Actually, it wasn't quite clear what Aldrin was proposing, but it concerned "global space leadership." In other Dancing With the Stars news, Jimmy Fallon did a dead-on parody of Kate Gosselin's abysmal performance and in other making-fun-of-aging-American-heroes news, Jon Stewart went after John McCain for his recent claim that he's not a maverick. Yelchin will play a teenager convinced his new neighbor is a vampire, though sadly no one believes him. While we assume accusing someone of being a vampire in 1985 was considered rude, nowadays it's basically the equivalent of telling someone they look really sexy. [Heat Vision/HR] Gods Becomes Immortals: Relativity Media has changed the title of the upcoming Greek mythology epic War of the Gods to Immortals. Additionally, Isabel Lucas and John Hurt have been added to a cast that already includes Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Kellan Lutz, Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke. Hurt will play the “earthly manifestation” of Zeus, and Lucas will play Athena. Surely the name change had nothing to do with the fact that War of the Gods is basically a post-thesaurus.com version of Clash of the Titans. [Variety] Shark Attack: David R. Ellis (Snakes on a Plane, The Final Destination) has signed on to direct Shark Night 3D, which will begin shooting this summer in Louisiana. The film is being billed as “Jaws for the 3D generation,” though hopefully it won’t resemble the actual Jaws 3D, which was released in 1983 and nominated for five Razzies. [Deadline] Show Her Love: Robyn has announced that the first of her three planned “mini-albums” this year will be released June 7. The eight-track album will be titled Body Talk 1, and first single "Dancing On My Own" will also drop on the 7th. The two songs already leaked from the disc make us very excited about all this Talk. [Idolator] Return Of The Avenger: The Toxic Avenger, a 1984 cult comedy horror film which has spawned three film sequels, a stage production and a children’s cartoon, is being brought back to the big screen. The remake will be produced by Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein and Charlie Corwin and will reinvent the hero as a “green superhero for these environmentally conscious times.” Sounds like Greenzo’s about to get some competition. [Deadline] Party Of One: Kele Okereke, lead singer of Bloc Party, will be venturing out on his own for his debut solo album, called The Boxer, which will be released on June 22. The first single, “Tenderoni," will be out the week before. Okereke wrote about the project, “I've been keeping this secret close to my heart for a while now but I am excited to finally share this with you all.” Hopefully it wasn't a secret from his band mates, or that would be a major party foul. Put on by Sean Connery's Friends of Scotland nonprofit group, Dressed to Kilt is known as perhaps the most delightfully chaotic, ridiculously cheesy party of the year — the province of Al Roker in a kilt and Mike Myers dancing a jig with Sir Connery and Donald Trump looking on — not exactly the kind of event where you’d expect to find the most badass woman in rock. So why was Jett there? For the troops, it turned out. The event benefited the Wounded Warrior Project, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and the Erskine Hospital of Scotland, and though Jett is emphatically anti-war — "even if it’s something that seems justified” — she’s spent a lot of time doing USO shows. “When my first band broke up, the Runaways, I was kind of in a really bad place and I didn’t know what to do with my life, and for a very short period of time I really contemplated joining a branch of the military, just to get myself straightened out, to figure out what I was gonna do,” she explained backstage. “When my first dream ended and I was so devastated, I was just trying to get back on my feet. So what [the Army] was going to do was give me some space to get back on my feet, mentally.” Instead, just before enlisting, she met Kenny Laguna, her songwriting partner, producer, and current manager, and never went. Concerts for the troops and the Dressed to Kilt show are her way of making up for not having served. And she loves it, she said. “It just made me recognize that all these people are just like me, and all soldiers, it’s not like they want to go in and kill, kill, kill. A