Last Night on Late Night: Craig Ferguson Says Conan Was Whacked

Craig Ferguson has always been hesitant to talk about the fiasco at NBC and last night, after guest Robin Williams wouldn't drop the subject, he explained he felt like Conan had become Joe Pesci's character in Goodfellas (prompting, of course, a De Niro impression from Williams). David Frum, now something of a Conan O'Brien figure in the conservative movement, appeared on The Colbert Report and explained why the current GOP strategy of repealing health-care reform is mathematically impossible. Needless to say, he probably should have made his argument on a show where the host listens to facts. On his show, David Letterman ran into some trouble operating his iPad, and on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Ricky Gervais confronted Fallon's awkward interview style instead of suffering through it as most guests do. Watch our compilation to see what you missed.

Greenberg Pair To Reteam For Popper's?: Ben Stiller and Noah Baumbach, who just paired up for Greenberg, may be working together on another project. The duo are both in talks to bring 1938 children’s book Mr. Popper’s Penguins to the big screen. Popper's tells the story of a house painter who ends up with a family of twelve penguins, named Popper's Performing Penguins, a "stage act that goes on tour and causes mayhem at every stop." As we already pointed out though, we're having trouble getting excited about a penguin movie that doesn’t feature the Madagascar variety. [Variety]

Three, Again: Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith) is in talks to direct Warner Bros.’ remake of The Three Musketeers. Strangely, British director Paul W.S. Anderson is already working on a 3-D adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas story for Summit. Perhaps this will play out like the infamous Antz/A Bug's Life "rivalry," just with French swordsmen instead of animated insects. [Variety]

Idols Reunited: Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard, the final two contestants in the second iteration of American Idol in 2003, will join forces for a co-headlining summer tour spanning the East coast and midwest. Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson still hasn’t responded to a text message Justin Guarini sent her in 2008. [Billboard]

Daldry Takes On Close: Stephen Daldry (The Hours, The Reader) will tackle another literary adaptation as he will direct Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, an adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s 9/11-themed novel. The book focuses on Oskar Schell, a nine-year old who searches New York for the lock that matches a key given to him by his father, who was killed in the September 11 attacks. So all that stands between Daldry and an Oscar nom is, well, finding an Oskar. [HR]

Toni Finds Foster: Toni Collette and Ioan Gruffudd will star in Foster, a Jonathan Newman-directed film about a couple who decides to adopt after their own son is killed when, all of a sudden, “a boy unexpectedly arrives on their doorstep.” Sort of takes wish fulfillment to a whole new stratosphere, huh? [Deadline]

Meloni Approaches Legends: Law & Order: SVU star Chris Meloni is spending his own money to option Legends of A Suicide, a collection of five short stories and a novella written by David Vann about a relationship between a boy and his Alaskan father, eventually leading to the father’s suicide. Meloni plans to direct and star in the film, and will write the first draft of the script. “The guy’s writing just seduced me,” Meloni said, which we just can’t help but find totally adorable. [Deadline]

Chad Tags In: Chad Lowe has joined ABC Family’s drama series Pretty Little Liars, based on the Alloy series of novels about four teen girls who begin receiving mysterious messages. He will replace Alexis Denisof in the role of lead actress Lucy Hale’s father. “Look at me now, Hilary!,” Lowe bellowed after getting the news, accelerating along the freeway. [HR]

An Album A Decade: Reflection Eternal, the duo consisting of rapper Talib Kweli and producer/rapper Hi-Tek, who debuted their first album in 2000, will reteam after a long ten years to release their follow-up, Revolutions Per Minute, on May 18. They may want to consider renaming the album VERY FEW Revolutions Per Minute, just so they don’t, you know, give anyone the wrong idea. [Pitchfork]

Considering the controversy leading up to it, Sarah Palin’s Fox News program, Real American Stories, was perhaps most notable for its relative lack of controversy. As Times critic Alessandra Stanley put it, Palin “gave a competent, but generic performance, as cheery and bland as any news anchor’s in the mainstream media she deplores.” In a tightly scripted showing, she spent the program primarily by introducing taped stories about inspiring Americans (the taped interview with Toby Keith made the cut, as did one with Jack Welch).

But Sarah being Sarah, she of course squandered no opportunity to convey her indefatigable spirit for all things patriotic and all things American, as captured in this highlight reel of her most America-riffic moments.

