We saw her as the young, bubbly, youthful collegiate in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa opposite Imran Khan. Their chemistry reminded us of the Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Such was the potential and prowess shown by Genelia in her comeback film that the whole of B-town was abuzz with just one name Genelia D'Souza.
The world of films isn't new for this 20 something. She has made quite a name for herself down south and is all set to recreate her magic in the Hindi film industry as well. Keep guessing. In a rather shady underproduction film called Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun, Aryan Vaid plays a happily- married Bollywood superstar who likes to sleep with male aspirants.
It's not that Aryan, now happily married to an American photo-journalist (blessedly female) is shy of naming the iconic superstar on whom his character is based.
Aryan happily names the inspiration for his gay character. "He's happily married. But it's quite often whispered that he swings both ways. My character is a closet-bisexual. But the cover is blown when the camera catches me in a bathtub with a star aspirant."
Aryan's introductory sequence has him nude in a bathtub with a wannabe star played by Kapil Sharma. "I'm supposed to be nude. But I wore my shorts. The aspirant wonders what the super-star's wife would think if she saw us together like this? The superstar replies, "Oh she knows I do this. She does her own thing. I do my own."
Ironically, the young actor who plays the aspirant in the tub is the director's brother. Aryan says Kapil Sharma had no inhibitions about getting into the bathtub and making love with the senior actor although Kapil's brother was directing it.
"Kapil was quite cool. So was Sanjay, the director, although they're brothers."
The sequence required the heterosexual Vaid to make out with Kapil. "On that very day my American wife Alexandra decided to drop in on the sets. When she saw me almost nude in the bath tub with another nude guy, she first freaked out and then burst out laughing. I shudder to think what impression she formed of our cinema."
Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun purports to be an expose on the film industry.

Salman Khan is not supposed to be a particularly hands-on technician on the sets of his movies. Most of the time you'd find him giving his shot and moving to a corner with his cronies. But in Veer, Salman not only got down from his high horse, he even assisted the art director Sanjay Dabade (who had earlier done the art direction of Anil Sharma's Gadar: Ek Prem Kahani) and the construction workers in setting up the props, temporary buildings and architecture in London to denote the 19th century period.
This happened on more than one occasion when the natural light in London threatened to fade away. While shooting in front of the Indian embassy in London and after having acquired the permission to shoot in front of the Buckingham Palace, the art directors' team found itself running against time.
That's when Salman jumped in.
Says producer Vijay Galani, "Though Salman wouldn't want it to be known in case other unit's expect the same from him, he actively assisted Sanjay Dabade in his men in the construction work in London. See, first of all getting the permission to shoot on locations near Buckingham Palace was hard enough. Then we had to cover all the visible outward signs of modernity and replace them with props representing 1880. All this required a lot of planning and execution. We had to be very careful not to put up any architecture or props that would damage London's topography."
This is where Salman came in. Says Galani, "Salman just jumped in with the workers, maybe it was a dormant passion, but no one had ever seen this side of him. He actually assisted in the construction work on the streets of London."
Passers-by who recognized him just couldn't stop staring. "To see Salman banging wood planks with nails and hammers is not an every day sight. But then Veer is not an everyday film for Salman. He has written the story and he loves the subject and character. He grew his hair for one- half of the film. I won't name them. But some actors refused roles because they had to sport beards in Veer," says Galani.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Jan 2010 | 2:51 am Alex Reid-Jordan romance bigger story than MJ’s deathLondon (ANI): Alex Reid has claimed that his romance with glamour girl Jordan made more headlines than the death of Michael Jackson. Shahid Kapoor is controversy's favourite child. The latest is, the actor forced his CHANCE PE DANCE director Ken Ghosh to delete the passionate smooch from the film. Reportedly, Shahid felt that it wouldn't be good for his image when he saw the final cut of the film.
"I've stopped reacting to gossip," Shahid tells me. So what's the truth? "The truth is, there's no smooch in the film. It was never conceptualised, hence it was not filmed. It just doesn't exist. As simple as that," Shahid clarifies.
