Last Night on Late Night: Jimmy Kimmel Decodes Lost

Though the school year’s winding down for most students, last night’s late night entertainers were all about education, and had a distinctly pedagogical air. With only three episodes left of Lost, rumors and theories are flying left and right. And with all those leaks out there, it’s hard to discern which ones to believe, and which are as shaky as the Sideways time line. Worry not—Jimmy Kimmel has taken it upon himself to decode the vast transcendental meaning of the show. It is…NURBLOG2? Meanwhile, on The Late Show with David Letterman, Russell Crowe swings to give Letterman a lesson in Aussie linguistics. It has little to do with phonetics, and a lot to do with the local fauna. Then, fresh off his own parody of Glee, Jimmy Fallon learns the proper way to remove a slushie from Glee’s own Lea Michele. Finally, Colbert teaches the Nation of the heroics of the street artist who used his talent for good. Watch our compilation to see what you missed.

Industry Roundup: Patrick Dempsey Trades In Scrubs For Transformers 3 Role

McTransformers-y: Patrick Dempsey has been added to the cast of Transformers 3. The Grey’s Anatomy star will join returning stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox in the Michael Bay-directed film. EW reports that Dempsey will play Fox's boss in the film, "a darker character" who is "significant to the plot." Based on this and last week's rumblings, it may be wise for Shonda Rhimes to start thinking about looking for a new McDreamy. [Variety]

Dueling Friends: Mila Kunis will star opposite Justin Timberlake in Friends With Benefits, a romantic comedy about two friends who try to take their romance to the next level. Believe it or not, the casting makes this - in addition to the upcoming Ivan Reitman-helmed Ashton Kutcher-Natalie Portman film - the second movie with the working title Friends With Benefits scheduled for the near future featuring an ex-That '70s Show cast member. [Variety]

The Right Number: Joel McHale has nabbed a “key role” in the upcoming Anna Faris comedy What’s Your Number? He will play the “mildly charming boss” whom Faris’ character “accidentally” sleeps with, which causes her to embark on a quest through her former lovers to find the perfect guy. The Mark Mylod film’s cast also includes Chris Evans, Zachary Quinto and Matt Bomer…. well, knowing those are the three guys Faris is going to reconnect with, it would seem McHale’s actually doing her something of a favor. [HR]

She-Wolf to Roam: Shakira will embark on a North American tour this fall, with tickets to go on sale May 7. The Colombian singer’s last tour in 2006-2007 earned more than $42 million across 46 North American and Latin American stops. No dates will be scheduled on nights projected to have full moons. [Billboard]

Kings of The Castle: HBO is developing America: In the King Years, a 7-hour miniseries about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. based on the book trilogy by Taylor Branch. Robert Schenkkan, who wrote four episodes of The Pacific, will write the seven hour-long episodes for the project, which comes from Harpo Films’ Oprah Winfrey and Kate Forte. This venture joins two other upcoming projects focused on King: Lee DanielsSelma (with Liam Neeson and Hugh Jackman attached) and a DreamWorks MLK biopic from Ronald Harwood. If we were those last two though, we might be a bit unnerved about now: Oprah loses to no one. [Deadline]

Fonda and Keener Find Peace: Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener will star in Peace, Love and Misunderstanding, a “multigenerational indie film” centering on a conservative lawyer (Keener) who takes her children to the house of their “estranged hippie grandmother” (Fonda) in Woodstock after Keener’s husband leaves her. Undoubtedly, after early friction, Fonda will teach Keener and the grandchildren how to tie dye shirts or knit scarves, and, three-quarters through, Keener will jump into a geyser with her clothes on to show how 'carefree' she's become. [HR]

Terrace Duo Reunites: Samuel L. Jackson and Neil LaBute are teaming up for a drama project for Showtime about a white supremacist family in the Pacific Northwest. Jackson will executive produce the series, which is based on his idea, and LaBute (The Wicker Man) will write the script. Let’s hope this fares better than the last time the duo collaborated on a project involving race, 2008’s tepidly-received Lakeview Terrace. [Variety]

Two 'Lapses' in Security Resulted in Shahzad Boarding Plane

The Emirates plane after Shahzad's arrest.

Attempting to answer the question of why Faisal Shahzad was allowed to board a plane heading to Dubai about 24 hours after investigators learned he might have a connection to the Times Square attempted car bombing, the Times is reporting that there were “at least two significant lapses in the security response of the government and the airline” that allowed him to almost flee the country, according to information from Department of Homeland Security, FBI and other agency officials.