lot of times people do it for reasons like they want to go to school, get a scholarship, travel, meet other people, just get out of where they live and experience life a little bit. So I’m sort of an anti-war military person. Because you can’t blame the soldiers for the policy.” What does Jett think she could have brought to the Army had she joined? “I thought I’d be an aggressive soldier,” she said, laughing. “So, uh, yeah. Aggression.” Dressed to Kilt, of course, has another strong draw besides the good cause. The combination of copious Glenfiddich and the Scottish tradition of men going commando under their kilts means that anything can happen on the runway. Sam Waterston wouldn’t say whether or not he’d gone “traditional.” “Those things can’t be spoken of,” he said. Shani Davis, gold medalist in the men’s 1,000-meter speed skating in Vancouver, said he avoided flashing the crowd by treating the runway like a rink. “You keep your skater stride going, which I do every day, and you do okay. Keep your legs low. No high kicks. No dancing flares and you’re good,” he said. Matthew Modine abandoned his plan to ride a bike down the runway while wearing a kilt and wore trousers instead. “They were worried if I got off my bicycle wearing my kilt, that I might shock some people in the front row,” he said. And he ended up carrying the bike in the end, because “it might have been dangerous, maybe, for me to ride out on the catwalk, having had half a bottle of Glenfiddich.” So in the end, from our front-row seat, we saw little to no wardrobe malfunctions. Jett sympathized with our disappointment. “I didn’t see anything,” she said, clearly upset. “I heard all these amazing rumors about balls flying. It was all I could talk about all day. That was what everybody was telling me. I came for the balls!” Read more posts by Jada Yuan Filed Under: party lines, dressed to kilt, joan jett, matthew modine, sam waterston, sean connery, shani davis Source: The Cut | 6 Apr 2010 | 4:05 pm Can Someone Please Help Taye Diggs Get His Groove Back?

Our government's recession-era power grabs have pushed the United States out of the elite "free" tier and into lowly "mostly free" territory, right between Canada and Denmark. According to the report, "The U.S. government’s interventionist responses to the financial and economic crisis that began in 2008 have significantly undermined economic freedom and long-term prospects for economic growth." Just think about how much freer we could have been had the government let the economy slip into a depression! Source: Yahoo! News: Entertainment Reviews | 6 Apr 2010 | 3:31 pm Which of the Three Upcoming Projects Called Friends With Benefits Should Be Allowed to Survive?![]() Deadline's Mike Fleming reports today that Justin Timberlake is in final negotiations to star in Friends With Benefits, a romantic comedy about a guy and girl who enter into no-strings sex with predictable complications — not to be confused with Friends With Benefits, the upcoming Ivan Reitman–directed romantic comedy starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher as friends who have no-strings sex and fall for one another, or Friends With Benefits, the recently greenlit NBC comedy series about five sex-having, but uncommitted friends. Since only one project called Friends With Benefits about friends with benefits can possibly be permitted to exist, which one should it be? Obviously not the Timberlake one (because of his acting), but which of the other two sounds less like a stinker to you? She previously worked in finance, helping fashion companies secure funding. "Fashion’s dirty little secret is that no one really has a lot of money — even people who are well-known and household names,” she told WWD. “One designer’s first round of financing took 18 months to complete." With her new site, launching this fall, she aims to give young labels a shot at funding from the masses. Anyone can invest just $50 in a label they like. By buying a $50 stake in a company, “supporters” will be given credits to put toward clothing purchases, as well as special offers like exclusive previews, showroom visits and fashion show invitations. Interestingly, case studies have indicated shoppers value having personal experiences with designers more than getting discounts, Weng said. Supporters will also vote for the styles they would like to see produced.
