2009 is a year A.R.Rahman won't forget for a long time to come. After all, this year the music maestro won 2 Academy Awards for his score in Slumdog Millionaire. Later in the year, he even received 2 Grammy nominations for the soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire. Surely it has been a memorable year for A.R.Rahman.
The laurels however continue for Rahman even as the year comes to a close. On December 16th, A.R.Rahman was made a fellow of the world famous Trinity College of Music at a function in UK. This is yet another honour for the musical genius.
That's not all, Rahman has even been nominated for the 'Person of the Year' award by Forbes India business magazine. The talented composer finds himself in august company of personalities such as Nandan Nilekani, Chetan Bhagat, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rahul Gandhi all of whom would be vying for Forbes India's 'Person of the Year' award. The final winner will be selected on the basis of public voting.

Ha ha. There is genuine love being expressed towards him and several have unabashedly desired to take him home!
Did you expect Auro to have such a far-reaching impact on the Nation's psyche? What are some of the most memorable reactions you've had to Auro's character?
No, I never ever imagined that Auro would be picked up, caressed and so warmly embraced. It is miraculous. A description of the reactions would be odious at this moment. I do have them all stored and shall be happy to share them with you at an opportune moment.

There's a feeling of dismay when Auro dies at the end of Paa because people want more of this metaphor of the life-force. How do you plan to take Auro forward?
Yes, people want more of Auro, but I think Balki felt his presence was sufficiently enough. How he goes forward is for Balki to decide.
You abhor even a false beard. How did you bear with such elaborate prosthetics day after day?
I bore it with great resolve and fortitude.
So complete is your self-effacement in Auro's makeup that some people are actually saying that's not you, but another actor doing Auro. How do you react to that?
I take that as my greatest compliment and a triumph for the team that worked on my make up. Without them and their contribution, Auro would have remained on the drawing board.
The surprises from your repertoire continue to spill out year after year. Auro, you'll agree is a very hard act to follow. What will you do now to satiate your expectant fans?
I shall continue to work to my best. Satiation is most subjective. I do not work with the consideration of those elements in mind. My fans understand that better than anyone else. Even me.
Paa marks the renewal of AB Corp Ltd's production output. What are the other films that ABCL plans to produce?
Please do not keep up this undesired exclamation of the 'renewal' of the Company. We were always there and functioning. Maybe you did not follow its activities. Or perhaps there was not much desire in you to do so. At the moment, we have not concretised any further project under our banner, but if we were to, we would keep you informed!

I have no idea what it would be, all I know is that were someone to come up with a thought I would most certainly want to give it a try. Meanwhile, even as names of his past, present and perhaps future girlfriends continue to emerge at a break neck speed, he prays if a Vivah organized by his parents would finally settle all rumours, speculations, gossips, grapevine and idle talk once for and all.
Joginder Tuteja gets into a conversation with Shahid who has been super busy shooting for his films but is still managing to keep a close tab on the promotion of Chance Pe Dance as well as reactions to his newest on-screen partner Genelia D'Souza.

Akshay-Katrina 'jodi' is the hottest today while Saif and Kareena too are building a good brand around themselves. In such times, it is seems quite good to see a fresh pairing with you and Genelia coming together for the first time in Chance Pe Dance.
I agree. Ever since the First Look of the film came out, I have got so many messages and calls congratulating me about this new pairing. Yes, there is a certain freshness that has certainly come in due to both of us coming together. Since the film boasts of a young subject, it was imperative that Genelia and I look compatible with each other. We really had a lot of fun doing Chance Pe Dance together and with the promos and songs clicking with the audiences, I am now excited to see how they react to the entire film. Genelia has done really great work in the film and what strikes me most is that she is a heroine who can also act! I am sure we will do a lot of more movies together.

After Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, you too seem to have developed a fascination for this entire 6 pack, 8 pack abs affair?
(Laughs) Believe me; even I was surprised when I developed 8 pack abs. I was just trying to get in shape and was working out for that. However, it was during the shooting of a song for Chance Pe Dance when director Ken (Ghosh) just smiled and waved at me. He called me near the monitor and asked me to have a look at it. We had a hearty laugh because it was the camera that eventually had captured my 8 packs.
Come on, it's hard to believe. You developed an 8 pack and it's the camera which told you first about it?
I swear that was indeed the case. See, I was working out to be fit and not to get into any competition with anybody. I wasn't sitting and counting my abs. But yes, when Ken pointed this out, I did feel good about it, more so because this hadn't been planned. However, let me also clear that I am not going to live for maintaining this physique. Fit rehna important hai but for these abs, I am not going to stop eating what I want or take added strain.
Meanwhile, you seem to have developed quite a playboy image for yourself during last couple of years. It seems like you are having an affair with every leading lady that you interact with during the making of your films. Vidya Balan (Kismat Konnection), Priyanka Chopra (Kaminey) and now Anushka Sharma (yet untitled Yash Raj film) - it is indeed one enviable list. Really Shahid, what's happening?
(Laughs) Really yaar, my mummy-daddy should just find a nice girl for me and marry me off Vivah style. I guess it would be best if I go through an arranged marriage. At least talks around my so-called affairs would come to a stop. I mean ever since I went single two years back, there have been these constant talks around my relationships with fellow co-stars.
It is amusing when media breaks the news to me that I am seeing a girl. Can it be funnier than that?

Annoying would be too harsh a word. But yes, I am really aghast about the entire thing - not because of the entire pairing up thing but the fact that at least I should know if I am really going around with someone. After three successful Indipop albums, Sophie Choudry is back with her latest album that is quite cheekily titled 'Sound Of Sophie (SOS)'. Bollywood Hungama caught up with the gorgeous singer cum actress who was more than excited to share details of her latest labour of love.
Sound Of Sophie is quite an interesting title for your album. How did you come up with that?
You know...it's quite funny actually because I have been working on this album for the last 2 years and till recently, I didn't have a name for my album. I usually name my album at the very end because I believe that you need to sit back and reflect what the album is really saying about you. This album is really about the 'Sounds' I believe in and hence 'Sound of Sophie (SOS)' just seemed to be the most apt title for the album.

So what 'Sounds' are we likely to hear in this album?
As an artist I am influenced by all kinds of music right from Bollywood to hip-hop to Arabic to electro to rock. These are the Sounds that I love. The one consistent thread in the album is that all the songs are trendy and vivacious. The melodies are soulful, its very spirited but when it comes to rhythm you will find hip-hop, you will find a soft R&B song, you'll find electro, you will find an Arabic song and you will get to hear my first ever rock ballad called 'Mohabbat'.
So how many songs does the album have and who have composed the music?
There are 8 songs in the album and there is a video edit remix of the track 'Manjaave'. The special and unique thing about 'Sound of Sophie (SOS)' is that all the songs are completely original and I have produced all the songs myself. Besides I have been really fortunate to have 5 of the most talented music composers give music for this album. First up there is Rishi Rich (who has never ever collaborated with an Indian female artist before), there is Bappa Lahiri who is super talented, there is Gourav Dasgupta, there is my mentor Biddu and there is DJ Suketu. Each of these artists are renowned in their own genre of music and it's my privilege that they have collaborated with me on Sound of Sophie.

Talk us through the songs of the album.
The first song currently on air is 'Manjaave'. 'Manjaave' is quite an unusual word but it means the same as Maan Jaao. It's about this young girl trying to convince a guy to get together with her. Rishi Rich has done something unusual with this song as he has used a mix of hip-hop and reggae. The minute you hear the song you feel like grooving. The song features Rishi's new international rap artiste Mumzy along with me. He is simply brilliant. The second song is 'Mohabbat' a rock ballad composed by Gourav Dasgupta. There is 'Pump It Up' by Bappa and 'If I Can't Have You' by Biddu. There is a lovely song called 'Soni Soni' that has been created by a young composer called Sandeep. There is another song by Rishi Rich called 'Munidyan Tu Bachke Rehna' featuring Mumzy, Veronica and me and finally there is an Arabic song called 'Tu Nahin'. So there you go...it's a pretty interesting mix of songs in Sound of Sophie.
The official launch of the album takes place tonight but the video has been on air for a few days now. So how has been the response so far?
The response to the first song 'Manjaave' has been amazing. You know...it's so hard to launch a pop album at a time like this when Indipop is almost dying. All the pop singers are moving to playback, music companies are not really encouraging pop albums and even worse, music channels don't play music anymore. Music channels have become reality show channels. In this day to produce and launch an album is really tough but the amount of support and encouragement I have got from everybody has been fantastic. So I am going all out to promote it in whatever way I can be it on internet, radio or television.
All the pop singers are moving to playback, music companies are not really encouraging pop albums and even worse music channels don't play music anymore.
Finally, coming to your acting career, you were last seen in Daddy Cool where you set the temperatures soaring in that red hot bikini. Your fans would like to know about your forthcoming films.
(laughs) Yeah...Daddy Cool was good fun but unfortunately it didn't do too well at the B.O. You see⦠films give you great visibility and being a part of a big multi-starrer always helps but I don't want to be doing small parts here and there. I would love to do something which is a bit more off-beat and challenging for me as an actress. There are 2 films which I have signed which will start next year. I am still waiting for the producers to make an official announcement. Besides I have Sanjay Gupta's Alibaug which is ready for release. But to be honest...in the past six months I have been eating, sleeping and breathing Sound Of Sophie. Katrina Kaif, who was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai early this week and underwent a surgery, has now been discharged.
Katrina's official spokesperson confirmed the same but refused to elaborate further on the cause of hospitalization. "She's been advised complete bed rest for now," her spokesperson added.
What the young Bollywood star is suffering from is not yet known. The actress had been advised complete bed rest earlier as she was unwell a month ago but yet she was seen making intermittent public appearances at a wedding and the Triumph lingerie show in the past fortnight.

