If Abhishek Bachchan has carried his dad playing the progeric Auro piggyback in Paa, Vidya Balan had to carry another actor playing the same character's younger version.
The problem was, the physically-challenged 3-foot actor was almost the same weight as Vidya. She tripped and fell while doing the scene.
His name is Little Kiran. But he's anything but little age-wise. Though height-challenged 3-feet nothing, Little Kiran who has played parts in a number of Hollywood films including segments of Narnia, The Lord Of The Rings and Star Trek was brought to Mumbai to play Vidya Balan's progeric son at a younger age than the Big B.
It was when the shooting started that the director Balki suggested she carry him piggyback, the way Abhishek carries the older Auro later in the film.
Says Vidya, "At first the idea of carrying a 53-year old man who happened to be a very warm and talented Gujarati artiste from London was very discouraging. But when you're doing a film that you know somewhere is creating an unprecedented world, you tend to get defiant as an actor."
Vidya recklessly agreed to carry a man who was older than her and almost the same weight. In doing so she tripped and fell and suffered an acute back-ache for a long time.
But it was all worth it.
Says Vidya, "It's a passing shot. But I don't think any actress in the world has done it. Carried a 53-year old man playing her son. But then which other actress my age gets to play Mr Bachchan's mother?"
Vidya says she might have hesitated in playing a mom if it was to a real child. "But with Mr Bachchan it was a straight yes."
The effort has paid off. On Saturday night Vidya's family saw Paa for the first time along with the Bachchans. "And my sister Priya howled all through. To her I'll always be the little baby of the family and she the protective Didi. She couldn't believe the trauma of a mother that I was projecting in Paa."
Be shocked if you like, but Vidya with all her nurturing personality can't get along with kids in real life. "If I hold a baby for a while I get stressed. In Heyy Babyy, the baby would bawl every time I had to carry it. In Paa I had to mother a man who was far older. It took a lot of getting used to. The fact that Mr Bachchan kept referring to me as 'Maa' as soon he entered the sets, sure helped."
And now Vidya goes straight into playing his daughter in Sanjay Leela Bhansali-produced Chenaab Gandhi.
"Isn't that amazing? It takes a lot of getting used to. But I feel blessed. I'm done with trying to be someone I am not. I went through a period of tremendous turmoil when I was struggling to do roles that didn't come naturally to me. But now in hindsight I think that confusion helped me pick Paa, Ishiqya and Chenaab Gandhi. It's gratifying to know today directors think of me for specific roles and not just as one of many choices."
A lot is being said about Vidya's aesthetic clothes in Paa. "All thanks to Sabysachi Chakraborty. I think he understood my body language and my personality perfectly. And he dressed me up beautifully without overstepping the parameters of my character."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 8 Dec 2009 | 2:36 am "Working with Big B is humbling experience" - Vidya Balan

Source: Entertainment - Google News | 8 Dec 2009 | 12:25 am The final quarter has enlivened the hopes of the industry
Is the tide changing for better? Looks like! The last quarter of every year is most crucial, what with Diwali and Christmas being celebrated towards the final quarter of the year. This year was no different, with several biggies getting released in October and November.
WAKE UP SID and ALL THE BEST [in October], AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI, 2012 and DE DANA DAN [in November] and PAA [in the first week of December] have infused oxygen in the lungs of an ailing industry. While APKGK and 2012 are supreme hits, DE DANA DAN is scoring well at single screens. In fact, the second weekend of DDD has been equally strong in several circuits - Rajasthan Rs. 40.30 lacs, Bengal Rs. 18.73 lacs, Nizam Rs. 21 lacs, C.P. Berar Rs. 37.6 lacs, Mysore Rs. 18.61 lacs and C.I. Rs. 29.65 lacs.
As for PAA, the Monday business has been strong too. In fact, better than Friday at several screens. Here's hoping ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR, AVATAR and 3 IDIOTS end the year on a prosperous note.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Dec 2009 | 12:18 am Tiger linked to 10 women as questions mount over crash - Hindustan Times
Source: Entertainment - Google News | 8 Dec 2009 | 12:13 am Milap Zaveri's directorial debut 'Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai' is embellished with good music
Milap Zaveri has been associated with several big-budget films in the capacity of a writer. His work in some comedies especially has come in for all-round appreciation. Now Milap is ready to essay a new role - director. His directorial debut, titled JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI, starring Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Ruslaan Mumtaz and Sonal Sehgal, is complete and awaiting an early release.
