The news that has been doing the rounds for sometime now is about the search for the heroine of Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder's flick Tees Maar Khan. The film has been in news since its announcement. First it was Akshay replacing SRK as the lead, followed by the 'namesake' casting coup, wherein Akshaye Khanna was roped in for the film.
As far as the heroine for the film was concerned, the rumor mills went overboard with names that ranged from Sonam Kapoor to Deepika Padukone and likes. But, according to Bollywood Hungama's confirmed sources it is neither Sonam, nor Deepika, because it is Katrina Kaif! When we spoke to Shirish to confirm the news, all that he said was, "I cannot say anything right now. I can only speak about it in a couple of days." Our source also went onto add that the trio of Akshay, Katrina and Farah have shot a cover page shoot for a daily (which is supposed to be out in a couple of days) to announce the coming on board of Katrina as Tees Maar Khan's leading lady.
With Katrina coming on board, expectations are bound to be sky-high about Tees Maar Khan, considering the hit track record that Akki-Katz have delivered in the past, like Namastey London, Welcome and Singh Is Kinng to name a few. A freelance journalist and a budding writer Sonal Mehta has taken Ram Gopal Varma and the producers of Rann to court, apparently for breach of copyright.
Ramu hugely preoccupied with the pre-release and promotion of Rann says, "I first want to ask Ms Sonal Mehta one thing. Why has she waited till just a little more than one week before the release of Rann to make her claim? And secondly has she seen even one frame of Rann to decide the screenplay is similar to her idea?"
To his credit Ramu doesn't deny getting a story idea from Sonal Mehta. "She was a part of my production house 'The Factory', 4-5 years ago when I was making James. She came to me with an idea for a film on the media which I didn't like much. Still I said she should try to get a leading man to agree to do the film if she wanted to direct it. I didn't like the names she came up with. And there ended the project."
Ramu admits Sonal Mehta's claims came to him as a complete surprise. "But only to the extent that I had completely forgotten her existence. However, making such claims in the court days before release has become fashionable. This is her way of getting publicity. And I'm most happy if I can be of help."
Ramu's sarcasm apart, the producers of Rann, Madhu Mantena and Sheetal Talwar intend to counter-challenge Sonal Mehta's claim in court.
Says Ramu, "I'm not the least bothered. Because I know there's no truth to her claim. The writer of Rann is Rohit Banawliker. There can be a hundred takes on the media. I've made so many films on the underworld. Are they similar? The analysis took the form of an extensive survey (from 16th to 28th Dec.) conducted online amongst those who really matter - the Consumers. Spanning regions as diverse as India and South-East Asia to the European Union and USA-Canada, the user had to select his/her 5 most anticipated movies. To ensure complete transparency and accuracy, a three level authentication check with email validation, cookie check and IP mapping was put into place. The hot list of the Most Awaited Movies of 2010* truly proved to be the voice of the masses, garnering an overwhelming response. The 12-day poll saw 1,79,681 valid responses. Results were compiled based on votes from 72 countries - countries which constitute about 98% of revenue towards Bollywood releases. The poll indicates that Indian viewers have not warmed up to animation films. While Tarun Mansukhani's animation film Koochie Koochie Hota Hain ranks 9th and 20th in the UK and US votes polled, it finds no spot on the Indian top 20. 2. Suddenly, as it were, Salman has transformed into the perennial patriot promoting nationalism and brotherhood at any given cause.
According to sources close to the Khan, Salman will now be a part of the Republic Day parade on 26 January to not only participate in the event but also to comment on the whole concept of freedom and independence in the contemporary context.
According to a source, "This is Salman's golden opportunity to clean up his image. He wants to wipe out his anti-establishment image. He has made up with the media. Now he wants to project himself as someone who cares deeply for his country."
Producer Vijay Galani confirms Salman's presence and participation at the Republic Day parade in Delhi on January 26. Says Galani, "Salman will be seen live on a Hindi channel at the Republic Day parade talking about what freedom and independence mean to Indians."
Salman has been preparing extensively to hold forth in Delhi on 26 January. Says a close friend of the actor, "Salman is tired of being portrayed as the enfant-terrible. He wants a clean image. He's told his family and friends he'd like to set the right example for his younger fans."
