Although his De Dana Dan is a hit, Priyadarshan is on the look-out for a serious image for his films with titles to match. For his next film, which is about caste wars and forbidden inter-caste marriages in Bihar, Priyadarshan wanted a title that would convey the flavour and feel of the Bihari milieu.
Priyan wanted to call the film Gangaajal, not knowing that the title had already been taken for another Bihari fable.
Says Priyan, "I thought something like Gangaajal was the best title for this film because it allowed audiences to know exactly where the plot and characters were going."
In his mind he had settled for the title as the best one for his film, until he shared it with his leading man Ajay Devgn. To his horror, Priyan was told by Ajay that Prakash Jha had already used the title. Ajay knew about Jha's Gangaajal because he had played the lead in it.
Then began the search for another title. Now Priyan's Bihar based drama is called Nishaad.
Nishaad starring Ajay Devgn, Bipasha Basu and Akshaye Khanna had been shot without a title all this while mainly because Priyan wanted the film to have a hard-hitting title.
Finally Priyan's script and dialogue writer came up with Nishaad because the director barely knows any Hindi.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 2 Jan 2010 | 4:19 am Bollywood inspires new Indo-French operaBollywood is the inspiration for the Neemrana Music Foundation's latest crossover venture - a three-act Indo-French classical opera, "If I Were King", by 19th century French composer Adolphe Adam.Source: Entertainment News | 2 Jan 2010 | 4:17 am Aamir to play painter in Dhobi Ghaat
The very versatile Aamir Khan has done it again. After playing a 20 something lad in 3 Idiots, he will now play a painter in his 2010 release Dhobi Ghaat.
This is Aamir Khan's wife, Kiran Rao's, directorial venture and sure enough Aamir is extremely pumped up about the project. The film also stars Smita Patel's son Prateik Babbar. The shoot of the film is complete and is now under post production.
In Taare Zameen Par, Aamir played an art teacher and a quite a convincing one at that. In Dhobi Ghaat though, he will be seen as a painter who lives in a small studio apartment in some congested area of Mumbai city.
Needless to say, it would be interesting to see Aamir in a very different role yet again.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 2 Jan 2010 | 4:13 am 3 Idiots row: Vidhu Vinod Chopra apologises

'Hero', a two book series, is a research paper presented in the form of a book. Otherwise how else can one explain this effort by Ashok Raj who fills in more than 800 pages in total with Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan taking over more as much as 50% of the printed words. It's text, text and sheer text that results in this voluminous outing which is presented in two volumes - 'The Silent Era To Dilip Kumar' and 'Amitabh Bachchan To The Khans And Beyond'.
To the credit of the author, he stays true to the subject. He concentrates on the 'heroes' who have made Bollywood cinema the way it has been for last 80-90 years. Right from the silent era to the cinema of today where Himesh Reshammiya is attempting to become a leading man, he covers them all and doesn't miss any notable name. It is research to the n-th limit which is put on display in this series. However, the fact is that an effort like this is best put in place for a film institute, a cinema library or academicians, not on book stands for perusal of 'aam junta'. And that's because the book is 200% literary inclined, is completely deprived of any entertainment value whatsoever and comes in such heavy duty vocabulary and sentence formation that it is more of a put off than exciting.
Really, for an average viewer, it is simplicity that works but that's not really the case in 'Hero'. In fact so many of the sentences not just make for an utterly complex read but also make the reader wonder if the author was actually eyeing any commercial success through this book or had merely written it to satiate his thirst for perfection and put forth his literary prowess.
As stated earlier, the book is primarily a literary read and pretty much acts as an encyclopaedia of Bollywood that has emerged over the decades gone by. In this context, Ashok Raj has pretty much divided it all into the Dilip Kumar and the Amitabh Bachchan phase, hence resulting in two volumes. In the process of doing so, he has not just gone through practically each and every film that they have done but also come up with a synopsis (which is anything but brief) as well as what was the input and outcome of these movies. He just doesn't leave it there. He in fact starts exploring the acting styles that the two brought and delves deeper into the art of acting, different schools being followed and the direction they provided to quite a few contemporaries and followers. Of course none of it is an easy to comprehend write-up, hence forcing a reader to take a closer look at the printed word.
There are many more complications (for a regular viewer, not a historian or a hardcore movie buff) in the offering. Ashok Raj brings in sections/chapters like 'The Eisenteinian Emotive Mechanism', 'The Essential Bulit-in Asynchronization', 'The Neo Realistic Context', 'The Anti-Hero Awaiting Redemption and Atonement', 'The Simultaneous Liberation of the Image' and many more which prove all over again that it is a paper being presented to be studied and analysed rather than a book to be read and enjoyed.
In fact so deep down Ashok Raj gets into the entire research that he goes on to present tables depicting the kind of films that Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan have done throughout their career, their classifications, their 'dominant character' and the 'genesis of character' etc. etc. Now all of this is a little too much for even a die hard movie fan. It is one thing for a film to be seen and enjoyed and other to be looked at in context of an entire social-political-cultural-economical milieu that 'Hero' series goes on and on about.
