Many attempted it, only a few succeeded, while many others are still trying, hoping against hope that they will succeed someday or the other. We are talking about 'The Unravelling of Akshay Kumar', which, incidentally, also happens to be the subject of this issue of L'Officiel!
For those who wanted to know the 'real' Akki as compared to the 'reel' one, this issue definitely serves as one helluva' of a Bible! Well, Akki, in this free wheeling interview, speaks about the five things that he just cannot live without. Instead of playing a spoilsport, we shall be generous enough to mention three of them, which include Akki's mother, his son Aarav, wife Twinkle Khanna... and the rest of the two can be read in this glorious issue. Akshay, also talks about his idea of celebration, his take on fatherhood, his New Year resolutions, his attempts to save the planet, his take on those who rejected him during his struggling days etc...
All in all, as we said, this issue is a must-must buy this season and you know the reason...Akshay Kumar!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 8 Jan 2010 | 6:36 am Paris turns gas station attendant

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 8 Jan 2010 | 3:52 am Sanjay Gupta-Suparn Verma join hands for 'Avatar' inspired 3D horror flick
Avatar has done the trick. Not just has it created havoc at the global box office, it has also made many a filmmakers smell the coffee. The action adventure saga has registered its place in history as one of those films that has changed the very dimension of filmmaking. No wonder, Bollywood has also felt the impact, so much so that producer Sanjay Gupta has taken an early lead and announced his next film with director Suparn Gupta. Belonging to horror genre, this yet untitled 'live' film would be made in 3D format. This is not all as the duo wants to use the same technology with which James Cameron created Avatar and found worldwide recognition coming his way.
Says Sanjay Gupta, "James Cameron has shown the world that what was being created till date is now so passé. It's time to move on, to explore newer opportunities, to touch new horizons. One has to move out of the comfort zone and one has to do it fast. This idea was brewing in Suparn's mind for quite some time and I was pretty much on board to produce the film for him."
Traditionally, horror hasn't really made inroads in Hindi cinema in the way quintessential romantic film or an action drama has. Moreover, Sanjay Gupta has been known for making slick action flicks for last decade and a half. In such times, a step into horror genre and that too in 3D technology does sound a little too ambitious.
"Today with the kind of all around acceptance that Avatar is getting all over, I am convinced that audiences are pretty much ready for the 3D experience", says Gupta in a confident tone, "However, we also need to pull up our socks when it comes to the technology that we use for capturing the frames. It has to be cutting edge and futuristic. Avatar has shown us that way and we have all the right intentions on bringing in that technology to Bollywood for the first time ever."
For writer-director Suparn too, the film comes like a shot in the arm. His last release Acid Factory, which was made in collaboration with Mumbai Mantra, had turned out to be a mammoth disappointment at the box office in spite of quite a few decent reviews coming it's way. Just when one had thought that after his debut effort Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena and now Acid Factory, his direction career had come to naught, an offer like this extended by Sanjay Gupta must have been heartfelt.
Apparently, this is not the first time that Suparn is dabbling with a horror subject. As a writer of diverse films like Zameen, Chhal, Janasheen, Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai? and Karam, he has dabbled with quite a few subjects. However, horror is something that was always his first love. In fact the very first script that he wrote belonged to horror genre and it was just incidental that he didn't film one. However, with the first decade of the new millennium coming to a close, he truly believes that horror is certainly in.
"The script on which I am currently working is entirely different from the one I had written close to a decade back. However, that 'keeda' of making a horror flick remained. One man who has made a difference to my career as a writer is Stephen King. Look at the volume of work he boasts of. He has written a phenomenal 100 odd films and across genres. Can you beat that? It is people like King who make you feel so small in comparison. We lesser mortals are just starting off", says Suparn in awe.
The film is expected to roll after April 2010 and the cast along with the title would be announced in due course of time. For Suparn, the film is a huge responsibility since he has to get it just right in his third film. Any lessons learnt from his first two efforts? "Yes, quite a few lessons have been learnt but one thing is for sure that there won't be any collaboration with Mumbai Mantra", he laughs away.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Jan 2010 | 3:50 am Now, Kareena in an animated avatar! After Aamir Khan, his 3 Idiots co-star Kareena Kapoor will be the latest one to be seen as an animated character. Vidya Balan who never touches alcohol shot for special risqué number entitled 'Ibn Batuta' in Ishqiya with her co-stars Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi. Says Vidya, "We shot the song last month after the entire shooting was completed. I don't drink and I had to act sozzled along with Naseer saab and Arshad."
