Is Ajay Devgn's Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge a remake of License To Wed?

One look at a working still from Ajay Devgn, Konkona Sen and Paresh Rawal starrer Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge? and you are instantly reminded of License To Wed, an American film that was released a couple of years ago. Right from the bedroom setting to the body language of the three principal characters (Robin Williams, Mandy Moore, John Krasinski) - it's a case of an inspiration going a little too far. While in Atithi... , it's Paresh Rawal who is the centre of attention (literally), in License To Wed it is Robin Williams who seems to be having all the fun as he comfortably places himself on the bed. So, is the inspiration restricted only to the poster or is the story based on similar lines as well? Kumar Mangat, producer of Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge? refutes the allegation, "First and foremost what we have released is not the First Look or a poster from the film; it is just a working still from a song that we have shot. Moreover, we have just been inspired from the poster of License To Wed. Beyond that, there aren't any more similarities." Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge? is the story about an unwanted guest who enters the household of a married couple and lives for a long duration by continuously extending his stay. So much so, that the couple is exasperated and starts praying for his exit. While Ajay Devgn and Konkona Sen play the part of a married couple, Paresh Rawal is the uninvited guest. On the other hand License To Wed, the film which was a moderate success in spite of being panned by critics, is the story of John and Mandy, a much in love couple, who go through a marriage preparation course, as suggested by Reverend Frank (Robin Williams). However, Frank makes their love life miserable as he demands chastity, bugs their apartment, initiates arguments, has them care for robot twins, creates friction and raises doubts. As is quite apparent, the storyline of both Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge? and License To Wed is quite different. Apparently, Kumar Mangat was inspired by a real life incident at his own place when a guest refused to leave him for a long duration. "This happened a year back", laughs Mangat when reminded of the incident, "We were glad to have him home. However, it became a pain of sorts when he didn't seem to be budging at all. It was amusing to begin with but later it all turned really frustrating. Meanwhile, Ashwani (writer and director of the film) also came up with the story idea of Atithi... and we decided to make a full fledged feature film." Incidentally, germ of Atithi.... is in a story titled Tum Kab Jaaoge Atithi which was penned by noted satirist Late Sharad Joshi. However, Mangat has purchased rights of the story. With lyrics by Irshad Kamil and music by Pritam, Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge? is all set for a 26th February release.

"I thought I was hallucinating... why would Shilpa show up in my room?" - Adnan

Adnan Sami Adnan Sami in hospital all of last week for stones in his gallbladder was startled when Shilpa Shetty stormed into his hospital room to invited him for her wedding reception. ''I don't care how many stones you have inside you. Just make sure you're there on Tuesday,'' Shilpa said before Adnan could react to the beauty who had appeared in his pained condition. Chuckles Adnan, ''I thought I was hallucinating in my drugged state. Why would the bewitching Shilpa suddenly show up in my room? Only later did I get to know her father was in the same hospital for suspected malaria. But it was very sweet of Shilpa to invite me.'' Now Adnan intends to drag himself to Shilpa's wedding reception on Tuesday. ''I owe it to her, never mind the pain. I've gotten used to it.'' For Adnan besieged by domestic crises for the last one year beginning with marital problems and illnesses culminating in his father's death, the gall-bladder surgery has been the last straw. ''It was red-hot deja vu. I was back at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital where I had spent so much of my time earlier this year nursing my father. It was eerie. But now I'm recovering well. My mom, brother and son are here to look after me.'' Adnan's music recordings had to be cancelled last week. ''I had been ignoring the growing pain. I paid for it.''

Veer promo launch mimics 3 Idiots?

