater Camp

Page Six has some choice anecdotes from a new book coming out, which includes details on Courtney Love’s parenting of Frances Bean when she attended Stage Door Manor theatre camp:

Bean was also teased so much that Love had Drew Barrymore, Bean’s godmother, call her at camp. “I asked her to have them say over the PA system, ‘Francis, you have a phone call from Drew Barrymore,’ so the kids would stop making fun of her,” Love related.

I think at this point in the movie about the girl with a famous mom who is bullied at camp so the famous mom has her famous friend who is also the daughter’s godmother call her up and have it announced over the PA system, the daughter with the famous mom gets even more ridiculed. Because if Bean is being made fun of, this would suggest that the kids are not super star f*ckers, therefore, would not be impressed by a Drew Barrymore call. Or not! Maybe all was well after Drew’s lispy voice whispered words of encouragement over the phone. That would certainly make all right with me.

This is my favorite part though:

She also once picked a fight with a hot dog vendor who refused to change a $100 bill. Rapkin reports Love threw her hands up in frustration and declared, “Who do I gotta [bleep] around here to get a hot dog?”

Who indeed. Who did Courtney Love f*ck for a hotdog? Because, although I realize that’s a figure of speech, nothing is impossible. I hope that’s in the book.

TRAILER MIX: Check Out War Pigs Before The Movie Actually Gets Made

Here’s the trailer for War Pigs, the latest (fake) installment of the ongoing Wild Hogs / Old Dogs “Middle Aged Dudes Compared To Animals” trilogy, starring John Travolta, William H. Macy, Brad Garrett, Cuba Gooding Jr., and a generous dollop of “Highway to Hell”.

How do you parody a movie where this actually occurs? Take a look:

Yeah, yeah, laugh it up all you want – it’s a joke now, but I’ll be keeping an eye on the Watchmen doomsday clock counting down til the day this movie actually gets made…

Being On Live TV Does Not Preclude You From Getting Multiple Parking Tickets

I hold this video in high esteem because I, too, have been burned by parking tickets in Santa Monica. Not quite as burned as Gayle Anderson, reporter for KTLA here, but burned. (Sidenote: Perfect reporter name!) When I received my first $50 ticket for parking for more than 5 hours in one spot EVEN THOUGH THE METER WAS FULL, I was shocked. Was the parking enforcement officer not supposed to pat me on the back instead and say, “I’m so proud of you for renting a car all on your own and driving on the Freeway to get here, especially since you base your ideas of driving in LA on films like Clueless and LA Story“? No, she did not. She was much like this officer. Stone faced, intent on her job, shying away from the camera and microphone I pushed in her face.

Forget it, Gayle. It’s Santa Monica.

Thanks, HuffPo

In What Ways Is Sex And The City 2 Like The Empire Strikes Back?

Continuing our “Movie Reviews Reviews Wednesday”, ex BWE-er Tom Ganjamie pointed me to the following trend-bucking positive review of Sex And The City 2 by one Willie Waffle of Wafflemovies.com (if you were planning to snag that URL, you’re too late.)

Let’s see how far we can read into the review without throwing up!

If Sex and the City was Star Wars for girls, then Sex and the City 2 is The Empire Strikes Back.

The answer is – less than one line. If you had the Vegas “Under” of one line and a word, you’re a winner.

For the record, who is Willie Waffle?

Willie Waffle is the movie critic for people who hate movie critics.

Oh cool, I can relate. My tagline has always been, “Dan Hopper is the heart surgeon for people who hate heart surgeons.”

By the way, I’m not writing this to haughtily dismiss a positive review of a film I haven’t seen and that 91% of critics may in fact be wrong about (even though I’ve long been a Sex And The City defender and hated the first movie), I am simply conveying the literal fact that I threw up one line into reading the aforementioned review. I’m not judging it or anything.

Besides, it’s not like the dude gave it FOUR waffles:

Stop Plagiarizing Patton Oswalt. You Will Get Caught.

By Patton Oswalt. And that’s no fun. The latest in the plagiarizing Patton Oswalt trend is Columbia School of General Studies valedictorian Brain Corman. Dude used Oswalt’s “Physics for Poets” bit in his speech. Because no one would notice the wildly successful comedian’s popular bit? I don’t know. I just don’t know. Here’s the excerpt from Corman’s speech:

Here’s Oswalt’s original bit:

Sorry that was cut off. You get it. Corman apologized to Oswalt, which is nice. In that it’s completely too little too late and WHAT WAS HE THINKING. This should serve as a PSA to anyone who is even considering slightly referencing an Oswalt joke without proper citation. Just don’t do it. Write your own sh*t.

Not for nothing, when I gave my college commecement speech I ripped off Scottish comedian Denny Willis’ “The Fox Has Left Its Lair” bit.* Killed, KILLED. And no one was the wiser. Fools.

*No I didn’t.

OPEN THREAD: Is Venus Williams Too Sexy For Women’s Tennis?

Venus Williams sported this black lace negligee corset thing on the court of the French Open. Forget the fact that she looks like one of the bartenders at the Diamond Horseshoe Inn at Disneyworld and forget that she puts the “spring” in Springfield for a second. Her see through nightie and cocoa-colored shorts have caused some chatter amongst both tennis and slut fans.

So the question, that we… never… really thought we’d be asking: Is Venus Williams too sexy for tennis? To be fair, if we had her body, we’d stroll onto the court in chinchilla pasties and Cool Whip boyshorts, but that’s because we have severe mental difficulties.
