In what would be a first of sorts move for the Hindi film industry, well-known filmmaker Sudhir Mishra is planning to form a cartel to distribute and market his own films and that of some other like minded filmmakers. These would typically be films that don't come with the 'blockbuster' tag attached to them.
Seemingly upset at the way his last film Tera Kya Hoga Johnny was leaked online even before its release, Sudhir has realised that its high time filmmakers take charge of these things. Says Sudhir, "There are people who make films and there are those who make synonyms for a lifestyle. If you notice, most of the films which are well promoted on the basis of who is looking hot, who has a superb body, who is wearing designer clothes are not really films. They seem more like advertisements for a lifestyle. So in such a scenario where does the real story-teller go? What will happen to the Hrishidas of today?"
So what is it that made him realise the need towards such a step? "The modern filmmaker has to become a businessman. There is no other choice. You cannot remain an 'Alice In Wonderland' anymore."
The first film to benefit from this new concept of a cartel is Mishra's own film Dil Dar Badar starring Irrfan Khan, Chitrangda Singh and newcomer Arunoday. "The title is yet to be finalised, it could either be Dil Dar Badar or Yeh Saali Zindagi. The film is complete and likely to release in October. It was meant to be a romantic summer song for Abbas Tyrewala's film to be shot with the director's wife Pakhi and John Abraham on various locations in London in the sizzling-hot climate of May.
Who was to know that the temperatures would dip dangerously and unexpectedly low to a shivering winter-condition in the middle of the famed English summer, thereby throwing the team into a state of confusion and panic.
Apparently, the May climate in London became so cold that Pakhi, wearing thin summer dresses, almost passed out.
Recalling the harrowing experience, Abbas says, "This was global warming in reverse. We had planned the romantic song months in advance for May to capture the soft summer light and shades in London. Pakhi's clothes had been designed accordingly."
Once the shoot for the song started, the London weather grew alarmingly eccentric and began to act really strange. "No one had ever heard of such freezing conditions in summer. It was bizarre," shivers Abbas in remembrance of the chilling experience.
Even more bizarre was Pakhi dressed in summer wear in the unexpected winter conditions. Explains Abbas, "She had no choice. We had planned this as a summer song. She had to be dressed in backless dresses and noodle straps."
End-result... Pakhi collapsed in the freezing cold.
Says Abbas, "In fact John who joined Pakhi in the song two days later told us it was too cold even for him although he was fully covered. We didn't listen. We had no choice."
The experience has taught Abbas that planning schedules according to the weather is no longer foolproof. "You could plan a summer shoot. NA JAANE KYON?, which deals with the love affair of a gay couple, portrayed by Kapil himself and Yuvraaj Parashar. Co-starring hi-profile veterans like Zeenat Aman, Helen, Mahabanoo Mody Kotwal and Kabir Bedi, the film is directed by Sanjay Sharma, elder to Kapil, but younger to Anil Sharma.
While DOSTANA wasn't a 'gay film' as such, DONNO Y... NA JAANE KYON? promises to be India's answer to BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. That's a tall claim, isn't it? "We aren't comparing the two films. All we are saying is that like BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, DONNO Y... NA JAANE KYON? also talks of two men who love each other unconditionally," Kapil clarifies.
What was elder brother Anil Sharma's reaction when he heard the plot? "He was surprised, but when he went through the entire screenplay, he felt that it had a strong undercurrent of emotions and boasted of a story that wasn't told on the Hindi screen before. He encouraged me to go ahead and realize my dream," Kapil says.
The next thing was, Kapil, co-star Yuvraaj and director-brother Sanjay Sharma started attending gay parties to get the feel. "We learnt a lot by merely observing people. DONNO Y... NA JAANE KYON? doesn't make fun or mocks at gays. Instead, it's a serious film, it makes you feel for the lovers, who have a lot of commitments in real life," Sanjay and Kapil echo.
Is the Indian audience ready for a film that talks of gay relationships? "Of course, it is! Like I said, this is not a frivolous take on homosexual relationships. It's a film that makes you think. Recall Bhansali's last outing SAAWARIYA. It opened in the Diwali week. But GUZAARISH is arriving two weeks after Diwali this year. Hence, UTV and Bhansali jointly decided to release the film after Diwali.
Now 17th November. Well, this happens to be a Wednesday, not a Friday. The trend worldwide is to release films on a Friday, but since there's a big holiday in the West, its Indian release is being timed accordingly. After a super-successful directorial debut in the form of Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na, writer turned director Abbas Tyrewala is back with his second directorial venture tentatively titled 1-800 Love. Produced by Sa Re Ga Ma and Big Bang Films, 1-800 Love starring John Abraham and Pakhi (wife of director Abbas Tyrewala) in lead roles, has been in the making for a while now. However, all of you eagerly waiting for this film can now smile as the makers have announced that the film would be releasing on the 15th of October this year.
Bollywood Hungama got in touch with producer Madhu Mantena who confirmed the news, "Yes...1-800 Love is releasing on the15th of October which happens to be the Dussehra weekend. We just have to shoot one more song and then we are done with the shooting part of it. Meanwhile, we have already begun work on the post-production of the film."

