Last Night on Late Night: Mick Jagger Saves the World

An ever-escalading Lost fever is omnipresent these days on late night shows, with all the stars making their rounds, creating more hype than the eminent (and ultimately disappointing) Y2K. But none as grandiose as Jimmy Fallon’s epic parody ‘Late’ in which a certain British rock legend plays a neurotic Scotsman with an unnatural button obsession. On The Daily Show, Stewart points out the shoddy, used car salesman-like tactics the GOP uses. Then, no one seems to know that much about the mysterious new Supreme Court appointee Elena Kagan, but Steven Colbert seems to have a few theories. One of them being that she’s a little preoccupied with this kid. Finally, Craig Ferguson offers some friendly advice to new British Prime Minister David Cameron on what to do and what not to do when he’s formally introduced to the Queen.

Industry Roundup: Jennifer Aniston Lines Up Two Comedy Roles

Funny Girl: Jennifer Aniston, who has the comedy The Switch out this summer, has joined two high-profile upcoming studio films. Aniston has signed on to star in Wanderlust opposite Paul Rudd in a comedy written by David Wain (Role Models) and produced by Judd Apatow, in which Aniston and Rudd will play a couple who head to a commune after losing all of their money. And she has also been added to the cast of Seth Gordon’s workplace comedy Horrible Bosses, in which she will play an “aggressive dentist,” one of the three titular awful bosses (Colin Farrell will play one of the other two top dogs). Aniston's Switch co-star Jason Bateman and Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are in negotiations to play disgruntled employees in the long-gestating project. Get ready for the inevitable "Is Aniston basing evil boss character on Jolie?" Us Weekly headline. [Variety, Deadline]

Couching Tiger: Brad Pitt will star in The Tiger, a Darren Aronofsky-directed drama written by Guillermo Arriaga (Babel). The script is based on an upcoming book by John Vaillant which follows an animal activist who must protect a small Siberian town when it is attacked by a tiger. Couldn't let Jen have just one day of headlines all to herself, could ya, Brad? [HR]

Unmade in Manhattan: Colin Farrell and Marion Cotillard will star in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel. The thriller tracks a multimillionaire on a 24-hour "odyssey" across Manhattan. Farrell will plan an asset manager who loses all of his money in a single day, while Cotillard will play his wife. Presumably Farrell's dramatic loss occurs for reasons more cinematic than a typo. [Variety]

Bomer Out: Dave Annable (Brothers and Sisters) is in negotiations to replace Matt Bomer (White Collar) in the Anna Faris romantic comedy What’s Your Number? Bomer, who was to play Faris’ dream guy in the film, had to pull out for scheduling reasons. Chris Evans, Zachary Quinto and Joel McHale will play Faris’ exes. To be considered more desirable than Captain America, Spock and Jeff Winger is really quite a feat. [HR]

B. Plus: Audrey Tautou will star in Therese B., an adaptation of Francois Mauriac’s novel, which will be directed by Claude Miller. The film, set in the 1920s, centers on Therese Desqueyroux, a “free-spirited but unhappily married woman” who tries to free herself “from social pressures and the boredom of suburban life.” Apparently her first idea was changing her annoying last name to a way more fun initial. [Variety]

House Horror: Grindstone, a division of Lionsgate, has picked up the rights to distribute Open House, starring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Rachel Blanchard. The film is directed by Paquin’s brother, Andrew Paquin, and centers on a woman (Blanchard) who is kidnapped and held captive in her own home by “two sociopaths during an open house event.” Don't fret, Sookie and Bill aren't playing the two crazy sociopaths. [Variety]

By The Law: John Grisham’s The Firm may become a TV series close to twenty years after the novel was released, as a spec pilot script by Lukas Reiter is circulating among networks including FX, TNT and A&E, as well as NBC and Fox. Deadline says there is “already interest from at least one cable net.” If FX takes this and ditches Damages, that would be tragic. [Deadline]

Mistrial Ruled In Brooklyn Hate Crime Case

Phoenix in court Tuesday.

