The sportiest star of the Indian Film Industry, is now going ahead and becoming the international khiladi as he will soon be seen in the most respected sporting event, The 2010 Olympics games, as the sole star representing the global entertainment industry.
Akshay has been the brand ambassador from India for the Special Olympics World Winter Games for the past three years, but this year he is also going to be the torch bearer at the Winter Games being held in Vancouver, Canada.
Akshay's love for sports is a well known fact; he was recently awarded the highest Japanese honour of 'Katana' at his first international karate championship. Not only that, but he has shot for 'Seven Deadly Sins' for the National Geographic channel recently.
This one would be another feather in his cap, as only 15 international celebrities have been invited to Canada to participate in carrying the torch.
The games will be held from January 30 to February 14, 2010. Akshay will be presented the torch on November 16 by the Canadian Prime Minister Steven Harper, in Mumbai. At a high power exclusive lunch organised for 50 CEO's of respected tourism companies, the PM will be introducing Akshay as the sole torch bearer from India.
It's not only an honour for Akshay but an hour for our industry and most importantly for our country. Kudos to Akshay!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 12 Nov 2009 | 5:45 am When Aftab and gang threw surprise birthday bash for Rati Agnihotri
Rati Agnihotri is someone who does not need any introduction in Bollywood. She has been one of the 'initiators' of some of the golden romantic moments on the silver screen. How can one forget the cross-cultural romance between her and Kamal Hassan in the yesteryear's smash hit film Ek Duje Ke Liye.
It is the same Rati Agnihotri, who will now be seen in the Aftab-Aamna starrer candyfloss flick Aao Wish Karein, directed by Glenn Baretto. True to the theme of the film, which is magic and surprise, the whole unit of the film sprang a surprise on Rati Agnihotri by celebrating her birthday on the sets of the film. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Glenn said, "The whole unit of the film was very upbeat about celebrating Ratiji's birthday on the sets. Rati, on her part was indeed very touched and moved by the sweet gesture that the unit members showed towards her. The 'surprise packet' of the day was the presence of Rati's husband Anil Virwani, who is an extremely busy man. He took time out to be with the whole unit to bring in Rati's birthday!"

Jail which opened last week would serve as deterrent for potential law breakers. Or so director Madhur Bhandarkar would like to believe.
"Anyone would think twice before committing a crime after seeing in my film what life is like inside a prison," says the director.
Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail opened below expectations. The hard-hitting director has no qualms in admitting it. "It was a slow starter. But collections have picked up from the third day," says Madhur, and adds, "You've to admit it requires guts to make a film set in a jail. The other film releasing with us was a light fun filled entertainer. We were fighting formidable competition since Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani was a lavish film. Ours is 12-crore rupee film and we'll recover our money. The producers are happy. There are still the satellite rights to be sold."
Madhur fights off comparisons with between Jail and his last film. "Fashion was a glamorous glossy big-budget film. Jail is a grim and honest look at life in a prison. Source: Entertainment - Google News | 12 Nov 2009 | 1:55 am Vivek Oberoi's baffling non-presence Kurbaan promos, Rensil explains
Is Vivek Oberoi getting a raw deal? The Kurbaan promos feature Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor all the way. Vivek Oberoi who plays the third main protagonist is hardly glimpsed in the entire promotional campaign, triggering off a widespread feeling that things are not so right between Vivek and the Kurbaan team.
However, the explanation for Vivek's absence is far more bizarre than the normal raw-deal rona-dona.
Apparently, his role is so deeply affiliated to the plot's suspense that every moment shown in the promos featuring Oberoi would have the tendency to give away the story.
Laughs director Rensil D'Silva, "It's a very strange situation. Vivek is one of the central characters. But almost every scene of his is a dead giveway of the suspense. What do we do?"
Rensil has discussed the problem with Vivek. "And he is absolutely cool with being the band mutthi of the film. I've spoken to Vivek and explained the dilemma. He was cool with not being featured in the promos that much. He said to do whatever is right for the film because when the film opens the truth about the extent of his role would be out. Vivek has worked very hard in the film. He had to acquire a true New Yorker's accent and not the kind Indians get at the John F Kennedy airport."