Aamir Khan the perfectionist has been setting the trend for quite some time now, the latest being the fashion in which he unveils his films and following in his footsteps is the Salman Khan starrer Veer. Eros will be holding a press conference tomorrow where the promos of the film will be unveiled. Producer Vijay Gilani confirms the development. "Yes we will be having a press conference on the 25th of November wherein we will be unveiling the film as well as the promos." When asked about following Aamir's style of publicising films, he says, "No. I am not following him. In fact I don't even know what was done to unveil 3 Idiots, this concept I had planned a long way back." Gilani adds, "Once the promos are launched, we will have a four minute promo of Veer run during every screening of De Dana Dan, scheduled to play at every theatre and multiplex that has the De Dana Dan prints." Salman, whose film Veer releases on January 22 next year, has also launched the film's blog today. Though the launch was a quiet one sans the usual flamboyance, it remains special. "You see today is Salman's dad Salim Khan's birthday, so he has planned this like a sort of gift to his father since the film is also based on a father-son relationship." The unique aspect here is that Veer has been scripted by Salman Khan himself. After years of research, Salman inked the story of what was to be his "dream project", which is also being touted as one of the biggest Bollywood films ever made. The film is set in the era of 1880 and is based upon the love story of a warrior "Veer" played by Salman himself and his clan of barbaric warriors "Pindharis", who were fearless warriors of the 19th century. While the story is written by Salman Khan, the screenplay and dialogues have been given by Shaktimaan and Sailesh Verma.

"Abhishek was adamant to make Paa in Rs. 15 crores" - Big B [Part 2]

Amitabh Bachchan Almost half way into the interview I see something quite rare. Amitabh Bachchan elated, happy, smiling. Not that he doesn't smile, but this time it was a rare one. I've always wondered why we haven't tagged him the sexiest man alive in the world. But all across the globe Amitabh Bachchan is better known as the 'hero'. Hero of Indian cinema, hero of millions of people. That's what he's good at, mixing ordinariness, even haplessness, with luck and strength that comes out of nowhere. The winner against the odds. He's not showy or glossy. He doesn't package or sell himself. He once said empathy was not a talent but a disposition. All of the above may have combined to make him one of the best Indian heroes of all time. With Paa, he is re-introducing himself as a hero...a thirteen year old one. With thousands of people who pray for his good health, good films and good family every second, here's one wish which we make today for him - We pray that he remains like Auro - charming, cheerful and cute. Over to Big B! Did Auro seep into your daily life? I mean, has he changed you as a person Mr. Bachchan? Firstly, it's this whole process of putting the make up on which is harsh. There are eight different layers to my make up in the film. I cannot eat and talk for four hours of applying make up. Then after I finish the shot, it takes two more hours to remove it. It's tasking. Ninety percent of the performance comes out because of the make up. There is a certain innocence about Auro and a certain brightness about him as well which is very infectious. It would be nice for all of us if we all are like Auro. Sometimes it's good not to know something. When you reach a certain age, you feel hesitant to question because you are under the impression that you know the answer. But I think it's important in life to question even if you don't know something. It may be a bit embarrassing but there is no harm in admitting that you don't know. In that aspect, I think I'm more inquisitive in wanting to know. If you were to come up with a word that I would not understand, I will not pretend that I already know it. So I have changed as a person, haven't I? Ninety percent of the performance comes out because of the make up What makes Paa intimidating? Paa