If you can accept Shreyas Talpade as a womanizing glam photographer who clicks with the ladies, so to speak, and Sneha Ullal (remember her as Salman Khan's under-age lover-girl in Lucky) then the underlining them of love-on-the-prowl in afterlife is chilling in fits spasms and spurts.
Director Sangeeth Sivan, who had earlier carved a comic slant for himself with Kya Kool Hain Hum, displays a penchant for projecting a mood of ominous foreboding into the finely-lit frames. The camera (T Ramji) is impeccably mood-oriented. The idyllic Goanese outdoors and the neat spacious artistically-designed interiors are used intelligently to create a sense of horrific disorder under the commodious elegant surfaces.
Sandeep Chowta's reined-in background score is another asset to the mood of underlying foreboding, though the songs done as annoying set-pieces with auto-pilot choreography are like a molar surgery in the middle of a trying day.
The sound-design mercifully precludes startling noises and creaking doors. Like Ram Gopal Varma's Bhoot, Click focuses on finding the centre of the terror in ordinary circumstances.
If only portions of the plot was not so hard to digest. Moving on an age-old premise for horror cinema where the protagonist's past trespasses catch up with him in chilling infinity, Click creates a mélange of intended terror and unintended humour.
Talpade (somewhat miscast) is the not-so-fashionable fashion photographer whose camera begins to capture spirits.
The feeling of something-out-there is well-developed. But the gruesome pre-denouement gang-rape and murder are not just out of place but done with unpardonable half-heartedness.
Some of the hero's trysts with the spook, such as the sequence where he climbs down a fire escape with the spirit in hot pursuit, are spine-chilling. The dying moments where Avi's past guilt literally rides on his shoulder and apparently for the rest of his life, are a terrifying representation of guilt, almost Kafkaesque in their resonances, though the rest of the film is too flighty to carry the existential burden.
While Shreyas is effective in the traumatized moments his two co-stars are listless. Blessedly this shiver giver seems original.
And we can't fault the film for cracking the horror genre with a basic amount of finesse.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 19 Feb 2010 | 6:38 am Won't tolerate remarks on women in my home: AmitabhBollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he is appalled at the rumours spread by a Mumbai tabloid regarding his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai's health, calling it "the lowest quality of journalism".Source: Entertainment News | 19 Feb 2010 | 6:31 am Bollywood mourns Nirmal PandeyThe film fraternity is mourning Nirmal Pandey of "Bandit Queen" fame, who died of a heart attack on Thursday.Source: Entertainment News | 19 Feb 2010 | 5:55 am 'Just Another Love Story' gets full house in Berlin"Arekti Premer Golpo" (Just another love story) - a daring, sensitive, layered, gay love story - got full house at the ongoing Berlin International Film Festival.Source: Entertainment News | 19 Feb 2010 | 5:24 am Vatsal Sheth breaks into 'Ruk Ruk Ruk' from Vijaypath for Tabu
Vatsal Sheth who plays Tabu's co-star in Toh Baat Pakki had the time of his life while shooting for the film.
Tabu playing an older sisterly role took the two guys, especially Vatsal under her wings, and looked after them on location. She regularly gave tips to Vatsal on how to handle his scenes.
Vatsal one day mustered the courage to break into Tabu's infamous 'Ruk Rusk Ruk' dance item from Vijaypath.
Laughs Vatsal, "That's quite true. At first I was quite intimidated by Tabu. I mean she is... My God! The ultimate. But as we shot for the film far away in Ooty where there was no life except shooting, we began to know her better. Far from her stern aloof image, Tabu is loads of fun when you get to know her."
There came a time when Tabu and the two boys were totally at ease. That's when Vatsal and Sharman's 'Ruk Ruk' happened.
Recounts Vatsal, "We were playing antakshari with the boys on one side and the girls on the other. When I got a chance to sing a song beginning with 'R' I saw it as god-sent. I had been waiting to sing 'Ruk Ruk Ruk' to Tabu. It was one of my favourite songs on television when I was younger."