First, the FBI surveillance team that originally found Shahzad in Connecticut “lost track of him” before he left for JFK airport, which meant authorities didn’t learn of his flight plans until a final passenger list was sent to the Customs and Border Protection agency minutes before take-off. Additionally, the airline Shahzad was flying, Emirates, did not adhere to an electronic message sent midday Monday asking for all airlines to make sure to check for an “important added name” to the no-fly list.

Of course, these oversights would be getting way more attention if investigators hadn't ultimately tracked down their man. "Clearly the guy was on the plane and shouldn’t have been," Mayor Bloomberg said. "We got lucky.”

Miley Cyrus Debuts Mature Look in 'Can't Be Tamed' Video

The music video for Miley Cyrus' "Can't Be Tamed" is out tonight and it's a Gaga Lite production, with a glammed-up Cyrus in the role of "the rarest creature on Earth, Avis Cyrus" (presumably a reference to the Latin word for bird, not the rental car company). Cyrus wears a bunch of flashy costumes (including a $25,000 corset), performs some surprisingly appealing choreography, and really, really wants us to know that she's not Hannah Montana anymore.

Gibbs Lashes Out At Fox News When Asked If Oil Spill Is 'Obama's Katrina'

After ex-FEMA director Michael Brown said on Fox News last night that the Obama administration wanted the oil spill to happen ("This president has never supported big oil, he's never supported offshore drilling, and now he has an excuse to shut it back down"), White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs offered some retaliation today. At a White House press briefing this afternoon, Fox’s Wendell Goler asked if the Gulf of Mexico oil spill could be thought of as "Obama’s Hurricane Katrina." And that was all that was needed to set Gibbs off:

"... For those who weren't let in on the big secret, Mr. Brown... intimated on Fox - and it wasn't, I will editorially say, didn't appear to be pushed back on real hard - that this spill was leaked on purpose in order for us to walk back our environmental and drilling decisions, and that the leak that we did on purpose got out of control and now is too big to contain," Gibbs said. "I'm not entirely sure that a factual answer that I might give to any one of your questions is gonna change the notion that your network put out the former FEMA director to make an accusation that the well had been purposefully set off in order to change an offshore drilling decision."

Haim's Death Due To Natural Causes, Not Drug-Related

Corey Haim died from natural causes, the Los Angeles County coroner announced today, explaining that a drug test revealed that drugs were not a "significant contributing factor” in the death of the actor at 38. Haim passed away from “damage to the air sacs in his lungs, pneumonia, and a hardening of his heart muscle with plaque build-up within the blood vessels,” according to the coroner. At the time of Haim's death, police said that an overdose was a possible cause of death. [People]

Bloomberg To Fight The 'Terror Gap' in Washington

Mayor Bloomberg will head to Washington tomorrow to discuss the current federal loophole that, believe it or not, allows people who are on the FBI’s Terror Watchlist to legally purchase guns and explosives. Members of Congress have rejected the request to add this provision - introduced under both the Bush and Obama administrations - due at least to an extent out of a fear of the gun lobby, which has strongly opposed the measure to, as Bloomberg puts it, "close the terror gap."

"We need Congress to have our back on this issue... it's upsetting that, so far, they haven't," Bloomberg said Tuesday. "There is no silver bullet, but we have to give law enforcement every tool we can. New York City remains at the top of the terrorist target list, something we were reminded of this weekend."

According to the Government Accountability Office, individuals on the FBI terrorist watchlist underwent firearm or explosives background checks 1,228 times in the past six years, and less than 10 percent (only 109!) were denied, The Huffington Post reported. Bloomberg will testify at a hearing Wednesday morning in front of the Senate’s homeland security committee.

Picasso Sells at Auction for World-Record Price

A 1932 Picasso painting sold for $106.5 million — a world-record auction price for a work of art — at Christie’s tonight. The painting, Nu au Plateau de Sculpteur (Nude, Green Leaves and Bust), was created by the painter in a single day and features Picasso’s mistress, Marie-Therese Walter. The winning bid came via telephone, but the Christie’s expert who took the call declined to say who he was bidding for. If this is a Mother's Day gift, the buyer's siblings are screwed.