The track will be used in the opening and credit titles of Ishqiya.
Says Vidya, "Arshad is a fab dancer. And Naseer saab was having a ball dancing to the song Vishal Bhardwaj had composed. I think the last time he danced was for 'Oye Oye' in Tridev. But you can't tell. He's so good. Both the guys were having so much fun, and I had to join in pretending to be totally drunk."
The song came out so well that the director Abhishek Chaubhey was thinking of using it in the narrative. But since it didn't fit in, 'Ibn Batuta' will now just be part of the credit titles.
That isn't the only daredevil thing Vidya has done in Ishqiya. This has to qualify as one of the most sensuous things a mainstream Hindi-film heroine is seen doing in any movie.
In what Vidya Balan describes as the most blatant come-hither gesture she has ever seen any actress in Hindi cinema make, in Ishqiya she was required to take Arshad Warsi's thumb in her mouth and suck on it suggestively.
Each time she did so in the rehearsals, Vidya would burst into uncontrollable giggles. And Arshad would join in. Recalls Vidya, "Fortunately, Arshad is a friend. We've gotten along well from the time we did Lage Raho Munnabhai together. I don't know if I'd have been able to do a scene like putting my co-star's finger in the mouth if it was some other actor. That gesture of sucking Arshad's thumb was so raunchy and sexy, and that's so not me, I couldn't connect with it all."
That sense of non-connectivity, says Vidya, runs through her character in Ishqiya. "I play this rustic voluptuous woman. All my weight-loss happened after I did this film. I had to look filled up for this part. In Ishqiya, everything from the way I wore my saree to the way I looked at men, was alien to me. The role exposed me to a new way of interpreting a liberated woman. My character in Ishqiya may not know about feminism. But she's truly liberated."
Vidya is now looking forward to the release of Ishqiya in January. "The director Abhishek Chaubhey had to constantly keep giving me a pep talk. Quite often I was stuck because of the language and content."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 8 Jan 2010 | 3:32 am Review : Pyaar Impossible - NDTV.com

Abiding their venture into developing games with Indian context, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe launched Desi Adda: Games of India, developed by an Indian Game Development Studio, GameShastra Solutions Pvt Ltd, for the two PlayStation console formats PS2 and PSP. This is the second time Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is working with an Indian game development after the release of Hanuman, the Boy Warrior.
Desi Adda: Games of India originates from the inspiration drawn from the customary games of India on to a present-day platform. The significance about such traditional games is that it will help widen the scope both the awareness of the PlayStation as well as widen the gaming market, among the young Indians.
Desi Adda has a story mode in which the central character is a kid of Indian origin, NRI, named Avinash, who makes ups his mind to spend some time in a small Indian village. The story has all the rudiments one would come across in a retro Bollywood thriller. This plot is accompanied by visuals that look evenly fresh, with molds and scenarios that are more pertinent a decade back. The game includes various mini-games incorporated in them like Kite Flying, Dancing, Gilli Danda and Pachisi. Other mini-games showcased are Aadu Puli Aatam (Goat and the Tiger) and Kabaddi.
Dancing is a "bonus game" that can be unlocked by finishing the story mode. This mode is in reality the show-stopper of the title. This mini-game is based on a note matching format witnessed in games like Dance Mela. The game uses an amalgamation of front buttons and the D-pad. The controls were not very receptive though. Kite Flying, comes in two modes: kite fighting, where the aim is to grind down another challenging kite; and kite flying, needing you to burst a set of balloons within the given time limit. Gilli Danda, at first look, seems the most appealing of the bunch. It has you along three or four other competitors on the scoreboard. Though the game lacks a depth-perception in the graphics, the awkward and unpredictable physics of the Gilli makes it a fun experience.
The last game is Pachisi - apparent to the Mahabharata fame. It's a game played with rectangular dices, a board with squares on it and each player is represented on the board with four pieces each, Ludo of the epic times, so to be said. The game is intended to work on a blend of luck and tactics both.
But the entire package maltreats any significance and gusto in a player as it doesn't really seems to be worth the money at all. And with this launch after Hanuman, we can only sit down to wonder the extent of development of major title from our soil. But keeping the hope alive, one can only say: Maybe, and just maybe, third time will prove lucky for us...

