Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 8 Apr 2010 | 4:11 am Javed Akhtar gets doctorate; will also make his directorial debut in 2011
On April 2, Javed Akhtar was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University Of Pondicherry.
And proud wife Shabana who has been conferred the doctorate thrice over by Leeds University in the UK in 2005, Jadavpur University in West Bengal 2003 and Jamia Milia University on Delhi in 2008 can't stop preening.
Jokes Shabana, "Now there are two resident doctors in the house, in addition to the doctor who comes daily to look at my fractured leg."
To her dismay Shabana couldn't be with Javed for this proud moment in Pondicherry because of her leg. Another dear old friend of hers Farouq Abdullah was also given a doctorate along with Javed Akhtar.
Farouq and Shabana go back a long way. Remember Shabana's infamous pillion ride on Farouq's mo'bike down the main street of Srinagar?
Shabana would rather forget it. "That was so long ago. Poor Farouq! He hasn't been able to live it down, although it happened in 1984! It was such a spontaneous action and lasted all of two minutes. Anyway I'd have liked to be there to cheer my husband and Farouq."
Javed who last month got inducted into the Rajya Sabha is more guarded in his enthusiasm. "In the South they take the honorary doctorates very seriously. Kamal Haasan who is a Class 8 drop-out is referred to as Dr. Kamal Haasan in Tamil Nadu. I went, got my doctorate and came back. I feel the same. Now I'm preparing for my maiden speech in the Rajya Sabha."
Whether Javed known to possess a gift of the gab gives an impromptu speech at the Rajya Sabha or goes fully prepared would depend on what issues have to be addressed.
At the moment Javed seems to have cut down his film work to focus on various non-cinema activities. He will now direct a film in 2011.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 8 Apr 2010 | 4:07 am Preity Zinta happy for Shah Rukh's IPL team - Times of India

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 8 Apr 2010 | 3:54 am "I hope I get that much needed commercial box office success" - Ruslaan Mumtaz
"I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing but everyone has unanimously said that I look like no other actor in the film industry. There is no one as good looking as me they say", quotes Ruslaan Mumtaz. Sitting casually as if he were ten to fifteen films down, this young actor possesses confidence which is sky high. Is that good? Is that bad? Only the box office can judge him better. Awaiting his third release is Ruslaan. The guy from Earth, he is humble, sweet and rooted...rooted to his films and to what he does best - acting. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent caught up with the upcoming actor to know more about Jaane Kahan Se Aaye Hain , Riteish Deshmukh, Nikhil Advani and why Jacqueline Fernandez is a better gamble than Katrina Kaif in Bollywood.
Your third release. First didn't work, second got a critical acclaim. Will the third one get you the much needed commercial success?
I hope I get that much needed commercial box office success. As an actor, I'll keep on working but as a hero, these are the few chances you get early on in your career. If I don't deliver this time around, it'll get tougher and tougher each time. One day a point comes that everyone will say, "Ruslaan, you cannot become a star, so please act." I don't want to reach that stage. I hope because of Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, producer Nikhil Advani and director Milap Zaveri, people come to see Jaane Kahan Se Aaye Hain.
Is the film a kriss kross, a miss match of sorts when it comes to romance? That's what we hear.
Friendship is love. We've had this theme in lot's of movies before. JKSAH is also around the same area. The concept of JKSAH is - A boy from Earth and a girl from Venus. There isn't a miss match or a kriss kross. You need to see the film to see what happens.
Is JKSAH a risk as far as the genre is concerned?
Any film is a risk, isn't it? If you make a film with Akshay Kumar, you have to make it at a certain budget, a budget higher than a Riteish Deshmukh film. JKSAH is a risk and even an Akshay Kumar film is a risk.
Do you see yourself doing an ensemble cast film or a few solo projects too?
My first two films were solo projects. After seeing both my earlier films, I got bored of myself. If I as a viewer cannot watch my films again and again, that means I need to work with other actors who are interesting. I watch Riteish's films. Whichever films he has been a part of in the last five years, I've never missed any. To do a film with him makes sense as an audience also. The way my role was written tempted me even further to work in JKSAH. After reading, I found out that any young actor like me would really benefit from this film. So I grabbed this brilliant opportunity to work with Riteish and Jacqueline.

His characters struggle to do the right thing sometimes, but as an actor, Abhishek Bachchan has rarely put a foot wrong. Critics love him, magazine writers fawn over him, and he's developed a fan base like no other, largely because his performances are most often off-kilter, angled and light, full of soul, tenderness, toughness, sincerity and grace, expressed through the liquid cadences of his voice and his diction, his beautiful man-boy face, and the unerring and particular use of limbs to amplify and enhance. One could go on.