Shahzad Received Training in Bomb-Making in Pakistan

Faisal Shahzad admitted to his role in the attempted Times Square car bombing and also informed investigators that he received bomb-making training in his native Pakistan, U.S. officials have revealed. The 30-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen, arrested late last night at JFK airport attempting to flee the country, reportedly confessed right away and “disclosed a connection” to a region in Pakistan near Afghanistan's border that is known to be a Taliban and al-Qaeda hotbed.

"After the arrest, Shahzad admitted that he had attempted to detonate a bomb in Times Square," the FBI complaint, which lists five charges against Shahzad, states. "He also admitted that he had recently received bomb-making training in Waziristan, Pakistan."

Attorney General Eric Holder said Shahzad has “provided useful information to authorities,” and he is said to be cooperating with the investigation. His first court appearance, which had been scheduled for today, was indefinitely postponed without explanation.

The complaint also states that Shahzad revealed to federal agents that he received a “series of phone calls” from Pakistan after he purchased the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder on April 24 that was used in the bomb attempt.

You Again Trailer: Woman on Woman Violence

You know what there is not enough of in this world? Women hating each other in movies about weddings. Seriously, there is not enough of this! If Bride Wars were playing 100 percent of the time, there would not be enough! So it is truly lucky that Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Sigourney Weaver have gotten together to bring us You Again, a movie about a mother and daughter (Bell and Curtis), who are reunited with their respective high-school nemeses on the occasion of a wedding, the perfect setting for four grown women to be catty and cruel to one another before learning to recognize their self-worth, get over the drama, and grow as people. At the end of this trailer, Betty White shows up to make a funny about Twitter — because another thing there is not enough of in this world is jokes about old people not understanding technology.

Inception Becomes Moderately Less Mysterious

Warner Bros. has released the plot synopsis of Inception, Christopher Nolan's supersecret summer movie starring Leonardo Dicaprio, so that we can have some idea what it's about. (If you consider everything having to do with this movie a spoiler, consider what follows a spoiler.) Dicaprio plays corporate spy Dom Cobb, the best man in the world at stealing secrets out of sleeping people's brains, which has made him lots of enemies. Cobb gets pulled in for one last redemptive, life-changing mission that doesn't involve extraction, but, does involve— dunh, dunh, dunh — inception: The mission is "not to steal an idea but to plant one." But, seriously, someone throw us a bone about Ellen Page's part already! [First Showing]

Party Lines Slideshow: Elias Koteas, Meryl Streep, Viggo Mortensen, and More at Speak Truth to Power

Who knew classic "that guy" Elias Koteas (Casey Jones from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!) would have so many fun stories about sitting next to athletes on flights? At last night's reading of Speak Truth to Power: Voices Beyond the Dark, a benefit for Habitat for Humanity that also featured Meryl Streep, Viggo Mortensen, Julianne Moore, Alfred Molina, and Marcia Gay Harden, we got Koteas to spill the beans on his recent in-flight run-in with Reggie Jackson. "He was so full of life. He showed me how to roll up a hat without wrinkling it. Like, a felt hat. He pushed it up and rolled it around and made it into this compact little thing, and then put it in his pocket. Then he takes it out and unfolds it and out pops this beautiful unwrinkled hat." Awesome! So is that the first time you’ve had a celebrity seatmate? "One time I was sitting next to Patrick Ewing in 1989. He was going off to be in some movie — he was playing the angel of death or something [Note: It was The Exorcist III]. That was the fall of 1989. Jesus. Patrick Ewing." See some celebrity quotes that aren't related to legendary New York athletes in our Party Lines slideshow.

Starbucks Patron Was Not Prepared for Tea to Be Hot

It's unclear how, exactly, Zeynep Inanli burned herself on some tea she bought at the Starbucks located at 44th and Third. All we know is that she alleges in a lawsuit that the tea was "unreasonably hot, in containers which were not safe." Our advice to Inanli: You should probably just assume the tea is going to be hot — because it's tea — and take appropriate precautions. Bonus advice: Don't put the balm on. [Reuters]

Christian Right Leader Nabbed Traveling With Gay Escort

Rekers, known mustache wearer.