isn't intimidating at all. It's a fun film, a very happy film. It's a regular story. You mentioned you had moist eyes after watching Abhishek perform in Guru. What have you to say about this rising genius who is getting better with age and each film? Abhishek has a huge amount of potential. I'd love to see him in film after film. I don't know whether it's a choice which is deliberate but he has always tried to play different roles and as varied as possible without sticking to one genre. He could very well keep on doing the Bunty Aur Bubli or Dostana types of roles but he has always experimented, whether it's Yuva, Guru, etc. I like to see change. It's good for an actor to keep on doing that. I envy that Abhishek got a role like Guru. At his age, I never got that opportunity. Amitabh Bachchan Balki makes films from a different perspective. Do you feel you have managed to achieve new skills as an actor from the time you've worked with him? Balki is a fairly laid back and a relaxed sort of a human being. Because he comes from the advertising world, he knows exactly what it is that is going to catch the attention of the audience. I've always found him not too dramatised. He is very normal and allows the situation to seep in rather than what the actor's impression of the situation is. Balki is calm and composed. He keeps correcting me all the time which is wonderful as there is a kind of uniformity in the performance. As you rightly said that he is not the usual kind of film director. This is the 1st time Abhishek is acting in an AB Corp production. Let's play a role reversal here. How excited is the father? Abhishek isn't just playing the role in the film as an actor but he was also responsible for the entire production of the film. That's a moment of great pride for me because I see him handling all the affairs and matters and working in the film. It was his suggestion and his conformation to make Paa in a limited budget. He was adamant that he wanted to make this film in not more than Rs. 15 crores. I am very happy that we are able to finish the film in Rs. 14.75 crores which is a huge achievement. Abhishek was adamant that he wanted to make this film in not more than Rs. 15 crores They say premières have become a thing of the past in our industry. But let me ask you this important question. How vital is a film's première? Or is it any different? There are various aspects to a premiere. It could be a moment of celebration for the entire cast and crew who have worked hard towards making a film, and now want to share that happiness with the people that they care for. Premieres are the coming of togetherness of the entire film industry. We are proud that this is our field, this is our wealth, this is our people and look what we did. With the electronic media and the print media and the broadcast who are so interested in the lives of the celebrities that premieres becomes an occasion for them. It does garner a lot of attention. Other celebrities talk and comment on the film, so yes, it does help to build up an atmosphere for the film. It's wonderful to have premieres. I'm delighted that there has been a spontaneous affinity to Auro and the promo. Auro is a likeable person and I hope audiences like him What was the stand out moment for you when you went to produce Paa? There was never any doubt about the quality of the product that we were wanting to make. In fact, the idea of wanting to produce the film came from Abhishek because he believed that if the two members of the family who own a company called AB Corp Limited and who are also working in the film together, they can produce a film too. We had to fight for it a bit but eventually we both agreed to produce it and Paa is now our property. How emotional a journey is Paa for you as an audience when you see Auro having progeria? I hope the audiences identify with Paa, and judging from just sixty seconds of his first exposure to the audience, I'm delighted that there has been a spontaneous affinity to Auro and the promo. Auro is a likeable person and I hope audiences like him. Click here to read Part 1 of Amitabh Bachchan's interview on Paa

