Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 10 Apr 2010 | 7:29 am "I don't know if Raj-Rahul in me have woken up today" - Riteish Deshmukh
Years after making his debut in Tujhe Meri Kasam, Riteish Deshmukh is being seen in a romantic film all over again. Of course there is a strong element of humour which is an intrinsic part of Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai. Still, it is a welcome change to see Riteish get into a zone where he has been given ample space to woo his girlfriend, something which was neither in the case of his comic hits like Masti, Heyy Babyy and Apna Sapna Money Money nor in the recent serious release like Aladin.
Though Riteish is certainly hoping that this Milap Zaveri directed film turns out to be a success at the box office, he isn't willing to restrict himself to a particular genre. Moreover, he is still not shying away from doing serious or dramatic roles and reaffirms that given an opportunity; he would jump into them all over again.
"I have never let anything else dictate my choices, whether my hits or failures. What has been of utmost importance for me is whether I am suiting in a particular character or not. Ok, so fair enough that audience has accepted me in some roles and not so much in others. But still, I will definitely try to do other things as well", says Riteish as he lives out of a suitcase by frequenting multiple cities for the promotion of his newest release.
"Having said that, I will certainly do comedy as well as romantic films because I like doing that. However, if I get another serious film and it is good enough then I won't shy away from that. Regarding box office, it is a different thing altogether and no one can really see what's going to happen there", says Riteish whose last release Rann, despite some good critical acclaim coming it's way, just couldn't stand up at the box office.
"That's okay, we all grow and learn more about how to market a film", Riteish keeps his head high here, "All those who have seen Rann have appreciated it. But then perhaps we didn't market it well enough to create good enough curiosity amongst audience to check it out at theatres on its release. It's a collaborative effort when it comes to first making and then marketing a film. I am sure we would be doing better with every passing year."
No wonder, he is going all out for the promotion of Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai by going through more than half a dozen city tours across the length and breadth of India. Not just that, he is also making use of every other forum, whether online, print or satellite to create huge awareness around the film.
"This is something that one should learn well and learn really fast", says Riteish, "Making a film is all fine but what also matters is that how does one actually promote it so well that people get hungry enough to step into a theatre. See, in today's time, such effort is pretty much the need of the hour. Some films are star driven where an Akshay (Kumar) or a Shah Rukh (Khan) could pull audience all by themselves. On the other hand there are others where you have to get people in theatres just out of sheer merits of the product in hand."
Coming back to the fact that he is doing a romantic film after seven long years; one can't help but ask that what made him wait for so long?
"It's as simple as that - I never got a chance again", he smiles, "Today, I have got a chance to do a rom-com. Having said that, today I feel that I am much more confident than my first film. I can express and understand really well about what the character is going through."
Elaborating on the character played by him in the film, Riteish says, "He is someone who is really innocent and simple. There are so many things that go in the mind of this guy but somehow he is just not able to say that. In a few scenes, he is just talking to God and ends up crying. It's after a long time that I got a chance to portray such a character. There are films that offer you meat not just to perform but also just become a character and end up holding the film in entirety. Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is one film which has got it all."
Aah, now looks like there is a new lover boy in the town now. So do we see a Raj or a Rahul in Riteish waking up in a big way?
"Raj aur Rahul ka toh abhi kuch pata nahi abhi tak", Riteish gives a full throated laugh here, "See, I have lived in the generation of Shah Rukh Khan and it is a part of the upbringing to be familiar with Raj and Rahul. I am sure for people belonging to Shah Rukh's generation; it would be the character of Vijay that would have enjoyed similar status. Personally, for me it is great if I am playing a romantic character today."
Talking about romance, now that he is working with Jacqueline Fernandez a.k.a. in Jaane Kahan Se... again after Aladin, one can well expect that there must have been an enhanced comfort level of sharing screen space with her, right?
"Absolutely", says Riteish promptly, "Even in Aladin, we got along very well so while doing Jaane Kahan Se.... , it was like being in a Part 2. Milap, Sujoy (Ghosh), Jackie and I are great friends and we all hang around together. So yes, there is this great comfort level that comes in."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 10 Apr 2010 | 7:26 am Subhash K. Jha on Prince
Look what the cool cat dragged in! It's not a bird (though he does fly across the sky). It's not a plane (though many of those in many shapes and sizes are seen hovering in the film's spectrally-shot skyline). And it's definitely not Superman. Though, Mr Oberoi wouldn't mind being one.
