Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 31 Mar 2010 | 8:38 am Censors pass male smooch scene and morphed nude shot in Pankh
While the fate of the kissing scene between Rahul Bose and Arjun Mathur in Onir's film Omar hangs in balance, Bengali filmmaker Sudipto
Chattopadhyaya's gay kiss in Pankh featuring Maradona Rebello and Amit Purohit has
been passed by the censors, untouched.
This would be the first time Hindi audiences will see two men kissing on screen. Madhur Bhandarkar had earlier deleted a male kiss featuring Samir Soni before submitting
his film Fashion to the censors.
Not only that, a sequence where Maradona Rebello goes fully naked before his screen-mother Lilette Dubey has also been passed by the lately-liberalized censor board, albeit with the 19-year old actor's butt blurred.
The director Sudipto Chattopadhyaya has no quibble with Vinayak Azad Regional Officer of the censor board.
Says Sudipto emphatically, "In fact Vinayak Azad has been very supportive. Its individual members of the jury who raised questions about the language and content. Some words from the dialogues had to be beeped out. One lady in Burqa behaved as though the moral health of the nation would be destroyed by the deeds of my characters. Such hypocrisy has to stop."
Director Sudipto Chattopadhyaya is extremely miffed at the lurid bent given to Pankh. "The so-called male kissing sequence is actually a molestation scene. The young shocked disgusted hero Maradona is force-kissed by a drunken friend who assumes Maradona is gay. The sequence is not titillating or erotic but filled with Maradona's revulsion. But because the kiss came to light after Article 377 was repealed it was conveniently misconstrued."
The nude sequence will qualify as the boldest ever in an Indian film. It comes at a time when the boy-hero must prove to his domineering mother that he is, after all, a man.
Says the director, "I've never spoken about this sequence before because the content is bound to be projected out of context. It's actually the climactic moment when the hero Jerry (Maradona Rebello) can no longer bear with his mother's taunts about his manhood. Jerry takes off his trousers to show his mother that he has a d...k like any man. It's shocking moment. We shot Maradona from the back. But he was fully nude in front of Lilette Dubey."
The censorial boldness notwithstanding one wonders how Indian audiences would react to a film that subverts the traditional mother-child relationship and takes it kicking
and screaming into the zone of sexual politics.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 31 Mar 2010 | 7:33 am Vidya Balan highlights Indian cinema's global impact at WhartonBollywood actress Vidya Balan, who was recently invited to the Wharton School in Pennsylvania to be part of the 14th Wharton India Economic Forum, showcased the high points of Indian cinema there.Source: Entertainment News | 31 Mar 2010 | 7:06 am I am supporting Mumbai Indians: Sanjay DuttActor Sanjay Dutt, who featured on the "Extraaa Innings T20" show on MAX, says he is pitching for the Mumbai Indians team in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament.Source: Entertainment News | 31 Mar 2010 | 6:59 am Ranbir Kapoor unplugged!Barely two-and-a-half years in the industry and the guy has proved himself as a true winner. The tall, dark and handsome hunk from American series 'Heroes', Sendhil Ramamurthy, is making heads turn even before the first look of Gurinder Chadha's It's A Wonderful Afterlife has been revealed in India.
The LA-based actor, who was recently cast as a CIA agent in the noted US spy drama Covert Affairs opposite Piper Perabo, was approached by Chadha in December 2008 to meet for the role of Raj, opposite British-Indian debutant, Goldy Notay, who plays Roopie.
"Sendhil flew to London and we had lunch," informs Chadha. "He said he was determined to be in one of my films and happily he was perfect for the role; a good-looking out of towner who has not been in touch with Roopie and her family for a while. Sendhil was great on set, extremely disciplined and conscientious, and he made many a female heart flutter when he did a take - and some guys too!" she laughs.
Remarks Sendhil, "I had some time off between Season 3 and 4 of 'Heroes' and that's exactly when Gurinder was shooting for Afterlife. She's very good with her actors and the film gave me the opportunity of doing something light and different from Suresh in 'Heroes'."
