Zoya Akhtar Zoya Akhtar, who earlier this year made an impressive debut with Luck By Chance, is all set to start her second directorial venture Running With The Bulls (working title). While her first film had quite a few bigwigs of Bollywood make a fleeting appearance, her second film too has quite a stellar cast. Running With The Bulls stars Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol in lead roles making it an extremely interesting casting coup of sorts. Shooting for the film begins in January 2010 at various locations such as Greece, Turkey, Thailand, UK and India. Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under their banner Excel Entertainment, the film will have lyrics by Javed Akhtar. Other crew members include Carlos Catalan as the DOP, Suzanne Caplan Merwanji as the Production Designer, Nandini Shrikent as the Casting Director and Arjun Bhasin as the Costume Designer. London, Dubai premieres of Paa cancelled

The Dubai and London premieres of Amitabh Bachchan's film 'Paa' have been cancelled, but the superstar says he is looking forward to the Mumbai event that will be attended by Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

"Aamir, SRK to attend Paa premiere" - Big B

Amitabh Bachchan They say Bollywood is one big family. And attending premieres of each other's films certainly a part and parcel of the ways of the tinsel town. In a latest, Amitabh Bachchan has confirmed that Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan will grace the premiere of Paa, where Big B plays a 13-year old boy afflicted by the rare disease progeria. Bachchan writes on his blog, "And now for the bad news. The London and Dubai premieres stand cancelled. Several issues have cropped up and it would not be prudent to go ahead with it, under such uncertain pressures and circumstances. But Mumbai is on ... at the IMAX Wadala on the 3rd of December and Aamir and Shah Rukh have both assured me of their presence there, today, as I begin to send out letters and requests to block said date from the Industry." In the same post, Bachchan praised the regional press for their incisive questions and informed fans that he's going to Chennai to "get an idea of the mechanics that go behind a final product - background and sound and effects and titles and sub titles." Sure, there's a lot that goes behind making a film. Especially, when you have the biggest star of Bollywood in it.

"I'm very upset with Bigg Boss" - Shamita Shetty

Shamita Shetty Shamita Shetty has come out of the reality show Bigg Boss totally confused disoriented and caught between two different levels of excitement. "I've a migraine and I can't think straight. I'm numb with disorientation. The first thing I did on coming out was to snatch someone's phone and call my sister. In the 7-8 minutes that I spoke to her, I wanted to know everything. I ended up being more confused." Shamita feels a sense of unreality about the reality show. "It was a month of my life. But it feels like a lifetime. I left a place where I went through the strangest of experiences. I was thrown into situations where we were bickering over a basic thing like food. And now my sister is getting married. I'm so disoriented, it isn't funny? I need to sit and discuss the whole experience of 'Bigg Boss' with my sister before we discuss her wedding. Otherwise, I'm going to burst." Shamita Shetty, who chose voluntary eviction from the 'Bigg Boss' House on Friday night, is very upset with the way her sister Shilpa's marriage was broken to her in the House. "First of all, I was the last person to get to know about my sister's engagement and wedding. That in itself was upsetting enough. But I can't hold anything against her. And she's marrying the most wonderful man, so I'm happy for her. But I'm not happy with the way I heard the news." The wild-card entrant Pravesh Rana came into the house and broke the news to Shamita. "He casually told me my sister was getting married! He gave me a wrong date November 25, and then he said that it was December 25. By then, I was wild with anxiety about my sister's wedding plans. Tell me; was this way to break the news? So clumsy. It did create a friction between me and Pravesh. But, eventually we were talking cordially." Shamita was not too happy with the way she was evicted either. "I was called into the confession room where I was given a letter written by my sister and mother. I burst out crying when I read Shilpa's words explaining that the wedding had to be preponed. And then I was told to leave through a little door in the confession room, in my chappals! I couldn't even say goodbye to my friends Aditi Gowitrikar, Bakhtiar and Tanaaz Irani." All said and done, Shamita says she's happy she went to 'Bigg Boss'. "I had just done a Oneness (spiritual healing) course. 'Bigg Boss' gave me a chance to try out all that I had learnt at the Oneness course. I had to be calm, patient and fight negativity. I did a good job of it." Shamita says she has lost so much weight in 'Bigg Boss', that her father was alarmed when he saw her! Says Shamita, "The funniest thing is, we were given only potato and rice during the first week, food articles that go totally against my diet. I protested to 'Bigg Boss'. No one paid any attention. Now that I'm out, I need to get over the experience and take over the arrangements for my sister's wedding."

Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra to move opposite Bachchans' residence after marriage

Since the marriage couldn't be postponed any further, thanks to the moody stars (we mean the ones above, not down below) Shilpa Shetty and her soon-to-be bridegroom Raj Kundra will move into a smaller brand-new place in a high-rise owned by Vashu Bhagnani in front of the Bachchans' residence Jalsa, until Shilpa Shetty-Kundra's dream home in Juhu is fully done up by Sussanne Roshan. Dream house or no, the marriage couldn't be held off any more. After the marriage Shilpa and Raj Kundra will fly off to an unknown destination for their honeymoon. They shift into their Juhu residence in February or March. Immediately after the wedding Shilpa and Raj will leave for Tirupathi and then to the 'Oneness University' in Chennai too see Shilpa's spiritual guru's blessings. "It was Sri Amma (the spiritual guru) who had predicted that Shilpa will get married this year. She almost did earlier this year. Now it's finally happening," says Shilpa's friend. "But what Shilpa is really, really happy about is that Raj Kundra is shifting permanently to Mumbai after marriage. The thought of a long-distance marriage was killing Shilpa. She knew it would be impractical. At the same time she would've been left with no choice if Raj had insisted on being Briton based."

"Being provocative is part of human nature" - Saif Ali Khan

"I felt Mid Day was a fairly decent newspaper but I am a bit disappointed with the paper for running that article and it has got a bit yellower for me," says Saif Ali Khan in a Bollywood Hungama exclusive video interview referring to the article in a Mumbai Tabloid yesterday that referred to a News Channel's transgression into the personal space of Kareena Kapoor's mobile text messages to Saif. ''Certain TV channels that are ridiculous, the stories they come up with. You can't watch that television. On the other hand maybe if I am a housewife in Kalinga, I may really enjoy that. My point is that if you're not a movie star and don't take it personally then you may find it entertaining. We find gossip entertaining, we find certain kind of masala TV entertaining, we find international smutty press entertaining, some people find pornography entertaining... you can't account for nature. But I can tell you I don't watch that kind of television,'' Khan succinctly expresses his views on the media intrusion in a celebrity's life. Saif's next film Kurbaan ran into trouble recently with a Political group that expressed strong objection to Kareena's backless posters. ''It's a waste of time and money to put up a poster and then have to take it down. Either it should be legal or it should be illegal. There should be a body that passes the poster. Once that poster is passed, it should be passed.'' But don't you find it a bit obscene and it seems it is deliberately titillating? ''It is meant to be a little provocative. Being provocative is part of human nature. People go to parties with backless cholis, they wear mini skirts. Does it mean that we should become Taliban now? Does it! And ban that. On the other hand, I think there should be a law in place that says that this kind of poster can't be displayed in public and then we won't do it. But is there such a law? We don't want anybody to be offended,'' says Saif. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Don't miss the video interview where the Chote Nawaab handles several tough issues with a dexterous ease. It's coming real soon. Only on... Bollywood Hungama Broadband.