Recalling the golden moment, Vatsal says. "Tabu loved my performance. At the end of it she pretended to be serious and said, 'Naughty boy!' She's the best. I will never forget the experience of working with her in Toh Baat Pakki. Such a legend and so hassle-free and so much fun."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 19 Feb 2010 | 5:14 am Decks cleared for Shiney Ahuja's trial in rape case

Seldom has an actor challenged himself so gravely in such a wild variety of roles, add to this his stage triumphs in school and college and we're clearly talking about a very special performer, indeed: Shreyas Talpade, and even if he is blissfully unaware of his movie-making highs and lows, his adoring fans aren't. He may have put the odd toe-tapping foot right since he burst on the scene strutting his stuff in Iqbal, but he's always welcomed back by his fans with more diverse roles, be it Om Shanti Om, Golmaal Returns or the recent Click. That's because Shreyas Talpade has a reputation in the business for being a true gentleman and one of the nicest stars around. Happily, meeting him in the flesh, confirms that really is the case. His career is fluctuating for better. It's good because he is one of the rare celebrities who wants his hands and feet spread all over the different genre of films that directors are venturing into. So does that tag him as a risk taker? Yes, it does. Because taking risks is safer than avoiding it. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent chats with the talented Talpade who is filming somewhere in the foothills of the Himalayas for his next undisclosed film. Is that spooky or scary, we don't know! What we do know is that his latest release Click may just scare you, if not spook you out, or who knows you may go home with - a smile? You never know when you're clicked!
Do you define Click as a supernatural thriller or a horror flick?
I wouldn't call it any of these. I'd like to term it as a romantic horror. The crux of the film is its romance and horror is the format what we've chose to tell the story.
Was there a moment in your life when a photograph couldn't let you sleep? Meaning, was it nightmarish?
When we started shooting, there was a time Sangeeth Sivan showed me some pictures related to the context of the film. I asked him whether such a thing exists. I mean, I asked him whether there are really such photographs which spook you out. Some of the pictures were spooky. From then on, I started believing in such photographs. Negatives can also be spooky sometimes. So whenever I look at any picture now, I try to find if there is anything hidden inside the image. You never know!
A film like this has a very selective audience. Are we still lacking in accepting cinema like Click?
The number of horror films we have been making in Indian cinema is growing by leaps and bounds. It is at least better than what we were making ten years back. The genre, especially when it taps into horror, is not really explored into or worked into too much. So you're right in that regards but to say that we aren't accepting it is a bit misleading. Films like Phoonk, 1920 and 13B are examples that horror films are working. The best example is that of Paranormal Activity in Hollywood. Comedy and romance will keep on existing but then the audiences need a change, and that's when horror films come handy.
Recall the first horror film you were a witness toâ¦
I think it had to be from Ramsay Brothers. It was Veerana or Haveli. After that it was Nightmare On The Elm Street. We were at a friend's place where we saw the film on the VHS by shutting all the lights and drawing all the curtains. It was scary.
Sangeeth Sivan is least tapped into. Do you think he should be making more cinema?
Yes. Sangeeth Sivan has made some good comedy films and suddenly he has moved to a horror film. But not many know that Sangeeth's forte is thriller and horror flicks. You need that kind of a psyche to understand what sound and camera angle will look good to make such kind of a film, and Sivan has that niche. It's not everyone's cup of tea. It's good to work with a guy who is equally comfortable in comedy and yet switch to horror or thrillers. Having said that, Sangeeth Sivan needs to make lots more films than what he actually is at the moment.

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 19 Feb 2010 | 4:13 am "Omkara didn't fetch me National Award, right?" - Saif Ali Khan
Enough is enough for Saif Ali Khan. It has been a month since Padma Sri Awards were announced and Saif Ali Khan was conferred this title for his contribution to cinema. While he was humility personified all through these days (he still continues to be), he isn't willing to take it all lying down with his detractors not really showering him with flattering compliments. Feeling a strong deja vu of controversy that had erupted when he received the National Award for Hum Tum a few years back, Saif Ali Khan is disappointed with few stray comments and idle gossips 'spoiling the show' for him when he would have rather basked in the glory of national recognition coming his way. Turning offensive in his own mild way and ready to give a strong message to the ones who continue to challenge the award and in turn his standing as an actor in Indian cinema, Saif bares his heart out in conversation with Joginder Tuteja.
The controversy
A few years back when he was conferred with the National Award for Hum Tum, there were quite a few murmurs raised. However, access to cutting edge technology and hence more media power means that these murmurs turned out to be full blown attack this year when it came to the Padma Shri Award. If newspapers and portals were not bad enough, social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter too joined the fray. This deadly combination resulted in quite a few comments being posted online within hours of the awards being announced. So much so that headlines of even reputed National newspapers screamed 'murder' within a few hours and the dust seems to be settling down only now.
"I actually gave it a lot of thought over the last few days and strongly feel that one person tweeting and another going through it on a computer is like overhearing a conversation in a coffee shop", Saif is clearly disturbed here and he is not making any effort not to show it, "As for a few select tweets being reproduced on newspaper etc. then let's look at it this way - some people select tweets, they are published by another and edited by somebody else. Yes, people are entitled to their opinion but it does turn really nasty after all."
The shock
While it is quite visible that this entire episode has left an ugly taste in his mouth, does Saif feel that by getting such recognition, he may have ended up shocking quite a few of his contemporaries and colleagues, both in a pleasant and a not so pleasant manner?