Meanwhile, Shahid has decided against signing any film for the time being. "I am channelizing all my energies on my father's [Pankaj Kapoor] directorial debut. We plan to begin shooting in March. That's the only film I have on hand right now," he says.
Reportedly, the film is inspired from the Tom Cruise starrer TOP GUN. "Well, the only similarity is that I play a naval officer in the film. In the past, Rajesh Khanna and Shah Rukh Khan too had played naval officers, but that doesn't mean they were inspired by TOP GUN. Dad's making a love story, which makes it entirely different from that film," Shahid states.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 6 Jan 2010 | 11:51 pm Today's media - A liberating force or a terror in disguiseThe role of media in society is that of exposing the truth and spreading awareness. Genelia D'Souza would be beginning 2010 - all set to be an eventful year for her in Bollywood - with Chance Pe Dance and one assumes that since the film looks good enough to be hitting the bull's eye, she has all the right reasons to be positive. More so because quite a few romcoms in recent times have been doing fairly well, especially with Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Love Aaj Kal and her own Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa are the biggest examples to substantiate the claim. In such market scenario, it seems like the safest bet to follow the trend and Chance Pe Dance just about fits the bill.
"That's right, but honestly I am still in the process of understanding the industry", she says in a cautious tone, "This entire gap between my earlier stint and now has taught me a lot of things. Yes, my new innings in Bollywood has been good but I still don't wish to be over confident and take success for granted."
Ask her if before signing Chance Pe Dance she checked out Ken's earlier efforts and she states in affirmation, "I loved Ishq Vishk and in fact I also liked Fida. Really, I don't know why the film didn't work at the box office. I still remember all the colours, dances as well as a good act by everyone in the film. May be it was destined that way."
A firm believer in destiny, she is also quite cautious when it comes to the box office outcome of her own films. Even though she is (fortunately) yet to encounter a flop in Bollywood with last couple of years being extremely good for her. Her Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa was a super hit, Life Partner was an average earner while Mere Baap Pehle Aap too managed to be a coverage affair. Still, her good experience down South has taught her to be firmly placed on ground.
Perhaps she has wised up after her Life Partner experience where she had almost encountered failure before a miraculous escalation in collections helped the film eventually manage a face saving outing. When released alongside with Shahid Kapoor starrer Kaminey last year, this Abbas Mustan production seemed all set to fade away into oblivion before some decent word of mouth resulted in audiences trickling in.
"I know, it was so scary", comments Genelia in that characteristic animated tone of hers, "We opened to almost nothing while Kaminey was all over. It seemed like we had lost it all but thankfully the film picked up over the next few days. It ultimately turned out to be a safe venture for all, courtesy and all around patronage that the film got from family audiences."
Meanwhile, she refuses to be drawn into the controversy surrounding Jiah Khan's exit and her subsequent entry into Chance Pe Dance. Bollywood followers would remember that Jiah was asked to leave after a substantial portion of the film was already shot. Reason stated was 'change in characterisation'.
"All I know is that the film was good, my role was good, I was getting a good setup to be a part of and there were no ugly confrontations involved. By no means was it a matter of taking over from somebody else", is all that Genelia is willing to comment.

For Sunil Shetty the year 2009 began with a terrible accident that left him bed-bound for a good three months. Bizarrely the year ended with a fire accident that scorched Sunil's hand.
"It's just about healing," says Sunil, just back from a family holiday in Bali, blessedly free of accidents.
Laughing uncomfortably Sunil says, "Yeah, it's been pretty bad. In-between I hurt my leg also. The chest injury kept me off-limits for a good part of 2009. I couldn't even exercise or go to the gym. But the worst discomfort was that I couldn't sleep properly because of the pain in my rib cage... and now this hand injury at the end of the year. Hota hai. It's part and parcel of our line of work."
However, Sunil's family isn't taking the string of accidents lightly. His wife, two children, and his parents have now strictly forbidden him from doing anything dangerous stunts in the water (De Dana Dan) or playing with fire (No Problem). Sunil has no choice but to put away all the muscle power at his disposal.
