Vidhu collaborates with Hollywood veteran Fred Roos for Broken Horses

Vidhu Vinod Chopra Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who created history of sorts with the record-breaking film 3 Idiots last year, has now begun work on his ambitious Hollywood project Broken Horses. For the last few months, Chopra has been scouting shooting locations in and around New Mexico. The maverick filmmaker has now gone ahead and got Hollywood veteran Fred Roos on board the film as Executive Producer. For the uninitiated, Roos has worked with some of Hollywood's most gifted filmmakers and actors over the last four decades. He has even co-produced cult films like The Godfather Part II, The Godfather Part III and Apocalypse Now. Vinod happened to meet Fred Roos during one of his trips to Los Angeles. Says a source closely associated with the film, "Getting Roos on board is a huge deal. He is revered in Hollywood and has also worked with several big stars. Roos was impressed with the script of Broken Horses and agreed to collaborate with Chopra." Vidhu Vinod Chopra is obviously excited on getting to work with Roos. "I met Fred years ago as a student on the sets of Godfather. He was an inspiration then and he is an inspiration now. I feel privileged to be associated with him," said the acclaimed filmmaker. Even Fred Roos is looking forward to this association. Speaking from Los Angeles, Roos said, "I was very pleased to reconnect with Vinod after all these years and to be invited to join his team for the production of Broken Horses. I think that it is a terrific project and I am looking forward to having a wonderful time in the making of it. Vinod's script and his passion as a filmmaker are proving to be very attractive to actors here and I am confident that he will end up with a great cast." After his extensive US trips, Chopra has locked various locations for filming and begins principal photography in September.

SRK apologizes to fans, sponsors of KKR on Twitter after team's humiliating defeat

Shahrukh Khan After 2 disastrous seasons at the IPL, it's all but over for SRK's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at this year's IPL too. Last night, after a humiliating defeat to Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (in what was a must win match), KKR is down and well…almost out of the tournament. Shah Rukh Khan, who has always backed his boys, is but naturally upset at the dismal poor performance of his team yet again. "Outbatted, outbowled, outclassed...out of semis. Never lost so much, so often and so consistently. Apologies to all who supported us", tweeted the superstar minutes after his team crashed out last night. The actor also thanked all his fans and sponsors and apologized to them for letting them down yet again. "I completely take the blame for not putting up a good enough show...so much love for KKR & I couldn't reciprocate. Final thanx to Kolkata audience. U make us proud...couldn't do the same...& can't make any promises for future either, have lost the right. I am not sad. Just feel awful for Kolkata & all of this, most wonderful city & my sponsors…Nokia & XXX drink. No promises anymore. Bye all." While it's almost the end of the road for SRK's team at this year's IPL, it will be interesting to watch what plan of action the superstar comes up with to put up a better show next year around.

Saif and Bipasha roped in as brand ambassadors for Wynn Mobiles

Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu They say that, in Bollywood, history and success repeats itself at frequent intervals. Well, we would like to add a bit more to that. We would like to say that, in Bollywood, its not just history and success, but also a successful jodi that repeats itself at frequent intervals! After 'Race-ing' ahead of everyone, the successful pair of Saif Ali Khan and Bipasha Basu will now be seen in a different avatar. This time round, they will be seen promoting the to-be launched mobile handsets called 'Wynn Mobiles', as they have been roped in as the brand ambassadors. Sources close to Bollywood Hungama say that the said brand will be having a grand launch by mid 2010 as they feel that it's the right time to hit the market and reach the consumers. As far as the reason why they zeroed down on Saif and Bipasha, our source says, "The company was scouting for every single hit actor. But they chose to zero down on the Saif-Bips pair as they felt that it's a safe bet to bank upon, as this pair has already delivered celluloid hits like Omkara and also Race. When asked about the commercials involved, our source added that it was indeed a practical way of saying 'Sky is the limit'. Repeated attempts to reach Saif and Bipasha and also their spokespersons proved futile.