A judge has declared a mistrial in the hate crime trial of Keith Phoenix, a Brooklyn man charged with murdering an Ecuadorean immigrant whom Phoenix thought was gay, prosecutors say, as the victim was walking arm-in-arm with his brother on the chilly night of the attack in December 2008. Phoenix, 30, was accused of beating Jose Sucuzhanay with an aluminum baseball bat so forcefully that it cracked his skull; Sucuzhanay died several days later. The mistrial ruling came after one of the jurors refused to continue deliberations, and a new trial date has been set for June 15. [NYT, NYP]

Shahzad May Have Fled To Airport As Result of 'Leaks' Concerning Case

Faisal Shahzad’s dash to the airport on the night of his arrest may have been in response to hearing media reports, NYPD commissioner Ray Kelly said. “Before the individual was taken into custody, there was a lot of specific information about who we were looking for,” Kelly said, before vaguely offering that “there's some indication this information made the individual leave." When pressed about who exactly was behind this information leaking, Kelly deflected blame from the police department, instead pointing to an “inordinate amount of information given out by somebody” in the ongoing case (well, that clears things up). And though it’s still not clear when Shahzad will appear in court, Sen. Dianne Feinstein told reporters after a briefing today that the Times Square bombing suspect has waived his right to a speedy arraignment, and she said that “suggests he’s continuing to provide valuable information to authorities.”

Sarah Silverman Program Canceled by Comedy Central

As had been expected, Comedy Central’s The Sarah Silverman Program has been canceled after three seasons, Deadline is reporting, in spite of a Twitter campaign launched to save the show. The future of the series looked to be in jeopardy when the network moved the series from 10:30 p.m. to midnight midway through the third season, which ended last month. Hopefully Silverman - who scored a lead actress Emmy nomination for the show last year - will be able to find solace in the buzz from her just-released book, her upcoming movie role and, of course, Matt Damon. Underperforming Happy Town Will Disappear Until June

After just two episodes, ABC has decided to pull Happy Town - described by Entertainment Weekly as "the poor man's Twin Peaks" - from its May schedule. Though the show was promoted heavily by ABC, the debut episode earned just 5.2 million viewers (on par with the numbers for Ugly Betty and Eastwick during their runs), before dipping to 3.8 million viewers for the second episode. ABC will burn off the first season's five remaining episodes starting June 2. If you are among this 3.8 million, you should probably start mentally preparing for Happy's seemingly inevitable cancellation. [EW]

Chance To Spend 'A Day In New York' With Bill Clinton Just A Donation Away

In a romantic gesture (we’re talking Clinton-romantic, not, like, Blair/Chuck-romantic), Bill Clinton sent out a mass e-mail this morning asking for help in making up the remaining debt from wife Hillary’s failed presidential bid. Those who respond by donating money will automatically have their names entered into a contest. The prize? A day spent in New York with Bill himself.

“Hillary's campaign still has a few vestiges of debt that I know she would like to see paid in full," the former president wrote in the e-mail. "Will you reach out today to help Hillary this one last time? If you enter between now and May 18th, you might join me for a day in New York."

As of March 31, Hillary’s campaign was still about $771,000 in debt, down from the $845,000 owed at 2009’s close. Courtney, this is your chance!

Palin's Second Book On Its Way This Fall

Just about six months after her memoir Going Rouge was released - which went on to sell 2 million hardcover copies -- Sarah Palin is moving ahead with a second one. Titled America By Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag, the book is scheduled for a November 23 release and will include “selections from classic and contemporary readings that have moved her.” Expectations for this second go-round appear to have been tempered a bit: after Rouge had a first printing of 1.5 million copies, America By Heart will see an initial run of 1 million. Presumably this title beat out Kickin' It Old School With Sarah. [NYT, AP]

Glee Creator Calls For Boycott of Newsweek After 'Blatantly Homophobic' Article

Ryan Murphy, the creator of Glee, has called for a boycott of Newsweek in an open letter released to EW.com in response to a controversial Newsweek article titled “Straight Jacket,” penned by Ramin Setoodeh. Setoodeh's piece discussed gay actors playing straight characters, specifically calling out Promises, Promises star Sean Hayes for coming off as “wooden and insincere, like he’s trying to hide something, which of course he is,” as well as Glee star Jonathan Groff, an openly gay actor playing the straight love interest of Lea Michele's character (Setoodeh wrote that Groff seems “more like your average theater queen" on the show).