A pair of writers at the Miami New Times are having trouble repressing their glee that they managed to snap (with their "hot-pink digital camera") George Alan Rekers, a right-wing Christian leader and anti-gay lobbyist, getting off a plane at Miami International Airport with a sizzling-hot gay escort. The prostitute, nicknamed "Lucien" by the paper, was available for hire on the gay-escort site Rentboy.com — home of such other celebrity boyfriends/escorts as Jason Preston, former lover of designer Marc Jacobs. Rekers wouldn't deny he found Lucien on that site, but he did say he'd only hired him to help while he was "recovering from surgery" — that's why he took him on an all-expenses paid ten-day trip through Europe. After all, Rekers did co-found the group Focus on the Family, which has been the bane of gay-rights groups since its creation in 1983, and he also is an officer of the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality, a gay-cure group. Someone like that would NEVER actually hire a gay hooker, right?

Here's the New Times' description of what happened. They had some fun with this:

The pictures on the Rentboy.com profile show a shirtless young man with delicate features, guileless eyes, and sun-kissed, hairless skin. The profile touts his "smooth, sweet, tight ass" and "perfectly built 8 inch cock (uncut)" and explains he is "sensual," "wild," and "up for anything" — as long you ask first. And as long as you pay. On April 13, the "rent boy" (whom we'll call Lucien) arrived at Miami International Airport on Iberian Airlines Flight 6123, after a ten-day, fully subsidized trip to Europe. He was soon followed out of customs by an old man with an atavistic mustache and a desperate blond comb-over, pushing an overburdened baggage cart. Reached by New Times before a trip to Bermuda, Rekers said he learned Lucien was a prostitute only midway through their vacation. "I had surgery," Rekers said, "and I can't lift luggage. That's why I hired him."

The Miami paper was quick to note, of course, that "medical problems didn't stop him from pushing the tottering baggage cart" through the airport.

Video: A Look at the Met and Brooklyn Museum’s New Fashion Exhibits

The main reason guests went to the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute ball last night was not to see and be seen and find out if they were important or intimidating enough to escape with a train unscathed. They went to see the Costume Institute's new exhibit on American fashion from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The pieces now on display at the Met were pulled from the Brooklyn Museum's collection; each museum is running an exhibit simultaneously. New York fashion director Harriet Mays Powell stopped by both museums for a preview. Check out some of the dresses in the video.

Was Lauren Santo Domingo the Best Dressed at the Met Gala Last Night?

Cathy Horyn writes that the looks on the Met Gala's red carpet "had a scripted feel." Ballgowns at a ball — how ... inventive. And you know Cathy finds something severe when she uncharacteristically tacks "man" onto the end of a sentence, as in: "So many trains, man." But man, she is so right. "[T]he 2010 script called for elegant dresses and lots of diamond jewelry from the usual willing lenders," she continues. The looks didn't seem that unusual for a red carpet, though the smattering of short dresses stood out this time. Had Lady Gaga made the carpet in that Prada tux, she might have been the most unusually dressed, yet also one of the most simplistic. But though critics so often bemoan beige on the red carpet, Horyn gives high marks to Vogue editor Lauren Santo Domingo.

I thought Lauren Santo Domingo looked terrific in a sparkly, long-sleeved beige dress by Proenza Schouler. It suited her height and coloring and it’s nice to see long sleeves.

Horyn loves her a fancy sleeve (she couldn't get over Ivanka Trump's Vera Wang wedding sleeves). Japanese Vogue's fashion director, Anna Dello Russo, also loved Santo Domingo. "[M]y fav at met ball?lauren santo domingo in proenza schouler," she tweeted this morning. Santo Domingo told Horyn she was channeling "Tom Ford." Should she also be commended for sourcing inspiration from an American designer at an event honoring the American woman? Not necessarily, according to Anna Wintour, who wore Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld, which is all kinds of foreign. "Well, if you see the exhibition, they’re all wearing French clothes," Anna explained. As if she'd be a traitor at her own ball.

Governor Paterson Dares Legislature to Shut Down Government

As the state legislature has worked toward completing an overdue budget bill for the past month and counting, Governor Paterson has been sending them emergency budget extenders that keep the government operating for a week or two at a time. He's also tried to get them to pass a one-day-a-week furlough (no work, no pay) for 100,000 state employees, which would save the state $30 million a week, but so far, they've ignored it. But they can't anymore. Paterson announced today his intention to include the furlough in the next emergency budget extender.