At 1.30 in the night, Abhi (as we love to call him) arrives in his booked room at the Rennaisance Powai Hotel where I am waiting for him along with his personal PR, Shalmana, who's giving me company since 10pm. A firm handshake and he wastes no time getting down to business. Abhi has just returned after finishing his first shot for the film Game he is filming along with actress Kangna Ranaut in the hotel. It's a night shift from 9pm to 9am. At just more than 6ft, there's a lot of him. He's wearing jeans with a dark grey hooded jumper over his white t-shirt. His black hair is a touch unruly, his big eyes split wide open ready to catch the questions and his long face all lit up in a room with dim lights. Before we begin our Q and A, the actor quickly orders some food. He is hungry but first thing's first - the interview. And seconds before we start off, he apologises for his late coming. But that's what makes him Abhishek Bachchan. His generosity and honesty which pours out from his heart, his respect and professionalism which he wears on his sleeves, and his vulnerable charisma which makes you think - Hang on! It's never too late.
In this exclusive two part Q and A, with UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent, it's the first time Abhishek Bachchan goes all out to talk about his inspiration, meteoric rise, maturity, responsibility, failures, fans, family discussions, finances, his love for twitter, music and food, his hatred for shopping and the word which he thinks defines and will define his career for years to come - 'Good Luck'.
How do you describe your maturity when it comes to decisions about what films to green light, as a producer of your film Paa, as a husband and as a proud son of Mr and Mrs Bachchan?
I don't put it down to maturity. To be in the film business it is very important to be immature. You need to be in touch with the child within. That's where you get the innocence and excitement from. We tend to get very jaded and cynical as we grow older, seeing the world around us and the troubles that come with it. It's very important to retain a certain amount of wonder and innocence. The most successful people in the film fraternity are basically children at heart. We still get excited when we read a script that grabs our fancy. I've never been the kind of actor who has managed to break down why I should do a film. I still have this naïve notion that if you are convinced and you put in a convincing performance, your audiences will buy it. If I plot and plan too much, somewhere I'm not going to get that conviction because I'm not going with my heart but going with my mind. The decision to do Paa and to produce it was like a child taking the decision. That's why it worked on a conceptual level.
What sort of film discussions do you and your family have on the dinner table?
When our family sits together and eats food, we never have film discussions. It's a rule that my mother set when we were kids. My father would never talk about films. While we were kids, my grand father (Abhishek's grand father was one of India's most celebrated poets - Harivanshrai Bachchan who died in 2003) would talk about things like literature, world politics, events, his experiences, etc. I remember sitting and listening to all the discussions my family members and guests would come up with while I was a kid. It was very educational. It wasn't just only films, films, films and films. I read my first film magazine when I was eighteen years old. It was called Filmfare. I thought that it was just an awards show. I attended my first Filmfare award function when I was eighteen years old.

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 8 Apr 2010 | 3:01 am "Now Milenge Milenge release depends on Kareena" - Boney Kapoor
The release of Milenge Milenge now depends on Kareena Kapoor. Producer Boney Kapoor met her for the publicity of the film before she left for Goa to shoot for Ra.One. Shahid Kapoor has done his bit. Now it's up to Kareena Kapoor to see when their pending film Milenge Milenge is released.
Shahid shot the music video for the film with choreographer Ahmed Khan on March 26. The track written by Sameer Anjaan and composed by Himesh Reshammiya goes... 'Sab kuch khatam hokar bhi tere mere darmiyaan kuch to baqi hai...'
And now Boney waits not-so-patiently for Kareena to do the needful. Says Boney, "Yes, now the release would depend entirely on when Kareena allots the dates to shoot the music video. I've slotted the release for the last week of June or the first week of July. I'm hopeful that Bebo's portions of the music video and other publicity footage would be shot and ready. So yes the release is now in Bebo's hands."
Kareena who is in Goa doesn't quite share Shahid's enthusiasm for the publicity and marketing of Milenge Milenge.
Boney doesn't deny he met Kareena over the matter. "But she made it clear she was willing to co-operate in every way. Let's put this way. I don't want to put Bebo under any discomfort. She's a girl I've watched grow in front of my eyes and I'm very protective of her."
Boney insists it's a marketing strategy to feature Shahid and Kareena separately in the promotional video. However, the fact of the matter is, Kareena for whatever reasons of her own decided not to do any collaborative marketing of Milenge Milenge with Shahid. And her space as a woman and a professional must be respected.
When told that that perhaps the other-half of the Milenge Milenge pair was not willing to do collaborative publicity Shahid reacted with annoyance. "Arrey yaar I'm all for the film. I'm willing to do whatever Boneyji asks me to. I don't know about the rest."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Apr 2010 | 2:59 am Simha to hit cinema houses on April 31'Simha' is all set to release on April 31 putting an end to the long wait by Telegu film fans. The very name of Dara Singh brings all vivid memories of Lord Hanuman in the epic serial Ramayan, that not just revolutionized but also evolutionized the idiot box into a smart one!
