"I'm covered with welters, wounds & bruises on Lafangey Parindey sets" - Neil

Neil Nitin Mukesh Neil Nitin Mukesh is injured from head to toe. And it's not faked for the camera. He has raw wounds and bruises all over. Neil can barely talk. Doing traumatic parts has become a part of Neil Nitin Mukesh's acting karma. Just when he thought he had gotten over the ordeal of being strip-searched and jailed in Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail, Neil is now in the thick of the worst possible physical and emotional trauma. For his role in Lafangey Parindey which he is currently shooting from 11 in the morning past-midnight at Yashraj Studios , Neil is required to get out on the streets and fight man to man with his adversaries, a la Vinod Khanna in Gulzar's Apne and Nagarjuna in Ram Gopal Varma's Shiva. "Except for one detail," Neil corrects, as he winces in real pain. "There's nothing fake about the fists of fury that fly in Pradeep Sarkar's film. It requires the rawest of physical violence and it can't be faked. So if you see me now I'm covered with welters, wounds and bruises all gifted to me every day while shooting this, the most dangerous film of my career." Luckily Neil has moved out of his South Mumbai home to Powai for the duration of the shooting of Lafangey Parindey. "Otherwise if my mother saw what I look like she would have freaked out. I'm getting physically hurt every day. I'm covered in bruises. Because I am light-skinned the hurt marks show up bright red on me within seconds. I look... alarming!! Even to myself in the mirror!" Neil has temporarily packed off his makeup man. "I don't need Aseembhai to paint on fake blood. My stunt director Shyam Kaushalji is doing a very good job of making my bruises and lacerations look real...because they are real." This isn't Neil's first tryst with danger. "Shyam Kaushalji is someone I really respect. I touch his feet every morning although he really puts me through the most dangerous situations. In New York, he made me run across a street with speeding cars. In Aa Dekhen Zara he had thrown me off the 18th floor. But nothing had prepared me for what Shyamji has in store for me in Lafangey Parindey." Though Neil is unwilling to reveal the plot, Lafangey Parindey is about rivalry among bike gangs of Mumbai. It requires Neil engage in serious and authentic fights on the streets. Says Neil, "Fortunately I'm not a stranger to these kind of raw gutter-level combats. I may come across as soft spoken now. But I've gone through my share of campus fights during my college days. In fact I've a fierce temper problem. So far I had kept it in check. But now in Lafangey Parindey I'm disturbed to see the violent ill-tempered side of me emerging effortlessly." Then Neil adds, "What surprises me is the deep dark angry side to Dada's (director Pradeep Sarkar) personality. Who would have thought the man who made Parineeta and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag had so much anger and violence in him?"

Dilip Mehta's Cooking With Stella scores at LA

Dilip Mehta "The Gala opening of the festival with our film at Los Angeles was a smashing success." So says Dilip Mehta, the director of Cooking With Stella. Speaking from LA, Mehta says, "It was a sell-out screening and the party that followed at the Cabana Club was unbelievably riveting. The entire venue was packed to full capacity with great India cuisine and the bartenders kept every glass brimmed." The response to the film at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles was overwhelming. Says Mehta, "The huge theatre was packed. The audience was enormously supportive and so fully understood the many layers of our film. Even in the darkness I could make out the smiles and hear the laughter!" After the screening there was chaos. "We were mobbed by strangers following the screening. This is always gratifying because they give honest opinions since they don't have an axe to grind with you. The verdict was that they loved the film; they loved the dialogue and the fresh storyline because it was unlike the usual masala dished out and they loved Seema, Shreeya and Lisa's convincing performances. The compliments were many, many, many," signs off Dilip Mehta.

Kangna Ranaut signed up as brand ambassador for Alcatel mobiles

Kangna Ranaut She is someone who can rightly be called the 'Eternal Sunshine Girl', for her smile is something that simply makes everyone's day come alive. Even though she hails from a small town of Himachal, in no time, she has made an impeccable mark in the Bollywood. She is none other than Kangna Ranaut, the girl whose name is on everyone's lips ever since she said 'Cheese' to the 70mm silver screen. Kangna was the topic of every discussion for the fact that she just got a National Award for her superlative performance in the smash hit film Fashion. If our sources are to be believed, then, after having endorsed FMCG like Levis jeans etc…, Kangna has now been roped in as the brand ambassador of 'Alcatel Mobiles'. Our source also added that "The said company, after making its mark initially in the market, was out of the scene for a long time now. But, it's going to bouncing back big time. That's the reason they have roped in a 'Hot Property' like Kangna Ranaut, as they feel that Kangna's persona and her face-value are simply enough for the company to attract the attention that will set the ball rolling for them. The ads too, have been conceptualized in such a way that it's going to be boosting the company's image big time." The (re)launch of the said brand of mobiles will happen around the late this year. Well, all that we can say is that, here's looking at you, Kangs!