Lawmakers now face a pretty bleak pair of options: pass the furlough — which the state worker unions obviously despise, and plan to sue over — or shut down government. State Senate Conference Leader John Sampson, for one, says he'll swallow the furlough if it means keeping the government running. Of course, as Sheldon Silver noted today, a third option would be passing an actual budget. But let's not talk crazy.

VIDEO: Silly Treadmill Cat, That’s Not How A Treadmill Works!

Cats: Will they EVER fully grasp human concepts? And if they ever do, will the gears of the internet instantly stop turning, turn to rust, and freeze the earth? I’m guessing ‘yes’ and ‘definitely’ to those two questions, respectively.

Here’s a video of a cat that just does not want to run on a treadmill. It’s like me at the gym, if I were a cat and made it as far as the gym, and people around me were like “awww that’s adorable!” instead of “why did you come into this gym and start that treadmill then lie on it?”

Blake Lively Changed Into a T-Shirt and Sneakers for the Met Gala After-Party

Times Square Car Bomber Looks Astoundingly Like Every A**hole From College

Christina Kolbe Is Over Label Whores, the Biker-Chic Trend

Christina Kolbe at Mafalda.

Despite a daunting introduction to the industry, boutique owner Christina Kolbe has made a name for herself throughout the fashion realm. She was discovered at 13 and modeled as a teen. "I didn’t like the modeling world — I feel for the girls who are thrust into that," she says. "I always wanted to be the one art directing or styling the shoot rather than the little thing on the chair being told what to do." After taking a break from modeling, she became the buyer for Steven Alan. "It was an amazing time in the fashion industry then, before Zara and Forever 21," she says. "It was really about discovering new talent rather than replicating established brands."

She left Steven Alan to handle sales for a multi-line showroom, working with designers like Catherine Holstein, Kimberly Ovitz, and Raf Simons. There, the vintage collection she’d been amassing since high school served her well: She was known for lending out rare pieces to designers for inspiration. Earlier this year she launched Mafalda, a Brooklyn vintage boutique, and now she's readying her latest reincarnation — designer. Her debut collection is scheduled to land in stores next spring. We talked to Kolbe about the sixties resurgence, fast fashion, and the problem with label whores.

What prompted the launch of Mafalda?
I had become bored with what was going on in the industry, especially the whole biker-chic, rock-and-roll trend. Everything has been so redundant for the last couple years. I had always planned on opening a store at some point, and the sixties and seventies influence was what was really exciting to me.

What sets it apart from the slew of other vintage stores?
I talk to so many vintage collectors, and a lot of them are die-hard label whores. For me, it’s not about that; it’s about the piece. Vintage used to be perceived as more kitschy and costume-y; my idea of vintage is mixing it in with current pieces and making it feel relevant.

How has the fashion industry changed since your days at Steven Alan?
After Steven Alan, I traveled and went away to England for a while. When I came back, H&M was exploding. It used to be this club, where you really had to search people out and read the European magazines like Face and i-D to discover new designers. Now anybody can get in on it — fashion isn’t so exclusive anymore.

What’s your upcoming line like?
I wouldn’t call it trendy. I love classic, limitless pieces that you can wear every day, any season.

Who are your favorite designers?
Dries Van Noten, Phoebe Philo, Acne, Rachel Comey, Peter Pilotto, Tomas Maier.

What’s the first designer item you bought?
I grew up in Brooklyn near Century 21, which at that time stocked a lot of Margiela and Helmut Lang. I got the Margiela Tabi boots for my twentieth birthday.

Where do you like to shop?
IF is an institution. I also love 45RPM and Bird for the contemporary designers, and I make it to the shoe department at Barneys once a season to round it all out.

How would you describe your personal style?
I’m a Gemini, and my style has different personalities. It would be so simple to be one of those people who wear the same uniform every day, but if that were the case then I don’t think I should be working in the fashion industry. I’m inspired every day to come up with something new.

What trends are you appreciating now?
Sixties and seventies styles mixed with nineties minimalism, like a bias-cut dress paired with a sixties jacket and big platform shoes.

What should every woman have in her closet?
Originality and the confidence to wear whatever they want. Women need to dress for themselves, not whatever's dictated by the blogs or magazines.

What’s something you never leave the house without?
A simple, white-gold-and-diamond cross necklace my sister gave me for my nineteenth birthday.