Ramamurthy will attend the London premiere of It's A Wonderful Life on April 12, accompanied by his British wife and actress, Olga Sosnowska. The keenly awaited comedy, also starring Shabana Azmi, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Sally Hawkins in key roles, releases in the UK on April 21 and in India and Pakistan on May 7. It is an Indian Films and Bend It Films presentation in association with Studio 18.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 31 Mar 2010 | 5:55 am Blog: Amitabh Bachchan and politics of celebrity
Amitabh Bachchan is caught in a political controversy yet again. The 67-year old-actor finds himself in the middle of a row over his presence at government functions in Mumbai and Pune.
While no official reason has been given, Bachchan's presence at a government function in Mumbai last week has raised hackles in the Congress party, ostensibly because of Bachchan's bitter relationship with the Gandhi family.
Later the same week, his son Abhishek's posters were removed from an Earth Day function for which he had earlier been declared ambassador, organised by the Congress-run Delhi state government.
On Monday, the Congress party criticised Bachchan for being a brand ambassador for the state of Gujarat, whose chief minister has not been able to shake off the stigma of the infamous 2002 riots.
And Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan avoided the star at a Marathi convention, choosing instead to attend a day before Bachchan's arrival.
"Am I hallucinating, or is there a pattern in all this!!!??" Bachchan wrote on his blog on Saturday.
Those who have followed Bachchan, or for that matter, the Gandhis closely may know of the bitter rift between the two once close families.
So for the Congress to shun the star seems to follow naturally. This is also not the first political party with which Bachchan has clashed.
Whether it was his campaign for the Uttar Pradesh government, his relationship with Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray or the MNS's violent reaction to his statements, the star has always had an uneasy relationship with the political establishment of the country.
Bachchan's closeness to former Congress ally Amar Singh and now to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is also a matter of much conjecture within political circles.
But many are questioning whether it is valid for a political party to question an individual's choice of friends, or whether Bachchan himself has shifted loyalties once too often.
What do you think? Has the Congress gone too far in "banning" Amitabh Bachchan and his family?

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 31 Mar 2010 | 4:14 am Jacqueline does Dharmendra, Mithunda and Sridevi's dance steps in JKSAH
By now its common knowledge that the beautiful Jacqueline Fernandez plays a Girl who descends on Earth from Venus in Milap Zaveri's directorial debut Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai (JKSAH). However, what many don't know, is the fact that despite coming from another planet, Jackie's character Tara would be seen doing some famous Bollywood dance moves in this rom-com.
Speaking about the same, director Milap Zaveri says, "The scene you are talking about happens when Jacqueline's character Tara is in Riteish's house and her foot accidentally hits the T.V. remote thereby turning on the T.V. Since she plays a girl from Venus, she is completely zapped by the television set. She keeps changing channels and comes across shots of Dharmendraji dancing to 'Main Jat Yamla Pagla Deewana', Mithunda dancing to 'I Am A Disco Dancer' and Srideviji doing her Nagina dance number. Out of curiosity she begins to ape whatever she sees on television and ends up dancing like Dharamji, Mithunda and Sridevi. She gets so excited seeing the T.V. set that it becomes her favorite discovery. All of us had a blast shooting for this scene and I am sure the audiences too will love to see Jackie doing dance steps of some of Bollywood's popular stars."
Indeed it'll be fun to see Jacqueline ape some of the biggest Bollywood superstars.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 31 Mar 2010 | 4:06 am Anees Bazmee signs Irrfan Khan, Suniel Shetty and Celina Jaitley for Thank You

The very utterance of Abhay Deol brings to your minds synonyms like 'Mr. Cool' 'Dude', 'Suave' etc⦠to name a few. Well, there is one more 'tag' that's attached now to his name, and that is 'Mr. Caring'. And vouching for this will be none other than the bears all over.
Even though the bears are synonymous and famous for their hugs and their hair (for medicinal purposes), the flip side of the coin is the tremendous pressures that these hapless animals are subjected to. That's exactly the point that Abhay wants to make. As a part 'Wildlife S.O.S', an NGO that works towards the animals' welfare, Abhay strongly wants the bears that are subjected to dance on the streets for the sake of earning money to be called off, since it involves lots of cruelty. As a part of his 'duty' as the brand ambassador for the same, Abhay has taken the cause to the national level and wants to request everyone to pay that extra attention towards these innocent creatures.