You would expect Milap's debut film to be a laughathon, but JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI is a romantic film with a lilting musical score. This writer had the privilege of watching four songs from the film and one must add, the tracks [composed by Sajid-Wajid and penned by Sameer] are not only tuneful, but also well filmed.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Dec 2009 | 12:04 am Ananth Mahadevan spells out reasons for casting Suniel Shetty

Suniel Shetty has never worked in a realistic film, but he's winning accolades for portraying the role of a farmer caught between naxals and police/government in RED ALERT - THE WAR WITHIN, directed by Ananth Mahadevan for producer T.P. Aggarwal. What prompted Ananth to cast Suniel in a serious, realistic, unconventional film?
"That's what Suniel asked me," Ananth recalls, "I distinctly remember, Suniel was perplexed when I offered him a 'solo hero' film. But when he read the story, he realized RED ALERT was not one of those films that he had been associated with in the past."
Suniel gradually became serious when he started preparing for the role. "He shed all those attributes he's known for and slipped into the role of Narsimha. I feel vindicated now that Suniel has won acclaim and awards for his performance at various international festivals," Ananth states.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Dec 2009 | 12:01 am Claudia Ciesla loves draping the Banarasi sareeClaudia Ciesla has worn and posed for photo sessions, print catalogues and the like in the Benarasi, Rajasthani, Marwari, Maharashtrain (koli), Bengali, Kashmiri, Lucknowi and you name it sarees.Source: merinews: Entertainment News Articles | 7 Dec 2009 | 11:51 pm Salman Khan a great fan of Bigg Boss! Our source tells us that once the Bigg Boss goes on air each evening, Sallu bhaiya tries to catch up wherever he is. From the Ramayan to Rahman, that's the journey that according to Gulzar saab, the phrase 'Jai Ho' has made. "It's not as if I coined it on the spot for Slumdog Millionaire," says Gulzar saab after hearing that 'Jai Ho' has been nominated on Thursday in prestigious category of 'Best Song Written For A Motion Picture' at the Grammys.
"'Jai Ho' is a term that is as ancient as it is sacrosanct. I would sound extremely foolish if I took any credit for that phrase or for the success of that song. The entire credit must go to Rahman and Rahman alone. He has taken our popular sounds to an international level."
On hearing of his song 'Jai Ho' being nominated for the coveted Grammy, the song's writer Gulzar saab makes a startling observation and suggestion. "Both me and Rahman have done work that has been like before. What makes 'Jai Ho' special was that it was part of a non-Indian film. Slumdog Millionaire is not an Indian film. Just like Gandhi was not. We need to understand that international recognition comes to us when India is packaged into a non-Indian vehicle. Slumdog Millionaire could vie for mainstream American and European awards because it was an international film. Otherwise our films like Neecha Nagar, Mother India, Do Beegha Zameen and the films of Mrinal Sen and Satyajit Ray have been nominated in the 'foreign' categories." Gulzar saab has a suggestion. "Let's have a category for best foreign cinema in our National awards so that we too have a chance to recognize films made outside India."
As for 'Jai Ho' acquiring a life much longer than the film, Gulzar saab says, "When I wrote 'Jai Ho' I was looking for a phrase that would best represent Indian sentiments. That it's now gone from the Oscars where movies are honoured, to the Grammys where music gets recognized, is an amazing journey for 'Jai Ho'. Like I said it's from the Ramayan to Rahman. I will take no credit for it."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Dec 2009 | 7:36 am Deepika Padukone endorses fairness creamBollywood actress Deepika Padukone has become the brand ambassador of Johnson and amp; Johnson's new fairness cream and says Neutrogena Fine Fairness cream is a multi-purpose product.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 7 Dec 2009 | 7:06 am It's time to honour foreign films with National Award: GulzarThe song 'Jai Ho' from 'Slumdog Millionaire' has been nominated in the best song category at the Grammy Awards. It's the Ranbir Kapoor wave. Saawariya is a thing of the past and suddenly the nation has woken up to the emerging superstar who has not just delivered two back to back successes (Wake Up Sid, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani) but also found a certain respectability coming his way as an actor.
