Ajay Devgn, Konkona, Paresh Rawal come together in Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?

Warner Bros. Pictures India and Wide Frame Films join hands for their next Bollywood film Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? starring Ajay Devgn, Konkona Sen Sharma & Paresh Rawal in lead roles. The film is being directed by Ashwani Dheer while Amita Pathak (daughter of producer Kumar Mangat) will take on the reins of a Producer for the first time with this project. "The script of Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? itself is a non stop laugh riot and you add the comical talents of Ajay Devgn, Paresh Rawal & Konkona Sen to it and what we have is a winner at the box office" says Denzil Dias, Deputy Managing Director (Theatrical), Warner Bros. Pictures India Says the debutant producer Amita Pathak, "When my director (Ashwani Dheer) narrated the script to me, I could completely relate to it as we have also faced a similar scenario at home leading to a lot of funny and frustrating situations. We felt it made the perfect premise for a rip-roaring comedy. And that is how Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? was born." This is the first time the 3 National award winners namely Ajay, Konkona and Paresh have been cast together for a light hearted comedy. Says Ajay Devgn, "I liked the script because it is very real and has some slice-of-life comic situations. It is also very cleverly written and the humour in the dialogues makes it very likeable. I'm sure people from all walks of life will identify with this because every home must have had a guest who has been the bane of their lives." To be shot over 50 days at Yash Raj Studios and other locales in Mumbai, the film is slated to release on 26th February 2010. Music for the film will be composed by Pritam while the lyrics have been penned by Irshad Kamil. The Cinematographer of the film is Aseem Bajaj, Sound recordist is Subhash Sahu while production designs will be done by Sabu Cyril.

Paresh Rawal teams up with Sanjay Dutt for Kaizad Gustad's next

Paresh Rawal The Boom director Kaizad Gustad is strapped for a producer .The latest news on Gustad's project is that Sanjay Dutt has stepped in to get Kaizad a producer. According to a source, Sanjay Dutt feels a strong sense of empathy for Kaizad who's been in a legal battle for a while. Dutt has assured Kaizad he will either produce the film himself or get a producer. Apparently, Dutt has personally spoken to Asthvinayak to produce Kaizad's film and also made it be known that he will play the lead in it. Kaizad's film is apparently a taut thriller with Dutt, Paresh Rawal playing the main leads and might also feature Naseruddin Shah. Confirming these details Paresh Rawal says, "Yes in principle I've agreed to be in Kaizad's film with Sanjay Dutt and Naseer. I've worked with Sanjay before. And it's always a pleasure to work with Naseer who is my favourite. But more than the cast it's the script that I found exciting. Kaizad's film has a very strong element of human drama. At this stage of my career I need roles which challenge me as an actor." Paresh says Kaizad's project is on. "I think he's getting the producer in place." At the moment Paresh is getting ready for the release of De Dana Dan. He admits the roles that he relishes are rare nowadays. "I need new challenges. And what's being offered to me isn't challenging me."

"Vivek's personal life has clouded people's perception" - Karan Johar

Karan Johar Salman Khan may refuse to acknowledge Vivek Oberoi's presence in the industry and in general his entity by itself. However, the young actor is ready to move on. Taking stock of his career, he is seeing a different dimension to his career with filmmakers like Karan Johar (Kurbaan) and Ram Gopal Varma (Rakta Charitra) coming to his rescue. Many believed that he was committing a professional hara-kiri of sorts by signing a film like Kurbaan which would always be known for its lead pair of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. However, Vivek Oberoi was unperturbed. He had earlier worked in another Karan Johar production, Kaal (2005) and trusted the filmmaker to utilise him judiciously. Even though he was Kareena's leading man in Mani Ratnam's Yuva (2004) half a decade back and had shared screen space with Saif Ali Khan in Vishal Bhardwaj's Omkara (2006), he didn't mind the real life couple taking centre stage in Kurbaan as long as his role was substantial enough to make a difference to the film. This is why Karan Johar is continuing to give rock solid support to Vivek Oberoi. Even though Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are the lead protagonists in the film, director Rensil D'Silva as well as producer Karan Johar are not undermining Vivek's importance in the film. He is pretty much being considered as the 'band muthi' of the film which is all set to explode at the opportune moment. Says Karan in the actor's defence, "Vivek is a good actor and he has proven himself in each of the films where he has been given a chance to perform. Forget his earlier films like Company or Saathiya which everyone talks about. Even in his last big film where he had an author backed role, Shoot Out At Lokhandwala, he had done quite well. He will bounce back for sure with Kurbaan and other newer set of movies that he is doing. But before that, let him be a surprise package in a film like Kurbaan where he doesn't have to carry the film's weight. Let audiences watch him without expectations and be impressed with what they see. If he has a good role and performance, he will have everything to gain. Karan Johar The argument does make sense. As a lead hero, Vivek has just two films in hands currently - Kumar S Taurani's action thriller Prince- Its Showtime (which has been moved to early 2010) and Ram Gopal Varma's bilingual Rakta Charitra on which he is pining a lot of hopes. A movie like Kurbaan before that is a teaser of sorts before the actual drama unfolds in the life of Vivek Oberoi who has only seen a dip in his career ever since his infamous press conference. Though Karan doesn't elaborate much about Vivek's personal life and his equation with many actors and filmmakers in the industry today, he agrees that people's perception does get hampered due to that. "This is quite unfair actually because once onscreen, an actor should be looked for his acting talent rather than what he does in his real life", rues Karan, "Yes, I know that some parts of his personal life may have clouded people's perception about him but is that really necessary? What should matter is that whether he has done justice to the trust that has been show on him or not. The turmoil or the lack of it in his real life should be of no concern to anyone, whether industry followers, audiences or sheer gossip mongers." No wonder, it is believed that Kurbaan could well be Vivek's comeback of sorts. He may not find himself placed in the super league of actors after the film's release but at least find respectability as an actor that he is yearning for long. "He is ready for a new phase in his career and Kurbaan could well do the trick", declares Karan Johar who is whole heartedly supporting the young and talented actor, "He has done a very good job in the film. It has turned out to be a good decision to rope him in for the film. I am sure he would make quite a few heads turn with his act." Commenting on the same old accusation about Vivek being hidden from the film's print and publicity campaign, Karan says, "See, the problem is that we in the industry are so quick to jump on assumptions. We at Dharma Productions know what we are talking about and all actors and other crew members are rest assured about how they would be projected in front of the industry and the audiences. There are no surprises for anyone." Now one looks forward to the 20th November release of the film to see if that indeed turns out to be the case. Knowing the fact that director at the helm of affairs is Rensil D'Silva who did an amazing job of probing deep into the characters for Rang De Basanti through an intelligent screenplay, one assumes that history will repeat itself for Kurbaan too.

