Source: Entertainment - Google News | 10 Apr 2010 | 3:52 pm President Obama Ditches the White House Press Corps![]() Obama, back when he allowed the press to follow him to soccer games. President Obama pulled a fast one on the White House press corps this morning, leaving them behind while he went to one of his daughter's soccer games in northwest D.C. This might not sound like a big deal, but according to the AP, Obama "quietly breached years of protocol." Oh no. Apparently, right after Obama left the White House, a press aide gathered members of the media and shuttled them off to the game. But by the time they got there Obama was already heading back to the White House. So, according to the AP, "Reporters and photographers didn't have a chance to see him or his vehicle to verify his presence at any location." That sentence makes it sound like Obama was in a secret meeting with William Ayers and Jeremiah Wright. But don't worry. He wasn't. A CBS reporter saw him at the game. Unless, of course, what the reporter saw was actually a double. Obama leaves WH without press, breaking protocol [AP] Read more posts by Adam K. And then, what if Samuel L. Jackson was called in to find out where the bombs are? That's the premise of Unthinkable, a 24-ish action-thriller that will make you feel like it's 2009, when the country was caught up in an unending debate over waterboarding. By the anger in Jackson's face, though, we're guessing waterboarding is going to be among the more enjoyable techniques he employs. It's kind of hard to tell where this movie falls on the ideological line. On one hand, Jackson almost seems like the villain here. On the other there's this exchange:

CNN is giving you the chance later this month with three specials of Anderson Cooper 360 Live. We're not sure what it means for the economy, but according to the Times, the fabulously wealthy are starting to spend again! And not just on expensive dinners and fancy trips, but on big things like yachts, jewelry, and planes. Sabre Yachts in Maine plans to sell more yachts this year than last, and a charter company in Florida says people are back to renting, even if they're asking for yachts that are "50 feet shorter." Meanwhile, Tiffany's has seen an increase in the sale of pieces that cost over $50,000, and the purchase of private jets is on the rise. But even though the rich are back in the habit of spending, they're being smart about it. Like the shoppers at the Burberry shop in the Breakers Palm Springs, who "may spend the same amount as they once did," according to hotel president Paul N. Leone. "But if they do, they will get several items, rather than one thing." The Well-Off Are Spending Again — but Carefully [NYT] Read more posts by Adam K. Now, three months into Christie's term, some members of the New Jersey Education Association have gone from not liking him to wishing for his death. To wit, a memo sent out by the New Jersey Education Association stupidly contained the following prayer:
Christie responded furiously to the prayer, calling it "beyond the pale." He added, "I don't think it's a threat. I think it's a wish. A wish in some ways might be more perverse than a threat." The prayer first appeared a week ago on the Facebook page of "New Jersey Teachers Against Chris Christie’s Pay Freeze." After it was attached to the memo, though, NJEA president Barbara Keshishian apologized to the Governor: "Language such as that has no place in civil discourse. It was intended as humor, but it's not funny." That might be a little much. It was at least a little funny. Unholy NJ death wishers [NYP] Read more posts by Adam K. The network hopes the game show will replace As the World Turns, which will stop turning in September. This is the second time in two years that CBS has looked to Pyramid to replace daytime programming. Last year Wayne Brady's Let's Make a Deal beat it out in the race to replace Guiding Light. But there was a clear problem with the 2009 pilot, which was called The $1,000,000 Pyramid, that can be fixed by the addition of zeros. If people were going up for a one-billion-dollar prize, this might even reach DVR status. [HR] Read more posts by Adam K.
