There is something about Vidya Balan and the cameras that every time she comes on screen; she turns into the seductress, this temptress who will hypnotise you into committing a thousand sins. The cover of Hi! Living magazine is one you can stare at forever as Vidya shines through in her classic Indian attire, looking every bit of beautiful woman that she is.
The cover shoot took place in the pristine locales of Kerala which also happens to be Vidya's hometown. The backdrop shows the beautiful backwaters and lush greens that have been captured by photographer Joy Datta in an exceptional manner. The theme of the magazine celebrates the Indian beauty and the inimitable quality of it and who better than Vidya to stand as a case in point for that. Staying true to the premise, Vidya was dressed in classic Indian designs and luxurious ethnic wears by Sabyasachi and traditional jewellery was by PC Jwellers.

There is a lot more to Jiah Khan than just a babe in the bikini from Housefull. She is fullness personified. A great dusky figure, a heavy British accent, a super sex appeal and of course, oodles of talent. Of course, she is undeniably beautiful - like a cross between a Vargas girl and a Disney cartoon with big, brown eyes and a wide, easy smile - and I can't help but wonder whether male television executives have simply been too hypnotised by her dazzling physical attributes in her previous films to bother listening to anything she has to say. She is far more animated and witty in conversation than she appears on screen. She may look like the Halle Berry coming out of the water in a Bond film but she doesn't sound like one. She sounds a lot sweeter, and that makes you fall for her. Is it her accent? Who knows? But one thing's good about this girl. She does know that being a beautiful celebrity isn't a bed of roses. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent chats with Jiah Khan on her first comic film Housefull, what's she been up to these days in London and much more in this quick chirpy chat.
Sajid Khan calls you sweet and hot. So what's the general perception here? Hot or sweet? (Laughs) You know, I can't really compliment myself on this one. That's really nice of Sajid Khan to have said this about me. But my perception is the 'sweet' one rather than the 'hot' one.
Your director is also raving about the fact that he has made you all do some maddening stuff. How was it going mad with Sajid? (Laughs) I think you should be asking this to Sajid. I don't know (laughs). I don't have that much experience working with directors who turn you mad (laughs). My previous two directors, Ram Gopal Varma and Muragadoss had failed to make me mad (laughs). Sajid really guides you into the scene if you're an actor. He is so light hearted on the sets that it helps us with the comic roles. As far as Sajid doing something mad and different, well, he made me wear a bikini.
British comedies are so famous. Then there are stand up comedians. As a person, what sort of comedy films or tele series or stand up comedians has inspired you in your growing up years?
To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of comedy. I am a sucker for psychological thrillers. If anything I'd associate myself to is sarcastic humour, which I think is very British and comes from my upbringing. Nothing specific. I haven't been into comedy ever. Housefull is my first ever experience and I don't even watch comedy films and tele series. I don't watch too much television. If there is any comedy I was a witness to, it was a Sajid Khan film Heyy Babyy. I loved the film.
After having worked with the best in business, Mr Amitabh Bachchan, how did Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal and Riteish Deshmukh come across? For me, the actors you've mentioned are huge stars in India. They have done so much in their life. Yes, there is a sense of nervousness in me when I work with established and famous names. All three were light hearted. They cracked jokes and played pranks. With Mr. Bachchan, you get to see a much superior personality with immense respect. He is a little more serious too. The Housefull gang was fun and frolic. We became family and were travelling together out of India most of the time.
Tell us something about Lara Dutta
I loved Lara Dutta in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. I think she was hilarious in the film. She looks gorgeous. We didn't really sit together and exchanged acting tips. It didn't happen. But yes, we did a lot of shopping, diet and exercise. And with Sajid Khan around, you don't have time to sit down (laughs).
And Deepika Padukone? Deepika is a much focused actress. She is very young and it's good to see the youngsters, including me, who are focused about their profession. She is achieving so much at an early age that is mystical.
Let's talk about marriages. Marriages? (Laughs)
Hey, don't worry. I know marriages will make you dizzy. But what sort of guy would be interested in you? A guy interested in me? That's a tough question (laughs). My god! That's the hardest question. The right kind for Jiah would be easy to answer. I am very similar to my character in Housefull. I want a man to come on a white horse and rescue me away. I am shy and reserved and a diehard romantic. I'd expect a lot from my man (laughs).