A birthday is something very special; a time that marks your entry into the world of the living and today is Bollywood's hottest hunk John Abraham's birthday.
John started off as a model and later progressed into the world of films with Jism in the '03 which earned him the Filmfare Best Debut Award nomination. Later John followed this with his first commercial success Dhoom the very next year. John received two Filmfare nominations, for his negative roles in Dhoom and Zinda.
More recently, John was credited with films like New York and Dostana and has some big films lined up for next year.
On this special day today, Bollywood Hungama takes the opportunity to wish John Abraham a very happy Birthday.

What would've been a routine birthday bash for Sameera Reddy on Sunday night turned out to be a very special occasion when Priyadarshan, who has just given the actress her first hit since Race in De Dana Dan, turned around and said, "You're in my next film."
Sameera who has become very close to Priyan and his wife Lizzie and in fact spends all her free time during her frequent visits to Chennai in their house is still reeling in pleasure. "I couldn't have got a better birthday gift. Firstly it turned out to be Priyan and Lizzie's marriage anniversary. So we had my birthday and their anniversary party at Shristi Behl's residence. All three of us Lizzie, Priyan and I cut a cake."
The icing on the cake was Priyan's impulsive offer. "I don't need to ask him what it is or in which film. I trust him completely. He gave me a role in De Dana Dan that did justice to my presence. This, at a time when I was desperately trying to shed my sexy image."
Not many people know this but Sameera has a secret special appearance in the Bihar based film that Priyan is shooting with Ajay Devgn, Akshaye Khanna and Bipasha Basu.
"How do you know about this?" Sameera demands to know. "So that makes it three films with Priyan. I'm really lucky to have Priyan and his wife as friends. Now when I go to Chennai is like a second home to me thanks to the work that I do. In fact my latest Tamil hit was mixed in Priyan's studio in Chennai, so the bond thickens."
Her prestigious film Nagesh Kukunoor's Yeh Husla remains stuck.
Says Sameera softly, "That's because the producers Percept have bungled. They're in a real financial mess. They owe almost everyone associated with them quite a lot of money."
Sameera herself remains solitary in Mumbai. "My sister Meghna is now married to a Greek and settled on the most exotic Greek island. My brother-in-law spoils me silly. They both love me because I convinced our conservative dad about the unlikely marital alliance."
Especially after her sister's marriage Sameera really misses a man in her life. "It gets really lonely. And I know I'm looking my best these days. Thanks to yoga, I've lost oodles of flesh. But what's the point of looking good when you've no one to admire you?"
Age may be just a number. But in Bollywood, Sameera knows her time is numbered. "At the party at Shristi Behl's, I just kept staring at Twinkle Khanna. She was glowing. She just keeps getting better with the years. The hot-and-happening Priyanka Chopra has signed up as the new brand ambassador of Asmi Jewelry. After playing herself in TVCs for a leading mobile phone company, the Bollywood actress will be again seen playing herself (model-actress) in this recently shot commercial.
The ad will be a show reel of her real life in which the feisty actress will mouth the line, "I believe everyday is a test where I must prove myself." The ad will also see Priyanka winning the Miss World title and receiving film awards.
Styled by Gavin Mingul, the actress will sport a girl next door, de-glam look and in the final shot walk up to a mirror; check out her diamond necklace and her earrings and turn to camera and say, "I believe in myself and...