The theme of Salman's Republic Day comments in Delhi would be, 'Do Not Misuse Your Freedom.' For those who feel that the Miss India pageant has become a platform (read 'stepping stone') to Bollywood, then, be ready to get a whiff of whirlwind as we have some news for you that will definitely be music to your ears.
The much coveted Pantaloon's Femina Miss India, yesterday, announced a strategic collaboration with two of Bollywood's ace directors Madhur Bhandarkar and Vipul Shah. Their 'roles' in this collaboration will be to identify, mentor and launch two Miss India finale contestants in their respective upcoming film projects. If that wasn't filmy enough, then, here's more! The said contestants will also be getting groomed under the likes of the stalwarts like Anupam Kher and Shiamak Davar, who will also be supporting the association by way of training and mentoring the contestants in acting and dance respectively. The 'modus operandi' has been designed in such a way that Madhur Bhandarkar and Vipul Shah will interact with the contestants of Femina Miss India during the training period (mid March 2010 - end April 2010). From amongst these, they would audition and select one contestant each and launch the selected talent in one of their upcoming projects. As far as Anupam Kher is concerned, his talent company 'Actor Prepares' shall be designing a specialized training module for contestants in nuances of acting. Not just that, his institute shall also award a 3 month scholarship for their full time diploma course in acting to anyone of the deserving contestants. Lastly, Shiamak Davar, India's guru of modern contemporary dance, along with his team at SDIPA will be conducting exclusive workshops where he will train the contestants in Bollywood dancing.
Talking about the association, Vipul Shah said, "Today, Indian cinema is becoming the dream that millions want to achieve. Young individuals from across the country come to Mumbai to achieve this dream but they don't know how! Without proper preparation many talented candidates lose out on possible glory. Femina Miss India is a great platform for talented individuals to get noticed. By providing specialized and focused guidance to the potential Miss Indias, they will become a complete package not just for Indian cinema but also to represent the country more confidently on the global platform at a later stage."
Seconding his opinion, Madhur Bhandarkar opined, "This association will bring about a novel, focused yet entertaining element to the Miss India training process. We will ensure we create superb actresses in tandem with the Femina Miss India team. It is known fact that I love working with newcomers, new subjects for my films and I think that this innovative tie-up will give the film industry talented actresses to reckon with. I am looking for the right mix of talent and individuality and Femina Miss India is the perfect place to find such a person. "
Anupam Kher, on his part, stated, "I am very happy that my school 'Actor Prepares' will be a part of this initiative. Emraan Hashmi won't kiss his co-star Neha Sharma in his next film. The 'privilege' will go to an Australian chick.
Mohit Suri's film Crook: It's Good To Be Bad on racial attacks on Indian students in Australia will star four Australian actors, one of them would be a girl that the Indian hero (Emraan Hashmi) will fall in love with in Australia.
There would be an Indian leading lady, Telugu cinema's Neha Sharma. But she wouldn't get to kiss the serial kisser hero Emraan Hashmi. The smooching scenes in the script have been saved for the Aussie girl. Says Suri, "There will be some kissing in the film. And yes there will be an Australian girl. I can't say any more right now."
The director has auditioned a number of Australian actors and will zero in on the final actors shortly. "We start shooting in February. When I started researching on the problem of racial attacks in Australia I never thought it went so deep and far. My film won't be only about attacks on Indians or Asians. It will look at segregation discrimination and racism among all kinds of people."
The spoken language in the film would be a hybrid. Says Suri, "The characters will speak Hindi, English and other languages; Indian and foreign, spoken by students in Australia."
Neha Sharma is the latest entrant into Bollywood from the South Indian film industry. The girl made her debut in Telugu films with Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi's son Ram Charan Teja in Chirutha.
For her Hindi debut in Mohit Suri's film, Neha will be seen speaking in a smattering of Hindi and English. "And it's not even proper English. It's Australian -English. Neha plays a girl born and brought up in Australia. She plays a student who tries to mend the cultural gap between Indians and Australians."