Murphy’s response comes after actress Kristin Chenoweth - currently starring with Hayes in Promises, Promises - offered her outraged reaction to the article on Friday, in which she called it “horrendously homophobic” and stated that “no one needs to see a bigoted, factually inaccurate article that tells people who deviate from heterosexual norms that they can’t be open about who they are and still achieve their dreams.”

Murphy’s open letter calls the article “as misguided as it is shocking and hurtful” and he specifically criticizes Newsweek for publishing “such a blatantly homophobic article in the first place” and remaining “silent in the face of ongoing (and justified) criticism.” He goes on to write that he has "asked GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios to stand with [him]" in calling for an “immediate boycott” of the magazine until Newsweek offers an apology to Hayes and the other actors specifically mentioned in the piece, as well as to “all gay readers of the magazine.” He closes by inviting Setoodeh to Glee’s set to “see how [they] take care to do a show about inclusiveness.”

Setoodeh, who is openly gay, has offered his own take on the controversy on Newsweek's website, in which he describes the personal attacks he has received since his article was printed and writes that he intended to “start a dialogue” with the piece: “The point of my essay was not to disparage my own community, but to examine an issue that is being swept under the rug," he writes.

The Hurt Locker vs. Pirates

Voltage Pictures, the company behind Best Picture winner The Hurt Locker, is planning to sue "tens of thousands, if not more," people who downloaded the movie via BitTorrent, says the Hollywood Reporter (Locker leaked online five months before its American release last year). By our calculations, if they settle with 10,000 pirates for $3,500 (which is the average out-of-court settlement for music downloaders), they would make a whole hell of a lot more than the $15 million Locker did in theaters. Annette Bening on Mother and Child, Teen Pregnancy, and Playing the Woman You Wouldn’t Want to Meet in the Grocery Store

It’s perhaps difficult to use the word “anonymity” in reference to a three-time Oscar nominee, but like her husband Warren Beatty, Annette Bening exhibits a pickiness that often keeps her removed from the public eye. That's changing this summer: In July she'll star in Lisa Cholodenko’s Sundance hit The Kids Are All Right, and she can currently be seen in Rodrigo Garcia’s Mother and Child, in which Bening breathes life into Karen, an abrasive single woman who’s still carrying emotional baggage from giving her baby up for adoption as a teenager. Vulture recently caught up with Bening to talk about playing a woman in turmoil, adoption, and the motivation of fear.

Issues of adoption are at the core of each of these films, with some interesting ruminations about what our biology means. In Mother and Child, for instance, we see some of Karen’s prickliness manifested in Elizabeth, the biological daughter she’s never met.
Right, they’re kind of cut from the same cloth. And that’s in the writing. I loved that, and yet we never discussed it. Neither Rodrigo nor [co-star] Naomi Watts nor I wanted to pull away from that. I wanted to walk that line, where in the beginning I’m sure some people [in the audience] really don’t like Karen. And that’s exactly right, that’s the entire point. She’s the person you meet in the grocery store who’s just unpleasant. You’re not drawn to them and you wonder how this person functions in the world, and the answer is not very well. I thought that was an important note to strike, especially given where I was going to go.

This movie explores the mental anguish attached to giving up a child for adoption.
It’s kind of a mystery to me, as far as my own life experiences and what I’ve witnessed — why some people can just move on through traumatic experiences, in childhood particularly, and why other people are just paralyzed by it. I just don’t know how and why that is. In looking at this particular woman and her circumstance — being 14 and getting pregnant — I was in high school in the seventies and actually saw this happen. There was a girl I’d known since we were little, playing together in the same neighborhood as kids. We got to high school and she was just gorgeous, and a really vivacious person. All of a sudden she was just gone. I went to a big high school, with over a thousand people in each class, but I still remember her just suddenly disappearing. And of course she’d gotten pregnant and was just sent away. But I also knew girls who got abortions, because by the time I was in high school Roe v. Wade had passed and people were also making that choice. So the sexual revolution was in gear, and yet the sensibility and the mores where I grew up in suburban San Diego were still very, very conservative. So I tried to get into as many first-person accounts of women who’d been through this as I could, and Karen wasn’t unusual — a lot of these women were really traumatized by this. There’s the shame on you, the shame on your family. And then does the boy [who got the girl pregnant] know? In some cases, it was very traumatic for the boy, too, and you never hear about that.

