Having made epic films like Swades, Jodhaa Akbar and Lagaan; after having worked with the likes of Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan, Ashutosh Gowariker has set off on another tryst, which from his previous track record isn't just another run of the mill, but yet again a film of gigantic scale.
Ashutosh isn't keen on taking an established actor to play this role as he believes their star value will affect come in the way of the character. He is looking out for a fresh face to play the part. One who can do justice to the innocence of the character of Siddhartha. Gowariker is going the web way, as he calls out actors around the globe to log onto the site named Buddha-movie.com and download the sample scene and upload their audition videos and pictures.
The story focuses on the life of Prince Siddhartha and his journey to enlightenment where he becomes Gautam Buddha. In the vein of the film Gladiator, Buddha is an historical epic story that appeals to young as well as mature global audience.
Producer Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Modi says, "This will be the first global film coming from India for the global audience about the man who brought India to the world map and the philosophy that will make the world live as one family."
Further he adds, "This film is long overdue and the need of the hour in the world we all are living in. The search for Siddhartha's character in the film will be one who the youth of the world can connect with."
While Ashutosh Gowariker says, "I have always been fascinated with the story of Prince Siddhartha who renounced his life of luxury and family, in search of an answer to what causes human suffering and subsequently attained enlightenment and came to be known as Buddha. To portray the innocence of Prince Siddhartha and the compassion of the 'enlightened one', I am looking for a fresh face, and hence, this nationwide, worldwide search."
Here is an opportunity for all those who've been garnering a dream to work with Ashutosh Gowariker, as he gets set to make another epic film that is bound to appeal to audiences young and old across the globe.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Apr 2010 | 6:59 am Emily Blunt to tie the knot in May

Best buddies Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar have co-hosted many Bollywood award functions in the past and now for the first time ever the duo will be seen hosting the grand IPL Awards scheduled to take place on April 23rd in Mumbai this year. The announcement was made by IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi at a function in Mumbai yesterday.
With the whole nation being gripped by the IPL frenzy, the organizers have decided to come up with the first ever IPL Awards which will recognize the best performances and honour the best players of the IPL. Some of the categories are Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Best Fielder, Best IPL Debutante, Most Consistent Performer, Most Dramatic Performance and Breakthrough Performance. The winners in these categories will be selected by an esteemed jury comprising of Lalit Modi, Sunil Gavaskar, Brian Lara, Harsha Bhogle, Javagal Srinath and umpire Simon Taufel. Apart from the jury awards there is also a separate section for the Viewers' Choice Awards where cricket fans will get to vote for their favorite performers from the IPL.
In true IPL style, the evening will be a fusion of cricketing and entertainment excellence, with some of India's biggest names, including AR Rahman, Shilpa Shetty, Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan, set to deliver their trademark energy and style. Besides, the event will also feature performances by some leading cricketers, who will show they are equally talented off the field too.
With the who's who of the cricketing and entertainment world in attendance, this high profile event surely seems like the perfect finish to what has been a fantastic 45 days of non-stop entertainment.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Apr 2010 | 4:39 am Deepika opens up on her 'relationship status' with Siddharth Mallya
One catches Deepika Padukone in a fiery mood. And rightly so. Right after a very public break up with Ranbir Kapoor, she has found herself in the midst of one rumour after another. Whether it was her alleged proximity to Farhan Akhtar during the making of Karthik Calling Karthik (something which was rubbished in no uncertain terms by both the actors) or her so-called refusal to work with Ranbir (which was again passed off as idle gossip by people close to the actor), Deepika had to face an unnecessary storm when she would have rather spoken about her work.
In a happy professional scenario that she is currently enjoying with a line up of projects round the corner, she is also (unnecessarily) forced to spend her time and energy in response to insinuations that she could well be dating Siddharth Mallya. For the uninitiated, Siddharth is the son of liquor baron Vijay Mallya who is also the owner of Royal Challengers Bangalore, an IPL team for which Deepika Padukone is the Brand Ambassador.