Point taken, Mr. Deol!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 30 Mar 2010 | 5:24 am "I can't say whether Maria would be laughing it all away" - Dia Mirza
In a career spanning close to a decade, Dia Mirza has acted in close to three dozen films. There may have been misses and hits but she has continued to stay afloat and make her presence felt in the industry. Now that she can be seen on screen in a solo-heroine act in Hum Tum Aur Ghost, she is enjoying all the good words coming her way. However, she also continues to battle rumours about her alleged relationship with Arshad Warsi. Coming up with a rather brave stance, she sets the record straight about the rumours floating round the town and announces loud and clear that such link up stories only make for idle gossips and should be best left ignored.
In 'Bollywood Today', before the release of every film, there are link up stories that start making the rounds. Seems this time around, the flavour of the season is Arshad and you...
(Smiles) That's only because there is a herd mentality when it comes to publicity and marketing of the film. People pick up what they wish to write about but the sad part is that in this process, there are so many other elements that get sidelined. While we keep going on and out about a possible relationship between the lead couple, there are so many other good aspects of a film that we do not talk out. There is so much good work that has gone into filming a scene, the VFX have been superb, and the art direction is phenomenal. But nahi, we only end up talking about the so-called affairs.
You appear to be hurt...
More than being hurt, it is amusing. (Laughs) Arrey, maine toh kitni baar kaha hai that if you want to link me up then please do that but then pick up someone who is single. Kam se kam wahan par there would be a possibility of something happening later in the day. Then you can also come back and say that 'humnein toh pehle hi bola that ki tum donon ki beech mein kuch hai'. What scope do you have when you pick up a married guy; then there is no chance in hell.
I guess Maria (Arshad's wife) may be laughing away all the insinuations as well. After all she must have been hearing such gossips for ages now.
I can't say whether Maria would be laughing it all away; after all every relationship has its own complexities. There are so many things that can affect a relationship. See, when you are a couple, it is just not about you and me. There are parents, extended families etc. etc. I can give you my own example. When my uncles and aunties read something about me in papers or magazines, they do ask me ki kya isme kahin koyi sachchai toh nahi. When you are faced with such a question, it does bother you eventually. Suddenly you find yourself in a place where you have to justify your act, your relationships etc.

On Saturday, Minissha was too weak to travel to Pune for promotion. But she was happy about the fact that Well Done Abba was getting her glowing reviews. "For a girl who's come from the outside into the film industry it feels good to have bagged a Shyam Benegal film. I'm proud of girls like Kangna Ranaut who have made it without any help from godfathers. When I was called by Mr. Benegal, I walked into his office wearing high heels and a chic summer dress. Mr. Benegal said he wanted me to play a semi-rural Hyderabadi girl. I was like, do I look rural or Hyderabadi from any angle, Sir?"
The scene seems like an instant replay of what transpired between Shyam Benegal and his favourite actress Shabana Azmi when 35 years ago she had walked into his office to audition for the rural Hyderabadi girl's role in Ankur carrying pouty supposedly glamorous portfolio pictures.
Laughs Minissha, "Yes there seems to be a karmic connection with Shabana. I've just done a film where I play a Hyderabadi girl like Shabana had done in Ankur. But before that I did Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd where I actually got to work with THE Shabana Azmi. And now I'm doing a film called-hold your breath-Hum Tum Aur Shabana where I actually get to play a girl called Shabana."
She's all praise for her co-stars whether it's Abhay Deol or Sammir Dattani.
Chuckles Minissha, "Abhay did a very clever thing when he had to perform the tango with me in Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. He declared he was an awful dancer at the start. We soon realized that wasn't true. While I struggled to get the movements right with my two left feet, Abhay was terrific. I've been lucky with my co-stars. I have had to work with anyone whom I didn't get along with. Sammir Dattani and I've done two films together. Look at how he has come into his own in Well Done Abba."
