Shahid Kapoor talks about his upcoming films and more with Subhash K Jha.
Badmaash Company is giving you a real badmaash actor's reputation, interfering, bullying, non-co-operating?
Nahin yaar. Why don't you ask the director Parmeet Sethi if there's any truth to all this? We don't argue about ganjis and tee-shirts. We focus on my acting, not on accessories. Of course I do contribute to my films. Even the simplest of moves are turned into disputes. But the limit was when it was reported that me and Vishal Bhardwaj came to blows over Kaminey. Can you imagine me coming to blows with anyone?
Badmaash Company is the first film where you're doing so many disguises?
This is the first time I've so much makeup. In about twenty minutes of the film I change into various disguises. We didn't know what I should look like. So we tried all kinds of stuff. My favourite disguise is that of a balding guy. No one could recognize me, not even my co-stars Anushka Sharma, Meiyang Chang and Vir Das.
You seemed to be having a lot of fun playing the teacher in Paathshaala?
That's partly acting (laughs). But I love kids. It was quite a task for the director Milind Ukey and producer Ahmed Khan to handle that large bunch of kids. But the children were so spontaneous. I had fun learning from them. I actually unlearnt a lot of notions about acting watching them. They took me back to the basics of acting.
Were you disappointed when Paathshaala didn't do well?
Not really yaar. It was a very small film. I worked in it for just seven days. It was never meant to be pitched as a Shahid Kapoor starrer. By the time the film came out I decided to go out and promote it a little. Though my friend the film's producer Ahmed Khan felt my role should not be publicized, we all finally felt, why not go out and promote a film we all believed in? It has finally recovered its cost. That's what counts. It was never meant to be a blockbuster. I'm glad Ahmed and his wife started off their production company on a positive note.
You've two releases coming up.
Yes Badmaash Company Then there is Milenge Milenge. My days are pretty packed with dubbing, promotion and other activities. I've just shot for ad for PETA and a music video for Badmaash Company. I've been keeping myself awake on black coffee, my only vice. I'm finishing a lot of stuff, meeting a lot of people.
How is it getting ready for Mausam?
I'm getting into my dad's film. I'll of course accept another film if something truly exceptional comes along. Otherwise nothing until dad's film finishes. As an actor I'd consider myself lucky if I get one good script a year. Hit films don't necessarily mean good films. I think it's very important for me to work with good scripts and good directors.
So far how has your preparation for you dad's film Mausam been?
We did a few workshops. I spent 4-5 days discussing acting with Dad. At the moment I'm the spotboy-cum-assistant-cum-odd job boy. At the same time I've also started a little bit of work with my Dad on the script. There's so much to do. Yeh to ghar ki picture hai. I'm responsible for everything. I'm really enjoying this process. In the one year that I'll be on Mausam, I'll get to learn a lot from Dad.

Chase has released and if the ongoing tussle between director Jagmohan Mundhra and producer Anuuj Saxena wasn't enough, there is more addition to the drama. One of the lyricists in the film, Prashant Vasl, is miffed with the makers since his name has gone missing from the credit details on the music album. Worse, his name has been replaced by a much established Jalees Sherwani, something which continues to puzzle the lyricist who has been knocking the doors of Bollywood for some time now.
"I have written the much talked about song 'Raat Ki Sanson Mein Uljhi Hai Koi Baat', a song of seduction picturised on Udita Goswami. However, to my shock, the crediting has gone to Jaless Sherwani. The song is a turning point in a film but on the contrary it has turned out to be a sad point for me", says Vasl.
The song plays in the film when Udita comes up with a sensual song and dance performance to confirm if the character played by Anuuj Saxena is indeed in a comatose state as projected by him.
Incidentally, it was Sherwani himself who informed Vasl about the error. "Yes, it was Jalees who informed me about it. He was extremely shocked & embarrassed to see his name in my place. Jalees bhai assured me that he is ready to tell the truth and do all that was required", says Vasl.
So what did the miffed lyricist eventually do?
"Well, I spoke to Jag Mundhra, Executive Producer Krishna Banerjee and music composer Udbhav Ojha about this", says Vasl, "They all are quite concerned about it. I also sent a SMS to Anuuj about this, bringing to his knowledge 'the error!' Soon after that, Pooja Kashyap, COO, Maverick called me and said she was quite sorry for the mistake (!)."
This was not an error which was noticed by all only last week. In fact it was way back on 16th April when Vasl had brought up this topic at the music launch party of Chase.
"I had observed then itself that my name didn't appear amongst lyricists. Udbhav took up the matter with Pooja Kashyap to which she told him - 'I will make the corrections immediately'. When Udbhav suggested that it could be announced from the stage that 'by mistake' Prashant Vasl's name has been omitted, she told him - 'In that case Anuj will be very angry as he isn't aware of this'. I took her point & despite being called on stage, I never mentioned anything about it. Even when I was leaving, I didn't say anything to Anuuj who came to see me off. I did all this just to save Pooja of any embarrassment", says Vasl in a hurt tone.
Later, Pooja and Vasl did have a conversation where the latter advised her to take care of the error by way of the production house publishing 'the unintentional error' and regretting in trade magazines and internet. "Yet again, Pooja assured me that she would do the needful. I hope she does it now", signs Vasl.
When informed, Anuuj regretted the episode. He apologised to Vasl for the mistake and assured him that this would indeed be taken care of. "Yes, I am aware about these proceedings", says Anuuj, "I apologised to Prashant for this glaring mistake. I have committed to issue a note/release to all the trade papers. Also, the next lot of CDs will also carry the corrected crediting. I am feeling quite bad for this mess up."
Hope this should keep Vasl happy and settle the controversy once for and all.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 4 May 2010 | 3:45 am Barbara Mori reveals future plansSince she signed Kites opposite Hrithik Roshan, Mexican actor Barbara Mori has been constantly in the news, thanks to her sizzling chemistry with Roshan, both on and off screen.Source: | 4 May 2010 | 3:42 am All eyes on Housefull - Times of India