Zayed Khan to endorse Pan Bahar

Zayed Khan The very mention of the name Zayed Khan brings to our memory a very suave gentleman with stylish mannerisms. Zayed's histrionics can be 'witnessed' in his diverse roles in films like Main Hoon Na, Blue... to name a few. Even though this Khan is yet to make his place under the sun in the tinsel town, he has already started making waves in the ad circles. Bollywood Hungama's confirmed sources said that Zayed Khan signed up to endorse the pan masala brand called 'Pan Bahar', which has the tagline 'Aap Aaye Bahaar Aayi'. With Khan coming on board with this product, one really wonders about the Khan-fixation that the said company seems to have. Readers maybe aware of the fact that, prior to Zayed Khan coming in, it was the late Feroz Khan and his actor-son Fardeen Khan who were the 'promoters' of the brand. Sources say that the promoters and the owners of the company are very close to the Khan family. And added to that, the officials felt that Zayed is one guy who can carry the image of the brand effortlessly. Hope that this association does wonders to both, Zayed as well as 'Pan Bahar'!

"If sex is always on people's mind, it's their problem" - Jagmohan Mundhra

Jagmohan Mundhra It was way back in 1982 when he kick started his career as a Bollywood filmmaker with a gritty realistic thriller Suraag. Starring top actors of that time - Sanjeev Kumar, Shabana Azmi, Rajesh Khanna, Tina Munim and Hema Malini - the film was way ahead of it's times. Though Jagmohan Mundhra a.k.a Jag started exploring a career in West while mostly making thrillers with an element of erotica to them, he also made a critically acclaimed Kamla in the interim. However, it is only in the current decade that Jag has become far more active in the Bollywood circuit with films like Bawandar, Provoked and Shoot On Sight. Joginder Tuteja catches up with the 62 year old man who is one of the 5 odd filmmakers of this age group who are still active when it comes to calling the shots behind the camera for a Hindi feature film. You roped in Tanushree Dutta and Neetu Chandra to play all important roles in Apartment. Happy with your final choice? Absolutely. There are lot of actors who work for their entire lifetime but never get their due. However that should be secondary because first and foremost, it should be about the passion for your work. I can see that passion in both Tanu (shree) and Neetu. Since Tanu has been a Miss India, she was well suited to play an air hostess in the film. On the other hand Neetu has tremendous affinity for camera and comes with complete freedom of expressions. To me, real good actors are those who can make an ass of themselves in front of camera. Anupam (Kher) does that, Govinda does that; in fact all good actors do that and that too with conviction. Neetu comes with this quality and this is why I feel that she is a very strong actor and will go places. Real good actors are those who can make an ass of themselves in front of camera How about Tanushree? Tanu has done a wonderful job of getting the character right. The fact is that whenever you have two girls playing distinguished roles where one of them is rather showy (like the one enacted by Neetu), most of the females want to pick that role. Not many wanted to do Tanu's role kyunki sabko lagta tha ki saari taaliyaan toh neetu ke role ko milengi. I found that kind of insecurity in most actors but Tanu didn't have any. I liked that attitude. She said that she understood the relevance of her role and would do it with complete conviction. That's quite creditable. You seem impressed. That's true. In films there would always be one or two roles that would be critic friendly but how do you tell a story if you don't have another role? For that matter, even Rohit was quite apprehensive. His first reaction was that yeh to ladkiyon ki film hai, isme main kya karoonga. But after coming on board and seeing the final cut, he was impressed with what he saw. Dekho, problem yeh hai ki filmmakers in India face quite some difficulties when it comes to casting. Log sochte hain ki aggar aap mujhe behen ka role offer karoge toh baaki sab producers bhi aisa hi karenge (laughs). Well, in Apartment, one definitely believes that Tanushree and Neetu are hardly being presented as the 'behenji' material. [Laughs] Both Tanu and Neetu are quite attractive and sexy and hence it was imperative that they wear sexy clothes so that it is appropriate to their characters. Moreover, since Tanu has a live-in relationship with Rohit, toh phir dono ko bhajan gaate hue toh dikha nahi sakte. Obviously they would be making love when they are together. Of course when they are fighting then they do so tooth and nail but immediately after that when they make up then, they do so with a lot of passion. Both Tanu and Neetu are quite attractive and sexy and hence it was imperative that they wear sexy clothes The moment words like 'making love' and 'passion' comes from Jag's mouth, the first thought that comes is 'erotica'. Isn't it ironic that even after making various non-erotica films, people still refer to you as a man who made films like Monsoon in the West? Of course it is ironical. They forget that I made Kamla years back. On the other hand in the recent past I have had films belonging to entirely different genres like Provoked, Bawandar and Shoot On Sight. If they still remember Monsoon then it shows that sex is always there on people mind. If they can't get over a wet saree, it's their problem and not mine. As a filmmaker, you have to connect to your target audience. I am glad that I am able to make different variety of movies. If I am making a comedy, I should make people laugh. In a thriller, I should have them sit at the edge of their seats. And if I am making an erotica, I have to get them aroused. It's simple. I see my job as an audio-visual teller and if I don't use the medium effectively, I should consider myself failed as a director.

