If there is one man in Bollywood who is on a roll, then, it has to be him. We are indeed talking about the one and only Akshay Kumar. After having being chosen as the brand ambassador for a million products, Akki is all set to lend his 'Phase Value', this time round to the electronics major LG.
Bollywood Hungama's confirmed sources said, "Akki was always an immediate choice for the said brand, after Abhishek Bachchan." Rumors have it that Abhi's contract was not renewed because he insisted on having his better half Aishwarya Rai as a part of the deal, which LG officials were not too forthcoming about. That's the reason they chose Akshay over Abhishek."
One may recall that, just a few days back, LG had signed up John Abraham, Abhay Deol and Genelia as their Brand Ambassadors for their mobile range. With Akshay now at the helm of things, LG definitely seems to be high on Bollywood power.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 Feb 2010 | 3:45 am Farhan ended up feeling depressed after Karthik...It was a challenge pulling off the drastic personality change for Farhan Akhtar . The cat is out of the bag. Ekta Kapoor and her director Milan Luthria were looking for a neo-Helen for the longest time. The original plan of discovering a completely untried dancer failed as time was running out. They've finally zeroed in on Gauhar Khan who has been secretly jiving away to Helen's most popular cabaret 'Piya Tu Ab To Aaja' for Luthria's Once Upon A Time In Mumbai.
Raju Khan has been brought to do the choreography for what's touted as the most expensive cabaret ever shot in Bollywood.
Gauhar danced to the beats of 'Piya Tu Ab To Aaja' so hard last week that a shard of shattered glass wounded her leg.
The director and her excited producer intend to unveil their new-age Helen and the prized recreation of the smoldering cabaret number from the 1970s at an elaborate press conference later this month.
But the behind-the-scenes stress and arguments to get this cabaret item in place are even more interesting than the cabaret itself.
Apparently, the composer Pritam Chakraborty refused to do a straight re-mix of 'Piya Tu Ab To Aaja'. There were heated arguments between the composer and the film's producer and director over the issue. Finally, Pritam got his way and recorded a totally new version of the song.
Says Pritam, "I really see no point in doing a straight-off remix especially when it's an R. D. Burman track. That means the original is still fresh in the listeners' mind. Why should I tamper with an evergreen? So what I've done for Milan's cabaret is to incorporate just a bit of R.D.'s 'Piya Tu Ab To Aaja' from Caravan and 'Duniya Mein Logon Ko' from Apna Desh. The rest of the song is my original composition."
Apparently, when Gauhar Khan heard the song she flipped out. Laughs Pritam, "Yes they all loved the song. But I won't do a re-mix of an R. D. Burman or any other composition."
Rohan Sippy's Abhishek Bachchan-featured drug-busting Goan drama has a hitch. Composer Pritam Chakraborty is aghast to hear that Rohan Sippy has titled his film Dum Maro Dum and that the makers would like him to do a remix of the number.
Pritam vigorously says, "Like I said I don't do remixes, ever. And certainly not re-mixes of R.D. Burman compositions. R.D. has taken his songs as far as they can go. There's nothing more that I or anyone else can do to an R.D. Burman track. So I'll just use his famous opening riff from 'Dum Maro Dum'. The rest of the composition will be mine. In any case this will be an instrumental piece for the credit titles in Dum Maro Dum."
In fact, Pritam didn't even know Sippy's film was titled Dum Maro Dum. Apparently, the other title being seriously considered was Subah Ko Karo Salaam. Says Pritam, "Even that would've been a problem to compose since R.D. Burman had done a fabulous job of those words Subah Ko Karo Salaam in a TV serial of that title."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 Feb 2010 | 2:54 am Fashionable Kareena Kapoor rocks B-town - Oneindia

Apoorva Lakhia is all geared up to release his first production HIDE & SEEK, directed by his erstwhile assistant Shawn Arranha. Having assisted Apoorva right from the days when even he was an assistant, Shawn has learnt the art of narrating stories well.
However, Apoorva has worked with several top notch names to date, but Shawn and Apoorva decided to cast relative newcomers in HIDE & SEEK. What prompted them to cast relative newcomers this time? "Two reasons. One, had we cast well-known actors, the audience would've guessed the killer at the very outset. With new faces, you keep guessing till the very end," Apoorva states. Second reason? "It would've taken a long time to procure the combination dates of established names. Hence, the new cast," Shawn adds.
