There have been instances in the past where Bollywood filmmakers have requested their fellow colleagues to give them a required film title, which they might have rights for. However, what Madhur has done is definitely a first.
Madhur Bhandarkar, the new age realistic director, of late has been hunting for a single word title for his next film that stars Kareena Kapoor. And the title that he was looking at was Heroine. As luck would have it, the said title was already booked by Guddu Dhanoa, who has earlier made films like Deewana, Big Brother, Kismat, Bichhoo, Elaan etc. Madhur, instead of hitting upon a roadblock, hit upon a novel solution by deciding to donate Rs. 1 lakh to Guddu Dhanoa's charity and, thus became the owner of the title!
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Madhur said, "It was really nice of Guddu to have given the title to me. But I am not quite sure that if I am going to retain the same title for my film, as the film is in its premature stages. I will be in a position to say anything only after I get the final script in place."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 Apr 2010 | 6:08 am 'Lord of the Rings' director is knighted

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 29 Apr 2010 | 5:29 am "It was very scary wakeup call for Rohit Bal" - Arjun Rampal
Arjun Rampal's mentor and pal, designer Rohit Bal, is out of hospital and back home recuperating slowly after a heart attack.
Says Arjun, "It was a scary wake-up call for Rohit. He is recovering. But it will take time. He will now be far more cautious about his health. Who doesn't want to live? We all need to exercise restrain and keep regular hours."
Arjun has two contrasting releases Raajneeti and Housefull coming up one after another. Everyone is wondering why he is missing from the promotional songs of Housefull.
Arjun says, "The 'Apni To Jaise Taise' track is my song. I am very happy with both Raajneeti and Housefull. And now I start shooting for Ra.One and Don 2."
While he's tight-lipped about his roles in both these Shah Rukh Khan starrers, he does let out that his lame character Jasjit in Don 2 will lose his limp in the sequel.
"Don't ask me how. In two years, he just lost it. That's how Farhan Akhtar sees my character. I will go by his vision."
For the villain's role in Ra.One, Arjun will be getting into an elaborate get-up and make-up for the first time.
Argues Arjun, "Why first time? I had a special look for Rock On. I had my hair till my waist. I guess when we do the sequel I'll have to grow my hair again. Or we can say the guy lost his hair while the audience was not looking."
About being cast as a villain, first by Farah Khan in Om Shanti Om then Shah Rukh in Ra. One, Arjun says, "I suppose I've a face that renders itself well to a different kind of villainy. My black characters are not over-the-top."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 Apr 2010 | 5:27 am Katrina observed Priyanka Vadra for RaajneetiIf you think actress Katrina Kaif’s poise and demeanour in the promos of Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti look familiar, you are right. In what could be seen as a radical departure from the norm, producer Sajid Nadiadwala has decided to do away with any press screening of his new summer biggie Housefull which releases tomorrow.
His logic for this somewhat historic move is simple. Why allow adverse comments to go out when the film is about to be released?
Admitting he has aborted press screenings for Housefull, Nadiadwala says, "When my last film Kambakkht Ishq was released, the reviews were up on a day before, on Thursday. None of them did my film any good. Now we have Twitter where comments are spread faster than viruses on the computer. It may sound arrogant but I'm not holding press shows because my film can't afford the criticism."
But why is Nadiadwala so sure the press won't like the film?
Says the producer, "My film has a monkey slapping Akshay Kumar, a dog, a tiger and sleepwalking father who suddenly comes awake to sing, 'Papa Jag Jayega'. It isn't the most logical of films. It's for the masses. So let the critics watch it with the masses on Friday."
However, Nadiadwala has been gracious enough to call up every critic in Mumbai personally to explain his position. "I hope they understand. They're all my friends. In fact I have made the stars of my next film Anjaana Anjaani sign a NDA (non disclosure agreement) to keep information away from Twitter. If critics are willing to do the same I'd be happy to show them my film in advance. But the habit of tweeting and posting comments on new films on Facebook has to stop. It's very damaging."