"If I am sitting with the owner of my IPL team, there is no reason why I should be linked up to him", Deepika flares up the moment this topic of discussion opens up, "If I am the face of the team, isn't it obvious that I would be sitting up with? I would be there with him supporting my team, right? It's but obvious that I would also be photographed. But does that mean I am going around with a guy? Come on, let's grow up. All of this just doesn't make any sense at all."
Perhaps this is also because of her current 'single status'.
"You know, all of this has become way too predictable", Deepika forces a smile here, "Every fortnight there is one link up or another. Today, even if I go out with my cousin brother, I am sure to see a headline next morning with announcement of yet another new relationship of mine. Really, it's all such a big joke now."
How are her parents reacting to such 'jokes'? Don't they get furious when stories about her daughter fill tabloids for all the wrong reasons when instead she should have been in news for the plethora of work that she currently had in hand.
"I think even my parents have really given up now", she sighs, "There is absolutely nothing for my parents as well to react at all. There are no clarifications required. All they want now is to read about the work that I am doing and this is what they expect from people as well. Of course initially it used to bother them as well me. I used to clarify about these news pieces and everyone would understand that eventually there was no truth in it all. However, now since I have been in the industry for 3 years now, all of us understand that most of the written word is untrue after all."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Apr 2010 | 4:17 am "Audiences will find Phoonk 2's crow more appealing than Shahid" - RGV
In Ahsaas Channa, Ram Gopal has found his own Linda Blair. Remember the child protegee playing the Satan- possessed traumatized girl in The Exorcist? Ahsaas the female child actor, who was unintentionally caught in a controversy when she was found to be playing a male child in Karan Johar's Kabhie Alvida Naa Kehna without anyone being aware of her real gender, will do the possessed act in Phoonk 2 and the spin-offs that the enterprising Varma has planned for the Phoonk franchise.
Ahsaas seems to have sorted out the gender confusion regarding her screen persona. She plays the possessed girl in Phoonk 2 with such deep understanding of trauma that Varma calls her his leading lady.
Says Varma, "As far as I'm concerned Ahsaas is the heroine and the crow is the hero of Phoonk 2. Yes. She had played a male child in my earlier horror film Vastu Shastra. I didn't know she was a girl then and it's none of my business if she's a girl or a boy. All I'm concerned with is she's the best actress I've worked with."
Ramu plans a series of Phoonk movies as Ahsaas grows older.
Ram Gopal Varma never fights shy of courting controversy. So now with a new release around the corner it is no surprise to hear him putting the 'hero' of his film on a par with Shahid Kapoor who stars in Paathshaala, the other release this Friday.
Says Ramu, "The hero of my film is undoubtedly the crow. It clicked so big in the first Phoonk that we expected major tantrums from it in the second film. But the crow was surprisingly well-behaved. We later got to know that the superstar-crow's sixth sense had told him he was up against a formidable opponent. So I've to thank Shahid for our hero behaving himself."
Ramu is hopeful his hero would be liked better. "I've a feeling audiences will find the crow more appealing than Shahid."
The next Phoonk movie will depend entirely on the script.
Informs Ramu, "When I made Bhoot with so many established stars I realized somewhere that the known names took away from the terror factor. The trick in horror films is to cast relatively unknown face so that the audience becomes one with the characters' fears."
About being called gimmicky for promising prize money to anyone who can watch Phoonk 2 alone in the theatre Ramu smirks. "Those who think I'm gimmicky better take a close look at the horror genre. It's by its very nature gimmicky. When I said I'd give money to a man watching the film only if the ECG machine shows his heartbeat to be normal I was told that was impossible. Which is a fine by me. I don't want anyone to win!"Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 15 Apr 2010 | 4:09 am "Paathshaala is Mohabbatein meets 3 Idiots? No ways" - Shahid Kapoor
He is one of the few top actors in the actors in the industry today who is enjoying as many as three releases to his name in the first half of 2010 - Chance Pe Dance, Paathshaala and Badmaash Company. Also, if Milenge Milenge eventually releases soon then this number may well become four. Still, the actor chooses to call himself as 'unemployed' for the duration that he is not facing the camera. Through with the shooting of all aforementioned films, he has started preparing himself for his next film that
goes on floors - Mausam (tentatively titled). Till then, he is happy to be getting his look in place (noticed the bearded look?) and promoting his last lot of films which are ready to arrive one after another. Joginder Tuteja catches up with the young man who has come a long way in the last 7-8 years and is confidently paving his way to find a place in the elite list of top superstars as he marches towards completion of a decade in the industry.
You have so much work in hand, right from seeing the release of your films, their promotion and preparation for your next biggie. Still, you call yourself unemployed. Isn't that paradoxical? Arrey yaar ek actor ki life badi ajeeb hoti hai. When you have too much work then you want to relax. At that time you feel ki chalo bahaut ho gaya, ab bujhe picture nahi karni kuch waqt tak. But then when you begin to take a break, you feel very uncomfortable. You start feeling a lot unemployed even though you know that there is something going to happen soon. Since I am not used to 'not working' for a good period of time, it becomes a very uncomfortable situation for me.
But then you asked for it True man, but it all becomes very ironic because the fact is that I am not used to it. It is almost like going down from the fifth gear to the first gear. The whole pace of your life changes because when you are doing filming or promotion, at least you are surrounded by people. Otherwise you become all alone.
Coming to Paathshaala, there have been so many speculations around your presence in the film. Since the film is about children, there were rumours about you making only an 'extended guest appearance'. Let me put it this way that Paathshala may be small in comparison to some other films that I am doing and I may not be a quintessential hero here. However, it isn't as if I have a guest appearance in the film, as has been speculated by some. I have a substantial role that lasts for around 50 minutes in the film and that too from start to finish. I guess
that's a good enough presence, isn't it?
You sound emotionally charged about the whole experience.
Exactly. I told Ahmed and Shaira to use me as much as they want for the film's publicity. If using my face gets even 10 more people to see the film then I would feel that I have been a part of something really relevant. It is a noble effort and I feel fortunate to be a part of it. I have seen the film and I am happy to have done it.
Well, since you are so excited about the film, can you also confirm if the film is akin to Mohabbatein meeting 3 Idiots? After all the promos give that impression.
(Comes up with a hearty laugh) Now that's the most original reference that I have heard. Maine Taare Zameen Par ka reference point toh suna tha but yeh first hai! Come on, there is no similarity here. We had shot Paathshaala well before the release of 3 Idiots. On the other hand, Mohabbatein was a love story about three students. Haan yaar theek hai, yahan bhi ek school hai but then that's about it. When people watch Paathshaala, they would realise that there are no similarities with anything that have seen earlier. May be as a journo, you want to come up with an angle but sorry, I don't see any broad generalisation here.
In the film, you have Ayesha Takia as your co-star. Do we see any revival of Dil Maange More romance here? No, not at all. In the film, we are playing just colleagues. There is no romance angle in the film at all. Scope hi nahi hai!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 15 Apr 2010 | 4:07 am The hero of my film is undoubtedly the crow: RGV - Oneindia

Maverick film-maker Ram Gopal Varma returns to the horror format with PHOONK 2, the sequel to the successful PHOONK, which opens this Friday. In fact, the forthcoming Friday also marks the release of Ahmed Khan and his wife Shaira's film production debut PAATHSHAALA, which features Nana Patekar, Shahid Kapoor and Ayesha Takia Azmi in key roles.
While there's no similarity between PAATHSHAALA and PHOONK 2, since the two films belong to different genres, RGV is confident that PHOONK 2 would not get overpowered by the stars in the other film [PAATHSHAALA]. Like always, RGV makes a witty remark, "The crow is my hero and the doll, the heroine." If you jog your memory, RGV had used the pic of a crow in the promotional campaign of PHOONK. In PHOONK 2, there's a crow as also a doll... a sinister doll, in fact.
Says Sudeep, the lead man of PHOONK and PHOONK 2, "It's not right to compare the two films, but I genuinely feel that PHOONK 2 is far more scary than the first part." Meanwhile, there's talk in the industry circles that RGV plans to continue with the PHOONK series. Reportedly, PHOONK 3 will be made in 3D. He is a man whose initial's letter is same as 'Success' and 'Sincerity'. He is foreign shore's latest export to the 'desi' silver screen. He goes by the name of Sendhil Ramamurthy, the very name who's synonymous with the famous American series 'Heroes'. If the adulations and the compliments for the same are anything to go by, then, boy! You can get a taste of his acting skills in his debut film It's A Wonderful Afterlife, which has been directed by ace director Gurinder Chadha. Satish Sundaresan of Bollywood Hungama caught up with this man for an exclusive interview and came back rather impressed! Ladies and gentlemen, here's presenting Sendhil Ramamurthy!
To start with, Sendhil, how did you enter showbiz?
Frankly speaking, I entered showbiz just by fluke. I graduated from the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London but studied medicine in Tufts University, Boston. I always wanted to do theatre, for the simple reason that I never saw anyone like me on TV, either in the UK or the US. Everything else fell at the right place thereon.
Is it true that your agent wanted you to change your name from Sendhil Ramamurthy to something else?
I never really understood that one. I was always wondering as to whom I would be fooling by changing my name to any random name like John Smith and likes. But, I stood firm on my name and told him that I didn't want to be known as anyone else. That's why I stuck to my one and original name Sendhil Ramamurthy. After all, it's the talent that counts. What say!
Very true Sendhil. Now, tell us as to how did the path-breaking and career-making 'Heroes' happen?
All that I can say is sheer luck. I was in London and was doing a play. That's when my USA agent showed me a script for Heroes, and wanted me to audition for the role. I read the script and was shell shocked as it was for a 55 year old man! I was like 'Hey! You guys caught hold of the wrong guy!' I ended up doing 6 auditions for this name. I was 30 year old then. As I was auditioning, the show's creator Tim, was kind of changing the character in his head each time I came in. In the end, he decided to make me the character that he had originally thought of, in the flashback in one of the episodes.
How different are your famous (reel-life) characters Suresh and DS Murthy from the real-life Sendhil?
They are very different from what I am in real life. I am far more laidback than both of the two characters that you mentioned. I am much more chilled out than the both of them.
How was the whole shooting experience of It's A Wonderful Afterlife?
It was quite fun. We shot in London for 8 weeks. I love London. I have a home in London as its one of the best cities in the world to come home to (quite literally!). So, it was great for me. There were lots of other locations wherein we shot, which also added to the fun.
How has the music of the film come about? Any personal favorites?
The music of the film has been composed by Bally Sagoo. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to meet him, but I am hoping to meet him soon. He has done the track 'Staying Alive', which is also my favourite track. It's really a track to watch out for! The audiences will surely groove on this one!
What did you decipher out of Gurinder's previous films like Bride & Prejudice and Bend It Like Beckham?
Even though I haven't seen Bride & Prejudice, I only saw Bend It Like Beckham. From what I could decipher was that Gurinder is someone who knows what she wants in life. She does very commercial level films that cater to a global audience in a big way.
You also have been signed by Ekta Kapoor for her next film Shor. Can you tell us more about the film? In terms of your co-stars, story plot etc...
My character is that of an NRI, who comes to Mumbai to set up an NGO. But he ends up getting muscled by the local gangsters and how he deals with it. My storyline is in English with a terrific new actress, Preeti Desai, paired opposite me.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who created history of sorts with the record-breaking film 3 Idiots last year, has now begun work on his ambitious Hollywood project Broken Horses. For the last few months, Chopra has been scouting shooting locations in and around New Mexico. The maverick filmmaker has now gone ahead and got Hollywood veteran Fred Roos on board the film as Executive Producer.
For the uninitiated, Roos has worked with some of Hollywood's most gifted filmmakers and actors over the last four decades. He has even co-produced cult films like The Godfather Part II, The Godfather Part III and Apocalypse Now.
Vinod happened to meet Fred Roos during one of his trips to Los Angeles. Says a source closely associated with the film, "Getting Roos on board is a huge deal. He is revered in Hollywood and has also worked with several big stars. Roos was impressed with the script of Broken Horses and agreed to collaborate with Chopra."
Vidhu Vinod Chopra is obviously excited on getting to work with Roos. "I met Fred years ago as a student on the sets of Godfather. He was an inspiration then and he is an inspiration now. I feel privileged to be associated with him," said the acclaimed filmmaker.
Even Fred Roos is looking forward to this association. Speaking from Los Angeles, Roos said, "I was very pleased to reconnect with Vinod after all these years and to be invited to join his team for the production of Broken Horses. I think that it is a terrific project and I am looking forward to having a wonderful time in the making of it. Vinod's script and his passion as a filmmaker are proving to be very attractive to actors here and I am confident that he will end up with a great cast."
After his extensive US trips, Chopra has locked various locations for filming and begins principal photography in September.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 14 Apr 2010 | 8:13 am SRK feels 'awful' after KKR defeatShah Rukh Khan says he is feeling "awful" after the poor performance of his Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) that has been knocked out of the tournament.Source: Entertainment News | 14 Apr 2010 | 8:08 am Chadha's twins make acting debut with 'It's A Wonderful...'The youngest members of the cast in Britain-based Indian filmmaker Gurinder Chadha's new film "It's A Wonderful Afterlife" are her three-year-old twins - son Ronak and daughter Kumiko.Source: Entertainment News | 14 Apr 2010 | 6:59 am Check Out: Arbaaz giving Twitter tips to Salman
The bade Bhaiya from Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, Arbaaz khan, actually played bade Bhaiya to Sallu Bhai when he coaxed him into joining twitter. Even Salman responded with his first twitter message saying "Arbaaz ne kaha ke tweet kar toh banta hai boss". The big Brother was extremely happy when he saw that the followers just kept going up from the second he logged on. Arbaaz tweeted Salman saying "you have over 8600 already."
Being the one to make Salman approachable to his fans who always felt distant from him, Arbaaz thanked the audience for being there for his brother. On the sets of Sallu's upcoming film Dabaang, Arbaaz taught Sallu bhai the finer nuances of the hottest social networking site, Twitter. Hope to see a lot more tweeting from you Salman.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 14 Apr 2010 | 5:14 am SRK apologizes to fans, sponsors of KKR on Twitter after team's humiliating defeat
After 2 disastrous seasons at the IPL, it's all but over for SRK's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at this year's IPL too. Last night, after a humiliating defeat to Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (in what was a must win match), KKR is down and wellâ¦almost out of the tournament.
Shah Rukh Khan, who has always backed his boys, is but naturally upset at the dismal poor performance of his team yet again. "Outbatted, outbowled, outclassed...out of semis. Never lost so much, so often and so consistently. Apologies to all who supported us", tweeted the superstar minutes after his team crashed out last night.
The actor also thanked all his fans and sponsors and apologized to them for letting them down yet again. "I completely take the blame for not putting up a good enough show...so much love for KKR & I couldn't reciprocate. Final thanx to Kolkata audience. U make us proud...couldn't do the same...& can't make any promises for future either, have lost the right. I am not sad. Just feel awful for Kolkata & all of this, most wonderful city & my sponsorsâ¦Nokia & XXX drink. No promises anymore. Bye all."
While it's almost the end of the road for SRK's team at this year's IPL, it will be interesting to watch what plan of action the superstar comes up with to put up a better show next year around.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 14 Apr 2010 | 5:10 am Saif and Bipasha roped in as brand ambassadors for Wynn Mobiles
They say that, in Bollywood, history and success repeats itself at frequent intervals. Well, we would like to add a bit more to that. We would like to say that, in Bollywood, its not just history and success, but also a successful jodi that repeats itself at frequent intervals!
After 'Race-ing' ahead of everyone, the successful pair of Saif Ali Khan and Bipasha Basu will now be seen in a different avatar. This time round, they will be seen promoting the to-be launched mobile handsets called 'Wynn Mobiles', as they have been roped in as the brand ambassadors. Sources close to Bollywood Hungama say that the said brand will be having a grand launch by mid 2010 as they feel that it's the right time to hit the market and reach the consumers. As far as the reason why they zeroed down on Saif and Bipasha, our source says, "The company was scouting for every single hit actor. But they chose to zero down on the Saif-Bips pair as they felt that it's a safe bet to bank upon, as this pair has already delivered celluloid hits like Omkara and also Race. When asked about the commercials involved, our source added that it was indeed a practical way of saying 'Sky is the limit'.
