This seems to have become a national issue. Farah Khan working with Akshay Kumar for her next directorial venture appears to be nothing short of Sonia Gandhi suddenly
deciding to join BJP (sorry, couldn't think of a better analogy). Pretty much making all around headlines, the news of Shirish Kunder turning producer for Tees Maar
Khan which stars Akshay Kumar, is directed by Farah Khan and doesn't feature Shah Rukh Khan anywhere in close vicinity, has been the hottest recipe of the season.
Over to Shirish who bares his heart out and tells Joginder Tuteja all about the past, present and future of his debut production.
Really, is it that big an issue which is being made out currently? Just like an actor has all the right to work with any director, same holds good for a filmmaker too, isn't
it?
Forget the entire point around a director looking at working with his/her favourite actor. The point here is why are some sections of media hell bent on calling this as a war or
something. It isn't as if Farah isn't working with Shah Rukh Khan at all. Her Happy New Year is still happening with him and it is pretty much a part of the plan. It's
just that in the time available to her, she is plugging in another film that happens to be with Akshay Kumar. However, why is everyone trying to find a controversy here? It
isn't as if Farah has dropped plans for Happy New Year and has replaced that with another film.
Well, this 1 plus 1 stems from the hot topic making the rounds that you and Farah went ahead and signed Akshay quietly because Shah Rukh had roped in Reema
Kagti instead of you for his film The Zoya Factor.
Yes, even I read about this from papers. However, the fact is that I had nothing to do with The Zoya Factor. I wasn't even aware of a movie like this till I read about this
so-called controversy. I have been so involved writing Tees Maar Khan that there is nothing else on my mind for all these years.

Kurbaan has released and while the film has seen wide critical acclaim coming its way; it has also been appreciated for its hard hitting theme and a thrilling narrative. However, there have also been murmurs around its similarities with New York. Saif Ali Khan, the film's lead actor, has his own take on affairs though.
With the release of Kurbaan, there are similarities been drawn with New York and to a lesser extent Fanaa. Were you prepared for the queries coming your way?
Leave aside audiences, media or industry people thinking like this, even I as an actor asked the same question when Kurbaan came to me. Even I had New York and Fanaa at the back of my mind. However, once I heard the film's script, all my doubts went out of the window. I know it is not Fanaa. Also, I have not seen New York but have read its script and I know for sure that you can't compare the two films.
Do you think that the promotion, right from the revealing of the First Look poster, sent out the right messaging to the audiences?
Absolutely, things have been going quite well for Kurbaan and I am of course glad about that. I always feel that it's the First Look of the film which is equally important as the rest of the promotion for weeks to come. It is required to be so very correct because this is what starts sending out the right vibes to the audiences. Today's audiences are quite demanding and so many times they make a decision around whether they would watch the film or not on the sheer basis of the first impression that it has managed to create.
Kurbaan has released quite close to the 1st anniversary of infamous 26/11 episode. Is it really coincidental, considering the fact that the film raises questions around global terrorism?
How can you even presume something like this? Karan had this idea for a while now and we had actually begun shooting for the film in US when 26/11 happened. It has been a regular course of movie making that normally spans a year. Now when the movie is releasing, it is sheer coincidence to have it so close to 26/11. Yes, the fact though is that terrorism is pretty much on our face till date and we continue to be affected by that.

While Kareena Kapoor requested her producer Karan Johar to remove her bare-back scenes from Kurbaan before showing it to her mom, director Rensil D'Silva is only too happy to show the much talked-about scenes to his 95-year old grandfather Walter Netto.
''He's the one from whom I inculcated a passion for movies. My maternal grandfather Walter Netto would take me to a film every Sunday religiously. And then he'd discuss every scene with me. That's where I developed a fondness for films.''
And Walter's logbook was the reference point for Rensil's taste in films. ''Walter had a logbook where every single film we saw was recorded, his thoughts opinion criticism and observation on every film we saw on those sleepy Sunday afternoon in my growing years.''
That logbook has become Rensil's most important reference point for cinema. ''It contains invaluable notes on all the films I grew up with.''
Naturally Rensil wants to show his first film as director to his grandfather Walter first. ''I just want to walk hand in hand with him into a theatre close to him screening Kurbaan and just enjoy the film with him like we used to when I was a child. Fortunately or unfortunately, that won't be possible because he has been keeping track of everything to do with Kurbaan. He knows more about it than I do.''
While those close and not so close to Kurbaan have been shouting themselves hoarse about the bare-back and love-making scenes Walter Netto has made no fuss over those scenes.
