Salman organises celebrity cricket match and fashion show for Being Human

Salman Khan Whatever Salman does, he does it with style, class and panache. The face of 'Being Human' foundation, that he has been promoting quite voraciously, he has gone a step further and brought India and Pakistan on the same platform, so beautifully and for a worthy cause. It takes a Salman to do that. For the Being Human Foundation's event that is being organised in Dubai, in pursuit to take the cause across the border, something rather special is in store. The event would start with a charity cricket match, Celebrity 2010, organised by Cynosure that will see two teams comprising of Bollywood celebs and Pakistani A-listers. The match would be followed by a fashion show in the evening, organised to showcase the collection of his charitable trust. Right from watches, to T shirts and paintings will be showcased. Though Sallu bhai was expected to present the entire collection, he is now showing only exclusive products and to a selected audience. Reason being, he fears that the designs of his Being Human T shirts will be copied and sold on the streets of Mumbai. It's upsetting for the actor as he raises funds for the needy from this charitable cause. The known faces who will be walking the ramp along side the Pakistani counterparts are Arbaaz, Sohail, Sharman Joshi, Aftab Shivdasani, Riteish Deshmukh, Javed Jaffrey, Dino Morea, Sonu Sood, Riya Sen, Neetu Chandra and music composers Sajid and Wajid along with filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar. From Pakistan, the faces that would be part of the event are cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, singer Atif Aslam and actor Himayaun Saeed. Salman would be reaching out to his fans by explaining the cause behind the foundation and how their support can help the foundation meet its goals. We, at Bollywood Hungama, wish Salman all the very best in his endeavour.

"Kites is a landmark film, I will never be the same actor again in my life" - Hrithik Roshan ...

Hrithik Roshan Hrithik Roshan kisses trouble, every time he embarks on a journey filled with unpredictable results. But then the results are obvious - it's a success. It means that he kisses trouble goodbye. On the one hand, Duggu (Hrithik's nick name) exudes confidence, humour and, like a lot of ex-child stars, sometimes seems eerily mature and worldly. Yet off screen he cuts a surprisingly small, compact figure, still quite boyish despite the well-cut jacket, ill-cut beard and resonant voice with its Rat Pack locutions and finger-popping rhythms. As he discusses this summer's most awaited film Kites with UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel, occasionally you feel him pulling against the wind, then with the wind, and surprisingly, sometimes, unmoved. Here's is Part 2 of the unchained Hrithik Roshan. Fly along with him and explore the journey because you never know, you may kiss trouble goodbye too. They say love has no language. So how proficient a Mexican are you after meeting a belleza (beauty) like Barbara? Also, the film has you speaking in English and Hindi and Barbara in Spanish. (laughs) You've learnt a bit of the language too. Interacting with Barbara and her family, I have picked up a lot of Spanish. I'm so busy filming for Guzaarish that most of the words are out of my vocabulary. I plan to revisit my books and I am going to brush up on my Spanish. If a love story needs to portray a certain scene depicting sensuality and sexuality, it shouldn't be looked down upon as dirty or vulgar Why can't Indian films show sexuality successfully? That's because we are not fully comfortable with ourselves. It's kind of a hypocritical perception that our society has and is been made to follow. I completely disagree with it. If I keep on talking about the censors and our society, it's never going to end. If a love story needs to portray a certain scene depicting sensuality and sexuality, it shouldn't be looked down upon as dirty or vulgar. You should not protect yourself, you should just let go. The scene has to be pure. Hrithik Roshan And talk about a pure talent like Kangna Ranaut who plays a special appearance in Kites. Absolutely. She is an incredible actor. Her spirit and enthusiasm is infectious. She is a person who has been gifted by this incredible beauty. Kangna has no ego and no inhibition in portraying any emotion which is something very rare in our industry. I had a great time working with her and partying with Kangna. Those were the times I will cherish forever. All lovers have to face the music before they get married. Did you go through some tough days before you got married to your wife in real life, Suzanne Roshan? Well, there was one aspect that had to be accomplished before I got married to Suzanne. When I was dating her, I always told her that I wanted to be an actor and I don't know if I can be successful. I told her that I might not be able to give her that life that we enjoy because of our parents. It will be a different story once we get married. Even a vacation in India might be an expensive gamble. You never know what happens with the life of an actor. I knew I would probably not be in a mindset to celebrate a marriage if I was not successful. But there was never a worry for me because I was completely in love with Suzanne. She has complete faith in me. I often say this and I mean it - I would not have become an actor if it was not for Suzanne. If she had not blindfolded me and pushed me in front of the camera. I would not have become an actor if it was not for Suzanne Anurag Basu is the first director to direct a film with you under your father's production house, Film Kraft. How different was it not to see your father behind the directors chair? There was never a moment where I thought of it being something that was out of the ordinary. Everything happened at such an organic pace. I have to applaud my father's efforts in striving to keep growing as a creative man. Kites was his subject and he wanted to hand it over to a young mind like Anurag Basu to see how he could've directed it, and therefore have that as an access point to grow as a creative man himself. Hrithik Roshan Is there a director hidden somewhere inside Hrithik Roshan, the actor? (laughs) People keep saying that to me. A director is not only about having talent and knowing what is wrong and what is right. I do have that faculty in my brain where I can visualise and help in creating suitable moments or to give the right kind of suggestions. But all that comes from me as an actor. To direct, you have to be able to conceive, you have to be able to write, you have to lead and motivate hundreds of people. The last time we saw you in an ensemble film was in 2001, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. When do we see you repeat the magic? Pretty soon. I won't name the film or the star cast but it's going to be an insane ensemble film. Are you having a separation anxiety on Kites as we finish off this interview? Not an anxiety. But any film that I've been so honest and close with, I miss it when it gets over. It happened when I did Koi Mil Gaya and it will happen when I complete my next film Guzaarish. There are certain roles that your heart goes out into. Kites is an evolution when it comes to me as an actor. Kites is a landmark film. I will never be the same actor again in my life. 'Kooke' girl Antara graduates from Genelia to Katrina