Repeated attempts to reach Saif and Bipasha and also their spokespersons proved futile.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 14 Apr 2010 | 5:01 am Abhishek Bachchan Interrupted - Part 2
On meeting Abhishek Bachchan, you notice that he is so calm and composed that almost all his answers would be to the point and short. But I get a shock of my life that he had almost got the side-A of the recorder full. He has depth, knows what he is talking and makes super sense. He pours his heart out when he wants, gives you so much respect that you sometimes feel you don't deserve and yet slash you apart if you talk the 'wrong' thing. But that's how Abhishek Bachchan is - frank. He doesn't beat around the bush. We like him that way and that is exactly the way he comes across in Part 2 of this exclusive - Abhishek Bachchan Interrupted with Devansh Patel. Now it makes sense why I reached home at 2.30 in the night. Not because of his long answers but because his answers bring out the Abhishek Bachchan we have rarely heard about.
Your new name is tweety-pie. Thanks to Twitter, we also know that you love eating frankie. How has twitter helped you to grow as a person and as an actor?
(Laughs) Not as a person. As an observer of films and the audience, it's helped me a lot. I think my sense of core values and morals is very deeply ingrained, and has been a major criteria in my growing up years and my formation. I'd like to believe that those values are strong enough not to be shaken or changed that easily. As an observer, it teaches you a lot about your work, which is your audience. They are not as fickle and easily convinced as we'd like or hope they are. You come to know about your audiences minutest details they go into. I joined twitter because I feel that it is a fantastic forum to interact with your audience and to get to know them better. I also believe that the requirement of an actor has changed today. That whole - 'he is an elusive star and that enigma'; I don't think that exists any more. If you're a mystery and an enigma it means that you're not doing any work and people have forgotten about you (laughs). The generation has changed. They aren't going to respect you how you want them to. Today, your audience wants to sit next to you and say, "What's up buddy?" They won't do that with my father. There is this respect and that barrier when it comes to Amitabh Bachchan. But with me, they'd like to be friendly and have a one on one relationship and twitter allows that.
How easy it is to say 'Yes' to friends and professionals like Rohan Sippy and Goldie Behl for you to be a part of their film?
Very easy. My problem is that I say 'yes' too easily (laughs). I could like one scene in the film and agree with them. I wish I had the art to be removed from the film and view it. I wish I could. I don't have that capability. It sounds stupid but Roahn Sippy is my childhood friend. We went to school together. If he says that he has got a movie and wants me to do it, I'd say 'yes' to it. That's just the way I am. I won't say that I'm spontaneous but I am emotional about these people. If I do see that there is something wrong which I feel may not work for the film, I then have a liberty to tell them because they're my friends.
How much of music has influenced your life Abhishek?
It really is huge. I remember my mother telling me that to be a good actor you should have a sense of rhythm. It doesn't mean you have to be a musician or a dancer. But there has to be an inherent sense of rhythm and that rhythm helps you in your performance because a performance has a tone, a pitch and a rhythm. For me, music is integral. I listen to music as often as I can. When I am going to work, when I'm at work and returning from work, I need to listen to music.
Anything you'd like to tell us about Dum Maro Dum, your next film directed by Rohan Sippy?
Yes, the film is currently titled Dum Maro Dum. We've started shooting and will wrap up by the end of June. It is based in Goa and I play a cop in the film. He is very passionate at what he does and it's a very gritty thriller that I haven't done in a long, long time. It was a genre I was looking to get back to.
How like minded are you and your wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and how diverse are you two?
