Aamir Khan is in news again, this time round, not for his reel-life, but for his real life. The news that has taken the whole of the media world is that of a heated altercation between him and the veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar.
According to Bollywood Hungama's confirmed sources, the story goes, "In the said meeting, one of the things that came up was a partnership between the creative people and the producers. And one of the key issues that were discussed was the royalty on songs. At one point of time, Aamir pointed out that in the marketing of a song in Bollywood, there's a lot of contribution from other people, like the actor and others. So, how do we divide the royalties between the lyricists, the music composers and all the other people who also contribute towards the making of the song. And the point that Javed Akhtar was trying to make was that the other people may or may not be the contributors to the song, but the lyricists and the music composers' contribution is primary to the song. And in the due course, they both brought up examples from their own films. The overall discussion was heated."
Apparently, if the reports are to be believed, then, it was Aamir's remarks which angered Javed Akhtar who said that the song 'Papa Kehte Hain' became a hit despite the fact that Aamir was not a star at that time. The panel also includes Javed Akhtar, Boney Kapoor, Mukesh Bhatt, Vishal Bhardwaj, Vishal Dadlani, Prasoon Joshi, Anjum Rajabli, Madhu Manthena and Bhushan Kumar.
As a result of all this, Aamir has resigned from the 10-member committee formed by the government to look into the proposed amendments to the Copyright Act. In his letter to the HRD minister Kapil Sibal, Aamir reasoned out the following:
'I would like to bring to your notice a number of articles which appeared in the media in the past few days. Sir, it seems to me that there is an attempt by certain people to attack me in public by printing lies about me, thereby turning the attention away from a genuine debate about copyright issues. I am grateful to you for inviting me to be part of a committee to discuss the various issues regarding amendments to the Copyright Act. However in light of these public attacks on me I don't think I am comfortable to be part of this committee. Sir, I take great pride in my honesty and integrity, and attach an enormous amount of value to my sense of justice and fair play. Monetary achievements have never excited me. If they had, I would have acted in many more than one film a year, thereby being financially much richer than I currently am. Had I been driven by monetary achievements I would not have produced films that challenge the mainstream and break new ground, films like Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par and PeepliLIVE, that most producers would hesitate to produce.
I believe that what I have earned is the love and respect of my colleagues and my audience. And this I have done through my work and through the manner in which I work. This is why such public attacks are most damaging to me emotionally and leave me crippled. In the past 26 years of my involvement with the film industry I may have made mistakes, but never have I knowingly been dishonest or unfair in my dealings, whether as an assistant director, actor, producer or director.
Therefore I request you to accept my resignation from this committee and please appoint another person in my place.
I believe that amendments to the Copyright Act are long overdue and I am so happy that a person like you is spearheading this movement. I believe that the changes that you are bringing about in the sphere of education are so dynamic, progressive and positive, that I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that you will do the same in the field of copyright.'
Official statement from HRD minister on this matter is awaited.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 17 Feb 2010 | 6:20 am Salman Khan returns 1.5 cr for Arbaaz's sake - Bollywood Mantra

Director Sangeeth Sivan is busy with the release of his horror film Click which comes out on Friday (Feb 19). However, post Click, the director has two films lined up and is still not sure which one to start first. One of them is Cheers- Celebrate Life which stars the father son duo of Dharmendra and Bobby Deol and the second is a film called Jab Jab Fools Mile which stars Sanjay Dutt, Bobby Deol and one more hero. However, Sangeeth is still not sure which one he will start work on first.
"The script of Cheers- Celebrate Life is ready. The film is basically a road trip story of a father and a son with some character driven humor and is produced by Vijeta Films. The other film Jab Jab Fools Mile is an out and out comedy to be produced by Rupali Aum Entertainment (the makers of Click). We have already locked in Sanjay Dutt and Bobby Deol and are in talks to sign one more hero. Besides, the film will also star 3 leading ladies. Right now, however I am focusing on Click which releases this Friday. Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 17 Feb 2010 | 6:06 am Esha Deol participates in camel race for her film Tell Me Oh Khuda
Esha Deol, in her own words, is bruised black and blue. This month after participating in a camel race in Jaisalmer and doing road stunts in Goa for her mother's production Tell Me Oh Khuda, Esha can barely move a limb.
"The director Mayur Puri and the fight master Parvez bhai forgot I was all said and done, a girl and therefore delicate in my own way. This has been the most physically demanding experience of my life," says Esha wincing in pain.
Twenty-six years after Hema Malini got on a camel in the Rajasthan deserts to sing the haunting 'Ae Dil-E-Nadaan' in Kamal Amrohi's Razia Sultan, Esha rode the camel like a pro in Jaisalmer.
Protests Esha, "In Razia Sultan, mom was singing on the camel. I was wincing in pain. For ten days I rode the camel like a professional for a camel race along with Arjan Bajwa, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Sudhandhu Pande. I was the only girl in the team. But people seemed to forget that. But if I may say so, I had the best calves on display in the typical Rajasthani camel-rider's costume, the kurta lungi and all."