It's not that he would cease to stay fit. He'd just not do dangerous stunts. For all practical purposes his last action film for now is Anant Mahadevan's Red Alert- The War Within where Sunil plays a naxalite.
Then onwards, it's goodbye to action for one of Bollywood's biggest action heroes who started the trend of gym-toned torsos.
Chuckles Suniel, "Let the new younger boys have all the fun now. I've won the first award of my life for best actor at the South Asia International Film Festival for Red Alert. It's time to move into another phase."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 6 Jan 2010 | 4:19 am "Aamir Khan is a marketing monster " - Rajkumar Hirani
3 Idiots is now officially the biggest money spinner ever and within two weekends of it's release has displaced Ghajini from the top position. With over Rs. 100 crores nett in it's kitty just from India, the film has placed Rajkumar Hirani right up there in the top league that has filmmakers like Karan Johar, Rakesh Roshan, Aditya Chopra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Imtiaz Ali sitting pretty.
It's the simplicity factor which is being most talked about and the film has been termed as 'Hirani cinema' which is quite a compliment considering the fact that 3 Idiots boasts of superstars like Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor. In a conversation with Joginder Tuteja, Raju (as he is fondly known) explains how he put together the entire film and later Aamir Khan gave it a different dimension altogether by bringing in the entire marketing effort.
Now that the film is a huge blockbuster, one wonders if 3 Idiots was an easy film to make, especially due to the fact that you had two modern day classics (Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai) behind you?
Yes, 3 Idiots was easier and there were quite a few factors that contributed to it. I went about making the film layer by layer and by the time the script came through, we knew that we were getting into something special. Moreover, it was all also possible due to the commitment and availability of my three lead actors - Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman. They were truly focused on just this film and were not working on anything else. Boman too was completely on board from Day One.
How about Kareena Kapoor?
Of course yes, she has been a great asset to the film as well. She was in fact working on other films as well during 3 Idiots but it was nice of her to take out time and fit 3 Idiots into her schedule.
Talking about Kareena, when someone of her stature and standing in the industry gets into a project, one suddenly visualises a star out there. For you as a filmmaker, what did you want from Kareena - a star or an actor?
I wanted a real person. Period. Ever since the first promo of the film came out, people did observe that it was a very different Kareena out there. Still, there were a few who doubted if she would be seen like this in the entire film. Now that 3 Idiots has released, everyone can see that she is really deglamourised and the girl next door. You know, this was the kind of look that was always envisioned by me; someone who is simple and real. No wonder, she was made to wear spectacles (smiles).
How about taking the film by itself to a different level? I am sure given his reputation; there must have been 'creative' and 'let's-make-it-perfect' contributions as well?
But that was the case with everyone else in the cast and crew as well! In fact one thing which I make quite clear to all is that they should have a freedom of expressing themselves. Just because your first few films have worked shouldn't make the person in front of you either nervous or complacent. Do tarah ke log hote hain. Ek woh jo nervous hote hain suggestions dene mein. Others feel that chalo achcha director hai, isse to sab pata hi hoga. Now that's a dangerous situation for any filmmaker who starts believing that he is Mr. Know-it-all. Agar aap apne aap ko boss samajhne lag gaye toh ho gaya kaam!
So there wasn't any feeling of Raju being the boss of the show?
That was always the intent. I ask and rather request everyone on my sets to opine. Everyone participated and so did Aamir. And let me add that he is very good in that. His contributions do make a lot of difference.
For a change a film of Aamir is being termed as a Hirani-Aamir movie instead of just being an Aamir movie. Some shift here...
(Laughs) Well, I haven't heard that and even if this is being said then I don't really have much to say. See, when you are making a film, you hear so many things around you that you tend to shut your mind and just concentrate on getting your job done. But yes, one thing that we all have learnt from Aamir is how to market a film. He is a marketing monster.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 6 Jan 2010 | 3:56 am Shilpa and Raj Kundra have wedding reception in the House of Commons today