"Housefull will prove that I can do comedy as well" - Jiah Khan

Jiah Khan There is a lot more to Jiah Khan than just a babe in the bikini from Housefull. She is fullness personified. A great dusky figure, a heavy British accent, a super sex appeal and of course, oodles of talent. Of course, she is undeniably beautiful - like a cross between a Vargas girl and a Disney cartoon with big, brown eyes and a wide, easy smile - and I can't help but wonder whether male television executives have simply been too hypnotised by her dazzling physical attributes in her previous films to bother listening to anything she has to say. She is far more animated and witty in conversation than she appears on screen. She may look like the Halle Berry coming out of the water in a Bond film but she doesn't sound like one. She sounds a lot sweeter, and that makes you fall for her. Is it her accent? Who knows? But one thing's good about this girl. She does know that being a beautiful celebrity isn't a bed of roses. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent chats with Jiah Khan on her first comic film Housefull, what's she been up to these days in London and much more in this quick chirpy chat. Sajid Khan calls you sweet and hot. So what's the general perception here? Hot or sweet? (Laughs) You know, I can't really compliment myself on this one. That's really nice of Sajid Khan to have said this about me. But my perception is the 'sweet' one rather than the 'hot' one. Housefull will prove that I can do comedy as well Ever since Nishabd released, the heads have turned critically. Then followed Ghajini and the commercial heads turned too. You've got both - critical and commercial acclaim. What's Housefull going to bring? Oh my god! Housefull will prove that I can do comedy as well. I try and do very different roles from all my previous films. This again is very different. I've never attempted comedy before and I'm sure that audiences are going to like this one too. Jiah Khan Your director is also raving about the fact that he has made you all do some maddening stuff. How was it going mad with Sajid? (Laughs) I think you should be asking this to Sajid. I don't know (laughs). I don't have that much experience working with directors who turn you mad (laughs). My previous two directors, Ram Gopal Varma and Muragadoss had failed to make me mad (laughs). Sajid really guides you into the scene if you're an actor. He is so light hearted on the sets that it helps us with the comic roles. As far as Sajid doing something mad and different, well, he made me wear a bikini. British comedies are so famous. Then there are stand up comedians. As a person, what sort of comedy films or tele series or stand up comedians has inspired you in your growing up years? To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of comedy. I am a sucker for psychological thrillers. If anything I'd associate myself to is sarcastic humour, which I think is very British and comes from my upbringing. Nothing specific. I haven't been into comedy ever. Housefull is my first ever experience and I don't even watch comedy films and tele series. I don't watch too much television. If there is any comedy I was a witness to, it was a Sajid Khan film Heyy Babyy. I loved the film. After having worked with the best in business, Mr Amitabh Bachchan, how did Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal and Riteish Deshmukh come across? For me, the actors you've mentioned are huge stars in India. They have done so much in their life. Yes, there is a sense of nervousness in me when I work with established and famous names. All three were light hearted. They cracked jokes and played pranks. With Mr. Bachchan, you get to see a much superior personality with immense respect. He is a little more serious too. The Housefull gang was fun and frolic. We became family and were travelling together out of India most of the time. Jiah Khan Tell us something about Lara Dutta I loved Lara Dutta in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. I think she was hilarious in the film. She looks gorgeous. We didn't really sit together and exchanged acting tips. It didn't happen. But yes, we did a lot of shopping, diet and exercise. And with Sajid Khan around, you don't have time to sit down (laughs). And Deepika Padukone? Deepika is a much focused actress. She is very young and it's good to see the youngsters, including me, who are focused about their profession. She is achieving so much at an early age that is mystical. Let's talk about marriages. Marriages? (Laughs) Hey, don't worry. I know marriages will make you dizzy. But what sort of guy would be interested in you? A guy interested in me? That's a tough question (laughs). My god! That's the hardest question. The right kind for Jiah would be easy to answer. I am very similar to my character in Housefull. I want a man to come on a white horse and rescue me away. I am shy and reserved and a diehard romantic. I'd expect a lot from my man (laughs). I am very similar to my character in Housefull. I want a man to come on a white horse and rescue me away So what if Arjun, Akshay and Riteish came on a white horse. Who would you pick? (Laughs) This is insane. Well, it would not be me picking the guys. It has to be the one who grabs me first. How can I pick up a guy? Don't guys actually pick up on girls? By the way, Arjun Rampal is really good looking, isn't he? (Laughs). In three years career, is Jiah Khan going to stay here for good? Or are you planning to go the Freida Pinto way? I don't really think about things like these. When we make plans, it sometimes doesn't work. Nothing is planned and nothing is in our hands. But at the same time I was in New York when I got a film like Nishabd. I want to wake up in the morning and start work as soon as possible. That's what I want to do and keep on doing. More films. In terms of my films, I can't really say what films I'm going to sign and where they'll land me to. Jiah Khan You speak a heavy British accent and look unconventional too. So are you going to be a lucky mascot for Akshay Kumar just like your compatriot Katrina Kaif? (Laughs) I can never say anything like that. A lot of people want to see more of me, I agree. Let's see how Housefull does. Currently, I'm working on a film in London. It's a British-American film and hopefully it'll be my next film after Housefull. In terms of getting lucky, again, it's not planned. But yes, I'd love to work with Akshay Kumar again. So what has Jiah got on to the table in Housefull? Mostly people vision me as a sensuous, out there, wild and a carefree girl. But Sajid thought otherwise. He went the other way. I was so closer to the role I was portraying that even Sajid was unaware of. So I got a lot of the gestures and dialogues on to the table because that's how I am. I liked that. People who are close to me will relate to my character but those who aren't will think it's a different role which Jiah Khan is portraying. Anybody in particular you'd like to work with in Bollywood as far as directors are concerned? Yes. I'd like to work with Mani Ratnam. I love his movies and I've been seeing all his films from childhood. I've grown up watching Mani Ratnam's films.