Which is interesting, because the movie features Karen’s adult reconnection with that boy, where she says, “I’ve never felt with anyone what I felt with you.”
I bought that, and I found David Morse such an interesting actor who brought so much to this guy. It made perfect sense to me that Karen had to go and see him, and also that she’d never done it. She’d have been much healthier if she’d done it twenty years earlier, of course, but it made such sense to me — the fact that she was so wounded by what happened that she’s been paralyzed.

There’s a rigidity to Karen's behavior which is at times heartbreaking.
Oh, well, thanks. What really motivates you to try to work things out as an actor is in large part fear, because you want to get into that narrative and bring the audience along. It’s really in the writing, because if it’s not there you can’t find or create it alone. But if it’s there, and in the sensibility of the director, you’re able to locate [a different] body language. You have to know a little bit about here to there, because you’re shooting all over the place. But you also don’t want to try to plan it too much, because then it’s dead. You want it to seem like lightning in a bottle.

Rachael Ray Offers Embarrassingly Tepid Support for Kirsten Gillibrand

Rachael Ray was in Washington today — along with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who, in a less liberal version, used to represent Ray's upstate New York district in Congress — lobbying to get more funding added to legislation to improve the quality of school food. And yet, despite this cooperation, and the fact that Gillibrand was standing right next to her, Ray offered only middling praise when a reporter asked whether Gillibrand was "any good" as a representative. "I think she's pretty good in the cafeteria," Ray said, sheepishly, hesitantly. Is Ray just not confident enough with her knowledge of politics to confirm that Gillibrand was indeed "any good" as a congresswoman, or is there some kind of grudge going on here? Either way, it made us uncomfortable.

Highlights From Chanel’s Cruise Show: Karl Lagerfeld’s Purple Suit, Crystal Renn, and More

Chanel's always-epic cruise collection walked in St. Tropez today. Images are still trickling over the wire, but we know models arrived by sailboat and either walked barefoot or in kitten heels or moccasins. Confirming rumors, Crystal Renn walked twice, and Georgia May Jagger appeared at the end on a motorcycle. Apparently the bike was broken, and it stalled on the runway to much amusement. Karolina Kurkova also walked the show, and André Leon Talley caused a paparazzi fracas when he showed up in a big green cape, offsetting the red décor. Oh, André — this is cruise, not Christmas! Woman Leaves $8.4 Million Estate to Her Butler

Since we at Intel keep a close eye on the news, occasionally we have the strange experience of coming across reports of things that happened to other people which we know for a fact were actually meant to have happened to us. Like a freelance journalist wins millions in the lottery. Or a man is saved from drowning by a sexy shirtless surfer. Or a 98-year-old film and stage actress named Ruth Ford leaves her butler her entire $8.4 million estate, which includes two apartments at the Dakota and a valuable collection of Russian surrealist art, in exchange for twenty years of service.

From the Journal:

Now 57 years old, Mr. Tamang has a wife and three daughters and owns a two-family home in the Woodside section of Queens. In addition, he now has a multimillion-dollar inheritance and the views of a co-op board to consider. "I was always hearing about America," Mr. Tamang said. "I took my chance and I came. I had no idea how the work was going to go and how long I would stay."

According to the Journal, the will has been contested by Ford's daughter, though the claims have been dismissed and she now says she's "happy" for the butler. And who can blame her for trying? Probably she thought this was supposed to happen to her, too.