Vivek worked really hard on the accent. "We had a couple of New Yorkers on the sets to coach him. He's got the NY accent bang-on. It's not a borough-specific accent (NY has 5 boroughs each with its own speaking pattern). It's a general New York twang. And Vivek is superb with it."
Rensil cuts down the belief that Vivek has a cameo in Kurbaan? "Not true at all. Vivek is in 80 percent of the film. He's central to the drama. Vivek worked very hard on the role. He was in my room in Philadelphia every night to discuss his diction, dialogues and looks. I seem his career at the cusp of something really exciting."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 12 Nov 2009 | 1:44 am Amitabh-Abhishek role reversal main motive behind 'Paa': BalkiThe idea to cast Amitabh Bachchan as Abhishek's son in "Paa" struck filmmaker R.Source: Entertainment News | 12 Nov 2009 | 1:42 am Om Puri had sex with his maid, says his biographyConsidering the way, in which the book is hogging print and media limelight, it is speculated that it will be a big hit, whether Om Puri has given consent to his wife to pen controversial incidents of his life still remains a question?Source: merinews: Entertainment News Articles | 12 Nov 2009 | 12:16 am Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan to be honoured at Cairo film festBollywood actors Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan will be honoured at the ongoing 33rd Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) 2009.Source: Entertainment News | 12 Nov 2009 | 12:07 am Will Ajab overtake Love Aaj Kal? - Sify

Leading animation and visual effects studio Visual Computing Labs (VCL), a division of Tata Elxsi has recently delivered innovative special effects for Videocon's latest television commercial for its new range of washing machines.
This ad is unique in that it likens clothes as susceptible to germs to the way people fall sick due to viruses. The ad was conceived to communicate the fact that the new Videocon washing machine has Quanta Wash with the edge of UV ray technology that kills such micro germs. This idea is conveyed using various 3D animation characters.
The challenge was designing four different characters, with each character representing a person wearing the garment and his / her personal traits and attitudes towards life. These attitudes / mannerisms had to be further infused with vigour and made to 'come alive' through the performances of the four characters in the animation.
This TVC has been directed by ace ad film maker Mintoo Singh of Classics Films. At the outset, while the TVC looks uncomplicated to a non-discerning viewer, tremendous effort has gone into making this a visually foolproof commercial and ensuring that the animation aptly fitted into its proper environment and not ending up looking flat and stuck on. To fit the animation seamlessly onto the live action person's T-shirt and actually model the T-shirt / shirt complete with folds that matched the ones in the live footage was extremely challenging to say the least.
Speaking about the creation of the commercial, Suhael Merchant, Animation Director, Visual Computing Labs, said, "The use of animation in advertising is fast becoming a potent force for companies to reach out to the target audience. The uniqueness of this ad film was that even though animation was used as the medium to communicate, the characters for the film were absolutely regular animation characters. The integration of the animated characters being used as prints on various people's t-shirts and the seriousness of the film's message is what makes this ad stand out."
Since its inception, VCL has pioneered some of the finest animated and VFX work that has originated from India and garnered significant worldwide recognition. VCL has successfully delivered fully animated TVCs on a habitual basis for both Indian as well as global customers, the latest being the Kelloggs Honey Loops TVC.
The Himani TVC for the production house, Equinox also created by VCL won the FICCI BAF award this year for executing outstanding visual effects in the category of "Best VFX in a commercial".Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 11 Nov 2009 | 8:51 am Just A Minute With: Ranbir KapoorMUMBAI (Reuters) - If Ranbir Kapoor is bearing the weight of expectations as a member of Bollywood's first family, he's not showing it.Source: Reuters: Bollywood News | 11 Nov 2009 | 8:50 am 'No One Killed Jessica' not about murder case: directorDirector Rajkumar Gupta of "Aamir" fame says his second film's title may have a stark resemblance to the Jessica Lall murder case, but "No One Killed Jessica" is not based on it.Source: Entertainment News | 11 Nov 2009 | 8:44 am Simple Kapadia passes awayFormer Bollywood actress and designer Simple Kapadia died here on her 51st birthday after battling cancer for three years.Source: Entertainment News | 11 Nov 2009 | 8:11 am "Kaabil bano, kamayabi toh jhak maar ke peechey aayegi" - Rajkumar Hirani
All of us have been called idiots at some point in our lives. But 'you were only going down the untrodden path' and being pulled up for it, opines Rajkumar Hirani, the director of the forthcoming college-comedy 3 Idiots.