What’s the next best thing to scoring arguably the year's hottest part for a young actor in Hollywood? Scoring the role of the hottest part’s sidekick! Sebastian Stan, best known at this point in his career for playing Carter Baizen on Gossip Girl and dating Leighton Meester in real life, was one of the rumored finalists a few weeks ago for the role of Captain America, which eventually went to Fantastic Four alum Chris Evans. But it seems the casting directors were so charmed by the Romanian-born actor that they found a place for him in the franchise, casting Stan as Bucky Barnes, Captain America’s sidekick, who is a “teenaged orphan” in the comics and joins Captain America in his “Nazi-fighting escapades” after discovering the hero’s identity. Let's hope for the actors' sakes there were no Blair/Serena-style catfights in the waiting room, as Evans and Stan are going to be spending a lot of time together: according to insiders, Stan, like Evans, has signed on for "five or six" films in the series. Obama Approves Revamp of Security Checks on Flights to U.S.

President Obama, who has been signature-happy since passing health-care reform, has now signed off on a new security check procedure for people flying into the U.S. The new protocols will leverage intelligence information and assessment of threats to help identify passengers who could have “links to terrorism.”

“It’s much more tailored to what intelligence is telling us and what the threat is telling us, as opposed to stopping all individuals from a particular nationality or all individuals using a particular passport,” a senior administration official told the Times.

The idea is that this new system will not rely on matching names to no-fly watch lists, but rather use “fragments of information” about a passenger - family name, nationality, age, etc. - and cross-check them with intelligence reports to see if there are any red flags. The reports will constantly be changing (they are "built around present-day threat situations"), and the official made sure to stress that this isn’t “profiling in the traditional sense… it is intelligence-based.”

This system replaces the one hastily launched in January - after a Nigerian passenger attempted to blow up a plane landing in Detroit - in which passengers flying into the country from a list of designated countries were forced to undergo mandatory screenings. Had this new system been in place back when the "Underwear Bomber" attempted to get on his flight, the official said, “we would have had one more chance to stop him.”

S. Epatha Merkerson, who has been on Law & Order for longer than any other cast member (16 years!), has asked to be released from the show after this season. Merkerson gave producers enough warning so that the writers will be able to give her supervisor Lt. Anita Van Buren a proper send-off.

"It’s a graceful way to go," she said. "It’s time to move on. I’m doing other things and this will be a great way to leave what has been an extraordinary gig."

If Merkerson had stayed on just one more year, she could have been a part of history, as Law & Order is poised to become the longest-running series on television ever if it is picked up for a 21st season.

ABC and CBS Newscasts Hit Record Lows in First Quarter

CNN isn’t the only network hemorrhaging viewers in prime time this year. ABC World News, hosted by Diane Sawyer, has posted its lowest first-quarter ratings since Nielsen began tracking them in 1987. And things are no better at CBS, where Katie Couric’s Evening News hit a new low for the first three months of 2010.

But don't count out network newscasts just yet. NBC is actually doing better than in recent years, as Brian Williams’s Nightly News scored its best first-quarter ratings since 2005. Some experts are citing the Olympics for the boost, though we like to think his recent string of winning comedy spots may have had something to do with it.

Jersey Shore's Cast To Begin Filming Season 2

Before you know it, your Twitter feed and bar conversations will be dominated by America's favorite guidos and guidettes once again. MTV has picked up its core cast members to drive them down to Florida, where the second season of the reality juggernaut will be filmed. The cast is reportedly being kept “in total lockdown” and MTV has banned the use of cell phones during the trip southward. TMZ says Snooki and JWOWW were picked up in one car, while Pauly D and The Situation are riding down in a separate chariot. Apparently Vinnie, Ronnie and Sammi are just going to have to hitch rides and hope for the best. [TMZ]

Obama Calls Out Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck As ‘Troublesome’

"Well, I think that when you listen to Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck, [their "on-air vitriol"] is pretty apparent, and it's troublesome ... But keep in mind that there have been periods in American history where this kind of vitriol comes out. It happens often when you've got an economy that is making people more anxious, and people are feeling like there is a lot of change that needs to take place. But that's not the vast majority of Americans. I think the vast majority of Americans know that we're trying hard, that I want what's best for the country." —Barack Obama, in an interview with CBS's Harry Smith today, when asked if he is "aware of the level of enmity that crosses the airwaves" about him [HuffPo]

