As Neha gears up for her next film Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, where she is the central protagonist, she also reflects on De Dana Dan, one of the few successes that Bollywood has seen this year. While the world believed that the film would primarily revolve around Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal due to the return of Hera Pheri team, surprisingly it was new addition Neha Dhupia who also managed to make heads turn. Quite ironical since rather than being paired opposite Akshay Kumar or Suniel Shetty, she was hobnobbing with the likes of Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor, Vikram Gokhale and Manoj Joshi.
A relatively smaller part in De Dana Dan did the trick for you. How did this happen Neha?
Well, I really don't know. This industry just continues to perplex me. After being in the industry for last 6 odd years, I had to make a choice. Do I want to be a girl who dances on screen and gives people some time to go and fetch their popcorn? Or should I be someone who entices audiences so much that they bring their popcorn well in advance to watch me act? I am happy that kind of clarity has started setting in.
It seems you are becoming a new favourite with Priyadarshan after Garam Masala, Chupe Chup Ke and now De Dana Dan.
The kind of confidence that Priyadarshan has continued to show in me over the years is a huge pat on the back. I had this hot and sexy image and while every other filmmaker wanted to put me in a bikini, he placed me in a salwar-kameez for Chup Chup Ke (which starred Kareena Kapoor in the lead). He is someone who made me believe that I could act. He was 100% confident I would be able to pull off my role in De Dana Dan quite well. I in fact remember asking him why wasn't he considering me as one of the leads in the film but he told me to trust him and wait and watch.

Akshay Kumar has a new aspiration. He wants to learn gymnastics on par with the Russian Olympics winner Ivan Ivankov.
"My favourite Olympian sportsperson is Ivan. And as I watch his skills I want to now learn it so that I could apply it to my own dancing and fights on screen. I think gymnastics are the hardest and most dangerous sports in the world. He was unbelievably graceful. Ivan's agility and power is unbelievable. I want to try for it. In India my favourite sportsperson would have to be Sachin Tendulkar."
And cricket is the sport that Akshay needs to brush up for a forthcoming film. In fact the actor has asked the star-batsman to give him tips for his role as a cricketer in a forthcoming film.
Says Akshay, "I had to ask my director for a few days off from his tight schedule of Khatta Meetha. He kindly agreed. Now I'm very, very excited to be part of something as prestigious as the Winter Olympics. I just feel the whole experience will be truly inspiring. I think this is one of the biggest happenings in my life.
"I'm going to be so proud to have so many Indians, Sri Lankans and Asians cheering for me when I run with that torch. I know a lot of Indians in Toronto because it's my second home. I've never been more excited," said Akshay before he left.
Akshay says when he got a call from the Canadian Prime Minister's office informing him that he'd be carrying the Olympian torch, the actor didn't tell anyone. "Until it happened, I didn't believe it myself. I'm very lucky to be chosen for this honour. It'd be great to be standing on the same platform as Arnold Schwarzenegger. I wondered why they chose me!"
Akshay feels it is work for Special Olympics (physically challenged sportspersons) that did clinch the Olympian torch in his favour. "When it comes to sports, I've taken up a lot of responsibilities. When I joined Special Olympics three years ago, we had 1.5 lakh special athletes. Today we have 5 lakh athletes. Also I'm deeply connected with Canada. Toronto is like my second-home. I do a lot of charitable work. I even have a cancer ward in my father's name in a hospital in Toronto. I had taken my father for treatment to Toronto and they looked after him really well."
Looking back on 2009, Akshay says, "It was not a professionally rewarding year work-wise. But I am happy with De Dana Dan. Next year, I'll try my best to better myself. In 2010, I've Housefull and Action Replayy, all commercial cinema. My New Year resolution is to only do films that will entertain audiences."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 16 Dec 2009 | 2:54 am Ajith fans' protesting mood worries Asal team!Asal movie team is preparing to give the final cut to the film and its producer is busy with its audio release function. Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 15 Dec 2009 | 3:20 am Rohan Sippy gets Abhishek to look as Goan as possible
Abhishek Bachchan currently shooting in Goa for Ashutosh Gowariker's period film Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se is using his spare time to cruise the beaches and cafes to understand how the Goan underbelly works. He's also trying to pick up Portuguese and Konkanese for the character of the drug-busting cop he plays in Rohan Sippy's film.
Since a lot of the film is to be shot on the crowded streets and beaches of Goa, director Rohan Sippy will construct sets whenever actual Goan locations would be impossible to shoot.
Since Rohan Sippy's next directorial venture is about drug-peddling in Goa the filmmaker, lately married, is looking at a cast that can look as Goan as possible.
The actors are being chosen on the basis of their ability to fit into the Goan ambience.
Says Rohan, "I want to get into the cinema-verite (French term for realistic cinema) with this film. I'm deeply inspired by the realistic style used in Steven Soderberg's Traffic and even District 9, though that's not at all the space I'm entering in my new film. Even my crime caper Bluffmaster was shot on actual locations. But now I want to capture the real Goanese ethos and spirit. And for that I need my actors to act, look, behave, dress and speak like Goans."
Abhishek Bachchan is the only actor who has been finalized. "We're in talks with others including Prateik Babbar. But no one except Abhishek has been finalized. Like I said I want actors who can look like authentic Goans," informs Rohan.
It has been more than four years since Rohan Sippy directed Bluffmaster. "Why only that? I've directed only two films in seven years. Now my writer Sridhar Raghavan has written three scripts that I'd like to direct. Hopefully, I'd like to make up for the lost time."
Speaking shyly on his new wife for the first time Rohan says, "She was the line producer for my production Chandni Chowk To China and also on board for Arjun Rampal's production. She's a very private person and doesn't like me discussing her in public."
By the way, there's no Aishwarya with Abhishek Bachchan in Rohan Sippy's untitled film. "The minute I think of a project I think of both of them in the cast. Though my new film has a couple of strong female parts, Aishwarya doesn't fit in," says Rohan sadly.
Aishwarya has her own Goan tale coming up in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish .So she needn't feel left out.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Dec 2009 | 2:25 am
