Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia) will be writing the script. Clearly, Page has matured from relationships primarily based on orange tic tacs. [HR] Back to Black: Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) will be playing the villain Yaz in Men in Black III, which also stars Will Smith, Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones. Is it too much to hope for a third-act "Yaz's Lament" ballad? Probably. [Deadline] Mom Dramz: New Line is in talks with Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot and Jill Messick to produce Mean Moms, which will bear “some resemblance” to 2004’s classic Mean Girls. Dara and Chad Creasey will be writing the script, an adaptation of Rosalind Wiseman’s 2006 parenting advice book. The film will begin with a family moving to a new town, where a happily married mother of two is faced with the “cutthroat world of competitive parenting.” Let's hope she packed pink for Wednesdays. [Variety] On Taylor's Tail: Alfred Molina is joining the drama Abduction, starring Taylor Lautner as a young man who discovers he was kidnapped a child and is searching for his real parents. Molina will play a CIA agent who is continually “one step behind” in an effort to bring the teenager in alive. Where he will force him to sign a t-shirt for his daughter, before letting him go. [Deadline] Wait Almost Over: The 11th album from The Roots, How I Got Over, will be released on June 22 after several delays. The disc will feature a Joanna Newsom sample and a cameo from My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. Drummer ?uestlove revealed the info via Twitter, his favorite means of communication. [Pitchfork] Temple The Queen: Juno Temple is in negotiations to play the queen in the 3D version of The Three Musketeers directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (not to be confused with Doug Liman’s competing upcoming version). The cast already includes Logan Lerman, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Matthew Macfayden, Christoph Waltz and Milla Jovovich. Temple has appeared in Greenberg, and recently filmed Dirty Girl, but we have a feeling she got this role because of her regal last name. Yep, definitely because of that. [HR] Paradis Lost: Vanessa Paradis will star in Café de flore, a “time-spanning love story” directed by Jean-Marc Vallee (The Young Victoria) in his return to French-language films. The movie will include two stories: one about a mother of a child with Down syndrome in the 1960s, and the other about a present-day couple. But what emerged from these scattered races was a mixed bag of results, really. If you want evidence for the historic levels of anti-establishment rage, it's there. But if you want evidence that anti-establishment rage isn't as powerful as some make it out to be, that's there, too. Feel the Anti-Incumbent/Anti-Establishment Wrath!: In Pennsylvania's Democratic senate primary, Arlen Specter, a 30-year senate veteran, was convincingly defeated by progressive two-term congressman and former Navy admiral Joe Sestak. In Arkansas's Democratic senate primary, incumbent moderate Blanche Lincoln was forced into a run-off after basically tying Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter in a three-way race, a performance that fell well below expectations for her. And in Kentucky's Republican senate primary, Rand Paul trounced party favorite Trey Grayson with the help of the tea party movement. The Whole Anti-Incumbent/Anti-Establishment Thing Is Overblown: Sure, Specter lost, but what do you expect of a lifetime Republican Specter only became a Democrat last year running in a Democratic primary? His party-switch and former life in the GOP was much more of a factor than his incumbency. Paul's victory in Kentucky only shows that offspring of Ron Paul will never want for passionate grassroots support. Oh, and also in Pennsylvania, in a special House election to fill the deceased John Murtha's seat, the victorious Democrat, Mark Critz, was a former aide to Murtha. It doesn't get much more nepotistic and insider-y than that. The funding was expected to be included as part of a Office of Management Budget package released last week to keep 9/11 treatment programs running. But when the package was announced, there was no support for a survey of responders on the Sept. 11 health registry or for a study examining the extent to which the exposure to Ground Zero toxins may have raised the chances of those working on the site of getting cancer. Several state reps wasted no time in hounding the administration about the withheld money: "We are very concerned that OMB did not approve the additional funds necessary to complete a third wave survey (of responders) that would allow us to know how this population across the country is faring and what medical issues they are experiencing," they wrote in a letter. "We would also like to know why funding was not released for the vitally important cancer study that would help determine if those exposed are facing an increase in cancers, as is expected by many in the medical community.”

