Crowe has rewritten the script for Zoo, an adaptation of a memoir by Benjamin Mee, which tells the true story of how Mee and his family put their life savings toward purchasing a “dilapidated zoo” in England which included 200 exotic animals "facing destruction." As the family works to ready the zoo for a reopening, Mee’s wife fights a battle with brain cancer. Now that Crowe is on board, Fox plans to look for “an A-lister” to play Mee. We can't imagine it will be too hard to find a Hollywood actor eager to play a part called 'Mee.' [HR] If The Slipper Fits: In a "seven-figure deal," Disney has acquired the pitch for a live-action reimagining of Cinderella. The script will be written by Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses, which means this Cinderella promises to be a neurotic gal who works long hours and just doesn’t have time for love (though she manages to look runway-ready and perfectly coiffed at all times, of course). [Deadline] Channing The Junkie: Channing Tatum will star in What’s Left of Us, with a script from Richie Farrell, who is adapting his own book. Tatum will play a heroin addict enduring the “seven excruciating days” in detox in the film, which is based on a true story. We wouldn't normally be skeptical about the veracity of the tale, but James Frey really has done some serious damage to this genre. [Deadline] She's F**king... A Guy Who Ends Up In A Coma: Wayne McClammy, who is best known for directing Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel’s viral videos “I’m F**king Matt Damon" and "I'm F**king Ben Affleck," is in negotiations to direct Universal’s comedy Desperados. The project - described as a “female-oriented The Hangover” - is being planned as a starring vehicle for Isla Fisher. The movie centers on a woman who sends a scathing e-mail to her latest hookup, who hasn’t gotten in touch with her since they had sex, only to find out he’s in a coma in a Mexican hospital. Of course, she races down to Mexico with her friends to “intercept the e-mail” before he recovers. Of course, it isn't going to be any easier for her to get the dude's gmail password in Mexico than it would be from wherever she lives, but - alas - a movie spent of Isla Fisher trying to hack into a guy's e-mail from her computer would probably not be quite as commercially viable. [HR] Take The Oath: Lucas Foster and Warp Films have acquired the rights to Blood Oath, a "vampire action novel" written by Christopher Farnsworth, which the studio is hoping to turn into a film franchise about a “vampire secret agent.” Oath centers on Nathaniel Cade, a vampire who is captured by the U.S. army after the Civil War and is forced to protect the presidency in the Secret Service for nearly 150 years after swearing an oath to President Andrew Johnson. For those people out there who love Twilight but just wish it had more of an 'American History textbook' edge to it. [Heat Vision/HR] Bloodthirsty: After playing the festival circuit this summer, Vampire Weekend will be heading out on tour in the fall, accompanied by Beach House and Dum Dum Girls. The tour will launch in late August and will include a three-night stand at Radio City Music Hall in New York -- and, if their videos are any indication, there's a good chance these shows'll bring out the celebs. [Pitchfork] The Right Place: Frances McDormand is in advanced negotiations to join Paolo Sorrentino’s This Must Be the Place, starring Sean Penn. The film follows an aging rock star who resolves to hunt down the Nazi criminal who ordered his father’s execution in a concentration camp. McDormand’s role is being kept a secret... Wait, there's no way she's playing the Nazi criminal, right? [Variety] Trippin' Out: Montecito and Paramount have acquired Field Trip, a “sci-fi-tinged” adventure comedy pitch from Jordan Cahan. All that’s been revealed about the story at this point is that it involves time travel, a high school teacher and his students. We blame Hot Tub Time Machine for this. Source: Entertainment - Google News | 17 May 2010 | 10:33 pm Producer Joel Silver Sues Goldman Sachs For $30 Million![]() Joel Silver, on point with what’s trendy nowadays, is taking on Goldman Sachs. The producer sued the investment bank for breach of contract and fraud, claiming he’s owed more than $30 million “from a series of financial arrangements related to films that were produced by his Dark Castle production company.” Silver, who was behind Die Hard, The Matrix and Sherlock Holmes, says Goldman provided both oral and written agreements that he would be paid $30 million in exchange for a share of the revenues from movies under his Dark Castle banner. And Silver clearly knows to make the most of his Goldman lawsuit moment, taking a bold, if predictable, shot at their notoriously large bonuses: "Goldman was able to make profits in the billions and to pay its own executives bonuses in the billions, while claiming that it could not arrange for the $30 million owed to the Silver Parties," the lawsuit claims. Source: Entertainment - Google News | 17 May 2010 | 9:52 pm The Glee Effect: How the Hit Show Reminded Fox Not to Be Boring Next Season![]() Fox didn't add another musical comedy to its 2010-11 schedule, but make no mistake: The success of Glee had a major impact on the network's new lineup. After a couple of years in which it seemed hellbent on aping CBS (remember 'Til Death? Past Life?), Glee's ginormous breakthrough during the past year seems to have inspired a return to old-school Fox: edgy, unconventional and, if the shows don't click, potentially