You speak a heavy British accent and look unconventional too. So are you going to be a lucky mascot for Akshay Kumar just like your compatriot Katrina Kaif? (Laughs) I can never say anything like that. A lot of people want to see more of me, I agree. Let's see how Housefull does. Currently, I'm working on a film in London. It's a British-American film and hopefully it'll be my next film after Housefull. In terms of getting lucky, again, it's not planned. But yes, I'd love to work with Akshay Kumar again.
So what has Jiah got on to the table in Housefull? Mostly people vision me as a sensuous, out there, wild and a carefree girl. But Sajid thought otherwise. He went the other way. I was so closer to the role I was portraying that even Sajid was unaware of. So I got a lot of the gestures and dialogues on to the table because that's how I am. I liked that. People who are close to me will relate to my character but those who aren't will think it's a different role which Jiah Khan is portraying.
Anybody in particular you'd like to work with in Bollywood as far as directors are concerned? Yes. I'd like to work with Mani Ratnam. I love his movies and I've been seeing all his films from childhood. I've grown up watching Mani Ratnam's films.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 22 Apr 2010 | 3:46 am Milenge Milenge in trouble againUnwilling to work with Shahid, Kareena stalls promotional video.Source: | 22 Apr 2010 | 3:43 am Will Raavana premiere at IIFA?The Abhishek-Aishwarya starrer might be screened at 11th edition of the awards ceremony in Sri Lanka.Source: | 22 Apr 2010 | 3:31 am Ganesh Leela going off air on May 10Now this piece of news will not please the producer and more importantly, the Lord himself. Jimi Hendrix once said, "Music is a safe kind of high". Well then, you're just two days away before you get high. So be prepared for an overdose of musical madness. Thanks to Mani Ratnam and A.R. Rahman, who've weaved their magic in Raavan. As we are just one day away from the music launch of the year for the 2010's most awaited film, there has been a latest development in the music front. Sources say that Asha Bhonsle has recently recorded a song for Mani's Raavan for the Tamil version. We also hear that for one of his tracks called 'Kata Kata' which is sung by Ila Arun, Sapna Awasthi and Kunal Ganjawala in the Hindi version of the film, the maverick director shot this big budget song with 500 dancers in Jhansi along with choreographer Ganesh Acharya, which took four days to wrap up.
And if you liked Abhishek Bachchan in and as Raavan in the 30 second trailer and the first look, think again! In the tamil version's Raavan, Vikram will also take you by surprise (see the pic). In almost the same identical look and make up which Abhishek dons in the Hindi version, this is Vikram at his best. This is Vikram's biggest roles in his longstanding career and his stellar acting skills are the much talked about in tinseltown, as he apparently shines alongside Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the hero and the villain in this bi-lingual film. Prithviraj will play the antagonist in the Tamil version of Raavan.
But if there is one thing which makes Raavan unique, (besides acting) is its music. A.R. Rahman is back with the vengeance and is all set to give his best work ever as per the sources. He has done it in the past for Mani Ratnam in Dil Se and Bombay but in Raavan, he is going to be one notch higher. We guess he also heard Jimi Hendrix well.
The Hindi and Tamil track list features the best of the best in Indian music - A.R. Rahman himself, Asha Bhonsle, Sukhwinder Singh, Kailash Kher, Reena Bhardwaj, Rashid Ali, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Naresh Iyer, Shreya Ghoshal, Karthik, Malgudi Subha, Ila Arun, Kunal Ganjawala, Sapna Awasthi and Sonu Niigaam.
It's definitely going to be a sound evening or is it?
Below is the Tamil track list of Raavan:

Lesbian pairing of Tanushree Dutta and Neetu Chandra. Darr meeting Girlfriend. Sex element. Cat fight amongst the leading ladies. Tiff between Tanushree and Rohit Roy. These are some of the many rumours that have been floating around for last 8-10 months ever since the shooting of Apartment kick started. Though Neetu plays the role of a schizophrenic in Apartment and Tanushree is a victim, the promotional focus (whether designed or by chance) has stayed on the aforementioned elements rather than the thriller quotient of Apartment. Naturally, Tanushree is upset. In a free wheeling conversation with Joginder Tuteja, Tanushree Dutta talks about Apartment being anything but the aforementioned angles, why she chose the role of a victim over the tormentor and her general unhappiness over the way rumours have floated around the film.
In the middle of last year, when the shooting of Apartment had started, there were speculations around the film being a story of two lesbians. In fact it was safely assumed that at least one of the two leading ladies would be having sexual orientation towards females. Is that the case here?
