Abhishek rushes to Dubai for Big B's felicitation at Dubai Film Festival

Abhishek Bachchan It was just a 4-hour visit to Dubai for Abhishek Bachchan on Wednesday (9 December). But what the heck! Anything for Pa. And we do mean Pa with one 'a'. Abhishek air dashed to Dubai not for the screening of their film Paa, but to cheer his dad who received lifetime-achievement award at the Dubai International Film Festival on Wednesday. Says a close friend of Abhishek, "It doesn't matter to Abhishek how many lifetime achievement awards his father gets. Each one is equally special. And he will make it a point to be present for each one." Abhishek was shooting non-stop for Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelen Hum Jee Jaan Se in Goa. He took a day off from the premiere. And now for Dubai. Says the friend, "Since Abhishek's flight to Dubai was from Mumbai, he first had to fly from Goa to Mumbai then to Dubai and back through the same route to join Ashutosh's crew in Goa on Thursday." Abhishek was in Dubai for barely four hours, just long enough to see his father receive the life-time achievement. "I had to be there, that's it," says Abhishek. The one member of the Bachchan family who has been burning the midnight oil for Paa is Abhishek. Even while shooting in Goa, he was overseeing all the premiere plans in Mumbai making sure the invitees were not left out. Says Abhishek's friend, "Aishwarya was so busy shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, she just couldn't devote enough time to the Paa premiere preparation. Abhishek took charge from Goa, opened a makeshift AB Corp office in Goa." The young actor now intends to take charge of the family's production plans fully. A number of new films from AB Corp Ltd are expected to be announced in the next few months. And Abhishek will be the production company's visible face.

Bihar CM announces financial aid for two progeric brothers after watching Paa

Paa Spurred by the poignant story of Auro in Balki's Paa Bihar's chief minister Nitish Kumar has announced financial aid for the two Bihari progeric brothers Eqramul and Ali Hussein. Balki is delighted by the impact of the film. "Now that's the kind of story one likes to hear about Paa. But let me repeat we did not make Paa to spotlight Progeria." However, distancing the film and its content from the disease seems to be getting progressively difficult. The Progeria Research Foundation in the US is now showing a keen interest in Paa. Says Balki, "I'd be only too happy for them to watch the film and decide how Paa could spread awareness about Progeria. Once members of the Progeria Research Foundation watch Paa, later this month, the director intends to take his film further as a progeric vehicle. Balki is amused by all the attacks on the Progeric theme that have come from within the industry. A very prominent director says, "That isn't how a Progeria patient looks. Balki has made Mr Bachchan look like a rubber doll." Balki can't stop laughing. "I'm glad my film has made the whole industry experts on Progeria. But the fact of the matter is, we know exactly what Progeric kids look like. Amitji and I watched dozens of film clippings to understand the way Progeric children look and behave. And Amitji got it dead-on."

A snowy New York Christmas for Ranbir & Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor For the first time in the history of Indian cinema, New York, including the completely forbidden Rockfeller Center's Christmas tree, will be shot during Christmas time by director Siddharth Anand in Anjaana Anjaani. Elaborate plans have been made and producer Sajid Nadiadwala has got all the necessary permission to shoot in forbidden areas of New York where cameras are not allowed during the festive season. Informs Anand, "Shooting in downtown New York during Christmas time is completely prohibited. We won't only be shooting in and around New York at Christmas time but we'll also be shooting the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Centre which is the tallest Christmas tree in the world. The tree there is 70 feet tall. That's equivalent two, three storey of a building." Any kind of film shooting around the Rockefeller Christmas tree is strictly forbidden. Apparently, producer Nadiadwala got his friend Sylvester Stallone (who worked in Nadidawala's Kambhakkht Ishq) to pull some strings for the rare permission. Says director Siddharth Anand, "I don't know how Sajid did it. But he managed the near-impossible. Priyanka, Ranbir and I are very excited about it." Siddharth Anand is hoping for snow in New York. Without it, the whole carefully-planned concept of the lead pair Ranbir and Priyanka bringing in Christmas in New York would fall flat. Says Siddharth, "Yeah we're praying for a white Christmas in New York." Ranbir who shot in artificial snow for Saawariya and also assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Black which again had artificial snow is excited about the White Christmas in NY. "My wife Mamta is styling Ranbir. He'll be dressed the way New Yorkers from West Village are. Very trendily in jackets, scarves, coats and woollens. We'll show Ranbir and Priyanka cruising the brightly lit-up streets of NY during Christmas. You'll see them shopping on camera. And that would be real Christmas shopping."