Pritam Tired of watching Vishal Malhotra play the hero's best friend over and over again? He was Shahid Kapoor's sounding-board in Ishq Vishq and Kismat Konnection. Chang, as he's affectionately known in the industry, has been strictly prohibited from talking about his acting debut. So we asked the film's music composer Pritam Chakraborty if he had any hand in Meiyang's casting. After all Meiyang Chang's girlfriend Monali Thakur rose to fame with Pritam's composition 'Zara Zara Touch Me' in Race . It's believed Pritam played cupid between the two Indian Idol contestants. Pritam denies having a hand in Meiyang's love life or his career. "Chang is a dear friend and he is seeing Monali. But I had nothing to do with it. Nor did I have any hand in his casting in Parmeet's film. I'm only the music composer on that project."

'De Dana Dan' producer Ratan Jain sets the record straight

While on Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, their new outing, DE DANA DAN, has evoked tremendous interest within and outside the industry. The film is piping hot, to put it in simple and straightforward terms. The Akshay - Suniel - Paresh pairing with Priyadarshan evokes strong memories of HERA PHERI. "DE DANA DAN is not HERA PHERI," producer Ratan Jain clarifies, "Sure, the star cast is same and so is the director, but there's no effort to make a sequel to HERA PHERI or be like HERA PHERI. DE DANA DAN has a completely different storyline and the character sketches are poles apart too." But comparisons with HERA PHERI are inevitable. "I am well aware of that, but the fact is that DE DANA DAN is far more entertaining than any Akshay - Priyadarshan movies made in the past. DE DANA DAN has Priyan and Akshay at their best," the respected producer explains. Ratan Jain, who has worked with Aamir [AKELE HUM AKELE TUM, MELA], SRK [BAAZIGAR, BAADSHAH, YES BOSS, JOSH and MAIN HOON NAA] and Akki regularly, is planning a project each with Abbas-Mustan and Priyadarshan in the near future. What happens to KHILADI 2? "That will be made with Abbas-Mustan and Akki only, but till we lay our hands on the right script, we wouldn't like to announce the project," he says.

Akshay & Priyadarshan believe in completing films in record span

Akshay Kumar works at a lightening speed. So does Priyadarshan. What happens when Akki and Priyan, two workaholics, get together? Simple, the movie gets completed at the speed of a missile. Akki is known for completing his films in one or maximum two schedules, while Priyan too prefers to complete his films at a stretch, in one long schedule. Their new outing, DE DANA DAN, was completed in a non-stop schedule in Singapore, with a few days' shooting in Mumbai. Now Akki and Priyan's new endeavour, KHATA MEETHA, which went on floors a few days ago, is already 50% complete. 50% complete already? "Of course, don't you know Priyan shoots his films at a feverish pace? Starting at 7 in the morning and shooting till late in the evening, he wraps his films in a record time, thus making it so easy for his producers," Akshay Kumar tells me. The unit is currently stationed in Satara and would head to Pune later. "Hopefully, we should be able to wrap the entire shooting before the year-end," Akki adds. Which means, Akki will have three films ready for release in the first half of 2010 - ACTION REPLAY, HOUSEFULL and KHATTA MEETHA. That's great!