For the first few days Esha was in a daze. "The seat on top of the camel is so rough and so unfriendly to comfortable riding, my knees and inner thighs were constantly bruised. When my mother saw I was hurt she was livid. But I told her to chill. And we continued shooting on the camels for a good week after that. Now I can call myself an expert camel rider."
Esha's training in kick-boxing held her in good stead. "For the last two years I've subconsciously been training for this film. I needed to get physically fit, which I've done. And I needed to mature emotionally. That too, I think, I've achieved."
Esha says shooting Tell Me Oh Khuda has been like shooting three different films. "We shoot in three different continents with three different cinematographers. So it's like doing three different films. In Turkey, I shot with Rishi Kapoorji and in Jaisalmer I'm shooting with Vinod Khannaji."
Now Esha wants to bring her father Dharmendra and mom Hema together for the last segment of the film. "It's a dream for me to have them in the same film as me, so that one day I can tell my grandchildren, 'I made this happen.' And I will make it happen."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 17 Feb 2010 | 5:36 am Why is Abhay Deol doing a multi-hero film? There was a strong rumour in the industry last week that Abhay Deol, on a high after the accolades and profits for Dev D, was having second thoughts about doing Zoya Akhtar's film with Farhan Akhtar and Hrithik Roshan.Source: | 17 Feb 2010 | 5:34 am Short films by non-filmmakersRegular city celebrities, turned amateur directors, now hope to showcase their latest creations at film festivals.Source: | 17 Feb 2010 | 5:28 am Joslyn James claims Tiger Woods impregnated her twicePorn star Joslyn James, who was earlier linked to Tiger Woods, has now revealed that the golfer impregnated her twice, but one pregnancy ended in an abortion and another in a miscarriage. Meet the birthday girl Sadaa Sayed. A Maharashtra girl who has already made it big down South, courtesy 10 (oops, 20, as she corrects me later in the conversation) odd films that she already has to her credit, including top director Shankar's Anniyan (which was later dubbed into Hindi as Aparichit), Sadaa is now stepping into the world of Bollywood. As she turns a year older today, there is a birthday gift waiting right up there at her front door with the release of Click just a couple of days away. In a conversation with Joginder Tuteja, Sadaa talks about her first major outing in Bollywood, her kick start with a horror flick and the kind of route that she has decided to choose in order to survive in the Hindi film industry.
With a title like Click, it seems that you have kick started a thrilling Bollywood career for yourself. After all the film is being promoted as a 'horror thriller'!
(Laughs) Hopefully yes! True, the title is really very interesting. When I was approached for the film it is the title that attracted me most since it is quite intriguing. Moreover, since the film is a thriller, the title suited the genre just fine.
After working in 10 odd films down South, it must have been a different experience working in a Bollywood setup...
(Interrupts in an animated tone) 10 movies nahi, 20 movies. Anyways, people think that in South, movie banne mein time nahi lagta but then the fact is that there too it does take time. It's just that they stick to the call sheet. Same was the case with Click too. If the call time is 7'o clock there, the shooting did start at maximum by 7:30 sharp. Here there was no time wastage at all. All my 20 days were utilised minute to minute. Even the production cost was under control. Sangeeth (Sivan) sir and team were all so organised. In fact I was very happy shooting for it.
What's the kind of route that you have set for yourself as far as Bollywood outing is concerned?
We actors sometime do a film as an obligation or a friendly gesture. However, now I have decided that I won't do anything out of sheer goodwill. I will politely refuse instead of picking a project for a banner which is absolutely new or has on board a director who has one-two films that were not accepted commercially or otherwise.
However, in Click, there are three other principal characters as well in the form of Shreyas (Talpade), Rehan (Khan) and Sneha (Ullal). Didn't you ever worry that it would be difficult to make a mark with so many other people around?
Not really because the film is basically about a couple played by Shreyas and me. It is a story of these two people who have a nice life. Suddenly Shreyas sees a photograph and his past life starts reflecting in it. Soon, things start getting difficult for them and life is never the same again. In the second half of the film, there is a revelation around why things happen the way they are. When I accepted Click, it was a full fledged character throughout the film's duration and this is the way it is even today.

Martin Scorsese has shown keen interest in revising and restoring Mamata Shankar's legendary father Uday Shankar's film Kalpana.
Sheepishly Mamata confesses she has been not as swift and professional in her dealings with Martin Scorsese as she should have.
"He has indeed been very interested. But I've not been able to keep up the communication with Martin as much as I'd like to. I'm so busy with many different things. Apart from looking after my family and work I also have a mother (former danseuse Amala Shankar) who is over 90. All this is no excuse for putting behind a project as important as a restoration of my father's film."
Mamata now intends to interact seriously with Martin Scorsese and get the restoration work off the ground. "I feel it's a great responsibility that has been put forward for me. I can't thank Martin Scorsese enough for taking such keen interest in Kalpana."
The legendary choreographer -dancer Uday Shankar's daughter Mamata Shankar who is a reputed actress in her own right has just completed another Bengali film Abohoman where her role is apparently based on Mrs Satyajit Ray's life.
The soft-spoken Mamata who wears the hat of a dancer (she runs Udayan The Mamata Shankar Dance Company), actress and housewife protests against any resemblance of her character to real life.