Adds Housefull director Sajid Khan, "I have no clue why the press screening is not on. I'm not the producer, merely the director."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 Apr 2010 | 4:50 am "I'd love to work with Shah Rukh Khan" - Barbara Mori
Last week, we heard the news and saw the picture in one of our tabloid newspapers of Barbara Mori along with her new close friends Suzanne Roshan and Hrithik Roshan partying in Mumbai. Well, it was now confession time for the beautiful Barbara Mori when we met her at the Oakwood serviced apartment in Juhu yesterday. Yes, the Mexican actress revealed for the first time her wish list and how it is to be such great friends with Suzanne than Hrithik. On asking her the question, Mori was quick to respond, "My best friend in India is Suzanne Roshan. I am good friends with Hrithik too. But Suzanne really gets a bit personal when it comes to taking care of me. She will keep me at bay from the 'do not do that' or 'do not go for that' list."
Barbara also has her wish list ready when it comes to work and friendship. Just four days ago, Hrithik and Suzanne took Barbara to meet Shah Rukh Khan. The rest, well, Barbara will tell you, "I met Shah Rukh Khan because Suzanne insisted me to meet Gauri and her husband. She told me that Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are the nicest people I will ever come across in India."
The leading lady of Kites has now seen the palace like mammoth Mannat. But what about the 'king' living in there? What about him? To which Mori answers, "Shah Rukh Khan was really nice as a host on that day and as a person. Shah Rukh has got a very big heart. He takes care of his guests a lot."
And on asking her whether she would want to work with the 'king' in the near future, she replies, "Yes, I'd love to work with Shah Rukh Khan. I haven't seen any films of his but I can say he is a great actor from what I hear and have been told from Suzanne and Hrithik."
One thing's for sure; Barbara Mori isn't a one trip pony. And with a wish list to work with Shah Rukh Khan, you just can't say when you'll be seeing this belleza Barbara soon in her second Hindi feature film, unless our very own SRK does a Mexican film. You never know. Fingers crossed.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 Apr 2010 | 4:26 am Arjun Rampal keeps low profile post grandmother's demise
It's a bitter sweet moment for Arjun Rampal, where on one end his multi starrer film Housefull is up for release, on the other hand he is drowned in grief due to a personal tragedy.
Arjun is faced with the demise of his grandmother whom he was extremely close too. It's a personal loss for the actor and he is therefore keeping a low profile. While all the other actors are going all out and promoting the film, it seems like Arjun might take time away from some of the activities as he comes to terms with this sudden misfortune.

'Coming of age' is what the headline screams... something that we openly admit and bow over heads to. We also bow over heads to the facts that Deepika has shared with the readers in this issue. She says, "I have been lucky that I haven't been slaughtered very often. My style really hasn't been affected simply because I don't want to give any importance to journalists who don't understand fashion and don't really dress well themselves." Talking about her style, Deepika says, "My style has been pretty basic, but, it is evolving and I am experimenting with new silhouettes. Overall, though, I just believe in being well-turned-out at all times."

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 29 Apr 2010 | 3:45 am Aishwarya invites Vipul Shah to shoot pending song with Akshay in London
At the moment Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is trying to cope up with the most impossible schedule ever faced by an actress. She was in the US to bring in her third marriage anniversary. Then Cannes for the film festival. In-between she must also start all the promotional work for Mani Ratnam's Raavan.
And now with Akshay Kumar in London for 90 days to shoot for Nikhil Advani's Patiala House, where does that leave Vipul Shah with his one remaining song to be shot for Action Replay?
Not in a very happy position! Neither Aishwarya nor Akshay Kumar has any dates to spare for the song. And Vipul won't release the film without the song, which he considers extremely vital to the plot.
So here's the ever-accommodating Aishwarya's plan: She generously suggested that Vipul flies down with his unit to London. She herself would fly from Cannes to London and shoot the song with Akshay in night shifts. That is when Akshay wouldn't be shooting for Patiala House.