Continuing this 'legacy' was his son, Vindu Dara Singh, who also donned many an avatars and went onto entertain the audiences from 6-60! These avatars ranged from playing Lord Hanuman till the recent reality show 'Bigg Boss', in which he emerged as a clear winner! Well, if that wasn't enough, Vindu can now be seen as a tiny gaming character in the second level of 'Pepsi The Game' that will premier on the TV screens tomorrow (Thursday, April 8). Sources close to Bollywood Hungama said that, "Vindu will don a never seen before look! It will be that of a 1-foot tall gaming character called 'Funk-Key'! Vindu aka Funk-Key, will pose as the second challenge to Youngistaan's heartthrob, Ranbir Kapoor. For the uninitiated, in the first level of 'Pepsi The Game', Ranbir gets stuck under water. And now, in the second level, Sanjay Dutt - the Game Master sends his under-sized champ, Funk-Key to stop Ranbir from getting closer to his Pepsi. While Ranbir doesn't find tiny Funk-Key a threat initially, wait and watch what happens when hundreds of Funk-Keys appear in front of him.
Talking about his look in 'Pepsi The Game' Level 2, a visibly excited Vindu said, "When Pepsi guys approached me with the concept and a sketch of the look, I asked them if they're making the Indian version of Star Wars! I had to wear a funky orange, silver and green costume, which was quite heavy and I had to fly wearing the same in one of the sequences using harness... so, it was tough but lots of fun". He also added that "Pepsi The Game is a big-budget, high-value production with a lot of special effects to make me look much smaller and create hundreds of clones. I am glad all the hard work has resulted in a great looking and entertaining concept that has never been seen on the Indian television screen. So, watch out for me as 'Funk-Key' in 'Level 2' of 'Pepsi The Game', he added.
Talking about the whacky name 'Funk-Key', our sources told us that it was actually Vindu who named his character as he found the look extremely funky. Not just that, he is also shown guarding a key that Ranbir has to find to reach his Pepsi and the hot WOW girl, Jacqueline Fernandez!
Is there anything that we can say now... except for, "Wow! Vindu... you are simply the flavour for the season!"Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Apr 2010 | 9:58 am Balwinder Singh Sandhu trains Akshay Kumar for Patiala House
Akshay Kumar is taking his ace-bowler's role in a forthcoming film Patiala House dead seriously. Ever since he returned from his back-therapy in Germany, Akshay has been training rigorously under former cricketer Balwinder Singh Sandhu. Currently Balwinder is associated with the Indian Cricket League (ICL).
Akshay wants to continue training steadily and regularly so that his bowling skills are super-sharpened by the time he starts shooting.
Says the Patiala House director Nikhil Advani, "Akshay has been training diligently and religiously. His coach Balwinder Sandhu even joined him at Malshej Ghat for Farah's film. Because right after that our cricket sequences start in London."
Advani's British sports co-ordinator Robert Miller who co-ordinated the hockey and cricket scenes in Chak De and Dil Bole Hadippa, respectively, is down in Mumbai right now finalizing the list of international cricketers who will play with Akshay Kumar in Patiala House.
Explains Advani, "We're looking at international cricketers from all over the world...England, South Africa, Australia, Bangladesh...The fact that the IPL matches are on makes our job easier because Robert can meet and negotiate with a lot of international cricketers while they are here."
The film also requires county-level and regional cricketers whom Miller will finalize once the big-name cricketers are finalized.
Says Advani, "I basically need the cricketers from May 25 to June 5 for the various games that we'll be shooting in England. So we can work our schedules according to the cricketers' date diaries."
This, admits Advani, is easier said than done. "I've a real uphill task ahead. And I've stopped sleeping with anxiety. But I've one expert cricketer on my team already. My leading man Akshay Kumar. You've to see how well he bowls now."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Apr 2010 | 9:38 am Winona Ryder to comeback with comedyHollywood actress Winona Ryder has beaten competition from Uma Thurman and Kate Beckinsale winning a role in the latest Ron Howard movie.Source: | 7 Apr 2010 | 9:29 am Saat Khoon Maaf a unique film: PriyankaPriyanka Chopra, who earlier worked in Kaminey with director Vishal Bharadwaj, has just started shooting for Saat Khoon Maaf and says it will be a different movie.Source: | 7 Apr 2010 | 9:22 am SRK visits Juhi Chawla's brother in hospitalBollywood star Shah Rukh Khan spent a whole day in hospital where his friend and actress Juhi Chawla's brother Bobby is admitted.Source: Entertainment News | 7 Apr 2010 | 9:10 am John to play a cop in Vipul Shah’s nextJohn Abraham, who has been finalised for Vipul Shah’s Hindi remake of the Surya-Jyothika’s Tamil superhit film is preparing to bulk up for the role.Source: | 7 Apr 2010 | 9:07 am Slumdog team returns?Six Indian actors will play the lead roles in the adaptation of Vikas Swarup’s second novel, Six Suspects. We are happy to partner with MPC and are looking forward to an entertaining movie" said Bunty Sajdeh of Cornerstone Entertainment.