"My mind kept getting diverted towards Kurbaan" - Kareena Kapoor

Two years after the release of her last performance oriented role, Jab We Met, Kareena Kapoor is being seen in Kurbaan. Though she did have Golmaal Returns, Tashan, Kambakhht Ishq and Main Aurr Mrs Khanna in the interim period, even she believes that Kurbaan should be a real test. With her most cherished project being just a couple of days away from release, Kareena Kapoor gets chatting with Joginder Tuteja and talks about the film's comparisons with Dev, her relationship with Karan Johar, the difficult conditions in which Kurbaan was shot and the mental toll that the film took on her. One year after you began shooting for Kurbaan, the film is now ready for release. How do you look back at the months gone by? Relieved. Generally when you work in a movie, you can disconnect from it the moment you are off the sets. In the case of Kurbaan, this wasn't possible. I have lived with it day in and night out. I have thought about Kurbaan even off sets. I tried hard but my mind continued to get diverted towards the work I was doing in the film. It doesn't happen with many movies but when you work in something like Kurbaan which is such an emotionally draining experience, you tend to stay on with the character. The kind of effect that it had on me, I really wanted to crash out once I reached home. I tried hard but my mind continued to get diverted towards Kurbaan You would have been pretty much prepared about it though when you signed the film, right? When Karan (Johar) explained to me what Kurbaan was all about, I knew that I was stepping into something big. Then Rensil came up with his own detailing and I knew that this wasn't going to be easy. Moreover, even physically, it wasn't an easy shoot either. We were shooting across multiple locations like New Delhi, New York and Philadelphia and were a part of extreme weather conditions. Please carry on... It used to be freezing cold in US with temperature ranging from zero degrees to minus seven or eight. We had to shoot in snow, spend nights outdoors, and then also get into underground stations. It was the feeling of being trapped there because let aside mouthing your dialogues, it was difficult even to breathe easy. Even standing still was a challenge, and there I had to emote with all the blood around. It used to be freezing cold in US… even standing still was a challenge, and there I had to emote with all the blood around Leaving aside the physical pain that you had to go through, how happy are you as an actor today? Very happy. For me doing Kurbaan was a great challenge since Avantika had to very different from Geet (Jab We Met). These two have been performance oriented films along with 3 Idiots. This is why when Kurbaan came to me, I jumped on it as it was neither one of those typical intense films nor did it have a clichéd love story going. You also spoke about Rensil coming up with his own detailing for the film. After Vijay Krishna Acharya (Tashan), Sabbir Khan (Kambakhht Ishq) and Prem R Soni (Main Aurr Mrs Khanna), he is the fourth debutant director in a row with whom you have worked. Since he makes his debut with Dharma Productions that has no less than Karan Johar at the helm of affairs, could he actually afford to call the shots entirely? Absolutely. Karan has a great eye for choosing directors. He picks them on merit and we saw that recently in case of Ayan (Mukerjee) too who made Wake Up Sid. Same happened in case of Rensil who did his own job. Moreover, he comes with a good intellectual bent. He knows what he is talking. Also, Karan and Rensil are class apart. Once Karan showed so much trust in Rensil, everyone was bound to follow suit. Moreover, I too trust Karan and his abilities blindly. He is like a Godfather. Karan and Rensil are class apart. Once Karan showed so much trust in Rensil, everyone was bound to follow suit It is clear from day one of the film's promotion that there is a strong undercurrent of terrorism in Kurbaan. Does this sense remain throughout the narrative or is it just a backdrop? No, it is much more than just a backdrop. Yes, there is a love story going on because essentially Kurbaan is a love story at its heart. Still, the strong undercurrent of terrorism is prevalent throughout. It's just that everything isn't on your face; there is a lot of subtleness in the narrative while keeping mass treatment in mind. Though the world would be seeing what Kurbaan is all about in a few hours from now, one tends to remember Dev where you played the traumatized girlfriend of a young man (Fardeen Khan) gone wrong. Any similarities here? Not at all. Dev was about Gujarat riots whereas in Kurbaan, the focus is on global terrorism. Leaving this aside, even otherwise Dev was mainly about Amitabh Bachchan and Om Puri. Fardeen and I were there but it wasn't our story. On the other hand, technically, Kurbaan is the story of this girl. Lastly, there was no love story in Dev, whereas Kurbaan is essentially a love story. So you know, you really can't be comparing the two films.