We are interviewing the musical trio of the 3 Idiots team today. These gentlemen make eccentric personas, to say the least. Each has believed in his own unique cinematic language and has managed to make it popular. Raju Hirani with his heartfelt comedies, Shantanu Moitra with his soulful and melodious music and Swanand Kirkire with his contemporary yet poetic songwriting.
As we sit munching over a bread-and-omlette snack, they enthusiastically talk about the songs, the philosophy of the film, why they made the word 'idiot' cool and share their mantra for success - if nothing works, chill out, all is well.
Like in Munnabhai, the music of the film is cheerful and casual, but at the same time has an underlying philosophy.
Raju: Yes. In the film we've tried to portray a philosophy which says that by nature we get scared of things; when you get scared all you have to do is tell your heart, 'Bhai, dar mat. All is well. This too will pass away.' Aisa agar karoge, zaroori nahi hain ki problem solve ho jayega, but you'll be able to face it better.
Swanand: Actually the concept of 'All Izz Well' is a part of the script but we had to take it to the song level. I happened to come across a cartoon where a chick is looking at an omlette and saying, 'Is that you brother?' You really don't know what's going to happen to you the next moment. Ek ko life milti hain, aur ek tave pe fry ho jata hain. That's where we found the song.
Raju: (sings) Murgi kya jaane andey ka kya hoga, life milegi ya tave pe fry hoga. Koi na jaane apna future kya hoga. And since we don't know our future - Hooth ghuma, seeti baja, seeti baja ke bol bhaiya all izz well.
All three have done inspiring work, where did you draw inspiration for 3 Idiots?
Shantanu: We have passed through our college days, and the thing with the youth is that baat ka batangad nahi ho jaata. If there's a big issue, someone tells you, 'Problem hain, daru pee lay.' If it still doesn't get any better, you drink some more. What you are doing is that you are basically trying to handle the situation by not going 'Oh my God!' That's the youth's way of thinking. Forget it yaar, bandi ne ditch kiya hain, doosri dhoond le. I think this casual, yet in-depth way
of thinking about life is what exemplifies what this film is all about.
Raju: You know, if you are speaking the college lingo, you have to stick to that. You can't be very poetic because it will look false, that's not what they speak there. What I admire about Swanand's writing is that language college ki hain par uske peechey ek badi philosophy hain.
Swanand: The same applies to the film too. The story's about college kids but has an underlying philosophy, which is revealed through laughs and cries in the film. It's the beauty of Raju's cinema.
Swanand: Basically the crux of the film is 'chase excellence, success will follow'. And that's what Rajkumar Hirani, Aamir Khan, Shantanu, all of us have been doing all our lives.
What's the message of the film?
Raju: There is a message in the film. Kaabil bano, kamayabi to jhak maar ke peechey aayegi. If you think there was a message in Munnabhai MBBS, in Lage Raho Munnabhai, then there is a message in this film. We strongly feel that cinema is for entertainment, nobody's going to pay 100-200 bucks to be given a lecture. Hence the message is sugar-coated and you will take it home, but with lot of entertainment.
Now that the music is out, let's talk about your favorite songs from the film.
Swanand: 'Behti Hawa Sa Tha Who', which is a journey song is one of my favs. It's a marriage of Simon-Garfunkel and SD Burman and gives you the old town feel. Besides, 'Zoobi Zoobi', which pays a tribute to films of yesteryears... jaisa filmon mein hota hain... is another favorite.
Raju: I like all the songs, each on a different occasion. But 'Jaane Nahin Denge Tujhe' would be my favourite because Sonu Nigam has sung it in a way which is very unusual. Jab usne gaana gaya, hum logon ke roongte khade ho gaye, we were shocked. What we are trying to say is that these three idiots were actually probably the sanest people but the world thought that they were idiots.