Says Vipul, "It is very generous and considerate of Aishwarya to suggest that she'd join me from Cannes, that I come to London and shoot the song with her and Akshay. She is really working very hard. Both Akshay and she have a genuine date problem."
Vipul is in two minds whether he should take up his indefatigable leading lady's kind offer. "I need four days to shoot my song. I don't know if I can impose on director Nikhil Advani's time and money like this. Let's see. In any case, I've now postponed the release of Action Replayy from July to September."
Since the other big, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Raavan, releases in June, Vipul thought it wise to postpone his film to a later date.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 Apr 2010 | 3:42 am Shilpa, Raj plan Indian Football Premier LeagueAlmost a month ago, buzz was that Shilpa Shetty and husband Raj Kundra planned to kick-off a football league on the lines of cricket’s Indian Premier League.Source: | 29 Apr 2010 | 3:34 am LiLo leading a messy life in an unclean homeWashington (ANI): Lindsay Lohan is leading a messy life in an unclean home with "spilled coffee and drinks around the rooms, and stuff all over, clothes everywhere," it has emerged. The world and its favourite senorita would now get to hear Hrithik Roshan speak in Spanish. Besides the 2-hour-10-minute Hindi version and the 1-hour-30-minute English versions of Kites which are releasing worldwide in May, there will now be a Spanish version of the film to come a little later after the two other versions.
Confirming this development Sanjeev Lamba CEO of Reliance Big Pictures says, "Yes we are indeed on the verge of closing a deal for a Spanish version of Kites. While the Hindi and English versions would cater to a mass audience across the globe keen on seeing Hrithik Roshan, we must not disregard Barbara Mori's fan following in the Spanish belt."
According to Lamba, the global interest in watching Hrithik romance Mori puts Kites in a very different league from other Bollywood films. Reliance Big Pictures is now looking at releasing a larger number of prints globally than even 3 Idiots.1700 prints of 3 Idiots had been released in India. Kites is expected to top that figure with approximately 1750 prints in India.
"We release around 2300 prints across the world. There will be 250 prints in the US and 100 in the UK," informs Lamba.
The English language version will be released in the US a week after the Hindi version. "The only difference between the Hindi and English versions would be the length. Brett Ratner who has edited the English version took out all the songs and some of scenes which were seen too Indian in spirit. Otherwise both versions are the same in spirit. Out in the West, audiences don't have the patience to sit through lengthy foreign films. In the English version that Brett Ratner has cut, everything happens super-fast and snappy," says Lamba.
The length of the Spanish version is expected to be the same as the English version of Kites.
Though it is not being said out aloud, Reliance Big Pictures hopes Kites would top the box-office statistics of 3 Idiots in the international market where the 2-hour-40-minute playing time of 3 Idiots was seen to be big hindrance for a wider acceptance by a non-diaspora audience.
The producers are looking at Kites as the Indian film that would finally crack the Western market.
"Kites is not what the Bollywood formula is perceived to be in the West. The language of love is universal. We're hopeful that this film will get a new profile of western audiences interested in Indian cinema," says Lamba with finger crossed.
Barbara Mori is expected to play Hrithik's host in Mexico when the Spanish version of Kites releases. In a cute manifestation of a cultural exchange programme, she has even offered to do a Spanish film with Hrithik.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 28 Apr 2010 | 9:42 am Aamir Khan launches National School Sanitation Initiative campaign

This year is likely to see the release of two big films with similar sounding titles. Yes...we are indeed referring to Mani Ratnam's Raavan and Shah Rukh Khan's home production Ra.One. However, the two similar sounding films are as different as chalk and cheese when it comes to their plotlines. While Mani's Abhi-Ash starrer is a modern-day adaptation of the mythological epic Ramayan, SRK's flick is a highly stylized film with a lot of gizmos and gadgets.