Abhishek Bachchan Interrupted - Part 2

Abhishek Bachchan On meeting Abhishek Bachchan, you notice that he is so calm and composed that almost all his answers would be to the point and short. But I get a shock of my life that he had almost got the side-A of the recorder full. He has depth, knows what he is talking and makes super sense. He pours his heart out when he wants, gives you so much respect that you sometimes feel you don't deserve and yet slash you apart if you talk the 'wrong' thing. But that's how Abhishek Bachchan is - frank. He doesn't beat around the bush. We like him that way and that is exactly the way he comes across in Part 2 of this exclusive - Abhishek Bachchan Interrupted with Devansh Patel. Now it makes sense why I reached home at 2.30 in the night. Not because of his long answers but because his answers bring out the Abhishek Bachchan we have rarely heard about. Your new name is tweety-pie. Thanks to Twitter, we also know that you love eating frankie. How has twitter helped you to grow as a person and as an actor? (Laughs) Not as a person. As an observer of films and the audience, it's helped me a lot. I think my sense of core values and morals is very deeply ingrained, and has been a major criteria in my growing up years and my formation. I'd like to believe that those values are strong enough not to be shaken or changed that easily. As an observer, it teaches you a lot about your work, which is your audience. They are not as fickle and easily convinced as we'd like or hope they are. You come to know about your audiences minutest details they go into. I joined twitter because I feel that it is a fantastic forum to interact with your audience and to get to know them better. I also believe that the requirement of an actor has changed today. That whole - 'he is an elusive star and that enigma'; I don't think that exists any more. If you're a mystery and an enigma it means that you're not doing any work and people have forgotten about you (laughs). The generation has changed. They aren't going to respect you how you want them to. Today, your audience wants to sit next to you and say, "What's up buddy?" They won't do that with my father. There is this respect and that barrier when it comes to Amitabh Bachchan. But with me, they'd like to be friendly and have a one on one relationship and twitter allows that. Today, your audience wants to sit next to you and say, "What's up buddy?" With films like Dev D, Kaminey, Ishqiya, Paa, LSD being made, is it right in saying that we are giving birth to a different audience or a different cinema? I've never believed in it. I never understood what parallel cinema was. I just know there is good cinema and bad cinema. The format of the film might change but it still has to appeal to the audiences. I think it's very foolish to think that the audience does not understand our films. If they're not understanding your film than you're making the wrong film. You have to make films for your audience. As a cinema lover, I want to go and be entertained. I want my money's worth. Yes, these are nice films that have been different in the way they're told and there was something about all these films that have appealed to the audiences. Tarun has got it all right this time. Dostana 2 is going to be three times funnier than Dostana Anything that we don't know about Dostana 2 that you know? Not much. I think Dostana has suddenly grown into this monster. I remember when Tarun Mansukhani said, "I want to do part 2 of Dostana". I answered, "Don't do it." I felt that Dostana wasn't a franchise film that a sequel could've been made. Some films should be just made once and let it be. When he told me the concept of Dostana 2, I said, "This is fantastic." I was also scared and apprehensive on how Tarun would top Dostana. I mean, all the punches were pulled in part one. So what was remaining in part two was what I was curious about. How do we take it further? Tarun has got it all right this time. Dostana 2 is going to be three times funnier than Dostana. He cracked a story line which is hilarious. We start filming in July in London. Abhishek Bachchan How easy it is to say 'Yes' to friends and professionals like Rohan Sippy and Goldie Behl for you to be a part of their film? Very easy. My problem is that I say 'yes' too easily (laughs). I could like one scene in the film and agree with them. I wish I had the art to be removed from the film and view it. I wish I could. I don't have that capability. It sounds stupid but Roahn Sippy is my childhood friend. We went to school together. If he says that he has got a movie and wants me to do it, I'd say 'yes' to it. That's just the way I am. I won't say that I'm spontaneous but I am emotional about these people. If I do see that there is something wrong which I feel may not work for the film, I then have a liberty to tell them because they're my friends. How much of music has influenced your life Abhishek? It really is huge. I remember my mother telling me that to be a good actor you should have a sense of rhythm. It doesn't mean you have to be a musician or a dancer. But there has to be an inherent sense of rhythm and that rhythm helps you in your performance because a performance has a tone, a pitch and a rhythm. For me, music is integral. I listen to music as often as I can. When I am going to work, when I'm at work and returning from work, I need to listen to music. Anything you'd like to tell us about Dum Maro Dum, your next film directed by Rohan Sippy? Yes, the film is currently titled Dum Maro Dum. We've started shooting and will wrap up by the end of June. It is based in Goa and I play a cop in the film. He is very passionate at what he does and it's a very gritty thriller that I haven't done in a long, long time. It was a genre I was looking to get back to. How like minded are you and your wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and how diverse are you two? Both equally. It's quite weird but I think most husbands and wives will say that. There are certain topics where we think exactly the same and there are certain where we think completely the opposite. That all adds to the attraction. There is no monotony between me and my wife. Because she is also a friend, and sometimes when we don't agree, I discuss things out with her. There are many a nights where we just sit and talk it out. She has a different point of view and I like listening to her point of view because she makes a lot of sense. Abhishek Bachchan Lux is known for its beauty. So here we have it then, the three most beautiful men in the world - Paul Newman, SRK and Abhishek Bachchan. I'd love people to say that. But unfortunately they probably won't. They say - 'Chand pe daag hota hai'. I think I'm the daag for Lux (laughs). The beauty is only a beauty if there is a beast to compare her to. That's why I think Lux cast me opposite my beautiful wife in the commercial. When they approached me for the commercial, I said, "I'm not getting into any bath tub and lathering myself." My first reaction was 'No'. But when they explained me why I would fit in the advert with my wife, I liked it and agreed because it was fun. Today, the commercial is hugely successful. It all paid off. I am very particular about what I endorse. What I liked was that it took me out of my comfort zone for once. It gave me the opportunity to appeal to a different kind of an audience and make a statement. With Aishwarya, I really didn't want to do commercials which sold home appliances, etc. But the Lux Soap advert is something different. Hindustan Lever as a company is very supportive and keeps us involved in their campaigns. That's the way I like to work. I am one of the only three men in the world to become a Lux model and that's pretty cool. How personally do you take journalists and journalism? I take it very personally because I think that they too take it personally. At the end of the day a journalist takes his job very seriously. I believe that journalism and the media is a conscience of the nation. They are the opinion makers of the nation and are the people who portray the truth. They take all this seriously. I do not disrespect a media person because I respect what they do. If I've agreed to sit in front of you, I am open to whatever questions you pose to me. But to answer them or not is my prerogative. Having said that, because of the position I have put the media in, which is of great respect and a very serious position in our society, I think they have to be equally responsible. What Mumbai Mirror wrote about my wife was offensive, slanderous and damaging. But most importantly, it wasn't the truth. You write gossip, that's ok with me. But how can you not tell the truth? That's the first rule of journalism. How can you not call and verify your story with the person you're writing it on. Forget the content of it, which was very personal, private and really not their business. But the journalist didn't have the decency to verify it with my wife. I took offence to that. So when we called the newspapers, they said that they stand by what they've written. So there is nothing much I could've done about it. It's a very serious profession. I tweeted about it too. I do not want anybody to talk false about the women of my house hold. Yes, they're public figures but as a man of the house, I'm going to draw a line somewhere. They are not willing to even bring that source in front of me. Well then, they'll face consequences. Abhishek Bachchan Interrupted - Part 1