Yuvraj Singh commented "I am extremely excited to be a part of this movie. As a child I always enjoyed watching animation films and today I am humbled to be portrayed as an animated character. His could well be termed as the rise from the ashes. Down, though definitely not out till about a couple of years back, things had started moving for Vivek Oberoi when he began work on Prince and Kurbaan. Though Kurbaan didn't turn out to be spectacular from commercial standpoint, it still managed to fetch him the kind of visibility and critical acclaim that he was hoping for. And now with Prince seeing the kind of a massive solo lead release which is traditionally enjoyed only by the actors belonging to superstar league, Vivek has all the right reasons to believe that finally he has a good platform from where he can only soar higher. In a tête-à-tête with Joginder Tuteja, Vivek talks about the great situation that he is finding himself in today with his career showing an upswing all over again.
Vivek, are you satisfied with the buzz which has been created for Prince or would you have wanted it to be a little more?
Honestly, I am over the moon with the buzz. The promos are a rage, especially on the internet. In fact I am told that on Bollywood Hungama itself, the promos have broken records in terms of number of hits. The music too is burning the charts in the UK,
USA, UAE and of course India. So far it has been a dream and I only expect the momentum to reach its peak this Friday. Fingers crossed.
In the recent past, out and out action flicks like Luck and Acid Factory haven't quite worked with the audiences. Doesn't that make you a little scared about the film's prospects?
The biggest advantage of Prince is that it has a great story at heart, an interesting screenplay full of twists and turns and a fresh premise. It is not mindless action in isolation. The awesome music is yet another bonus. So yeah, to answer your question, there is no scare factor involved. We all are quite confident about the film's prospects.
Heist films too have seen mixed luck coming their way over the last few years. While Kaante has been the most memorable and successful of the lot, the technology and cinematic quotient too has taken huge leaps over last few years. Has Prince managed to take a step ahead?
Prince is more in the full-on entertainer space of films like Race or Dhoom 2. The film is a great blend of global and local flavour. While the technology and action is truly international with a global look and packaging, at heart Prince is an absolute Bollywood style entertainer which qualifies for being a 'paisa vasool seetimaar' film!"
There appears to be some really daring all around stunts happening in the film...
Yes, we believe that Prince takes Bollywood action to another level altogether. In fact, it took me 5 months of rigorous training to be able to pull off those phenomenal stunts all by myself without using a body double. The stunts and action sequences in the film are surely going to set your heart racing!
Prince arrives in the time period when no single film has worked at the box office. During last 6-7 weeks, there have been a couple of dozen box office disasters already. Do you really feel it is the right time, especially with IPL also in the running? On the contrary I feel that this is the best time for a film to arrive because Prince is the only big film releasing in April. Also, with diminishing interests in the IPL amongst audience, we hope they will come out and enjoy this mega treat - Prince - in the theatres.
Last but definitely not the least Vivek, in a way don't you feel that life has come back full circle for you after so many years? Finally, you are being interviewed on your films and performance rather than what is happening in your personal life?
Thank you for saying that (smiles). Yes, it is indeed a great feeling. I am so happy and grateful for this amazing change. I intend to keep it this way by only focusing on my one true love - Acting!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Apr 2010 | 4:39 am Nana Patekar embarrasses Ranbir Kapoor
That they got along like a house on fire during the shooting of Raajneeti is a well-known fact. And the main reason for it was their frank and forthright nature. Both Nana and Ranbir call a spade and don't care for the repercussions. During their long schedule in Bhopal, Nana and Ranbir had many meals together (to which no other member of the crew was invited) and discussed all things cinema from Raj Kapoor to Mehul Kumar.
But the fact that Nana's blunt speak could cause Ranbir public embarrassment had not been foreseen by the younger actor.
So it happened on Saturday in Delhi during a public event for Raajneeti. In front of media persons Nana declared Ranbir had no faith in the last film that starred Ranbir and Katrina, namely Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.
For a minute there was a stunned silence among the stars of Raajneeti, especially Katrina who tried not to look anxious and embarrassed.
Laughs Prakash, "Yes this incident did happen. A media person asked Nana if he feels Raajneeti would be a success. Nana rightly replied there's no predicting the box-office. That Ranbir had no faith in Ajab Prem â¦which was such a success. You know how Nana is. He speaks from the heart. "
Though Ranbir seemed quite cool with Nana's heart talk one wonders what the Ajab Prem... director Raj Kumar Santoshi feels about it.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 Apr 2010 | 3:15 am