But Outsourced co-star Diedrich Bader (a Drew Carey Show veteran) maintains that it wasn't irony that got his show its time slot, it was good ol' American brute force. "We had a softball game that I thought would be friendly, the plan was to let the winner take the time slot, but we got to the third inning and then we just started fighting each other," he told us at the NBC upfront. "We ended up just kicking their asses." He pointed to his castmates. "They're short, but they're scrappy. That's why [Parks] had to step off. Half of them are in the hospital." Parks and Rec's Nick Offerman, also at the event, denied the existence of a softball game but said, "I would have loved an arm-wrestling match." Yvettte Nicole Brown, who plays Shirley on Community, was just happy none of this affected her show. "I'm going to welcome them in," she said of the Outsourced cast. "They're part of the family. I think we're all the same kind of comedy and whoever they rotate in can handle that inning of the game." And Offerman, whose show has to now wait in the NBC wings until someone gets pulled, is taking the high road. "As much as I would love to haze anyone, TV is such a rough business, I think hugs are the order of the day," he said. "Welcoming handshakes." With any luck, the unexpected time off might even give him a chance to join his wife, Megan Mullally, for a guest shot on Party Down. "They actually tried to get me to do a couple episodes but I couldn’t because of my show. But as soon as I get a chance, I’ll be sneaking in there to make an ass of myself in some way," he said. If it happens, Offerman said that because of his obligations to Parks and Rec, he'd have to be a one-time party guest or host, "unless I become a waiter and immediately get killed off." Online (US) - Top Stories | 18 May 2010 | 5:45 pm Vulture Exclusive: How Robin Hood Nearly Destroyed the Russell/Ridley Relationship![]() Many have noted that in the current version of Robin Hood, now out in theaters, Robin Hood does not actually rob from the rich or give to the poor. Perhaps that's because in the insanely expensive development process for the Russell Crowe movie, the idea of redistribution of wealth hit a little too close to home for the filmmakers: Universal spent $6.7 million in scriptwriting costs just to eventually produce the complete opposite of the original story they'd intended to tell. And it was costly in other ways, too: the making of this epic would cause the near-splintering of one of Hollywood's most successful actor/director partnerships, Crowe and Ridley Scott. The new movie might not live up to the famous Nottingham legend, but the behind the scenes tale of what went wrong should certainly be part of Hollywood lore. It began with an original spec script called Nottingham, written by Sleeper Cell creators Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reif, the latter of whom had studied medieval history in college. It was, technically, a light-hearted Robin Hood movie, but with a clever twist: What if the infamous Sheriff of Nottingham had actually been a good guy, a dedicated public servant who’d just suffered from bad PR? What if Robin Hood was really kind of a jerk? What if they both had a thing for Marian? And what if the whole story were told from the perspective of this intriguing Sheriff? Most studios and producers immediately passed on the Nottingham script when it hit their in-boxes in January 2007. It was set in the 12th century (expensive!), it wasn’t based on a toy, board game or action figure (Robin who?), and so far, it had no big-name talent interested. But four days after the spec script went out - an eternity in Hollywood development - it caught fire: Bryan Singer called, hoping to direct it at Warner Bros., and Jon Turtelbaub (National Treasure) expressed interest in making it at Disney. Suddenly, George Freeman, Russell Crowe’s agent at William Morris — where Reif and Voris were also repped — was interested, too: Was this something the Aussie Oscar-winner could star in? Absolutely! By the next Monday, Crowe had read the Nottingham script and attached himself as the Sheriff. With him in place and several hot directors circling, studio executives who’d already passed were suddenly saying they wanted to read Nottingham again. A bidding war erupted: New Line Cinema made an offer, and so did Warner Bros. But Crowe had just made the hit American Gangster at Universal with Imagine, and wanted to make another film with producer Brian Grazer, so Universal agree to pay a whopping $1 million dollars to acquire the script, and another half million if it got made. In April, Scott, who’d directed Crowe in the Best Picture-winning Gladiator, as well as A Good Year and American Gangster, came aboard to direct. Crowe, on a conference call with Imagine, Universal, and his agents, was told that Scott’s involvement would give him a chance to make a sequel to Gladiator - without having to make an actual sequel to Gladiator. At this, Crowe knew he was definitely in. A month earlier, an ecstatic Voris and Reif had been told that they were being flown down to Australia to meet with Crowe and go over their script at the actor's farm. But as soon as Scott's arrival on the project was made public, the writers abruptly stopped getting phone calls from the studio. Their reservations to Australia were put on hold. And then, as usually happens in Hollywood, the pair of screenwriters found out they’d been fired not by being told, but by hearing that there was an open writing assignment at Universal; it was for a project called Robin Hood. And now began the bizarre process of paying three other top-shelf screenwriters millions of dollars more to completely remove the very idea that supposedly made Nottingham worth acquiring for $1.5 million. Actually, scratch that: it actually began almost the moment Crowe said yes. Crowe was eager to make the movie, but neither he nor Scott liked the Nottingham script’s unconventional focus on the Sheriff...which sounds a bit like saying, "I love this Crying Game, but can't the lady just be a lady?" And so the director turned to screenwriter Brian Helgeland (LA Confidential, 8 Mile) to morph Nottingham into a more traditional Robin Hood tale. (Interviewed in the Sunday Times of London in April of this year, Scott told a reporter that the original premise was “fucking ridiculous” and that “you’d end up spending 80% of the publicity budget explaining why it was Nottingham and not just Robin Hood.”) Hired in the spring of 2008, Helgeland rewrote the script to tell the tale of Robin assuming the identity of the Sheriff of Nottingham after seeing him slain in battle. Hey, he's the medieval Don Draper! When Helgeland turned in his draft, Scott still didn’t care for the results. And so, Universal tried again, hiring British screenwriter Paul Webb (who had been writing on Steven Spielberg's Abraham Lincoln biopic). Over the summer he made the film’s tone even more serious, according to insiders who read his draft. Crowe and Universal hoped that it would satisfy Scott, and that shooting might still be able to begin in early October 2008, just enough time to make a planned November 2009 release date. But Scott was unhappy with Webb’s draft. With a Screen Actors Guild strike looming, and the release date blown, real tension began to mount between Crowe and Scott. Their familiar bonhomie had been replaced by frosty, terse exchanges. “There was a feeling of ‘Get it right already!” recalls one insider, “They were always speaking, but barely.” Said another source who watched the relationship deteriorate, “There were a lot of forces who all believed they were trying to do the right thing." Under pressure, the director turned once again to Helgeland for another draft at the start of 2009: In it, Robin would not impersonate the Sheriff, but rather a slain knight from Nottingham, and would fall in love with the knight's widow, Marian. Now, Scott had finally gotten the story he wanted, but at a fairly high price to his personal relationship with Crowe, and to William Morris, too. The actor and director shared one of the agency's top agents, George Freeman, but things got so tense that to save WMA's relationship with Crowe, its president, Dave Wirtshafter, had to step in and help with Scott's business. After all, Freeman - who’d long juggled representing both men but had started out as Crowe’s former publicist — knew his loyalties had to at least appear to lie with his impatient and hot-tempered $20 million per film star. When production started in April 2009 on what Universal Pictures was calling — even at that late date — An Untitled Robin Hood Adventure, the bickering over plot was mostly laid aside. Yet after all that work to cement the story, there was still a lingering problem with the script: the dialogue. The Nottingham-cum-Robin Hood script, having been repeatedly sawed apart and welded back together by so many, had a hero whose speech (somewhat unsurprisingly) suggested a multiple personality disorder. So, with the clock ticking, Universal hired still another Brit playwright, the Oscar-winning Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), paying him hundreds of thousands of dollars to work as an on-set dialogue polisher, and pushing the film's final screenwriting tab to a whopping $6.7 million. So again, for those keeping score: As the cameras rolled, Stoppard was rewriting Helgeland's rewrite of Webb's rewrite of Helgeland's rewrite of Voris and Reif's original script, which started out with the complete inverse of the present concept. (Voris and Reif receive a shared "story by" credit on the film - the least amount of credit legally allowed for an original screenplay by the Writers Guild of America.) For all that work and expense, Crowe and Scott have failed to improve on either the last