Charlie Sheen’s recent legal troubles do not seem to have had an effect on his self-worth. After People reported earlier today that Sheen wanted off CBS' Two and a Half Men when his contract expires at the end of this season, explaining that the actor “wanted to move on," a TMZ report tonight says that not only is Sheen looking to renew his contract on TV’s most-watched comedy, he’s asking for a major raise. Sheen, who could face jail time when he appears in court in July on felony and assault charges stemming from a Christmas Day fight with his wife, currently makes about $825,000 per episode. He is looking for $1.5 million per episode, TMZ says, significantly higher than the rumored Warner Bros. offer of $1 million an episode. Well, if Sarah Palin can score a million an episode, maybe Sheen kind of has a case. [TMZ, People]

Scott Roeder Gets Life Sentence for Murder of Abortion Doctor

Anti-abortion activist Scott Roeder was handed down a minimum mandatory life sentence, without the possibility of parole for at least 50 years, for the murder of George Tiller, a late-term abortion provider in Wichita, Kansas. Tiller was one of the few doctors in the U.S. providing abortions to fetuses past twenty weeks of gestation. Roeder, 52, admitted to stalking Tiller for a few months before the shooting, which took place as the doctor attended Sunday church services, and Roeder told the court that “he had to kill [him] to save unborn babies.” [Reuters]

So What Does My Mother Think About Jesse James?

Basically, what all of our mothers think. During a routine evening-time phone call to Mother Judy in Aventura, Florida, the conversation quickly devolved into her thoughts on the world’s most hated Cheater and Maybe-Nazi, Jesse James. Here is how the conversation went down:

Mother: You know who I hate? Jesse James. I hated him already last year on the Celebrity Apprentice. To me, I’m thinking ‘What kind of a celebrity is this? What does he do?’ Where did Sandra scrape him from? The bottom of a shoe? I think it has to be.

And then all these tattoos and this Nazi thing? You know? Really? I hope he dies.

Anyone who likes Hitler? I don’t understand! It’s like it’s chic to like Hitler! First Simon [Ed. Note: Of Real Housewives fame] now this animal? I hope they both die.

If she ever goes back to him, I’ll never spend a dime on her movies. And I loved this girl, I even liked that, uh, What About Steve. Even! She is sweet and a talented actress. But to marry this kind of hunk of sh*t? Seriously! Fooy. I can’t handle it. He’s a pig and I hope he dies in his own manure. Ma – Newer. (laughing) It’s a great word “Ma Newer.”

[This segues into a 10-minute long conversation of a Seinfeld that was on yesterday. We refocus:]

Me: Do you think she knew about his Nazi stuff?

Mother: If she knew it, I’m going to be very disappointed.

Me: Well, you know apparently he had a snowboard on the wall of his shop with a swastika on it.

(Very long silence…)

Mother: Well if she knew that this guy is into Nazi paraphernalia… then I spit on her as well. I’m sorry, but really.

*The end*

Stay tuned tomorrow for Mother’s Real Housewives recap.

Nicki Minaj Goes Solo

Right now Nicki Minaj is every rapper’s favorite rapper, but she’s just graduated from awesome guest verses on other, more famous people's songs to her very own debut single, “Massive Attack.” The video was released this week, and is kind of a snooze: Hype Williams directed it, but apparently did so without an actual Hype Williams budget, as it’s lots of too-long shots of Nicki and Kanye’s GF Amber Rose driving through the desert in a really expensive hot pink convertible (it surprised us too, but turns out that is a boring thing to put in a music video). More importantly: can Nicki Minaj get really, really famous now? We think, and hope, so! The immediate appeal is obvious, but beyond the sassy weirdo girl rapper thing is a legit, funny MC (“now I know I got the ammo / that's why I bulletproofed the Lambo / in the Middle East on a camel”) who blessedly deviates from the traditional female hip-hop role of mostly talking about how good at sex you are. As far as we can tell, “Massive Attack” isn’t a single from any impending studio release, so maybe on top of amassing lots of buzz, Nicki’s also figured out a revolutionary post-music-industry-collapse distribution model?