Both equally. It's quite weird but I think most husbands and wives will say that. There are certain topics where we think exactly the same and there are certain where we think completely the opposite. That all adds to the attraction. There is no monotony between me and my wife. Because she is also a friend, and sometimes when we don't agree, I discuss things out with her. There are many a nights where we just sit and talk it out. She has a different point of view and I like listening to her point of view because she makes a lot of sense.
Lux is known for its beauty. So here we have it then, the three most beautiful men in the world - Paul Newman, SRK and Abhishek Bachchan.
I'd love people to say that. But unfortunately they probably won't. They say - 'Chand pe daag hota hai'. I think I'm the daag for Lux (laughs). The beauty is only a beauty if there is a beast to compare her to. That's why I think Lux cast me opposite my beautiful wife in the commercial. When they approached me for the commercial, I said, "I'm not getting into any bath tub and lathering myself." My first reaction was 'No'. But when they explained me why I would fit in the advert with my wife, I liked it and agreed because it was fun. Today, the commercial is hugely successful. It all paid off. I am very particular about what I endorse. What I liked was that it took me out of my comfort zone for once. It gave me the opportunity to appeal to a different kind of an audience and make a statement. With Aishwarya, I really didn't want to do commercials which sold home appliances, etc. But the Lux Soap advert is something different. Hindustan Lever as a company is very supportive and keeps us involved in their campaigns. That's the way I like to work. I am one of the only three men in the world to become a Lux model and that's pretty cool.
How personally do you take journalists and journalism?
I take it very personally because I think that they too take it personally. At the end of the day a journalist takes his job very seriously. I believe that journalism and the media is a conscience of the nation. They are the opinion makers of the nation and are the people who portray the truth. They take all this seriously. I do not disrespect a media person because I respect what they do. If I've agreed to sit in front of you, I am open to whatever questions you pose to me. But to answer them or not is my prerogative. Having said that, because of the position I have put the media in, which is of great respect and a very serious position in our society, I think they have to be equally responsible. What Mumbai Mirror wrote about my wife was offensive, slanderous and damaging. But most importantly, it wasn't the truth. You write gossip, that's ok with me. But how can you not tell the truth? That's the first rule of journalism. How can you not call and verify your story with the person you're writing it on. Forget the content of it, which was very personal, private and really not their business. But the journalist didn't have the decency to verify it with my wife. I took offence to that. So when we called the newspapers, they said that they stand by what they've written. So there is nothing much I could've done about it. It's a very serious profession. I tweeted about it too. I do not want anybody to talk false about the women of my house hold. Yes, they're public figures but as a man of the house, I'm going to draw a line somewhere. They are not willing to even bring that source in front of me. Well then, they'll face consequences.
Abhishek Bachchan Interrupted - Part 1Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 14 Apr 2010 | 4:25 am Salman Khan will tweet mainly in Hindi
On his brother Arbaaz Khan's say-so Salman Khan reluctantly joined the rapidly-growing brigade of stars on a major social networking website.
But Salman says he will tweet mainly in Hindi. Is that a whim, ask the cynics. Or is this Salman's way of connecting with the heartland? According to a colleague, Salman wants to use the Twitter space to have his say fearlessly.
Apparently, Salman's tweets won't be about his day-to-day activities but larger issues that touch the common man.
Says Arbaaz, "Salman has started tweeting in Hindi. But it doesn't mean he will only use that language. We'll just have to see which way he goes."
The decision to tweet was suddenly taken by Salman on Tuesday morning.
Relates Arbaaz, "As you know everything Salman does is spontaneous and emotional. I had been urging him to join the social networks on the internet. I am on a number of them and I kept telling Salman that if he gets on the social network, he can connect directly with his fans, tell them about his films and about whatever else he wants to."
But Salman desisted. "He isn't net savvy at all. He isn't even comfortable on the cellphone but on Saturday he saw me on Twitter and decided on the spur of the moment to join. He said, "Chalo karte hain." The first message went out on Tuesday morning. Within half an hour he had 2,000 followers."
Incidentally, with Salman falling prey to the social-networking obsession, there are only two Bollywood A-listers who aren't tweeting. Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. The two insists they would never go on Twitter.
Never say never.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 14 Apr 2010 | 3:11 am