While Shawn hasn't decided on his next venture, Apoorva is ready to direct Ashtavinayak's new venture, which will star Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Suniel Shetty and Nana Patekar [talks are on with him] in pivotal roles. Everyone's speculating about DON 2. Farhan Akhtar, who directed the SRK starrer DON, had announced the sequel to the film quite some time back. While Farhan got busy with his acting assignments and SRK too decided to work on RAB NE BANA DI JODI first and MY NAME IS KHAN next, one kept wondering when Farhan and SRK would start the next instalment of DON.
"DON 2 will start in October this year. We've locked the script and also the locations," Farhan and his producer-partner Ritesh Sidhwani tell me. The new DON will have two leading ladies. "Priyanka Chopra will be one of them. The second will be finalized in due course," Farhan states.
There's talk that the producers are also planning to start ROCK ON 2. "A lot of people want us to do that. Right now Abhishek [Kapoor, the director of ROCK ON] is working on another script. But if he finds a script that looks like a worthy follow up to ROCK ON, why not?" Farhan clarifies.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 22 Feb 2010 | 11:58 pm I am open for bold scenes: Shraddha - Times of India

After the farce revolving around his film My Name Is Khan, it was the actor's endorsements that caught the lime light. Not too long ago, Shah Rukh was signed on as the brand ambassador for well known innerwear brand Lux Cozy. What's more his IPL team - the KKR, were also supposed to promote the brand on field as their uniforms would carry their logo.
However, a controversy took birth over this tie up as the brand is owned by Kolkata's Todi brothers, who are accused in the infamous case of hounding Kolkata youth Rizwanur Rehman to suicide.
The latest updates now state that SRK has, cancelled his endorsement contract with Lux Cozy. The reasons behind this sudden cancellation are apparently, the brothers involvement as well as the criticism by Muslim groups and civil societies in Kolkata.
Besides, Rizwanur's mother had also requested Khan not to endorse a product owned by the Todis. The deal hence, won't be going ahead anymore.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 22 Feb 2010 | 10:51 am Viewers will enjoy Commonwealth Games in HD resolutionDoordarshan and All India Radio will shortly undergo digitalization.Source: Entertainment News | 22 Feb 2010 | 10:51 am "I've never heard of any film before where a person gets phone calls from himself" - Farhan Akhtar
It was 11.30am. London's Somerset House was burning. I mean, summer time in London is like sitting on a red hot coal. I was drinking my favourite beer along with fellow journalists who were there to attend a press conference of SRK for his film Chak De India which had its premiere at the same venue later in the evening. The lady sitting in front of me passed a comment, "You sound so much like Farhan Akhtar. Talking to you is like talking to him." It was Nasreen Munni Kabir (author, documentary film maker and producer on British television) who briefed me about Farhan for the first time. Then the rest followed. Adah Sharma, Minissha Lamba, Rahul Dev, Amrita Rao, etc. Farhan's latest release, Karthik Calling Karthik is spooky in a way. Why? Because he receives a phone call from himself. Now read this - I was supposed to call Farhan for an interview last week. The rest I'm sure you'd have got it, right? UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel picks up his phone and dials a number only to find himself on the other line....or was it truly him?
It's surprisingly spooky but the truth that many of the industry people think that I sound like Farhan Akhtar. With a film like KCK releasing, can you recall of such similar instances?
(laughs) Not that I've heard of. I haven't got anybody coming to me and telling me that I sound like someone. This is the first time I've heard from you that you sound like me (laughs).
Has the marketing now taken over the definition of success in Indian cinema?
I don't think so yaar. If you take last year for example, out of the hundreds of films released, probably three or four were successful. Some of them were from very big production houses; some were from big studios, etc. All were marketed well. But finally it was the content that the people connected to. Yes, you need to market your film to make people aware of your film but more than the quantitative marketing, what you're putting out there to create curiosity is more important.
Have you ever received a phone call in your life that changed your life, momentarily, forever?
Yes, there have been some calls I've made and I've received that have changed my life momentarily. Probably a call from Aamir Khan saying that he is doing Dil Chahta Hai was a life altering moment. The other was a call from the hospital saying that my baby was on the way (laughs).
But if that's the case Farhan, why isn't our audience ready to accept films like Rocket Singh...?