"The Towering Inferno inspired climax is the highlight of DDD" - Suniel Shetty

The Hera Pheri team is back. Or rather, Suniel Shetty is back. After an ordinary 2008 that saw the release of a delayed Mr. Black Mr. White, a special appearance in Mission Istanbul (which was also produced by him) and a guest appearance in Mukhbiir, the man seemed to have gone into an oblivion. The only silver lining was One Two Three where he was clearly the star of the show. With comedy working most for the versatile actor who has been around for close to a couple of decades now, he appears to be all over today with first Daddy Cool and now De Dana Dan round the corner. In addition, international recognition is coming his way as well - courtesy an award for the Best Actor in Red Alert - The War Within. Moreover, future looks good too with Anees Bazmee's No Problem lined up for next. Clearly, a lot is happening for Suniel Shetty who, in a conversation with Joginder Tuteja, talks about the wonderfully shot climax of De Dana Dan, his chemistry with Akshay Kumar and his future plans with Priyadarshan. Talking about De Dana Dan, what really is the relevance of a title like this? I think the title works most because it goes with the pace of the film. Due to its subject, it really makes sense because there are as many as 26 characters who are into a De Dana Dan mode. What makes it further exciting is that only 3-4 of them are acquainted with each other while everyone else is seemingly looking for someone else. It is a mad story. The promos seem to have done the trick too... Ya, I have been getting great feelers. See, the thing is that when a director gets the right producer and a good star cast, everything falls into place quite well. Everyone is inspired enough to go all out in making the film a reality. Moreover, the beauty of De Dana Dan is that it is an original story. It is neither inspired from any source nor is it a remake. The beauty of De Dana Dan is that it is an original story. It is neither inspired from any source nor is it a remake I have also heard that the film's climax is shot like Titanic with gallons and gallons of water around. Do you wish to elaborate upon that? Titanic was tragic and it was set on a ship. De Dana Dan climax is more like the one we saw in Hollywood's The Towering Inferno (1974). Since in that film, a 100 storey building catches fire, a million gallon water tanks at the top of the building is let loose so as to extinguish it. Similarly, in De Dana Dan too an entire hotel is flooded with water when a tank at the top of the building opens up. However, while in he Towering Inferno it was intentional, in De Dana Dan it is by accident that leads to a riotous laugh fest. Entire hotel gets submerged and it seems like a river flowing through the hotel. In De Dana Dan too an entire hotel is flooded with water when a tank at the top of the building opens up Seems like good fun... Oh, you have to see the last 10 minutes of the movie to believe it. Since most of the characters are looking for something while being underwater, you would see them swimming and floating around. It is only when everyone reaches the reception at the ground level does the journey end. Coming back to the film and its actors, one would have expected that the return of Hera Pheri team would be with quite some fanfare. However, this time around everyone seem to be underplaying De Dana Dan. Why is that so? That's by intention. This movie is special and we all know that it will really work with the all, especially family audiences. There isn't any humour that you would be embarrassed of or lines that are double meaning. The film is pure comedy which can be seen with a grandson as well as grandfather. You won't cringe in your seat or feel like fast forwarding anything. When so much is seemingly correct in the film, you tend to become a bit superstitious to talk about it day in and night out. I am scared because whenever I have talked too much about a film, something has gone wrong. This is the reason why I chose to be quiet all this while. When we go back to Hera Pheri, it was a clear two hero film with both you and Akshay having equal prominence. Do we see something similar in De Dana Dan as well where there is no case of a first lead or a second lead? This is for the first time when I have said that please watch the film and see for yourself the chemistry between Akki and me and the way we have performed. Especially the scenes between Akki and me are a riot; they are so natural. Beyond that, as I said earlier, I don't really want to go gaga in advance. This movie is special and we all know that it will really work with the all, especially family audiences You have been one of the favourites with Priyan and after Hera Pheri, he has repeated you in number of films like Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar, Hulchul, Chup Chup Ke and now De Dana Dan. Have you ever felt like approaching him and saying - 'Ok, lets make an author backed film with me in the lead?' I am especially fond of Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar and it is actually one of my favourite movies. Unfortunately, it was ahead of it's times and people have started enjoying such comedies only lately. Talking of me approaching him for a role, then well, that's not me. Priyan is someone who will give me good work if there is something for me. Beyond that, I am not the kind who will ever tell a friend, whether it's a director or a journalist, to go out of his way to do something for me. In any case, Priyan is signed with my production house for making a film so we should have something good coming soon.