After Shah Rukh Khan in My Name Is Khan, it is Abhishek Bachchan's turn to be marketed on a global platform by Fox Star.
The company plans to unleash the Abhishek starrer Dum Maro Dum on the same level globally as Khan. Goa, Bachchan and Bipasha Basu are the heady mix that Fox are counting on to entice an international audience.
In the meanwhile, Fox Star and their global equivalent Fox Searchlight are hoping to see My Name Is Khan (MNIK) do a Slumdog Millionaire in the US, thereby paving the way for the second Bollywood release Dum Maro Dum from Fox.
Fox's CEO Vijay Singh is super-optimistic. "We're only releasing MNIK in 2 New York theatres on May 5, But please remember, Slumdog Millionaire was initially released in only 5 theatres in New York. We hope to add more theatres to Khan after the first week."
The film then goes to France in May, Germany in June, Spain in July, Russia in August and Italy in September.
All the centres barring Germany would screen the original film in its shortened version with English subtitles.
Informs Vijay Singh, "Germany is traditionally a country that accepts dubbed versions of films from all over the world. In other countries the subtitled versions work better."
Having tested the water Fox Star, is now ready to market Rohan Sippy's Dum Maro Dum on the same global pattern as MNIK.

The super excited Sonam has been posting pictures from the sets of Thank You to keep her twitter followers in the loop...and shall we say Sonam is completely glowing.
Sonam started the shoot for the film yesterday in Canada and made sure her fans know that she is off to do a fun film as she tweeted saying " Taking off guys...gonna start my super fun, super commercial movie Thankyou...directed by Anees Bazmee...yaba daba doooo." This one would sure be fun as we will get to see Sonam doing something closer, lighter than her earlier roles.
Here's the picture of her in Canada with her friends/crew members or as Sonam puts it in her tweets "First Day on Thankyou set with my girls ...who make me look faaaaab".
For the first time Sonam would get to let her hair down and put the funny cap on. Now in Vancouver for the shoot, we wish the Kapoor girl the very best of luck and also a big Thank You from her fans who would get to see their favourite star in something different.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 3 May 2010 | 5:49 am "Housefull isn't just random buffoonery" - Arjun Rampal
You dial his mobile and you hear, 'Apni Toh Jaise Taise'. Then you start to think that Arjun Rampal is in a splendid mood. He'll give you time, enough for you to finish the side A of your recorder. Suddenly the caller tune stops and you hear the voice. The same voice which ladies go ga-ga- about. Then you notice that Mr Rampal is what he always is - relaxed and composed...like a lion sitting in his den awaiting his prey. That's Arjun. I like to call him the warrior. This untamed actor has everything in control, for the moment - his films and his female fans, and despite all the plaudits, a fire still burns inside Arjun Rampal as he fights it out in the career of eternal battle for perfection. And that says it all in his revised resume - he is a National Award winner now. Yipee! You call him for an interview and he speaks of the role with extraordinary passion, a highly accomplished actor who thinks deeply about his craft and is happy to talk of it. The way he warms to the subject makes it clear his aim in every film is to try to 'be' the character. So, we let him 'be' who he is...the actor...the character. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent talks to the lion without visiting his den because you just don't want to fall prey to his intelligence, attitude and good looks. Envy has a new name - Arjun Rampal.
Is this the right song to play on your phone as the film is having Housefull boards all across the globe? (Laughs) It certainly is. Yes, I am very happy with the response what Housefull is getting. It's bringing back the 'Houseful' boards out again after a long, long time. I also think that this is the song which everyone should have on their caller tunes.
And what about Arjun Rampal's humour?
(A long pause) I think you'll have to sit down with me after two drinks and find out (laughs).
...and a mad man like Sajid Khan who comes across as a serious person?