Cobble Hill Residents Fear the Barneys Co-op Will Make the Neighborhood Pretentious

Barneys had been scouting Brooklyn for a location for years before settling on a space on Court Street and Atlantic Avenue in Cobble Hill. Barneys executive VP Karl Hermanns calls the store "overdue." From the Daily News:

"I don't think you'll find a single woman around here to complain about Barneys coming to town," she said. "Pretty soon, I'll be able to get all my shopping done in Brooklyn. A few more nice restaurants and I might swear off the city altogether."

But the paper did find a man to complain about it.

Jon Light, 57, a musician who lives two blocks from the future Barneys, wasn't so thrilled. "It's just more of the Manhattanization of downtown," he said.

"When I think Barneys, I think of SoHo and Chelsea and all that pretension," he added. "That's one of the things I like about living in Brooklyn, it's not pretentious."

So says the person complaining about a Barneys Co-op.

Interviewing Your Work Buddies for Fun and Profit

In this month's Avenue (it's a society magazine, move on), Vanity Fair scribe Vicky Ward is interviewed about her upcoming book, The Devil's Casino: Friendship, Betrayal, and the High Stakes Games Played Inside Lehman Brothers. In a story titled — and we did not make this up — "Vicky Victorious," writer Michael Shnayerson painstakingly explains how beautiful, competent, and talented Ward is as a writer, mother, and British person. You know what's fun about this? Shnayerson and Ward are buddies from Vanity Fair, where they're both contributing editors on the rich-people beat. Here's some of what Shnayerson has to say about his pal interview subject:

At 40 Ward is a deadly combination of perfect blonde and posh Brit, oozing charm and volubility in Cambridge-modulated tones: even the grumpiest ex-Lehmanite, one senses, would spill the beans to her.

In between tales of how Ward tracked down the story of the fall of Lehman, there are more fawning details:

Jessica Pressler

Naturally, Pressler went blond for the shoot.Photo: Avenue, Patrick McMullan

Ward is whip-smart, keenly ambitious, blithely self-promoting and simply unsquashable. Slam a door in her face and she'll go around the back.

"What can you say about Vicky that she hasn't already said about herself?" says Vanity Fair Editor in Chief Graydon Carter. "As a reporter, she's nothing if not dogged. And as a colleague, she can inspire feelings of amazement, exasperation, and compassion, all in equal measure." ...

One night, Ward went to the opening of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express. She greeted a girl she'd known at Cambridge who introduced her to her new employers, the Webbers. Standing beside the Webbers, Ward realized, was Prince Edward. Only days before, a fire had broke out at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family had stayed mum on its cause and who would pay for the damage. In a twinkling, Ward was chatting up the Prince and getting his comments on the fire, a coup that Ward's editors played as front-page news.

We had no idea you could do this! Get paid money to interview your work buddies and make them sound great! We're going to start doing this. Right now!

At, um, 29, Jessica Pressler is a deadly combination of expensively highlighted auburn hair and faint middle-class Massachusetts accent, firing out wisdom and one-liners like she had a chili omelette for breakfast: Even the most curmudgeonly high dudgeon megabank spokesperson, one senses, would spill the beans to her ...

Pressler is public-school smart at the very least, increasingly beaten down by work, but somehow cautiously optimistic — probably because of the booze. Also, she's unsquishable, we think, but we've never made an attempt. Slam a door in her face and she'll open it again, invite you to walk through it, and then slam it in your face and go, "I can't believe you fell for that. Again."

"Jessica keeps a clean desk and rarely orders smelly food for lunch," says nymag.com's Lane Brown, who sits sort of near us. "One time she bought us all tequila shots at an office party."

One time, Hank Paulson used the phrase "make it work" twice in an interview about financial regulation. So Pressler had the brilliant idea of calling Tim Gunn, who coined that exact phrase on Project Runway. "I love it," Gunn said. "'Make it work' is the perfect phrase for him to use in his situation. It says 'you're not getting any extra resources. You're not getting any special treatment, you're not getting any more funds. Be creative with what you have and make it work.'" But then Pressler called a Treasury spokeswoman, who said that actually Hank "is not watching a lot of TV these days," so he wasn't really quoting the show. Anyway, that was a thing that happened one time.

Hmm. Maybe we just don't have the knack for this.