Hey guys, it's our own Vivek Oberoi, playing hard-ball with various girls' gadgets, gizmos and gimmicks.
Vivek plays Prince, a James Bond on a mission not quite impossible travelling at a speed faster than sound. Prince has no choice. He has lost all his memory which has been sucked out of him like juice gone through a sugarcane grinder.
To his credit, Oberoi carries off the ceaseless stint with the stunt with arresting aplomb. Most often, because of his memory loss, we see him wearing a look like he just smelt something foul in the kitchen and isn't sure if it's the milk got burnt or his mom's favourite recipe simmering in a pot.
Oh, there are no weeping moms in the potty plot. Only screeching wheels, high-octane stunts and high-octave songs shot mostly like music videos rather than as integral parts of the story. And then there are the 3 Mayas, each trying to outdo the other in the stunts and the clothes, or lack of them. They are all seem to love our hero to death, an entity which lurks in every slick corner of this emotion-less but attractive package of oomph and wallops.
Where, you are not allowed to wonder, is the plot leading to? Why is Prince so hyper about his memory-loss? It will come back to him, like a blast from the past. Quite like the bolt that finally hits the film's arch villain Sarang (played by someone called Isaiah, whatever!).
Oberoi's Prince goes into convulsions of self-doubt quite like Shakespeare's Prince of Darkness who often wondered, To Be or Not to Be? But hush! Bringing Shakespeare into this film is like comparing Dhoom to Kabhi Kabhie.
Be warned. Prince is more the Bourne territory than Ghajini. The expertly-executed stunts (Allan Amin, you are the man!) frequently see our hero jumping down high-rise buildings in breathtaking leaps of fate, with the camera (Vishnu Rao) pulling back in respectful awe. Of course our Prince is essentially shock-proof and crease-free. Don't mind the bruises scratches bandages and, yes I forgot, the memory lapse. Prince is invincible!!!
So when was the last time you viewed a film where the heist-happy hero undertakes fifty adventures in museums and banks, stealing diamonds and merchandise worth trillions?
John Abraham in Dhoom, Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2, Ajay Devgn in Cash?? You get the drift. Just float away in the stylish mumbo-jumbo that debutant director Kookie Gulati serves up with the swaggering flamboyance of an arms-merchant who loves his guns.
Prince wears its super-cool shirt with the slogan 'Come Watch Me' with a little bit too much aggression. But if you love popcorn crunching adventure stories watch Vivek Oberoi play the hero from the hemisphere of hijinks. And he pulls it off effectively.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 10 Apr 2010 | 4:17 am Rama Rama Krishna Krishna music release, songs downloadRAMA RAMA Krishna Krishna is expected to entertain the Tollywood fans sometime this summer. This has to be an extremely uncanny co-incidence ever to have happened in Hindi cinema:
Just when we have Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik being accused of bigamy on the eve of his wedding to Sania Mirza, there is Sajid Khan's Housefull coming up with situation that bears an uncanny resemblance.
In the comedy, Akshay Kumar's wedding to Deepika Padukone is rudely interrupted by a woman, played by Jiah Khan, claiming to be his wife.
When questioned about the similarity, Akshay Kumar says, "I never thought of it. Now that you've pointed it out I guess there's a resemblance. Actually I've three women claiming to be my wife in the film."
But the actual sequence where Akshay's wedding to Deepika is interrupted, is too close to the happenings in the life of the Pakistani cricketer and Indian tennis player to be just a coincidence.
Protests the director Sajid Khan, "What can I say, except that this is a case of life imitating art? We do have a sequence where Akshay's wedding is interrupted by a woman claiming to be his wife. Compounding the similarities with the real-life situation which are grabbing headlines is the fact that the first wife's claims are not as simple as they seem. But I repeat the similarities are coincidental. I wrote my script two years ago."