'Rocket Singh' & '3 Idiots' are releasing on the same day as 'RNBDJ' & 'Ghajini'

Last year, a Yash Raj film [RAB NE BANA DI JODI] and an Aamir Khan starrer [GHAJINI] were released in the same month - on 12th December and 25th December, respectively. Now Yash Raj is bringing its new release, ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR, on the same date... well almost [11th December], while Aamir too is bringing 3 IDIOTS on 25th December. While RAB NE BANA DI JODI and GHAJINI worked at the box-office, here's hoping that ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR and 3 IDIOTS also have a dream run at the ticket counters. With Ranbir Kapoor emerging a major draw with AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI, one is confident that ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR would have a super start at the ticket window. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan too is leaving no stone unturned to promote 3 IDIOTS. The supremely talented actor is introducing each track from the album to the media persons, thereby ensuring that each song gets its due, besides getting equal mileage in the media. 3 IDIOTS is expected to fetch a hurricane-like start at the box-office. Expect the fortunes to change for better with PAA, ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR and 3 IDIOTS in December.

Prime Focus recreates 26/7 Mumbai floods in Tum Mile

Prime focus, global post production and vfx house has delivered yet another visual treat for Mukesh Bhatt's Tum Mile with the VFX team led under the creative guidance of Merzin Tavaria, Chief Creative Director and the Digital Intermediate team led by Rohan Desai, DI head and Chief Colorist , Prime Focus. The VFX team of 79 creative professionals was led by VFX Supervisor Ritesh (Ricky) Aggarwal and the look and mood of the film was set by ace Colorist, Aashirwad Hadkar. What we have created in Tum Mile is exceptional, said Merzin Tavaria. "Depicting events from the past with a see-it believability factor was a challenge for Prime Focus but we've successfully recreated the scenario and realistically projected it with effective live-action effects, complete CG shots, Compositing, matte painting etc", adds Merzin. Talking about the DI, Rohan Desai said, "Since the movie is set in the backdrop of a real incident, the client wanted the scenes to look as real as possible. In the movie, some scenes are shot in glossy and colorful locations of South Africa and the others in Mumbai with the backdrop of the torrential flood. As always, extreme change in conditions and locations was a challenge to the DI team. The team had to merge each and every scene to ensure continuity." Tum Mile is a love story set against the backdrop of the infamous July 2005 Mumbai floods. Directed by Kunal Deshmukh of Jannat fame, the film stars Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan in lead roles. Bollywood Hungama brings you an exclusive shot breakdown of the vfx scenes from the film. Click on the below tabs for more.

"Sanjay Dutt is very much in Faltu" - Jackky Bhagnani

Jackky Bhagnani The word Faltu says a lot about anything called by that name. However, contrary to what is believed, Vashu Bhagnani's film by the same name, which stars son Jackky Bhagnani, is based on kids who have a certain aim in mind. Jackky explains, ''Faltu is about these kids who have some rather subconscious aims in mind, aims that people say will never work out. The film is basically about these guys who manage to accomplish these goals and prove everyone wrong.'' Just recently, there was speculation that the film, which also has Sanjay Dutt, was to undergo changes in cast as Sanju had an issue with the dates and was to be replaced with Anil Kapoor. Jackky rubbishes these claims stating, ''Sanjay is still very much in it, and all these rumours about Anil Kapoor replacing him are false.'' The film which is Jackky's second is currently being worked upon, while Jackky himself has been seeing new scripts of late. ''Besides Faltu, I have been seeing some new projects but haven't decided yet as I want to concentrate on Faltu first,'' he adds.

Abbas Tyrewala gives 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala' to Saurabh Shukla

John Abraham, Abbas Tyrewala When Abbas Tyrewala wrote the catchphrase 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala' for his debut film, little did he know it would grow into a youth chant at pubs, college campuses and bowling alleys. So the first thing he was advised to do was to register the title for future use. Abbas was in no mood to use Pappu Can't Dance Saala as a title for any of his future films. He gladly handed the words of his lyrics to writer-actor-director Saurabh Shukla. Says Abbas, "Saurabh is most welcome to it. Pappu Can't Dance Saala could never have been the title of any of my films. I gladly gave away the phrase. Pappu Can't Dance Saala or Jiggy Wiggy (for Blue) are catch-phrases I wrote off-the-cuff to appeal to youngsters. There's no away I'll re-title my new film Pappu Can't Dance Saala. That phrase is done with. I'll never use it again." Last heard, Abbas was being pressurized by potential distributors to change the title. "I just might have to change it," relents Abbas. "I could go for an old Hindi film-song title like I did in Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na." Commenting on A R Rahman's music, Abbas says, "Rahman created a totally different musical style for Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na and now for 1-800-Love. I loved writing 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala' and 'Jiggy Wiggy' for Rahman. They both appealed to the young, Pappu to the 18-year old, Jiggy to the 4-5-year old." Abbas Tyrewala and his producer Madhu Mantena are at loggerheads over the strange-sounding title 1-800-Love of Abbas's film. The producer it seems, was against the odd title from the start and insisted that the term 1-800-Love had no relevance to Indian audiences. But Abbas insisted on the title. "That's the name by which I see the characters' lives unfold," the director insists.