suicidal. The network's big fall drama bet — Lonestar — looks like it was picked up at an FX or AMC garage sale. It's about a Texas con man who's juggling a wife and a girlfriend (Big Dallas Love!), which means the lead is an antihero, one closer to Vic Mackey than Jack Bauer. Fox's midseason drama gun, Ridealong, also has dark overtones; it's a cop show from the man who created Mackey, Shawn Ryan. And then there's the half-hour comedy that could represent the biggest sign that Fox development chief Kevin Reilly is getting back in touch with his dark side: Running Wilde, also known as The Long-Awaited Arrested Development Follow-Up. Wilde stars Will Arnett (and Keri Russell), and it's from AD creator Mitch Hurwitz. AD fans may be giddy with anticipation, but cynical industry types are scratching their heads wondering whether or not Reilly and others at Fox are battling amnesia. After all, the Fox-Hurwitz marriage was rocky at best during the AD days, with Fox never truly sure what to do with the ratings challenged show. It didn't help that the producers perpetually delivered their final cuts late, making it tough for Fox to promote episodes. And in a sign that others were worried about the nuptials, the studio where Hurwitz is based - Sony - opted to pass on producing Wilde, as did several other studios. (Lionsgate eventually stepped up.) So with all those strikes - and we're not even mentioning Hurwitz's instantly forgettable Fox toon Sit Down, Shut Up - isn't Reilly worried history could repeat itself? "I worry about everything," Reilly said Monday in response to a question from Vulture during a conference call with reporters. He said he was ready for some bumps, but was willing to deal if it meant Fox got a good show. "I will always take inspiration over efficiency," Reilly said, adding that he's already had discussions with Hurwitz about reforming his production process. "We’ve talked candidly about how we can set this one up a little bit differently, and he has approached it differently, even the way he’s staffing it and surrounding himself," Reilly said "And Will (Arnett) has been fantastic. He’s been operating as a producer on this, and he has really filled the shoes."
While Glee certainly isn't dark and gloomy, it is massively unconventional, what with all the singing and the diverse cast and the episodes devoted to Madonna. Most ratings prognosticators expected the show to struggle to reach viewers beyond its core, but instead it became a top 10 hit with viewers under 50. And because the skeptics were wrong, Reilly (and boss Peter Rice) seem to be doubling down on risk-taking this year, hoping taking more big bets will prove to be wise. For those worried that Fox might be going too far out on a limb, there is good news: Its lineup still has some more conventional fare. The sweet comedy And you don't get much tamer (or judging from the clips, lamer) than Bob's Burgers, a wan-looking animated comedy that just proves why Seth McFarlane and Matt Groening are bazillionaires. We're undecided about whether twentysomething romantic comedy Mixed Signals is kinda cool (quirky cast) or kinda lame (there's a sassy black cop in the pilot); we do know it ain't edgy. Finally, it's hard for any Fox schedule to be declared too risky as long as American Idol remains at its core. Yes, the show is lame this year, Simon's leaving, and everyone's worried about how it'll do next season. Fox conceded as much by announcing plans to shrink the much-loathed Wednesday results show back to 30 minutes (though we've heard those promises before) and to make all performance shows at least 90 minutes. But guess what? Despite being - let's just say it - awful this year, Idol is still down barely 10 percent in the ratings (compared to, say 25 percent or so for a hit like CSI). Even when it's bad, America loves Idol. And they really love Glee, too. So even if all of Fox's big bets fail spectacularly, Rupert Murdoch's network will probably be just fine next season. Vulture hears that the network is expected to air the cop hour Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. — the same timeslot where the Alphabet once let Dennis Franz bare his behind in NYPD Blue. Detroit features former Soprano Michael Imperioli (no word yet on his bare ass), and it's being shot documentary style. So it's Modern Family, but with cops! We don’t know what will lead into Detroit, since Lost now airs Tuesdays at 9 and will soon be no more. But perhaps this is a sign ABC is planning to put some comedies in the 9 p.m. Tuesday hour, since they'd work well as a lead-in to the funny-serious Detroit. Blumenthal has regularly referenced his service in Vietnam in speeches, appearances at veterans’ ceremonies and assorted other events throughout his political career. The one minor detail he repeatedly left out? He never actually went to Vietnam. The Times has reported that Blumenthal received at least five military deferments and “took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war,” landing a spot in a Washington D.C.-based Marine Reserve unit instead. In public appearances, Blumenthal has said things like "We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam,” and “When we returned, we saw nothing like this,” among other recorded references to time spent overseas. "An examination of his remarks at the ceremonies shows that he does not volunteer that his service never took him overseas. And he describes the hostile reaction directed at veterans coming back from Vietnam, intimating that he was among them," the paper posits.

But hey, they still have House, Glee, Bones, and the cult favorite Fringe! As a result of this holding steady, Fox only has room for two new hour-longs, the buzzy drama Lonestar, and, in the network's back pocket for midseason, the cop show Ride-Along, created by The Shield's Shawn Ryan. Would you watch either? And if you're watching Lie to Me, can you let us know? We'd just like to find the person doing that. (And when you're done with these, check out the new Fox comedies.) Lonestar is a soapy drama about a philandering, wily exec swept up in the world of big oil. Seems like appropriate job placement for that kind of businessman. You can't judge a show by it's title, but it's perfectly fair to do so from three to four clips, so watch them below and let us know whether you're already setting your TiVos, or marking these series down for a TV deathwatch. (And when you're done here, check out the new Fox dramas.) Raising Hope is about a young poor single dad who has to raise his baby with the help of his nutty family. Extra points if you can guess the name of the baby girl. Actually, no; you get no extra points for that. Hey, it's another pun title! But Running Wilde gets automatic benefit of the doubt since it stars Will Arnett and is brought to you by two of the guiding creative forces behind Arrested Development. Does it have the same vibe? Will it go through the same long, slow ratings death? The title Mixed Signals is not a pun, but tells you everything you need to know about the show: three longtime friends, talk about relationships a lot, etc. The animated comedy Bob's Burgers, about a family-run restaurant, is all downtown comedy cred: voices by H. Jon Benjamin (Dr. Katz), comedian Eugene Mirman, and Kristen Schaal (Flight of the Conchords). Source: Best Week Ever | 17 May 2010 | 4:40 pm Dior’s Cruise Collection Mostly Pink, Purple, and Covered![]() John Galliano has given up his love affair with bras, panties, and negligees in his work for Christian Dior. The Nouvelle Vague–inspired resort collection he showed in Shanghai on Saturday to coincide with the opening of that city's new Dior boutique included some of the most opaque things Galliano has delivered in some time. Though he did put one pair of pantie-shorts on the runway along with a few sheer things, the clothes were more good-girl Barbie than anything. When Karl Lagerfeld showed in Shanghai, he looked to the city for inspiration. But Galliano told WWD he was intent on keeping things very French: "[China is an] emerging market and a big player in the field and very thirsty to understand couture, craftsmanship and the savoir faire Français." "It didn’t happen. It’s not happening," he tells Dirk Standen in the sixth installment of Style.com's "Future of Fashion" series, in which fashion people grapple with the Internet and online technologies. Some highlights from Elbaz's sprawling interview: He doesn't think designers should be blamed for thin models. We are being accused that some models are anorexic, but we as fashion designers cannot be blamed, because you know, when I talk to women around the world, rich and poor and young and old and intellectual and not, what they want to be is skinny. You ask them, what is your dream? It’s to be skinny. That’s all they want ... Me, as a designer that is not exactly skinny, all I want is comfortable clothes. All I want is beautiful. I mean, I like gray hair, I love wrinkles. But this is me. He loves bloggers, but as a flawed species. I have to tell you, I love bloggers. And I’m not telling you that because I’m [trying to] bribe them. Every morning I wake up and I see the blogs. There is something very innocent. There is something very honest. You can say, OK, they didn’t have the experience of seeing things. But again it’s another medium. That’s their opinion and it’s interesting to see how politically incorrect they are. Of course, when they say, “Oh my God, I love it,” I’m extremely happy. And when they say, “Oh my God, it’s a piece of shit,” I hate it.
I prefer being relevant to being cool, because if you’re cool, you’re also cold the next day. So it’s more about being relevant. The one thing that always scares me is to be like the Miss America of the moment, because next year there is a new Miss America.
I feel that some celebrities think that because they are famous, they can do fashion. Imagine if I want to be now a dancer. Trust me, I can’t. I can’t jump. I can’t even limp from one point to another. I feel that there is this kind of confusion.
We have to produce in order to have a salary for the people who work for us. This is the pressure I feel season after season when I sketch. When I have this one week I take to sketch, I sit in my apartment and I try to sketch, and all I think about is the people that are working there, that I have to do a good job in order for them to have a salary. And that’s a huge pressure, season after season.
I check the sales every morning, every morning, every morning. It’s not that I work on commission and I want to see how much I’m going to get tonight. It’s not about that. But I need to know if I’m doing something right.
And sometimes I have to tell you that I sit and work in the studio days and nights and weekends on an idea, and then a week or a month or two months after the show I see it everywhere, and I don’t know if I have to be happy about it or sad. I guess I decided not to look and wear, like, thick sunglasses in purple and red, so when people ask me, did you see, I say I don’t speak English.

We’ve got the photos to prove that his tattoo even exists, straight out of the Son of a Gun tattoo parlor in Toronto, Canada, where the 16-year-old Bieber dropped trou to receive his first tattoo, of a small bird on his hip. Speculation arose alongside teenage shrieks of desire a few days ago when photos of Bieber playing football sans shirt on a Sydney beach surfaced (see gallery below). The small tattoo on his pelvis appears to be … an anvil? No. The Texas Longhorns mascot? OK, what about the plastic bag in American Beauty? Not that either… what’s that? I see. My sources (internet) have just informed me that the tattoo is of a bird in flight. Turns out it’s a Bieber tradition, as many members of his family sport bird tattoos on their wrist. Justin’s dad Jeremy Bieber was alongside Justin as the tatt artist went to work, defacing the body of America’s sole angel. And now, that little bird tattoo can spread his little ink wings and fly into the hearts of millions. We just pray he stops there. Miniature hip tattoos we can cope with, but full sleeves and a dolphin tramp stamp would really ruin kill our hopes of one day birthing a litter of Biebies.