Exclusive: Mani Ratnam and Rahman are all set to recreate magic with Raavan

Jimi Hendrix once said, "Music is a safe kind of high". Well then, you're just two days away before you get high. So be prepared for an overdose of musical madness. Thanks to Mani Ratnam and A.R. Rahman, who've weaved their magic in Raavan. As we are just one day away from the music launch of the year for the 2010's most awaited film, there has been a latest development in the music front. Sources say that Asha Bhonsle has recently recorded a song for Mani's Raavan for the Tamil version. We also hear that for one of his tracks called 'Kata Kata' which is sung by Ila Arun, Sapna Awasthi and Kunal Ganjawala in the Hindi version of the film, the maverick director shot this big budget song with 500 dancers in Jhansi along with choreographer Ganesh Acharya, which took four days to wrap up. And if you liked Abhishek Bachchan in and as Raavan in the 30 second trailer and the first look, think again! In the tamil version's Raavan, Vikram will also take you by surprise (see the pic). In almost the same identical look and make up which Abhishek dons in the Hindi version, this is Vikram at his best. This is Vikram's biggest roles in his longstanding career and his stellar acting skills are the much talked about in tinseltown, as he apparently shines alongside Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the hero and the villain in this bi-lingual film. Prithviraj will play the antagonist in the Tamil version of Raavan. But if there is one thing which makes Raavan unique, (besides acting) is its music. A.R. Rahman is back with the vengeance and is all set to give his best work ever as per the sources. He has done it in the past for Mani Ratnam in Dil Se and Bombay but in Raavan, he is going to be one notch higher. We guess he also heard Jimi Hendrix well. The Hindi and Tamil track list features the best of the best in Indian music - A.R. Rahman himself, Asha Bhonsle, Sukhwinder Singh, Kailash Kher, Reena Bhardwaj, Rashid Ali, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Naresh Iyer, Shreya Ghoshal, Karthik, Malgudi Subha, Ila Arun, Kunal Ganjawala, Sapna Awasthi and Sonu Niigaam. It's definitely going to be a sound evening or is it? Below is the Tamil track list of Raavan: 'Veera Veera' by A.R. Rahman and Kailash Kher 'Kata Kata' by Ila Arun, Malgudi Subha, Sonu Niigaam 'Kaadhale' by Shreya Ghoshal 'Madhuvanam' by Asha Bhonsle and Chitra Sivaram 'Moozhgi Vidaya' by Karthik 'Aaruyir Nenje' by Mahalaxmi Iyer and Rashid Ali Below is the Hindi track list of Raavan: 'Beera Beera' by Vijay Prakash and Mustafa. 'Behene De' by Karthik 'Thok de Killi' by Sukhwinder Singh and Am'nico, 'Ranjha Ranjha' by Rekha Bharadwaj and Javed Ali 'Khilli Re' by Reena Bharadwaj. 'Kata Kata' by Ila arun, Sapna Awasthi and Kunal Ganjawala