Says Rensil, ''I think he's one of the few people who understood the relevance of those scenes within the film's context. I can't wait for Walter to watch Kurbaan. Whatever the film has shaped into is because of what I learnt with him during my childhood.''Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 23 Nov 2009 | 5:55 am Ranbir and RGV meet, but not for Sarkar 3
"Can I please make one thing clear? There's no Sarkar 3. The series ended with Sarkar Raj. There can be no film in the Sarkar series without the Bachchans. It is unthinkable," says Ram Gopal Varma.
Ramu is baffled by the latest reports suggesting that he met Ranbir Kapoor for Sarkar 3. He doesn't deny meeting the in-demand star-actor. "I've met Ranbir Kapoor. And we've discussed some possibilities on what we can do. But Sarkar 3 is not one of them. I don't want to make any more Sarkar films. Not now, not in the future," says Ramu emphatically.
What Ramu has in mind for Ranbir is completely different. Though he doesn't admit it on record, the director wants to return to the intensely romantic language of Rangeela with Ranbir, after he finishes with his film on media and society Rann and the bio-pic Rakta Charitra on Paritala Ravi.
In the meanwhile, the sequel to Phoonk is being directed for Ram Gopal Varma by his assistant Milind Gadagkar.
"I've been busy with Rann and Rakta Charitra. So, Milind did Phoonk 2. He was closely involved with the first part of Phoonk," says Ramu.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 Nov 2009 | 5:50 am The Twilight Saga rakes in $140 mnThe Twilight Saga: New Moon, the much awaited sequel to the vampire romance Twilight has received the third biggest weekend opening in the history of Hollywood. In the few seconds it takes Amitabh Bachchan to amble across his office room to shake my hand, I have the distinct feeling that he has already sized me up. It's the way those black eyes seem to take everything in, and give nothing back. In his brown suede track suit, Bachchan seemed relaxed and excited to talk about his most ambitious film, Paa, which is also produced by his company AB Corp Limited. "Would you like to have any tea or coffee?" he asks me. Now that's a chance only a fool would miss. "I will have some tea, thank you", I answer. He then makes you embarrassed. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting for half an hour", he says. I was speechless.
People all across the world wait for an icon of his stature for years only to see his face in flesh, and I was here having tea with him. What had I to say? But then in a second came this - "My Facebook profile this morning read, 'On my way to Janak...its Jalsa time with the little Auro. Is that what the next 15 to 20 minutes are going to be?" I ask. "Yes. I think we can do a few questions. May be I'll tell you how I behave as Auro, the role of a thirteen year old Progeria kid I play in Paa. Actually, I've got my teeth in the little orange box kept in front of you. I can even put them on and do the interview in the Auro look", he suggests. I was excited to know more about Auro. So I ask a witty one. "How much does Auro know about Amitabh Bachchan?" Big B replies, "Very little, I think (laughs). One of his favourite people in the film is Jackie Chan. Auro is more of a Play Station freak. He plays his video games, he has his own room to himself with all kind of paintings and pictures and little objects that he is really fond of. He has a huge monkey which is made in China and says that people won't understand the monkey because he speaks Chinese. Auro is fond of himself. He talks to him, imitates himself and dances. That's Auro."
Big B is someone who tends to get involved. Not getting involved is never an option for this maestro. It felt as if I was talking to Auro and not Amitabh. I ask the actor and producer whether he was a troublesome child throughout the film, to which he answered, "Not really. Auro is a very intelligent person, despite the fact that he is suffering from Progeria which is a genetic disorder where you age four of five times than normal. But otherwise, he is a bright child and not troublesome at all". Where Mr Bachchan is right now is intriguing, too, though. His most challenging role is here in the form of Auro. "The film is not issue based. It's not a film that you'll be seeing devoted entirely to Auro's abnormality. No. Auro is another character in a much larger script. Paa is a regular sweet jocular story of a child who helps reunite his father and mother", Bachchan delivers. With so much about Auro, the actor can't wait to recall his own days at school while he was a kid. It was flashback time. "I can surely remember my good old days at my own school when I was a kid. I went to a convent school in Allahabad. I did what a normal school child would do even today - did some drawings, games and a bit of theatre. I remember I played a chicken when I was in the convent school. That's the earliest memory I have of me in school."