Belonging to those rare breed of newer generation actors who have also found being hailed as stars in their initial efforts itself (Hrithik Roshan is the last big name that comes to the mind), Ranbir Kapoor today finds himself in a comfortable position in the industry. With Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year coming up next and all set to be a success, courtesy names like Shimit Amin (Chak De India, Ab Tak Chappan) and Yash Raj involved, he must be a little relieved, right?
"Yes, I am and mainly due to the fact that Rocket Singh.... experience has taught me something which is that one can never be over and above a film. In totality, one has to look at the kind of respect that the film gets. I am sure Rocket Singh... will get all the respect that it deserves", he says in a confident tone.
Given the fact that the director at the helm of affairs is none other than Shimit Amin who gave Shah Rukh one of his most respected characterisation ever in Chak De India, what is Ranbir's view about Rocket Singh...?
"I can proudly say that Rocket Singh... is not just my greatest film till date but also one of the greatest films made in the recent times. Believe me, it belongs to a different world altogether", he states positively.
Coming up next is Rajneeti which seems like an altogether different outing for Ranbir when compared to the three releases he has enjoyed in 2009. Happy to have found himself in this glorious period where different films are being made? "Of course and the best part is that all these films are like chalk and cheese and have shaped up quite well", says Ranbir.
Meanwhile these are hectic times for Ranbir. He has been virtually promoting Wake Up Sid, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Rocket Singh... back to back. He was also busy wrapping up the shoot of Ranjeeti while also participating in the overseas schedule of Siddharth Anand's Anjaana Anjaani with Priyanka Chopra in the middle of it all. Given the fact that recently even Amitabh Bachchan commented that promoting a movie is tougher than shooting, does he too believe in the saying?
"Ask me", he smiles, "No really, it is no fun. Thankfully both Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem... succeeded, so it means that I continued to talk about them even after their release. Now there is Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year arriving in a few days so I guess there is still no time for rest. Thankfully, shooting for Anjaana Anjaani acted as a breather of sorts."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Dec 2009 | 2:53 am "Ranbir & Priyanka hardly knew one another before the shooting" - Sajid Nadiadwala
After the lukewarmly received Kambhakkht Ishq producer Sajid Nadiadwala is making another super-expensive film Anjaana Anjaani being shot all over the world.
To his surprise the lead pair Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, both riding high at the box office, offered to keep their fees at the most reasonable level.
Says Sajid, "Ranbir and Priyanka were already part of our extended family. When Ranbir's father Chintuji was working in my dad's production Hathyar, I was an assistant. That's when I got to know Chintuji and his family. Priyanka has been family from the time she did Mujhse Shaadi Karogi for my banner. So yes, they've certainly not hiked their price just because they are super-saleable today. In fact they didn't even discuss money with me."
The crackling chemistry between the duo was evident in Bangkok. Says Sajid, "Both Ranbir and Priyanka have changed their looks for this film. They hardly knew one another before the shooting. So they're getting to know each other as their on-screen romance progresses. Ranbir is entertaining on screen. But he carries that sense of fun from the screen to the sets. Priyanka was in her own shell to begin with. But her resolve didn't take long dissolve."
If everyone thought producer Sajid Nadiadwala was done with Sylvester Stallone, here's the surprise element. Stallone who played a cameo in Nadiadwala's last film Kambhakkht Ishq is now a part of the Nadiadwala family circle. Sajid Nadiadwala is certainly not done with Stallone after Kambhakkht Ishq. We don't work that way in our production house. Our bonds are for keeps," says Sajid.
Sajid's elder son Subhaan is a huge Stallone fan. The boy has kept in touch with his idol long after Kambhakkht Ishq came and went. And as producer and his crew head to the USA for shooting, Subhaan accompanies them with one express purpose.
"Subhaan is coming with us only to meet Stallone. To call him Stallone's fan would be an understatement. He isn't a fan, he's a fanatic. His day starts with Stallone's signature song 'Eye Of The Tiger' from Rocky. He knows every trivia associated with Stallone."
Sajid heads with his son for the US with an appointment with Stallone who may also make an appearance in the Ranbir-Priyanka starrer Anjaana Anjaani.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 Dec 2009 | 2:15 am Varma replaces 'Jana Gana' with 'Vande Mataram' in 'Rann'Ram Gopal Varma has replaced controversial song "Jana Gana Mana Rann" with the "Vande Mataram" in the final cut of his forthcoming movie "Rann" and says that the track will play in the background.Source: Entertainment News | 7 Dec 2009 | 1:41 am