Tila Tequila’s New EP: A Serious Music Review

Admit it, readers. You’ve dismissed Tila Tequila’s new EP, Welcome to the Darkside, and you haven’t even heard it yet. Shame on you. Tila Tequila, now known as Miss Tila, wants to be taken seriously as a musician — and you’re not giving her much of a shot. Is it because you think that the pioneer of the first bi-sexual reality dating show couldn’t possibly have a musical bone in her bikini-clad body? Is it because Tila’s only recent visibility has come from attention-whoring on Twitter? Or is it that Tila has tried more than once to jump-start a pop career by relying on little more than sex appeal and raunchy lyrics? The brilliant first line to the brilliantly titled “I F*cked The DJ,” for example: “I f*cked the DJ his d*ck was real big.” Okay, readers. You score a point!

But as Miss Tila herself once said to all of her haters: “Suck my d*ck.” The fact of the matter is that being a pinup model doesn’t exclude her from having enough talent to make it as a pop star — especially when plenty of contemporary stars don’t write their own music or play an instrument. By these standards, Tila’s song “Blue Dress” isn’t half bad. Sure, it’s a Depeche Mode remake. (Readers, you score again!) But I can hear the judges of American Idol saying that Tila not only stepped outside of her comfort zone by trading in lewdness to redo an earnestly dark New Wave ballad, but she’s also succeeded in making the song her own. Miss Tila’s version of “Blue Dress” pays tribute to the original with electro-synth keys and then diverges by using crisp violins and a stabbing guitar riff that sounds akin to a ’60s Western soundtrack by Ennio Morricone. Clearly, Miss Tila doesn’t have the pipes of an Alicia Keys or a Jennifer Hudson, but neither does Madonna. I like “Blue Dress.” Now crucify me.

Daily News Offers Another Round of Buyouts

Last week, staffers at the New York Daily News received a package from their employer offering a buyout, multiple sources involved with the tabloid said. The package, which listed pages' worth of positions at the paper, seemed to be sent to all editorial employees. It offered a week's worth of pay for every six months of work at the paper, with the decision deadline of May 21st. The Daily News declined to comment. This is the third buyout offer that's been sent around in as many years — the last two came along in 2008. This is bad news for the paper, which went through an expensive conversion to full-color printing last year, and has been feeling lighter in recent weeks.

Pilots Hate La Guardia

Travel magazine Nowhere has an anonymous diary from the co-pilot of a commercial airline. Some of the details are surprising in ways you might expect ("Capt. and cute FA drinking duty free rum till about 0230. Capt ends up getting a blowjob from the FA"). Some them are surprising in a horrifying way ("The engine is using 8x as much oil as normal and is leaking out the bottom. Tell us to keep an eye on it"). And some of it is not surprising at all, like the pilot's feelings about La Guardia airport.

Oh LaGuardia, let me count the ways you suck. It is overcast. Not raining or storming. Just clouds. The inbound flight had to hold for 40 minutes. There are almost 50 planes waiting to take off. Takes us 15 minutes just to exit the ramp. Takes another hour to get to the runway. The taxiways are asphalt so the plane sinks every time we stop. 40% power on one engine won’t move the plane, so we have to gun it. Every plane is shaking every other plane trying to get going. They land on a crossing runway and with the IFR spacing restrictions, takeoffs happen half as often as normal.

The Whitestone climb-off 13 is a pain. At 400 feet, turn right to 180. At 2.5 miles from the VOR, turn left to 040; do not exceed 210 knots until you roll out on that heading. Climb to 5000. Don’t exceed 250 knots until 11000 feet. Fly north (the wrong way) to Canada. Turning south takes almost 15 minutes. Step climbs 1,000 feet at a time for 25 minutes until we are almost over DC. Our Jet Blue jumpseater has apparently eaten a dead cat’s ass before joining us ... A stinky cherry to top the shit-sundae that is always LGA.

MY MOTHER RECAPS THE REAL HOUSEWIVES: They’re Just a Bunch of Dumb Women in Gorgeous Homes

This week on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey, episode entitled “Same Sh*t, Different Day,” not all that much happened. The thick as thieves family still campaigned against Danielle, while Danielle’s daughter embarked on what very well may be a successful modeling career. And then there is Theresa’s daughter, Gia, who makes up for a lack of model looks with personality!!