Be as it might, the similarity between Shoaib Malik's and Akshay Kumar's predicament seem to be a case of perfect timing.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 10 Apr 2010 | 4:09 am Aishwarya wants Jaya to join Twitter - Total Filmy

They don't make 'em like they used to. Those wholesome take-home-to-Mama type of chicks .And they don't make such innocent yeh-kahan-aa-gaye-hum rom-coms either. So naturally, or not so naturally, writer-turned-director Milap Zaveri gets his heroine, the toothy, endearing wholesome and fetching Jacqueline Fernandez to fly down to earth from Venus, one-way, business-class.
Women, we were always told, were from Venus. Now we've proof of that.
Many of this pleasant film's most likeable moments send out inoffensive echoes of Hollywood comedies about ladies from another world, like Splash and My Girlfriend Is An Alien. The final brew is aromatic in scent and minty in taste. The effect lasts fleetingly, though.
The situations that crop up, once the alien beauty lands, range from the predictable to strained. No one in this film is in it for posterity. It's a film done with a wink and a chuckle that communicate itself to the audience effectively.
Everyone in Zaveri's film is looking for love. Riteish Deskhmukh, more so than others. Apparently love has been eluding his character since infancy. Baba's searching.
There's a touch of Ram Gopal Varma's Rangeela in the way the vagaries and eccentricities of the film industry are brought into play. Strangely Milap's writing skills, so much on display in many of the most successful comedies in recent times, is missing in the scenes set within the Bollywood film industry.
Sure. We get a good dekko at well-known stars. But they aren't woven into the script as they were in other films about the film industry like Guddi and Rangeela.
The scenes where Riteish courts the delectable ingenue from outer space lack subtlety but get marks for grace. Riteish Deshmukh, a competent performer in any given circumstance, is engaging in the comic moments, but a little awkward doing the full-on roses-and-moonlight stuff. Matinee idol making girls faint, Deshmukh ain't.
Ruslaan Mumtaz, as his adversary in love, is a pleasant surprise. Over the handful of films that this young actor has done he shows a definite growth as an actor. He plays the 'superstar' as a stereotype but with a dash of the human quality. Could we see more of Ruslaan in forthcoming films, please?
Jacqueline's is more a presence than a performance. She is that mermaid with wings who flies at an altitude where the desi rom-com is comfortably positioned as a family affair. Absence of vulgarity and double-meanings is not always a virtue in cinema. In Jaane Kaahan Se Aayi hai, it is the papier-mache pristine quality that props up the pleasant proceeds.

If there was an award for someone who works 25 hours rather than the instituted 24 hours and lives and eats 'acting' day in and out, it has to be indeed the one and only Anupam Kher! Wonder where on earth he gets so much of energy from! Having started as an old man (G.V. Pradhan to be precise in the historic Saaransh), Anupam Kher went onto do films which made him into a legend of the highest order!
After having made his mark in Bollywood in various arenas (actor, producer, director etc...), this actor par excellence has now been signed up as the Brand Ambassador for Proctor & Gamble's 'Project Shiksha'. Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, Anupam said "Its P&G's campaign about child education. I have worked with a lot of children's causes. That's why they asked me to be the brand ambassador for 'Project Shiksha'. It's a project which deals with girl child in general. As the brand ambassador, I will be bringing in awareness regarding the importance of education and now with government introducing the Education Bill; it only further facilitates the cause."
As a famous philosopher once remarked "One cannot just improve perfection!" Likewise, there's so much to Anupam Kher that one falls short of words to praise him. All that we can say is that along with Bollywood, Bollywood Hungama is also proud of you, Anupam!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 9 Apr 2010 | 8:29 am Vidya Balan to play Silk Smitha?
Vidya Balan has time again managed to bag roles which any other actress would give her right hand for. Whether it was the sensual performance in Parineeta, or playing the bold and sexy woman in Ishqiya or playing mommy dearest to Amitabh Bachchan himself in Paa.
So when casting for a film based on a strong yet sensual woman is being done, it's hardly a surprise that Vidya Balan seems like an obvious choice. Sure enough then Ekta Kapoor's next film, that chronicles the life of the infamous actress Silk Smitha, is into pre- production, the lead is being discussed and the buzz is that it's Miss Balan herself who will play the dare all Silk Smitha in the film.