Modern Family Did Its iPad Shilling for Free

According to Modern Family creator Christopher Lloyd, the iPad placement in last night's episode was not paid for by Apple, but just something the writers felt like doing. He tells the Hollywood Reporter:

"In fact, there was no product placement. This was widely assumed, and everybody was wrong. We wanted to do a show about Phil getting very excited about a new product and it seemed the perfect one to use, since it was debuting [April 1]. We approached Apple about getting their cooperation (using the product, for example, and they are notoriously secretive about their products prior to their being launched) and they agreed and gave us a few other small concessions. But there were no stipulations as with normal product placement, i.e. we give you X dollars and you have to feature our product such-and-such a way and say such-and-such nice things about it. We are not angels — we have made those agreements with other companies. But that was not the deal with Apple. It was all story-driven."

Sounds to us like Christopher Lloyd just really wanted a free iPad.

Park Slope Woman’s Bourgeois Lawsuit Takes a Dark Turn

Disease vector?

We giggled a little at the opening paragraph of a story in this morning's Post:

A Park Slope woman is suing Williams-Sonoma for $2 million, claiming one of the high-end homeware company's serving trays broke in her hand, slicing off the end of her left ring finger.

Oh, a Park Slope lawsuit, we said to ourselves. Against Williams-Sonoma. In which the victim is a ring finger! How silly! How bourgeois! How Brooklyn!

Then we read on.

In her Brooklyn federal lawsuit, teacher Laurie Maher-Samra claims there were no warnings against heating the Deruta Simple Small Oval Platter, which she put in her oven to melt the cheese on her nachos.

At this we felt slightly different. Nachos. Not so yuppie-ish, really, maybe. And then! The story got positively Gothic.

Doctors tried to reattach the digit, but her finger became gangrenous and had to be removed, according to her lawyer.

GANGRENE. We thought people stopped getting that after the Revolutionary War! Give this woman her $2 million! And they should maybe give us $2 million, too, because we may never laugh at a lawsuit against a household product again.

What Other Sequel-Naming Techniques Could Tyler Perry Have Used for Why Did I Get Married Too?

In theaters tomorrow is Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too?, the sequel to his 2007 relationship drama Why Did I Get Married? And while we haven’t yet seen it, we’re already deeply appreciative of it. Why? It’s the name. Perry wisely avoided the pedestrian sequel-naming technique of slapping a “2” onto the original, going with the far more elegant “too.” Read it to yourself; it’s just right, isn’t it? In tribute to the title, we ran through a few other prominent sequel-naming possibilities Perry wisely avoided for Why Did I Get Married Too?

Roman Numerals, e.g., Trancers II, Halloween II
An obvious no-go: Yes, roman numerals are classier, but the title would read exactly the same out loud, thereby make people wonder why the producers actively avoided the more sensible “too” spelling.

Tweaking the Name to Suggest an Increase in Intensity, e.g., Die Hard With a Vengeance
Why Did I Marry My Ass Off? Why Did I Get Even More Married? The trailer does make the movie look insane. But it's probably better to lull the viewers into a false sense of security with a calm title, thereby making the nuttiness more effective.

Adding a Subtitle, e.g., Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
So clunky! It’s the most common sequel-naming technique, but the original title is just too long for a subtitle to work. To wit: Why Did I Get Married: The Drama Continues, Why Did I Get Married: Seriously, Why? Yeah, no good.

Adding Words That Clearly Indicate Previously Introduced Characters Have Returned, e.g., Batman Returns, Dennis the Menace Strikes Again
Why Did I Get Married Asks Again? Too threatening. The question, and its implication of major whole-life-impacting screw-ups, is scary enough on its own.

Adding a Location, e.g., Bad News Bears Go to Japan, Ernest Goes to School
The movie is set in the Bahamas. But naming it Why Did I Get Married Goes to the Bahamas would insinuate that the four couples at the center of the drama are part of a crew they’ve named “Why Did I get Married,” which is not the case.

Abbreviations, e.g., D2: The Mighty Ducks, D3: The Mighty Ducks, TMNT
WDIGM: 2. Ugh.

Adding a "Vs.", e.g., Freddy vs. Jason, Alien vs. Predator
Marriage vs. Divorce? That’s what this movie’s about, right? Kind of makes it sound like a super-boring, super-depressing town hall–style debate, though.