Piracy is the biggest threat to the film industry, causing loss of revenue in millions. The film industry is battling hard to combat this cancerous disease.
The latest film that has been hit by the piracy plague is the upcoming Sonam Kapoor-Imran Khan starrer I Hate Luv Storys. The music of the film is officially scheduled to release on May 27. However, the entire album of I Hate Luv Storys has been leaked online.
To find out more, Bollywood Hungama spoke to Apoorva Mehta, CEO of Dharma Productions, who said, "Well this was bound to happen. In fact to be frank the music of the film will release on the 27th, however, that will be the physical copy (of the album) while on the other hand, the digital version is already up and running on various foreign sites and carriers. So if there was a leak, it has happened from there."
He adds, "We have given a date of May 27th keeping in mind that the music releases in big cities first, then smaller towns and later in other places. So by the 27th the whole of India will have the music of the film, in simpler terms this is what we call as a staggered release and hence give a later date when all cities and towns will have it."
So, does this leak affect the music release plans? Comments Shridhar Subramanium from Sony, "We can't say that it has spoilt the release plans unless we actually had planned something big, in which case the music would have released by now, with the online and digital copies. So though the music may have leaked, it hasn't affected us in anyway since we are just two days away from the official release."

A bare all picture of Sherlyn Chopra is talk of the twitter town. This picture, taken by Vishal Saxena, who is a friend of Sherlyn and an acclaimed fashion and celebrity photographer in his own right, see's the lady baring it all for the camera.
When asked why she put that picture up for all to see, Sherlyn says "I saw the picture in my collection and thought I should share it with my friends and followers on twitter." The picture received a lot of comments, obviously, some favourable and some unfavourable yet others that brimmed on vulgarity. On the number of comments she received Sherlyn says "The feedback on my picture has been great. Some do find it distasteful. To them I would like to say - to each it's own." THE DVD
Honestly, I haven't seen many workout DVDs in the past. And the very fact that I am doing a review of this DVD means that Bipasha Basu has been able to do her job well around fetching the attention of those who may or may not really be looking at getting into a fit shape. For those belonging to the former category, it is a gift of sorts because now they can compare notes around their fitness regime with a celebrity who has been known for having a great body for close to a decade now. And for the latter, the DVD could well help in making them conscious of fitness because a celebrity is endorsing the cause.
What's good about the DVD is that it doesn't stretch (no pun intended) beyond a limit. Both 'Beginners' as well as 'Advanced' versions are just 30 minutes and 40 minutes respectively which means that not much time is wasted in detailing things which may not really be the need of the hour. Bipasha along with co-trainer Deanne Panday (another fit bod here) make sure that they have viewer's attention with their toned bodies making for an attractive sight.
However, for those looking at a glamorous outing here, be warned that 'Love Yourself' is not a filmy saga in the offing. The feature stays true to it's true business, which is letting know viewers of the importance of a fit body and how it can be achieved. While many would have felt that presence of Bipasha Basu could possible have resulted in something to ogle at, it is certainly not the case.
So what one gets to see in this DVD which promises fat to fit in 60 days flat are moves likes squats, stretches, shoulder rolls, hip rolls, arm swings, chest press and crunch, military press with wide squat, shuffles, jumping jack, abs crunch, double clam with namaste, dumbbell row, cross punch, pelvic thrust, doggy kick, speed bag, football run, rear kicks and cobra. For those belonging to fitness circuits, these terms should come with a strong familiarity factor attached to them.
The set design is colourful though one would have expected it to be a little more opulent. It all seems a little too cramped for comfort and a bigger stage would have only helped the video look far more lavish. Also, the idea of Bollywood music (though optional) being played in background as Bipasha and Deanne go around with their moves is a bit of a letdown. Really, it isn't quite classy to hear 'Beedi Jalaile' during a workout session! Thankfully, from core workout perspective, there are two audio options - English and Hindi - that helps the DVD to cut across various segments of audience.

It seems unlikely that many would be interested in knowing about the making of a fitness DVD. However, for star struck audience, there is endorsement of the DVD (and also for Bipasha) coming from the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra and even Mahendra Singh Dhoni. There is also a section on 'get to know your body' that has text details around different parts of the body as well as some detailing on how to save one's body from injuries. However, if the signature of a popular apparels chain on the DVD jacket as well as during the play of the DVD wasn't enough, there is also a segment sponsored by it.

CONCLUSION
Don't pick up the DVD only because you are a fan of Bipasha Basu and want to have a dekko at her fit bod. However, if fitness is something that you follow regardless of the celebrity endorsing it, go for it.

Deepika Padukone and Neil Nitin Mukesh who are shooting together just can't get enough of complimenting each other.
Says Deepika, "Neil is such a well brought-up guy, absolutely impeccable in his manners. Besides being a brilliant actor he's also a great technician. I see him turning director soon. My other co-star Imran Khan in Break Ke Baad is great fun too. We shot in Delhi and bonded immediately."
Speaking of Imran, there was talk of Deepika deliberately working with Ranbir Kapoor's immediate rival after their break.
The actress flares up. "No one tells me what to do and what not to do. My personal life has nothing to do with my professional. Imran is a wonderful co-star. I like working with actors who are fun yet professional, like Akshay, Imran, Neil and Abhishek Bachchan."
Ask her about the linkup with Vijay Mallya's son and Deepika sighs, "Can't I be seen with the people I'm working with without being linked to them? Not too many people know this. But Siddharth Mallaya actually runs the whole IPL show for his father. So it was natural for me to celebrate with him when our team won a match. Anyway the IPL season is now over. So I guess that rumour will end."
Deepika is very happy about her roles so far. "Housefull was a new experience. I had to do comedy. Like Akshay Kumar I chose to do a more subtle comedy in Housefull. For me being funny doesn't mean screaming and rolling my eyes. Now I've three films that are about to be completed. Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, Pradeep Sarkar's Lafangey Parindey and Danish Aslam's Break Ke Baad. Let's see which comes next."
Apparently, Neil is so protective of Deepika that he gets tensed every time she has to perform a stunt sequence. "It's very sweet of him. But I insist on doing what I want to.