"Nobody offered me film with Aamir, Salman, SRK or Ranbir" - Shenaz Treasuryvala

Shenaz Treasuryvala Think Shenaz Treasuryvala and you instantly visualise all around sunshine. Vivacious and chirpy, the ex-MTV VJ has been known to light up the atmosphere whenever she used to appear on the telly. However, when it comes to her movie outings, she is looking at characters that go beyond her ever-so-smiling and bubbly image. This is why even though she has been around for 6 years now; she is taking it easy without going overboard when it comes to Bollywood. Busy with multiple other roles that she is playing in the world of entertainment, Shenaz is all excited as she talks to Joginder Tuteja about her reasons for doing Radio, her journey over the years, and how she didn't want to do anything that showcased her as a 'Rich and bitchy' or 'sexy but innocent' character. A modern day love story about today's couple - Is that the best way to describe Radio? Yes, it is a modern day love story about relationships today and how they are not as simple and straightforward as they used to be in our parents time. 'It's complicated' is people's status on Facebook mostly and it's definitely complicated for all our characters in Radio. The radio station is the backdrop; I play RJ Shanaya who is a crazy, fun loving girl. Shanaya is a Facebook addict and a die hard romantic. She is very girlish and finds it difficult to deal with her emotions when she falls in love with a colleague from work. The complication is that he has a lot of baggage including a beautiful ex wife who no longer wants to be his ex. The complication is that he has a lot of baggage including a beautiful ex wife who no longer wants to be his ex In the film, you get to act opposite Himesh Reshammiya. Were you convinced from Day One about picking up this project or did it require you someone convincing? I fell in love with my character Shanaya. It was an opportunity to play a three dimensional character and not the run of the mill 'Rich and bitchy' or 'sexy but innocent' roles that I keep getting offered. I really liked the script. I identified with all the three characters on the page and for me script is king. If the script is good and the character inspires me, I'm ready to talk. Shenaz Treasuryvala How did the interaction with Himesh and Ishaan (film's director) go? Himesh got me picked up from my home in Bandra and I met him and the team at his house. He made me listen to the music and I was sold. It's his best album ever. He was so enthusiastic and energetic and so excited to make a good film, I needed no convincing. The director Ishaan Trivedi had a decent reputation. At that point I didn't know how good he is with actors but now I realize it was a super choice. He's been my favourite director so far, encouraging me and giving me the opportunity to really act and do my thing. With Himesh as your co-star, did you find anything amiss because he doesn't come from a formal acting background? Nope Nobody offered me a film with Aamir, Salman, Shah Rukh or Ranbir; yes for that I would have rushed back You have been a popular name on TV for so many years. You also had a nice start with Ishq Vishk opposite Shahid Kapoor. So, why are you seen so sparsely on the big screen? I am sure that over the years, offers would have come your way. What is stopping you from not signing projects by dozens? Being a Bollywood actress was never my single and most overriding or crucial goal in life. In fact I never even thought about it. Ishq Vishk just happened. And after Ishq Vishk, I turned down so many roles as I didn't like the script or the character didn't inspire me enough. I wasn't so keen. I wasn't even living in India. I was shuffling between Hong Kong and Thailand doing one of my most fun shows called 'Whatever things' for MTV Asia. So, I was not even living in India when I'd get calls for films and I didn't think any of the offers were worth coming back for. Nobody offered me a film with Aamir, Salman, Shah Rukh or Ranbir; yes for that I would have rushed back (smiles). Shenaz Treasuryvala What else was keeping you busy? After Hong Kong I moved to LA where I was working on an international travel show for Discovery Travel Channel. That was really my big dream. To write, host and produce a show for the Travel Channel in the U.S. That was my careers highest point till date! The show was called 'Culture Shock'. After the show got over, I moved back to India last year, signed Delhi Belly, Aagey Se Right and Radio. Seems like you were back with a mission... See, I have been so lucky to have so many interests and opportunities in my career. In addition to being an actress, I am fortunate to be an international travel host, a writer, and documentary producer and host. I have done so much career-wise which has not been solely dedicated to Bollywood and continue to do so. My interests are varied and as a performer, I continue to express myself in different mediums. I don't want to limit myself to just Bollywood. I am so fortunate to be able to make a living expressing myself in so many ways so I sign what I really like and won't take on anything unless I'm fully convinced. On a parting note, one can't help but ask this - Have you ever been a Himesh Reshammiya fan, whether as a composer or a singer? Oh yes, who isn't a secret fan of Himesh - the composer and singer. I'd be a hypocrite if I said I wasn't. His tunes are so catchy and his lyrics are a guilty pleasure!

Minissha Lamba is the new face of Ever Yuth

Minissha Lamba The very name of Minissha Lamba not just reflects beauty and grace, but also poise and magnetism. After having glorified the silver screen with her presence in Bollywood and after having launched a thousand products merely by saying 'cheese', the camera's favourite girl is now all set to add yet another product in her kitty of endorsements. This time round, it's the cosmetic company Zydus Pharma who has signed her for their flagship brand 'EverYuth'. If the sources close to Bollywood Hungama are to be believed, then, the remuneration that Minissha has received is really something to rave about. The source also went onto add that Minissha was very particular about the TVC that was shot featuring her promoting the brand. Hence, she sat throughout the making of the ad, which, incidentally has come out really well. All in all, Minissha has now more than one reason to smile about. After all, she is someone who can 'for-Ever' represent the 'Youth'. What say, Minissha!