A Completely Different Name, e.g., Army of Darkness, Clear and Present Danger
Generally a classy call. But Tyler Perry makes so many same-y looking movies that viewers would assume it was any other Tyler Perry movie, thereby losing the marketing pull inherent in the specific association with the successful original.

Yeah, Why Did I Get Married Too? is indisputably the right call. The lesson here? Always do what Teen Wolf did.

Interview Beats Every Other Fashion Magazine to the iPad

Interview's iPad version will come out on April 3, the very day the iPad itself comes out. This makes them the first fashion magazine to go Pad, beating out Condé Nast titles Vogue and W, which should soon enough spawn Pad-ready versions of themselves. But it makes sense, because the people who subscribe to Interview are probably the same people who got up early to order a Pad whatever day it went on sale.

The next issue of Interview doesn't come out until April 12, so the special people with iPads get to see it more than a week early. And the iPad Interview is an audiovisual package, including 330 screens of images and a video by Bruce Weber. The issue includes a story on Ke$ha, and the Jersey Shore spread Terry Richardson shot a little while ago. Just imagine, enjoying a nice iced soy latte at Mudspot this spring with your iPad, casually iFlipping through the latest Interview before anyone else, marveling at the Jersey Shore male's remarkable and disturbing physique. Massive Midwestern Poop Bubbles Deflate ‘Like Raisins in the Sun’

The massive poop bubbles that have been plaguing residents of Indiana were manually deflated today, "emitting a pungent stench that wafted across fields on a warm spring breeze," reports The Wall Street Journal. For the paper, which documented the growth of the bubbles — which were were inflated with gas from 21 million gallons of decomposing cow manure — in loving detail last week, their disappearance seems bittersweet: "As they deflated Thursday," writer Lauren Etter observes, "the bubbles wrinkled like raisins in the sun." The locals were slightly less lyrical: "I'll be tickled to death when the bubbles are gone," said one.

The Jesse James Nazi Story That Keeps On Nazi Giving

Listen.  Jesse James is probably not a Nazi.  Even his mistress, Michelle “NaziBombshell” McGee, is probably not a Nazi.  She’s definitely closer to being a Nazi than Jesse James is, but that’s not what I’m going to get into here.  What I’m going to get into is Jesse James’ recent explanation for the picture of him wearing an S.S. hat and sieg-heil-ing.

The hat was a “gag gift” to Jesse from his Jewish godfather, attorney Joe Yanny told CNN. As further evidence his client is no neo-Nazi, he added that Jesse spent a month in an Israeli kibbutz.

I say this with no irony:  Oy.

Here’s the thing.  I get Nazi jokes.  I really do.  If somebody gave me a Nazi hat, I would probably put it on and sieg a hearty heil.  But what I would not do at the same time as that is be famous and take a picture of it.  In the event that I did, however, I would certainly not try to explain it away with a “some of my best friends are Jews who give me Nazi hats” explanation.  And furthermore I would not add that I spent a month in Israel on a kibbutz.  You know who else spent a month on a kibbutz?!  Hitler!  (Probably not true.)

GAMES: Jesus? Or the Parking Attendant from Ferris Bueller?

Most everyone the world over has heard about or believes in the man, the legend, Jesus Christ. Really, everyone: Sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, d*ckheads. They all adore him. They think he’s a righteous dude. But one thing we’ve never quite pinned down is what Jesus looked like. A few things are understood: He was probably white, had a beard, tons of abs… but really, his actual face is still a mystery.

Well, the History Channel has taken it upon themselves to figure out what Jesus looked like in their upcoming Easter Special The Real Face of Jesus, airing April 3 at 8 PM ET. Using much more outdated 3-D technology than what you probably saw in Avatar, and the controversial Shroud of Turin, scientists have painted a picture of the real Jesus. And wanna know what?

Jesus looked a heck of a lot like the Parking Attendant from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. So much so that we decided to put this little game for you together. For each photo, you have to guess… Is it the Real Jesus? Or Ferris Bueller Parking Attendant? Rinse your eyes out with some water from the Dead Sea and get your paper and pencils ready… here we go:

Tested: The $1,000 3-D Facial at Paul Labrecque

Paul Labrecque recently added a new 3-D Facial to his spa menu, and it costs $1,000. We stopped by recently to give it a test run, and to answer: Is this facial worth more money than our rent? And, if so, will it at least provide us with a brand-new face?