Please don't expect anything of that nature at all. These things have been plugged by sources who want the film to look tantalising. Just because two females are sharing an apartment here, it doesn't mean that they are lesbians. There are so many guys who share an apartment too in real life. That doesn't make them gays. Titbits around the lesbian angle have just been plugged into media. All of this is entirely fictional. This is just overactive PR machinery in motion here.
Didn't you have a conversation with the producers around this? See, I am not here to do the blame game. Also I am not saying that the producers are spreading these rumours. Perhaps even they don't know who is doing that. May be there are forces which do not want Apartment to work. They want to malign our reputation.
So let's talk about something which is there in the film. In Apartment, are we looking at a hard hitting dramatic thriller? Yes, absolutely. It is an absolutely hard hitting psychological thriller. There is a lot of grit element in it and it is very fast paced, edge of the seat thriller. As for my character in the film, it is not very complicated. In fact for that matter, both Neetu and I are fairly simple characters. She is playing a negative villainous role while I am playing a victim. Simple. Also, when I get victimised then there is this trauma and pain also that come in.
Talking about trauma and pain, one is reminded of your last release Rokkk where your character got possessed. Tanushree, since you were pining a lot of hope on Rokkk, weren't you overtly disappointed with it's non-performance at the box office? On the contrary I was quite happy with the way Rokkk performed at the box office. Collections prove that it did a lot better than some other films that had come during that time. My producers were very happy and they laughed all the way to the bank. The film was made on a shoestring budget and it recovered more than what was expected. The DVD is also out now while there would be a satellite premier soon. For the kind of budget it was made in, we had many avenues from which we got quick recovery.

The budget crunch has eaten into one of the biggest production houses in the entertainment industry. According to well-placed sources close to Yash Raj Films, the banner which had till recently a reputation for an unbroken string of hits has now after setbacks like Dil Bole Hadippa, Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year and Pyaar Impossible instructed its roster of directors to shoot within reasonable budgets.
And financially impractical projects are a strict no-no. This, Kabir Khan discovered when after New York he decided to make a lavish big-budget epic. Initially, Aditya Chopra the Yash Raj scion was enthusiastic about the novel idea and gave Kabir a cart-blanche...
But as the script evolved it became clear to the producers that Kabir Khan's epic would be one of the most expensive films in the history of Yash Raj.
Aditya Chopra sat Kabir down for a meeting and calmly told him the epic project was not working.
Admits Kabir, "Yes I've abandoned my earlier script. This was a subject I had with me from even before I made my first feature film Kabul Express. You can say it's my dream project. And my dream is now on hold."
Kabir confirms that Aditya Chopra asked him to work on another more financially feasible subject. "After working on the earlier script for several months, I'm writing a new script. It's more of a fun film than New York. It is definitely not about global terrorism this time. I've said whatever I have had to on that subject. But a socio-political undercurrent can't be too far away from what I do."
As for Kabir's dream project, he hasn't given up on it. "That's the film I became a feature-director for. I won't give it up."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 22 Apr 2010 | 2:06 am Rahman Kata Kata track in RAAVAN shot with 500 dancers!! - stardustco.in

When this week American NRI actor Sendhil Ramamurthy flew down to Mumbai he had a shock waiting for him. His first Indian film It's A Wonderful Afterlife is being dubbed into Hindi.
Sendhil's thick but gracious American accent is a dead giveaway. He is not at all familiar with Hindi. And yet he will be seen spouting rapid fire Hindi dialogues in It's A Wonderful Afterlife.
He doesn't hesitate in expressing his displeasure. "I just heard about the dubbed version. I kinda hate it. I didn't know there was going to be a Hindi version. I'm surprised and not too happy to hear that I will be speaking in Hindi. I've heard myself speak in French, Japanese, Polish... and so many other languages that my serial Heroes was dubbed in. It sounds weird. It takes away from the performance. Now I'm about to hear myself in Hindi. I wish they just had Hindi sub-titles."
Sendhil's first Bollywood film Shor, produced by Ekta Kapoor, has him speaking in English. "My character is supposed to speak a smattering of bad Hindi in Shor. I have exactly fifteen words in Hindi in Shor. Trust me, I've counted them. I tried to get them to cut it down. I had thirty Hindi words to begin with. I campaigned to get them reduced by half. I must be the only actor in the world who has actually asked for my lines to be cut."
Sendhil says he doesn't see any incongruity in being a Bollywood actor who can't speak Hindi. "When I was here the last time my producer Ekta Kapoor had thrown a party for me to meet the Bollywood actors and actresses. When I apologetically confessed that I didn't speak in Hindi, they said, 'Neither do we.' I've to be realistic about what I can expect from my so-called Bollywood career. I can't play fluent Hindi-speaking hero. I wasn't born and raised in India. So a full-fledged Bollywood career is just not going to happen. But there're so many kinds of films being made in Bollywood."
Sendhil's second language is Kannada since his father is from Karnataka. "My mother is Tamil. My dad is Kannada. I can barely manage Kannada. I don't know Hindi at all. For those 15 words in Shor, I got a Hindi coach to tutor me and then I memorized them on my I-Pod. On my treadmill or while driving I learnt those fifteen words."
Speaking about the extensive media exposure, Sendhil says, "I do have a responsibility to promote a film when I am in it. And I've to rush back to start work on a new American television serial Covert Affairs from April 20. I wouldn't be in India for the premiere of Gurinder's film. I'm really disappointed. I wanted to be here for the premiere. I tried to accommodate it."
In Covert Affairs, Sendhil plays the male lead. "I get to play a character very different from what I play in Heroes. It's a childhood fantasy come-true. I'll be running around shooting guns. I don't only get to play out an action fantasy I get paid for it. I'm excited because I play an American CIA agent. It isn't an Indian character. I'm trying not to do culture-specific roles. It's very difficult.
Speaking on It's A Wonderful Afterlife, Sendhil says, "It's a fun film. I hope people will enjoy it. Nobody can accuse Gurinder of making the same film twice."
Sendhil is all praise for his co-star Shabana Azmi. "Shabana and I have kept in touch after shooting. My parents are her huge fans. When I was shooting with her in the UK they actually flew over from the United States to meet her. Shabana was so warm and generous with my parents."
Sendhil is married to actress Olga Sosnovska. "I met her in London at drama school. She's British-Polish. We have two children. I make sure the family travels with me when I'm shooting outside the US. They were with me the whole time in the UK when we did Gurinder's film. It's difficult to co-ordinate their schedules with mine. Luckily I've the means to fly them wherever I am."
Sendhil is pleased with his children's cosmopolitan upbringing. "They speak Polish with my wife. They go to a French school. And my parents speak to them in Kannada. So either my children are going to be amazingly cosmopolitan, or they'll just be confused. I'll let you know."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 21 Apr 2010 | 7:33 am RamSinghKumaresh - The Animation Masterclass kickstarts from April 24

In the absence of commercial flights to European countries producer Sajid Nadiadwala has no option but to hire private jets to take the prints of his on-release summer comedy Housefull to England and other European countries.
The volcanic ashes from Iceland has floated all the way to Bollywood...and nearly crashed into one the most mammoth summer release.
Sajid Khan's multi-starrer Housefull which releases next Friday (April 30) is in delivery doldrums. As per release rules the delivery overseas has to be made a week in advance of the release day.
Since most of the air traffic to Europe was still shut on Tuesday (with no sign of a partial let alone full recovery of flights for some days to come) Sajid Nadiadwala is in a state of panic.
"This is most unforeseen," he said on Tuesday, stressed and sleepless running helter-skelter looking for non-airborne means of transporting prints of Housefull to Europe.
Said the harrowed producer, "In all my years as a producer I've never encountered such a crisis. There're about a 100 prints to be taken into the Europe. Air traffic has come to a standstill. I'm hiring private jets to carry the prints to the nearest city with an open air base. From there the prints will be taken to various European cities by train or road. I'm so desperate I'm ready to employ any means of transportation...planes, trains, automobiles, whatever is available."
The added expenditure incurred by the paralysis of air traffic in Europe is the least of Nadiadwala's worries. "It doesn't really matter how much money it would cost. The important thing is to get the prints to the European centres on time. Or else the entire overseas release would be affected."
The harassed producer won't rest easy until a solution to the transportation deadlock is found. "It's been one crisis after another for me. First the underworld threats then this volcanic eruption."
So stressed is Sajid that he hasn't been able to enjoy the completion of his next project Anjaana Anjaani.
Says Sajid, "Ranbir Kapoor had a wrap-up party for Anjaana Anjaani. But I wasn't able to attend because of these two back-to-back crises at my workplace. Now I'll celebrate only when Housefull is released properly everywhere."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 21 Apr 2010 | 7:09 am 3 Idiots: Its effects and side effectsStudents need to look behind their moment's whim and into the reality.