The interesting thing about sites like Fashion Stake is what the concept could mean for fashion consultants. Many labels spend plenty of money to have editors or other advisers come in and tell them what they think women want. With a site like Fashion Stake, labels can go directly to the shopping masses with vested interest in the label and find out. And to think, established print fashion editors are still trying to wrap their brains around bloggers. No, this vision did not come to us in a glitter-dusted dream. Weir himself revealed his master plan last night at the Cinema Society's screening of Paper Man at the Crosby Street Hotel. "I'm trying to produce my own skating show ... but more like a spectacular, with five or six of the best skaters that I love and Lady Gaga and Elton John performing," he said. "How amazing would that be?!" We didn't bother to answer that highly rhetorical question and instead pressed Johnny for important details, like when can we get tickets? "I want it at Madison Square Garden so we need sponsors," he said. "As long as people get behind my idea, we'll be able to visualize what I want and get that support." Wearing a sparkling black blazer ("YSL, from the sixties"), Weir told us he already has a fan in Elton, whom he met in his post-Olympic travels. "Meeting Elton John and having him say, 'Oh my God, you were robbed,' that's the coolest thing in the world," he said. Weir would tap the likes of Sasha Cohen and Yu-Na Kim for his skating extravaganza, but don't look for an appearance by his gold-medal-winning rival, Evan Lysacek. "Evan is fine as a person. We've been competitors for years and years and years and that's kinda the forefront to us being people to each other," Weir said. "I think he worked very hard and he deserved that Olympic gold medal and he does a good job. He does his work. But as a person I don't really know him that well and we've never really made the effort to be nice to each other." But surely he must at least watch Lysacek on Dancing With the Stars? Elle's top editors spoke on a panel last night for WFIT, the Fashion Institute of Technology's radio and television broadcasting network. Of course the topic of fashion bloggers came up, and whenever they do at these things, Tavi's name usually comes up too. Elle creative director and Twitter fiend Joe Zee reiterated a point fashion news director Anne Slowey made when we spoke to her about Tavi a few months ago. "What am I getting out of a 13-year-old’s opinion about fashion? How does that help me distill the collections? What am I supposed to be buying? That’s what an editor’s job at a magazine is," she told us. Zee said last night: "You know, Tavi, like her or don't like her, she's 13 — whether she even really writes it herself, the idea that she has gotten all this attention, it's because of the Internet, not because of anything else. [At Elle] we're talking about people who have really done this their entire lives, who've really covered fashion, who really understand fashion ... understand the history of fashion, can critique it from a point of view, [can] actually relay it back to something they've experienced and understand. I don't think Tavi even knows what happened five years ago. She has every right to [post] on the Internet, she has every right to have the following she has ... everybody can follow her and find her creative or funny or quirky or inspiring, but the idea is there are people here [at Elle] who do know the history and I think that Anne [Slowey] stresses this. It's absolutely true: if you don't know what you're talking about, then do you really have the credibility to talk about it?"
"But there's also something beautiful about these fresh voices that can say something that maybe sometimes someone who does have a lot of credibility misses, or they see it through a really fresh eye. I think that's the debate that is going on in our industry full-stop, because we don't want to discredit years and years of experience and hard work and paying your dues and learning about what we do day to day, but there is something really beautiful about all of these really fresh perspectives that come out of the Internet."

The only thing missing from this clip are the little “tink-tink” sounds his feet make while walking. 12. The Orange Irishman. They’re definitely dangling a pint of Guinness on a string. 11. Anteater Marching. Much better than the similarly-titled Dave Matthews Band song, but then again, isn’t everything? 10. Give This Poor Son of a Bitch a Treat Already. Sometimes too much. (Cue dramatic music sting, black and white footage)
A man in Gerogia, Chad Ettmueller, dislocated his jaw when he tried to get his entire mouth around an enormous sandwich. Reports AOL News:
So that’s 10 layers of meat and 6 layers of cheese. After failing to be able to close his mouth around the sandwich, what with his dislocated jaw, he was then rushed to the hospital. While he was there, his best friend broke into his minivan where the sandwich was being stored (what?) and ATE IT. Some best friend! I don’t care what a sandwich does to you, it’s still your sandwich! The restuarant is now naming that very same sandwich after Chad.
He then raised an ice cold can of Dr. Pepper to his lips and smiled saying, “Nothing cures lockjaw like the doctor…Dr. Pepper!” And gave a thumbs up and a slow wink. Source: Best Week Ever | 6 Apr 2010 | 10:24 am New novel looks at witchcraft in Tudor England (AP)