Unlike what seems to be the obvious, the film does not revolve around the sleazy image that this late actress got stuck with, instead it's about how the industries complexity, stress and the eventual loneliness that led to her death. Silk Smitha was a south siren, a cult figure that defied conventions and made it on her own, circumstances and alcohol drove her to what is believed to be a death by suicide.
Milan Luthria, who is currently making Once Upon A Time In Mumbai for Ekta's banner will be directing this film.
Vidya Balan however hasn't confirmed the news.
But one thing is for sure, if Vidya is the one who would be playing this part, the film is a winner already.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 9 Apr 2010 | 5:52 am Riteish demands Ruslaan to take centre stage - Literally!
Time and again one hears of how actors tend to short-change their colleagues, especially when they happen to be junior in experience. Talks about roles being cut and egos taking over the proceedings are not uncommon.
It was a different situation though in Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai where things were just the other way round. During the choreography of 'Nacha Mein', a dance number in the film where entire cast of the film participates, Riteish was the natural choice to lead from the front. Reason being that he is the main lead of the film and seniority as well as relevance of his role dictates that the focus stays on him.
However, Riteish surprised everyone, including choreographer Bosco and director Milap Zaveri, when he suggested that it should instead be Ruslaan Mumtaz, the second lead in the film, who should hold the centre stage for this fusion club number that has a 'bhangra' base to it. Riteish's logic was simple; he wanted to go by the characterisation for the film rather than the real life standing in the film industry. Since Ruslaan plays a superstar in the film while Ritiesh is an Assistant Director, he felt that it would just be right if the song picturisation focused more on Ruslaan. Though this impromptu decision surprised quite a few, it definitely brought on a smile on the face of Ruslaan who was humbled by the entire experience.
Confirms Milap, "Yes, this indeed happened during the shoot of 'Nacha Main'. We were all set for the shoot and were through with rehearsals and all. Just when we were about get into an actual take, Riteish came up with this idea of putting Ruslaan in the front. Everyone was pleasantly surprised."
Amazed by this gesture of Riteish, Milap adds, "Riteish and I have been friends and share a great comfort level where we do bounce ideas to each other. However, on that day it was the respect factor which came in as I further realised that he is not just a fantastic human being but also a team player who thinks more about the film than his own self. This is my first film as a director and though I have just heard stories of actors playing truant on the sets, an incident like this made me feel happy that I am at the right place with right set of people."
On a lighter note, he adds, "It's a different matter though that my choreographer Bosco had to re-conceptualise the entire sequence all over again. Since Ruslaan was in the front, Riteish had to go behind him; something which changed the entire sequence of steps."
Riteish just smiles it all away when asked about this gesture of his, "It's not a big deal actually. Yes, I did suggest this but its okay. One has to look at things practically rather than going by egos. In 'Nacha Main', it would have looked awkward had Ruslaan been off focus. Someone who is playing a superstar should lead from the front."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 9 Apr 2010 | 4:45 am "I'm getting married on June 19 but its not arranged marriage" - Manisha Koirala
After her marriage Manisha Koirala will now spend more time in her home-town Kathmandu than in Mumbai.
One of Bollywood's most beautiful and footloose divas, Manisha Koirala is all set to get married finally. Just back in Mumbai after an extensive shoot in Kerala for Malayalam film Manisha can barely contain her excitement.
She says, "Yes, I'm getting married to Samrat. He's from Nepal, like me. But please, it is not an arranged marriage. Yes, our families know one another for some years now. So there was a comfort level between me and Samrat for a very long time. Gradually the bonding grew from friendship to love. And when Samrat asked me to marry him I agreed."
Manisha returned to Mumbai from Kerala on Wednesday morning to the news of her marriage all over the place.
She laughs, "I was totally cut off in Kerala shooting for Shayam Prasad's Malayalam film. I had no idea my marriage plans were being discussed in my absence. Now I see dates and venue in the papers. Like I said the wedding is on June 19. It will take place in Kathmandu and will be attended by Samrat's and my close family and friends."
Manisha will now spend more time in Kathmandu. "That's where Samrat is based. He is into many kind of business ventures including a project in alternate energy. So yes, one thing will change. Mumbai used to be my first home. Now Kathmandu will be my first home. But I'll continue to be a Mumbai girl at heart and will have a home here."