Madhur Bhandarkar felicitated at Cairo

Madhur Bhandarkar Madhur Bhandarkar returned to Mumbai two days back after a week long trip to Cairo. He was in the city for 33rd Cairo International Film Festival where he was felicitated for his contribution to cinema. Also, five of his films, namely Chandni Bar, Page3, Corporate, Traffic Signal and Fashion, were showcased under the section "Tribute to Indian Cinema." "It was a great trip since it reaffirmed that Indian films do get some very good recognition abroad if presented in the right film festivals. They chose five of my recent films to be showcased and response was quite good", says Madhur whose Jail has released a fortnight back. While other invitees were aware about his films like Chandni Bar, Page 3 and Fashion, the films that caught many of them by surprise were Traffic Signal and Corporate. "These films were poles apart and the narrative style was entirely different too", says Madhur, "They were quite surprised that the setting of both these films was quite different as Traffic Signal was mostly shot outdoors while Corporate had a board room setting to it. Also, they both were set in different socio economic zones." Earlier this year, Madhur had also travelled to Moscow International Film Festival for a similar retrospective. However, in Cairo he wasn't alone as he also had Irrfan Khan for company. The actor, who was last seen in masala thriller Acid Factory, and is a global name courtesy The Namesake, Slumdog Millionaire and other films from the West, was also felicitated for his contribution to cinema.

Rensil D'Silva puzzled by UTV's decision to dub a crucial scene in Hindi

Rensil D’Silva UTV the co-producers of the just-released Kurbaan, have gone and dubbed into Hindi a crucial English-language class-room discussion on Islam and the Western world featuring Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi and a large group of Caucasian Asian-American students in Hindi. Upset by this linguistic liberty taken in his film, Rensil says, ''The white students speaking in Hindi sounds so artificial. I'm upset in many ways, this discussion of Islamic fundamentalism and America is the crux of the theme. Dubbing it in Hindi takes away from its seriousness.'' Rensil doesn't claim ignorance to UTV's plans. ''They had assured me that the dubbing was only for a very small number prints that would go in the Hindi belt where English is not understood.'' Instead UTV has dubbed the vital sequence in 500 prints of Kurbaan. Explains UTV's CEO Siddharth Roy Kapoor, ''It's an important scene for the audience to understand as it details out the core debate in the film. In order to not alienate a non-English speaking audience we've dubbed this scene in certain areas.'' Rensil feels especially let down since he has not once compromised on the spoken language of the film. ''Saif, Vivek, Kareena and Diya speak in a mixture of Hindi and English. Kirron Kher too has her own speech pattern. It's only in the crucial scene that the linguistic integrity is compromised.''