Tum Mile screenings stopped in Ahmedabad

Tum Mile Films, they say, are instruments that mirrors reel life with real! This couldn't have been more true in the case of Mahesh Bhatt and his by-now-famous son Rahul Bhatt. Little did Rahul knew that his father's recently released film Tum Mile (starring Emraan- Soha) will be affected in a big way, due to the his acquaintance with David Coleman Headley, the US national, who arrested by FBI for allegedly plotting terror attacks in India at the LeT's (Lashkar-e-Tayyaba) behest. The theatres in Gujarat pulled off Bhatt's Tum Mile from the theatres following a demand by the Mahagujarat Janta Party (MJP) that wanted a state-wide ban on the film. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Anand Chennur, Manager- Devi Multiplex, Gujarat said, "I got a call from the local Police Inspector asking me to pull the film off, in order to avoid any controversy. Since I have been in the film business for more than 35 years, I felt that this was a passing phase, as something of this nature had occurred even during the screening of Jodhaa Akbar. I thought that this 'pulling down' thing will last for a few hours and shall then give way to peace. But, immediately after some time, the SP (Superintendent of Police) called me asking me to take the film off my theatre. He also cited the example of the mass destruction that had taken place in Apsara theatre (Kanakia, Mani Nagar). That's when I decided to take Tum Mile off my theatre. After all this, I got an anonymous phone call from a man (who refused to identify himself) asking about the 'status' of the film. Since I had taken the film off, I told him that the film is now off the theatre. Hearing this, he immediately hung the phone." Repeated attempts to contact Ashok Purohit, president, All Gujarat Multiplex Association did not yield any results.

Ghazab vfx for Ajab Prem...

Riding high on its box office success, the Ranbir - Katrina starrer Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is getting excellent response for its hilarious script, the stars' performances and its entertaining and lively jokes. But being more than just staple Bollywood masala, the flick also has some extraordinary visual effects (vfx) executed by Mumbai based vfx studio Prime Focus. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, , Prime Focus Chief Creative Director Merzin Tavaria, talks about the 270 vfx shots that were worked on by 80 artists, "The brief required us to make sure that the director's vision of making the movie hilarious should come alive on screen. With the help of vfx, we made an attempt to make the scenes look realistic and we are glad to have achieved the same." "I think the film was a real fun to work on. The vfx is well done and blends with the film seamlessly. Sequences like the spinning fx, set extensions, chroma key shots, the laddoo sequence, electrocution shots and water coming out of Ranbir's mouth and ears add a little more value to the feel of the film," adds Reupal Rawal, Vfx supervisor for the film. In this exclusive case study, Bollywood Hungama brings you some of the best vfx shots from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, courtesy Prime Focus, director Rajkumar Santoshi and Producer Ramesh S Taurani. "Priyan sir is the only one who could make all of us wait" - Akshay Kumar

Sunil Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan Just like a captain of a ship, the director on the set is responsible for his cast and crew and all that follows till the completion of the film. One such tough captain is Priyadarshan himself. He certainly comes across as a silent type, one who is stuck with the clichéd 'man of few words' tag. Though, the leading man of his upcoming film De Dana Dan, Akshay Kumar, states things differently. In a candid interview Akshay did reveal that Priyan is far from the soft spoken demeanour he carries around, he's actually the iron man himself. A typical disciplinarian, few to none have the nerves to disobey him. Akshay reveals, "We were almost 26 artistes at any time on sets of De Dana Dan and Priyan sir had a rule that we all should be on sets at the same call time at 9 a.m. whether we had shots or not. There were no special rooms or arrangements for anyone of us. We all had to wait in the same waiting area and depending on various combinations we would be called in. I have worked with so many directors but he is the only one who could make all of us wait and no one could say a word of complain. To handle so many senior artistes in space and time is not easy." That certainly seems like a leader material; with such order and protocols followed the shoot of De Dana Dan must've been one smooth sail.

The film is being directed by Ashwani Dheer while Amita Pathak (daughter of producer Kumar Mangat) will take on the reins of a Producer for the first time with this project. "The script of Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? itself is a non stop laugh riot and you add the comical talents of Ajay Devgn, Paresh Rawal & Konkona Sen to it and what we have is a winner at the box office" says Denzil Dias, Deputy Managing Director (Theatrical), Warner Bros. "Vivek's personal life has clouded people's perception" - Karan Johar

Karan Johar Salman Khan may refuse to acknowledge Vivek Oberoi's presence in the industry and in general his entity by itself. However, the young actor is ready to move on. Taking stock of his career, he is seeing a different dimension to his career with filmmakers like Karan Johar (Kurbaan) and Ram Gopal Varma (Rakta Charitra) coming to his rescue. Many believed that he was committing a professional hara-kiri of sorts by signing a film like Kurbaan which would always be known for its lead pair of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. However, Vivek Oberoi was unperturbed. He had earlier worked in another Karan Johar production, Kaal (2005) and trusted the filmmaker to utilise him judiciously. Even though he was Kareena's leading man in Mani Ratnam's Yuva (2004) half a decade back and had shared screen space with Saif Ali Khan in Vishal Bhardwaj's Omkara (2006), he didn't mind the real life couple taking centre stage in Kurbaan as long as his role was substantial enough to make a difference to the film. This is why Karan Johar is continuing to give rock solid support to Vivek Oberoi. Even though Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are the lead protagonists in the film, director Rensil D'Silva as well as producer Karan Johar are not undermining Vivek's importance in the film. He is pretty much being considered as the 'band muthi' of the film which is all set to explode at the opportune moment. Says Karan in the actor's defence, "Vivek is a good actor and he has proven himself in each of the films where he has been given a chance to perform. Forget his earlier films like Company or Saathiya which everyone talks about. Even in his last big film where he had an author backed role, Shoot Out At Lokhandwala, he had done quite well. He will bounce back for sure with Kurbaan and other newer set of movies that he is doing. But before that, let him be a surprise package in a film like Kurbaan where he doesn't have to carry the film's weight. Let audiences watch him without expectations and be impressed with what they see. If he has a good role and performance, he will have everything to gain. Karan Johar The argument does make sense. As a lead hero, Vivek has just two films in hands currently - Kumar S Taurani's action thriller Prince- Its Showtime (which has been moved to early 2010) and Ram Gopal Varma's bilingual Rakta Charitra on which he is pining a lot of hopes. A movie like Kurbaan before that is a teaser of sorts before the actual drama unfolds in the life of Vivek Oberoi who has only seen a dip in his career ever since his infamous press conference. Though Karan doesn't elaborate much about Vivek's personal life and his equation with many actors and filmmakers in the industry today, he agrees that people's perception does get hampered due to that. "This is quite unfair actually because once onscreen, an actor should be looked for his acting talent rather than what he does in his real life", rues Karan, "Yes, I know that some parts of his personal life may have clouded people's perception about him but is that really necessary? What should matter is that whether he has done justice to the trust that has been show on him or not. The turmoil or the lack of it in his real life should be of no concern to anyone, whether industry followers, audiences or sheer gossip mongers." No wonder, it is believed that Kurbaan could well be Vivek's comeback of sorts. He may not find himself placed in the super league of actors after the film's release but at least find respectability as an actor that he is yearning for long. "He is ready for a new phase in his career and Kurbaan could well do the trick", declares Karan Johar who is whole heartedly supporting the young and talented actor, "He has done a very good job in the film. It has turned out to be a good decision to rope him in for the film. I am sure he would make quite a few heads turn with his act." Commenting on the same old accusation about Vivek being hidden from the film's print and publicity campaign, Karan says, "See, the problem is that we in the industry are so quick to jump on assumptions. We at Dharma Productions know what we are talking about and all actors and other crew members are rest assured about how they would be projected in front of the industry and the audiences. There are no surprises for anyone." Now one looks forward to the 20th November release of the film to see if that indeed turns out to be the case. Knowing the fact that director at the helm of affairs is Rensil D'Silva who did an amazing job of probing deep into the characters for Rang De Basanti through an intelligent screenplay, one assumes that history will repeat itself for Kurbaan too.