"There are so many wives of directors who support and help their husband with the making of their films the way I'm supposed to have done in Abohoman and there are directors who have had relationships with their actresses. I don't think Abohoman is based on any one life or experience," protests Mamata who has played the lead in 3 of Satyajit Ray's films Ganshatru, Shakha Proshakha and Agantuk and several notable works of Mrinal Sen.
In fact Mamata's first feature film Mrinal Sens's Mrigaya in 1976 was also her last Hindi film. "After Mrigaya I never got an offer in Hindi worth considering. Rather than do inconsequential roles I chose to stay away from Hindi cinema. My output in Bengali cinema too is sparse. I'm grateful to Rituparno Ghosh for giving me a role like Abohoman. It gave me a chance to play a woman quite unlike any I've played so far. In most of my films I play women who are organized formal and proper. In Abohoman, I'm quite scattered the way I'm in real life."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 17 Feb 2010 | 3:48 am Katrina Kaif denies sex tape rumoursBollywood actress Katrina Kaif has denied that her younger sister Isabel Kaif was seen in the recent sex tape that has been doing rounds of the internet. Source: Entertainment - Google News | 17 Feb 2010 | 3:33 am Priyanka Chopra joins Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn
Indian actors continue to make waves abroad. While Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan have already gained legendary status overseas with continued presence amongst the who-is-who of the international arena, it is all the more heartening when the actor who goes on to find appreciation across the seas happens to be someone as young as Priyanka Chopra.
Recently, Palazzo Spini Feroni, the historic Florentine headquarters of Salvatore Ferragamo, hosted Priyanka Chopra for the first time. She visited the Florentine label as part of the Shoes for a Star project. This makes her the first Indian actress to join the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.
Informs Priyanka's friend who is in know-how of what happened at the event. "She was presented with her personalised wooden last in a special ceremony at the Salvatore Ferragamo boutique at the Galleria Trident. She has now received her very own evening sandal with rhinestone crusted 13cm heel and platform. The material and colour too was of her choice. You should see the piece; it is one of its own kinds in the world."
It was an exceptional initiative in which the young actress received Salvatore Ferragamo's inimitable VIP treatment, once reserved for Hollywood stars in another era.
Says Priyanka Chopra who is obviously thrilled with the treatment meted to her. "I am delighted to own my very own customised pair of shoes from Ferragamo. It's every girl's dream come true. You know, it's such a great feeling to catch hold of a fantabulous pair of shoes that were specially designed for me by one of the foremost brands in the world."
A guest at the Ferragamo family owned Gallery Art Hotel, Priyanka Chopra was invited to Palazzo Spini Feroni for a welcome lunch with the Ferragamo family and a tour of the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum. During her visit, she also met with expert shoemakers who measured her feet for wooden lasts, an essential part of the Ferragamo shoemaking process. Next, she met with the shoe designers who then created a customized shoe in line with her taste and requests.
"What makes it so much more special is that it is the only one of its kind in the world.
While I was consulted during the design process, it was another feeling altogether when I saw my shoes for the first time", smiles Priyanka.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 17 Feb 2010 | 3:00 am Purab Kohli's Afia(r) with Nandita Das - Oneindia

While animation movies are hugely popular Overseas, they have, with the exception of one or two movies, never really found their niche in the Indian market. But Hollywood giant Warner Bros. and veteran Jyotin Goel hope to bring animation movies in the spotlight with BIRD IDOL, their first collaboration.
Coming from a background of working with big-name stars such as Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla, some might believe that Jyotin took a risk by entering an unproven medium in India. But Jyotin is quick to refute such claims. He believes that there is a huge, untapped market for animation movies in India, as seen by the success of foreign animation films that release here. BIRD IDOL, he promises, will prove to be a game-changer and will open up a new market for Indian films.
Says Jyotin, "BIRD IDOL is a laugh-out-loud riot, combining international quality animation with pure, unadulterated comedy. It creates a fantasy world where the birds of Mumbai are as human as the people who inhabit it. They go to school, watch TV, go out on dates and yes, even watch reality shows, especially the musical show known for making stars overnight - 'Bird Idol'."
A collaboration between Warner Bros. and Goel Screencraft, BIRD IDOL reinforces a trend that has taken place in recent years, that of Hollywood and Bollywood coming together. However, this particular collaboration is even more significant as it marks the coming together of one of the oldest banners in Hollywood with one of the oldest banners in Bollywood. The Goel banner was established in 1948 and has innumerable hits to its credit, with movies such as DUS LAKH, EK PHOOL DO MALI and INAAM DUS HAZAAR that are still appreciated today.
Another feature of interest is that, after Devendra Goel and Jyotin Goel, BIRD IDOL also introduces a third generation of the Goel family to the industry. Dev Goel, son of Jyotin Goel, assisted and co-wrote the film with his father. The animation is by Interactive Entertainment P. Ltd., while Sangeet and Siddharth Haldipur provide music.
This summer, rediscover your inner child with BIRD IDOL.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 16 Feb 2010 | 11:58 pm Sada-Sneha Ullal in a catfight? - Oneindia