The 90-minute treatment consists of three parts. You begin with a round of microdermabrasion to exfoliate. Then the skin is ready for its first laser treatment, Laser Genesis, which feels like warm beams of pulsating light and is meant to tackle fine wrinkles, large pores, and uneven skin texture. The most painful part is the finale, which calls for the Laser Titan, a laser meant to tighten skin. Even though the Titan's heat had to be adjusted numerous times, our face still felt like it was being scorched by a branding iron. According to Labrecque's laser specialist Carmen Tosado, the extreme heat “bruises” the collagen in skin, which promotes new growth, and in about two months you start to notice firmer skin as the fresh collagen develops.

So, is the mini-torture session worth it? Technically, $1,000 is a deal for the treatment. À la carte, a regular Laser Titan session at Labrecque is $1,100, while Genesis and microdermabrasion treatments go for $425 and $150 at the salon, respectively. And while we didn’t get a new face, skin definitely looked more radiant and our fine laugh lines were slightly diminished, though it's worth mentioning that less expensive facials with other top aestheticians have achieved the same results. To be fair, Tosado did say it takes two months to see a change, so we’ll be patient. She also recommended multiple treatments. Until then, we’ll consider spending a grand on something useful, like Louboutins. At least we can count on those to be far less painful than the Titan.

If You’re An Obscure Celebrity, You Better Not Die Today

Just a quick piece of advice to the former child stars, obscure character actors, and long-forgotten nuggets of nostalgia floating around in the obscure-celebrity ether: DO NOT DIE TODAY.

If you die today, April 1st of 2010 A.D., the internet will never frickin’ believe you, and any family member of yours or news outlet that attempts to break the tragic news of your death will only be mocked by bloggers who aren’t gullible enough to fall for that crap. Even if you have video of the celebrity hooked up to a flatlined heart monitor next to a grieving widow holding up today’s New York Times cover, we’re not even gonna give it one second of thought until April 2nd.

So if you’re planning to OD, or suffocate while asphyxiating yourself, or just die in some other spastic or unbelievable fashion, even though I know that’s your job, PLEASE wait til tomorrow to make it happen, or at least to let the news out. If you die today, it’s only gonna make things awkward for both of us tomorrow when your grieving mother finds our April 1st post called “FAAAAKE: Nice try, Kimmy Gibbler, but we ain’t fallin’ for that crap!”

Deal? Deal.

We Thought Scott Schuman Understood the Internet Better

Today's Times article about the Sartorialist Scott Schuman having a problem with a Sartorialist parody blog is interesting, but not because of the phenomenon of the Sartorialist parody blog, of which there are many. (And for the record, the cat version called the Catorialist, which we noted a little while ago, is the best.) But it's interesting because we get to see how the Sartorialist's Internet fame has changed him.

“It just didn’t sit right with me,” Schuman said of one such parody blog called the Fake Sartorialist. It's run by Eduardo Cachucho, and consists of Schuman's images ripped directly from his blog, but Photoshopped to look more ridiculous. It's a cute idea, ha-ha funny most of the time. But Schuman went out of his way to write Cachucho and ask him to stop even though Cachucho gets barely a fraction of the traffic Schuman does.

Mr. Schuman said his site receives about 250,000 hits each day; Mr. Cachucho said his gets about 50. But Mr. Schuman said he was still bothered by the unflattering depiction of his subjects. “Now everyone feels the Internet is a free-for-all,” he said.

Though the legal rules with altered photos like Cachucho's are hazy, Schuman can invoke copyright protection to get him to stop. Cachucho has agreed not to rip any of Schuman's photos anymore and only create original content. But Schuman, being a street-style blogging pioneer who popularized the genre, thereby helping turn Fashion Week into a spectacle that is now so much more meaningful than it once was, should know that the Internet, at its core, is a free-for-all! Has he, as an Internet fashion superstar, lost his way? Next thing we know he'll only do print work.

Whitney Port Has New Rep and It’s Not Kelly Cutrone

Whitney on March 25.