So is this series just about Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan? Not really. Ashok has in fact painstakingly gone through the entire history of Hindi film making and brought to fore popular as well as unknown heroes who have made their presence felt at one point of time or another. However, there are some glaring mistakes made as well which are hard to ignore. Like he mentions Yash Chopra as the director of Mohabbatein when the man behind the camera was actually Aditya Chopra. He claims to talk in detail about 'released' films like Right Yaa Wrong, Zamaanat, Aashayein, Love You Hamesha, Divorce: Not Between Husband and Wife when the fact is that these films starring Sunny Deol, Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham, Akshaye Khanna and Jackie Shroff respectively are yet to hit the screens.
Moreover, there are also quite a few arguable comments being made. He calls Cash as one of the highlight films of Suneil Shetty when even the man in question would hardly agree. Laaga Chunari Mein Daag is referred to as a 'powerful depiction of women's plight in today's harsh competitive world' when the fact is that the film was a huge let down mainly due to it's regressive theme. Moreover, he also tags Chandni Chowk To China as Akshay Kumar's foray into serious cinema. Need one say more!?

![]() Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 2 Jan 2010 | 3:20 am Subhash K Jha speaks about Accident On Hill Road
There's a man stuck on your windscreen! You want to scream to Celina Jaitly. But gosh, she does so much of that screaming thing herself you don't really want to add to the din in this gory tale of the raat. In fact 'Raat aur bahut sara din' could well be the title of this noisy shiver giver adapted from a B-grade Hollywood horror flick.
Celina Jaitly, spilling oomph all over as though it were running out of passion and fashion, is the curvaceous backbone of this being-bad-is-good upturned morality-tale. After having knocked down a poor pedestrian (Farooq Sheikh) who spends the rest of the movie stuck to the lady's windshield(talk about extra baggage!) the nurse(ironically in a profession that fosters healing and nurturing) spends frantic time trying to find ways to get rid of the writhing man.
Agony is the film's main ecstasy. This genre of horror cinema revels in creating acute discomfort and gruesome circumstances for the characters to a point where the audience is actually supposed to enjoy the ceaseless chill spill.
Accident On Hill Road is road rage in all its gory splendour, committed to creating a string of incidents that suggest a vicarious mayhem. Debutant director Mahesh Nair lets loose an eye-catching binge of blood and gore.
This is Celina's first real opportunity to sink her teeth into an author-backed role. She gets into her meaty role although very often she is intended to be the meat.Meet her man ka meet and tan ka meat A drug-peddler named Sid, playing with menacing aggressiveness by Abhimanyu Singh. What happened to all the noble evil-warring heroes of our films? Sid is so immoral he makes Mogambo look like a cartoon hero. After Wake Up Sid, this is 'Shake-up Sid'!
Accident On Hill Road leaves you shaken by its gore-quotient. But not quite stirred. The original Hollywood B-grader Stuck probably describes not just the physical state of the accident victim but also the psychological condition of the audience.
This Accident could've been avoided. Since it has occurred and with screeching tyres (none of them around Celina's waist) it might as well be borne. It's fun to see Celina and Abhimanyu playing a voluptuous-immoral nurse and a zonked-out sexually-aggressive drug dealer. This pair is totally freed of moral obligations.
Free idiots.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 2 Jan 2010 | 2:46 am Akshay off to Malaysia to shoot costliest commercial ever Akshay Kumar and big bucks are synonymous with each other. After (supposedly) working in the costliest film ever made on this side of the planet - Blue - Akshay is now carrying on the BIG phenomenon into the ad world as well. If industry buzz is to be believed, he would now be featuring in the costliest commercial ever made with an Indian actor. This would be for Thums Up (the soft drink for which Akshay is a brand ambassador for quite a few years now) and as is the tradition, it would be shot in foreign locales.
Says a source from the team which is busy putting together this commercial. "Pick up any commercial for Thums Up that Akshay has done and you would see him indulging in some dare devil stunts. This has been the trend for the last half a decade or so, ever since Akshay was been promoting this brand. This year it's going to be no different as the commercial would feature Akshay being a part of some breath taking stunts."
While fast cars, skyscraper jumping and running on busy roads is something that audiences have seen of Akshay in the last few commercials that he has shot for the brand, one waits to see what the actor has to offer in the first shoot that he is doing in 2010.
"It would be something that has never been seen before; that's the least which can be promised", confirms the source, "Thums Up has been the Number One soft drink in India in 2009 and has beaten other Colas in the race. It is imperative that there is further brand promotion done which would not just help it retain the position but also outrun the competition."
As per sources, the commercial which would be shot in Malaysia boasts of some unheard of money involved. Industry is pegging it at 2 crores though official confirmation is yet to come by.
"It is the costliest ever commercial for sure but I am not at authority to give you the final number", the source says, "However, it is quite close to the figure that you mention. The commercial would be worth every rupee that has been kept aside for it's shoot."
Last few weeks were spent in some active planning around the shoot which involved taking relevant permissions, especially due to some dangerous stunts being involved. With locations in place and entire crew ready on standby, the commercial is all set to be shot in the coming week.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 2 Jan 2010 | 2:33 am Mumbai top cops 'dance to mafias' tune' - Times Now.tv