Perturbed by nude scene, Urvashi walks out of a film

Compromise. That's the much used and abused word, especially when it comes to the entertainment world. More so when this world happens to Bollywood. A compromise could be presented in different ways and forms. It could be monetary, physical, mental or even psychological. In an industry where glamour sells, any form of compromise becomes even more visible, pertinent and perhaps even a bare minimum criterion for a step ahead in the career. Quite a few aspiring actors may fall in this trap, a few may agree to tread the path with their eyes open, some may remain oblivious to this while a select few may dare to say no. Urvashi Sharma belongs to the last category. The story doesn't belong to the primitive times. In fact it dates back just a month ago when things had actually started heating up for better in Urvashi's career. A couple of years after Abbas Mustan directed Naqaab, where the fair lady was noticed for her author backed role and performance, she went onto do a small but meaningful role in hard hitting Baabarr. She made her presence felt and as she awaited big banners to knock on her doors, she soon crossed over a few seas to see a British project landing in her lap. The film was called The Bounty Hunter and it seemed like a perfect new beginning for Urvashi Sharma, who was also signed by Priyadarshan for a couple of films back home. She went gaga over the prospects of doing an English language film that boasted of a cast from across the continents. A big league pretty much seemed to be in the offering for the young woman who till then was enjoying her professional standing of being an established model for long and a face of 'hazaar' commercials. However, this proved to be a dream that wasn't destined to be fulfilled. Just when she was about to sign on the dotted line, she was informed about a 'core requirement' in the film's narrative. She was asked to do a nude scene for the film, a compromise that she was certainly not willing to make for any movie, whether Bollywood, British or Hollywood. She reasoned with the makers (Endboard Productions) and argued if this scene was really that crucial for her to enact on camera. However, the production people and director Sunandan Walia had their own take on affairs. The leading lady in the film was required to go nude and there were no second thoughts. The situation pretty much reached a roadblock with none of the two parties willing to compromise. Urvashi Sharma, with her Indian ethics intact, was quite sure that she wasn't willing to give in to the situation, regardless of the project promising to bring her up to an international platform. On the other hand, Endboard Productions felt that Urvashi's stand was unreasonable. Also, they promised that the shoot would be done aesthetically. However, Urvashi being a newcomer in the industry was of course apprehensive about the entire affair. She chose to steer clear from this film without regretting her decision at a later stage. Even if this meant letting go off a plum acting opportunity in a film which is being funded by U.K. Film Council, she was unwilling to get into this compromise that could have had severe repercussions in her career. After a period of ecstasy followed by mental turmoil, she finally decided to let the project go away once for and all and instead started concentrating on her Bollywood career. She was sure that after all the appreciation she gained from Naqaab and Baabarr, it was a matter of time before filmmakers started taking note of her presence in the industry. This may perhaps require some more wait but at least that would be on her terms rather than someone else's. She informed Endboard Productions about an end in their association and finally heaved a sigh of relief. "It was a period of immense mental turmoil since I had earlier made up my mind to be a part of The Bounty Hunter. It seemed like a good career decision but going nude for a role was never a part of my agenda. Skin show and exposure is a part and parcel in the glamour world but come on, there is a limit to everything", says Urvashi who is quite clear in her mind about where to draw the line. Well, regardless of a The Bounty Hunter or the lack of it in her work profile, one waits to see the beautiful lady come back into action. Who knows, there may be many more tumbling skeletons as Urvashi turns on the heat. This time on her own will and without any sense of compromise!