"I am sure people are quite easily shocked", Saif tries to bring on a smile here, "A large section of people contest judgement of awards, especially of this stature; that's normal. Also, with some people it is expected and with some others it is not. Yes, when you are continuously asked this question, it does spoil the show a little bit. "
The Omkara regret
Saif does indeed believe in the theory of 'it all levels out at the end of the day', since he has a first hand experience in that. A few years back, the world stood up for him with his bravura performance in Omkara as 'Langda Tyagi'. However, awards at the highest level eluded him.
"Omkara didn't fetch me a National Award, right? But if it would have, I don't think there would have been much noise. This is why I think it all balances out eventually", reasons Saif, "If you question a Hum Tum then why don't you speak up in defence of am Omkara? This is why I am disappointed when an honour is challenged like this. A Padma Shri is for an actor's continuous contribution to cinema and mine has been reasonably good enough with an Omkara or more recently a Love Aaj Kal behind me. Maybe if I do a couple of two more great films in as many years, the voices will all muffle down."
The current situation
"In our society we are not really making any Oscar winning movies, are we", questions Saif who gets seriously talking now, "I guess it is only once in a while that we actually end up making a classic. I try to choose the best of what is offered to me and then make the best of cinema that I have access to. This is why when I look at the body of work I have done over the period of time; I don't think it is actually inferior to dozens of other films that are made every year. People should not be as harsh as they have been sounding."
The future
Now after Love Aaj Kal, he is all set to embark on his next production Agent Vinod. One wonders what's the current status of the film given the fact that quite a lot has been heard and written about Agent Vinod over last so many months. When does director Sriram Raghavan bring this spy thriller on floors?
Smiles Saif, "Yes, I know a lot has been said about it but we are very much on track. Final touches are being given to the script and at the end of March; we should have the film on floors. Meanwhile, I definitely want to work on Race 2. To do a romantic comedy is also something that stands high up in my list but then I am just waiting for a great script to come my way."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 19 Feb 2010 | 4:09 am Demi Moore is a cry baby

John Abraham, Abhay Deol and Genelia D'Souza have been chosen as the brand ambassadors for the LG range of mobile phones.
According to Bollywood Hungama's confirmed sources, the three have been appointed by the electronics major LG (it's the first time that the said company has roped in any brand ambassadors) to be the face of LG Mobiles. The source also added that the three stars were chosen amongst others, since they represent the company's brand values of excellence in performance. Imran Khan proved himself a man of the masses when recently he shot a cola ad with Kalki Koechlin shot by Dibakar (Love Sex & Dhokha) Banerjee.
The ad, a slice-of-life love story about two strangers' chance encounter on a crowded streets of Mumbai shot over 2 days last month, had hordes of fan descending on location. Imran dealt with the situation like a pro, mingling, signing autographs, posing for photographs.
The BEST bus hired for the shoot became his home for two days.
Says Banerjee who's making his next feature film with Imran, "Seeing the discipline and drive Imran invested into the ad, I'm more than convinced I'm ready to work with mainstream actors."
Banerjee who has so far done three feature films with actors like Abhay Deol, Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher, is looking to cast Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif.
Apparently, Imran was lost to the rest of the world for those two days when the ad was shot. Says Dibakar, "We shot the ad on a relatively lonely stretch of road in Malad. But the news that Imran was shooting spread and fans would swoop down every hour. Considering the tight schedule Imran would either quickly hide in his vanity van until the fans left or meet them in a very friendly manner."
The BEST bus had character actors as Imran's co-passengers and Imran was soon friendly with all of them.
Says the director, "All I can say is, Imran won more than a busload of fans in those two days. At the moment, I'm busy putting finishing touches to my release Love Sex Aur Dhokha. But right after that I'll get to work on the Imran project."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 19 Feb 2010 | 2:59 am "I'd like to term Click as a romantic horror" - Oneindia

There is a famous dialogue of the famous film Munnabhai MBBS, which says "Munna...tum toh khuda ho... tum kuch bhi kar sakte ho".
Well, the very lines hold immense water and truth for the man whom we better know as Amitabh Bachchan aka Big B. The legendary actor, recently in an awards function, just couldn't help showing off his soft side as he got immensely moved by the strength and conviction of a 90 year old freedom fighter lady named Gayatri Devi and her fight for her pension, so much so that he decided to take care of her for the next five years. Big B wrote in his blog stating that, "All she wants is her due - her pension - Rs 3,500 /- per month from the Government!"