I don't know. It depends on the mood of the audiences too. Like we discussed earlier, when it comes to marketing any film, there has to be, somewhere, one central idea that people connect with. If you fail to do that, people don't want to go to the cinemas on a tentative feeling about the film. When I don't know or am not clear as to what the film is all about, why would I go and watch it. Just to put it in a very black and white way - Is it a good versus an evil film, is it somebody fighting the system, is it about love prevails over everything. But the audiences like some clarity when they see a poster or a promo.
And how much have you grown since the year 2000, since the Dil Chahta Hai days?
Honestly, and I mean this with absolute sincerity. I feel no different between what I felt at the time when I was making Dil Chahta Hai to what I feel now. If at all there is any difference, it has to be that I've got a lot more knowledge and experience in terms of making movies. Experience adds a little more edge to your skills. In terms of achievement, the one thing I feel glad about is the fact that people have been extremely supportive of the films Excel Entertainment has made and have really appreciated our work. That gives me the strength to constantly work with new talents. What's happened with Abhishek after him winning the National Award is the fact that it encourages me, Ritesh Sidhwani to go with our belief that we can constantly harbour new talent. That was something I wanted to work towards ever since our company was established. There is a long way to go and this is just the beginning.
Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 22 Feb 2010 | 10:18 am Neil Nitin Mukesh to play Priyanka's husband in Saat Khoon Maaf
While Naseeruddin Shah at 60, would be Priyanka Chopra's oldest husband in Saat Khoon Maaf (earlier entitled Ek Batta Saath), Neil Nitin Mukesh has just been signed to play her youngest husband.
Though age-wise, Neil is a few months older than Priyanka, Neil, it is reliably learnt, initially felt he would look incompatible with her.
Says a source, "Neil didn't want another situation like Aa Dekhen Zarawhere everyone commented on how incompatible Bipasha and he looked. At the same time, he's a big fan of Priyanka's work. So when he heard that his colleague Ranbir Kapoor was working with Priyanka and prepared himself to match Priyanka's maturity level (Ranbir has stubbled, lean red-eyed look in Anjaana Anjaani), Neil was game for it."
Neil's character will require a heavy physical transformation. He will apparently be unrecognizable on screen.
Says Neil from the location for Yashraj Films' Lafange Parinday, "When I heard the script, I was zapped. This was something I had to do. I play one of Priyanka's husbands, the youngest of the lot. The fact that I get to be in the same film as actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Mohanlalji was incentive enough. I read even Irrfan Khan is in the film." (However sources close to the project deny Irrfan's casting).
While all the actors playing Priyanka's husbands (and these include an unknown American actor) have been finalized , the seventh actor is yet to be finalized.
Neil starts shooting for Saat Khoon Maaf from April. "I've a somewhat crowded date diary this year. I join Abbas-Mustan from June to December for The Italian Job."
Neil, who moved to Powai to be near Yashraj Studios to avoid the daily traffic to and from South Mumbai, is wondering if he made the right move.
"The traffic on that side of town is just as bad. It's excruciating to travel even from Powai to Yashraj Studios. On Thursday, I had a day off and I invited my mom over to do up my new home the way I wanted it."
Neil, who has been a part of a joint family household all his life, says he has no time to miss his family in Powai. We have seen and heard about the mega star Salman Khan cycling on the roads of Mumbai, not bothered about the traffic or the traffic jam that gets created in the bargain. Well, this time round, Salman was at it again but all done for a cause that's closer to Salman's heart than anyone and anything else: 'Being Human'.
Yesterday saw Salman Khan leading India's first ever international cycling event, 'Mumbai Cyclothon-Tour De Mumbai'. This event was grander and had more grandeur than all the recent events put together. Many of tinsel town residents had assembled to give the event a star glow. A huge crowd lined up to see the cyclists on the ever-busy Bandra Reclamation grounds. The crowd consisted of many amateur cyclists, working professionals, children, and even housewives! There were a total of 14 professional cycling teams competing with each other. Each world standard team was present along with the Indian national cycling team. Talking on the occasion, Dr. Raghuram, President, TI Cycles said that "We aim to help put Mumbai on the international cycling map as well as contribute to a healthier and greener environment through the BSA Hercules India Cyclothon, Mumbai-2010".
On the Khan household, besides the 'most-Wanted' Salman, one also saw presence of his brother Sohail Khan and also sister Arpita, who seemed to be happy about her brother taking her on a bicycle ride.