"Shah Rukh always knew about Tees Maar Khan" - Shirish Kunder

Shirish Kunder This seems to have become a national issue. Farah Khan working with Akshay Kumar for her next directorial venture appears to be nothing short of Sonia Gandhi suddenly deciding to join BJP (sorry, couldn't think of a better analogy). Pretty much making all around headlines, the news of Shirish Kunder turning producer for Tees Maar Khan which stars Akshay Kumar, is directed by Farah Khan and doesn't feature Shah Rukh Khan anywhere in close vicinity, has been the hottest recipe of the season. Over to Shirish who bares his heart out and tells Joginder Tuteja all about the past, present and future of his debut production. Really, is it that big an issue which is being made out currently? Just like an actor has all the right to work with any director, same holds good for a filmmaker too, isn't it? Forget the entire point around a director looking at working with his/her favourite actor. The point here is why are some sections of media hell bent on calling this as a war or something. It isn't as if Farah isn't working with Shah Rukh Khan at all. Her Happy New Year is still happening with him and it is pretty much a part of the plan. It's just that in the time available to her, she is plugging in another film that happens to be with Akshay Kumar. However, why is everyone trying to find a controversy here? It isn't as if Farah has dropped plans for Happy New Year and has replaced that with another film. It isn't as if Farah has dropped plans for Happy New Year Perhaps all these talks stem from the fact that Farah Khan has been known for her affection towards Shah Rukh. Also, she is believed to have stated around the release of Om Shanti Om that she would work mainly with Shah Rukh, as apparent in her first two directorial outings (that include Main Hoon Naa). Maybe, maybe. In any case, it was me who was supposed to direct Tees Maar Khan first. It's just that when Farah read the script, she jumped on it. She said - 'Wish, I could make this film'. The moment she said that, I gladly handed over the script to her. It's as simple as that. It was me who was supposed to direct Tees Maar Khan first. It's just that when Farah read the script, she jumped on it Really, was it that simple? Yes, really. See, anyways Farah and I were looking at getting a production house started and Tees Maar Khan seemed like a good opportunity to do that. What better way to do that than split responsibilities and have it as an entire in-house affair. I couldn't have definitely handled both production as well as direction departments. This is why I decided to get the show running by donning a producer's hat while Farah picked up the directorial reins. Tees Maar Khan is anyways a very Farah Khan kind of film! What makes you say that? You must have seen Om Shanti Om and Main Hoon Naa. You would certainly be aware about the language that she talks. Her films are meant to be complete masala entertainers that cater to all segments of audiences and Tees Maar Khan does exactly that. I am so convinced that we have the best case scenario here. Was it equally challenging to convince Shah Rukh Khan as well who must certainly have been hoping to feature in each of Farah Khan films? Or was he not required to be kept in loop? When I was writing Tees Maar Khan, I always had Akshay Kumar in mind. So there is no question of Shah Rukh feeling upset or anything. He knew about the film from the very beginning so obviously there were no questions to be asked when Tees Maar Khan was announced with Akshay. Now if someone out there wishes to get 1 and 1 together then we can't help that, right? Shirish Kunder Well, this 1 plus 1 stems from the hot topic making the rounds that you and Farah went ahead and signed Akshay quietly because Shah Rukh had roped in Reema Kagti instead of you for his film The Zoya Factor. Yes, even I read about this from papers. However, the fact is that I had nothing to do with The Zoya Factor. I wasn't even aware of a movie like this till I read about this so-called controversy. I have been so involved writing Tees Maar Khan that there is nothing else on my mind for all these years. Tees Maar Khan is anyways a very Farah Khan kind of film This is something that makes one wonder that how do you intend to stay away from direction for so many years. Your Jaan-E-Mann came 3 years back and now that you have got into production for Tees Maar Khan, it would be at least one more year before you get behind the camera yourself. Isn't the director in you craving to call the shots? It is, it is (laughs). But then kya karen, we also have to set up our production house. Even that is important. Maybe when things settle down, I will fulfil my love for directing movies. If I get involved in a project, I really get hands on Perhaps you could get your first love of editing movies come in handy for Tees Maar Khan. After all before turning a director, you had edited quite a few flicks in the decade gone by? (Laughs) Yeah, if time permits then why not? If I get involved in a project, I really get hands on. Like in case of Jaan-E-Mann, I had even done the background score. Though I really don't know how much time I will actually get for Tees Maar Khan. Running a production house is a full day job yaar! So when do you get the film on floors? That should be in March 2010. And how about the leading lady? We are still hunting for her. She could be an established actress or a new girl. We are open to both.

Ranbir and RGV meet, but not for Sarkar 3

Ranbir Kapoor "Can I please make one thing clear? There's no Sarkar 3. The series ended with Sarkar Raj. There can be no film in the Sarkar series without the Bachchans. It is unthinkable," says Ram Gopal Varma. Ramu is baffled by the latest reports suggesting that he met Ranbir Kapoor for Sarkar 3. He doesn't deny meeting the in-demand star-actor. "I've met Ranbir Kapoor. And we've discussed some possibilities on what we can do. But Sarkar 3 is not one of them. I don't want to make any more Sarkar films. Not now, not in the future," says Ramu emphatically. What Ramu has in mind for Ranbir is completely different. Though he doesn't admit it on record, the director wants to return to the intensely romantic language of Rangeela with Ranbir, after he finishes with his film on media and society Rann and the bio-pic Rakta Charitra on Paritala Ravi. In the meanwhile, the sequel to Phoonk is being directed for Ram Gopal Varma by his assistant Milind Gadagkar. "I've been busy with Rann and Rakta Charitra. So, Milind did Phoonk 2. He was closely involved with the first part of Phoonk," says Ramu.