Antara Mitra Antara Mitra - Does the name ring a bell? Not really. And no one - whether the singer or the audience - can be blamed for that. After all she is one of those newbie singers who has just stepped into the world of playback singing and sung two numbers that are out and out different from each other. As a Bollywood follower, it is impossible to miss the track 'Bheegi Bheegi' from the film Raajneeti which is playing on music channels 24X7. The voices behind this song picturised on Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are Mohit Chauhan and, as you would have guessed by now, Antara Mitra. However, what is difficult to guess is the fact that she is the same girl who had sung 'Kooke Kooke' [Life Partner] last year. Yes, the same song (picturised on Genelia D'Souza) where the brief given to Antara was - 'Sing it so bad that people would love it'. "That was the most unconventional start that any playback singer could have ever vouched for", laughs Antara when reminded of the incident that paved the way for her career in Bollywood, "Dada (as she fondly calls Pritam) gave me those two lines of 'Kooke' and asked me to go 'besura'. I asked that 'Dada, are you really serious?'. Even when he said yes, I couldn't believe him. He explained to me the situation but it required quite a few takes before I could really go completely off key. I was scared and asked 'dada' if this was actually the right start for a newcomer. He assured me that I won't regret singing the song. The way 'Kooke' turned so popular; I had no reasons not to believe in 'dada' thereafter." However, the situation was entirely different once Pritam offered Antara a chance to sing 'Bheegi Bheegi'. "The moment I heard that song, I told 'dada' that this is one of his best compositions ever created", says the 21 year old singer who hails from Kolkota and has been stationed in Mumbai for past 5 years, "He is always over critical about his compositions and was still not too sure about 'Bheegi Bheegi'. However, even as the song still remained to be mixed, I promised 'dada' that it would be one of his most acclaimed numbers." As things stand today, Antara's promise has turned true as 'Bheegi Bheegi' has seen instant acclaim coming its way. Not just has the song turned out to be quite popular in quick time, it has also enhanced the graph of Raajneeti which till a fortnight ago was looking like an out and out political drama sans any song and dance relief. However, the presence of 'Bheegi Bheegi' coupled with Antara's wonderful job behind the mike has made many stand up and notice the fresh appeal that the music album has brought to fore now. "For someone who has been mentored exceedingly well by 'dada', word 'thanks' would be too small in comparison", says Antara who was one of the Top-5 finalists in the reality show Indian Idol, "Singers don't quite get a second chance in the industry but Hindi music industry seems to be embracing me well. Pritam da has been extremely patient with me and his 'Bheegi Bheegi' is something that I would cherish forever."