"Stop punishing my son to settle scores" - Shatrughan Sinha

Shatrughan Sinha The scathing reviews of his son's debut film Sadiyaan has left Shatrughan Sinha wondering if his son Luv Sinha is being put through the grinder because of whose son he is. Says the protective father, "It's quite clear that Luv is paying a price for being my son. He isn't being given a chance to make his presence felt. People who have scores to settle with me are coming out to target my boy. It isn't fair." Continues the Shotgun, "Tell me which newcomer has not been awkward in his first film. Why be so harsh with Luv? Does he not deserve a chance just because he is my son?" Shatrughan Sinha comes out in defence against Shekhar Suman's son Adhyayan's accusation that Luv had insulted Suman Sr. Says Sinha, "My son has been brought up well. He knows how to show respect to his elders. Please ask my colleagues Rishi Kapoor, Hema Malini and Rekha who played his parents in Sadiyaan. Has Luv ever been disrespectful to them? So what is this about my boy calling Shekhar Suman names on a social networking website?" Apparently, Luv called Shekhar Suman a "clown" on Facebook. Adhyayan retaliated by calling Luv an "idiot". Defends Shatrughan, "Luv says his account was hacked. He never called Shekhar a name. I believe my son. He never lies. The matter ends there. Shekhar has been smarting ever since he lost his deposit when he contested the Lok Sabha elections against me in Bihar." Not that Shatrughan Sinha is saying that his son deserves to be showered in praise for his debut performance. "He is raw. He's new. He needs experience. And he needs encouragement. Not below-the-belt comments about his looks, his parents, etc. Some of our biggest superstars were awkward on camera when they came in. I was relentlessly and ruthlessly criticized for my looks when I did my initial films like Gambler and Saajan. I was told to go back to Bihar. I survived. All I am saying is to give the boy a chance to prove himself. Do not use him to settle personal scores with me."

Salman Khan will tweet mainly in Hindi

Salman Khan On his brother Arbaaz Khan's say-so Salman Khan reluctantly joined the rapidly-growing brigade of stars on a major social networking website. But Salman says he will tweet mainly in Hindi. Is that a whim, ask the cynics. Or is this Salman's way of connecting with the heartland? According to a colleague, Salman wants to use the Twitter space to have his say fearlessly. Apparently, Salman's tweets won't be about his day-to-day activities but larger issues that touch the common man. Says Arbaaz, "Salman has started tweeting in Hindi. But it doesn't mean he will only use that language. We'll just have to see which way he goes." The decision to tweet was suddenly taken by Salman on Tuesday morning. Relates Arbaaz, "As you know everything Salman does is spontaneous and emotional. I had been urging him to join the social networks on the internet. I am on a number of them and I kept telling Salman that if he gets on the social network, he can connect directly with his fans, tell them about his films and about whatever else he wants to." But Salman desisted. "He isn't net savvy at all. He isn't even comfortable on the cellphone but on Saturday he saw me on Twitter and decided on the spur of the moment to join. He said, "Chalo karte hain." The first message went out on Tuesday morning. Within half an hour he had 2,000 followers." Incidentally, with Salman falling prey to the social-networking obsession, there are only two Bollywood A-listers who aren't tweeting. Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. The two insists they would never go on Twitter. Never say never.

Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan Twitter is the new tag word for the celebrities today. They not only interact with each other on the site but also connect with the audience, it's what we call 'bridging the gap'. So much so that Celebrities judge their popularity with the number of people who follow them, and they also keep tabs on the number of tweets they sent out. Some are voices against social issues while others are on such random things as who did I have coffee with and what movie I watched today. Everyone wants to be a 'twitteratti'. Shah Rukh Khan celebrates his 100 days on the site today as he makes a mention to his fans when he says @iamsrk : 100 days on twitter. thanks everyone. saw a 3 month old baby yesterday...seems like i am one on the twitter now. its been a good life so far. Check out: Ajay Devgn's new look for Golmaal 3

Ajay Devgn Golmaal 3 is the entire buzz. And the reason being, it's never-been-seen-before quality that the actors will bring to it. Everyone's going out of their comfort zone and doing something they have never attempted before. Where Kareena Kapoor will play a tomboy, Tushaar is playing the roadside 'Tapoori'; Ajay Devgan on the other hand has now revealed what he is bringing to this party. We had seen the edgy styled Devgan in London Dreams, but what makes this look stand apart, is roughness around the edges. Not only is he now sporting a cropped look, and a diamond stud in his ear but he has also worked on his body and is planning to go all out to flaunt it, John are you listening? What's really caught the attention is a certain tattoo that's doing the rounds, seems like celebrity tattoos are the statement of the season, remember Lara's? Well, Ajay is sporting a tattoo on his neck in this one, a first in Bollywood. No one's ever tried that and credit goes to Aalim's Studio, where Vishwas designed the tattoo but the concept and idea was all Ajay's. Says Aalim "The tattoo is of a Celtic or tribal trishul. It's daring to have a tattoo on the neck, even if it's temporary." When it comes to the entire makeover, Aalim says "We have given Ajay the buzz cut, a stubble look overall, a more macho, masculine and grungy look than he normally sports." Ajay took a personal interest in his entire look, instead of leaving all on the stylists he actually got involved in the process. His clothes in the film will be styled by Navin Shetty. The works have been done keeping in mind the character Ajay is playing. The credit for the same goes to director Rohit Shetty. Ajay is playing an extremely hyper character with a short fuse. He looses his temper at the drop of a hat and everyone is always scared of him. It's hard to figure what he would laugh or get angry about. Interesting! This is certainly new for Ajay. We wish him luck.

Shahid Kapoor's new bearded look for his film Mausam

Shahid Kapoor There is so much going on with the very popular Kapoor boy that it's almost exhausting. If the upcoming Paathshaala and the next in line Badmaash Company wasn't enough, Shahid is all geared up and looking edgy for his film Mausam that is still being shot. As he runs around for the promotions of Paathshaala and now Badmaash Company, it's hard to miss the beard he has kept. It keeps you on toes, while we wonder which of his looks will suit him. Was it the chocolate boy one which he kept for the longest period of time, was it the neat and clean look in Jab We Met, the hard core rough look he bore in Kaminey or is it this bearded one. Though he is definitely being complimented for this makeover on a social networking site and the Kapoor boy is more than overwhelmed as he replies "p.s thanks for all the compliments on the beard :)" While we know that this new look is definitely for Mausam, it has to be noted that he is playing an Air Force Officer in the film. The lady opposite him would be Sonam Kapoor who would play an innocent Kashmiri girl. Wow! Here's a couple that's new and fresh. This Pankaj Kapoor Directorial film and produced by Madhu Mantena who also produced Ghajini, is going to be shot in some rather exotic locales which will be shown as Kashmir Valley. One of them is Edinburgh in the United Kingdom where our good looking Kapoor boy dressed in the air officer's uniform is going to look every bit fetching. Watch out women... this one is going to take the cake away!

Jackie comes clean on romantic liaison with Riteish

Jacqueline Fernandez, Ritesh Deshmukh Jacqueline Fernandez has decided to announce 'enough is enough'. Ever since the promotion of Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai had begun, there were stories being planted around her romantic rendezvous with Riteish Deshmukh. Though she had initially decided to laugh it all away by terming it as 'silly gossip', Jackie is tired of continuous insinuations around that 'special something' brewing between the two. However, what has really got on her are the charges around such stories being deliberately planted to gain extra mileage for the film around its release. Jackie reacts. "After working in two films with Riteish, I was expecting that to happen. I wasn't surprised at all because such stories will come and really, everyone goes through it. However, don't people realise that such stories start rolling out right before the release of every film. Everyone with even limited brains would know that you are only putting two and two together. What is even funnier is that three months after the release of the film, the same people would be in tearing hurry to break your relationship. Because the two actors don't meet as regularly as before once the film has been released, stories start floating around cold vibes between the two", says a visibly irritated Jackie who is not quite willing to smile it all away anymore. She lightens up though when told that all of this only adds to the entertainment value for few who look forward to their weekly dose of celebrity gossip. "Entertaining? For sure, why not? But come on now, there has to be some limit to far fetched imaginations", she cools down after an earlier bout of outburst, "For work you are bound to be seen together all the time. Because you are spending an entire day with someone, you do grab lunch together. But something as simple like this makes people exclaim - 'Oh my God, they are wining and dining together'." She adds animatedly, "Think about it, just because you are in glamour business doesn't mean that there should be prying eyes all around you. A relationship between colleagues is so normal in every other profession. Even if you are an accountant, you will go out with your colleague and have lunch. However, you are not necessarily linked each time around, do you?" Ritesh Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Well, so where does the relationship status of Riteish and Jackie stand today? "We are good friends", comes her reply pronto, "With Riteish, it is like working with a buddy. We hang out and it makes a hell sort of difference. It is quite comfortable with him, you know. You can act much better and not worry too much about what your co-star is thinking. The familiarity factor comes in handy because you say to yourself - 'Ok, so it's cool because I have worked with him before'. I am at ease with him, both on and off the sets." We have heard that before but this time around, we are willing to be on Jackie's side!

Vipul Shah and Mani Ratnam to avoid clash of their films featuring Aishwarya

Mani, Vipul, Aishwarya Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has three very different releases coming up this year. And the most speculated question in the industry right now is, which performance would Aishwarya get all the popular awards for, the one in Mani Ratnam's Raavan or Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish? Those who have seen rushes of the two films say she has given her career's best performance in both. Then she has Vipul Shah's Action Replayy where she has attempted a full-on comic role for the first time. "Of course comedy which is the hardest genre to do is not taken seriously at the awards. But in my film Aishwarya has done comedy for the first time. She may have attempted it here and there earlier. But this is her first full-fledged comedy role. But she's welcome to get the awards for her other two releases, I don't mind," says Vipul Shah wryly. While Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish will release in November, the two Aishwarya projects Mani Ratnam's Raavan and Vipul Shah's Action Replayy are due in quick succession within a month. While Mani's Raavan is due for release June 18, Vipul was all set to release Action Replayy a month later in July, arguing that the two films are completely different in mood theme and treatment. But now it seems better sense has prevailed, thanks to the bitter experience that Vipul went through last year when his Salman starrer London Dreams was released a month after Salman's home production Main Aur Mrs Khanna. Then too Vipul had argued that two films with the same actor do not overlap when the films belong to the same genre. Now apparently Vipul has seen sense. He plans to sit down with Mani Ratnam and figure out a release strategy whereby neither film suffers. Says Vipul, "Raavan and Action Replayy are very different films. And I thought I'd come in July. But I think I'll now discuss it with Aishwarya and Mani Ratnam. We need to work as one big family in this industry. Besides I still have a song to shoot whereas Raavan is complete. I've yet to figure out when I can shoot it because both Aishwarya and Akshay are constantly travelling. We were supposed to shoot it earlier this year in the snow in Manali. Now we may go higher up at the Rohtang Pass, or change the location for the song completely." In the meanwhile those fearing competition from Guzaarish can breathe easy. Contrary to rumours Sanjay Leela Bhansali won't be releasing in Diwali. After Saawariya which was released during Diwali, he no longer considers the festive season auspicious for his films.