So is her dream of a home in Paris over? "No way!" says the fiery Nepali beauty. "My dream home in Paris has just been postponed for a while. Now instead of me alone it will be my husband and I sharing a Parisian home."
In fact the couple plans to honeymoon in France.
Speaking on cutting down her work Manisha says, "I've been cutting down my assignments for a few years now. So it's not as if I've been working frantically. I will continue to do selected films after marriage."
As forthright as ever, Manisha volunteers the information that she broke up with her last boyfriend, the American Chris Dolan long ago. "We split quite some time ago. But we continue to be friends. That's the way I like it in my life. Even when a relationships ends the friendship continues. I don't like any negativity around me. I'd like all my friends to wish Samrat and me a happy married life."
Samrat apparently is shy of the limelight. "He had his picture removed from a social networking website as soon as our marriage was announced. Samrat will have to get used to public attention after we get married."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 9 Apr 2010 | 4:12 am "I should be a designated tourist ambassador for Venus" - Jackie
Jacqueline Fernandez a.k.a. Jackie has learnt the tricks of the trade and done so really fast. Not to be disturbed by thousands of rumours and link up stories making the rounds, Jackie is smiling it all away and having fun in Bollywood. For someone who stepped into the world of movies 2.5 years back and began her career with Aladin, Jackie has come a long way with Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai up for release, an item number in Housefull being much talked about and a major soft drink commercial (featuring her along with Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt) currently on air. As she dominates air space week after week, Jackie talks to Joginder Tuteja about her special film, the difference between working in JKSAH and Aladin and many other things.
If aliens really look like you, rest assured there would be many out there who would love to visit Venus. (Laughs) Yeah, I know, whether you could go there or I could ask my friends from Venus to fly down to Earth. Jokes apart, I am so happy with all the response that I have fetched for Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai ever since the promos hit air. There have been hundreds of messages on Twitter with queries like whether girls really look like me in Venus. You know the kind of silly harmless questions that teenagers ask. I think I should really approach authorities at Venus and ask them to make me their designated tourist ambassador. Seems, there is quite some curiosity about the planet today.
In the film you are wearing some short clothes. Were you comfortable with the thought, especially so because in Aladin you were covered from top to bottom?
See, Aladin was more of a family entertainer and it was great doing it. It's because of that film that I have all my kiddie fans today. However, JKSAH is more for young adults and hence you have to cater to them. Was I worried about my clothes? Not at all because when you have Nikhil as a producer, you know that styling would be taken care of as he has great sense of styling. One cannot look vulgar for sure. Also, there is a way to wear a particular dress because vulgarity comes in when you portray stuff wrongly. Also, a lot has to do with your character and personality. Now these were some things that were pretty much taken care of in the film.
Well, there is a scene in the film where you are wearing lingerie over your clothes...
And isn't that hilarious? I mean this is a real example of how something looks cute rather than being risqué! This particular shot as well as many others that are devised around my shopping sequence were written impromptu on sets. We would come to the sets, read scenes and then add our own bit. There was a lot of improvisation involved and if you look at the original script and the final product, you would see so many changes.
Well, Milap and you appear to be having a serious mutual admiration society building up... (Laughs) I keep telling Milap that he has given me a dream role. The script written by him is so amazing and in fact when he had handed it over to me, I did ask him if he felt I was capable enough to do it. But he put so much of faith in me. See, not everybody gets such a good role in her very second film but I got it. Of course it is mutual that I worked even harder to ensure that I live up to the expectations. I owe so much to Milap; in fact I kind of kind of adore him.
Well, talking about adoration, there have also been talks about that 'special something' brewing between you and Riteish. While it has become a trend of sorts to have talks about an affair between the lead pair days before the release of a film, doesn't it become a little too annoying after a period of time?
The only thing that matters is my family and the people I work with and I get really concerned when such news pieces start making rounds. I get worried about what they would be thinking about their daughter. Also, I don't want industry people to get any wrong ideas because I have to interact with them for many more years to come. I am here for work and people should understand that I am serious about work rather than involving myself in any frivolities.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 9 Apr 2010 | 4:06 am Sultry Vidya to play sexy Silk Smitha - Times of India