"Imran Khan and I became good friends during Delhi Belly" - Vir Das

Vir Das Vir Das' much-delayed Aamir Khan production Delhi Belly with Imran Khan is finally going to release. Das basking in the favourable reviews of Badmaash Company says Delhi Belly will be released in the first quarter of 2011, a fact that even director Abhinay Deo now blissfully into his second directorial venture Game, is not aware of. Now that Vir Das is doing mainstream Hindi films, he is unlikely to make those stinging savage stand-up jokes about Salman and other Bollywood biggies. This has not gone down with his fans. A lady has threatened to come after the stand-up comic virtuoso turned film actor Vir Das with a butcher's knife for acting in a Bollywood film after savagely satirizing all things about Bollywood on stage for years. And this is just one of the innumerable hate messages and calls Vir has received ever since he made an impact as the blimp with the roving eye in Badmaash Company this week. Chuckles the amused actor, "Those who have been watching me do stand-up comedy for years think I've sold out to Bollywood because I'm now working in the very system that I've been religiously mocking and demolishing on stage. But the fact of the matter is, I was I am and I will continue to be a stand-up comedian and I will continue to make jokes on the Indian movie industry." Vir admits Bollywood biggies have a sense of humour about themselves. His favourite brunt of joke used to be George Bush and not Salman Khan, as rumoured. "Obama doesn't render himself to the same humour as Bush. So my new best friend is Tiger Woods. And of course IPL jokes," says Vir who is clearly steering away from taking potshots at Bollywood after Badmaash Company. Vir Das Says Vir, "I started as a stand-up comedian and that's what I remain at heart. I haven't forgotten my beginnings in Chicago in 2004 as a dog-walker and a doorman at a hotel. So when we were back in the US to shoot for Badmaash Company, I'd shoot the whole day and then head for the local clubs to do my stand-up acts for two hours almost every evening." It's a difficult choice for Vir. Even as he gets acceptance as an actor in Bollywood, he's expected to go up on stage and continue to jokingly abuse Bollywood. Vir is amazed by the impact he has made in Badmaash Company. "When I signed the film, I knew it was a Shahid Kapoor film. I had seen how central he had been to his earlier films and expected this one to be no different. But I was pleasantly surprised when my role turned out to be so substantial." Aamir Khan's Delhi Belly is his next release, and Vir is confident he'd make an impact. There seems to be as much of a bonding with Imran Khan as there was with Shahid Kapoor during Badmaash Company. Says Vir, "I can't talk about my role. But I play a character diametrically opposite to the one in Badmaash Company. Imran and I became good friends during Delhi Belly. We're both comedy fans and Mac junkies. We had an insane amount of fun doing this film. We all knew we'd never have an experience like this again." Producer Aamir Khan didn't make things easy . Vir had to undergo auditions repeatedly before he was selected. Says Vir, "I auditioned nine times in one year. Then every week I'd read some bigger Bollywood actor had bagged my role. So by the time I got in the room with Aamir, I was on Cloud 9. He's nothing less than a genius." Vir says there was no interference from Aamir on the sets. "Aamir was heavily into Delhi Belly during auditions and the worskshops. After that he kind of set us loose." Travelling extensively to cities all over for his stand-up comedy Vir says he has had no time to get himself into a steady relationship. "Of course I've had relationships and girlfriends. But I'm dying for the day when I can say about someone that we're just good friends."

No screening of Lamhaa in Kashmir

Click above for movie stills The volatile situation in Kashmir has created a strange and difficult problem for Lamhaa. The film based on the problem of Kashmiri militancy is all set for release on July 16. Much as the director Rahul Dholakia wants to take the hard-hitting political drama for its initial screening into the Valley, there is no way he can do so for the simple reason that there are no proper and operational movie theatres in Kashmir. And Rahul is at his wit's end. "Lamhaa was made for the people of Kashmir. It's about their life, their anguish and their politics. How can I not show it to the people of Kashmir? The film belongs to them. It is unimaginable for me that the rest of the world would watch Lamhaa and not the Kashmiris." Dholakia now plans to take the print and projection equipment and screen the film at key centres of Jammu & Kashmir on his own. "There's no option but to follow an unconventional method to get the film screened in the Valley." Although several situations and characters in Lamhaa are based on real Kashimiri politics, the film's makers have been advised to play down the reality card. Apparently, producer Bunty Walia and leading man Sanjay Dutt have been told by their school- mate Omar Abdullah not to play up the Kashmiri card. A hush-hush screening of Lahmaa is being planned for father and son Farooq and Omar Abdullah. Says Rahul Dholakia, "It isn't as though I'm playing down or distancing myself from the reality of the Valley. But considering volatile the situation it's better not to get any section of Indian politics hostile about our film." To de-accentuate the political side the film, the producer now plans various glamour events connected with Lamhaa including a fashion show featuring Sanjay Dutt, Bipasha Basu, Kunal Kapoor and Anupam Kher at the forthcoming IIFA awards in Colombo. The actors in Kashmiri attire will walk the ramp with India's top models. Dholakia hopes that by glamorizing Lamhaa they're not downsizing the film's powerful message about peace in the Valley.

"I was trying to prove to too many people" - Arjun Rampal

Arjun Rampal Now that Housefull has got some good acclaim coming for it, Arjun Rampal is back on the scene close to two years after the release of Rock On. He is also looking forward to the release of Raajneeti this June where he has a pivotal role to play. However, there was a time, till before the release of Don - The Chase Begins Again, when he didn't really have much going for him. He was being called names and there wasn't much impetus in his career. "Well, as for people calling me names then, well it is a trait amongst many out there who like to mock others when they are down and out. All I could afford to do amidst such talks was stick to what I knew best and work harder", says Arjun, "Thankfully, I got an opportunity to learn from a lot of people even though I didn't have people from the industry who were there to advise me. " He admits though that he was trying too hard, so much so that he indeed missed out on moments where he could afford to be original. "That's true; I was trying to prove to too many people and I should not have done that. If at all there was anyone to whom I needed to do that, it should have been me. Sometimes there have been films of mine that haven't worked but I don't regret that because some of them did help me to learn a lot", says Arjun, "Like for example The Last Lear which was not a big commercial success. But then what also cannot be ignored is the fact that performances were critically acclaimed. The film also taught me a lot; especially the way I did scenes with Mr. Bachchan. Now these are the kind of things that you take home." For someone who is quite serious about cherishing moments spent during the making of the film, he did get into a different zone for Housefull. The film was not only designed as a complete full-on entertainer, Arjun's character was also the only one in the film which was relatively serious and belonged to the no-nonsense world. Laughs Arjun, "Housefull was for sure a very different kind of experience. Both Sajid (Khan) and I are cricket freaks and that is how we became friends. Then of course I did Om Shanti Om with his sister Farah and he really liked me there. He saw something special and told me that he wanted to do good work with me. I was of course game for it." Now that Raajneeti is next in line, a career which has stabilised over last three years and a National Award under his belt, what is it that Arjun Rampal aspires in future? Is there any guideline that he has defined for himself, now that audience's expectation would be far more from him in his future outings? "My funda of selecting a film is simple. Whenever I choose a film, the question that I ask myself is - 'Would I go into a theatre to watch a movie like this instead of buying a DVD?' If the answer is 'yes' then I am game for it", smiles Arjun, "Only after I am convinced with the subject do I look at other aspects that go into a particular film. I can proudly say that I was very convinced in a similar manner for Housefull, Raajneeti and after that remake of Stepmom. I strongly felt that even if I wasn't a part of them, I would have still gone and watched them in the theaters."

Sanjay Dutt meets Narendra Modi to discuss setting up of film studio in Gujarat

Narendra Modi, Sanjay Dutt Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had a special guest on Monday and it was none other than our very own 'Munnabhai' Sanjay Dutt. Before you start wondering whether this was some high prolife political meeting, let us assure you that it was not. Sanjay had in fact gone to meet Modi to discuss the prospect of setting up a film studio in the state of Gujarat. Sanju Baba apparently has been mighty impressed with the way Gujarat has developed as a state over the last couple of years. He has also been toying with this idea of starting a state-of-the-art film studio for a while now. However with escalating costs and lack of spaces in Mumbai being a problem, Sanju thought of discussing the possibility of setting up the studio in the neighbouring state of Gujarat. If this dream turns into a reality, you will suddenly see a host of Bollywood bigwigs making a dash to Gujarat every now and then.

Check Out: Deepika's look in Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey

Deepika Padukone After the not so encouraging response to his last film What's Your Raashee? , Ashutosh Gowariker is making sure he gets it all right with his next Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey. The film starring Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles is a period film on the 1930's Chittagong Uprising and is based on Manini Chatterjee's book 'Do And Die'. While Abhishek's look in the film was revealed a few months ago, here is a sneak peek at Deepika's get-up in the film. As can be seen, Deepika is seen wearing a traditional Bengali saree designed by none other than Neeta Lulla. Says Ashutosh Gowariker about Deepika's look, "Deepika portrays the character of Kalpana Datta. This is one of my favourite images of the movie. It showcases the grit and determination of the women of 1930's. These were times when women were not allowed to participate in freedom movements. But here is a lady who braved all odds and took the gun in her hands to fight for the country." Well, this certainly is a complete departure for Deepika who has hitherto been seen in a glamorous avatar in most of her films. How far will audiences accept her in this get-up is something we will have to wait and watch.