While this episode was fairly slow in comparison to the Housewives of New York, I phoned up my dear Mother as per usual to get her feelings on the show. Through a pre-sleep haze, we get the following:

On What’s Her Name

Whats her name? Jacqueline. I feel bad for her. Poor girl. She barely had a chance to order before she’s being interrogated there. She didn’t even bring Danielle up. They have nothing to talk about! They sit there to bawl her out against Danielle, who they haven’t seen since last season. Why don’t you just let this one live? I don’t like that.

Also, look, Danielle is a whore and a lowlife, but she’s got very cute little girls. They should have never entered the conversation. They don’t look innocent? They look very cute! Last week, when she wanted to bust up their party, it was Danielle’s own children that stopped her.

Caroline Manzo is Dunzo in Judy’s Book

Caroline is turning out to be a little Jill, a Jill in disguise, a sh*tstirrer. They’re a little mafia there. We live in a democracy! That girl (Jackie) can be friendly with who ever she wants, its her and her husband’s business. I tell you something, though, that salad sure looked delicious.

Christine Staub, Supermodel

Let me tell you something: That girl is drop dead stunning. She looks like, uh, what’s her name…

Me: Mariel Hemingway.

Mom: Yes, Mariel Hemingway! Daddy, what was I saying?

Dad: Mariel Hemingway.

Mom: What a beauty. And sweet as sugar! I really resent Caroline for bring her into it. The girls had nothing to do with anything. These are innocent little girls.

You know who that Gilles Bensimmon is? It’s Kelly’s ex-husband. (Ed. Note: I knew.) That’s huge. That’s huge.

On Gia, Mom’s Favorite Little J-Hater

Let me tell you who else I like: Theresa’s little girl Gia. She has a little attitude! She moves her ass. The kid is adorable. When she was smiling and she wanted to be serious, she touched her cheeks to wipe her smile off her face. She’s not a pretty girl, but she’s got a personality!

I like Gia, when she said “I don’t want to marry a Jewish man with the sideburns,” Daddy and I were sh*tting laughing when she was doing that curly thing with the payos (sideburns). You know what? I also didn’t want to marry him! I thought I was going to eat her up. She’s not gorgeous like Danielle’s daughters, but she has a personality, this is a riot. You know what? She got the model walk down. She should go on America’s Next Top Model and teach those girls how to walk. She’s got the snap! I’m really impressed with that little girl.

Breaking Down the 4th Wall of Reality Television

Let me tell you, I don’t know how a lowlife like Danielle got in with these women. Unless they’re directing her. It could be the show, she might even be higher class than what we’re seeing. But her children are so sweet. The girl, nevermind pretty, they’re just very lovely. No other words. She’s very blessed. And it could be that those other girls are very jealous.

It has to be the show pushing her to call them! We are not stupid. There is no way that if somebody treats you like sh*t, there is just no way you keep crawling back. On the other hand, if she’s going to sever all relationships with them and you just take the sisters, what show is that? She’s causing a big feud there. It’s ridiculous. They should have gotten another housewife. They get other ones in the OC and New York? If she doesn’t mesh, get her out and bring in somebody else. She’s like a leper. Why do you keep a leper in the show? Get her out and bring another person.

They seemed to be very lovely women at her lunch. Did they come because the cameras were there or did they come for her? But her daughter is drop dead gorgeous and sweet. I’m sure they had their embarrassment at school from their mother. The young one is at an awkward stage but she’ll be beautiful. Daniel has a gorgeous figure. I’m sure a nosejob, but overall she’s a pretty woman. (Ed. Note: I can’t even.)

“Now Jacqueline’s Daughter is Trash.”

Now Jacqueline’s daughter is trash. Talking about trash? (Ed. Note: We weren’t.) There you go. An uneducated nothing. And looks like she can’t control her. The girl always has a smile on her face. Like, wipe that stupid smile off your face already.