Whitney may "work" at People's Revolution on The City, and they have in turn worked for her legitimately as producers of her fashion show. But they have not, and do not, represent her day-to-day, and will not as she moves forward in her enchanted life (Alison Brod will take on that lovely task). As we've seen in Kell on Earth, there's enough drama in that office without having to clarify, oh, why Whitney likes swishy pants that turn five different colors depending on the light. The 50 Most Depressed Easter Bunnies

On Sunday, Christian families will gather all over the world to celebrate Easter, the day when Jesus Christ was brought back from the dead. To celebrate, people paint eggs in Martha Stewart inspired pastels, go to church, and eat styrofoam sugar renderings of baby chickens.

But perhaps the most symbolic entity Easter has to offer, other than a relaxed J-man, is a soft and cuddly Easter Bunny. It’s the one day a year people actually give a care about rabbits. But you know? We secretly think the rabbits might not be too super-psyched about it. Laying eggs? Getting their ears pulled by thousands of small children, their fingers stained neon, their eyes swirling from chocolate sugar highs? “No thank you.” — All rabbits. Which is why we’ve compiled this list of The 50 Most Depressed Easter Bunnies. Despite what you are about to see, we’d like to wish you a very Happy Easter!

Surprise!!! Native Americans Are Offended By Heidi And Spencer’s New Native American Names.

Apparently, Heidi and Spencer Pratt announced yesterday that they are adopting Native American Names in an attempt to be more spiritual.  Heidi is now White Wolf and Spencer is now Running Bear.

Sure.

Let me first explain why this is not controversial.  Everybody is in agreement this is stupid.  There is no controversy.  We’re all on the same page. This is what Heidi and Spencer do.  They do something idiotic and then we all talk about it.  And that’s fine.  They’re making a good living off of it and nobody gets physically harmed.

I only explain that so that I can say this:  Hey Native American spokespeople, there is no need to make a statement about this.  We’re already on your side; we’re already all generally offended by Heidi and Spencer.  Making a statement cannot possibly benefit you because — Oh, what’s that?  You already had a representative from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe make a statement?  To TMZ?  Oh boy.  Well let’s read what you had to say:

“Continued stereotyping such as this by people ignorant of our traditional ways is very disrespectful and only hurts our efforts to curtail these stereotypes.”

Oh… Actually, that’s pretty good; very well stated.  I stand corrected.  Wait.  You have one more thing to say?

“[We're espeicially upset because] the names they have given themselves are legitimate names in our tribe.”

NOOOOOOOOOO!  You messed UP!!!!  Now we’re all just thinking about how it’s a at least a little funny that those are legitimate names.  And you also gave Heidi and Spencer credit for being accurate.   You have to listen to me when I talk to you about public relations.

(By Way Of TMZ.)

Even Bruce Willis Gets Regular-Person-Drunk Sometimes

You know when you’re like…pretty drunk;  you’re okay, and you can think straight in your own head, but you’ve basically lost the ability to speak normally with any confidence?  Well that happened to Bruce Willis at a Hornets/Lakers game.

Ah, man, Bruce.  We’ve all been there.  Fortunately for us, we don’t have to talk to a sports journalist about Bruce Willis movies when that happens.  Being a celebrity looks really hard.

American SuicIdol: The Notes They Failed to Hit

American Idol has been, by all accounts, PAINFULLY TERRIBLE this season. Even the singers we like — namely Siobhan Magnus — have been bombing as of recently, and we wonder: “How did these people make it into the Top 10?” This week, one of the few singers we thought had real potential, Didi Benami, was sent packing, while other much less talented people, like Katie Whateverhernameis, continue to embarrass themselves week after week. Either this season is some sort of ploy to get people to watch the all new American X Factor, or the country has run out of people with good voices.

Because this season is just so, so inexplicably terrible, BWE.tv is proud to announce a new weekly feature called American SuicIdol, where we string together the worst notes from each singer in a glorious cacophony of epic proportions that may or may not make you want to off yourselves entirely. Those of you who have so boldly proclaimed that you are ditching this season can thank us for saving you two hours of your life by suffering through the following 43 seconds.

Here’s A Terrible Tiger Woods Condom Mannequin

There’s no better way to promote safe sex than with a condom mannequin made up to look like Tiger Woods, if Tiger Woods was one of those future people from South Park and wore Payne Stewart’s wardrobe with a reverse Nike logo and everything about it was terrible:
