Superstar and Greek God Hrithik Roshan says OK! magazine

"My Dad has been the best Dad ever" flashes the headlines on the cover-story about the one and only Superstar and Greek God that Bollywood has ever seen: Hrithik Roshan! It is this same Superstar who looks the look and talks the talk in the latest edition of OK! India. First things first... the cover of the issue is something that is worth giving your life for... in other words...its worth dying for! Words fall short to describe the look that Hrithik dons on the cover. If that wasn't enough, the inside pages of the issue seem like the unfurling of the dream called 'Hrithik'! Hrithik, in his own words, talks about diverse topics like what it means to be voted as India's Sexiest Dad, his bonding as a father with his sons, personality traits that his sons have inherited from him. Not just that, he also talks about who is a stricter parent: him or Suzanne, the change that fatherhood brought to him, his take on jittery Fridays (and if they exist in his dictionary) etc... etc... etc... All in all, simply say OK! to Hrithik and his verbal lollies in the latest edition of OK! India.

Are Katrina & Kareena's roles similar in New York & Kurbaan respectively?

If Katrina Kaif gave her best performance so far in Kabir Khan's New York, it is now Kareena Kapoor's turn to pull out all stops and deliver a walloping histrionic sixer in Rensil D'Silva's Kurbaan, in uncannily similar roles. Both the actresses are featured in near-identical roles. Of a wife who discovers her husband to be a closet-terrorist. Coincidentally, both the films are located in the city of New York. Secretly both Katrina and Kareena see the role of the terrorist's wife as a turning point in their respective careers. But what about the similarity between the two characters? Kurbaan director Rensil D'Silva doesn't deny the similarities. "If there are similarities between Kurbaan and New York then that's fine. I've high regards for Kabir Khan as a filmmaker. If Kurbaan reminds audiences of Kabir's film then I'm fine with that. It has worthy recall-value." However, Rensil cautions that every work on terror and terrorism has its own mood and purpose. "There can be any number of films on two people falling in love. It's about how the individual director interprets the emotion of love. Likewise with the theme of terrorism. It's open to a multitude of interpretations. I'd like to believe my film is essentially different from Kabir's." Kabir Khan was on the way to Cairo for the Cairo Film Festival for the screening of New York on Monday when he was contacted. Khan said, "What can I say about the similarities between the two films that you're pointing out? Kurbaan looks like a well-made film. If they're similar then I'm sure that the audience that appreciated my New York will also take to this film." But the real fight will be between Kareena and Katrina, both portraying similar roles and vying for the same popular awards at the end of the year.

"In Kurbaan my character is suave intellectual & that makes it dangerous" - Om Puri

Om Puri Rensil D'Silva's much anticipated Kurbaan is based on the London subway bombings of 7 July 2005. This is not the first film where Om plays a terrorist mastermind for the same gruesome terrorist attack in London. Says Om, "In Jagmohan Mundhra's Shoot On Sight, I was also one of the instigating factors in the bombings. But there I played a far more basic character perpetrating hated. In Kurbaan, I'm a suave intellectual with a mind behind my religious beliefs. The people who planned 26/11 or 7/7 had very precise deep and scientific minds. They weren't the rabid illogical kind of religious fanatics who work on their own rationale. And that's what makes my character in Kurbaan far more dangerous." Om suggested the character wear spectacles to look normal. "The dangerous thing about global terrorism is that people with terrorist leanings have begun to emerge from educated normal rational households. That's the kind of mastermind I play in Kurbaan." Om Puri had absolutely no qualms stepping into the terrorist mastermind's role in Kurbaan, a role that Irrfan Khan said no to. "I don't know why Irrfan said no. To me every character is equally challenging and desirable. I've played Raavan in Shyam Benegal's Discovery Of India. And I still remember how much that helped me to grow as a human being and actor. The one line from Raavan's dialogues that I remember very clearly is, 'If it's something worth doing then do it right away. Don't delay. If it's something not worth doing then think about it again and again. I've followed that dictum in my life." And the one lesson that Kurbaan taught Om? "The character is not a rabid mullah but an educated thinking individual. This is what America's policy of arming Islamic countries has done. It has given birth to a culture of hatred and violence even among educated people." Om is currently in Chandigarh shooting for West Is West, the sequel to his highly successful East Is East. "Not one single untoward incident has happened. This is quite an achievement for a foreign unit," says Om proudly who will miss the release of Kurbaan in Mumbai. "But I'll be back in time for the release of my wife's biography sometime next week," he promises.

"Kurbaan was originally going to be Nikhil Advani's debut with me and SRK" - Vivek Oberoi

He has clashed with the press and has a reputation as a firebrand, sometimes, but Vivek Oberoi's aggression is the driving force that has landed him some great roles in films like Company, Shootout At Lokhandwala and Saathiya. The latest as a journalist in Rensil D' Silva's Kurbaan is no exception. He confesses about many things, sitting in Dharma Production office. His wrong choices, his trappings of stardom, his time with RGV, his time with Bebo and Saif, his intention to get into a relationship and many more interesting facts. But hearing him speak with razor sharp confidence makes you want to think that he is going to take his second innings seriously. Vivek Oberoi is a changed man, in his walk and in his talk. Ten minutes down the interview you feel as if you're talking to a senior journalist and not an actor. Oberoi is in command from the word go. UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent caught hold of the underdog who has already embarked on his journey to be a top dog in his second life. I think you've always looked colourful in grey shades. Company, Shoot Out At Lokhandwala and your next project Rakht Charitra and who knows Kurbaan. (Laughs) Thank you for Rakht Charitra, but I think it's a little pre-emptive to say that till the film releases. In Kurbaan, you're assuming that I play a grey shade. So I'll let you live with your assumptions till you see the film. Audiences like your rawness more than the clean and sophisticated looking Vivek Oberoi. Do you get to hear such things too? I don't know, may be. I think it's about performing a character to the fullest. I'm really curious to know what your reaction to Kurbaan will be. My role in Kurbaan is that of a journalist, a polished journalist. He is a pretty solid character. Rawness also depends on what the ambience of that film is. Kurbaan is a high drama film. It's not the terrorist we hear of who comes from a remote village and dresses in some Pathani clothes. These are the people who live in sleeper cells and you don't even realise that they are terrorists and what they're going to do. These are the people who live in sleeper cells and you don't even realise that they are terrorists and what they're going to do What kurbaani was given by you to get Kurbaan? From my own level, a lot of hard work, a lot of filming in bitter cold is the physical kurbaani I had to give in. Mental sacrifice was to stay away from my family for that long, especially at the time when 26/11 happened. I was shooting in Philadelphia at that moment. It was a scary experience. Your take on the 26/11 as it approaches a year next week. I am deeply hurt and disappointed as an Indian. It's not even a year it happened, and at that time it was so much about taking lessons and doing good, and right now we are having non issues grabbing attention in the print and television media. All this is speculative rubbish. As people we need to review ourselves how we spent the last year. Are we thick skinned insensitive people that anybody can treat us anyway they want? All we need is a political leader saying 'Move that way' and we'll move that way. This is utter nonsense. We aren't even a developing nation. I'd call ourselves an emerging nation. There is so much pride connected to India and lot of expectation from the entire world today and look at us. We should be spending this year in trying to make sure that the Mumbai we felt so much pain for, that Mumbai which was attacked and which attacked our sentiments, what have we done for that Mumbai? There is so much pride connected to India and lot of expectation from the entire world today and look at us You getting emotional? Yes, I am. There are so many children who need health care, accommodation issues, water, land, etc. You name it and we've got issues. We've got so many problems in Mumbai. It's sad and it's not we should feel proud of. We haven't achieved anything out of it. I thought that 26/11 will change our Mumbai and our country for good. There'll be a revolution. Sadly, nothing has changed. Kurbaan deals with terrorism and there were terrorists in Mumbai when you were filming. How spooky was it? You won't believe this. We had a scene in a sub-way station in the US and at the same time there was an attack carried out at our CST station in Mumbai. It was bizarre. Life was unreal and it was like a twilight zone experience. I felt so much anger towards the media in the US that our Mumbai was being projected as an unprepared city. I don't know. But I was really hurt. I felt so much anger towards the media in the US that our Mumbai was being projected as an unprepared city Your steep rise, then a downfall and now looking to climb the ladder back to the top. You've learnt it the hard way? I think this time around it's a conscious effort. I've also learnt to appreciate the value of an opportunity. Somewhere I took a lot of things for granted in my life. I spent about nineteen years of my life wanting to be an actor. Till I was about twenty three when Ramu cast me as an actor in Company. It was ridiculous that within a year of achieving my first success, awards and getting all that acclaim, suddenly I felt I wasn't hungry any more. My focus was all over the place. I was more interested in my personal life, speculations, controversies and getting dragged into so much nonsense. I was known when I came in this industry for my art and talent. Suddenly I was known for everything but that. I accept that I was to be blamed and that's what you call the trappings of stardom. It was a trap I walked into. But having wasted so much precious time, I feel different today when I look forward for my second innings. I think I've traded my ego in for humility, I've traded my innocence for my experience, I've traded my complacency for a raging fire in the belly. I was known when I came in this industry for my art and talent. Suddenly I was known for everything but that Is Kurbaan a pacey thriller? Considering that it's a two and a half hour film, yes it is. Once my character Riyaz Masood comes into the film, the thriller begins and the pace picks up. You play a journalist in Kurbaan. What do you know about journalists? What did you research on? (Laughs) I know a lot about journalists. Sitting on the other side for seven years is too much of the research done. I think Riyaz Masood is very different from the Bollywood beat kind of a journalist. I don't take Bollywood journalism very seriously for what it's made itself into. Today it's a competition between who can run whom down more. We do have a few journalists who are holding it up right there and not ready to bow down. But most of it is about TRP's now. Riyaaz Masood is a serious journalist and that's what gives him so much depth. I don't take Bollywood journalism very seriously for what it's made itself into Is Kurbaan a burning debate? Yes it is. It is a burning debate that terrorism is consuming the whole world now. After the Second World War got over, everyone thought that there will never be any more wars. If you notice today, the equivalent numbers of people have died in conflicts alone, sometimes even more, than the Second World War. I think a war between civil society and fundamentalism has grown so large that it's become microcosmic. Every individual that finds himself on either side is at war. Peace that is born out of fear is just a suppressed war waiting to explode. That's what Kurbaan deals with. That's Riyaz Masood talking. Having worked with Bebo and Saif previously in Yuva and Omkara, what changes have you seen in them two? I am hugely biased about Bebo. She is extremely talented. I've loved working with her from the very first experience I had. We've had a great rapport and a great relationship. We've been really good friends for a while. She is adorable. I'm seeing Bebo blossom as an actor and as a person and I've got my friend Saif to thank for that. He brings out the best in her. He makes her groom in every sense. She compliments it completely. I've never seen Saif so calm and content and happy. Touchwood, they are my favourite Bollywood couple for the fact that they are so real and honest with each other. They are regular friends who are in a relationship. During Kurbaan's outdoor schedule, Saif and I worked out together, Bebo and I discussed books, we went out for dinners, etc. I'm very happy that they both are together. During Kurbaan's outdoor schedule, Saif and I worked out together, Bebo and I discussed books And what about you? I'm still single. I love my space. But seeing both Bebo and Saif I think that if ever I get into a serious relationship, I want something as real, as beautiful and as honest as they share. It's lovely to see that. Was Kurbaan one phone call away? When I was doing Company and was barely twenty days into the shooting of the film, I got a call from Karan Johar. I went, "Which one of you jokers is this?" Karan then stated that RGV called him and showed him my rushes in Company. That's when he said, "I think you'll go a far way and whenever you get time, do come and meet me". Now here's this filmmaker who goes out and sees my work and then calls me up and gives me confidence. Kurbaan was going to be Nikhil Advani's debut with me and Shah Rukh Khan at that time, thanks to that phone call. The same Karan calls me up after years and offers me Kurbaan again. What about Rensil D'Silva? It's very simple. I've put this across to him too. But today I say this in public. Rensil D'Silva is the new Mani Ratnam.

"Aamir, SRK to attend Paa premiere" - Big B

Amitabh Bachchan They say Bollywood is one big family. And attending premieres of each other's films certainly a part and parcel of the ways of the tinsel town. In a latest, Amitabh Bachchan has confirmed that Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan will grace the premiere of Paa, where Big B plays a 13-year old boy afflicted by the rare disease progeria. Bachchan writes on his blog, "And now for the bad news. The London and Dubai premieres stand cancelled. Several issues have cropped up and it would not be prudent to go ahead with it, under such uncertain pressures and circumstances. But Mumbai is on ... at the IMAX Wadala on the 3rd of December and Aamir and Shah Rukh have both assured me of their presence there, today, as I begin to send out letters and requests to block said date from the Industry." In the same post, Bachchan praised the regional press for their incisive questions and informed fans that he's going to Chennai to "get an idea of the mechanics that go behind a final product - background and sound and effects and titles and sub titles." Sure, there's a lot that goes behind making a film. Especially, when you have the biggest star of Bollywood in it.

"I'm very upset with Bigg Boss" - Shamita Shetty

Shamita Shetty Shamita Shetty has come out of the reality show Bigg Boss totally confused disoriented and caught between two different levels of excitement. "I've a migraine and I can't think straight. I'm numb with disorientation. The first thing I did on coming out was to snatch someone's phone and call my sister. In the 7-8 minutes that I spoke to her, I wanted to know everything. I ended up being more confused." Shamita feels a sense of unreality about the reality show. "It was a month of my life. But it feels like a lifetime. I left a place where I went through the strangest of experiences. I was thrown into situations where we were bickering over a basic thing like food. And now my sister is getting married. I'm so disoriented, it isn't funny? I need to sit and discuss the whole experience of 'Bigg Boss' with my sister before we discuss her wedding. Otherwise, I'm going to burst." Shamita Shetty, who chose voluntary eviction from the 'Bigg Boss' House on Friday night, is very upset with the way her sister Shilpa's marriage was broken to her in the House. "First of all, I was the last person to get to know about my sister's engagement and wedding. That in itself was upsetting enough. But I can't hold anything against her. And she's marrying the most wonderful man, so I'm happy for her. But I'm not happy with the way I heard the news." The wild-card entrant Pravesh Rana came into the house and broke the news to Shamita. "He casually told me my sister was getting married! He gave me a wrong date November 25, and then he said that it was December 25. By then, I was wild with anxiety about my sister's wedding plans. Tell me; was this way to break the news? So clumsy. It did create a friction between me and Pravesh. But, eventually we were talking cordially." Shamita was not too happy with the way she was evicted either. "I was called into the confession room where I was given a letter written by my sister and mother. I burst out crying when I read Shilpa's words explaining that the wedding had to be preponed. And then I was told to leave through a little door in the confession room, in my chappals! I couldn't even say goodbye to my friends Aditi Gowitrikar, Bakhtiar and Tanaaz Irani." All said and done, Shamita says she's happy she went to 'Bigg Boss'. "I had just done a Oneness (spiritual healing) course. 'Bigg Boss' gave me a chance to try out all that I had learnt at the Oneness course. I had to be calm, patient and fight negativity. I did a good job of it." Shamita says she has lost so much weight in 'Bigg Boss', that her father was alarmed when he saw her! Says Shamita, "The funniest thing is, we were given only potato and rice during the first week, food articles that go totally against my diet. I protested to 'Bigg Boss'. No one paid any attention. Now that I'm out, I need to get over the experience and take over the arrangements for my sister's wedding."

Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra to move opposite Bachchans' residence after marriage

Since the marriage couldn't be postponed any further, thanks to the moody stars (we mean the ones above, not down below) Shilpa Shetty and her soon-to-be bridegroom Raj Kundra will move into a smaller brand-new place in a high-rise owned by Vashu Bhagnani in front of the Bachchans' residence Jalsa, until Shilpa Shetty-Kundra's dream home in Juhu is fully done up by Sussanne Roshan. Dream house or no, the marriage couldn't be held off any more. After the marriage Shilpa and Raj Kundra will fly off to an unknown destination for their honeymoon. They shift into their Juhu residence in February or March. Immediately after the wedding Shilpa and Raj will leave for Tirupathi and then to the 'Oneness University' in Chennai too see Shilpa's spiritual guru's blessings. "It was Sri Amma (the spiritual guru) who had predicted that Shilpa will get married this year. She almost did earlier this year. Now it's finally happening," says Shilpa's friend. "But what Shilpa is really, really happy about is that Raj Kundra is shifting permanently to Mumbai after marriage. The thought of a long-distance marriage was killing Shilpa. She knew it would be impractical. At the same time she would've been left with no choice if Raj had insisted on being Briton based."

"Being provocative is part of human nature" - Saif Ali Khan

"I felt Mid Day was a fairly decent newspaper but I am a bit disappointed with the paper for running that article and it has got a bit yellower for me," says Saif Ali Khan in a Bollywood Hungama exclusive video interview referring to the article in a Mumbai Tabloid yesterday that referred to a News Channel's transgression into the personal space of Kareena Kapoor's mobile text messages to Saif. ''Certain TV channels that are ridiculous, the stories they come up with. You can't watch that television. On the other hand maybe if I am a housewife in Kalinga, I may really enjoy that. My point is that if you're not a movie star and don't take it personally then you may find it entertaining. We find gossip entertaining, we find certain kind of masala TV entertaining, we find international smutty press entertaining, some people find pornography entertaining... you can't account for nature. But I can tell you I don't watch that kind of television,'' Khan succinctly expresses his views on the media intrusion in a celebrity's life. Saif's next film Kurbaan ran into trouble recently with a Political group that expressed strong objection to Kareena's backless posters. ''It's a waste of time and money to put up a poster and then have to take it down. Either it should be legal or it should be illegal. There should be a body that passes the poster. Once that poster is passed, it should be passed.'' But don't you find it a bit obscene and it seems it is deliberately titillating? ''It is meant to be a little provocative. Being provocative is part of human nature. People go to parties with backless cholis, they wear mini skirts. Does it mean that we should become Taliban now? Does it! And ban that. On the other hand, I think there should be a law in place that says that this kind of poster can't be displayed in public and then we won't do it. But is there such a law? We don't want anybody to be offended,'' says Saif. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Don't miss the video interview where the Chote Nawaab handles several tough issues with a dexterous ease. It's coming real soon. Only on... Bollywood Hungama Broadband.

Tum Mile screenings stopped in Ahmedabad

Tum Mile Films, they say, are instruments that mirrors reel life with real! This couldn't have been more true in the case of Mahesh Bhatt and his by-now-famous son Rahul Bhatt. Little did Rahul knew that his father's recently released film Tum Mile (starring Emraan- Soha) will be affected in a big way, due to the his acquaintance with David Coleman Headley, the US national, who arrested by FBI for allegedly plotting terror attacks in India at the LeT's (Lashkar-e-Tayyaba) behest. The theatres in Gujarat pulled off Bhatt's Tum Mile from the theatres following a demand by the Mahagujarat Janta Party (MJP) that wanted a state-wide ban on the film. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Anand Chennur, Manager- Devi Multiplex, Gujarat said, "I got a call from the local Police Inspector asking me to pull the film off, in order to avoid any controversy. Since I have been in the film business for more than 35 years, I felt that this was a passing phase, as something of this nature had occurred even during the screening of Jodhaa Akbar. I thought that this 'pulling down' thing will last for a few hours and shall then give way to peace. But, immediately after some time, the SP (Superintendent of Police) called me asking me to take the film off my theatre. He also cited the example of the mass destruction that had taken place in Apsara theatre (Kanakia, Mani Nagar). That's when I decided to take Tum Mile off my theatre. After all this, I got an anonymous phone call from a man (who refused to identify himself) asking about the 'status' of the film. Since I had taken the film off, I told him that the film is now off the theatre. Hearing this, he immediately hung the phone." Repeated attempts to contact Ashok Purohit, president, All Gujarat Multiplex Association did not yield any results.

Ghazab vfx for Ajab Prem...

Riding high on its box office success, the Ranbir - Katrina starrer Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is getting excellent response for its hilarious script, the stars' performances and its entertaining and lively jokes. But being more than just staple Bollywood masala, the flick also has some extraordinary visual effects (vfx) executed by Mumbai based vfx studio Prime Focus. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, , Prime Focus Chief Creative Director Merzin Tavaria, talks about the 270 vfx shots that were worked on by 80 artists, "The brief required us to make sure that the director's vision of making the movie hilarious should come alive on screen. With the help of vfx, we made an attempt to make the scenes look realistic and we are glad to have achieved the same." "I think the film was a real fun to work on. The vfx is well done and blends with the film seamlessly. Sequences like the spinning fx, set extensions, chroma key shots, the laddoo sequence, electrocution shots and water coming out of Ranbir's mouth and ears add a little more value to the feel of the film," adds Reupal Rawal, Vfx supervisor for the film. In this exclusive case study, Bollywood Hungama brings you some of the best vfx shots from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, courtesy Prime Focus, director Rajkumar Santoshi and Producer Ramesh S Taurani.