The mother looks at her like she was hit by a truck. (Ed. Note: No idea what this means, moving on…) She’s not putting her foot down enough! I never hear the word “education” amongst these people. Go to college! Continue your education, something! No. You live with a guy who’s four years older than you? As long as you’re with him, don’t come in my house, that’s what I would say. (Laughing) I’m sorry. She brought her the laundry in the black garbage bag. I thought “Doesn’t she even have a luggage like Michelle?” “And take your laundry with you!” I swear I heard my Mother saying it.

We never saw Jackie have great interaction with her older daughter. She’s very doting on the two little children. It’s possible – listen I’m the worst psychiatrist – it could be that the girl is looking for attention and not getting it. The mother got remarried, has these two little bambinos, and the other says “What am I? Chopped liver?” So she does stuff for attention

The Ham Game and Education

Look at the kids there by Caroline. I don’t hear one Einstein amongst all of them. Albie is cute, but I don’t like him. He’s an assh*le. What’s to like?

Michelle: He’s cute.

Mom: A cute retarded guy, that’s wonderful Michelle.

What was that ham thrown on that beautiful kitchen? And it wasn’t thrown from a 5 year old. I don’t find that funny.

Where We Reach Our Conclusions

It’s not as exciting as New York. To me, it’s the worst. There is like nothing there. I’ll give you that Theresa looks better this year than last year. You usually look dog ugly when you’re pregnant, but she looks fabulous. Caroline, who’s supposed to be the matriarch and at least have some wisdom, the minute they sit down, “So you’re seeing Danielle?” Why don’t you talk about the weather and some politics? They’re just a bunch of dumb women in gorgeous homes.

On The Topic Of Perez Hilton’s Self Image

Pretty much every one who writes about pop culture on the internet is in the business of writing about people who are, in general, more wealthy, more successful, and better looking than they are. I, clearly, am among those writers, but…just…let’s not worry about that for a second. Let’s instead crap on Perez Hilton for being one of those writers.

Perez Hilton is a desperate, dumpy man who makes his living, in large part, by pointing out slight physical defects in famous people. I think that he is at least somewhat aware of the irony, but the banner at the top of his website often makes me question that.  He always has an animated picture of his head to the right of his logo, and those pictures are, by and large, very generous in regards to the depiction of his face.

Lookin’ good, Perez.  But, come on.  You look way less un-monstery than those pictures would suggest.

But, just today, I noticed some much more realistic pictures that he started using.  Look at these:

Wow.  Yikes.  But, awesome.  Good for Perez.  I think he’s coming to terms with himself.  He’s growing as a person.

Do You Think Karl Lagerfeld Carries a Bleach Pen With His All-White Suit?

Karl Lagerfeld's new short film promoting his Chanel cruise show, Remember Now, is now available in full. If you have seventeen minutes to kill, you could do worse than watching the Kaiser's favorite models dance around in see-through dresses, Baptiste Giabiconi trying to get people to go to the seventies party, and Karl making his cameo in an all-white suit. Like P. Diddy!

Little Giant Blueberries: The Infomercial-est Way To Get Blueberries!

Problem that doesn’t exist? Check.

Exclamation-point-filled claims that look like 60s Batman tv show sound effects? Check.

Zooming stock photos and nondescript banjo music? Check.

By golly, it looks like we got ourselves a perfect low-budget commercial for Little Giant Blueberry Plants, the second-best way to get blueberries EVER!

Best part of the commercial? The U.S. Plant Expert, obviously:

I trust that dude. If there was a problem with the blueberry plants, I’m sure the federal plant expert wouldn’t be as obviously disinterested/stoned.

Can I get a second opinion from the Simpsons’ scientician?