"Two females sharing Apartment are not lesbians" - Tanushree Dutta

Tanushree Datta Lesbian pairing of Tanushree Dutta and Neetu Chandra. Darr meeting Girlfriend. Sex element. Cat fight amongst the leading ladies. Tiff between Tanushree and Rohit Roy. These are some of the many rumours that have been floating around for last 8-10 months ever since the shooting of Apartment kick started. Though Neetu plays the role of a schizophrenic in Apartment and Tanushree is a victim, the promotional focus (whether designed or by chance) has stayed on the aforementioned elements rather than the thriller quotient of Apartment. Naturally, Tanushree is upset. In a free wheeling conversation with Joginder Tuteja, Tanushree Dutta talks about Apartment being anything but the aforementioned angles, why she chose the role of a victim over the tormentor and her general unhappiness over the way rumours have floated around the film. In the middle of last year, when the shooting of Apartment had started, there were speculations around the film being a story of two lesbians. In fact it was safely assumed that at least one of the two leading ladies would be having sexual orientation towards females. Is that the case here? Please don't expect anything of that nature at all. These things have been plugged by sources who want the film to look tantalising. Just because two females are sharing an apartment here, it doesn't mean that they are lesbians. There are so many guys who share an apartment too in real life. That doesn't make them gays. Titbits around the lesbian angle have just been plugged into media. All of this is entirely fictional. This is just overactive PR machinery in motion here. Didn't you have a conversation with the producers around this? See, I am not here to do the blame game. Also I am not saying that the producers are spreading these rumours. Perhaps even they don't know who is doing that. May be there are forces which do not want Apartment to work. They want to malign our reputation. Tanushree Datta So let's talk about something which is there in the film. In Apartment, are we looking at a hard hitting dramatic thriller? Yes, absolutely. It is an absolutely hard hitting psychological thriller. There is a lot of grit element in it and it is very fast paced, edge of the seat thriller. As for my character in the film, it is not very complicated. In fact for that matter, both Neetu and I are fairly simple characters. She is playing a negative villainous role while I am playing a victim. Simple. Also, when I get victimised then there is this trauma and pain also that come in. Talking about trauma and pain, one is reminded of your last release Rokkk where your character got possessed. Tanushree, since you were pining a lot of hope on Rokkk, weren't you overtly disappointed with it's non-performance at the box office? On the contrary I was quite happy with the way Rokkk performed at the box office. Collections prove that it did a lot better than some other films that had come during that time. My producers were very happy and they laughed all the way to the bank. The film was made on a shoestring budget and it recovered more than what was expected. The DVD is also out now while there would be a satellite premier soon. For the kind of budget it was made in, we had many avenues from which we got quick recovery. I was quite happy with the way Rokkk performed at the box office I guess it is all about the perception factor in that case. That's true. The producers didn't do aggressive promotion after the film's release due to which not many know that the film actually made a lot of money in the B and C centres. Also, I was looking forward to some good appreciation coming my way and in that aspect, the film really worked for me. I don't have any complains around the promotion strategy though because I truly believe that when a film is good, it doesn't have to be promoted aggressively; especially in a negative way. It can just be done in such a clean manner; something that makes me very happy with Rokkk. There were no controversies whatsoever. No wonder, you sound dissatisfied with the promotion of Apartment. (Sighs) Apartment is a very good film. Now if it was bad then I wouldn't have cared about the promotion since I believed in the film right from the time it was narrated to me. I still believe in the makers. Also, I believe in the film till date because I have seen it. With the kind of budget assigned to it, it looks like it has been made on a much larger scale. Whether it is cinematography, clothes, locations, casting - everything is so appropriate. This is where Jag's expertise as a filmmaker with international experience comes in. The entire team was so carefully put together and resultantly, Apartment looks so sleek. This is why it breaks my heart to see all kind of stories floated around in the market. I don't see why this is happening.