Robin Hood movie to come along (1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) or their own Gladiator: As BoxOfficeMojo.com recently pointed out, Robin Hood had a $36.1 million opening; when the other films are adjusted for ticket price inflation, Prince of Thieves $25.6 million opening is equal to $48 million today, and Gladiator's opening would equal over $51 million today. Amusingly enough, the New York Times would ultimately call Robin Hood a "crowded, lumbering film" — likely without realizing exactly how apt a description that really was. Today, at the ABC upfront, Steve McPherson, that network's entertainment president, took to the stage in a gray pinstriped suit and a dark blue shirt with its top button noticeably undone. Not to read too much into the stylistic variations of white dudes who are unofficially known as “suits,” but this speaks to a larger contrast between the two network’s upfronts. Whereas yesterday, NBC seemed anxious, uptight, buttoned-up, today ABC seemed overconfident, overly casual, and rushed. Certainly, ABC put on a more relaxed, enjoyable show than NBC, but not nearly as good a one as Fox, which hit the mark between seriousness (that PowerPoint) and confidence (Glee!). Upfronts are all about impressions: until ABC's shows look as good as Fox’s did yesterday, McPherson might consider a tie. The presentation at Avery Fisher Hall got started with some words from Disney/ABC TV Group president Anne Sweeney, who talked mostly about how ABC is on the iPad, like she was secretly in the deleted scenes from a Modern Family episode. Then she introduced a clip of the network’s new head of sales, Geri Wang, running the Wipeout obstacle course. Yes, you read that correctly: An executive at ABC was convinced, as part of a joke about “prepping herself for this really challenging upfront,” to put on undereye paint, a bathing suit, and a life preserver, and run through a challenge course, in which she ended up plummeting into a pool of mud. Somehow, despite the fact that we all just heard a joke about Wang getting smacked “right in the demos,” she seemed impressive, like she would have absolutely destroyed on debate team. Unfortunately, she also talked about the iPad. Wang introduced McPherson and his unbuttoned shirt, looking for all the world like the host of The Bachelor. He seemed relaxed and cracked a joke about how, “If there was no Shonda Rhimes there would be no McDreamy, no McSteamy, there would just be McPherson. No one wants to see that show.” People laughed. Then he launched into an overview of the schedule, which is when things started to get weird. ABC’s three main goals this year were 1) Attack at 10 2) Add more comedy and 3) Create “Event TV.” Almost all of ABC’s new shows fall into one of these categories. Detroit 187, Off the Map (which will air at 10 after Desperate Housewives starting midseason), The Whole Truth and Body of Proof (which airs at 9 on Fridays) are in the first group. The three new comedies are in the second. No Ordinary Family and My Generation are in the third. In other words, ABC chose to present their schedule as containing two series you should make an appointment to see, and seven shows you could just as easily not. No Ordinary Family and My Generation “swing for the fences,” while the other four dramas attack at 10? This was just the most notable of the strangely underminey things McPherson said during his presentation. When he introduced Matthew Perry’s Mr. Sunshine, he said Perry wrote, produced and acted in it, but “the best thing he did is cast Allison Janney at his boss.” The clip later, bore this out, but still, dis. McPherson also said, the network really thought Body of Proof was going to help Dana Delaney, a well known actress who has been working for over 20 years, “break out.” If you say so. Then McPherson introduced clips from the four dramas that don’t really matter. Unlike Fox and NBC, which went through the schedule night by night and paused between each trailer, ABC ran a consecutive clip reel. This meant that the audience applause was cut off when the next trailer came on, contributing to the sense that ABC was in a hurry and too cool to care about what the crowd thought. The trailer for Detroit 187, about cops in Detroit, looked not as good as Fox’s similarly gritty Ride Along, and used two Eminem songs. Legal drama The Whole Truth was more warmly received, with Rob Morrow and Joely Richardson duking it out as the defense and prosecution on one case. Richardson has asked out of her contract and will be recast, so maybe the voice over guy shouldn't have hammered home that “Rob Morrow and Joely Richardson star.” Those two shows were followed by trailer for Off The Map, the Shonda Rhimes show in the Amazon and Body Of Proof, Dana Delaney’s "break out" vehicle. After that, McPherson came back out to explain that he was saving the two dramas that actually matter to be introduced by Matthew Fox. Fox came on stage, he and McPherson shared a brotastic hug, and then a clip of the Lost cast members talking about the series played: “We all went to a bar when the numbers came out, that was the first night I really believed I could throw away my boxes,” Josh Holloway said. “When I read the ending, I was pretty moved,” Jorge Garcia said. “I’ll miss John Locke like hell,” Terry O’Quinn said. Fox, looking a little misty, then introduced the shows that matter, No Ordinary Family, about a family that gets super powers, and Generation Me, a faux documentary series about a group of high schoolers who graduated in 2000 and are being re-interviewed 10 years later. (The music in this trailer, for a show set in 2000 and 2010, contained Buffalo Springfield’s ‘60s anthem “For What it’s Worth,” for what anachronistic musical choices are worth.) As McPherson more or less predicted, they did look better than four dramas that don’t matter! Fancy that! Then came the historical highlight of the show: Jimmy Kimmel, who opened, “We know you have money this year, so don’t act poor.” After that, he made an uncomfortably homophobic joke at Fox’s expense (the network, not the actor) —“What did you think of the Fox upfront. Is it me or did Fox come out of the closet yesterday?” Yikes. He did better later, saying of the decision to put Glee on after the Superbowl, is NBC “Trying to set record for most number of drunken guys saying 'what the fuck is this?'” He also laid into NBC: “ Jeff Zucker is building a 20 ton concrete dome that he is planning to lower down onto the containment zone that is the fall schedule.” Of the decision to cancel Law and Order and pick up Law and Order: LA: “The last time they moved a show that had been on NBC for 20 years from New York to LA, it ended up as the lead in for George Lopez.” In fairness, Kimmel reserved some of his vitriol for the home team: “[McPherson] said we’re looking for shows that break the mold. And then he introduced another medical drama from Shonda Rhimes.” He ended by saying, “Network television has been in flux. In fact, we’re completely fluxed and we want to give you a good hard fluxing.” Big applause. Following that palate cleanser, it was time for the Modern Family clip reel and all the adults from that show to come out on stage! Yay! Then it was time for them to introduce the three new ABC comedies that do not look nearly as good as their show! Not so yay! Better Together had a glaring laugh track; Allison Janney was the funniest part of the Mr Sunshine clip; Perfect Endings contained jokes about the Indigo Girls, bitter, single ladies, and the ancient Budweiser “Wazzup” shtick. The audience was polite, but not overly enthusiastic. And, then, after one more uncomfortable joke in which Steve McPherson undermined his own wife, by pretending to be married to Sofia Vergara, it was done. McPherson, without his tie, exited stage right. The anchorwoman will step away from her eponymous hour-long 8 p.m. program as soon as the network can find a replacement, Mediaite reported. Brown asked to be released from her contract months ago, after having asked to be moved to the 7 p.m. hour (eventually occupied by John King, who has proven a weak lead-in for her). While Brown did better than her predecessor, Paula Zahn, the Times has the ratings breakdown:
Nielsen has Brown down 38 percent in total viewers from this time last year. Her departure will likely be a blow to CNN, which has been at the receiving end of a lot of (no doubt unwanted) public advice on how to "fix" itself lately. But it also presents another opportunity for some outside-of-the-box programming, which wouldn't be forced to compete so directly with O'Reilly and Olbermann. Brown issued a refreshingly honest statement explaining her departure, citing her show's low ratings as the impetus for her decision and claiming she owed it to herself and CNN to "get out of the way so that CNN can try something else": "I knew on the day that I accepted my job at CNN that a ratings victory at 8pm was going to be a formidable challenge. As I have been told over and over, this is the toughest timeslot in cable news. That is obviously due to the incredible talents of my 8pm competitors. I have also always marveled whenever a television anchor says that he or she pays no attention to ratings. I'm pretty sure the last time any anchor could honestly ignore ratings was well before I was born. Of course I pay attention to ratings. And simply put, the ratings for my program are not where I would like them to be. It is largely for this reason that I am stepping down as anchor of CNN's Campbell Brown. Macy's, JCPenney, and Target are among those companies recruiting the most on college campuses. However, specialized fashion students will have to compete with students who majored in things that have nothing to do with the business of clothing. And people with MBAs!

Her and Her Gavone Husband.”
Teresa Guidice took her girls Melania and Gia shopping. Their father drives them to Gia’s big fashion show, where he proceeds to call her ugly and she cries. Meanwhile, Danielle Staub is asking her 9 year old for relationship advice. Danielle’s oldest daughter Christine walks in a Rebecca Minkoff fashion show, where she eats 2 pieces of melon and faints. Dina Manzo gets saged, Caroline Manzo does basically nothing, and does Jacqueline Laurita. In other words, notttt thattt much happened. Still, my Mother, Judy Collins, had plenty to say about the episode called Catty-Walk. And here we go: “My Little Hero: Gia” Lemme tell you else I feel bad for: My little hero Gia. What the f*ck is wrong with her father? Ugly?! Did that gavone ever look in the mirror?? Such a lowlife. Such a lowlife. To Gia, particularly that she’s a performer — “You’re ugly and you’re this” — what was that? And she said to her Teresa that he always does that.
Michelle: It looks like through mafia ties, Mom: What happened to the Jewish mafia? Is what I want to know. And how can I join? Really! (laughing) It just seems like a very good business to me in these tough economic times. Seriously. It’s just, it looks better and better to me every day. That’s why I’m going to Italy. I’ll take some mafia lessons. That this ape would put his cute little girl in that kinda mood before she’s supposed to perform in one of the biggest fashion shows in the country… “You’re ugly!” I couldn’t believe he said it. I got so pissed. Teresa is the lowest. Her and her gavone husband. He’s like some kind of italian Guido or something. Don’t write that, I don’t want Italians to get mad. Melania, On the Other Spoiled Child Hand
About a year ago, kids would come in wearing sneakers with the rollerblades in them/ Particularly the Europeans. The kids would roll around in the store – “Excuse me! Can’t skate here! No insurance!” and my manager would literally fall on the floor laughing. They’re driving me nuts, some of these kids, misbehaving, screaming… I give them such dirty looks, you have no idea. (Ed. Note: Wrong, I very much have a vivid idea of those.) OK this one is a 3 year old. But Gia is a sweet girl! Sweet as sugar. Not pretty, but has a personality, so it doesn’t matter. She’s a sweet young girl, in a shoe that they had to literally take a hammer and shove her foot into. And you wanna know something? Even if you ate, who can stand on those shoes for 20 minutes like a freakin’ moron? What is this standing anyway? What is that? It has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. They stood there like a bunch of in a shoe that’s two sizes too small Should I tell you that she’s drop dead gorgeous? And sweet! So is the other one. I don’t understand who raised them. It doesn’t seem like she raised them. she’s such a lowlife. Maybe because of her hard life, God smiled on her with two little girls. Point to one intelligent girl from these New Jersey people, including Dina. Did you see the living room? It looks like “Jekyll and Hyde.” I would feel very uncomfortable in that living room. Dark paintings, no wall exposed, and filled with… I’m telling you it looks like “Jekyll and Hyde.” I would go nuts in a house like this, there’s nothing airy. On Zen Jen Then they had that Zen Jen come in. Took some dry sage and shmeared it around Dina’s beads. Who the hell even knows? This really was one of the most boring episodes. The people in it are empty shells in gorgeous homes! I keep telling you, and you don’t wanna believe me! (Ed. Note: She’s told me once and I’ve always believed her.) This Dina doesn’t even make sense to me, what is she talking? You don’t wanna be somebody’s friend? Don’t be!! You see anybody with a gun to their heads? I haven’t seen anybody. It has to be all concocted from the producers. When you tell somebody you’re on the outs, in real life you’re on the outs! It has to be the producers almost, like, staging this whole scenario. That’s the only way. There is no other way. And now I see next week she is driving to Caroline’s? When the husband said “Danielle is coming over?” But it’s not staged well, because they isolated Danielle. In other words, on the New York Housewives, you have tidbits and fights between this one and that one, so even if it is staged, it’s hard to tell. But here, it’s one against the rest of them. It just doesn’t make sense. I can’t stomach one of them. There is not ONE that I like. Just annoying. In the middle of the show, I’m thinking: What am I watching here?! But you know, I’m addicted to it. I could have watched Raymond, but no, I have to finish to watch this dumbass show. It wasn’t good last year and it’s not good now. The women in California, in New York, they travel, they’re a little more sophisticated. There is nobody sophisticated here. They’re all a bunch of lowlives, really, like Snooki or whatever the f*ck they call the girl on that show. Did you see Snooki on SNL? I don’t even know who she is, but I thought I was gonna sh*t laughing the way he was talking. He was very good. **THE END** Personally, I found the episode insufferably boring. "I’m sure we’ll see her soon," Talley said at the '21' Club, where he gave a lecture framed around Paris fashion at 8 a.m. Talley usually gets up at 6 and had already had his morning smoothie, so this wasn't too early for him. On ANTM he worked mostly in the afternoon, since "it's very rare that Tyra has a 9:30 wake-up call." He said people have expressed interest in putting on the one-man show he's been working on in his downtime. "I don’t have the like, long-range agenda," he added. "I don’t know what I’m doing in 2011 or 2012." He hadn't even planned what he'd say to his audience this morning. "I’m choosing to speak about many things, I don’t know what I’m talking about," he said. "I don’t even know if I have a moderator. I’m not going to just talk about Paris, I’ll talk about whatever comes to mind." The nearly hour-long freestyle talk consisted of ALT's tips for making it in fashion, and thus, life. ENDING TOMORROW Read more posts by Lauren Murrow Filed Under: fashion calendar, sales, shopping Source: The Cut | 18 May 2010 | 11:45 am Top Ten Sketches Of Saturday Night Live Season 35Now that the 35th season of Saturday Night Live is in the books, it’s time to take a look back at what most observers would classify as a solid-B season of the show. Admittedly, the show never quite reached the dizzying heights that it did last year in its 34th season, but then again, the writers and castmembers didn’t have the benefit of the frenzy of an election year to fall back on. Even without that well of material, this season saw plenty of its own highs: Kenan Thompson blossomed into a star (as Kristin Wiig faded ever so slightly), the Lonely Island guys had their most consistent season of their five seasons on the show, and newcomers Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad helped to stabilize the show after the off-season losses of Casey Wilson, Michaela Watkins and Darrell Hammond. Without further ado, here are our picks for this season’s ten most memorable sketches. 10. “On The Ground” starring Andy Samberg, Bobby Moynihan, Jenny Slate, Ryan Reynolds and Elijah Wood Even though none of the digital shorts that the Lonely Island contingent produced this season struck the kind of viral paydirt that predecessors like “Lazy Sunday” or “Dick In A Box” did, it was quite a consistently funny year for Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer (this despite the fact that Schaffer was doing double duty in the editing booth putting the finishing touches on the MacGruber movie). This particular short revolves around the exploits of one of those annoying, anti-social types who are always prattling on about their revulsion to things like “the system” and “the Man.” As a means of showing his disgust with the rules of society, this goateed hipster with misplaced anger issues takes his frustration out by whipping things like energy drinks, hot dogs and his girlfriend’s Blackberry at the ground. “Happy birthday to the GROUND!”
9. “Potato Chip” starring Will Forte, Jason Sudeikis and Blake Lively This was one of those delightfully bizarre end-of-show sketches that never quite catches on with the audience at the live taping but becomes more and more impressive after repeated viewings. Frankly, we kind of wish that host Blake Lively would’ve got out of Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte’s way in this sketch and these two comedic powerhouses go toe-to-toe. That said, watching Forte unleash his rage while staying in character (see also: Fart Face) always makes for essential television. 8. “Scared Straight” starring Kenan Thompson, Jason Sudeikis, Bobby Moynihan, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader and Betty White In a lot of ways, this was Kenan Thompson’s breakout year on the show. His recurring series of “Scared Straight” sketches, in which he portrays the movie-obsessed jailbird Lorenzo MacIntosh, gained tons of momentum this year and became an audience favorite. We really liked the sketch he did with Charles Barkley (“Instead of ‘Show me the money!’, he’ll be saying ‘Blow me for free!’”), but then again, you can’t really beat Betty White screaming “WIZARD OF ASS!” 7. “Teacher” starring Tina Fey and Justin Bieber We’re pretty sure that Justin Bieber dropped out of school about 20 million YouTube views ago, but on the off chance he didn’t, we sincerely hope that he asks Tina Fey to prom. 6. “Hamilton” starring Will Forte and Gabourey Sidibe This was one dynamite, envelope-pusher of a sketch. Will Forte has always excelled at creating characters with really weird backstories (think MacGruber, think Jeff Montgomery, Sex Offender), but this extension of Hamilton — a character we’ve seen pop up at various public functions involving a microphone over the years — was pretty bold. He’s overtly racist, he traces long passages from Robert Ludlum novels onto his lover Gabourey Sidibe’s back with his penis, and would prefer to go to Larry Bird theaters, if only they existed. More humor that makes people feel uncomfortable, please! 5. Monologue: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Wow, just wow! Okay, we admit that this doesn’t exactly fit in the category of “funny,” but can you remember the last time that a guest host put this kind of effort into winning over an audience during a monologue? We certainly can’t. 4. “Stefon” starring Bill Hader and Seth Meyers We’ve already discussed this bit at length. An instant classic. 3. “What Up With That?” starring Kenan Thompson, Kristin Wiig, James Franco, Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen, Jenny Slate, Nasim Pedrad, Will Forte, Bill Hader, Mike Tyson and Jack McBrayer Oooh, wheee! Kenan Thompson’s performance as Soul Glo’d BET host Diondre Cole is a comedic tour-de-force of irrepressible energy, enthusiasm and sweat. This character first debuted in the episode hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson back in October, but quickly became such an audience favorite that he appeared in five total episodes this season. And while there’s no denying that Kenan is glue that holds this sketch together, the non-speaking roles portrayed by Fred Armisen and breakdancing b-boy Jason Sudeikis really provide the icing on the cake (that is, if you will allow me to mix my metaphors). 2. “Hamm & Bublé” starring Jon Hamm and Michael Bublé In just two appearances as host of Saturday Night Live, Jon Hamm has shown that he has the potential to one day reside alongside hosts like Alec Baldwin, Christopher Walken, Tom Hanks and Steve Martin in the (as yet non-existent) SNL Guest Host Hall of Fame. The thing that we love about this particular sketch is the way it derives its strength from the menacing side of Jon Hamm, a side which he frequently shows off on Mad Men in his portrayal of Don Draper. Sure, he’s hands down one of the most handsome actors working in Hollywood today, but it’s his embrace of the dark side that really separates Hamm from other one-note pretty boys. That is not to take anything away from Bublé’s performance here; the skit balances on him effectively cowering in fear of the champagne and pork-obsessed Hamm and he nails it. 1. “Pageant Talk” starring Zach Galifianakis, Jenny Slate, Kristin Wiig and Bill Hader This was one of those glorious moments on SNL where an individual’s performance connects with both their fellow actors and the audience in such a way that the entire sketch gets elevated into instant classic status. In this case, Zach Galifianakis’s perfect turn as the pageant-obsessed “old queen” Gene Shimp was so hilariously eccentric that it nearly caused Kristin Wiig and Bill Hader to break character. Add in SNL rookie (and old Best Week Ever alum!) Jenny Slate’s perfectly blank performance as the object of Gene’s obsession, daughter Wanda Gale Shimp, and you have yourself a sketch for the ages. Honorable Mentions: Crazy Lady Yelling From A Window (“My daddy used to sell Wikipedias!”), Kickspit Underground Rock Festival (R.I.P., Ass Dan), Lolene (“Maybe he’s right. Maybe I am just trash. Just an old piece of trash with a one-way ticket to Trash City.”) So, what did we miss? What sketches and/or characters will you and your friends always remember about this year?