For starters, Gayatri Devi has been on a protest on the streets of Delhi since the last four years in order to get her freedom fighter's pension restored. The pension money that she was getting from the Bihar government under the "Samman" pension scheme for freedom fighters since 1997 was suddenly stopped in 2002. What's worse was that it was reasoned that her money was stopped because her name appeared in a list of fake freedom fighters. Despite the old lady's running from pillar to post, justice was totally denied. Umpteen pleas and appeal to the ministers fell on deaf ears. Now that Big B has planned to adopt the lady, the lady has not stopped smiling since then.

The track is a brand new remix version of the super hit song 'Apni Toh Jaise Taise' from the 1981 Big B starrer Laawaris.
We got in touch with Sajid Khan, who shared some more details of what promises to be a blockbuster song. "Yes...we've been busy shooting the 'Apni Toh Jaise Taise' track since the last 3 days. Besides all the main actors, the song also features Jacqueline Fernandez. 'Apni Toh Jaise Taise' is a cult favorite and the way Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have remixed it is something which has to be heard to be believed. Mika has sung the song and we've also used the vocals of Kishoreda who sang the original version. Farah has done the choreography."
Akshay Kumar tweeted about the song this morning saying, "Though nothing close to the original...we've tried our best. Hope it lives up to all your expectations."
When asked if the song would feature in the film, Sajid said, "Of course...it comes during the pre-climax. It's a complete fun song and we"ve all had a blast shooting it."
Looks like this one has chartbuster written all over it.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 18 Feb 2010 | 6:33 am Vidya Balan moves into her new home in Khar Finally, Vidya Balan has made that move. Three weeks ago, Vidya Balan finally moved into her new 4-bedroom place in Khar.
And she just can't get enough of her brand new possession. "It's virtually been built brick by brick by me in the middle of my busy schedules. I wasn't able to give the house time at a stretch. That's why it took time to be put together."
Now the 'house-proud' actress intends to have a house-warming party, her first get-together since she came into the film industry, and also a good time to celebrate since two of her back-to-back films have been declared hits.
But nothing about Vidya is convention. Not even her house-warming party. Says the lovely actress, "I think it's imprudent to invite all your friends all at once for one party. This makes the gathering unmanageable, guests who don't know one another get uncomfortable. So I'm having a series of sit-in dinners in my new house where groups of friends who know one another, can come together for cosy comfortable conversations and food."
But first, Vidya wants every little detail in her new house to be perfect. "I'm fastidious about cleanliness to the point of being obsessive about my home. If I feel a drawer is messy, I will clean it up at 3 in the morning after a hard day's shooting. So before my house-warming parties start, I need to make sure everything is in place."
Vidya admits the home is now her proudest possession. "Shifting into it after the release of Ishqiya is a conscious move. I think after Paa and Ishqiya I've earned myself a place of my own."
Vidya earlier stayed in a much smaller place in Chembur. The new place has been done up by a friend of her father.
"Nobody that is familiar to the film fraternity. He had done up our earlier place as well."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 18 Feb 2010 | 5:41 am My Name Is Khan is triumphant entry for Star-Fox in Bollywood
Star-Fox, the American co-producers of Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan are mighty pleased with the outcome of their first international collaboration.
Interestingly, the music in MNIK is not being seen as a hindrance for the international market.
Says Vijay Singh, CEO Star-Fox, "The songs are not lip-sync and they do not hamper the flow of the narrative. The myth that the songs must be lip-sync has been broken. The idea is to push the boundaries and see how far we can take Bollywood. MNIK has raised the bar for Indian cinema. Abroad, my colleagues in LA are surprised by the kind of numbers we're getting in the US. Khan has performed 2 1/2 times better overseas than any other Indian film. It's a great moment for Bollywood. Nobody knew what the upper limit for profits was for Bollywood internationally. People leave the theatre with a message in their heart. We all went through some difficult times initially. But that's all behind us now."
Singh says the Star-Fox headquarter in LA were watching the progression of MNIK very carefully. "We always believed in the film. Right from Day 1, they were looking at Khan not as a film on issues but an epic love story. That's what attracted us to the project in the first place. We've put the film in different countries keeping in mind the different audiences. In the UK we've given it the highest number of prints possible. We worked very closely with Karan Johar and then marketed the film according the cultural requirements of the specific countries. Our colleagues all over the world were taken into confidence. We don't see the international market as a spill over of the Indian market. We spent money in every market to set up the film keeping in mind the specifics."
Says Vijay, "Audiences for Indian cinema are changing all over the world. MNIK had the biggest and the best talent in Hindi cinema."
And now Star-Fox will produce another Hindi film. "This time more of an entertainer on a far less lavish budget but with an underlying message," promises Vijay Singh.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 18 Feb 2010 | 3:55 am Indian media: Social accountability is a lost causeIn war of TRPs to air the news before anyone else, little attention is paid to verify the information by the channels.