Interviewing Salman Khan is akin to sitting on a roller-coaster ride for the first time ever; in both cases you never know what to expect. On a good day, Salman may talk nineteen to the dozen, and on an off-day, he may just decide to get up and leave mid-way. Luckily for me, Salman was in his element when I met him for an exclusive interview at Mehboob Studios. Dressed in a body hugging red tee and jeans, Sallu sat relaxed even as hordes of journos began to get restless waiting for their turn. When my turn came, the wait was worth it as Salman took off like never before speaking on his relationship with his dad Salim Khan, his favorite period films and what can easily be described as a special film of his career- Veer. Read on to find out more...
Veer as a film must be extra-special to you considering that you have written the story of the film. When did the idea of Veer first germinate in your mind?
Long time ago...in fact much before I became an actor...those were the days when I was planning to become a director.
You had earlier written the story of films like Baaghi in the nineties. What took you so long to write the film considering that it's being made now after nearly two decades?
It didn't take me long or anything like that. I wrote the basic story of Veer many years ago but during those days no one dared to make films of such a lavish scale and the writing of Veer is such that it had to be made on a large scale.
Apparently, you asked Zarine to feast on chocolates and put on some weight for this role?
Zarine was quite thin like most girls today but for her character of an Indian princess we needed someone who is slightly well-built. If you look at yesteryears' princesses, they weren't skinny; they were all hatti-katti. Hence, Zarine had to gain some weight to look the part.
Veer also stars two actors you are quite close to Mithun da and Jackie Shroff...how has it been working with them once again?
Oh! It was fantastic. I had a blast working with Mithunda and Jackieda. They are both fantastic actors. They are senior to me yet we are close friends and I must say that Mithunda is the world's best chef.
Finally ...the title Veer signifies bravery...what in your opinion is Veerta all about?
See...the basic problem with us Indians is that when we see somebody being beaten up by ten other people, we don't bother to get up and help. We say, 'Jaane Do Yaar...Kya Farak Padta Hai'. When the same thing happens to us, it becomes a matter of concern. This chalta hai attitude towards everything can be quite dangerous for the future of our country. We need people to take responsibility and stand up for their rights saying, 'This is my country and it's my responsibility to make it work.'
Do you think today's politicians are doing a good job?
Oh yes...some of them are. The second generation and third generation of politicians are really rocking. People like Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot, Milind Deora, Praful Patel, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Satyajit Singh Gaikwad and Jyotiraditya Scindia are all doing a great job.
Since you are so attached towards social issues, will we see you entering politics?

Bollywood feels proud to have such a talent in its fraternity and today (Jan 7) being this dusky doe's birthday, Bollywood Hungama wishes her many more successful ventures ahead:Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 Jan 2010 | 3:18 am Aryan Vaid plays gay superstar based on a Bollywood icon
Keep guessing. In a rather shady underproduction film called Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun, Aryan Vaid plays a happily- married Bollywood superstar who likes to sleep with male aspirants.
It's not that Aryan, now happily married to an American photo-journalist (blessedly female) is shy of naming the iconic superstar on whom his character is based.
Aryan happily names the inspiration for his gay character. "He's happily married. But it's quite often whispered that he swings both ways. My character is a closet-bisexual. But the cover is blown when the camera catches me in a bathtub with a star aspirant."
Aryan's introductory sequence has him nude in a bathtub with a wannabe star played by Kapil Sharma. "I'm supposed to be nude. But I wore my shorts. The aspirant wonders what the super-star's wife would think if she saw us together like this? The superstar replies, "Oh she knows I do this. She does her own thing. I do my own."
Ironically, the young actor who plays the aspirant in the tub is the director's brother. Aryan says Kapil Sharma had no inhibitions about getting into the bathtub and making love with the senior actor although Kapil's brother was directing it.
"Kapil was quite cool. So was Sanjay, the director, although they're brothers."
The sequence required the heterosexual Vaid to make out with Kapil. "On that very day my American wife Alexandra decided to drop in on the sets. When she saw me almost nude in the bath tub with another nude guy, she first freaked out and then burst out laughing. I shudder to think what impression she formed of our cinema."
Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun purports to be an expose on the film industry.
Bollywood seems to be shedding its skin. But the question is what is an actress of Zeenat Aman's calibre doing in a film like this?Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Jan 2010 | 3:03 am