Minissha has been cast as the sweet girl next door being wooed by Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade in Sagar Ballary's film Hum Tum Aur Shabana.
Says Minissha, "That is the only film I'm doing right now. I realized while doing Well Done Abba that the pleasure of doing a substantial meaningful role with actors like Boman Irani is unmatchable. I'm here to be an actress. And now I've decided I won't get tempted to sign any old role that comes my way."
Minissha considers Bachna Ae Haseeno a turning- point in her career. "It put me in a different bracket. When I started my career with Yahaan, I was raw but I got a kind of break that few newcomers get. Bachna Ae Haseeno put me many steps ahead."
She admits she has made some mistakes; though wearing a bikini in Sanjay Gadhvi's Kidnap was not one of them. "It was a stage in my growth as an actor. I've gone from bikini to a burqa milieu in Well Done Abba and I think I haven't done too badly for myself."
She resents the misconstrued controversies that were created in her career. "It was reported that I backed out of a film with Ram Vilas Paswan's son. They made such a hue and cry over it when it wasn't true. I guess one lives and learns. There are filmmakers like Shyam Benegal in the same industry as the proposal makers."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 30 Mar 2010 | 4:00 am Ricky Martin is proud to be a gayIn a statement on his Web site, Martin says: 'I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. The prolific Priyadarshan has had more than his share of title problems with his new Ajay Devgn-Akshaye Khanna-Bipasha Basu starrer. A hard-hitting film about love across caste barriers and honour killing set in Bihar, Priyan wanted to call it Ishqana. But Ishqiya came along and Priyan chose Garam Hawa.
But now that title too had to be hastily abandoned and Priyan has called his film Aakrosh.
Explains the exhausted director, "We wanted to call it Garam Hawa as homage to M.S. Sathyu's classic film of that name. But then Mr. Sathyu got very upset. We received a letter from him questioning our right to use his title. We immediately abandoned Garam Hawa. In order to use Aakrosh as the title, we got the original Aakrosh's director Govind Nihalani's permission. He was very generous about it."
Of late, Priyan has been working over-time. "I need a break. I've four films this year. Aakrosh and Khatta Meetha are almost complete. Then I'm going into a film about the loves and lusts of the youth for which I want to cast newcomers along with Prateik Babbar. I'm starting this film in July. Finally, I want to make my realistic no-frills film on AIDS at the end of this year with Aamir Khan in the lead. I'll go to him only when my script is ready."
Priyan says he needs a star like Aamir to have a large receptive audience for the AIDS film. "I'm more successfully known for my comedies in the North. However, even if Aamir declines, I'll still go ahead with the AIDS film."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 30 Mar 2010 | 3:43 am Asin to star opposite Salman Khan in Ready
It's confirmed. Asin it is, as Salman Khan's leading lady in Anees Bazmee's remake of the Telugu hit Ready.
And it was never Deepika Padukone, as reported in a section of the press. "Asin plays the lead. I wonder where Deepika's name came from!," says director Bazmee currently preparing for a month-long shooting of his new film Thank You in Canada.
Anees also denies the story that Salman asked him to sign Asin. "The role requires a 'chulbuli', vivacious, talkative and agile girl. Asin was the natural choice."
Asin had played a similar role in Ghajini. That's the role that convinced Anees that Asin was the right choice for Ready.
In fact Genelia D'Souza, the first choice for all 'chulbuli' vivacious-girl parts, was working with Anees Bazmee in yet another remake Its My Life (original Telugu film Bommarillu). Genelia was Anees natural choice.
Having failed to play something different in London Dreams, Asin is back to doing the Ghajini act again viva la vivacious!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 30 Mar 2010 | 3:38 am I have never taken my career seriously: Moushumi ChatterjeeThe charming Moushumi Chatterjee returns to celluloid after several years in "The Japanese Wife" and is as self-effacing as ever, calling herself a "very lazy actor" who never took her career seriously and doesn't want to work hard.Source: Entertainment News | 30 Mar 2010 | 2:37 am