Video: Kelly ‘Not Pam Anderson’ Cutrone Discusses Killing Mice in New Internet Talk Show

Kelly Cutrone launched a new vlog with her buddy Justine Batemen called "Wake Up and Get Real." She explains that it's "a talk show that [expresses] the views that aren't on THE VIEW." Waking up and getting real to them means talking about — among other things like Mother's Day — vermin and the removal of vermin. While wearing sunglasses indoors. “I’m not Pam Anderson. I don’t wear fur, but I do kill mice because they’re in my fucking house and they don’t pay rent and they’re rodents and I want them to die," Kelly says, before letting loose her softer side. "The only way I haven’t been able to kill them is manually. I can’t kill them myself. I have to third-party kill, like a trap. I can’t two-party direct kill." See more from that episode in the video, and watch Justine remove gophers from her lawn in this one.

Are Nicole and Derek the ones to beat on 'Dancing'?

Judging by Monday night's performance show, it's singer Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough. At times her own worst critic, Nicole put aside all of her inhibitions and performed a near flawless foxtrot, which received 29 out of 30 points. Later, the pair performed a perfect 1950s-style paso doble.

The Real Oil Spill Disaster: This Picture

As a general request to all media outlets, can you please stop using this picture to illustrate the oil spill?   This particular screen shot is from the Drudge Report, but it’s also been on the Huffington Post, and I’m sure it’s also appeared in print.  They all need to stop it.

An oil spill is terrible.  It is terrible, and it is a disaster, and no one in journalism should hesitate to use an image that they he or she thinks will demonstrate the importance of the matter on which they are reporting.  But this picture does not do that.  This picture would make sense if the main issue with oil spills is that they are “so gross.”  That’s not really the problem at hand, though.

So in blunt conclusion:  Stop using that picture.  It looks like a hand covered in sh*t.

Nightmare Sleeping Bag…You Know, For Kids

I suppose this is for children who are way less neurotic than I was growing up.  I couldn’t even sleep with my Big Bird stuffed animal without having a full blown night terror about there being a chicken on my back.  I would wake up yelling, “There’s a chicken on my back!”  I was always good at concise nightmare yelling.

That being said, this is a really great thing designed by somebody who’s name is Kendra Phillips.  Obviously, it’s going to ruin lives, but still, it’s really great.

“There’s a shark severing my lower extremities!” – Me, in an alternate 1988 where my parents bought this for me.

Tyra Banks to Pen Fantasy Model Trilogy

Tyra Banks has turned modeling as a theme into a reality show, a talk show, and an online magazine. It's pretty amazing, actually, because it's modeling. Martha Stewart may do entire shows on gardening and papier-mâché but at least people who want to do that can do that (outside of New York, where people have plots of soil and elbow room). Now Tyra has parlayed modeling into a book trilogy called Modelland. We knew she had a way with words when she launched her online magazine and called it a "magaline."

Delacorte Press is publishing this series, in which Tyra coins the term "Intoxibellas" to describe models like herself. From the press release:

Drawing from an area of expertise she is avidly passionate about, Tyra’s MODELLAND is the story of a teen girl in a make-believe society who finds herself competing for a way of life that's both hotly desired and woefully out of reach at an academy for Intoxibellas, the most exceptional models known to humankind. As the plot unfolds, readers will uncover lessons that are buried beneath the surface of this magical world. The premise of the 3-part fantasy series is deeply rooted in Tyra’s core mission of expanding the definitions of beauty. In MODELLAND, Tyra’s innate ability to connect with women on issues ranging from relationships to body image finds a natural extension to the page.

So by our calculations, if you just subtract some of those Intoxibellas you'll have the written version of America's Next Top Model.

DISCOVERED: What American Idol Is Missing This Season… Talent.

By every account, this season of American Idol “sucks.” (Our words.) Little talent, zero charisma, simply put, no reason to tune in. But what solution is there? We’ve got one:

Lower the age of prospective Idols to “Zygote.” That way, performers such as Greyson Michael Chance would have a… chance… at winning. Greyson is sort of a Justin Bieber for the 20-and-over set. Why? Because he’s talented, plays piano, makes the ladies swoon, and doesn’t look like Jackie Warner. And given that we give this footage of Greyson singing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” a good 12 hours until every teenage girl in America has seen it, it’s not completely unlikely that we’ve got another viral video turned megastar on our hands. (Not literally, as that would be illegalll!! Seriously, we didn’t even think about it. What? Stop.)