Coming to Ra.One, while it is known that SRK plays a super-hero kind of character in the film, what is not known is the fact that the title Ra.One is the acronym for 'Random Access-Version One'. This fact has been confirmed by the Superstar himself on Twitter. Says SRK, "Ra.One means Random Access- Version One, u will understand when u see the film. The Superhero is called G.One. Ra.One site will be up soon."
Meanwhile with his close friend and CEO of Red Chillies Entertainment- Bobby Chawla still admitted in the hospital, SRK has to even manage all the work related to production of Ra.One. SRK tweets, "Yes...wish Bobby my friend gets well sooner than soon. He is still in the hospital & the film is soo difficult in terms of production."
Looks like Ra.One is indeed taking a toll on SRK as he not only has to perform some heavy duty action sequences but also has to manage all aspects related to production.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 28 Apr 2010 | 6:11 am "Only superstars have huge B.O. pull & I'm nowhere near that standard" - Akshay

He was quite vociferous about the current trend in Bollywood where negative reviews start floating through SMSes on Thursday night itself. He kept his head high up during De Dana Dan as well and is maintaining the same mood for Housefull as well, which many tout as being all set to fetch the biggest ever opening of Akshay's career.
This appears to be a good follow up to the 2006-2008 phase for Akshay when number of his films worked primarily due to his star presence and knack of going over and above the script. No wonder, it led to soaring expectations amongst the audience due to which they became greedier for content as well rather than just look at Akshay Kumar on screen.
"I see what you are saying, and again I agree that expectations are a very tricky business. But I am only one man", says Akshay, "I will always give my best, but I know I am not always right. I can't rely on my screen effort alone to make a movie successful. There must be content, memorable dialogues, fantastic songs, love, romance, passion, tears, and laughter. But I am just one actor; I am not a professional in all areas when it comes to films. I make so many films that it becomes impossible to put so much attention to detail in everyone that I make. My actual answer is that I know I must give my audience more and yes, I am working on it."
Well, one has to agree when Akshay acknowledges working on too many movies. Last year itself saw the release of as many as five films that were evenly spread out right through those 12 months. Also, except for 8X10 Tasveer and to an extent Chandni Chowk To China, each of his other three releases did take a very good opening. Whether it was Kambakkht Ishq, Blue or De Dana Dan, no one could have really complained as far as the opening weekend was concerned. Still, not many from the trade or industry are willing to acknowledge this box office pull. Why has that been the case, one asks Akshay?
"Because not many people, whether it's the heroes even heroines really want to see others succeed", comes a blunt answer from Akshay, "I am not saying there is anything wrong with that; after all it's just human competitive instincts. I know I had very good openings last year, and so do these actors as well. But then they can't be expected to happily acknowledge that even some of my not so great movies have also fetched such bumper openings."
He shrugs away the mentality of his peers and counterparts. "It's ok if that's the way they wish to be", sighs Akshay, "Actually I reckon the day when our industry comes together and works in unison. Now that will be the day when our industry will become the strongest. No bitching, no bad mouthing, no sabotaging - just pure enthusiasm for each other's work. Of course, it all sounds almost too good to be true, isn't it?"
Talking about his films taking an opening, it is a known fact that for any actor, it's his/her right to claim superstar status as long as a film opens well. After that, it's the product that has to do the talking, right?
"Errr, well I would say 'kind of' actually", says Akshay after a quick thinking, "Yes, it is my duty to pull in the crowds but then it is also my duty to keep them coming film after film. Even if a movie isn't the best as it should be, as a superstar one must be great enough to still convince people that the film is worth seeing even if it is just to see your performance and not the film."
He is quick to admit that he is yet to attain such superstar status.