Here’s The Best Thing to Come Out of the Real Housewives of New Jersey Premiere

Josh Appelbaum is a visionary. That’s because this young, forward-thinking man had the botoxed-horse sense to make a series of Real Housewives of New Jersey t-shirts to sport to the premiere party. And then, key to this story, managed to snap a pic with Danielle P.Wh. Staub. And Oh Snap that pic he did. All the classic are there: Prostitution Whore, F*cking Engaged 19 Times, Arrested and Name Change, right underneath those all too eager and sweet faces. And according to Josh’s hilarious Twitter:

Danielle from RHONJ is bats*it crazy but she serves some real tranny fierce up! Crimped weave +metallic dress boo!

Couldn’t have tweeted it better ourselves.

Moving a-shlong, we had the pleasure of running into Jill Zarin yesterday in the makeup room at CNN. Jill, who is always above and beyond friendly, assured us that if you think the New York housewives had issues this season, the Jersey girls really bring the drama. Without giving anything away, mainly so that Andy Cohen doesn’t hate me, we heard rumor of an arrest this season that may or may not involve weave pulling.

Jill was even nice enough to invite me along to the Real Housewives of New Jersey premiere party with her at The Brownstone, famously owned my The Manzos. But in what could be described as “My Biggest Mistake of All Time,” I turned down her offer, as I was already attending an equally shmancy premiere party at a friend’s house that night replete with cannolis, pasta, and no weapons of any kind.

On to the premiere:

The Jersey women are not my favorite Housewives season by far, if only because they seem a bit one dimensional. Sure, finding out that making tomato sauce on your period is bad luck will come in handy none day, but the constant bickering between everyone vs. Danielle seems old hat.

That being said, Danielle is a monster. Really, if they let her loose in Central Park there would be rabid animal warnings on NY1. Teresa Guidice, her fellow smallforeheads (kids) and Caroline Manzo are just getting revved up for what looks like an amazing season of 911 dialings. And what about the owner of Posche?? She was awesome in Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers, and I think will be a reliable source of JerseyLolz this season.

On the bright side, Albie is still hot, Caroline’s husband looks great, and the party consensus was that Dina’s daughter Lexy might be on the verge of turning into a huge slut following her transformation in Greece. She’s Outta Control Tony Danza!

Scientific Study: Hot Women Cause Stress

A new scientific study has concluded what blues songs have been telling us for years – Attractive women are bad for the heart:

The subjects’ levels of cortisol, a hormone released in response to stress, was tested before and after the interaction. The researchers conclude that, when in the presence of a desirable female, the average male’s production of cortisol shoots up by roughly the same amount as it would if he were in the process of jumping from an airplane.

Short, extreme bursts of cortisol can be bad for the heart. Chronic exposure can lead to adult diabetes and impotency.

How’d they come to this conclusion? The study consisted of scientists watching old Droopy cartoons:

NOTE: The study doesn’t apply to pop culture bloggers, who are so accustomed to having hordes of attractive ladies constantly whip bras at them, they’re completely desensitized to any stressful reactions. It’s just the cross they gotta bear.

Best Internet Ad Of The Day And Also A Poem

I had no idea I wanted this until I saw an ad for it.

Yup, that sounds great.  Put me down for as many audio books as you can fit in my apartment.

Here’s my problem, though. For a few minutes, I for some reason or another thought Dustin Hoffman’s name was Dennis Hoffman.  I don’t know why it happened.  It just happened; there was nothing I could do about it.  And during those minutes, those weird, weird minutes, I wrote a really perfect Dr. Seuss style poem about Dustin Hoffman reading Dr. Seuss.  But, it makes no sense because I kept calling Dustin Hoffman Dennis Hoffman.  I am, however, proud of the poem to the point where I will post it anyway despite it not at all being a thing.  So, here it is.  My Dennis Hoffman poem:

That Hoffmany Dennis, on a dot com called audible,

Reads Dr. Seuss, and that no doubt is laudable.

On a traditional scale I will use to rate Dennis,

If a six is not adequate, surely a ten is.

Fashion Caucus Determined to Copyright Clothing Designs

The fashion caucus lives in a SHOE, you know.

An official fashion caucus was recently formed on Capitol Hill with the express purpose of pushing legislation through Congress that would stifle the knockoff industry, something that has been driving the CFDA mad for ages. "We are working on a bill now for copyright protection and we are going to pass it this session," fashion caucus co-chair Carolyn B. Maloney (D., N.Y.) told WWD. If passed, the new bill would allow designers to register apparel, handbags, footwear, belts, and eyeglass frames for three years of copyright protection.

“Counterfeits with pirated designs and fake labels are absolutely prohibited by law, but it doesn’t provide any protection for the same fashion design when the pirates omit the label,” said Maloney. “One of the challenges we have is that people will go to a show and just sketch it, and by the end of the day, print it out and ship it out on the Internet to another country to make a copy of it. We’ve got to stop that and we will stop that.”

While the CFDA obviously supports the bill, the American Apparel & Footwear Association, among other apparel companies, doesn't like it as it stands, which could make passing it impossible. That happened before, when the Design Piracy Prohibition Act got stuck in committees because the industry as a whole couldn't agree on what it should say.

The battle to copy-protect clothing is so trying that high-fashion labels themselves sometimes give up. Last year Trovata gave up on its landmark case against knockoff giant Forever 21, which the label accused of knocking off some tops, after a two-year battle.

If designers and the caucus can push the new bill through, what will become of Forever 21 and other stores like it, where we — the people with budgets — shop? We'll all look hideous! And dated! You know, maybe! The real winners here, aside from the designers, will be the rich snobs who don't want to believe cheap things they may refuse to buy can look just as good as expensive ones. And to those people we say: Does Fiji water really taste better than Poland Spring?

Looks Like Mickey Rourke Got A Little Bit Of Arm To Go With That Face

Last week I explained how porn star Jenna Jameson and martial artist Tito Ortiz broke up by writing out what your half of the conversation would have sounded like if you were told about the break up on the phone.  I will now use that same method to reveal what your half of the conversation would sound like if you were told on the phone about Mickey Rourke’s torn arm ligament.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

YOU:  Hello, this is my telephone.

Muffled phone voice, muffled phone voice, muffled phone voice.

YOU:  Oh my, that’s terrible.

Muffled phone voice, muffled phone voice.

YOU:  Ew.

Muffled phone voice.

YOU:  Ew.

Muffled phone voice, muffled phone voice, muffled phone voice, muffled phone voice.

YOU:  Ew.

Muffled phone voice, muffled phone voice.

YOU:  Ha, like his face!

That was you finding out that Mickey Rourke tore a ligament in his arm while arm wrestling a bunch of men from a rugby team in London.  And then you were told that the ligament was entirely separated from the bone.  Then you were told his whole arm turned black the next day.  Then you found out he waited 6 months to go to the doctor and get surgery.  And finally were you told that the surgery was unsuccessful and that Rourke says his arm “looks a little retarded.”

Thanks, Contact Music.

Phillies Fan Attempts To Bring Back “Don’t Tase Me Bro” Meme

Martyrs come in many forms: Jesus, Other Forms, Jesus, and so on. The modern-day martyr may not wear sandals and preach morals like Other Forms did, but this modern-day martyr is no less important, showing an unselfish willingness to run on the field at a Phillies game and sacrifice his ability to move his muscles all in the glorious pursuit of attempting to bring back the “Don’t tase me, bro!” internet meme.

Sadly, as both Hitler and the Subway Rickrollers found out the hard way, when a meme is dead, that meme is dead, and no dramatic act is gonna make us start quoting the thing again, no matter how perfectly applicable it may be. Let this fan’s motionless body be a lesson to any righteous individuals out there preparing a Chocolate Rain letterbomb:

O.M.Glee No: Will Schuester is Back. And Rapping. Again.

(Right, Billboard Magazine’s winning entry in the “Photoshop a Glee Cover in 4.5 Seconds” Competition. Click to enlarge.)

Glee is one of those shows that you either love or hate. Mr. Schuester rapping is one of those things that you either hate or have already cut your ears off and thrown them into the wind with a shrug and newfound pep in your deaf step.

In fact, Matthew Morrison’s rapping was so soul-crushing last half-season that we went so far as to create a petition begging the Powers that Glee to ban this phenomenon for good. And 580 of you agreed with us!! That’s, like, .0000092% of the people that watch. And in this economy, you can’t really afford to turn that many potential audience members away.

Well, guess what? They’ve done it again. And oh… they’ve really topped themselves.

Ladies and gentlemen, Will Schuester presents, as part of Whitest Things Ever Productions Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby”:

Oh God. This is just going to be. So. Painfulll.

You can watch this on tonight’s episode of Glee – “Bad Reputation” — and listen to the rest of the songs here.