But what he doesn't know is the fact that the little Auro's dancing step has become so famous amongst the school kids in India that every little boy and girl are dancing to the tune when the Paa trailer is played on the television. He laughs and says, "That's so good to know that the kids are catching up with the 'Auro Step'. In the film, Auro dances when ever he is excited. He dances with his school mates and they all do their own victory dance". From dancing to gaming. We shift gears. I call him the new gadget freak. He disagrees to some extent. "I've never been able to keep up with all the gadgetry. My grandson who is eight years old does it. And every time I think that I've bought him something new, I'm amazed to see that he can fix it up in five minutes. I'm surprised that their acumen with the gadgets now-a-days. I like to keep up with it and I have to make an effort. I still don't know how to use my laptop to its ultimate output but I do manage it well. I can go on the net, browse, upload pictures, write my blog but that's it. Send and receive emails too. But I'm sure I can do a lot more", he comments. At 66 the actor is playing a revolution, an innovation and an invention. He states, "I think it's important to understand what all it entails and then I leave it to you to categorise it whether it's a revolution or not. I think perhaps for the first time in our films, you will never see the main face of the protagonist. Yes, Auro is me and I look like what I look in the posters. So people won't see Amitabh Bachchan's face. Maybe that's revolutionary. I don't know whether a sixty year old actor has played a thirteen year old boy. Maybe that's an invention. And I think for the first time, I am playing a reel life son to my real life son who plays my father in the film. It's a role reversal. You can call that an innovation."
It is his voice that makes him so unmistakably Amitabh Bachchan. Goofy, but masterful; loud, yet full of cadence, it is the voice of a cartoon character and an orator all at once. Like him, it is both imposing and reassuring. Despite his overwhelming fame Big B is as charming and polite, funny and gentlemanly an encounter as you could ever hope to have. He is exactly as you think he would be, which only makes him more cheering. He is the best friend you've never had, but easily might. All of which feeds neatly into his celluloid persona. In many ways he is the perfect movie star: not quite handsome enough to unsettle; not celebrity enough to bring baggage; clever enough to disappear into the roles he plays; and yet always, overwhelmingly, Amitabh Bachchan.

De Dana Dan is igniting the heat and it is obvious that the last minute promotional blitzkrieg is helping the film's cause. Though the film was confirmed for 27th November release for quite some time, the makers held on to the promotion for a while before deciding to go full throttle, as obvious in the manner the film is picking up steam.
Was an idea already put in place to keep the buzz in check and let the film do the talking as it neared its release?
"Yes, that was indeed an idea since De Dana Dan has the right package. People know what to expect from it, they can see the famous three stooges and they know it's a Priyadarshan film", says Akshay who holds a cent percent record with Priyan, last being Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), "The film has the girls, it has the humour, it has the songs, and all of it speaks for it self. This is why there was no explaining to do and now the film is brought in front of the audiences to have them announce the final verdict."
In the times when most of the recent films (including his own Blue) have gone on an overdrive when it comes to reaching out to audiences, a controlled promotion as evidenced in De Dana Dan could well set an example.
"See, some movies just sell themselves", categorically states Akshay, "It all depends on the production house. Some producers are prepared to sell their own houses to promote their films whereas there are others who don't even turn up for press events. And then there are some who give as much to their films as they can without shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to expenses."
Keeping the business aspect of De Dana Dan aside, one is quite clear after looking at the riotous promos that the film is an out and out slap stick. Are we actually looking at a laugh-a-minute saga in the offering?
"We are just looking at an out and out comedy", says Akshay, "How Priyanji has actually done is something that no one knows. De Dana Dan is funnier, faster, and more flamboyant than ever. If you even sneeze once then you are doomed. You don't really want to miss a single shot. You can't blink. You should not even let your father pull his socks up. And please switch your mobiles off. Also, make sure that you go to the bathroom before you enter the cinema. I am afraid there are no toilet breaks allowed in this movie, unless you want to be left behind."
Boasting of more than couple of dozens of actors forming a part of the narrative, De Dana Dan boasts of a plethora of character actors other than the Hera Pheri team and leading ladies Katrina Kaif, Neha Dhupia and Sameera Reddy. As per everyone associated with De Dana Dan, the film has been designed for the masses and caters to complete family audience.
"You must bring your entire family to watch the film", advises Akshay, "However, please ask everyone to bring their brains along as well. If you fail to do so, you will be lost and still left laughing at the first gag. The film moves at a fast pace so you ought to keep your eyes wide open and brains functioning."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 23 Nov 2009 | 2:34 am I'll be there to guide any damsel in distress: Akshay KumarHe worked with them when they were new to the film industry and gave back-to-back hits but Akshay Kumar refuses to take credit for Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra's success.Source: Entertainment News | 23 Nov 2009 | 1:59 am Katrina's sizzling wet song with Akshay - Oneindia