There was a time when directors making cameos in their own films were considered to be a fad. Now the latest trend seems to be getting an actor to do a cameo in a film that has been hyped to the hilt, without even a mention about the star's presence.
The last well-kept secret cameo that Bollywood witnessed was that of Deepika Padukone in the film Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, a film which only showcased the on-screen presence of Salman, Kareena and Sohail Khan. This time round, it is the Aftab-Aamna starrer fantasy flick Aao Wish Karein, directed by Glenn Baretto. We found out that Aftab's chaddi-buddy Riteish Deshmukh will be seen playing a Sardar in the film. Our sources also went to the extent of furnishing us with the snap of Riteish's look in the film.
When Bollywood Hungama spoke to director Glen Baretto, unlike many directors, this man was indeed sweet enough to admit the presence of Riteish in the film. Not just that, he also went to the extent of telling that, "Riteish is not making a cameo in the film. He is actually the grown up version of the Sardar kid whom you have seen in the promos. He plays Bonny, Aftab's best friend. Riteish agreed to do this as a gesture of friendship towards Aftab Shivdasani."
So friends, Aao Wish Karein that friendships in Bollywood should be as real as Aftab and Riteish!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 11 Nov 2009 | 7:12 am Simple Kapadia passes away - Times of India

If you thought you were the only one sick and tired of bad net speeds and server crashes, think again. Bollywood's very own perfectionist Aamir Khan couldn't help but complain as he seemed unsatisfied with the recently held online chat that was organized to launch the music of 3 Idiots.
Aamir writes in his latest blog post, "One day I will be able to organize a chat that way I imagine. Hasn't happened yet, but we'll get there. The big challenge is to be able to take the volume of traffic. By the time we finished with the lobby and I tried to enter my chat room, I discovered to my horror that I COULDN'T. TOO MUCH TRAFIC I WAS TOLD."
And then there is more, "So the tech team had to quickly create a new chat room for me. Well, I can tell you that the 3i cast and crew had a super time, and we were very happy and blessed to have in our midst the parents of Shantanu and Swanand."
On a lighter note, Aamir goes on to talk about sipping tea, watching the rain and missing his wife Kiran Rao, who's shooting in Panchgani.
He then reminiscences a classic from Roti Kapda Aur Makan in which Zeenat Aman sings to Manoj Kumar 'Hai hai yeh majboori, yeh mausam aur yeh doori'. Surely, a better chat application would enable the couple to bond over the net.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 11 Nov 2009 | 5:36 am No quiz shows for children any moreOnce upon a time quiz shows formed the Sunday television staple for children.Source: Entertainment News | 11 Nov 2009 | 5:35 am In-film advertising, a profitable optionMost importantly, films cannot be surfed, zipped or muted, unlike TV and internet. After the release of Paa, merchandise connected to the film's young protagonist Auro played by the Big B, is being planned. For the first time his younger fans will have Big B merchandise including dolls to play with.
The producers, AB Corp Ltd, have planned an 'Auro' blitzkrieg to connect the character with children across the world.
While a series of Auro merchandise are planned post the film's release, on Children's Day, Mr. Bachchan as Auro will come on television with a very special message for children.
Confirms the director, ''We're most definitely targeting Paa at children and parents alike. Mr Bachchan's Auro is a special child suffering from an extremely rare age-hastening disease. Auro could've easily become lonely isolated or
abandoned. Paa shows how special 'special' kids can be. It has a message on parenting rather than any disease. When your child is born with a special impairment, you need to make him feel special, not unwanted or isolated.''
In what could be the first campaign-oriented big-budget Bachchan starrer, Paa promises to bring into focus the parent-child relationship in a series of television campaigns.
There are now plans to do special shows of Paa to collect funds for the Progeria Research Foundation. Says Balki, ''We really had no concrete plans to tie up with the Progeria Foundation. Though our protagonist suffers from the disease, the film is not about Progeria. It's about how special children can fill your life with special brightness. Not for a minute does my protagonist's special condition qualify his relationship with his parents. That's why we avoided pitching Paa as a Progeria project. However, we'd be more than happy if our film proves helpful to children who suffer from the rarest-of-rare diseases.''