I've known him for quite a while now and initially the perception you get of Sajid from the outside is that he is a crazy guy which is not wrong. It's absolutely right. But there is also an intelligent side to Sajid. He is a complete film buff and when he is directing the film, he directs it as if he is an audience. It depends on how he is going to react, what he is going to do, etc. He has a great imagination and there is lots of madness in him too. But there is a lot of sense in that madness. I've never seen anybody like Sajid. He can even predict the T-20 matches. That's how mad he is and he is right eight out of ten times. A complete conviction, that's Sajid Khan.
What's the feedback you received from your kids?
I was so pleased that they liked Housefull. After Rock On, this is the film I've taken them to see. They enjoyed a lot and laughed a lot. But I guess they'll have to wait for a bit now because the next two to three films I'm doing are going to be a bit serious and may not be fit for them (laughs).
Sajid is one director who sticks to the safe route, isn't it? Then you see directors like Dibakar, Farhan, Anurag Kashyap, Shimit, etc who tread different paths. Whoever the filmmakers and whichever the film, I feel at the end of the day, any film has to be entertaining. And entertainment doesn't only mean 'laughter'. Forest Gump, Rain Man, Avatar, etc are films with strong messages but they all are entertaining. Dev D was entertaining, Rock On was too and so is Housefull. Each films aesthetics and style can be different but at the end of the day, all filmmakers work towards making an entertaining film. Sajid has done the same.
Three gorgeous ladies in the film and their confession - Arjun Rampal is hot.
(Laughs) They're hot too (laughs). I got to know more of Lara while filming Housefull. I've done a film with her called Elaan. With Deepika, it was a re-union after Om Shanti Om. She is fantastic. She has blossomed. Jiah is a surprise package in the film. Some of her scenes with Akshay in the film are fantastic. I think Sajid has justified each character very well.
So, laughter is the best medicine?
I don't believe in it. But if it s medicine that makes you laugh, I don't mind having it (laughs). Stupid laughter doesn't make sense. I don't really like slapstick comedy even though there are situations in Housefull where there are scenes with such humour. But overall, it's a complicated plot. Housefull isn't a film where you leave your brains at home and come. Housefull isn't just a random buffoonery.
Akshay Kumar is?

Riteish Deshmukh is?

Jiah Khan is?

Deepika Padukone is?

Lara Dutta is?

Karan Johar is currently in New York for the release of the English version of My Name Is Khan in two theatres of New York on May 5.
"It is meant for the non-NRI audience. Its crisper sharper cut and we hope to create a new market for Bollywood films," says Karan.
Karan Johar who left for New York for three weeks on Tuesday night has discovered a new side to his personality that he never knew existed. Hosting the show Lift Kara De which ended last week, he discovered how little people from privileged classes gave to the needy.
Says Karan, "I don't know how successful the show was. But it put me in touch with the real world. The show was about philanthropy and I understood the joy there is in giving. To meet all those needy individuals who came on the show connected me to a reality that most of us in the entertainment industry are cut off from the outside world."
Karan was also bowled over by the amazing connectivity between the audience and the stars.
Says Karan, "Akshay Kumar with whom I recorded my last episode of Lift Kara De has such an amazing and genuine bonding with his fans. Who says stars don't care for the common man?"
Though the TRPs of Lift Kara De were not too encouraging Karan decided after hosting the show is to make a cinema that is reflective of a far larger truth than the elitist lifestyle his characters almost always assume.
Immediately on the anvil after his return from New York is Season 3 of Koffee With Karan. "I start work on that in July. But it won't be in the same chatty mood any more. I think two recent events my film My Name Is Khan and to a lesser extent the TV show Lift Kara De has made me less self-centered. They've made me look outward into the world outside."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 3 May 2010 | 3:26 am