"That's right, only superstars have that power that results in the kind of box office pull that I was mentioning. I admit that I am nowhere near that standard (yet). Once that happens, then and only then do you really get to be called a Legend. Yup, not lucky, but a real Legend", smiles Akshay before signing off.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 28 Apr 2010 | 5:16 am "I freaked out on my 'suhaagraat' song with Akshay" - Jiah Khan
Young Jiah Khan has encountered quite a few road blocks ever since she turned towards the world of films. If her entry into Bollywood was a faux pas of sorts with a missed opportunity in Emraan Hashmi starrer Tumsa Nahi Dekha a few years back, last year was even more disheartening for her as she was replaced by Genelia D'Souza when Shahid Kapoor starrer Chance Pe Dance was almost complete. It didn't take much time for her to wipe off her tears and move on to Housefull. Still, the scars still remain, understandably so, even as she looks forward to far better years ahead with bigger projects and stronger roles in the pipeline. Joginder Tuteja catches up with the young actor who is ready to shock audience with her contrasting portrayal of a simple girl and a seductive siren alternatively Housefull.
After Nishabd and Ghajini, audience get to see the sensual side of Jiah in the 'suhaagraat' song (I Don't Know What To Do) in Housefull. That should keep them happy, right? You know, I was so excited the moment I heard the song. It was so hilarious and you have to closely listen to the lyrics to really know what's happening in the background. I just freaked out in it and there was so much more fun in store when we started shooting for the song.
In a way though you must have felt like poetic justice coming your way when the film failed at the box office early this year.
Well, 'poetic justice' would be too harsh a word after all. When I chose the film, it was because I wanted to do it. This is why today even if a film doesn't work; I don't look back it with any negativity. I was quite satisfied with what had come my way and even if today someone would have come to me with that script and setup and asked me to work on it, I would have done that. There are lot of good films that do not do well at the box office. At the end of the day you can never be too sure about audience.
You must be quite sure about Housefull though, isn't it? After all it is your biggest film till date with a promise of good visibility to boost.
Absolutely (smiles). There are a lot of people who are excited about the film and reports have been great so far. I have been getting feelers on Facebook and Twitter from even those whom I don't know. The promotion has been amazing and I look back at the entire experience of doing the film and feel great that I did it. But then as I said, I don't want to be over confident about anything. I would rather wait and watch. Housefull is releasing soon after IPL and no wonder, it is the most awaited film today.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 28 Apr 2010 | 4:31 am Shahid chooses IPL over dad's film, dances at IPL despite sprained neck
Shahid Kapoor is in acute pain. Some days back he sprained his neck severely. Rather than rest it out, as suggested by the doctors, Shahid performed impromptu at the IPL finals in Mumbai on Sunday.
And the fact that he danced his way through the acute pain made his condition worse.
Interestingly, he was a last-minute addition among the other performers namely A R Rahman and Bipasha Basu. Shahid wasn't really supposed to be performing at the IPL finals.
Says the actor, "My Dad and I were supposed to head to Europe for a short shooting stint of his film (Mausam). Then that volcano eruption happened in Iceland. So all flights got cancelled. In any case we were only supposed to shoot for a few days and I was supposed to come back to Mumbai. So we decided to cancel the stint in Europe."
It was then that Shahid decided he would dance at the IPL after all. "I contacted the organizers the Moranis. And they let me perform. I had never performed in a stadium before. I loved the experience. I interacted with the live cricket crowd, went into the crowds sang with them. Great fun."
Usually Shahid prepares for at least a week for any of his live performances. "But for the IPL finals I was ready in a day. It was a great platform. Dancing to a live cricket crowd and that too a crowd cheering for the Mumbai team, was an experience I wouldn't have liked to miss. So yes, I guess the cancellation of our shooting in Europe isn't something I regret."
Shahid also doesn't regret dancing when he already had a sprained neck. It aggravated his condition manifold.
Trying to play down the pain Shahid says, "I guess there's a downside to being spontaneous .I was in a bad condition."
Shahid was on painkiller injections. "But I don't mind my condition being worsened. I am just glad I performed in front of that live excited audience. People accuse me of not being spontaneous enough. So here I was actually doing something without much though or rehearsals. And I loved it!"Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 28 Apr 2010 | 3:51 am Hrithik signs Paani; Kristen not yet - Oneindia