Shah Rukh plays doting dad in Pepsodent's latest campaign

Shahrukh Khan Pepsodent will be launching the 'Papa & Pappu (P&P)' campaign to encourage fathers to spend quality time with their children and make brushing more fun. Bollywood superstar and a devoted father in real life, Shah Rukh Khan has been signed on as a brand ambassador to lead by example and drive the campaign message. The campaign appeals to fathers to spend just 2 minutes with their kids to brush their teeth. With this campaign, Pepsodent attempts to make brushing, an otherwise mundane activity, into an interesting event where fathers can spend time with their children. The TV campaign revolves around two characters, Papa (Shah Rukh Khan) and Pappu, a father and son duo who make brushing enjoyable and exciting. The advertisements will take viewers through the life journey of Papa who uses humour and storytelling to educate his son - Pappu on the importance of two minute brushing and killing up to 95 percent germs. Papa & Pappu is a simple concept, inspired from realities of the modern lives where both parents are working, and they do not have enough time or energy to play with or educate their kids on oral health, a serious and generally ignored health concern in India. With hectic lifestyles, involving parents to brush their teeth with their children is beneficial to nurturing good oral health habits at an early age. When a routine becomes an enjoyable experience, both children and parents stop treating it as a task and instead look forward to spending time with each other. The result, children are more likely to adopt these habits as part of their daily routine and continue throughout their adult life. Srinandan Sundaram, Category Head - Oral Care, Hindustan Unilever Limited says, "The parent-child relationship is increasingly a concern and currently the focus for building better and healthy families. In this modern age, we see parents engrossed in work and missing out on engaging with their children. Through the Papa & Pappu campaign, Pepsodent attempts to put forth this issue and reach out to parents, encouraging them to spend quality time with their family while instilling health habits in their children." He adds, "Shah Rukh Khan is the best choice for 'Papa' in the campaign as this super successful actor also practices what he preaches. He is the perfect role model of a father who finds ways to spend time with his own children away from his active schedule and stardom."

Anupam Kher to feature in Pankaj Kapoor's Mausam

Anupam Kher Anupam Kher will be seen yet again with Shahid Kapoor in Mausam. Kher has been asked to join the unit in Edinburgh. The busy actor says, "I'm yet to get a clear indication of my role. But the fact that Pankaj is directing is enough incentive for me. I'm very fond of him as an actor and as a human being. And I also like his son Shahid a lot. In fact in his brief career, I've played Shahid's father thrice (in Sooraj Barjatya's Vivah, Dil Bole Hadippa and Badmaash Company)." This time, though, Anupam isn't playing Shahid's father. It is apparently the role that Pankaj Kapoor had earmarked for himself. Now with direction proving a full-time occupation, Pankaj would much rather concentrate on direction and let the others do the acting. However, the dates for Mausam are still being worked out. Anupam now flies out to the Lake District in England for a walk-on talkathon on the BBC's prestigious business talk show Peschartdt's People. The internationally-known host Michael Peschardt is known to grill the world's most authoritative entertainers and academicians including, from India, N. Narayana Murthy, Vijay Mallya and Amitabh Bachchan. Says Anupam, "I like representing our country on international platforms. Especially on a non-film based platform. I think I've moved ahead of being just an actor." Considering the response to it, does Anupam feel a sense of relief for opting out of Gurinder Chadha's It's A Wonderful Afterlife when his wife was offered what he thought was an insubstantial role? Retorts Anupam, "Not at all. Gurinder gave me my first major international break in Bend It Like Beckham. How can I forget that? Our relationship goes far beyond one film. I'm sure we'll be working together again shortly."

Kites team bites nails as ash clouds hover over London Premiere

For a while it seemed a lost opportunity for the hyper-anxious team of the Kites cast and production members who were in New York for the premiere on Sunday. The team comprising of Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori, Sussanne Roshan, Rakesh Roshan, wife Pinky Roshan, Anurag Basu and his wife, Rajesh Roshan and his wife plus senior members of the Reliance Big Pictures team were supposed to fly out of New York after the premiere on Monday evening for the London premiere at Leicester Square on Tuesday. That's when the ash clouds struck again and almost all the flights to Europe had to be cancelled or diverted. On Monday morning the Kites team waited anxiously for the verdict. Not being able to reach London in team for the premiere would have meant huge losses. However the team arrived in London from New York late Monday evening. Sanjeev Lamba, the CEO of Reliance Big Picture, says "Flights carrying all of us landed on Monday evening. We were in American and British airlines. Both landed safely and on time."
